To the Vox Media Podcast Network.
It is Friday, May 17th, 2024.
It is indeed a heck of a morning.
We are live on the MAA fighting Twitter spaces.
I don't care of what Elon says
or how he changes the URL.
I ain't saying anything else but Twitter,
but you can hear the show and it's entirety
shortly thereafter.
On the NBA Fighting Podcasting Network, what's going on?
I am Mike Keck.
I hope you're all having a great day.
We're doing a show here.
And this is going to be probably the quickest show we have ever done
because we got the preview show at noon
and I have to get this wrap packed on the podcast network
before that happens.
So what we're going to do is we're going to have a little rapid fire Q&A.
So bring your best question, your best 30 seconds of dialogue, and I will answer as quickly as possible,
and then we'll move on to the next, into the next, and to the next, and that's how we're going to do this.
Obviously, there's lots to talk about Furiusi coming up tomorrow, UFC Vegas 92 coming up tomorrow,
Belator, Paris coming up very shortly.
Dana White announced a whole bunch of fights for UFC 304, whole bunch of crap going.
on. So we're just going to rapid fire Q&A this for the next 30 or so minutes. So here we go.
Tokes set the tone. Yes, sir. I'll do. Okay, so we know what Daryntz Hill does, right?
Now he's been booked against Julius Chavez, Seza Chavez, Jr. And that fight is interesting on a lot of
levels, but we know exactly what's going to happen. He does this all the time. He fails upwards.
So he's going to knock Julio Sese Chavez down.
He's going to lose the fight.
And then because Jake Paul loses to Mike Tyson,
then he will get the Jake Paul fight afterwards
and continue to fail upwards until he's back in the UFC again.
What do you have to say that, Mike?
See you.
I don't think Jake Paul even knows who Darren Till is.
I don't think anybody in the boxing world knows who Darren Till is.
I really don't.
I think he's just kind of one of our dudes, and he's got an interesting story.
And yes, he is, as Jed likes to say, maybe the captain of the fail upward all-stars.
But once that fight happens, and everyone's going to be watching it, it's going to be the most watched card ever when that goes down on July 20th.
The boxing people will only know who Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is.
That's it.
That is all. They will not know who Darren Till is.
They knew who Anderson Silva was to a degree because he was a big star and he was a dominant champion.
Darren Till, while he is over and the MMA community likes him, he's not like a giant star or anything like that.
So no, don't think that happens.
I think even if Darren Till goes out, it just destroys Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.,
I still don't think Jake Paul is going to care because there's bigger fights for him.
He can go box Mazadol.
I know Mazel's stone in the University of Chicago.
He could rematch Nate.
He could box Mike Perry.
That's a way bigger fight than Darren Till.
So, I mean, there's just so many other options for Jake outside of Darren.
So, I mean, it'd be fun, but I just don't see a world where that happens.
But good start.
Left lane, go ahead, my man.
What's on, Mike?
Can you hear me?
Yes, sir.
All right. Well, just quickly, five announcements from today.
Obviously, you guys talked about them on BTL.
Nothing really, like, super shocking.
We all kind of saw most of them coming.
Personally, I actually think Leon could find a finish over Bilal.
I don't know.
It's got a vibe that's something.
It doesn't give me, like, the vibes where the underdoll gets are done.
It gives me all the vibes where we're waiting this whole time and then bang.
Leon might, I think Leon's going to smoke him.
I think Aspinall is going to rectify the loss to blades.
And I do think Patty is going to get his first UFC loss.
Bobby Green's going to tune him up. Apart from that, real quick question, how do you see Carlston Harris
versus Chaos Williams going this weekend? I think that's, apart from the main event, one of the
more interesting fights on the card. So that'll be all. Thanks, Mike.
One of the betting lines for that fight. I assume Chaos is the favorite. I probably bet Chaos here,
depending on what the line is. Minus 130, yeah, it's about right. I'll pick Chaos. He just hits really
hard.
Cross is on a nice little run,
but I think chaos is just
kind of fought better dudes,
definitely a better striker,
definitely more capable of finishing.
So,
yeah,
I'll go with chaos.
I'll go with chaos.
And then,
yeah,
the 304 stuff,
I feel like both champions
are going to retain.
I'm not like trying to
dismiss bowl or anything like that,
but I think
I just think
Leon
stylistically, it's just so much better.
Now, Balal,
Balal needs to take a,
for Balal to win this fight, he's going to have to take a beating.
