MMA Fighting - No Bets Barred: Can Sean O'Malley And The Sphere Make UFC 306 The Greatest Live Sporting Event Of All Time?

Episode Date: September 11, 2024

UFC 306 takes place this weekend at Sphere in Las Vegas, headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Sean O'Malley and Merab Dvalishvili and also featuring a women's flyweight championship trilogy... bout between Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko. It's an event that UFC CEO Dana White promised will be 'the greatest live sporting event of all time,' so No Bets Barred returns to break it all down. It's a new era of No Bets Barred with Connor Burks moving on from MMA Fighting, and this week host Jed Meshew is joined by Alexander K. Lee to dive into all things UFC 306, AKA Noche UFC. Topics discussed this week include Jed and AK going head-to-head in their UFC Fantasy league with opposite sides on the main event, Valentina Shevchenko's chances to finally get past Alexa Grasso, whether or not Brian Ortega vs. Diego Lopes will even happen, plus a few moonshot bets from AK if you're really feeling frisky. All that and more on this week’s episode. Tune in for episode 100 of No Bets Barred. Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to the Vox Media Podcast Network. What is up, y'all? We are back. That's right. Another edition of No Betz Bard. Some might say the first new edition of No Betts Barred. I am your host, Jed Meshu. Normally, this show for the last 98, not actually 98, but somewhere close to that,
Starting point is 00:00:33 because we were at 99 episodes when he exited, but he wasn't here for all of them. this show is introed by the wonderful Connor Berks Connor Berks is no longer with us he's with us on the planet he has not gone on but he is no longer with MMAfighting.com but as I told you y'all a couple weeks ago
Starting point is 00:00:56 when we had the first conversation No Betts Barred will live on I promised you a new No Betts Barred that's still coming I had hopes perhaps overly ambitious hopes to unveil the next generation of No Betz Barred in advance of this week. But honestly, time was a little too short to make that happen.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Certainly before the next pay-per-view, hopefully before the next event, because we actually have a rare off week after this week. But it's UFC 306. It's Noce UFC. Had to have Nobeth Bar back for a major pay-per-view event. And so fired up the old podcast machine and called My Good Friend. You know him well, both from the MMEFive. Fighting Podcast Network, and from this show, because he has admirably filled in on a couple of occasions,
Starting point is 00:01:45 we taught him how to gamble here on these no-bets barred streets. I'm talking, of course, of Alexander K. Lee, the King in the North, AK. Hello. How you doing? How excited for you? Or how excited for UFC 306, Noche, UFC presented by Riyadh season at Sphere, are you? In Las Vegas. 10 out of 10.
Starting point is 00:02:06 10 out of 10, I have to be back. I was on my own little vacation recently. I have to be back for a pay-per-view. Two title fights that I've been anticipating for a long time. Ten fights is nice, nice and brisk. On paper, it looks great. Curious to see what they'll do with the sphere. I'm a little scepticals, how that's going to translate to us viewing from home.
Starting point is 00:02:24 But for those people who can shell out for a fat ticket to the sphere, I have a feeling it's going to be friggin' unforgettable. So that's great. Yes, apologies, by the way, everyone. That was my voice cackling during Jed's intro. when he, it almost sounded like he was declaring the great, the great Connaberg's as deceased. He's alive and well and thriving.
Starting point is 00:02:44 So shout us to GC. But yeah, I don't know. It wasn't the intention. No, no, no. I don't want to scare people. I don't want to scare people. GC is fine. Hit him up on Twitter.
Starting point is 00:02:52 G.C. is fine. He's dead to me. He's dropping me. Don't say, don't say that. Don't say that. He's dropping memes on social media, as usual. You guys can find them. You know where to find them.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Yeah, I don't know if I'll be the permanent co-host, I don't know what your plans are for No Bet's Bar going forward, but I'll say I'd love to be maybe. We'll see. I'm definitely on call. The only problem being, as I've said, on almost every time, every show I do for me fighting, is I tell people not to gamble on M-M-A,
Starting point is 00:03:20 which seems counterintuitive to what this program is trying to do. But I also accept that no matter what I say, people are going to do it. So if I can be a guiding hand in this and help people, if not to make money, just to avoid losing too much money, Then I eagerly take on that responsibility. So also.
Starting point is 00:03:41 It sounds like what you're saying is you would like many bets to be barred. I normally, yes, but I also realize when we do like anyone who's watched like if I'm on a preview show or something, I'm like along with you, I'm one of the ones who's always bringing up odds. I'm always bringing up odds. I'm always bringing up like props. I don't know why they amused me. So I guess it's only a natural.
Starting point is 00:04:02 I can't get away from it. I think it's such a part of. I mean, just sports. today, but especially combat sports. So I always talk about it and why not put my my curiosity to good use here as your as your co-host for today. And who knows going forward? Well, I love this. I love that you've thrown your your name in the hat for second chair. I won't reveal how we're going about things, but maybe I'll talk to you about it off air and then you can kind of see where no bet's part of the future is going because if we can pull it off,
Starting point is 00:04:33 I'm very, very excited about it. But we got some stuff to talk about this week, AK. We took, by we, I mean, No Bet's Bard took last week off, just sort of as a decompression week with a lot of changes happening at the enemy fighting landscape. But prior to that, Vegas 96, we did have a winning week. That was a very quick show. We'll take a little more time because I do have a co-host here. And so for the year, AK, I am approaching up 10 units, which is nice.
Starting point is 00:05:02 And I took that and I said, oh, look, I'm here. This is a big event and I got a big profit. What have we just spew and just fire from the hip? I have a fair number of wagers. Only 10 fights. I'm betting on almost all of them. So we're going to have ourselves a good time, AK, and we start the main event. This is promised to be the greatest live sporting event of all time.
Starting point is 00:05:28 To your point earlier, I am not certain that it will live. live up to that, not as a live viewing experience on hand. I think the pay-per-view viewers at home, I struggle to see how this will be as magnificent as promised because I don't know people who have been, I certainly know people have been to other events at Sphere and say that, yes, it's great. I don't think it's just going to translate that well. But if you're one of the lucky few paid a King's Ransom, maybe it will be all that it can be. but if it's going to be all that it can be,
Starting point is 00:06:03 it will need a main event to deliver in your main event this weekend. Sugar Sean O'Malley defends his bantamweight title against number one contender, robbed Valishvili. It's a fight that has been building for over a year. I mean, the deep roots of the rivalry with Al Jermaine Sterling. Valishvili's taking Sean O'Malley's jacket at the Hidden Cage face off, all of the composite parts of the...
Starting point is 00:06:30 this. This is a highly anticipated fight, AK, and the aligns are extremely close. They've kind of flopped a little bit. I believe that Sean O'Malley actually opened as a very slight underdog. He is now your betting favorite, depending on the book you're looking at, minus 125, comeback on Marab plus 105. The overrun on this fight's four and a half. And so the main event, AK, one, is it going to live up to the hype?
Starting point is 00:06:57 And two, do you have any potential wagers going down here? Because I do have one bet on the main event. I think if people listening to my content are probably aware of this, but let's start with you. Okay. Yeah, let's build up to that because I have a lot of ideas. Again, I'd love to hear what your one bet is. I have a lot of ideas. First off, we should tell people anyone that listen to our MA Fighting's UFC Fantasy Draft.
