It's the mixed martial arts hour with...
The mixed martial arts hour back in your life.
On this Monday, June 3rd, 2013, it is so great to be back here
for another three-plus hour edition, maybe even two-plus hours this time.
Who knows? We like to keep you guessing.
Nevertheless, it's going to be a great show here.
We're in New York City, a heat wave this weekend.
Now it's a little rainy, a little colder, so it's good to be inside doing this show for all of you.
A lot going on in the world of mixed martial arts.
It was a relatively quiet weekend as far as UFC events go.
But some interesting action.
Carl Pendred, who you heard on the show last week, picked up a big win over in Ireland.
Jessica I, top ranked 125 pounder, picked up a win in a rain-soaked cage on Saturday night.
And now we find out that Antonio Hoseerio Nogera, just yesterday afternoon, he's out of UFC 161,
and there are some rumors that a gangster from Westland, Oregon may step in on short notice.
We're going to try to confirm that as this show moves along.
Who's on the show today?
That's the bigger question.
Of course, joined in the back, as always, by Buzzkill Brendan.
New York, Rick.
We'll hear from him a little later on.
A lot to talk to New York, Rick, about as far as Rick's fit is concerned.
Third round of the RPI, the Ricks Invitational.
That's going down.
Lots to talk to him about.
We'll talk to him in the third hour.
And, of course, we've got Mike and Will the thrill in the back there as well.
A little late today.
We apologize for that, some tech difficulties,
but we have a whole new camera set up back here.
So we're doing this for you.
I hope you appreciate it.
In the third hour, excuse me, in the second hour, we're going to be talking to Maham Miller.
He'll be in studio, his first appearance since the last time he broke our set just a few months back.
He'll be stopping by.
We'll also talk to Brendan Schaub.
He'll be stopping by.
He has a big BJJ match at MetaMorris this weekend, June 9th against Cyborg Abrae.
And we'll also take your questions and comments.
We've got a great prize for you.
Hit us up hashtag the MMA hour.
But first, in studio, how about this?
We've got John Volante and some guys.
who's going to be fighting Anderson Silva in a matter of days, Chris Wyden, who is such a fighter now that he walks around with one of it?
Is this part of the deal you have to walk around with those things?
You're not a tough guy in New York City unless you get one of these guys.
It's a little obnoxious.
No, it's a little bit of nauseous.
It's a little embarrassing because it kind of brings you into the juice head category.
But you got to do what you got to do.
You got to stay hydrated.
Guys, thanks for coming.
No problem.
How are you?
How are you?
Forget about you for a second.
How's your eye?
I'm good.
Yeah?
Good.
Yeah.
I would have been good if they let me kept going.
Yeah.
Good right now.
Did you have to deal with anything?
I mean, medically, or were you just fine, like, an hour or so later?
No, I was good an hour or so later.
Just, you know, some shin problems from kicking a lot, but, you know, I was perfect.
Man, he was good 30 seconds later.
Yeah.
It was just about 10 seconds when the ref told everybody.
Do you agree, though, that it was a mistake to tell him that you couldn't hear, or you couldn't see, excuse me?
Yeah, but, I mean, if I'm asked that question at that moment, I'm, I'm thinking.
thinking, you know, I'm not thinking what the rules are.
I'm just, if I'm asked as soon as I get poked in the eye if I could see.
He's a good guy. He's going to tell the truth.
His parents didn't bring him up as a liar.
Someone asks if he can't see, he's going to say, no, I can't see right now.
You know, I just got poked in the eye.
Did you try to, you know, reverse the decision, appeal the decision?
I think we were thinking about it, but then I found out in the rule if you say that,
that, you know, that's the rule that you're not supposed to say that.
But I don't think they're supposed to, they should ask you that right away.
They should wait a minute.
Yeah.
You know what's fun about this situation?
Two and a half years ago, you came on my show.
You were going to fight Chad Greg's first round of the Strike Force Grand Prix.
And you came out.
I was very excited.
You're much talked about, big prospect.
And you're like, can I bring my friend Chris?
And I felt that it was going to be a little awkward.
I didn't know much about him.
Didn't think he would amount to anything.
And for those that missed it,
I want to go take a trip down memory lane
because it's very fun how the whole thing happens.
Do we have the clip?
I believe we do have the clip.
Let us go to this clip of me,
John Valenti, Chris Wyman, February of 2011
where Chris Wyman is essentially introduced to the world.
It's a lot of fun.
Here we go.
I look younger.
Have a seat, Chris.
This is Chris Wydenman, right?
pronouncing that correctly.
You are a big prospect as well, my friend.
Four and O. Ring of Combat, right?
Yep.
Middleweight champ?
Yep.
You beat Ryan Bader in college?
Yep.
Man.
Who's the other guy?
Who's the other guy?
Who's the other guy?
Come on.
We gotta call people out.
Yeah, come on, come on.
Phil Davis.
You beat Phil Davis in college.
Wow.
He won nationals, I didn't.
And you fight at 185?
Yeah.
Those are big boys.
Yeah, I cut a lot of weight for 85.
Wow.
You know, when I decided to get in M.A., I wanted to take it very serious.
Obviously, you know, making it my career.
And when I was wrestling, I always felt like if I had a disadvantage, it might have been size.
I was facing, you know, guys.
like Ryan Bader and Phil Davis, and, you know,
I felt like my body type might have been a little small in there.
So down to 85 I go, you know.
And how do you feel in terms of your progression?
Your 4-0, obviously.
I mean, what are the goals here for you?
How far away are you from fighting on Strike Force cards, UFC cards, etc?
Hopefully as soon as possible.
I mean...
You're ready?
I feel like I'm ready, definitely.
You know, just trying to stay injury-free, which is so hard, you know.
But, you know, I'm in talks with...
I talk to Strike Force, talk to Bellatory.
you know, highly interested.
But right now, you know, my coach is very long ago, Matt Sera.
They kind of want me to be in the UFC.
They feel like that's where I should be.
Well, they're a little bias.
Right.
A little bias, yeah.
So, yeah, it's tough.
You know, it's tough.
You know, I'm living in the basement, wife, you know, baby.
And, you know, I'm so tempted to just take the quick money and take one of these, you know,
spots.
But in the long run, you know, some of the people who are guiding me into the right direction
are saying, you know, I should wait.
So, you know what's so much fun about that?
There's a few things that jump to mind here.
or come to mind.
First off, you mentioned the injuries.
You were really injured.
Oh, yeah.
That's actually a broke,
I had a fractured rib, right,
as we were speaking then.
And I think a couple days later,
they asked me to fight a lesse as a guy.
They told me it was because they saw you on the show.
They thought you were ready.
They were very impressed.
They liked my interview.
And you were so nervous.
Like, then no one watching,
don't tell anyone.
You said it on the end.
You kind of alluded afterwards that you were dealing with a group.
Yeah, but it's funny.
The press didn't really come out
and kind of screwed me over.
Yeah, no one really watches it,
especially back then.
Right.
Now it's even worse, actually.
You mentioned Strike Force and Bellator.
At that point, you had not talked to the UFC yet.
No.
I mean, they just wanted me to get some more fights.
Well, they were actually saying that there was no room on the roster.
You know, it's real tough right now.
They had too many guys.
So Bellator and Strike Force looked like it was going to be the place for me,
especially Bellator at the time.
You made some news recently about Bellator.
You know, I got nothing bad to say about Bellator at all.
Like, they really handled me the right way.
way. It just ended up not working out.
Except for that extra clause
in there that you didn't know about.
How nice for them? A little confusion
going on, but, you know, I was young
and I don't, listen, I don't want to bad mouth
anybody. I'm worried about one thing. Anderson Silva
July 6th. That's what I want to talk. You told me you actually didn't want to
talk about Anderson. You did say that. I just said I'm not talking any crap.
You know, I'm just very focused on this fight
and I'm just, I'm just ready to go, man.
What's interesting about you is when I mentioned that you're going to be on the show,
people like, oh, are we going to hear Chris Wyman
wine?
again. We're tired of his bitching.
Why do they think you're whining?
I don't know, man.
You know, I'm confident, and anytime I think
you're confident against the greatest of all time,
people might have taken offense to that. Like, who the heck
does he think he is talking the greatest of all the time like that?
But, you know, there's nothing,
you know, I have nothing
bad to say by Ness and Silver. I think he is the greatest
of all time, but I believe I'm going to go in there
and beat him. Two and a half years ago, did you think
he would be in this position this quickly?
Well, maybe not this quickly.
I mean, this is quick, man.
skyrocketed up that, but I knew how good he was.
The guy's beast.
It's weird because...
Most people don't get this opportunity this quickly in their career,
especially in that division.
You know, because Anderson feels like he has to fight people who are established.
You didn't think it would happen this quickly.
I mean...
Especially after not fighting a year.
I was in a rush.
I was in a rush in my career.
You know, I'm trying to...
I wanted to get to that belt as fast as possible.
I wanted to be a young champion.
I wanted to, you know, hold on to the bell as long as possible.
You know, I always looked at guys who had the belt
and they're around my age. I'm like, I gotta get there already. I got to, you know, GSP, I think
had the belt with like 26, 27 or so like that. And I'm like old are you? On 28. I'm going to be
29 for this fight and turn 29 in June 17th. Happy birthday. Yeah, thanks, buddy. You also mentioned
living in your parents basement. You don't live there anymore, right? Nope, I don't live there
anymore. We bought a house that got ruined by Hurricane Sandy, so we're doing just as good.
Are you still there though? Yeah, we're there. We're on the second floor and we're good.
Oh, you're back home? Yeah, we're back. No, no, not of my parents. At my house. Yeah.
How's the first floor?
First floor is still on the construction, but it's not that.
Your cousin was living on the second floor.
My cousin lives on the first floor.
So they're back in.
He got the crappy floor now?
He got the crappy floor.
But he was once living on the second floor.
No, no, no, I was living on the second floor.
Really?
The whole time?
The whole time.
So where is he living now?
He's living in the house.
But in the unfinished floor?
Yes.
Wow.
When's it going to be done?
It's just really just the kitchen has to be done.
It's pretty much done.
We have a bunch of stuff to do outside.
We've got to get our fences still ripped apart.
shutter the siding is all ruined and the like the whatever the thing that holds the leaves and the
drainage stuff yeah the gutters and the drainage things aren't even on a home and I know this stuff
yeah you're a smart guy um when do you expect it to all be finished a couple months it has this
been a nuisance has this been a nuisance to deal with this as you're preparing for the biggest fight of
your life not really no no no hasn't been stressful no I'm focused on one thing and uh that's it
I have ADD man I can't focus on too many things are you a
By the way, why do you have your...
Chris Wyman brought his passport.
He knows I'm Canadian and he thought this may be
an international show. Why do you have your passport here?
I lost my wallet on the train a couple...
Actually, like a month ago, and I still haven't got my license back.
And you lost your glasses this morning.
And I lost my glasses.
See, I'm very focused on Anderson Silva, so just so everybody knows.
Are you kidding me?
He thought he lost his glass.
Wow.
Hang on a second.
This is like our Oprah moment right there.
So Valante must have did this on.
I was hoping to do that a lot more.
These band's meant the world to me.
Why?
I just thought I lost them.
Why do they mean so much?
Because I have a big head.
They fit my face perfectly.
And he knows, like, I'd never let him borrow these.
And I had them next to me on the train.
I didn't put them on a bag.
And I got up, and I got off the train.
I'm like, oh, my God, bro.
I lost my glasses.
And I literally in love with these glasses.
And I'm so happy that now I got my glasses.
Oh, my God.
I was literally devastated.
Isn't it great?
You hit it well.
Those things are so big.
Like, even the...
I look at that part.
Get a zoom-in, M.A.
fighting. You're very concerned about your face that it's always too fat in pictures.
How do you feel about it now? Well, especially like in Brazil. No, when I, when I train, it's the first thing that gets slim. And when I'm when I'm not trained, it's the first thing to get fat. So, you know, people are kind of like, oh, he's chubby. But I'll still have a good, nice, nice hips.
We're very short on time here. You told me that you have to be out of here in a matter of moments.
It's 116. You got five minutes. Unbelievable. Where are you guys going after this? Why are you so stressed for time? You're going to Henzos, right? You go along with him?
Yeah, yeah.
Where he trains, too, man, yeah.
Dan O'Hare runs a class at 1.30s at Hensos, that's just ridiculous.
I mean, the room is, yeah, filled.
Do you have to be a certain level fighter to get in there?
No, you know what they do?
He kind of, like, separates the fighters from the rest of the class.
He'll have the fighters kind of up front.
And then when we do live goes, he kind of will pick the guys he wants going with the fighter.
So he'll line up all the best black belts, and they'll fill in on me.
Or other fighters, whatever he thinks I need.
at the time. But what are you now?
What am I? You're a purple belt, right?
I'm a purple belt, yeah.
When are you going to be black belt? Do you even train with a
with a ghee? No, I don't train with ghee.
I heard it was a funny story how you got the purple belt.
Yeah, it was a funny story.
Would you like to train?
You're just going to leave up. That's it.
You know, I was, it was right before I went to Abu Dhabi's.
I won the Abu Dhabi trials, and I was a blue belt.
Whatever, it did pretty good.
And I was never training ghee at that point.
I did Ghee for like three months and that was it.
And then, so I went to Dan Hurst class at Henzo Gracie Academy.
It made me like my second time there and I did really well.
I was, you know, submitting everybody pretty good.
And after the class, Dan Hur came out to me, he goes,
what belt are you?
And I'm like, I'm a blue belt.
He goes, he was like, just so you know, if you told me brown belt,
I'd promote you to black belt right now.
If you told me a purple belt, you go to brown, you know,
just because the way they do this in order,
I have to just bring you to a purple.
That's the way it goes.
Really?
He was like, that was, what I just saw it today was unbelievable.
And I'm like, thanks.
And then in front of everybody promoted me.
Just like that.
On the spot.
And then all the people I was going against were like, he was a bluebell.
It was made it a little weird.
But you're not even going to try to get it?
I mean, the thing is I, for a long time, I kind of just had black belts like guys from Long Island coming to Ray Longo's gym from all over the place.
And I just trained with them.
And so there was no teacher.
It was more like, you know, I was just learning from going live.
What do you have?
Maybe a white.
No, I never even put on a guy either.