He's going to have to take a beating early.
He's going to have to survive an onslaught.
He's going to have to hope Leon just tires himself out.
Because that's where Belal's at his best.
If this is just like a regular fist fight,
Leon's going to beat him.
Leon has him covered everywhere.
But Balal can be a dog.
Bilal has incredible cardio,
a fantastic gas tank.
and it's hard to slow Bilal down.
Leon was doing a damn good job of that in their first fight before the eye poke.
But, I don't know, Belaw's look real good.
I just, the way he wins these fights, I just don't think he can do that to Leon Edwards.
I really don't.
I think Leon's just on another level right now.
And at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter.
Who wins this fight?
Because whoever wins this fight is just,
going to be losing the belt to Shofcott
anyways. So it's just
kind of like a who's going to lose
the belt to Shofcott fight in my opinion.
Been saying that for a while. So
yeah, I think Leon retains.
I don't think he finishes him,
but I do think it's like a 49-46
ish kind of performance.
I think Tom Aspidall
gets it done against Curtis
Blades. That's probably where a finish comes.
And then, I don't know.
Like Patty Bobby Green
is so good. Like that's just a
really good fight. If they
match him up with Moycano, I would feel
incredibly confident picking Hanata
to Moikano in that fight. Incredibly
confident. This one,
I'm not so sure.
Patty, I mean, if Patty gets this
to the ground, he'll win. He'll probably
submit Bobby Green. But if Bobby
just works on nothing but take down defense
and keeps this fight on the feet, yeah,
he's going to beat the shit out of Patty Pimblet.
So,
real interesting fight.
I think out of all five of those
matchups and they're all intriguing in their own way,
that to me is like the most interesting
matchup.
Patty Pimble versus Tony Ferguson,
this is not.
And I dig it.
So looking forward to it.
All right.
Keep the rapid fire going.
Abs Wai, go ahead.
Okay, well, morning.
Just a few questions.
Firstly, with the remaining NBA,
second round playoffs,
who do you have winning in six or seven?
Another question.
In regards to Ian Gary, I saw a few posts and rumours that him and Sean Brady have a fight.
I don't know if it's individually announced or not.
I would assume on your end if you've heard anything about it,
but could you confirm if it's true or not that they might fight at 303?
And just one more thing.
With the UFC 304, I think the announcements were great.
I was surprised that they never decided who were MVP.
I think that's a really missed opportunity, in my opinion,
because he actually has a very surprisingly big casual crowd
that a lot of the fires on that car don't seem to have
you can pull an audience that people watch.
But I think in regards,
I'll just say one thing about the main event,
I definitely think we allow people underestimate
how much of, I guess, a good point striker.
He's not like a striker, but he actually can strike and throw hands.
I saw his last fight with Gilbert Burns.
He actually gave Gilbert Burns quite a bit of damage, you know,
even in the first round.
So I think if Leon wants to win, Leon really needs to defend those takedowns.
He cannot make the same mistake against Cavicton or Usman,
where he allowed himself to kind of be put in bottom position.
Because Belal can definitely, you know, take into those deep waters who he wants to.
And Belal's a smart fighter.
He's not going to allow himself to, you know, allow Leon to exploit his, you know,
skill set against him.
That's all I have a great day.
maybe i mean i just think i honestly i think it's leon's fight to lose i really do it's leon's fight to lose
he's the better fighter all the way around i think even i think even on the ground i think he's better
than belal i really do i just think he's bigger he's stronger i think he's fine like i think he's
fine all the way around the down the the dogness in the fight is where things could get real weird
because belal wins his fights just by outworking you and just wearing you out of you out
and it just depends on how hard Bilal makes him work throughout that time.
I think the betting line had Leon as like minus 220.
I actually think it should be higher than that.
And again, I'm not trying to disrespect Bilal.
I just think Leon is the dude right now.
Like he's, I just don't, I don't think anybody but Shafcott beats him at the, at the moment.
I just think his fight IQ is so high.
Leon's going to look like a star.
Like everything about this just favors him.
And the reason that they didn't want Leon to fight Bilal at 300 is because they're saving him for this moment.
It does not matter who Leon Edwards fought on this card.
It truly did not matter as long as he was on it.
And they would like to send the Manchester Faithful Home happy.
And with what is available to him, this in realistic,
this is the fight that probably does it compared to Shafka.
So, yeah, I am interested in the fight.
I think the law has a chance, but if, like, come watch party time.