Starting point is 00:07:23 And if you haven't, guys, what are you doing? Check it out on YouTube. This is the best thing we've done in one. It was so fun. Check the article on M.A.fighting.com. Check out the podcast, whatever. Get up to date on the M.A. Fighting U.S. Fantasy Team draft because, Jed, we have our first head-to-head matchup of the season.
Starting point is 00:07:40 There weren't a lot of that when we picked teams. There's only, I think, like, three or four head-to-head matchups. But this is one where one of us is going to get a bare minute, some points just from our fighters being in the main event and being a title fight. But one of us is going to take the little points. Both of us are getting points. Someone's going to get a lot more points, though, barring a draw, which fingers crossed, that doesn't happen. But, yeah, assuming there's a winner.
Starting point is 00:08:02 One of us, we get a lot of points. This would be either you who has Mr. Sean O'Malley on your team or myself who has Mr. Rob DeWallish-Filly. So that's kind of a nice segue, actually, to my first suggestion that Rob seems like a pretty nice underdog pick. Like, I mean, I know this is very obvious. You're getting very small plus money on him right now. I think the high, I'm trying to see the highest I can find, I think plus 115. I don't think you're getting any better than that. Maybe the line will move a little bit before fight night.
Starting point is 00:08:28 But if you're like a lot of people who think Maraub has been long overdue, he's Sean O'Malley's kryptonite, he's got all the grappling, you play it safe, you don't do anything crazy, you just put a nice little underdog bet on Marab, and there you go. You're plus for the weekend. If you need to spice things up a little bit, which I'm sure Jed did, I'm looking at some other things here. I like, this is really if you think one, O'Malley's going to win by knockout,
Starting point is 00:08:53 but you probably think's going to happen early. Or if you think Marab kind of overwhelms him with the grappling and finishes him within the first, say, two and a half rounds. So under two and a half on Bovada. Oh, by the way, people, I should say most of my numbers here are coming from BetOnline. If it comes from somewhere else, I'll mention somewhere else. So this is from Bovada.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Bet Online is usually has among the best, you know, always line shop if you can, but Bet Online does frequently have kind of the top shelf options, particularly in early lines. They drop lines earlier than most. So comprehensive for sure But yes, this is from Bavada Plus 230, fight under two and a half Again, I don't know if I'd bet on that
Starting point is 00:09:31 But I do think there's a lot of people They're expecting one guy to finish the other If that's the case, I don't think plus 230 is bad O'Malley by KO If you're going that way Plus 190, you might be better It might be better off taking the under two and a half But if you're one of those guys thinking
Starting point is 00:09:47 O'Malley's going to catch him Plus 190 And the other interesting O'Malley win this might be throwing money away if you think this goes to the cards and O'Malley can squeaky out a decision I think this has to you now excuse me this is strictly
Starting point is 00:10:00 specifically unanimous decision plus 425 I think some people might want to see the odds get even better odds than that because if this goes to decision you're probably picking Maraub and if O'Malley wins you're probably not paying a decision
Starting point is 00:10:12 but just letting people know that that is out there O'Malley has won decisions in the past Peyodor-Yon decision Andre Sukumtot off the top of my head where he like freaking blew his Neo out. So both weird circumstances, both not five round fights, but that's out there.
Starting point is 00:10:27 And just a couple of quickuns from Marab. Inside the distance from Marab, plus 775. I mean, that's kind of juicy. I don't think he necessarily has to grind out a win. It's a big number. Excuse me, even bigger. And I know why this number is where it is. Submission plus 2,000.
Starting point is 00:10:45 I think this is actually, I'm surprised. Well, I'm not surprised that high. Marab, I think, only has one submission to win his career. otherwise he's just decisioning people or you would think he's going to win by like you know tkl ground and pass or that but i feel like that submission is there i just i i it so if you're feeling again this is like five dollars i'm not telling you guys go crazy if you're taking marab by submission five dollars on a plus two thousand that's a yeah that's a fun bet you don't do that thinking like i'm gonna make my weekend on this bet because it's a long shot for a reason but i'm a little surprised given the the ground game of marab and how some people expect marab to win that uh you know submission's not a little bit a little bit lower but anyway that's so that's just stuff out there i'm not advising anything for me i would play it safe and i would just put some money on marab to win by whatever and that's like plus 150 the submission actually is a fun little moon shop bet but kind of you alluded to it i took sean amalley was my first round selection in the fantasy draft um for those who aren't aware basically we are it's fantasy mMA for the remainder of the year and so the
Starting point is 00:11:46 scoring criteria are 100 points for a win 50 for a finish you get uh more points for earlier finishes and kind of bonus points for title fights main events so AK and i are going to be getting 40 guaranteed points each from this and then the winner will get a lot more because of it and i do believe sean amale is going to win this fight i there was a time when i thought maraudela's really the best been waiting on earth um and it probably seems a little bit counterintuitive um that Sean O'Malley beating the hell out of Cheetahe O'Roh, who's not, maybe not even a top 10 Banimate, honestly, sold me, but it did because that that was just kind of a fight I needed to see from O'Malley
Starting point is 00:12:36 to show all facets of the game, the composure of a champion. And I think Marab is obviously an extremely good fighter. If he wins, I won't be stunned, right? He is, you know, he's on a 10-fight unbeaten streak or whatever. and say number it is. But he has to score takedowns to win this fight, and he has to score a lot of them and do so repeatedly. And certainly that is his entire game.
Starting point is 00:13:03 Like he already is like closing in on the most takedowns in UFC history, despite not having like that many competitive years behind him. But I think O'Malley is a lot more difficult to take down than people kind of give him credit for. I know that there is this impulse to respond to the Aljo loss or the Aljo win, Al Jermaine losing to him as Aljo screwed up and he tried to box. But really, Sterling never could get a good shot off. He would just have to be diving at ankles from far away because Amali is really, really good at controlling the range and kind of using that big space he can create to find counters as you sort of rush in.
Starting point is 00:13:48 Marab, extremely tough, extremely durable, but he does get hit a lot. He's been getting kind of hurt a lot more as well when he gets hit. Hasn't been finished, but, you know, gets dazed or stunned a little bit. I don't know if Amali's a good enough finisher, honestly, to kind of put the coffin nails and if he tags him. But I do think he is going to win this fight pretty comfortably, just forcing Marab to be uncomfortable at range. Maybe as the fight drags on, Marob's legendary cardio gives him. gives him some success in the later rounds. But for me, I'm just on Sean O'Malley.
Starting point is 00:14:23 It's why I took him first overall for the big, big bonus points and the potential in the fantasy draft that maybe he might headline that December card. And I'd get two bites at the proverbial apple here. But I'm taking him. I just took him straight up. I got him at plus money because I bet him back in August when he was when I still found him. So I've got him at plus 110. I would still be comfortable betting him now at the minus 1.20. line. I don't think the line's going to move much beyond this. If so, I suspect money will continue
Starting point is 00:14:54 to come in on O'Malley. You tend to see popular fighters, the closer fight week gets. O'Malley, obviously, very popular. You tend to see the money move that direction. So if you're going to take him, I think now is sooner. I don't particularly want to take him on any of the props. I flirted with maybe doing a decision because Marab is so tough. But I think there is still the chance that O'Malley Jal, jaws him and so getting him at plus 110 was like this is good enough on the other side of it if you want to be a marab i would actually say if you're a marab player you should back the instead of backing marab straight up just back the marab by decision uh like all of his career wins of of his uh 17 career wins 13 are via the judges and so it's just far more likely than not that
Starting point is 00:15:48 if you wins this, it is not with a finish. And you're getting a much better price of Marab by decision. Marab by decision ends up being like plus, hold on, where is it like plus 200, something like that? Yeah, I'm saying plus 200. Yeah, I would say that that would be the direction to go. And yeah, so that's our main event, AK, which brings us to our co-main event.