In your life.
No.
Not once.
I did one Brazilian jihitsu tournament.
Pan Ams, I won the Blue Belts.
I'm Italian.
I can't.
Brazilian, I don't.
Brazilian, yeah.
With the ghee?
No, it was no ghee.
I did a Blue Belt division.
I won that.
You did?
So maybe I'm a Blue Belt, but I don't even not.
No, I'm not even that.
I'm a white belt.
Actually, you know what?
I'm sorry.
I forgot this.
Matt texted me before my last fight that he promoted me to a...
Just like that.
I don't know if I'm supposed to say that, Matt.
Sorry, but yeah.
It doesn't count really until he gets it to.
Well, he said, I'm a blue belt.
He's like, you consider yourself a blue belt, buddy.
I'm like, thanks.
And he's like, you know, Matt's the man.
It's interesting, you mentioned Matt.
He retired recently.
And what's also interesting is that both of, most people think that you guys are linked, right?
That you train together.
You're part of the same team, but you're actually not part of the same team.
No.
Belmore?
Yeah.
Longo.
Well, he's, I still could sit on my teammate.
You mind putting your phone, I mean, unbelievable.
And last week, it came out.
that Costa Filipu left your team
and moved to his team.
That was a devastating event.
And why do you say it like that?
What are you trying to do?
Start it up.
But here's the thing.
Here's the thing.
In the comments, I'd even insinuate this,
but in the comments,
everyone thought it's because of you.
No, I don't think it has anything to do with me.
You don't blame him?
I do.
Oh, you do blame me.
Let's put on him.
What's the real story?
Kostis is his new teammate,
so I want to know.
Why did he leave the team?
The plan on the way in here
was Chris goes, if anything like that,
if any of these questions get ass,
he's going to put it on me.
And I'm just like, no, don't do that.
And I beg them.
What's the real story?
What's the real story?
I blame Chris, man.
I don't know.
It's a hard guy to deal with, man.
I've been friends with him a long time,
so it takes them getting used to.
So you think that's the reason he left?
He just came into this country,
and he's like,
first guy he meets Chris Wyman.
So he really left because of you?
A lot to deal with.
Honestly.
No.
Why did you say that was a big loss
in a sort of sarcastic way?
No, I was just kidding.
I was going to be interested.
I just busting bulls
starting drama
No he...
Is there beef there?
No, no, no beef at all.
No, I think he wanted
a little change
and some different coaching
and different attention
and I don't know,
he went to Belmar Cape Boston.
So would you fight him now?
I mean, if it was for drastic things,
we're still probably gonna be training together.
You are?
Yeah, I mean, I train with Volantile.
So it's kind of an incestuous relationship,
this Long Island fight scene,
you guys kind of all go together.
What happened is this?
They used to be a lot of drama
between the teams,
or they would never train together.
Yeah, I think Baroni Ford,
Pigs out.
Yeah, so there was a lot of drama
between Belmont kickboxing
and Ray Longos and Matt Saras.
And then when he got into it,
he ended up going to Belmont kickboxing
because his high school wrestling coach went there.
And I went to Ray Longos because it was
just because I started at Sarah Jiu-Jitsu
before he even did that.
So then me and him were always friends through college.
So we were like, we just started,
hey, why don't you come over here for this?
And, you know, they couldn't say none of us.
Right.
So everybody was good.
Look at you guys.
But there's no truth to the
rumor that Costa left because of you because he wants to fight you.
Oh, no, nothing's good.
Come on.
No.
Chris is good, man.
I don't think anyone would ever want to fight him unless they had to.
How big of a part of your camp now is Matt Sarah?
Well, he's sick.
He got sick.
He won't even be there in Vegas, right?
We're still trying to, I'm still waiting to hear back.
He told me he was on my show recently.
He said he's probably not going to be able to fly.
Yeah, we're going to, I mean, yeah, I don't know.
I know Ray just spoke to him a couple days ago, and he said,
me another week to find out if I definitely can't go and then he'll let me know then I've got to
figure out different things but you know it's going to suck not having him there you know he's been a
part of my every one of my fights from the beginning so last week I called you and there was a
rumor reported by Brazilian media that Anderson Silva hurt his rib and he was out of the fight
yeah you ruined my whole day so even my manager was mad at you really why would he call you to
tell you to say that well I'm not calling to tell you just as a buddy don't you know hang on
I can confirm this.
Hang on.
Let's get this training.
Hang on.
Hang on.
Here we go.
It's tampered down.
Why would he call you?
Yes.
Hang on.
Why would you?
Hang on.
It's a rumor.
Yeah.
I'm trying to confirm the rumor if it's true or not.
I'm training for innocence of a...
Yes.
I'm finding the graceful whole time.
I'm trying to...
What if you were wasting your time?
He went and had like an hour long feast at McDonald's after.
No, no, no.
When you called me, I was like, I was with my sponsor from Bad Boy and a good guy.
And we're eating and you were like, I'm like, are you freaking joking me right now?
You're like, I really says that.
He has broken ribs.
He's at the doctor.
I'm like, bro, don't tell me this.
Don't tell me this.
And I'm freaking out.
I'm like, I need to go home and take a nap.
I need to, like, exit the world for a little bit.
Honestly, I need to just go home and take a nap
because I'm going to start freaking out.
It was just too much overloaded.
And I was freaking out.
And then we ended up finding it wasn't true.
It's kind of like when you thought you lost your glasses,
and then you got them back.
Honestly, it was scarier than that.
Really?
Worse than the glasses.
It was worse than the glasses.
There's a part of you think,
because didn't you allude to this a couple weeks ago that you think
the fight is not actually going to happen.
Like until you're actually in the cage
staring the guy in the face,
you don't think this is going to happen.
There's just, yeah, there's something about,
there's something that scares me with that.
Why?
Is there something in your gut
that's telling you this is not for real?
Yeah, I mean, well, the thing is,
it's been a long road, you know,
after I fought Muno's, I called him out
and there was like, you know,
we were supposed to fight
and then ended up not happening a couple times.
So then I still have that, I think, that mindset.
But I mean, I'm training for the fight.
I believe it's going to happen.
But there's something inside of me a little bit.
It's like, I just really
want this fight.
Do you believe you're injured?
No, no, no.
I just hope that I get inside.
I just want to be in that cage.
You just want to get to July 6th.
I just want to get to those way ins.
I want to look at him.
I want to see him physically there.
I'm going to be a happy man.
Do you think he's going to try to find a way out?
No.
Can you stop?
All right, all those people on the internet that think that Ariel Huanah instigates.
Take that quote and then think about it.
Why?
And then he's right.
I mean, stop.
I told you.
I'm not doing that.
Injured.
You do a great job.
Injure.
You do a great job.
you made, what do you think of his impression of,
awesome.
I think you should do another one.
Do another one.
Do Anderson with injured risk.
Let's replay it.
No, no, no, no.
You're right here.
Why do we have to replay?
I'm not doing it.
What kind of feedback did you get?
I'm sure people hated that.
They really don't like you the people, but you know, it's a good not liking.
It's a good not liking.
It's better to be disliked than feel as different.
I have some Brazilian fans.
There's a Twitter.
There's a Twitter.
There's a Twitter.
It's like a hundred followers.
Can we get some more followers in the Brazilian?
Family and Fan Club?
What's it like Team Wybin, B.R.
I think, yeah.
Please follow them.
But you get the impression
that more people dislike you
or like you right now?
It depends on the day.
I mean,
right now.
When you insult him like that,
when you do the impersonation,
and that was totally his idea, by the way.
Oh, yeah.
It's almost like they feel like
you're disrespecting him.
Yeah, no, I know.
That was no,
I was just having fun.
Right.
You kind of was catching me off guard.
I was just going to have fun with it.
I didn't want to stand there and be like,
no.
Got over a hundred thousand views.
I just got off doing the,
the Q&A, you know, I was
answering any question that they asked me.
So I got off and Aero wanted to ask me
questions and I had to answer every question he gave me
and so I had to do it. But I'm not going to lie.
When I saw, I got a million text message
out of nowhere on a Tuesday night. I'm like, what the heck's going on?
I mean, tweets. And I'm looking.
You weren't watching UFC tonight? I wasn't looking.
I wasn't watching, but I had it recorded.
Okay. So then I'm like, what the heck? This is
a really good or really bad. So I'm checking
out and I realize the UFC on tonight
day, I'm like, oh, this has got to be bad because I forgot
I even did that integrate with you.
Right.
So I turn it on.
I'm telling my wife, I'm like, oh, we got to watch this.
And the preview of it was just me going like this.
I'm like, my wife's like, what did you do?
And I'm like, he called me off guard.
I'm like, this is going to be bad.
It was good.
And they had the impersonation of me doing his voice.
I'm just like, oh, God.
John, I'm noticing a different hairstyle now.
He used to have a bit of the fade.
Has he changed?
No, this is considered a low fade with a tape up.
Yeah.
Low fade tape up.
I try to give him some what's in.
What do you do this for him?
I gave him the,
start doing the comb over there?
Really?
Yeah.
What do you mean?
You actually comb it for him?
Oh, yeah, I used my hand.
I don't use your combing.
Really? Not today, though.
Today actually...
Yeah, I wasn't with him this morning.
I don't know what happened.
You should sit him on the sink, like, before we go out.
I don't know what happened to my hair probably, but today I had to use, like, my wife's
hair spray.
So I just kind of did my hair and then sprayed it.
But it's a little more Hollywood.
My point is, has you changed?
Hollywood, huh?
Because for me, like, you know, before, you know, before, you know, I'd be able to reach him
to confirm a story, this and that.
Has he changed leading up to the fight?
No, you can see, man.
He's kind of pretty, you know, funny guy, fun to be around.
But, you know, when he gets close to a fight,
he's definitely a pain to be around.
Do you think he'll change if he wins?
We already got in a big fight with each other.
Really?
What was it about?
What was it about?
Just nothing.
No, no, we're not going to it.
Come on.
We can go into it.
Go into it.
What happened?
He doesn't like that I got a girlfriend now.
Oh!
That's not what it is.
He's taken away.
It's taken time away from him.
Really?
No.
No.
So then I go spend time with her in Jersey.
he's like,
dude,
you're not here
to train with him.
You're married.
It's messed up
or something like that.
But like if I miss a day,
like...
He gave you the guilt trip.
Yeah.
And I haven't seen it since.
My mouth was broke up actually.
Get out of here.
No.
By the way,
did you start dating this girl
pre or post-VFC debut?
I'm worried.
Like a couple years ago.
That's a great way.
See, this is what...
She's going to listen to this probably.
I'm worried.
At first of all,
I love his girl from the death.
So not one bad word about that.
However,
however, he decided right before his fight,
this is a big fight.
UFC debut
two days before he decides to rekind the relationship with the girl
That's stupid
You too?
If it happened just wait the next day
One thing has nothing to do with the other
So now, I don't know where
He's focused on a girl
I'm just like bro come on man
You was doing so good through the whole camera
Maybe we shouldn't talk about it's not anything
I just didn't want anything to like kind of you know
mess up his view of this fighting
He thought it was good to take his mind off the fight
You know it was just good
But two days before
Just start anything new
I didn't think it was a good idea.
Do you think it affected his performance, honestly now?
I don't know.
You don't want to go there.
It wasn't a good performance, so it could have been.
You know what is?
I know how good he could be, and so it pissed me off that he didn't perform well, but that happens.
You know, you're just going to have some fights where he's...
And now the girl is dividing your training camp.
He's taking away time from the biggest fight of your life.
He had some injury.
You know, his gym was all messed up, so he was taking some time off anyway.
Time off.
And I use him as my main trainer partner.
In the Hampton.
time off. It's good to be needed, though. I like the feeling of being needed.
But, you know, we do, it's something that we've had since we've been starting, as you can see, way back when in Strike Force days, that when we have camps and stuff like that, we need each other to be on top of our games and train each other, man.
Really?
You want to go through? You should bring that up, man. I'm at last camp. It's pretty awesome.
This guy's got some serious. You should talk about that.
All right, so I come off shoulder surgery.
No, no, no, I'm not talking about that.
No, but we'll go into the whole thing.
But I'll start off with what I'm going through.
So I go off shoulder surgery.
I get announced I am fighting against him.
But my Dodgers are saying, you don't really, you know, you don't want to train too early yet.
But he's getting ready for a fight, a salpaw.
And I don't usually go south pole, but I'm like, you know, for you.
And even though I'm not supposed to be sparring yet, I'm going to start sparring with you.
So I start sparring with them three or five minute rounds.
And I'm pushing the pace.
I'm doing everything I can.
One day I come in, I'm like, this is like the second time we're sparring.
And I'm just coming off shoulder surgery.
Having four hundred a year.
And I'm like, but my stomach's like messed up.
I don't know what's going on.
There's something going on.
This is an ongoing problem.
I couldn't get, all right.
You know what?
I got stomach issues.
I guess.
Maybe.
I never went to a doctor before.
But I couldn't get off the toilet.
I couldn't get off the toilet before Sparring.
I'm like, bro, I'm going to do my best, but I'm not going to lie.
I might have to run to the bathroom.
He's like, nah, you'd be good.
Shut up.
Stop being in it.
Like, when you talk like that before Sparn, you almost give me,
it sounds like you're giving yourself an excuse to losing Sparring.
So he didn't want to hear that crap.
Like, come on.
So I'm like, no, all right, whatever.
So we go into Sparring.
I crap myself in Sparring.
Like, first 15 seconds
I go to like
Throw a punch or cross
You actually crapped yourself?
Crap myself
And I'm just like
Was it wet?
He goes, bro, go to the bed
I'm like no
We gotta continue
What?
We got to continue.
We got to continue.
We went to-
Three, five minute rounds
Of me would
No way
Full crap on my fan
He like took me down once
I was like
Oh,
I got
I started
I mouthed him
And I'm like putting it
Did it fall through?
No I have really tight tights on
Oh my god
Like a diaper
Yeah it's sitting there like a diaper
Was it wet or was it?
But it
My whole point is this.
This is the type of stuff I do for this guy.
I cramp myself to continue.
And it's not, and I can't.
I'd grab myself.
I would.
Hang on, about this.
I didn't just crap myself once.
I continue to crap myself.
Every time I exerted any energy, I crap myself.