If Leon is less than a minus 300, I'm probably betting on him.
Just the way I see this all going.
Gary Brady, have not heard a thing about that.
I'll give you like what I've been
what I have been told
yeah no one
yeah no one's reporting this fight
at all that I could see
so here's
here's kind of where at what I'm hearing
right now
and as I was tagged in yesterday
Joaquin Buckley did an interview
wasn't really challenged on anything
but we did get some information from Joaquin Buckley
that he did in fact turn down a fight with Ian Gary
for UFC 304 which to me is absolutely stunning
it is incredibly stunning to me
that he would turn this down
and I just don't understand it
you call O'Connor people think it's the dumbest call it of all time
and they often
offer you a fight on the Connor McGregor card and you say no to it against his, in essence,
his protege.
What the fuck are we doing here?
What are we doing here?
Because he has quote unquote, I don't want to get herps.
Is that what he said?
Something like that.
It was the most ridiculous shit I've ever heard.
One thing he did say that I guess what I can understand is that he said, well, look,
I just fought basically twice.
twice back to back.
Fought once, had a camp, fought, had another camp, fought.
And now he wants to take a little bit of a breather.
But still, man, like, this opportunity comes along and you don't take it to share the
stage with Connor, the guy that was unattainable to you, that is unattainable to you across
the board?
What the hell are we doing here?
Buckley is saying he's got some other fight lined up.
My guess is it's, there's only two names that matter.
That seemed to make sense to me from what I understand.
I would say it's MVP or Wonderboy.
Those are kind of what I think they're looking at.
As far as Gary, Brady or Gary at all,
what I'm hearing, as far as Ian Gary goes,
I would be surprised at this point
if he fights anybody at UFC 303.
I will be surprised if he fights
anybody could happen maybe they work something out i don't i would be stunned if he fights at 303
slightly stunned he has been offered a ton of guys he's been offered a ton of fights obviously
there are fights that that are out there for him i can tell you for a fact sean brady wants
that fight has been asking for that fight but for some reason you know fc doesn't want to do it
Gilbert Burns, from what I understand, they are working on something else for him.
It's a little too early to really report anything or talk about it, but from what I understand,
he's not even in the Buckley sweepstakes at the moment.
They have other plans for him, and who knows?
But this is, as of what, maybe a day and a half ago, it just seems like it's kind of unlikely Ian fights on that card.
and then other people are saying, well, okay, he could just fight in Manchester.
Doesn't seem like he's all that interested in fighting in Manchester.
So essentially, like the way he's ironed it out is that he's either fighting a 303
or he's not fighting until later in the year.
So that's where we're at as of maybe 48, you know, 36 hours ago, but shit changes real quick.
Honestly, it doesn't matter who he fights, in my opinion.
all the stuff I heard he said about MVP is absolutely true
from what I've been told
six, seven weeks,
just not enough time for MVP to get to 170.
Why we're not just doing this at 175 is a little insane to me.
I don't know why the UFC just isn't like,
ah, fuck who cares?
Do you think anyone's going to care?
If Ian Gary beats MVP, well, if it was at 170,
the fight wouldn't have gone the same way.
Come on, man.
Just do the thing.
So hopefully MVP fights in Manchester.
I think that's a no-brainer.
Fucking Buckley.
I don't know how Buckley fell bass backwards into that fight, but somehow he does.
And the NBA stuff, bring on the Knicks, baby.
Bring on the Knicks.
That's who I want.
I want to thump them up proper in the Eastern Conference Finals.
That's what I want.
Boarding for flight 246 to Toronto is delayed 50 minutes.
What?
Sounds like Ojo time.

But first, there, the last one.
Enjoy a Coca-Cola for a pause that refreshes.
And then probably Denver.
Four-quarter sports, quickly.
Go ahead.
All right.
So I do believe that if you are going to be betting Belal Muhammad,
just wait until a fight day, do a live bet,
just because I feel like Leon should be the heavy favorite.
I think he opened up a minus 200 or something like that.
It should be higher.
But I agree with you.
I think that if your, uh, Bala will have success in the later rounds if, uh, Leon gets tired.
I actually do feel like Aspinall will submit, um, not knockout, but submit, um, blades very quickly, um, in the fight.
And everything that's been going on with John Jones, look, uh, I, I do agree with people are saying that, you know, he's not the real champion.
If Aspenel does win, then that belt that he holds holds more credence than the belt.
that John Jones is holding.