Starting point is 00:16:11 And AK, we talked about the main event. In the co-meat event, I also have a fantasy fighter in here as well, a co-mate event is Alexa Grasso defending her women's flyweight title against Valentina Shvchenko in the trilogy title fight. These women have met twice before. Grasso scored one of the greatest upsets in UFC history, literally bankrupted myself by finding a rear-naked choke in the fourth round against Shvchenko. They rematch what feels like a lifetime ago and was the weirdest.
Starting point is 00:16:46 A.K. It's one of the weirdest fights I've ever seen. Because as I'm watching the fight, I think to myself, well, Shivchenko lost. She deserves to lose this fight. And then it comes out a draw. And I think, well, that's not the worst scorecard I've ever seen. And then you see how the draw happened. And I know you're actually doing a write-up for the site this week. A retrospective on this. But by looking at the draw, actually, like, Grave also somehow should have lost, but like very clearly shouldn't have lost. A whole lot of shenanigans have gone around that somehow both women can feel unjustified, like unjustly robbed with an outcome that was a draw, and neither is wrong. But they're finally going to settle it all. They had a tough season. God, I know you love that. So good.
Starting point is 00:17:38 And I went against all of my lifelong fandom and where I've been, as the driver and conductor of the ship of the bullet train the Chevy truck i drafted alexa grasso a back-to-back two for i wanted the champions in both of these title fights this weekend and as a result take i'll just lead us off here i'm on her um she is a slight favorite right now minus one 35 come back on chifchenco plus 114 uh and i'm on grasso i got her at minus 125 so a little bit less than what it is now but not majorly uh and to me this fight is very simple they fought twice i thought grasso won both of them, frankly. And
Starting point is 00:18:18 Shevchenko's just not getting any younger. She is 36, but has been fighting for literally over two decades. It's been fighting since she was like
Starting point is 00:18:28 16 years old. So there's just so many miles on her. And Grasso is game and durable and a better fighter than I think she
Starting point is 00:18:40 even gets credit for despite being champion. And she is just going to compete with Shevchenko. for the entire time. And Shevchenko is one of the very greatest fighters we've ever seen.
Starting point is 00:18:51 If she pulls off the upset, I'll be a little bit happy about it, frankly. But, you know, they've fought for 40-some-odd minutes and Grasso has been the better woman. I see no reason for that to change, particularly as Grosso is getting better and Shevchenko is not. This will not be the best Chivchenko we've ever seen. Grosso's already fought a better Chichenko than she'll fight this time around. And so all that leads me to favor Grosso. But what about you?
Starting point is 00:19:16 Now, Jed, I know it's your job to, you know, to put to bet on things for this show. Was there not a part of you that said, I'm just going to stay away from betting on this Rosso, Shevchenk? Because, so we all don't have with the first fight. Then we all know how to have the first fight, we don't need to go over again. The second fight. So what were your bets on the rematch then? You didn't pick a winner, I'm assuming. You go, no, I rode Chevchenko again.
Starting point is 00:19:41 So you got, so you got the wrong. So you got screwed again? Well, I didn't get screwed. I kind of did. Because like when the fight was over, I was like, I lost. Yeah, yeah. I was just like in the fifth round when Grasso was taking over the fight in the fifth. I was like, I lost.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Okay. This woman is just categorically opposed to me making money. And good for her. She doesn't need to be worried about my bank account. That's not her job. And then suddenly it was a draw. And I was like, okay, I guess I could see maybe how that's a draw. it's probably not great judging
Starting point is 00:20:15 and then I looked at the judge and was like actually this judging is obviously incorrect and clearly Shivchenko should have won and which one you would have you would have won money which is again which is why I reiterate my question. Just stay away
Starting point is 00:20:32 what can't just stay away can't I can't I won't I'm just going to keep bashing my head against this though this time I've changed I've changed sides I'm on the gossip train. We'll see if this, maybe this one works out for me, or this will be the one she loses. You are a hero. We all know this. It doesn't need to be said. You are a hero. I just don't see how you can, I don't know why you would keep putting yourself through this. I feel like if we're playing it safe, and the odds are a lot worse than just picking Grasso, but I think fight goes the distance is the safest bet here. I'm seeing minus 180 on a
Starting point is 00:21:13 I think minus I think fight goes distance is a pretty fair bet I think again if you're just laying down one bet on this that's the way to go again minus 180 is not the best odds you're not getting like an amazing return on that but if you're just I'm just keep saying I'm trying to get people plus here I'm probably trying to stay and to be plus after this weekend I think that's the way to go now along those lines okay yeah I also say I do have a parlay it's just the chalkiest parlay going this week um took a took a feather out of my boy connor's cap and uh the over one and a half in this fight is minus 800 nice that is one of three legs to this parley as i believe it's about as safe as gambling can be is the over one and a half in this fight you got it you got a stable table you got a stable
Starting point is 00:22:05 table with that is a strong strong structural support okay uh of of this tripod we're building that one rock solid. Yeah, I know, I know one of the other ones for sure. I'm excited to see what. Yeah, I'm excited to see what the third one of the other one. I'm excited to see what the third one is. So yeah, that's my only recommendation there is maybe just just take Fico's distance. Again, minus 180's not great. If you got, if people think it's going to go to a split split again, it was a split last time, it was a split call. A split drop. A split drop. A split drop. It was a majority drop. It was a majority drop. It was a majority drop. It was a majority drop. Split. A majority drop. Split. decision win for either fighter here plus 250 and if this goes the distance i really could see this going to splitty city again um none of the finishing props are particularly compelling the only one i can kind of think of was again and this is almost like a marab moonshot like chufchenko by submission plus 1,000 depending where you look uh i just would but again this is only if you really need to make it more interesting but um i would just say fight goes the distance and take your winnings that's that's my call there how do you see the
Starting point is 00:23:12 fight going in general, though, okay? Where are you at? I think it's to be so similar to the first two fights, there's certainly the second fight because stylistically, they're great matchups for each other. Grasso is just peeking at the right time in their career. Shofchenko, a legend, and honestly, 80% of Shofchenko's prime is better still than probably, you know, the majority of the flyweight division, like, and probably almost everyone in the phantomweight division, if we want to have that discussion somewhere down the road. But sometimes someone just has your number, sometimes that age gap really matters. I'm not, again, I don't want to say Shropchenko is like super old.
Starting point is 00:23:50 It's just that she has a lot of mileage on it, a lot of mileage, a lot of experience. And it's hard to keep climbing that hill over and over and over again, especially when in her mind, there has to be that thought that she kind of successfully climbed that hill in the second fire, right? She, she's certainly not satisfied, but she has. has to feel like she did enough to win there. Now, can she, now, can she find that extra gear to secure a for sure, no controversy win? I question it.