If he hit you with like a body shot.
Oh, bro.
It wasn't even that.
Anytime I was like, I'm thinking about, if I was like, I'm about to hit his body,
I'm like, oh shit.
And then he's punching me.
And this didn't bother you?
Or did you not know?
And he has a very sensitive nose, too.
Oh, my God.
And what did the coaches say?
They were just crazy.
Did you get it on the canvas?
No, it was all about John Volante.
Wow.
It was all about getting through that Spartan to do the best I can for.
That's your friend.
And so now you understand when I'm fighting against him.
You see me before.
I'm picking up nails.
For his house, yeah, that's right.
And he's hanging out with you the whole time.
That's true.
He was.
Herniquet said that he found out our home money was coming with the camera.
He was, oh.
You can't go back to use the same joke twice.
You want me come back.
I'm like, bro, you weren't here for.
freaking week. What do you mean?
No gas in my car. I have to drive a half hour, and I'm still...
So he got... He did look good on camera.
It did look good. Yeah, you had the cameo.
That was good, PR.
You're wearing a sweatpants.
You know, we're short on time here. We're kind of up against the clock.
It's unfortunate.
I got to go.
But wait, I want to ask you, what do you think of Anderson skipping out the media day?
I don't know.
Say something mean, he got fined, and, I mean, that sucks for him.
Was it fair to find him?
Do you think he doesn't have to do it?
He's Anderson Silva, for God's sakes.
He sells to fight himself.
It's definitely fair.
You know, it's part of his job is the media,
especially something that they set up.
They probably spent a lot of money.
Have you had to do more media than him leading up to this fight?
Oh, yeah, I'm sure.
Is that fair?
It doesn't.
Listen, I'm the challenger,
and this guy's been doing this for,
I don't know how long you could tell me.
He's 11 title defenses or something like that?
I don't know.
It's crazy.
Whatever.
So he's done a lot of media in his time,
so he's probably a little bit more sick of it than I am.
So I have no problem, you know, picking up the tab.
Did they give you some of the money?
Sometimes that happens when someone misses Wade,
they give you some.
No, they didn't give me any of that.
Nothing.
I don't mind.
Do you think you deserve it?
UFC takes care of me.
I'm happy.
They do?
Yeah.
They shoot you well.
Lorenzo's jet?
Lorenzo's jet.
I'm chilling on a jet.
That's once in a lifetime bit.
That thing, that was amazing.
Hollywood.
That's when you started to change your hairstyle.
Lorenzo actually, he was like, listen, kid.
You're a great fighter.
I think you have a possibility to be a champion, but your hairstyle's got to go.
This is how you're going to do it.
Are you the kind of guy who visualizes fights?
Oh, yeah.
You lay in bed at night.
Do you think about it?
All day long.
How's it ending?
No, I just visualize it going every possible, you know.
There's no specific way that keeps coming up.
I see it.
No, I just see it a million different way.
I prepare myself mentally to, you know, visualize terrible things happening and fighting through it.
Terrible things.
Persevering, yeah.
Front kicking me in my face.
Right, right.
Down my belt for it, but I get my wits back fast.
And then I'm right back up, and then he kicks me again.
I'm down again.
Everyone's like, ooh, this kid sucks.
And then next day I know it, I went on top and ground the pound on him and went in and whatever else.
And you said you'll give him an immediate remit.
match MSG, that doesn't look like it's going to happen.
Is the immediate rematch still in play just in another place?
Yeah, no, I'm not being cocky with that either.
I'm just saying the guy has, what, 11 title defenses?
If I do beat him, I'm sure the UFC would want to give him rematch, he's not going to have to start.
But even though it's not MSG, you'll still give it to him.
The UFC will give it to him.
Well, it's up to you.
You're the king.
It's not up to me.
You're the king.
You call the shots.
No, it would be an honor to fire him twice.
And you'll ask for a new contract after that, too, right?
Whatever the UFC wants to do.
This guy is a war.
He did change.
Okay, okay, we got to go.
It's 135.
I told you 125, so 10 minutes over.
John Danaher asked me to be there
specifically on time today
because there's UFC cameras there.
Tell me you spoke to me.
I probably want to be organized.
And then I told him that UFC made me do this show.
That's good.
I'll tell you one thing.
The biggest lie of this whole day was that the UFC.
Easy, pal.
No one.
No one's the UFC does not want you on this show.
I'll tell you that.
These are where the hard questions are being asked.
They don't want you here.
I'm kidding.
This wasn't that bad, right?
Not bad.
You know how hard I had to get to get?
The only way I got you here was because he was coming.
Out of muscle.
All right.
There he is.
Chris Wyman, everyone.
He is fighting Anderson Silva July 6th on pay-per-view.
It is UFC 162.
It is the main event.
Will he finally, will someone finally dethrone the champion?
Will it be this man?
This man right here.
The man we introduced to you a few years back.
Who would have thunk it?
John Valante,
are we seeing you back?
Hopefully around September.
September.
I'm with a little injuries right now, but I'm starting to get myself going again.
And it will be in the UFC, right?
You're getting another shot.
Yep.
You'll do better this time.
Damn right.
No I pox.
No girlfriends.
No, girl, whoa.
I'm just kidding.
Whoa.
There they are.
I don't know what he's saying right now.
Twitter.com slash Chris Wyman UFC.
Tell him how much you dislike him and that he does not deserve to fight Anderson.
And there we've got Twitter.com slash GP Valante.
In a minute, we'll be back with round three of the Rick's Picks Invitational.
We're going to update that and tell you what's going on with UFC on Fuel TV 10 for now.
Let us hear from Brendan Shob and Cyborg-Abreu.
They're competing in that BJJ match on Sunday at MetaMorris.
This is a little countdown-like show that they put together.
It's a great little preview for our interview coming up at 2 o'clock.
You are watching The Mix Martial Arts Hour on MMAFighting.com.
Back on the mixed martial arts.
How about that deep breath I just took?
I just had to go to the little boys' room after that.
that story from Chris Wyman and John Volante before we started here.
So I'm a little out of breath, but here we are back on the Mixed Martial Arts Hour.
It is approximately 1.45 p.m. Eastern time at around 2 o'clock.
We'll be joined by Brendan Shaw around 220.
Mayhem Miller will be in studio.
How about that?
Three in studio guests on today's show.
We'll take your questions and comments a little later on.
We've got a good prize for you.
As far as the rumors regarding Chale Sanninin fighting Maricio Shogunha at UFC 161,
stepping in for the injured Antonio Hoseiorea no Gera.
Not quite 100% just yet.
We will monitor and keep you posted as the show rolls along.
That event is in a little less than two weeks.
This weekend, though, it's UFC on Fuel TV 10.
It's in Brazil.
It's Fabrice Ovidum.
Finally, returning to action.
Remember Fabrice O'Radoom, the guy who beat Mike Ressau in Brazil last June?
He hasn't fought since then.
He was a coach on Tuft Brazil, and he is fighting Verdum.
excuse me, Nogera on Saturday,
and it's a big fight in the heavyweight division,
and it also represents round three of the Rick's Picks Invitational.
Mr. Rick, are you there?
I'm here.
You've been busy this weekend doing some workout stuff,
but we'll get to that in a second.
Let us first talk about what is transpiring on Saturday.
First, let's update.
There are four left.
Correct.
Who are the four competitors?
It's myself.
I'm going up against Lee MMA only.
who was an underdog
and then really had a great week,
the best week, in fact, out of everybody.
And now he's facing me in the next round.
And on the other side of the bracket,
as you can see right here,
is Wanna Bet UFC,
who is the leader in the clubhouse right now.
He's got $331.62 going up against Big Marley 3.
So the seeding on that is I'm a one seed.
Oh, yeah.
Lee MMA is a 6.
Give us the amounts you're playing with.
with? I've got 21192 left. Okay. Lee MMA has 26004, so I'm slightly behind going into the week.
Nice plug for severe mMA.com right over there. Yes, go ahead. So we've got M, I'm sorry, want to bet UFC,
who is also another one seat on the opposite side of the bracket with the most money, 331.62,
going up against 3C, Big Marley 3 with 267.54. Now, is Lee still talking?
smack?
Here's the thing.
Lee's a very
respectable
good guy,
so I've got nothing
bad to say about it.
I was giving him a
hard time on us.
No,
I was giving him a hard time
last week just to
like kind of hype it up
but it's hard to maintain
that and really I just like
the guy so
I can't say good luck
because I'm going to win
and I don't want him
to have good luck.
But I do
think that he's a good guy.
Nothing personal against them.
The finals will be
UFC 161.
This is a chance
to make it to the finals.
Last week when we sort of touched on this card,
we,
actually there weren't that,
I think there were maybe two lines out.
I think there were only two, yeah, at that time.
Now there are five,
according to best fight odds.
But forget about all that.
I want you to preview the finals
of Tough Brazil 2 for me.
Break it down for us.
The finals of Tough Brazil 2.
Now, no, I have no clue.
I've never watched Tough Brazil.
Don't plan on it.
Really?
No.
Shouldn't you do that?
I mean, what if you have to be?
bet on that fight. Are you just not going to touch it?
No, well, I'm going to look retroactively, but I'm not, oh, you mean the fight on that card?
Yeah.
Oh, no clue.
Yet.
But I am going to look into it.
And I know Lee is looking into it as well.
He tweeted that he, you know, was going through the backlog to watch the fights, yeah.
Oh, really?
Now, I haven't done that yet, but it will happen.
Do you have time to do that?
Of course.
Just the fights.
I mean, I don't care about house drama and coaches, challenges, and all that other nonsense.
Leo Santos versus William Macario.
Yep. Couldn't tell you the first thing about him.
I know Leo is a good jiu-tzu guy, but that's pretty much it.
Okay, so what are we looking at?
Obviously, the big fight on the card is the main event, Verdume versus Nogara.
Who are you favorite?
Let's give out the odds.
What are you looking at?
The favorite is Verdum minus 300.
Big Nog is plus 250.
He's the underdog.
I really like Verdum in this fight.
I don't know how I feel about this line yet, but I really like Verdum in this fight.
I don't think that Big Nog has enough on the feet anymore.
I mean, he's obviously a decent technical boxer, but I don't think that...
Here's the thing.
Verduem looked in his loss to Overeem.
He looked good enough, in my opinion, to be a top five heavyweight.
If he hadn't done the whole pulling guard thing, he could have won that fight.
Easily.
He was beating him on the feet.
I agree.
It was very...
It was kind of a coming out party in a weird way for Verdeo.
Because ever since he got into the UFC again, he's been fantastic.
Remember that fight against Roy Nelson?
Yeah.
It was just an odd fight.
but I came away with the feeling that Verdum is one of those guys that can be on the cusp of a title shot.
So I think that Big Nag doesn't really have enough on the feet to really scare Verduem.
And on the ground, obviously Big Nag is great, but I think Verdoom is one of those all-time great jujitsu-only players.
Like, you know, not MMA grappling, not wrestling, anything like that.
But in terms of pure jujitsu, Verdum is one of the all-time greats.
So I think that he has advantages in both areas standing and grappling.
And there's ways for Big Nag to win this.
If he makes it dirty, gets him up against the cage a little close quarters boxing,
like he did against, I believe it was Brendan Schaub in Brazil,
where he put him up against the cage and he threw a nice punch when Shab was expecting a takedown.
If he does something like that, it's very possible that he could beat Redoom,
but at this point I really like Verdom.
And I don't think minus 300 is an unreasonable line, but it's not a great line either.
And remember, they fought back in 2006 many, many, many, many,
moons ago, especially for Verdum.
You know, and Noguerra's a lot older now.
Verduim's a lot better now.
Well, I'd say that the, the, the, how much Verdum has progressed is much more of a
factor than Big Gnod getting older or anything like that.
And Bignog is one of those guys that you can't quite count out, you know, especially
in Brazil.
It just seems like he rises to the occasion.
Everybody wants to fade him, but he's, you know, looked really good lately.
But are you really going to bet on that fight with a minus 300?
What's the, well, there might be, there might be prop bets to see.
Let's take a look.
Let's see if there's any prop bets that are open right now that I could talk about.
That's the problem.
I feel like most people are favoring Verduem.
I just don't know.
Fight doesn't go to decision at minus 285.
That seems reasonable.
I don't think this one's going to go to distance.
Oh, it's going to do something like that.
Okay.
Yeah, there's probably prop bets that you could get in there.
But I won't talk about those because I don't want to, you know, I don't want to put my whole hand out there.
All right.
So for now, okay.
We're kind of know where you're leaning towards.
For sure.
But you're not going to, you're not going to.
You're not going to go straight up Verduem.
You're going to kind of try to play around with it.
Probably not.
You know what?
I love this Cavalcante versus Tiago Silvo fight.
One of the first fights that I can remember,
both guys coming off of suspension.
Tiago Silva was suspended for marijuana usage
when he fought or after the fight in Macau back in November.
And we haven't seen Fezhou since he submitted Mike Kyle
in Strike Force last May.
He was suspended for a year by the California State Athletic Commission.
Claims he never took steroids.
They popped him for that.
And now here they are back.
Kind of feels like the loser goes, even though they're, you know, they're solid 205ers, but off suspensions.
I like this fight. This is a fun fight.
I don't necessarily agree.
I don't really see what Tiago Silva is bringing to the table at this point.
He hasn't looked great lately.
I know he's had back surgery and suspensions and all these things.
He hasn't been that impressive lately.
Whereas Fajiao, his last fight was a no contest, but he's been on a decent little.
streak. He looked pretty good.
So I highly
favor Fajiao coming into this one.
I think he's going to at some point
land a devastating knockout punch
and I think he's going to be able to finish
Tiago Silva. Really? I do.
You're high on Fajio? I think he
I mean, he beat Dan Henderson,
although that was one of those
Fador Henderson type fights where
it looked like at any point one of those guys
could have gone down. But I think
that he's a
favorite, deservedly so. And I
I think minus 210 isn't unreasonable.
I'm just not,
Tiago Sova doesn't do it for me anymore.
By the way, I was just,
Fajon didn't beat Dan Henderson,
lost to Dan Henderson.
Is that what happened?
Oh, that's right.
Now what do you got to say about your boy?
I had it reversed.
The one with Fajar, he...
Yes, Fajou beat King Moe.
That's right, that's right.