And I do feel like John Jones is running away from,
from Aspinall.
And then lastly,
the stuff that Joaquin Buckley has been seeing about Daniel Cormey's mom,
that's very low of him.
That's such a bitch move, to be honest.
You know, how do you talk about somebody's dead mother?
So, yeah, John Jones is a coward and lost a lot of respect for Joaquin Buckley.
Yeah, Waukeen has just been awful through all this.
He's been awful since the Vicente Luque win.
He has just not made somehow, like, luckily put himself at a position to write the wrongs,
and then he just made it worse, and he continues to make it worse.
I will say this as well.
I don't love, I don't love Cormier in all of this either,
at least from like the initial tweet storm, just coming back hard at Buckley.
and calling him a pussy.
Like, didn't love that,
especially coming from a color commentator,
which is basically his role right now.
Didn't love that.
Kind of unprofessional.
And I know this is M.M.A.
And Dana won't give a shit and all that.
It's pre-speech.
We're the free speech board, all that.
You've got to have a little bit of decorum.
Just a touch.
Just a touch.
Like, fighters are going to say shit about you.
Like, that you put yourself in that position.
That's it.
you think Michael like Michael straighthan ain't out here calling people the P word like you just ain't you know
that's just the role that you're in but yeah the Buckley's been awful D.C. not good either
his being's just kind of let it go from what I could see and like it is it is what it is it is
I don't know why Buckley like keeps doubling down on this stuff I don't understand he's not
going to fight Daniel Cormier. All this work is for $0.0.0. All of it is for nothing.
And then I got to say, the one thing that I actually laughed out loud at was Joachim Buckley
saying that his, that Daniel Cormier's call it a Brock Lesnar was the previous worst call
it of all time? No, it wasn't. It was brilliant. It was perfectly done. Brock got into the
cage and shoved him.
Like, that was like the complete opposite of what
Joaquin Buckley did.
Brock Lester knew exactly who Daniel Cormier was.
Conna McGregor has no effing idea who
Wachie Buckley is.
No idea who that man is.
No clue.
Not even a response.
Not even like a witty emoji.
Nothing.
Nothing at all from
Connor McGregor.
DC could have fought Brock Lesnar.
That could have happened.
Joaquin Buckley will never fight Connor McGregor,
unless it's like just a dire thing
where Conner's the champion and like,
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know how that could possibly work.
So, yeah, the whole thing sucks.
It's awful.
It's not good.
It's brutal.
And I don't know.
I don't know. Buckley is just not getting over at all.
It's pretty astonishing how not over it.
Mike, can hear me?
Yes, sir, Ford Steiper.
Hey, I'm not, I'm not sure what's going on with Joaquin.
I don't know who's in his corner telling him to say these things
or if he's by himself and he, you know, he's speaking his own mind.
He just needs to stop and go out there and compete.
I don't know what he's doing.
He's confusing the hell out of me, making the worst moves,
turning down, you know, big fights I would really put him over,
especially if he went out.
and where is it, Manchester and knocked out Ian Gary.
It would be on the Connor McGregor card.
Yeah.
And 303 on the same card as Connor.
Exactly.
I'm not, I don't get it.
I don't know what he's doing, but, you know, I guess good luck to him.
Hopefully he can get it together and start making some decent moves and, you know,
go out there and perform.
But my question was to you, it's about Manel Kopp and Mohamed McHiav.
I think that's how you said.
Winner goes out there and gets a finish.
they get the next title shot or, you know, what do you think is going on in that division?
Thanks, Mike.
All right.
So back to Buckley, I think, you know, real quick, I think he does fight.
It's either going to be MVP or Wonderboy.
I think that's how they're going to set it up.
And I actually think MVP and or Wonderboy both Bewalky Buckley right now.
Buckley can take you down.
Buckley's a hoss.
But these are the types of matchups that both of those guys shine in.
I mean, just look at what Wonderbush.
boys been able to do against some of these guys.
Just go out there and
just thumb people up proper,
keep them on the outside, just kick him in the face
a bunch. Like, that's what he
does. It's a tailor-made fight for him.
And MVP as well.
Like, I think MVP would
be able to have some great success
here. But man, I still
I don't know how you turn that down. Oh, I want
to get to the belt as fast as I can.