Starting point is 00:24:20 I question it. Again, I don't even know if Grassland could do that. I think, like I said, I think it's going to be close, as it seems to be a close decision. But I'm kind of with you, Jedi Amling towards Grasso. And yeah, just betting her is also a pretty safe bet. Well, that takes us through our main two fights of the weekend, AK. We have plenty more. We'll probably go a little bit faster here.
Starting point is 00:24:41 but obviously there's just kind of the big talking points to the weekend. But there's one, you know, major fight as well. And we'll get to that. Okay, I'm going to do this new thing where I tell, I tell the listeners when they're about to have a commercial break. And so we'll get to that right after these messages. And we're back, A.K., and we're back.
Starting point is 00:25:04 We finished the two, the main and the co-main. The, I mean, this is, it's not a three-fight card, but it's kind of a three-fight card this weekend if you're looking for the big, big names. The rest of this pay-per-view main card is frankly not kind of to the quality that you probably maybe come to expect for pay-per-view events. They're here for separate reasons. But the feature about a featherweight knock on what we hope contest between Brian Ortega and Diego Lopez.
Starting point is 00:25:35 This fight was originally booked for earlier this year. what event was that at AK, do you recall offhand? Yeah, and it was a lightweight bout. It was going to be a lightweight bout or something? It wasn't going to be I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. He had said, Ortega had said he wanted to book a lightweight belt until they
Starting point is 00:25:53 came along with the Lopez fight. Then he tried to get back down to 145. That's right, because it was the international fight week. And so a fight kind of happens. Ortega makes weight, but then falls ill on fight night because the weight got blown the day before. And so then he negotiated like during weight cutting.
Starting point is 00:26:14 It was like, actually, I can't do this. It was all a fiasco. And then he pulls out anyway. And Diego Lopez fights Dan Ige on literal hours notice that the day of the event. Big monster story. It's wildly fascinating. And ultimately, this fight has been rebooked now full preparation. Hopefully we actually get it.
Starting point is 00:26:36 Nothing untoward happening. here and Brian Ortega is an underdog. He was a smaller underdog when they were originally matched up for UFC 303. He is a slightly bigger one now at plus 142. Come back on Lopez at minus 170.
Starting point is 00:26:51 Nobody had either picked either of these fighters in our fantasy draft. I think, frankly, because it's a competitive fight and it's tough to know exactly who is going to win or feel that confident in it. And so, A.K., I turn to you and I say, who is going to win? And do you have
Starting point is 00:27:07 any kind of wagers that you might recommend off this fight. Jed, easy, money. This is the underdog. I think this is the underdog bed of the week. I think this is the Lopez by decision. Lopez by decision, plus 200. Come on, people. I mean, I think he is favored.
Starting point is 00:27:26 He is favorite. Round minus 170, minus 180, depending on where you look. So he's favored to win. I don't think he's going to finish Brian Ortega. I would be very, no one finished Brian Ortega. I'd be very impressive. Or they do, they do it. Like, Max Holloway took four rounds,
Starting point is 00:27:40 just beating the mother effing S out of him. And it was like a corner stoppage or doctor stoppage. Better heads prevail. And they just said, Brian, we know you want to go out there for round five. At the time, Max is literally teaching him how to box in the case. I think we've seen enough, guys. And then the other one was a, what was the other finish? That was the injury to Yaya Rodriguez.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Yes. I do consider a true finish. Sure, sure. But it is obviously a different circumstance. than getting finished with strikes or submitted, submitted. So Diego Lopez, people seem to agree. He's the better fighter at this stage of the career. So you think he's going to win, it's going to be by decision.
Starting point is 00:28:17 Plus 200, guys. You're getting two to one odds on that. There you go. There's my recommendation for you. Don't bet on M.A. But if you're going to bet on M.A., take Diego Lopez by decision. See, AK, this is where my genius really comes in the focus, though. This is where people can learn from me.
Starting point is 00:28:32 Yeah, teach me. Here's how you gamble, guys. You got to create win-win. situations. The best bet is one that you cannot lose. And people are out there and they say things like this lock of the century, this bet can't lose. I have a bet that cannot pass. There is a zero percent chance this bet loses. It is the only guarantee in life, death taxes and this bet because I have placed a wager on Brian Ortega to win outright at plus 150. and the reason this can't lose, AK, is because if Brian Ortega wins, the bet wins.
Starting point is 00:29:15 And if Brian Ortega loses, I get to personally celebrate Brian Ortega losing. And if you have listened to any of our shows or you follow my work at all, I do not care for Brian Ortega the fighter. I have no comment on him as a person. I don't know him. We've never met him. But Brian Ortega, the fighter, drives me insane because I am convinced that he's He is very not good at fighting, and yet he keeps winning and beating people who are good at fighting.
Starting point is 00:29:44 And I cannot connect the dots. They don't work for me. It is just a personal blind spot. And so every time he wins, it infuriates me. But now if he wins, I'll win some money. And if he loses, I won't even care about the money because I was right. It is a all-win proposition. is one of the wisest bets I've ever made in my life.
Starting point is 00:30:09 And also just frankly, like, Brian Ortega, he's bad. I'm not saying he's a good fighter. I would never say he's a good fighter. He wins a lot of fights, man. He keeps beating people who are good fighters. And for as fun and exciting as Diego Lopez has been, and it unknowably has been, one of the breakout fighters of last year.
Starting point is 00:30:35 you know, clubbed up Sadiq Yusuf earlier this year. The Danny Ege fight, super short notice, but was very, very fun. I still feel like he's a little unproven in general. I mean, he's got very good wins, but Brian Ortega is a dude
Starting point is 00:30:51 that I don't think Diego Lopez can outgraple him, like, in a major way, and he can outstrike him because Brian Ortega just absolutely refuses to defend himself ever. But he can also get touched up And so I think this fight is very, very competitive. And with the number getting as big as it is on Ortega, I in general would be fine with an underdog shot.
Starting point is 00:31:14 But I personally am especially fine with it because I can't lose. I can only win this weekend day. Okay, I'm a genius. This is the strangest, like, pro Ortega pick I've maybe ever heard. It's not a pro-Ortega pick. It's an anti-Otega bet. It's the first time I'm feeling. eating a fighter by betting on them.
Starting point is 00:31:37 This is the first time you've done this for a natter-taker. Yes. And if this works, I can't, if this work, I mean, it will work. As I said, 100% guarantee. I cannot wait to bet Stepea Mietchich for the Madison Square Garden card. Because if Steepet wins, funniest result ever. I make a whole lot of money. If he loses, I don't, or I guess I'd be betting John Jones then.
Starting point is 00:32:02 I'm not really sure. I got to think this through. But either way, this can open up a whole new world of opportunities of just hate betting on fighters that I don't like. So, you know, I come out ahead either way it goes. This seems like such a terrible idea. But you're the gambling guy. I am not the gambling. No, it's a great idea, because I'll tell you exactly what this is.