And then Henderson got the title from him.
Yep, yep.
Are you a little banged up from UFC fit?
Are you a little rusty?
No, I had a nice meal.
You did.
We'll talk about UFC
a little later.
Okay, cool.
So that's my feeling on the fight.
So despite the fact
that Fajah actually lost
to Henderson, you're still picking him.
Well, as I was saying about that fight,
it wasn't so much who won.
I was illustrating the point that
he has the power
to knock somebody out at any time.
People commenting, by the way,
that you're looking slimmer already.
Cool.
How long have you been doing it for?
Just one day?
Really?
Mm-hmm.
What about the diet?
Two days.
I keep teasing that we're going to talk about
later,
I can't help myself.
Two days because today I'm also sticking to the diet.
But the workouts coming later.
Do you feel weak mentally?
No.
No?
Feel great.
Feel sharp.
You seem a little emaciated.
Amaciated?
Yeah.
I don't think that was ever, has it ever been said about me.
Scale of one to ten, how hard is it?
What part specifically?
Like staying away from the food or the workouts?
The workout?
The workout?
Seven?
Really?
I mean, I, you know, I'm not like.
You're saying you're not impressed?
No.
Well, first of all, it was the first workout.
Okay.
Is that kind of an easy, get your feet wet type of thing?
Yeah, I think it was like an introduction.
And secondly, it's not like I'm some guy who's never, you know, gotten off his couch before.
Mike Dolce seemed to have that opinion of you.
Well, I think somebody on this end of the transaction reported that representation of me.
So you popped it in and you did it.
Do we have any, like, video proof?
How do I know you actually did this?
You're going to have to take my word for it.
Really?
I see results.
I mean...
You took a picture of yourself?
I did, yeah.
Really?
I'm taking a picture every day, and I'm going to make it into like a, you know, a, what's it
called, time lapse.
Oh, that's cool.
I like that.
At the end.
Did you take the first picture, like one of those, the before picture always seems
a little schlobby, you know what I mean?
Like their posture is bad.
They put their stomach out.
Is that what you did?
I was actually smiling, but, you know.
You did the posture thing.
You have to.
Yeah, we'll see.
We'll see when it comes out.
All right.
So let's talk quickly about Eric Silva versus Jason High.
I think this is a great fight.
Oh, yeah.
Eric Silva, everybody, you know, is really high on him.
Even losing to John Fitch.
No pun intended.
Go ahead.
Well, well.
Even losing to John Fitch, his stock kind of went up just because he was able to escape Fitch's control at certain points and make it an interesting fight.
So I think my gut reaction is that Jason High is going to be able to use his wrestling and
top control to hold Silva down.
And I feel like he's just a more, you know, well-rounded, more well-accomplished mixed
martial artists at this point.
But I would not be surprised if Silva was able to in some kind of scramble or just, you
know, catch high at a certain point.
High is the underdog at plus 325.
Silva is minus 400, the favorite.
So I think that it's worth a bet on high here for sure.
Even if I'm not picking him outright, I think that at those odds,
the money is on high.
But in this game, if you feel that way,
is it just smart to stay away?
No, because, for example,
I thought that George Rup was not very, very likely
to finish Brian Bowles,
but last week it ended up paying off in a big way.
Right. So for this type of tournament,
since you have money to play with,
you got to put it all on the line,
and sometimes, you know,
you want to hit one that somebody didn't see coming.
I like this fight better than the Hathaway fight.
That was the original fight.
I like that high is getting another shot.
Look good in Strike Force, obviously, not fighting the kind of competition that he's going to be fighting in the UFC.
But, you know, this American in Brazil phenomenon is something to really pay attention to, right?
The Americans do not do well over in Brazil, especially when fighting Brazilians.
Yeah.
You got to think about that, right?
Brazilians are very good in Brazil.
Yeah.
And the Americans seem to be less good for some reason, except for John Fitch, who beat up Eric Silva, a wrestler similar.
style,
probably not as good as
Jason High
is not as good as him,
but you've got to look
at that fight, right?
Yeah, I think
that that's a similar
model to what we're
going to see,
but I think
high is a little less
active in terms of
going for the finish,
although, you know,
that's the idea of
what John Fitch.
People have said that.
But I've actually
always disagreed with that.
I feel like Fitch
chases submissions
tries to land a lot
of punches.
He's just not very
effective is the thing.
People defend them
pretty easily.
but we'll see and as I said
as the underdog
I think the play is on high here for sure
Jason High coming off a 26 second submission of Nate Moore
last July we haven't seen him in a while
that was his last fight in Strike Force
there was some talk of him fighting for the Strike Force
welterweight belt of course then the promotion was absorbed
into the UFC so he's getting another shot
he only got one shot in the UFC way back when
lost to Charlie Brennam and now here he is getting
a second shot against a very very tough guy in
in Eric Silva is there any other fight on the card
as it stands right now that you're interested in.
Let's save the rest of the card.
Okay.
I'm high on Honi Jason.
You know Honey Jason, the guy who comes out in the mask?
Yes.
From Tough Brazil?
Him I do know because he's had a U.S.E fight.
I've seen him.
I like him.
I think he's solid.
I think he's the real deal.
Yeah.
But I don't know enough about Wilkinson yet to analyze that line just yet.
Just yet.
That's fair.
The other main card fights, we mentioned Tough Brazil, too.
there's Daniel Saraphean versus Eddie Mendez
and as I mentioned Jason
as they call him his nickname versus Mike Wilkinson.
Okay, so that's it.
So get the picks in an hour after way-ins.
That's Friday.
And the winner,
or the winners, I should say,
going to the finals.
And the finals, UFC 161,
the decimated UFC 161 card.
I like how people are saying
Winnipeg is cursed.
Western Canada is cursed.
What is?
is the UFC going to do to repay? First off, think about this. The UFC puts on 30 or so events a
year, right? And every single one of those events is not in the same city slash country. So the
fact that they're going, that you're getting a UFC, you're getting high level MMA in your
backyard. And let's call it like we see it, honestly. Of the candidates to drop off, at the top,
at least.
Burrell's not a big draw.
I mean, people were kind of
viewing Henderson versus...
I'm not saying, I mean, it sucks that they're out.
But to cry that the UFC deserves
to put some, you know,
super duper main event in place now,
you're getting Henderson,
you're getting Rashad Evans.
And look, I'm not going to say
this is as stacked as 160, 162, etc.,
etc.
But as far as what the card was
and you were apparently happy with it,
Brown, not the biggest draw.
You're losing Wyneland.
That's unfortunate.
You're losing Little Nog,
who's not the biggest draw either.
The fight, maybe the rematch was a draw,
but you may still get Shogun.
You may even get Chale.
And now the problem is if you don't get chale,
it's going to be even a bigger blow
because obviously that would make a lot of people excited.
But you got Roy Nelson, who wasn't there before.
You got Henderson versus Rashad Evans,
which is a fun main event.
So I just...
The complaint...
I get it. It sucks, but...
Sell your tickets.
You know, I get people complaining
like the UFC is going to do some super...
The fight's...
less than two weeks. Injuries, they happen. What are you going to do? Now, we mentioned UFC on Fuel TV 10.
That's on Saturday. On Sunday, there's a very interesting combat sports event. It's MetaMoros, too.
We had Halle Gracie, who's the founder of this promotion, which I think is doing great work.
You saw The Countdown Show. We just played a clip of that for the Shab, Cyborg-Abru-Raeu match,
and they're taking elements of boxing MMA. They're putting together cards, these sort of superfights,
putting them on eye pay-per-view,
and it's getting a lot of buzz,
a lot of superstars,
a lot of celebrities going to be there,
Snoop Dog's going to be there,
Ed O'Neill of Married with Children
and now Modern Family Fame,
he's going to be the color commentator.
Hennor Gracie is going to be the play-by-play man.
It's getting buzzed.
It's Sunday night and one of the big matchups,
and the matchup that is really getting MMA fans,
I think, if you're just an MMA guy
and you're not that much of a BJJ guy,
you're going to watch this card for one reason.
you want to see how Brendan Schaub does in a BJJ match.
That's my opinion.
And that's why we have Brendan Chob on the show right now.
Brendan, how are you?
I'm doing great, man.
Thanks for me on, brother.
I appreciate you coming on.
I know it's a very busy day for you, so we'll make it relatively quick.
Why are you doing this?
What is there to gain for Brendan Chob, a heavy hitting, popular UFC heavyweight?
You have a fight coming up in July.
Why the heck are you doing this?
Why the hell are you doing this?
You know, for me, it's just a great opportunity.
opportunity. It's kind of like the pro ball or the Olympics of Jiu-Jitsu. It's, you know, it's the 12 top
jih Tjitsu practitioners in the world. And when they asked me to do it, man, I was honored. And I was
at the first one. It's such a cool, you know, different kind of event that I've never been to. So
for me, it's just competing at Jiu-Jitsu at the highest level. And J-Jitsu is my passion. You know,
everyone thinks I'm just a pure striker, but J-J-J-Tis-T is really my passion. And it's kind of a way to give
back to J-J-J-Soo and bring different eyeballs to it. So I didn't think Dana would let me do it.
I think there's a shot when I got the invitation.
I just, you know, I was like, man, I'm honored, but there's no way the U.S.C.
lets me do this.
And I said, but don't count me out yet.
Let me talk to U.S.C. see what happens, man.
You know, who knows?
You never know.
And, you know, talk to Damies.
You know what?
Go ahead, do it.
Just don't get hurt.
So that's the plan.
And here we are now.
Is this part of your way of showing people that you're much?
Because when you think of Brendan Schaub, even though your last fight, there was a lot of groundwork involved,
they think of you as a, you know, heavy hitting heavyweight.
Are you trying to tell people that you're much more than that?
And by doing this, it's your message to them?
Well, you know, it's not really a message.
And, you know, for me, I pride myself on being well-rounded.
You know, I think that's some of the best wrestling and jiu-jitsu at the heavyweight division
and striking to go along with it.
And, man, I never, I don't put these labels on myself.
I think it's more of, you know, the public or, you know, maybe other people would give me these labels.
You know, I just pride myself in being well-rounded.
and, you know, I train hard and everything.
Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling, striking.
So for me, man, I'm a fighter.
I love to compete, especially at the highest level.
Obviously, you know, fighting the UFC is my passion.
But to be able to do something like MetaMorce is just,
it's a cool experience.
I look back to my career, and this can be one of the highlights for me.
When this was announced, you didn't have the fight against Mitrione
that's taking place July 27th announced yet.
If you would have had that fight already, would you still take this?
I know it's a month and a half away,
but does this change anything that you would have been to be?
doing if you just had the fight coming up July 27th?
Like, if they gave me a call right now and said, hey, we need you in Vegas in two hours
to fight, Mitriona, I can make it.
I'm in that good a shape right now.
This is the best shape I've ever been in.
I'm 237 pounds.
I have to make 235 pounds by Sunday.
So, you know, I've never really been this light, and it's crazy, you know, just as far as my speed,
my quickness and endurance.
So I'm excited about it.
But as far as, man, would I do it, you know, if the fight was sooner or later?
Yeah, 100%.
This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and I'm really excited for it.
Why are you so light?
Because the Halleck and, you know, the metamorphic people,
I think maybe Cyborg was worried about me coming in at 260 or something like that.
So they said, we're going to do a catch rate at 235.
And for people that don't know this already, it's a 20-minute match straight.
So being the heavier guy is not going to really give you any advantage.
So, you know, when they, hey, this is going to be a 20-minute match.
The only way you win is by submission.
I said, great, can we do 40 minutes?
Wow.
I pride myself on my cardio.
I said, can we do 40 minutes?
And, you know, they're like, absolutely not.
No one's going to watch it for 40 minutes, which I get, which I get.
So it's just a different kind of competition.
And, man, as far as, you know, people always put these labels as training camp and stuff like that.
Listen, this is a lifestyle for me.
So I'm always in great shape.
And I'm always training.
So this is just another day in the office.
office with me. Okay, so let's break it down. It's a 20-minute match. No gee, right?
No gee, yes, sir. No breaks. It's just 20 straight minutes, right? Yeah.
How do you, like, what are you doing? How do you win this match?
What are you doing, hey? You know, it's, yeah, right? You know, Cyborg is, you know, a nine-time
world champ. You know, he makes his living doing jihitsu. You know, so for me to sit there and just do
straight jih Tjitsu with them would kind of not be the best, uh,
way to go. You know, that would be a long day for me. So for me, I'm just going to use my
athleticism and it's going to be a different pace, I think, then he's used to, and, you know,
try and wear them out and look for the submission. But if you submit him once, is the
match over? Over, yeah. Oh, yeah. So this thing could go. If I submit them in 30 seconds, it's over.
Okay, so it's not, you're not trying to do something where it's fire. It's just straight up,
first guy to submit the other guy. There's no points. What about, what about if it goes to
distance. What happens then?
If it goes to the distance, I think this is what's different from the first metamorphous.
They have three judges to base it off who's doing more jihitsu.
So if it goes to the decision, I think that's a win. I don't know how they're doing
that. I know who do you guys think is enough to win. So, you know, how it goes with the judges.
So I'm looking for the submission. I don't understand how they're going to judge it.
I saw an interview you did with, I believe it was Rick Lee and you
you, in something, you got like almost,
I think you brought it up on your own,
but it seems like this has bothered you that people,
because I was actually going to ask you this,
and then I saw the interview where this is a win-win for you, right?
This is a win-win.
You go in there, you're...
Come on, man.
You hate that.
You hate that, right?
Yeah, it's crazy to me.
Yeah, everyone, you know, like, well, it's a win-win for you,
you know, you're sure your skills,
and you're not supposed to win us.
I think I'm like a 9-to-1 underdog, at least right now.
So, man, it's not a win-win.
I would not sign up for anything
if I didn't think I could win.
So for me, I'm going in there to be one of the best
to just two guys in the world.
And it's really not even making a statement.
I expect to win.
Like, I will probably only celebrate if I expect to do well and win.
So, yeah, win-win that.
That's so stupid.
No, man, if you lose, you lose.
You know what I'm saying?
So you received criticism a little bit after your last win.
It was interesting.
I don't know if you ever saw this,
but in Dana White's video blog,
they were showing behind-the-scenes stuff.