Okay. Then go beat
the dude in the division who has the most
hype outside of Shafcott.
like Ian is probably outside of
outside of Colby
and I guess Leon to a certain extent
Ian Gary is the biggest fight
in the division right now
it is the biggest fight in the division
so this whole notion that's like well
Ben there done that don't need it
it's not a big fight you're crazy
if that's how you really feel
you are insane
you are nuts
that's the third biggest fight he could get right now
this division and two of them are not possible to him right now so i just it's crazy anyways
cop macaillef number one contender fight yes it's got to be i just don't see another way
i do think and i have no insight to this but this is sort of how i feel the flyweight little
shake-up between josh van tatsuro tyra alex prez and
and to gear ulo and beckoff i think this is a this is a backup plan for menel cop plain and simple
and maybe even mahaef as well i think they're giving tyra the alex prez fight and if he goes
out there and wins he's just going to be essentially the the backup guy for that fight something
happens to the cop gets hurt or can't make the wait tire steps in gets the opportunity
fights you to macaa for cop depending on who can't fight that's why i think they're setting it up
that way. I think they're just kind of planning ahead. But if Kopp Baha'iath goes through,
everybody makes weight. Yeah, I think the winner gets next shot. All right, we got Daniel's smooth
brain and D.C. bets and then we got to get out of here. Daniel, go ahead. Daniel go.
You hear me, Mike? Yes. Okay. Thanks. Yeah. I have a question. I want to go back to
Shafkat, what you said. You really think that Shafkat is, you said if Bella and Leon fighting,
it's just a question who loses against Shafkat. Do you really think that Chavkat is so a safe
play for, let me say, Leon, because I don't know, I saw him fighting against what was the name,
Neil, G of Neil.
I don't know. I saw some
things. I wasn't so
sure that Shafkat is
running over
all those fighters.
I don't know. What makes you
that's
secure or safe
that you say that
it's only a question of time
that Shafqad will be a champion?
Thanks, Mike.
I mean
there's a lot of
reasons why I say that.
And let's not forget.
And people love to throw this out there.
Jeff Neal's very good.
Like very good.
Now, there are times where he doesn't show up.
But when that man is on, when he brings his best, he can beat anybody.
He beat the hell out of Balah Mahomet.
He beat that ass.
That fight was not all that competitive when they fought.
And Jeff Neal beat him.
Like, this guy's,
real good and when he has it he has it he yes did he give shopcott a good fight sure did he win a did he
win a round no and he missed weight we people forget about that jeffield missed weight by a lot
a lot four pounds he missed weight for that fight shopcott also did not necessarily fight like shop cod
jeffield kept talking about standing up with them
Shofcott's like bet.
We'll have a striking match.
And that's essentially what they had until Shafkat was just like,
nah, done with this.
You give me the bully choke.
I'm going to take in, put your ass to sleep.
And that's what he did.
Shofcott is a madman.
This guy is so talented.
I don't see anybody beating this guy.
I truly don't.
I think he is the champion in waiting.
And I think he's got to, once he gets the belt,
it's going to be a long friggin time until somebody takes it off of him.
This guy's so talented.
He's so good.
He's a wrecking ball.
There are no wrecking balls in this division.
It's him.
He's the wrecking ball.
And I think he has the striking prowess.
His grappling is unbelievable.
No, he's the best grappler in the division.
Best submission guy in the division more than likely.
He's just a powerhouse.
Just look at some of the like exchanges he has just in the gym.
He's just trucking these dudes around.
he's an absolute monster and here's the scariest thing about chafcott rockmanoff and he's damn good and
like i've been saying he's the uncrown champion he's 29 years old he hasn't even hit his athletic
prime yet he's only going to get better this man is only going to get better he smushed up wonder
boy something proper and i know it's wonder boy and i know he's 40 and all that shit no it doesn't matter
does not matter wonder wonder wonder boy did nothing against him he did nothing he's he's going to win
he's going to be the champion i think he beats leon i think he beats below feel very confident but don't be
jeff feels very good at fighting let's not forget about that uh smooth break go ahead mike heck my freaking
guy all right um so i know you and uh mr jed meshew have talked about this
at earlier points about the get-or-get-got all-stars.
So with E.hor Pateria fighting Shar-Bullet at UFC, Saudi Arabia,
E-Hor-Petaria is the get-or-get-got belt holder for me right now.
Are there any challengers, or who do you think could be a challenger to the belt?
Thanks a bunch.
Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
No, no, no, you got this wrong.
Ehor is a
Top 5 guy,
might even be a Mount Rushmore,
get or get got guy that's on the current roster.