Starting point is 00:32:28 Other people might, they might be hearing this, be like, I know what he's doing. It's the inverse of betting against your own team. Sure. You know, in other sports, a lot of other sports team, people want to bet against their own team because, hey, if the Patriots lose and I win money, you should never do that anyway because you don't want them, you don't want to, you know, profit off your team's failure. But doing the inverse and betting on things that you dislike, that's just smart business as far as I'm concerned.
Starting point is 00:32:57 So I'm very excited about this bet. My first, like, big, big underdogs, plus 150, you know, Sean O'Malley's right at even money, basically. This one cashes out. I'll feel pretty good. But, okay, that takes us to kind of the rest of the action where we start going from here. Two more fights on the main car. Yeah. And we do have another fantasy booked fighter competing in this next one.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Oh, yes. In a lightweight contest. And for my money, I really wish. They used a long time ago, okay, you won't remember this because you didn't bet. You used to be able to find books who would give you odds on bonuses ahead of the event. So I think this fight's going to win fight of the night, performance in the night, etc. Really, really wish there were books out there still doing this because the lightweight contest between Daniel Zell Huber and Esteban Riebevich, I think, is a very good potential to win fight of the night. I'm very, very excited to watch this one.
Starting point is 00:33:57 Zell Huber, your favorite currently minus 240. back on Riebevich plus 200, depending on the books you're at, obviously. And like I said, AK, I love this fight. I think it's a really, really good one. So, uh, before, I do have a wager here, but before I dive into it,
Starting point is 00:34:13 Sheen al-Shadi drafted Daniel Zell Huber. Zell Huber came into the UFC with a fair bit of hype behind him as an undefeated prospect. Loses to Trey Ogden in his debut. I lost some money in that evening. I was very upset. I was deeply unhappy with the, uh, situation that occurred at that moment in time.
Starting point is 00:34:32 Also, just pointed out there that was, you know, in September, but kind of one of the original No-J UFC-ish cards. But rattled off three in a row since then looked really good. Rebovich also previously was an undefeated prospect in the UFC. Still only 28 years old, lost to Loik Radzabov last year, but has rebounded with back-to-back wins most recently, obliterating Terrence McKinney in 37 seconds earlier this year. Like I said, it's a banger. Who do you got? Where are we at? I do want to take a moment here to caution people for like the rest of this card because a lot of the favorites on the rest of this card are in the age
Starting point is 00:35:18 range, I think like 25 to 27 or 28. So they're close to their prime. They're not quite in their prime. And what I'm saying is they're still like very unpredictable as far as results go. So, you know, the tendency would be to look at some of their previous results, their previous performances, of course, and to predict what's going to happen next. But in combat sports at this age, fighters can change so much. So guy who seems like a submission machine early in his career
Starting point is 00:35:42 might suddenly become get a lot of COs, guys who seems like a COM machine, might suddenly get a lot of subs or go start going to decisions a lot. So this is my warning for people. Because I think I do worry because there's some pretty substantial favorites here coming up that we're going to discuss that feel like, oh, this is just easy picks. And it's like, it's a tricky one.
Starting point is 00:35:59 Just be wary of age, guys, I think, when you're looking at these sort of prospects or slightly post-prospect fighters. Zell Huber Rievitz, I think, like you said, Jed's going to be a banger. And I think some people are expecting a finish because both men are prolific finishers. However, and Jed, I'm sure you know this, neither man has been finished. So should this end inside the distance, it will be the first time for one of these guys on the losing end of that situation. So I say if you think that this fight
Starting point is 00:36:35 is going to get end in a finish, you just go all the way with it. You go you go reverets for the upset. Inside the distance, I'm seeing plus 500. You just go don't, I mean, you could go Zell Huber, that's a bit boring.
Starting point is 00:36:47 You go, you go rebits. If you think it's going to end with a finish, which I am not confident it will, you go with the underdog. Otherwise, I'm just using Zell Huber as part of it, partly.
Starting point is 00:37:00 Bold. because I'm on Esteban Rebovich here. Okay. I, in a vacuum, I favor Zell Huber to win this fight, straight up, like I'm just picking straight up. I think these odds are really long. Rievovich, the only guy lost to Luke Radzbov, he took him down a billion times, and that's not Zell Huber's game.
Starting point is 00:37:19 Zell Huber is big. He is a bigger man than Riebovich, and a very, you know, they're both very competent quality strikers, but Riebovich is going to be firing a ton of all. volume on the feet was Zell Huber. And I think this is just going to be a back and forth affair, very competitive in all phases. Neither man, I just don't see either man running away with this one. And so we're getting plus 200 on Rievovich. I got him at plus 205.
Starting point is 00:37:48 I just, that's a big number. And so I'm prepared to lose this one. I'm not, like I said, I favor Zell Huber to win, but not by the extent the odds are implying. because I think we're doing that thing where every Mexican fighters probably getting a little more juice than they should just because this is the love letter to Mexican MMA
Starting point is 00:38:10 this is Noce UFC you kind of tend to see that the matchmaking tends to want to favor the Mexican fighters you'll see up and down this card mostly their favorites but perhaps this is just me having been burnt by Zell Huber in his debut against Trey Ogden Drey Ogden is not as good a fighter as Esteban Riebevich, basically.
Starting point is 00:38:31 And so pretty wide number. And I am on the Argentinian underdog, which brings us to the opening card, the final fight of the main card. Rinaldo Rodriguez taking on Ode Asborne in a flyweight contest. Rodriguez is a former Lux fighter who was signed earlier this year and beat Deney Bondar in his debut. Ode Osborne, been around the UFC for... of feels like a lifetime at this point. I think he was on Contender Series in 2019. So he's been around for a long, long time.
Starting point is 00:39:04 Rodriguez, your favorite, minus 135, Ode Osborne at plus 114. And, uh, AK, I'll lead us off here because this is a very, very simple breakdown for me. I do have a bet. This is a bit more of a reach. This is me just having a little bit of fun. And, uh, it's not even a full, full bet. Just a little half unit splash down. Rodriguez, I'm still not really sure what to make of him, but he's a fun grappler.
Starting point is 00:39:31 He's certainly very fun with that in his debut. And Ode Osborne, when he loses, he gets finished. Six of his seven career losses have been by stoppage. Most of those are by submission. I think I obviously favor Rodriguez on the ground here. And so it took a little splash on the Rodriguez by sub prop. It's plus 375. It's a pretty big number for what I think is a very, very possible outcome here.
Starting point is 00:39:56 I've just never been that sold on O'Day Osborne. He's four and five in the UFC. Though, we'll shout out to him. One of his UFC wins is over Jerome Rivera, who Rodriguez actually lost to in the contender series, but that was like three or four years ago. He's grown a little bit as a fighter since then. So taking a little splash on Rodriguez by sub.
Starting point is 00:40:18 Didn't really like anything else and wanted to have some fun. And this seemed like a fun little bet. Jed, that's the one. Rodriguez, it's got a handful of choke wins. I'm not saying it's not his specialty, but you look at his resume. He's got a fair bit of wins by rear-naked choke or triangle choke. And Osborne, he gets choked a lot.
Starting point is 00:40:36 His last two fights, he got choked. And that may be reason for people to veer away from that because they might be like, what are the chances this guy gets choked out three fights in a row? But combat sports is pretty dumb. This happens to fighters sometimes, guys, just get this some unfortunate Achilles heel and they just keep getting caught by the same stuff.