And Luke Rockhold, who's in Levar Johnson's corner,
they were kind of putting you down
and what you were doing in the fight
and then it was a little awkward
that you walked up
did you, did you hear them talking about you
because then you walked up
and then you said, you know,
good match then,
they didn't really bring it up.
Did you see that as it was transpiring?
No, I didn't.
What did Luke say?
You know, I have to watch it again,
but he was, you know,
he was kind of trying to make LeVar feel better.
You know, he didn't come to fight.
He was saying things like that.
And then you walked in.
It was when he was getting checked out
in the medicals.
And you didn't say,
and he stopped talking.
And then he stopped talking, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Everyone's tough when no one's around.
I don't know.
I mean, if you want,
like you give him tips on a spinning heel kick,
if you want,
I don't know.
Oh, wow.
Yeah, I mean, I like Luke, man.
So there's no need for that.
But I understand that, you know,
listen, with the Johnson fight, man,
I mean, when I fought Merkel Krocop,
I took him down seven times.
So for them, you know,
not to expect some sort of take down
It's crazy to me.
And, you know, for Luke to bash me doing stuff like that, that's crazy, man.
I mean, I know he's new to the UFC, but, man, the way it works, if someone's better at something than another guy, you use it to your advantage.
So, man, I could care less.
Believe me, he's not the owner.
I'm sure that said stuff.
But I actually like Luke, he's a good guy.
He's a huge feature in the UFC.
So I'm sure he's just trying to make his guy feel better.
That's the way I took it.
But it was just kind of an awkward thing to watch unfold as you then come walk in.
after the fact you watch it, were you happy with the fight?
Or did you feel like some of the criticism, like,
do you think you could have done better on the ground?
Or were you overall happy with the fight in your performance?
I mean, I was happy with me.
I always aim to please that, you know, I don't want fans upset.
You know, I don't want the UFC upset.
So, I mean, yeah, I could have done more.
I probably should have opened up a little more on the feet.
It was just, you were just rushing in.
It was just too easy.
So on the ground, it takes two detangle, man.
When the guy's just holding on and hoping you get stuck,
cut it up. I don't know what you
call that. So, man, listen,
LeVar's a great fighter. He's a tough guy. I did
what I have to do to win. Yeah, it could
have been more exciting.
You know, it is what it is, man.
Matchups make fights, and it just so happens
that he has no grappling abilities, and I did.
And, you know, he got
busted, you know, for the
performance enhancement stuff.
And, you know, I didn't want to see him get cut,
because I think LeBarr can beat a lot of guys in the
heavyweight division with his stand-up if he
gets the right matchup. So I was sad to see that.
High levels of testosterone, he's out of the UFC.
Did that bother you when you heard that?
You know, it didn't.
Like when I saw him, when I arrived to the hotel on Tuesday, he was jacked.
And I said something like, well, hopefully they test this, dude.
Everyone's like, yeah, he's pretty big.
So I assumed it.
I just assumed he was doing something when you look like that, you know?
How does that not bother you?
You're going into fight the guy.
It's part of the game, man.
It's part of the game.
any professional sport, it's part of the game, NFL, NBA, MLB.
I mean, it's just when you're participating in professional sports,
guys are going to, you know, try to find a way to get around it.
And it didn't matter to me.
I really don't care.
You know, I didn't want to see him get cut because of it.
Why not?
Man, if he needed that to beat me, you're already screwed.
You're already weak-minded.
And I'm going to do what I need to do, and I'm definitely going to win.
Because when the going gets rough, and you're depending on,
be steroids or whatever you did to, you know, look like that, man, I'm definitely going to
beat you to have more skills. Those steroids aren't going to give you skills.
So would you rather guys just not get tested?
No, you know, I think to a certain extent, you got it, you can't have guys, you know,
you can't go back to the Pride Days or you can't have guys like, you know, back in
1998 with Mark McGuire and Sammy Sos and guys just, you know, be 600 feet home runs all the
time. I mean, yeah, it's entertaining, but you just can't have it. I think it's dangerous.
But Silvar did live with a huge uppercut.
and it breaks my jaw or something like that, then we got problems.
So, but regardless, you didn't feel like when you were in the cage that he had any kind of advantage, right?
Oh, he had an advantage for sure.
Oh, he was a way strong.
You felt, okay, wow.
That's interesting.
Why do you think I could have taken him down?
When we got into critch, I was like, good, Lord, this guy is eating different steak and potatoes than I am.
I better take his ground because I assume he was on that.
So usually when guys are taking stuff, I get the cardio is not as good.
But hence why I kept taking him down.
I just figured I keep taking him down and you get worn out and I knock him out.
Well, it's didn't work, turn out that way.
You know, it's funny.
I see you, you're really, you're hanging in some really important circles these days.
You're in L.A. now, right?
Correct.
I see you, you're Henner here on Gracie.
You're with Ronda Rousey.
I've seen pictures of you.
I mean, you're with the Krem de la Crem over there.
You're loving life over there in Los Angeles, right?
I guess, man.
I surround myself with, you know, good people and, you know, who have similar interests.
So I think that's the way it happens.
We kind of attract, you know, each other.
So what is your team?
Like, do you have a team or do you just kind of go around from, you know, coach here,
coach there, Jim here, Jim there?
No, I mean, I have a team.
You know, I do most of my team training at Ring Training Center in Orange County with Mark
Munoz and Jake Ellenberg and all those guys.
And then I do all my jitutesum and grappling at the Gracie Academy in Torrance.
and then I do my boxing, that boxing burn in Santa Monica with Tony Jeffries.
So I kind of go all over, but it's the same routine, you know,
and then they all come together, you know, when I'm in camp.
So I have a really good team out here.
I still do some work in Denver.
Do you ever roll with Ronorowski?
Oh, yeah.
Really?
All the time.
How does that go?
How does that go?
She's tough, man.
She's like a little black belt koala there.
She jumps around.
She just does unconventional stuff.
She's a little badass.
So she submits you?
She, I'm pleased to say she's never submitted me.
Can she?
I don't know.
I don't know, man.
You're going full strength against her, right?
You're not going easy on her.
I'm not going full strength.
Why not?
You know, her 35-pound girl, she's my friend.
Yeah, but she has other people to go hard with.
You're not trying to beat her up.
You're just, you're competing.
I think she would be upset if she found out you weren't going full strength.
Yeah, she will be upset.
Yeah, I don't know, man.
She has smaller guys to do that way.
I mean, right now, you know, I'm 235 pounds.
Yeah, it's a little, you know, a hundred pounds, a little too much.
I don't want to hurt her.
And then, who knows, Dana would get pissed.
That's true, he would get pissed.
He would get pissed.
Now, why don't more people train with the Gracie brothers?
Like, is this an exclusive club that you have to do something to get into?
Because, you know, a lot of the guys who live in that area,
it seems like you have to be at a certain status to train with these guys.
Is that accurate?
I mean, you've got to be at a certain level.
I mean, other than that, you know, you can come in and sign up and take the class
and go through the process.
But, you know, you got Jake Ellenberger, Leota Machita, Ronda Rousey, you know, Mark Munoz,
myself.
That's kind of our crew that go down there.
So, you know, there's guys like Kevin Casey.
I mean, you got Studge, Crone Gracie.
So, I mean, anyone can go there.
But to train with the pros, you know, that top level pros that, you know, it's a different animal.
But we're in the regular classes, too.
Kevin Casey.
Anyone who sucks.
Go ahead, sorry.
Go ahead.
No, go ahead.
Kevin Casey, did he ever tell you that he gave himself a black belt?
No, no, I have not heard that.
That's the rumor about it.
Go ask him and report back to us.
That's the rumor that he actually awarded him.
You know, he's hung out with the Graces forever, but that's the rumor that he actually
awarded himself a black belt.
No way.
Yeah.
He had a ceremony in time.
I don't know if he did the actual ceremony, but yeah.
You know, he used to be...
Do you know Kevin at all?
He's been on the show.
Oh, why?
Would that piss him off?
He's an intense dude for sure
He's a rapper too
Yeah
Yeah, so tall like if you've seen
Gene G and a Gee.
Geneagie is awesome
But he took it
It's like you can't find that thing
I tried to play for him
When he was on my show
But it seems like he's almost ashamed of it
To be honest
Nah, I thought it was entertaining
Has he ever done it
Performed before you live
No
No
You never know
You come to Meta Morris
You don't know what you see
I will
I do look forward to
By this case
So let's wrap on this
you're fighting Matt Matured on July 27th.
Were you being serious when you invited Fallon Fox to come train with you to get back
at M40 said on this very show?
Yeah, I'm always serious, man.
Dead serious, yeah.
Everyone knows me, knows him as serious as it gets.
I mean, come on.
You know, I poke front at Matt for it.
He's taking a lot of heat.
Matt's a good buddy of mine.
They're all scared and love and more, right?
So, yeah, it offers there.
If she wants to come train, come on down.
Did she reach out to you after you said that?
this?
I don't know.
I don't think so.
I haven't heard anything
from her manager.
I think she has a fight
coming up.
I'm not sure.
She actually
just fought.
Yeah,
because in the interview,
you actually called her
Fox Fallon,
so I really know
you don't follow her
too much.
Yeah,
yeah, yeah.
That would be great.
If that actually
happened,
you need to get a camera
crew there.
You do like a little
promo, you and her
calling out Matt.
You know it would be awesome
if she's in your corner.
Can you imagine?
I don't know if the UFC
would allow that
to happen.
But now you're
taking it to another
level, my man.
That's a little too
pro wrestling.
Not a little too much.
But you think
you'll have that same fire,
that same,
I want to kick this guy's ass
when you're in the cage
with Matt Matreone,
a guy who you were in the house
with on tough friends.
Are you able to get that out of you
when you're fighting your friend?
Yeah, you know,
I like to think so.
You know, when I fought
Merccoe croak, who was my childhood hero,
you know, I'd shoot, man,
I was in there to win it.
So there's too much on the line
to not, you know,
there's too much going.
So, yeah, I don't think it's a big issue once that cage door slams it's on, and Matt knows that.
Do you need a spectacular performance, though, considering the fact that some criticize you have to last one,
you need to do something crazy in this fight to get in the good graces of the fans in the UFC?
Are you thinking of it that way or not?
No, not at all.
You know, I just do my thing, and, you know, my fan support is pretty crazy.
I have some really loyal fans, and whenever I go out, I get a great reception.
So I don't think like that.
I just go in and do my thing.
You know, and I'm going to win however Matt gives me the opportunity to submit,
knockout, whatever is there, I'll take it.
Are you still training with Tim Tebow?
Yeah, yep.
I was just training with him about four weeks ago.
And what do you do with him?
You know, we'll do some jit-to-minute.
I go through his workout routine.
We'll do a track workout.
He's a beast, man.
How is he on the ground?
He's tough because he's so strong.
You know, he doesn't do it enough.
where he's going to freaking, you know, submit anyone right now.
But he's tough.
You know, he just looks to stand up and gets risk control.
And he's tough, man.
Look at you.
Ronda Rousey, Hennar Gracie, Tentiva.
Have you gone Hollywood on us or what?
Who else are you training with?
Are you training with Ed O'Neill as well?
No, man, he's working.
He's a full-time working actor.
You never see him at the gym?
I just go.
Oh, I see him at the gym all the time.
Oh.
I just go to.
do my thing, man, and these people are there, you know?
So you roll with Rhonda, but you won't roll with Al Bundy?
Why not? Why don't you get him involved in the fun?
You know, I don't think Al wants to roll. I don't know.
He's never really asked you. He's coming. He watches, really.
I think when he does roll, he's going, you know, with some of the older guys.
So I'd love to roll with him. Heck, yeah, who didn't love freaking married to children?
You know, he's going to be the color commentator on Sunday?
Yeah, I'm aware. I'm aware. I'm looking forward to it, man.
Okay, so give us the pitch. Why should they watch you?
on Sunday
eye pay-per-view.
It's
1995.
You can get it
online.
And the last one,
the stream was
incredible.
So I highly recommend
it.
It's Metamoros.com
U.
versus Cyborg,
Gabriel,
Brandon Schaub
in a
B.JJ
competition.
Or people don't like it
when you say B.J.
They're like just
jujitsu.
They don't want to
just label it.
But how are you
going to beat this guy?
How are you going to do it?
Call your shot for us.
Yeah.
I'm just going to stay
athletic on them.
You know,
I'm representing the UFC.
So I'm going to
look for a
finish, man. You're getting
kind of, you're mixing the
UFC with a pure jih Tzu guy,
and I think a lot of people are excited and see what happened,
so tune in Sunday. I love it.
I think it's a great idea. I wish you the best
of luck. I appreciate you coming on. Good luck
in this match on Sunday. Metamores
2 against Cyborg, and then good luck July 27th
against Mr. Matt Mitchell,
that's going to be a very fun heavy. You've got an interesting
summer coming up, my friend. I hope you're ready.
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Always ready.
Like I said, I could fight Matt tomorrow if I needed
too, so always ready, my man. I appreciate
to support, and I'm sure I'll be on before
Matreo. You have that little respect for Matt
Matrione. You can fight him tomorrow. I'm going to tell him that.
No, no. I'm just in shape.
I'm going to shape on it. You can tell whatever you
are. We're fighting regardless.
I'm kidding. I'm kidding. Best of luck to
you, Brendan. Thanks for stopping by. We'll be watching.
Oh, brother. Take care, man.
There he is. Brendan Schaubb, UFC heavyweight
dipping his toe in the
jiu-jitsu water on
Sunday. As I mentioned, the first one that they did,
the stream was great, the quality
was great. It looked good. It was lit nicely.
if you're interested in seeing some, and I mentioned, you know, MMA guys going over,
Shinayoki's going to be involved.
Bralea Estima is on the card.
They had Ryan Hall.
He got injured.
But it's a fun card.
It's a unique way to present Jiu-Jitsu, and it's a better way, in my opinion, to present
you just a bunch of matches, no tournament.
You know, you put out these countdown videos.
You get people emotionally invested.
It makes sense.
And I wish them luck.
I think it's going to be a lot of fun.
And you got Henner Gracie.
as the play-by-play guy and the color commentator is Ed O'Neill. How about that? That's worth the
1995. 1995 seems like a bit expensive, if we're being honest. I think for a second one, maybe you go
$9.95, maybe you go $14.99, something like that. But hey, if they think they could get people for
1995, more power to them. Now, in a minute, I believe he's in the house. I believe he's here.