Starting point is 00:40:54 So as you said, submission just seems very likely here. If you're going to pick the favored Rodriguez, you know, don't just go for the, you know, straight pick. I think you do have to go Rodriguez by finish. And inside the distance, there's like plus 165. Nah, no, no, no. Go get that extra choose. You got to go submission. And shouts to Ode Osborne, who if you had made me bet, I would have bet anything short of my life that O'Day Osborne would never find himself on a pay-per-view main card.
Starting point is 00:41:24 Much less the greatest combat sports event of all time, Jed. Not the greatest combat sports event, the greatest live sporting event of all time. He's one of the five main fights against, again, a guy in Ronaldo Rodriguez who's not like a household name. So I don't know how they got here, but credit to them for taking advantage. I hope they take advantage this opportunity. Now, Jed, are flywood under's back, though? I know you said you only put the one bet on this, but under one and a half? I am not willing.
Starting point is 00:42:00 Flyweight unders, we briefly thought earlier this year might be back. I'm not certain that they're back. We've abandoned them for now and maybe forever. Heavyweight overs, they might be returning very, very soon because it's, heavyweight overs isn't about winning or losing. It's about the most electric bet in combat sports. really. But speaking of electricity, AK, the next fight, we got to talk about fireworks, electricity,

We're back, and I preface this. I got the people excited. I left them on a cliffhanger. That's good podcasting because they all know what's coming,
Starting point is 00:44:03 and they were so ready to talk about Irene Aldana versus Norma Dumont in the prelim main event, a women's bantamweight. That's right. Women's 135. Some say the best division in the sport. Irene Aldana minus 110 a stone pickum
Starting point is 00:44:25 in most places and AK this has special significance for you because in the robust in the some might say
Starting point is 00:44:36 overflowing streets of talent that was women's ban and weight you have all the options in the world and you drafted Irene Aldana for your fantasy team my last deal
Starting point is 00:44:48 my last My last pick, my last pick for my team, what a steal. And she's going to net me some points since Saturday. An outright theft. So you believe she's going to name you some points. Is she going to come away with the big W then? Oh, hell's yeah. Oh, hell's yeah, Chad.
Starting point is 00:45:01 Give me that, Aldana by K.O. Oh, wow. Plus 550. We are all over that. Dumont is not good. No, Dumont is not good. I'm sorry. I won't go on a Brian Ortegaquez-S brand against Norman Dumont.
Starting point is 00:45:18 She has had certainly had success in the cage. She has, like, on paper a good looking record. I think, what, seven of her last eight? She has won. I get it. She's beating people who I did not think she would beat. And yet somehow I remain unconvinced that she is a player, even at 135. I think Aldana is way better.
Starting point is 00:45:39 She's one of the few finishers in the 135-pound division. Plus 550, man, that's a good number. I feel, again, and I remind people. I am not betting myself. If I were, it would be like $5, bets, maybe $10 if I was feeling crazy. But $5 on a plus $5.50, that's just a good time.
Starting point is 00:45:57 I say go for it. If you want to take women's bantamweight overs, which is almost like heavyweight overs, except I think of the hit even more, minus $400 over two and a half. I don't know, I just can't be worth it. That can't be worth it. That's no fun.
Starting point is 00:46:11 So take the K.O. I mean, I love you having just fun with it. That is, that, that's, because again, gambling is supposed to be fun. But the most fun thing you can do in gambling is win. And I actually am with you on the Aldana pick. I am, but I'm taking and betting Irene Aldana straight up. But, AK, I'm not doing it because I believe in her. I'm doing it because it's a pick and fight.
Starting point is 00:46:40 And because in the first episode of the new world without Connor Brooks, I had to go back to the well. I had to find the original second, the original third chair, the true second chair. Yes. And arguably the greatest selector of fights known to man. I'm talking, of course, about chat ch pt. The chat ch pt bet of the week, we're going to be doing a chat tpt bet every week I've decided in the new era. And this is a chat cpt bet of the week.
Starting point is 00:47:09 I was trying to get one that's very, very close. So now I'll have to think about it because if you're new here, I started doing this. I don't know, at the end of 2023 and they kept hitting many times their chat GPT's description of fights is maybe not exactly what happens. So a couple of times it has been eerily close,
Starting point is 00:47:28 but it is extremely good at picking winners to the tune of a 72% success rate. Last time I actually crunched the numbers. It makes money. And so I plugged it in. I went to chat GPT and I'm going to give
Starting point is 00:47:44 you the read out of how this fight goes. Round one. Fight started cautiously with Aldana circling, looking to establish her jab. Dumont aware of Aldana's knockout potential. To your point, A.K., she stayed at distance, tried to throw leg kicks to disrupt Aldana's rhythm. Two minutes into the round, Dumont closes distance for a takedown, but Aldana sprawls perfectly, gets the fight to the feet, and towards the end of the round, she finds a range, lands a hard cross that wobbles Dumont, you know, clenches up, makes it to the buzzer. round two dumont comes out a little more aggressive starts shooting takedowns immediately and succeeds getting aldon to the canvas and has two minutes of top control aladonna remains very calm and finally does work her way back up to the feet gets off a flurry of strikes before the end of the round lands a clean left hook but dumont you know works through is fine tied up one a piece heading into the third and a k in the third round both women come out with a sense of urgency al donna sharp with her boxing landing combinations and midway through the round. Dumas shoots for a
Starting point is 00:48:46 takedown. Aldana sprawls, reverses, top position, heavy punches, elbows, Dumont scrambling. Aldana, relentless with the ground and pound and forces the referee to step in. Chat-GPT's official prediction is Irene
Starting point is 00:49:02 Aldana defeats Norma Dumont by TKO at 347 of the third round. And so, A.K., I am on Irene, Adana. I got a founder on a book at plus 100, so even money. And I am also, though chat CBD is predicting the COB, but I won't follow you there. Come on.
Starting point is 00:49:24 I am, however, taking the over one and a half. It's the second leg of my parley. It's minus 900 because eight of Dumont's nine UFC fights have gone over one and a half. 11 of Aldana's 13 UFC fights have gone over one and a half. So again, I feel like it's a very stable basis that we've built this parlay on. We have a third leg to add to it. But, AK, Chad GBT, GBT, agrees the KO is the way to go. It's giving you this plus 550, Chad, and you're, you know what?
Starting point is 00:49:55 As of the recording of the show, we still have a few days before the card starts. So I hope you go to sleep tonight. But that plus 550 and the chat GPD prediction going through your head. Because you got a time. Fine. Fine. I'll throw a little splash down on Aldana by K.O. This is why I'm here.
Starting point is 00:50:14 This is why I am here to help people bet responsibly. This is why I'm here. Did you know? I'm just looking at her Wikipedia. Irene Al-Dan has three Fight of the Knights. There's nothing to do with the bet. I'm just surprised because I was saying, I wonder how many other women's band-o-weights even have, like,
Starting point is 00:50:34 fight than, like even Ronda Rousey, most of her fights ended quickly. I don't think she would fight at Misha Tate the second fight. Maybe, maybe. Misha Tate for, I was going to say maybe the Tate, maybe Ronda got one for. Even the fight with her debut, who used to debut. That was exciting. They might have given a tour of that. I was going to say, could be the debut.