Hopefully we don't get lucky Patrick. That's all I'm going to say.
and usually when we have a guest in studio, we actually take a break.
But this time, I just wanted to bring him in, because I haven't seen Mayhem since our walk-and-talk in the park, right?
We had the episode on the MMA hour in October when he was Lucky Patrick.
We've got the jacket right above my right shoulder there.
And then we kissed, we made up.
He almost broke our cameras.
but everything was good. Just two weeks later, you can kind of see it right over there. There it is.
Just two weeks later, we had this walk-and-talk, this hour-long interview that a lot of people
apparently enjoyed. And I haven't seen him. I haven't really talked to him since then. But people
have been asking me lately, what's up with mayhem? Where's ma'am? Where's he been? Any word for
mayhem? And I actually texted him just a couple of days ago. And I said, hey, ma'am. People are
asking about you. And here he is.
Here I am.
Right over here. Actually, you got to come around.
Fuck you like a hurricane!
You're going to grab that chair. I just wanted you to come in because I haven't
seen you in so long that I wanted this to be an organic hello.
How are you, my friend? Come on. Come on, hug it. Bring it in.
This side two. Did you have a stroke? What's the matter?
This feels good. How are you?
It feels right? You're in good shape.
Am I? Yeah.
Bro, this is one year sitting on the couch, mayhem.
Really?
Yeah, I've got good genetics.
We're going to share this mic here for a second while, Brendan.
You know, Brendan works on a show.
He was there at infamous appearance back in October.
Whoa, hey, what's going on with the knee pads?
You're wearing knee pads, right?
I'm a robot.
All right, we'll get to that in a second.
Actually, you got cancels.
I do have giant legs, yeah.
And he said, you know, this is our first show with these cameras.
He said, don't touch the cameras.
Man, who said that?
This guy said that.
Listen, I'm a television professional.
They're expensive.
He's going to put it on the thing.
How about that?
Are they your fathers?
I was just talking about that.
How about that?
Right there.
What?
Isn't that fun?
Lucky Patrick remains!
He's still a part of...
Oh, we're going to talk about this too in a second.
He's very unprofessional, by the way.
I look...
Shouldn't you guys be ready already?
No, no, this is...
We usually...
Are we cutting right now?
No, no.
I want it to be live.
I want it to be live.
This is how they do it on the Howard Stern...
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
I wanted this.
I wanted this.
To awkwardly do this?
This is how they do it on the Howard Stern show.
I'm my ass.
No, they don't.
They do.
Or are you going to ask me about my penis size?
No, no, no, no.
I wanted this.
I wanted this.
I wanted this.
It's a very...
I'm taking off this monkey too.
I'm going to rock my shirt, baby.
It's funny that you...
For the smart MMA fan.
Do we have a headphone for him?
Whatever, I can yell.
No, it's better to...
All right.
You know what, man.
You're a scholar and a gentleman.
There he is, ladies and gentlemen.
gentlemen, Mayhem Miller, back on the MMA hour.
You should never have him on again.
What do you make of that?
I saw you retweeting some...
I love it. I thought it was so cute.
I'm like, man, they don't get Lucky Patrick. That's cool.
Do people still ask you about that?
Do people still ask you about that?
Nah, but, I mean, no one wants to ask about Lucky Patrick.
Why not?
Well, I mean, he's Lucky Patrick.
Right.
Yeah, nobody wants to talk to him.
You know, I actually just saw the movie recently.
Which movie?
Here comes to Boom.
Oh, yeah.
Will you be offended?
appearances. Will you be offended if I say
I didn't love it?
Interestingly, that's my...
My wife loved it.
Well, duh. She liked it.
The story had heart!
But I felt like they just, they may move to the UFC
too quickly. That jump was just
too dramatic. And I know some people are getting... They got two
hours, come on. Spend your disbelief.
I know, I know. Suspend your... Come on.
Ariel Hwani, you're so pragmatic.
Why are you sweating so much? Man, I drink this coffee.
Look, I'm wearing robot legs.
Pull the thing up the, man, a giant, don't worry, I got gifts for you.
You do?
Yeah.
Okay.
Come on, man.
This all this stuff is awesome.
And everybody was angry that I knocked over your dolls.
Those dolls are made a polyurethane.
They'll be around here for like 10,000 years.
How about that?
George St. Pierre's face will be emblazoned in a heap of trash in the middle of the Pacific Ocean somewhere.
Like, it's just going to be forever.
Do you see the picture about the dinosaurs come back?
Right above the champions' mantle.
And I'll say, we had Chris White.
Wideman in studio right before you.
Oh,
Widman's not here,
the Great Wide American Hope?
I said this is my favorite
MMA picture of all time,
taken by the great Esther Lin.
Man, Esther Lin is the best photographer.
No, but honestly,
I'm not just saying that.
There's something about the picture,
about, this is you versus Sakuraba,
this is Dream,
the light above you.
Do you remember this?
Do I?
Vividly.
Did you do that spontaneously?
Or did it kind of come about...
It kind of like was like
in my head a little bit.
Like, I was like, man, I have to show this man respect, you know, because the young,
eat the old, right?
Right.
So it's like, at this point in my career and in my life, I was like, oh, man, get to like
be Sakaraba.
You know what I'm saying?
But did you think of doing that before the fight or in the moment?
In the moment, it just spontaneously combusted.
Really?
You know, in my head, I feel like I owe this man so much respect, you know?
I feel like I owe this man so much respect.
And I have to beat him up because that's my job.
Right.
you know and I did what I said I was going to do I submitted them you know like that was only man to submit him right
yeah yeah yeah did you feel bad I felt bad for punching him in his face super hard like I got him one time like bink and I felt it inside my knuckles like oh oh oh I was a good one
I was like oh oh I looked at his face and he like oh oh like looking around all while that's what I jumped and grab and choked him
and I was like oh sweet and it's that you know that's a move like I learned from him I feel like really yeah
Yeah, I feel like I saw him.
Watching him.
Yeah, watching him.
You never trained with him, right?
No, never trained with them, which is weird, you know, because I'm a big fan of the Japs.
Right.
We hang out all the time.
Japanese fighters.
I love the Japs.
They're the best.
They're the best to go drink with.
They're crazy.
So in the moment, what were you trying to say by doing that?
I just love this picture.
It's something about, you know what I said?
This is the white, he's down.
You're paying your respects.
But what were you trying to say?
How pasty I am, really, is also.
It looks good.
How much you weigh there?
Yeah, I don't know.
No, 200 pounds.
Oh, really?
I guess, yeah.
Or, I mean, we weighed in at 83 kilos, right?
Right.
Yeah, 83 kilos.
And then I swell back up, you know, water status.
That's the famous Susumu, the photographer.
I know, yeah.
You know, the sport of mixed martial arts has been documented in so many beautiful ways.
And, you know, it's one, I think it's one of the first, yeah, it's the first sport to, like, coming to this time of digital revolution.
You know, where everything's internet, like, stuck on there was the first one.
Because it was like all the kids back in the day, like me, 15 on AOL,
no MMA hour, no nothing, you know.
We called it NHB.
Right.
No holds bard fighting.
That's what we called it.
We're like, and we were accepting.
Everyone was accepting of that.
Like, yeah.
Internet.
Internet.
Internet.
Internet.
I mean, what other business could you hemorrhage money for like 10 years and they still keep going?
Do you still follow the sport?
Are you still a fan of the sport?
Yeah, sometimes I hang out with fight people, and it's awesome.
And I get to watch...
What do you mean fight people?
Fight people, animals.
Okay.
Yeah, the monkeys.
You watch the fights.
I watched the fights last weekend.
But when you're, when you're, like, at home, just doing nothing, you don't go on the websites anymore.
You don't...
Nah, I mean, look, I completely lived eight and breathed mixed martial arts for 15 years.
Right.
It's tiring.
I'm allowed to eat now.
Yeah.
I can drink a beer if I feel like it.
Yeah. I'm like, man, this is just tremendous.
Like, I feel free.
I'm like, man, I can just be mayhem.
So you don't really care to follow the sport.
You don't feel like it's something that you need to keep up with.
I'm not really involved in that much besides coaching guys around the country.
Oh, really?
Yeah, so I've been traveling around.
Man, I just came back from upstate New York.
Yeah, tell me about that.
Grandville, it was awesome.
So I saw a picture.
You just tweeted a picture yesterday of you teaching some guys.
What are you doing?
Some seminars?
Yes.
It's interesting that you're doing that.
I really like to teach.
I do.
I do.
I like to...
I have all this knowledge.
So, I mean, it was kind of wasteful to keep it to myself.
But there was a time, and we had private conversations about this that I won't go into too much, but there was a time where I almost felt like you weren't going to do that.
Yeah.
I know.
And it's because I came around to this realization that, man, these are my people.
Yeah.
These are my people.
This is what you do?
Yeah.
There's monkeys all around the country.
Right.
And when I meet him, I know him.
And I love them.
I feel that, you know, we have this.
It's just guy, like, one guy is, like, talking about, yeah, I'm going to fight some guy.
I'm like, well, you need to get tape.
You need to know about this guy.
And he's like, oh, you just want to fight someone.
Yeah.
I get it.
Completely.
Used to be like that.
That's my people.
All the time, yeah.
Right.
What do you mean?
Are you still like that?
No, no, no.
No, I'm a buttercup these days.
Really?
Yeah.
I worked on my interpersonal skills.
trying to unbecome the animal that I made myself into.
Is that true?
Yeah.
Who's helping you do that?
Me.
By yourself?
Well, I mean, I'm reading a lot of books.
Like what?
I'm trying to stand on the shoulders of giants.
Like what?
How subliminal thoughts control your mind?
Yeah, it's a good one.
You should check it out.
Where have you been doing these?
Is it too hot in here for you?
Man, I'm boiling.
Look at me.
Should we put the air conditioning on?
Yeah.
Wait, you have that as an option?
I'm running hot, bro.
I got a major.
him every shirt that I wear
already because I'm dead. No, no, no, don't do that.
I'm just saying.
If anyone's, Brendan, if you want to come back here, I like
a toasty. I'm going to put on another shirt, man.
Bring my suitcase.
Bring my suitcase.
Brendan, Brendan, put some
a little air conditioning on. Pull it, man. Crank it up,
Brendan, or lose this shirt, Brendan.
Lose this shirt, dude.
I'm just kidding. No, but lose your shirt.
As long as it doesn't affect the audio.
Thanks, man. Air conditioning is good, man.
All right, he needs the air conditioning.
Now, lose your shirt.
The bag, his bag.
Come on, man.
Give me a bunch of those shirts.
Give me a bunch of these shirts.
Donkey boy!
Donkey boy!
Donkey boy!
Where have you been?
Like, in the past five minutes?
No, like doing these seminars.
Oh, seminars, seminars, seminars.
Yeah, Granville.
I went to, I don't know, like Utah or something.
I don't know.
They're all a blur.
How are people booking you?
Facebook sometimes?
Really?
Yeah, it's awesome.
The power of the internet.
The power of the internet.
Going to Georgia sometime.
I haven't been to Georgia in forever.
Which is funny because I talk like this.
Throw them right here, Brennan.
Throw him right here.
Hit me in the face with it.
Oh.
That's a weak throw, man.
I told you it hit me in the face with it.
Oh, wow.
Have some free shirts.
So here we go.
I feel like, look.
Did you make these?
Did I make them?
Yes, donkey boy.
Bro, we're going to go public with this company.
In about two weeks, man, I'm telling you.
What's it going to be called?
The initial public offer on this t-shirt company is going to be swole.
Get your Wall Street fence quick.
What's it called?
Donkey Boy.
Oh, really?
Yeah, man.
Look at a tag.
Is that why you keep calling him?
Donkey Boy!
So who's this?
This is for like the smart M.A.
crowd who understands that if you get in a triangle choke, that you may well die.
Is there only one shirt right now?
Is there only one style?
This is the best one?
You disrespect Albert Einstein?
Do you have to get, honestly, honest question,
do you have to get like some kind of like licensing thing to use his,
or has he been dead long enough?
I'm cool with his aunt.
Oh, you are.
Yeah, she's still alive.
She's like a frozen from the head up.
Okay.
So, you know, she's still alive and she can, you know,
she's signed off on it.
I got a notary public there.
No, I honestly think that if you're, if you've been passed away for long enough,
that's.
I'm just going to go ahead and say, put my face on the t-shirt,
why I'm alive. Right. Why not? Don't wait until
I'm dead. Who else is a part of this?
The company.
I love that I can hear
everyone cracking up out there and it's like time
delayed. It's like they're cracking
up on the West Coast right now. Exactly.
Don't pay attention to them.
Why not? I love those people out there.
You've lost touch, Errol Hawana.
You think so? Who's running this show?
Is it just you doing this company?
No, man. Do you know a comedian by the name
of Jawsap Koi?
No.
there's a very good chance
they're not laughing at us
so don't
even better
they're watching YouTube right now
instead of this stupid show
and people out there
are like tweet me
his show is not stupid
it's the best thing ever
I agree
that's why you're here
I'm trolling you
have you done an interview
since our walk in the park
walking the park
nah
that was fun
nah
I stayed locked away
inside my castle
I say my brain
was infected by devils
are you in a better place now
I like was never that bad
Good Lord
You were a little
Yeah
Lucky Patrick's your ass
And you were like
Oh my God
He knows how to act
A little bit
Yeah
Any acting gigs since then
Yes
Really
I've been acting this whole time
It's so fun
I'm like man
I get to be crazy Polly in this movie
Man I'm so excited
About the future
Really?
Yes
Where do you live now
I live in Orange County California
Same place
Yeah
Art House man
You should come to my
Purple Pineapple Pool party
some time.
What's that?
It's an art party.
Showcase some art.
You've been doing a lot of art lately.
Sell some stuff.
Yeah.
Do you anything to show us?
No.
Why not?
Because I keep it close to the vest.
Are you going to sell it?
Am I?
Maybe.
I could like give it to the charity or something.
All the money that you make off of you.
I need to, yeah.
You know, it feels good.
And besides, like, I would do this for free anyway.
Without being too personal.
That's always how I looked at my art.
Really?
Yeah.
I always like mixed martial arts too.
Oh, really?
Yeah, to me, I always viewed it as beautiful.
It got very corporatized and business.
Like, the art got sucked out of it.
Which is natural, though, right?
The higher you go, you're going to try to make a living off this thing.
I know, but everybody now is fighting to keep their job.
It's sad.
You think that's a difference in like three?
It's breeding this kind of boring thing, man.
You think it's boring now?
Definitely.
I mean, people don't know what they're missing out on, really.
That's what it is.
If you're an old school fan and watched Pride and everything,
and, you know, saw fights in Japan and saw how they did it there,
you don't really realize what you're missing out on.
And I don't blame Americans for not realizing it,
because we're ahead.
I don't know about you, but I was well ahead of the curve.
I was watching this on VCR.
I was like VHS tapes double-dub over it.
I'm talking Hicks and Gracie status.
Why do you say it like that?
I don't know about you.
What are you trying to say?
I'm a noob.
I'm not saying you're a nob.
I mean, kind of, I'm just saying, like, if,
compared to me, you're a noob, for sure.
Really?
Yeah, because I remember when you first were getting into it, I was the first interview, right?
You just all of a sudden happened upon it.
I've been in this meathead sport since I was little baby.
I could have been a fan just because I wasn't.
How would a fan like me get in touch with you?
Once I became a journalist, then you knew who I was.
Well, what are you talking about?
I knew who you were the minute you walked up.
That knows.
I was like, this guy's got a promising future.
Come here.
I was like, come on, let's talk.
I definitely, you know, and I was on Mayhem Mania at that time of my life.
I felt that
I felt like
those were a peak years of fighting
It was awesome
It was like the best part
You want to know something crazy
The first
Event that I was ever credentialed for
As a journalist
Was HDNet fights 2
Nice
You versus
What?
You don't remember
Bob Hoskins
No
Tim Kennedy
Man Tim Kennedy's American hero
You remember that
Damn right
What city?
I don't know
Dallas
I was just kidding dude
I remember everything
You do
I just want to see you recall
in journalistic detail.
What was the co-mate event?
What was the co-mate event?
What hotel did we stay at?
I don't remember that.
What incident did you get into that time?
Do you remember the co-main event?
Frank Trigg.
Trig for who?
Do you really not remember?
I don't remember.
Man, I was in the back working, dude.
I was doing this.
Kill him!
Kill him!
Edwin Deweez.
Babyface.
Yeah.
Oh, man.
Has any promotion?
There he is.
Shogun.
A lot of people saying that your boy,
Chal Shunan,
might fight him.
Yeah!
Would you like to see that?
I would like to see that.
What do you think of Chal?
I think he's like an American hero.
Everyone's American hero?
Everyone's American hero? They can't all be American hero.
Nah, he is in a way, man.
He's the white knight of the Republicans.
You like the Chal Sonan persona that's out there?
I think it's hilarious.
Do you really?
Yeah.
He's good on Twitter.
No.
No.
So where is he hilarious?
I'm the master of Twitter.
But Chil Sondon is like the politician to end all
Politicians.
I feel like I would finance his campaign if I was the Koch brother.
When did you first meet him?
Jail.
At an Indian casino.
He threw me through the floor one time.
Really?
I knocked his eyes in the back of his head.
Yeah, we're like 19.
Seriously?
Yeah.
You got into a fight with him?
Well, yeah, at an Indian casino, I didn't know I was fighting him.
Oh, you actually really fought him.
Yeah.
No, I figured.
It was only two rounds.
It's whack.
There's not a three-round fight.
You know, it was back in the day.
Right.
Baby.
the first time you met him?
Yeah,
punched his face.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You won?
No.
He won.
Decision with the takedowns.
In a two-round fight?
I know.
How can he...
So he won both rounds.
Oh, no.
He's fucking double-legged me nice.
He got me like a good one one one time.
I was like, wee!
Did you think that...
I remember thinking that.
I was like, man, I'm going to knock his head up.
Wee!
Was it in a ring or cage?
Cage?
Cage?
A crudy cage that broke the floor.
He slammed me through the floor one time.
And then we had to, like,
then we, like, had a general.
agreement to not go over there.
Really?
Yeah.
Welcome to Indian casino fights.
You spoke to each other in the middle of the fight?
Yeah.
Don't go over there.
Well, it wasn't a talk.
I was like, I started circling them over there to try to hit him.
And then I was like, oh, no, that's messed up.
No, let's fight over here.
What was the worst?
Ring awareness.
The worst sort of conditions you ever fought in.
Man, I fought in a basement on time.
This weird thing, it looked like blood sport.
Really?
Yeah.
It was like crazy, looking back at it.
In the U.S.?
Yeah, in the U.S.
Straight up basement.
No.
Basically, yeah.
There's video out there, too.
It looks like the basement from Saw.
Yeah.
But was there a ring?
A wrestling mat on the ground and a ring attached to the wall on the concrete.
I got on a dude's back and started choking him.
This guy was like weird.
He wanted to wear some ninja shoes.
This is in 1999, 98 or something.
How many fights into your career?
I don't know.
Two?
Okay.
Three?
Let's look up.
I want to know who's a guy.
No, this is that.
This is a small gym fight.
Man, this is not a shirt dog.
Are you kidding me?
It's not?
Well, dude.
It wasn't sanction?
Yeah.
Sanction.
sanction is illegal.
It was like completely illegal.
Okay.
Yeah.
North Carolina, too.
Really?
Yeah.
Did you win?
Yeah.
I got on the guy's back and we tore the ropes down off the concrete wall.
And I was like, oh, what are going to do?
I was like, man, I was just on his back.
I was about to finish him.
Damn it.
And they pulled the ropes out and everybody got around in a circle.
To act as the ropes?
Do you get paid for that?
I think $200.
Really?
Yeah.
So what was your win money?
That was your show money.
What did you get a show win?
It was like out of some fat dude's wallet who was selling liquor, I think.
How does someone reach you to do that?
What?
How does someone tell you that there's a fight?
They go to the gym and they go, hey little kid, do you want to fight a dude?
All right, cool, let's do it.
Wow.
Was the other guy bigger or smaller than you?
He was bigger than me.
He was a grown man.
Yeah.
And how old were you?
I was only grown man, 17, 18, yeah.
Wow.
I know.
Weird, right?
That was the worst condition?
Nah.
Nah.
I got a, I got drinks thrown on me by Armenians in L.A.
That was pretty awesome.
Why?
Before the fight or after the fight?
During the fight.
Really?
Yeah, they were throwing shit.
I was like, just get out of here.
Let's go.
There's a hometown decision, too.
And I was like, let's get out of here before we get stabbed the death.
Rampage started yelling at people.
I was like, man, come on, let's go.
Wait, did you win?
Yeah.
No, I lost.
It was a hometown decision.
So why did they throw the drinks at you if you want?
They threw out everybody.
It just started a riot in that, like, like,
The guy you were fighting was Armenian?
Yeah.
Carl Prisian.
Oh, I've heard of him.
History people, yeah.
Yeah.
Wow.
Noob.
Well, I didn't know.
I've heard of him.
Yeah, well, I've heard of him.
Yeah, well, I've heard of him.
So, I've heard of him.
Is he?
Yeah.
See, man, I don't know.
Like Barone.
Everybody, yeah, I love Phil Barone.
Injured his ankle.
Did he?
On Friday, one FC.
I feel like you would like one FC.
Why?
I don't know.
There are a lot of events over in Asia,
kind of pride rules,
throwback, if you would.
Well, anyway, we'll get back to that in a second.
If pride rules, you can stop the guy?
Yeah.
Man, I'm good at that.
You like that?
Yeah.
I practice that all the time because those are the first ones that we did.
Like, we always had where you could stop the guy on the ground and punt him and all that.
I don't like that.
Yeah, I know, yeah.
I believe you.
Do you think it should be in the unified rules?
I mean, I think they should experiment with different rules.
I mean, here in New York.
Well, there's not.
It's a mess.
You can't even do anything here.
reaching out to some people while I'm here in New York.
Really? You're going to get this done?
I want to get it done. What are you going to do, honestly?
Man, call your congressman. Don't worry.
You do realize...
We just onslaught them with Mayhem Monkeys, just nonstop.
Monkeys want to see fights in New York.
And Madison Square Garden... You realize it has nothing to do with the sport.
I know. Well, I'm saying, maybe Mayhem can build bridges.
I would love to see you in Albany, wearing a suit, telling the...
Telling the assembly why this sport should be legalized.
Albany? I got mad friends in Albany.
Let's do this.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Why are you wearing those knee pads?
They're not knee pads, man.
What are they?
They're my robot legs.
Oh, did you have the surgery?
No.
Oh.
Yeah, well, you know, they pretended they were going to give me the surgery.
What's the latest on that?
Yeah, after I talk to you, the nose, nose.
And suddenly, oh, they start acting like they're going to fix my leg.
You got someone who called you?
No, they went back and they just dragged it out until now my insurance coverage expired.
So now I can't get my knee fix.
So I'm going to sell some T-shirts outside of this place
and maybe we can get kick-started to get my knee fixed, okay, everybody?
Which knee is it?
My left knee.
Left knee.
That would be that one.
Same one I hurt in the fight.
CB.
Weren't you injured going into that fight, though?
No.
What's up with that knee then?
Well, see, if you're walking around with no ACL for one year,
gosh.
Kobe Bryant is a pussy.
So you have to do it on both.
Because now the other one is overcompancing.
Yeah, overcomicating.
I'm walking like a hunchback of Notre Dame over here.
How much pain are you in?
Whatever.
So that's the big problem, right?
Is that, you know, I'm hurting.
But I got so used to ignoring pain over my entire life of doing the job that I did.
And I bet it's a bit of genetics because my dad has done the same thing.
But just try to walk right through the pain, whatever.
And then your foot swells up like a damn watermelon.
and try to work out real hard?
Man, nope, until I got my robot legs from Asterix.
Oh, that helps you?
Yeah.
But you have to wear that everywhere you go?
Man, I know.
It's crazy, right?
That's horrible.
Yeah, I know, right?
How big is it?
How far...
That's what she said.
How far up your leg does it go?
That's what she said also.
No, that's not really.
What do you mean?
That doesn't apply.
I can do it whatever I want, all right?
That's not a bad one.
It's not a great one.
The first one was good.
The first one was good.
You're a comedy.
How much would the surgery cost?
I don't know.
over like 50 G's?
Maybe, yeah.
Really?
Yeah.
Whatever.
You don't have that kind of money.
I got A-Rab money.
Would you ever do a Kickstarter thing?
Yeah, of course.
Why not?
I love the Internet.
What do we want to do?
Come on, let's do a project right now.
For your surgery?
For my surgery?
Yeah.
But I have to give the people something.
I can't just be like, hey.
You'll come back.
I mean, this is kind of a damn tell-tale sign of Americans' capitalistic society
with a high.
Just give me some health care.
I can't get my knee fix?
Good Lord.
I don't have the right to walk around.
Are you still Canadian?
I was just about to say that.
You knew it.
Let me go to your mom's house and just stay there and get a knee surgery in Canada.
Yeah.
I'm tired of bickering with the insurance company.
Kidding me right now?
We have someone who wants to talk to you on the phone.
Who?
Dave?
No.
Let's go to the phone lines.
Someone wants to talk to Mayhem.
Dave on Long Island.
Line number one.
Are you there, Dave?
I'm here, Ariel.
Hey, buddy, how are you? Can you hear you?
Pretty good, pretty good.
Yes.
My first question isn't actually for mayhem, but my second one and follow-up kind is for mayhem.
Okay, go ahead.
The first one, you had Chris Wyatman and Gianvalante on your interview before.
Do you think it's a little disrespectful that the UFC is opening a gym within like two blocks of Sarah's gym?
I don't really think so
It's a kind of
It's a different gym
Don't build a mosque at Ground Zero
The UFC gym is a totally different beast
The UFC gym is more for like the general folk
Who like to go in, train
It's not for what's going on in, in my opinion
And Sarah's gym's more of a jiu-jitsu
Establishment
What's your question for mayhem?
All right
Mayhem
I don't know when your next interview is going to be
or not entry,
podcast is going to be on
Joe Rogan,
and what made you change
your persona a little bit?
Like,
you were like,
there's always cool
down earth guy,
whatever,
and then something happened.
I don't know
whatever happened,
maybe a life experience.
Damn on.
D&T.
ayahuasca.
Something.
Talking to the mic.
I know how to do a radio show.
What happened?
I just don't want to yell too loud.
It's a very good question.
Yeah,
what's wrong with you guys?
I already said this before.
Are you still religious?
Are you still religious?
Which religion?
Every one of them.
Okay.
Because they're all right.
They're just saying it in a different way.
No, but his question is, he...
So what you're saying, Dave...
Yeah, he's asking,
did you, like, trip mushrooms and change your mind?
Nah, man, I, like, felt the love.
And, you know, I look, I was a hardcore atheist my whole life.
Hardcore, because you can't put, you know, science.
You can't put anything above science, right?
And I don't, still.
But I'm willing to concede that there's certain things that we don't understand
outside this range of consciousness.
You know, we were only aware of so many things in this world.
And it's really funny to me that a lot of people discount completely
something that's been with humans since our inception since we damn crawled out of those rocks.
You know what I mean?
So you grew up an atheist.
See, that right there is a smart mayhem set up.
A lot of people think I'm retarded.
So Dave, what you're trying to say is you used to be a mayhem fan.
You're not one anymore.
Is that what you're trying to say?
No, I'm still a mayhem fan, but I just, I feel like he's a little more like cartoon, not cartoonie, but like more outrageous, you know, like a Luke Kumo.
Yeah, wait, who's Luke Kummo?
He sounds awesome.
He's like his name.
Yeah, he was on the ultimate fighter, a bit of a quirky guy.
Yeah, it's weird.
It's weird being an animal in today's society.
Do you get that a lot?
What do you mean?
What Dave is saying to you?
Do you get that a lot from people?
That mayhem went off the deep end?
I like it.
I like it.
You like that?
Yeah, listen, if you don't get it, if you don't get it, if you don't,
get me, if you're not a monkey, if you're not
mayhem, because we're all
mayhem, I'm not just mayhem, we're all
mayhem, we all have a bunch of stuff going on
in their life. If you don't get it, okay,
cool. I don't need you.