Starting point is 00:50:55 Um, um, because, you know, the, how that first round unfolded and you're getting in there. Rousey gives up the back and has to fend off that choke for a very long time in her UFC debut. But then, I don't know, man. Let me let me look this up. You could convince me, but that also still was like a one-round fight against Karmouche, right? Yeah, yeah, it was. But listen, according to chat, GBT, are you getting this KO? Not only are you getting this KO, but we could be getting back-to-back Iranian-Al-Dana fight.
Starting point is 00:51:34 of the Knights. That Carol Rosa banger last time. So I don't know, man. I just like Aldana a lot. I'm happy to have her on my team. Whether she gets that KO or not, I'm happy to have her. I think she's going to win. I'm just looking at someone has a nice Wikipedia list.
Starting point is 00:51:49 And I think it's definitely Irina Aldana, the leader in women's band and weights, fight of the nights. A.K. Oronda has two fighters. Two. Yeah. Misha Tate was one. Sure. The other.
Starting point is 00:52:00 Holly Holie home. Oh, God. That shouldn't count. I've pulled up UFC 193 now to like, because I can't, I don't, I don't have Jose's photographic memory for stuff like this. And it's like trying to look was it just, were there not good fights that evening? And to be fair, there were not a lot of good fights that evening. That's the, that's the Forrest Griffin getting fight of the night for getting humiliated by
Starting point is 00:52:30 Anderson Silva thing. I'm like, it's like, and I'm not against it. I'm never against those fight of the night because like, yeah, listen, it takes two people to make these insanely dumb moments happen. So, yeah, the person was they better, they should get an extra 50 G's. Jared Rochalt won a UD over Stefan Stroo. Classic. Classic. Classic.
Starting point is 00:52:48 Like, Yoni and J. Chick-Vallory, Laterno, that was not a good fight. So, yeah. Reasonable, don't hate it. Sure. But so that's a lot on Aldana Dumont, but we've done it. Not enough, not enough, but we can move on. Not enough, but we can move on. More than enough.
Starting point is 00:53:04 We have four more fights. We're going to cruise through them so we can get out of here in a tidy little fashion. Your next contest, a lightweight contest, Ignacio Bahamondez taking on Manuel Torres, a little special one for me. Manuel Torres is my lightweight representative in the draft. And I had to triple check that I drafted him because I am genuinely unsure why I did this. Like, kind of anathema to all of my other sort of ideals of drafting. people. He was on my board. I kind of, I went and pulled up my board. He was there. And I think I
Starting point is 00:53:36 just got caught up in the energy that, um, certainly Shaheen was bringing to it where he was taking as many people fighting early as possible. But, uh, I wanted Benwasandini, didn't get Ben Juan Juan Juan Suarez. Manuel Torres. An actual, like, he is currently a, let me actually check this, because I think I wrote these odds down incorrect and I want to make sure I'm not giving out just stone wrong odds here. Manuel Torres is a minus 120 favorite. That is, and Bahamanda is plus 100.
Starting point is 00:54:09 A very, very close fight. So I'm not really sure why I put forward because also, Bahamondi is really tough. Dude doesn't really get finished. So it seems unlikely that I'll be getting finished bonuses. But in for a penny, in for a pound. I'm rodding with my boy.
Starting point is 00:54:24 And so I'm betting my boy. Straight up, took him at the minus 120. And my hope here is that we can get the fight of the night. because I do think this is a fun little scrap, but it seems unlikely that Bahamondez gets finished. That being said, this is a very straightforward to me. Torres is a really fun, really exciting, all-offense kind of guy,
Starting point is 00:54:43 and I hope he puts that offense, brings it to bear on Bahamondes, and does something cool on Saturday. It gets me some much-needed points. I'll just tell this up for the Bahamundas pickers. If you're going with him, go with him by decision, plus 450. That's what I would say.
Starting point is 00:54:58 Yeah, I think that's probably very, very, very, True. Our next fight up and another fantasy individual competing this. That is correct, right? Yep. Somebody who. Team Sheen again. Team Sheen. I forgot Sheen took her again. Yasmin Yadigwey taking on Ketland Suza. Sheen Ashadi has Yergoy on his squad as the representative for 115, which is where this fight's happening. Women's strongweight. And AK, I'm also just going to keep this.
Starting point is 00:55:31 this one very brief. One of the few fights I have no action on, and I have no action on it because this line is insane. Yes. Minus 500 for Yardui, Ketland Sousa plus 380. I don't think Ketland Sousa is like a great fighter. I think Yarduai is far from being approved enough
Starting point is 00:55:48 to be earning a minus 500 price in a fight like this. And so a full stay away. And frankly, my heart is with Ketland Sousa this weekend, because if she can deny, machine out of shot at any points that would be unbelievable for my fantasy prospects this season uh yeah i can't see any value in straight betting hargy i think the i'm saying like the best you get minus 450 was just why would you do that um so senseless i don't mind susa as an underdog i really don't uh i'm seeing as high as plus 404 on cloud bet so again four to one odds in a fight that i think
Starting point is 00:56:28 you and I both think is closer than the general public is giving credit for? Like, I know they're hot. I understand that. Hargi is very, very good. I get it. And Susa is a bit of a wild card. Yeah, but she got deleted by Denise Gomez. It's not like she's unbelievable, you know?
Starting point is 00:56:48 Yeah. And again, it's weird. We just haven't seen enough of her until, like, I've earned this. I think you're right. This is the extra juice for some of the Mexican fighters on the card. So I do like Susa Undubon. If you're going to go Hargi then, I was a little surprised that inside the distance wasn't getting more choose with her. She's so heavily favored.
Starting point is 00:57:08 So inside the distance, plus 220. So if people, if you're on the train and you think she's going to. That's way better. Yeah. If you really are so confident Hargi, then you just go inside the distance, man, plus 220 because just bending her straight is senseless. And, you know, how to horse say. Sus has never been to the cards and lost. Like if she goes to the judge.
Starting point is 00:57:27 She is one when she all of her four career losses they were all by finish and I hate to bring this up AK because I know how I know this may hurt you to say but in her last fight Susan was also a big underdog against Marnikman and it was not a Marnik man day it was not it was not another yeah yeah so uh you know proven winner as an underdog massive odds I just I think these odds are way out of whack I already had plenty of action and so I didn't take a Bet Suzon principle, but my heart is certainly with her because it would be just the best if she had got no point. Sheen drafted Yasmin Yargoi and got no points from her. Oh, chef's kiss would be so good.
Starting point is 00:58:12 Our second fight of the evening, another men's flyweight contest. Edgar Chira is taking on Joshua Van. Chira's your underdog plus 190 van coming in as the favorite minus 230 and AK. this is a very, very easy breakdown for me. I really like Josh Vann. Like him as a fighter, he's still only 22. I think that there's a ton of upside for this young man, and I'm very excited to see what he can be.
Starting point is 00:58:38 I'm very not excited to see him come back under these circumstances, though. We're talking about a guy who got knocked out pretty badly by Charles Johnson back in July, and he is trying to make a very quick turnaround here and just get back in there trying to get a win back. You know, all things considered, I favor him to win. this fight. I do think he is the superior striker to Chiris, but the circumstances of his return are very, very, they're very off-putting for me. And so another fight that I just totally passed on in action, there's no fantasy implications, no nothing. I'll just watch this one as a fan.
Starting point is 00:59:16 I think it would be a good scrap. I like Chiris. He's a really fun fighter. I think this can be fun. I would like it a lot better than had had a little more time after his loss. to Charles Johnson. I was hoping for a little more flyweight under talk. I'm not going to lie. Maybe I'm out of touch with what the kids are betting on these days. But just for anyone out there who thinks this will go under, one and a half plus 260 on Bovada, that's a little sketchy,
Starting point is 00:59:41 two and a half plus 165 on BetUS. That might be safer. Josh Van, most of his finishes are second round and after. So if you went for the 1.5 under 1.5, you'd probably be sweating that quite a bit. Under 2.5, though, I do think Van can get a finish here. And Chyres is on pace to have a very, very weird career. And I expect something that could crazy could happen here.
Starting point is 01:00:06 So flyweight unders, man, I say the 2.5. I say people will go for it. Also, it's very possible this won't be a flyweight contest come fight night. Shirez has missed weight previously. Yes. You know, flyweight tends to have a lot more weight mess than other weight classes. So maybe, look, if both of the flyweight unders hits, for the next event,
Starting point is 01:00:27 maybe I have to reconsider my position. But we got one last fight to talk about because there's other stuff happening this weekend. There's a Bellator. There's, of course, Canelo Alvarez is competing this weekend as KSW. We're not talking about any of that, AK. We're talking about this last fight of the weekend, the first fight of the weekend.
Starting point is 01:00:47 For us, though, in Raul Roses Jr., I'm sorry, I'm sorry, that's incorrect. 19-year-old Raoul Roses Jr., taking on A Ricci Lang in the Bantamweight contest to open up the cards. Biggest betting favorite of the night, Raul Roses Jr., minus 850, coming in against Ehrichie Lang at plus 575. And, you know, I'd like to get cute. I'd like to say, fade the 19-year-old because he's 19.
Starting point is 01:01:18 Maybe he just has a bad acne day and his hormones flare up and his acutane sure you know messes with his head and he he doesn't do his best but this is not the matchup that's going to be a problem for him richie lang is not a great defensive wrestler in the first place has three submission losses in his career already ral rosses junior is not trying to be a guy to develop himself in the cage uh he's not trying to just get in rounds and oh today i'm going to be a striker because i can be he knows where his bread is buttered and Boy, he goes to it. I expect him to shoot takedowns.
Starting point is 01:01:58 Try and get this crowd active early. It's certainly what the UFC is open. It's why they put him on the evening first, you know, instead of being a pay-per-view spot, which they kind of normally, you know, would want to do with him. They want him to be the opening bout of the evening to get the crowd pumped,
Starting point is 01:02:13 to get people in the door early. And I think that's going to pay off for him. And so very straightforward, AK, Raul Rost is inside the distance, minus 360. That's the third leg of the part. You take all three of those together. It comes out to about minus 169 odds. So it's not even amazing odds, but like I said, I think all three legs are very rock solid.
Starting point is 01:02:35 And this one will be done, you know, five minutes into the bout probably. Well, I'll have resolution here. So, AK, you got any thoughts on the opening fight of the evening? What was the, so what was, give people the whole tripod here? Oh, so the entire tripod is Grasso-Shipchenko over one. and a half rounds minus 800. I mean, Aldana, Norma Dumont, over one and a half rounds, minus 900.
Starting point is 01:03:01 Raoul Roses Jr., inside the distance, minus 360. No gimmick parlay's, just straight value on things that I'm very, very confident will happen. And you said that's giving you minus 160 something? Minus 170, basically. Minus 169. Wow. I just like that Aldana.
Starting point is 01:03:17 I like that the women's mantonweets are part of that. You know what? That's a great tripod. Yes, Roses inside the distance, probably. You're right. It makes sense of parli. piece. If people wanted to straight bet it, sure, again, you'd have to put down quite a bit of cash to make any profit from that, but better than just betting him straight. Under one and a half
Starting point is 01:03:33 minus 140, the fight under one and a half. But if you're doing that, you really should just go roses in round one. So if you, if people are looking for some sort of plus bet here, rosas in round one plus 145, it's a little iffy because again, he's, he's such a grinder. There's a chance it takes him, you know, he's going to those guys who finishes more like second or third round, one of those guys. He does have some, first round finishes on his resume, but R. Ritchie Lange might be a little too tough for that. But again, if you're going under anyway, if you're going under, you may as well get plus go with Roses in round one.
Starting point is 01:04:06 Can we get to a big parlay here? There are a lot of big parley options. Yes. Do like all Mexican favorites? Of course. Did you do the math on that one already? I didn't do the math on that one because I'm not into it. Ooh.
Starting point is 01:04:19 Of course. I wouldn't either. I think I think really any parlay more than like four fighters is crazy. and I've never hit one and I never will. But again, if you're someone who's gambles for fun and just likes to make these gimmicks, yes. So this is all the favorites. Only favorite fighters.
Starting point is 01:04:35 A wise man once told me we don't parlay underdogs. So this is only favorite fighters. So it'll be Grasso minus 132. Oh, sorry. These are via Bet River. This is if you do a parlay on Bet River. Grasso minus 132, Lopez minus 190. Zell Huber minus 250.
Starting point is 01:04:51 Rodriguez minus 132. Like somebody is like, honestly, if you take out some of the bigger, ones. You can actually get some nice on. Aldana minus 115, Torres minus 121, Hargey minus 480, Roses Jr. minus 770. That gives you a whopping plus 2977. Again, it'll change a little bit depending where you decide to do this parlay if you did. And a $5 bet would get you about $150. So that is, again, if you're just really, that's sizable. Again, but we, we, people who have listened to the show we have pointed out some holes and a few of these underdogs of course i would not advise
Starting point is 01:05:29 doing that but it's a fun moon it's a fun one i support but i support parlaying underdogs when it's fun moon shots yeah like remember when all the canadians won at that one ufc event imagine how like how stupid you would have felt if you didn't just do the all-canadian farlay you know what i mean like oh i was right there so it happens very available yeah it happens i couldn't be me i can't imagine doing that. But, AK, that's it. That's UFC 306 in the books. And where do we go from here, AK?
Starting point is 01:05:59 So just very briefly, like I said, we're going to have a week off because following this, there's no UFC next weekend. After that, it's UFC Bari. Hanato Morcano taking on Binwasan Dini. We will have a no-best part, obviously, for that. Potentially it will be the new format. I suspect that's much.
Starting point is 01:06:20 more likely going to happen for UFC 307, which is just around the corner. But until then, we got a lot of action this week still coming to enemy fighting.com. A lot of content coming to mefying.com preview show, the whole shabang watch party. This Saturday, I'm particularly excited because for the first time, I am in the chair. It's right. I am taking over for Connor Burke's as number two to the inimitable Mike Heck doing the watch party at my place. Once again, the final Mushu Mansion watch party.
Starting point is 01:06:50 before we transpose this to a brand new location. Very excited to do that. And just a whole bunch of other stuff because it's a big, big fight week. So, A.K., thank you for joining on. Your application to be second chair is noted. And do you have anything to say to people before we get the hell out of here? Yes, don't bet on MMA people. Don't bet on MMA.