I'd rather have, like, a small
amount of Twitter followers that understand
what I'm talking about and really pay attention
than a bazillion
Kardashian followers. You know what I'm saying?
Dave, are you a Kardashian
follower, Dave? No.
Did you watch the porno with him?
multiple times
oh my goodness you're into black dudes
huh that's cool
no no no no no just
no that was
locked you up
next caller
Dave
anything else for me
him
nothing man just wish you the best
I hope
you know I have a gym on Long Island
maybe I could have you out
and uh
yeah let's do something on Long Island
Strong Island
Jeff Herod's from Strong Island
Where is it Dave
It's Pride Fitness and MMA
in Smithtown.
All right.
Smithtown.
Well,
hook him up.
He's on Facebook,
Twitter, all that good stuff.
Well, that's what you said.
Thank you for the call, Dave.
Appreciate it.
Howling you in New York for?
Thank you, guys.
Mayhem.
I will hit you up on Facebook.
You do, man.
Howling you in New York for?
Man, I have meetings in Los Angeles,
so I have to leave.
Oh, what do you got?
Man, I can't tell you.
I had to sign a non-disclosure agreement,
and it's like $10 million if I, like, talk about it.
So is it?
Just stop, okay?
But this is...
You know you're the best job.
Journalists in the business.
This is very interesting because a lot of people were very concerned that you wouldn't have life after MMA as far as opportunities.
You do.
Yeah.
You do?
Yeah.
I'm mayhem.
Has any...
I'm the real mayhem.
Any M.
Not the guy with the band-nees on his face.
I let my stabs out of the open.
Any MMA promotion contacted you?
Because I could see a few, I mean, I could get Mayhem Miller to fight for me.
No.
No.
No.
I don't.
I don't believe that.
I know.
They contacted me.
I don't respond.
So people have reached out to you
Yeah, of course
Big ones, like the Bellatories of the world
The World Series of Fightings of the World
That's the big one?
Well, obviously not the UFC
Why? Why not the UFC?
Well, because you were there
That was a year ago.
You know, it was exactly one year ago last week.
The company, the company hates me.
I don't think they hate you.
Oh, yeah.
I don't think they hate you.
That's all right.
Do you still feel animosity towards them?
No.
I mean, I just want to get my knee fixed.
Yeah.
You know, imagine the dude
the non-decision-making dude
who denied my knee
surgery.
Is it in the UFC?
Imagine him sitting at his chubby,
chubby,
like balding kind of guy
with,
no,
no,
we'll make him bald.
Bald guy
who's just all bitter at life,
just wishes
that he was living a better one.
Do you think he'll get it?
I'm angry.
Say,
nope,
mayhem,
you're hobbled.
I'm not going to fix your knee.
Imagine this guy
sitting in his office.
Do you think he'll get it?
What do you mean?
Do you think he'll get it?
get it.
Get what?
The knee surgery?
Yeah, I got money.
I'm going to buy it.
Come on.
I'm a smart investor.
When do you think all happen?
I don't know.
ASAP.
So you're not...
I'm looking for anybody
as an orthopedic surgeon in the house.
I'll pay you cash.
I got it in my back pocket.
You're not going to...
You're not coming back, right?
Coming back where?
M.MA.
To New York?
To fight.
Some things got to change around here, really.
Like what?
I don't know.
Have you considered it?
What do you mean?
Have you considered coming back?
If you're healthy?
Do you get that itch?
I like punching people on the face for sure.
I like choking people.
That's interesting.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yes.
31?
How old are you?
31?
Man, I'm timeless.
Wow, this is interesting.
I know, right?
What do you mean?
Because when I spoke to you maybe 10 months ago, you were done.
I am done.
It seems like you've opened that door a little bit.
What are you talking about?
You said I like punching people on the...
Yeah, I'll tell you what it is, man.
I'm going to go ahead and live my life to the fullest
because I've been blessed, blessed, blessed.
My family, man, I'm living on.
Borrowed time.
Really?
Yeah.
Why?
Because the Millers are the Millers.
We spread like wildfire.
We're out there.
We took over your suburbs.
Monkeys, animals, all of us.
But why borrow time?
Because Millers don't make it this long.
Are you kidding me?
Your dad's still around.
Yeah, I know.
Luckily, because he was at the first.
Iraq and not the second one.
He was in Desert Storm?
Yeah. Really? I didn't know that. Wow.
How come you never went into the military?
Yeah, exactly. Because I saw what he had to go through.
And I was like, I'm going to try my own thing.
Did he try to get you to go?
Well, yeah, of course.
Why? Because everyone said, man, Jason Miller, he's going to go to jail or the army.
Well, I stayed out of the army.
Smart? Happy about that?
Jail, different story.
Well, you know, I flirted with it here and there, messed up.
There's only that one time, though, right?
Yeah, I mean, come on.
That was a day.
Yeah, it was fun.
You got a taste, and that's all you needed.
Experience.
Experience.
Yeah.
Do you think I like you could do a good quick 30.
Yeah.
For like possession or something.
Stop and frisk.
They think you're Muslim.
Your take on the whole TRT situation in MMA.
What do you mean?
Would you do it?
Have you done it?
TRT?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
I put the cream on.
Yeah.
They have testosterone stuff.
house for on gel.
Really?
Yeah.
It's weird.
Are they still arguing about it?
Like, who's on it?
Yeah.
Everyone's arguing about it?
People are very upset that Vitor is on it.
He beat Luke Rockold.
Right.
Because he's...
He had kicked to Luke Rockold?
You saw that, right?
I didn't see it.
Oh, you didn't.
Oh, you didn't.
I heard about it.
I was like, oh, man.
Spinning heel kick.
Yeah, yeah.
I was sad that I didn't watch that fight.
I was like, oh, I didn't know Vitor's fighting.
Marketing didn't get through to me.
So you've taken it.
What kind of cream are you talking about?
No, I try.
Yeah.
take it.
It made me really irritable.
It made me really irritable.
That's not, yeah, it was.
Testosterone gel.
I put it on my arm.
But TRT is like,
like,
experiments.
TRT is like a thing
where you've got low testosterone
and you have to take these shots
once a week,
testosterone,
to get your levels up.
It's a whole different.
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
You, so.
They got it for your under arm,
man.
Come on.
You don't watch Fox News.
They have nothing but boner pills
and TRT commercials.
That's all it is.
Is that illegal?
Is that illegal?
In between Bill O'Reley.
illegal where to you like if you're about to fight would a commission allow you like did you tell the commission you were doing this what
i would never did it when i was fighting i'm talking about recently after fighting oh really yeah i just tried it
somebody had some on the thing i was like sweet let it work under arm man just made me agitated and made me break out
really yeah i think i yeah i think in your mma career you never took a p ed yeah hell yeah you did
What's that? A pedestrian.
Performance enhancing drug.
I mean, yeah.
You know, you take that, what do you call it, pseudafed?
Oh, my goodness.
Your career's over.
You could be...
I could do a bunch of drugs right now.
All right, let's do them, bro.
Where are they at?
What is that?
What is that?
What is that thing?
I'm from the future.
Is that a cigarette?
No.
What is it?
It's electronic.
I don't understand what it is.
It's a robot.
Is there really something in there?
Yeah.
What?
What is it?
Not really.
Man, Babel.
With that nose, you don't smell it.
This is like when Morn Downey Jr. was on the Piper's Pitch show and he smoked in his face.
Remember?
And then he brought out the extinguisher.
You don't remember that.
Honestly, what the heck is that?
What is that?
It's illegal.
Is it marijuana?
I'm going to be, oh, it's like a...
Just lay back, man.
It's like a smoke.
Feel ivory every day, man.
It's like a fruity smell.
That's what you said.
So in your...
Anyway, this interview is going awry, Aero Hwani.
Because, man, I haven't knocked your shit over that much.
No, no, no, please don't do that, please.
Everyone was angry at me, man.
I'm sorry.
I love you, America.
I love Aero Hwani.
How about the Bob Sapp Ceddy right over there?
Get out of here. Bob Sap has a CD.
Can we play some tracks from his latest album?
Do we have a track?
Brendan, cue it up, dude!
Okay.
In the meantime, let's go back to the phone lines before we say...
Because apparently it may have not having fun.
just said.
No, I'm having a blast.
Let's just crank it back up.
Going back to the phone lines?
Yes, Jimmy.
This shirt is awesome.
Thank you.
Jimmy on Long Island.
Oh, no, Staten Island.
Jimmy, are you there?
Yes, I'm here.
Hey, bud.
How are you?
Good.
I wanted to ask Mahan if there's anyone fighting today or from his days that he didn't get a chance
to fight that he would have liked to punch in the face and get a chance to beat up.
Man, the obvious answer, right?
Is Nick Diaz, right?
Because I was trying to get that fight a long.
time ago and we were all going back and forth and angry at each other or whatever.
I really, I think I understand Nick Diaz very well.
What do you mean?
Man, I think I can articulate some of the points that he's trying to make.
Like I'm like, I know what he's saying and expressing his frustration with his job and with,
you know, the way they've handled the promotion of him and the way they like carted him around
like the things he didn't want to do.
And I get it.
I get what he's trying to say.
He's trying to say that he doesn't feel, like, respected despite how big his accomplishments are.
He doesn't feel respected.
It doesn't feel like anyone's looking out for him.
Yeah.
He just feels like...
He had trouble paying his taxes?
Yeah, I know.
Yeah.
Well, I'm saying.
No one's looking out for him.
No one.
It's messed up.
Do you hear he's doing his own promotion now?
What?
You haven't heard this?
That's awesome.
Nick Diaz has a promotion that is called War.
I guess he did have some money to invest in something.
The first event is June 22nd.
put my jacket on. I got to get professional for this one.
Is it upside down? No. The first event is June 22nd in the Stockton Arena.
What? Big up to Stockton. Damn. And a lot of people were asking me to ask you,
would you ever consider fighting for Nick Diaz? Man, look, let me handle all my business.
Not fighting him. Fighting for his promotion. Oh, he's going to have a promotion.
He's going to be the guy standing in between the fighters, the way in. Get out of here.
Press conference. He's the promoter. He's the money. This is going to be the best show ever.
I'm very interested to see
You gotta go to Nick Deer
The 22nd of what?
Of June
22nd of June
20 second of June lock that in
You're gonna be on pay-per-view
Or only in Stockton Arena
You know that's an interesting question
On closed circuit television
It's like the hunger games up there
They're gonna try it
We're gonna eat each other's heads
That would be the ultimate sort of full circle moment
If you end up fighting for Nick Diaz's promotion
I don't know man
I might fight for Mayhem's promotion
Really?
Oh yeah
Would you start something like that?
We have the technology.
What do you mean?
Exactly.
We live in the future, dude.
Jimmy, anything else for Mayhem?
This guy was listening.
No, actually, that answer was much better than I thought I was going to get.
So thanks for that, Mayhem.
You're welcome.
And it's good to see you doing good post-fight career.
Man, I love you, brother.
And Ariel, I listen to every episode, so keep doing your thing.
And I wanted to ask you, what do you think is next the Big Nog when he beats Vergo?
When he beats Virgin?
I actually wanted to ask Maham about this.
You've trained with Verduim, right?
I trained with both those guys.
Yeah, that's right.
So what?
You know, they're fighting each other?
This weekend, again, they fought in probably 2006.
They're fighting in this weekend in Brazil.
Let me first ask ma'am, who do you think is going to win?
Well, I think on a, man, I think on a hunger level, you know, you always, like, hate to
I know what you're going to say.
Pick against your man, you know what I mean?
Nogera, I love this man.
He never goes away.
Yeah, never goes away.
And he's really tough, but I believe that it's kind of a.
Maybe like this, passing of the torch kind of thing.
I think so, just because, man, when I left King's MMA last, you know, I don't know, I stopped in,
and I just see how still hungry that Verdom is.
And I'm biased because, you know, I have a black belt from Verdom.
So I'm biased for sure.
Yeah, he gave me your black belt.
Yeah, he gave my black belt.
So, you know, it was an honor.
It was an honor to get a black belt from him because I never,
people offered me black belts before over and over throughout my career.
they kept offering me and I'm like nah nah nah but man verdum was like no you ought to get to your black
bow really yes sir ha ha ha that's you know I really respect his jiu jitsu and it is tremendous and
and you know so it was a real honor because we had been training together for that last year
and I guess you know to be able to impress him with my with my jihitsu technique was like a big
thing for me personally I was like oh man ver doom's awesome so I expect an exciting fight I
expect for doing to go kicks, go leg, leg kicks, body kicks.
Because, you know, as Nogera is trying to come forward with boxing technique,
I think he'll counter them with kicks.
And then, uh, and hopefully we get to have a little jiu jitsu fest.
Man, I'm going to see these two giant Brazilian snakes slithering all over each other,
musly snake men.
Are you going to watch it?
Yeah.
It's a Saturday.
It's a Saturday.
You had no idea that.
It's free too.
It's free.
You had no idea they were even fighting.
No.
I don't, I don't watch the sport, man.
I like do art.
man, I have a lot of other things that I'm doing.
You know, every once in a while, I all hold pads for the guys in Orange County.
And then when I teach seminars, you know, I go.
But for the most part, I'm out of it.
What's the matter?
Oh, thanks, boss.
When.
Now I feel fresh.
Where are you holding pads?
Man, Mayhem Manor.
At your house?
Yeah.
I still think.
I still maintain that you are one of top three, maybe even top two, best coaches in Ultimate
fighter history.
Nah.
I'm the best.
Okay, maybe you're the best.
No, here's why.
Because I thought that I was like, good.
But my guys had the highest winning percentage once they're out of there.
Yeah, the dudes that I coached in the house.
Yeah, I was like, wow, statistics.
That's awesome.
Refresh my memory.
They're all, they're like, you had Bermudez.
Bermudez.
Doing well.
You had Brando?
Brando?
Yeah.
No, no.
He was on the other team.
He was on the other team.
Yeah, yeah.
He came up to me and said, get on the team.
I want to be on your team.
And I was like, all right.
and they picked them.
I was like, oh, that's all right.
It's business.
But...
Still love you.
My point is, I feel like you can have a future doing it.
I mean, you can see...
So would you do that?
Would you open a gym?
Would you, you know, would you want to be a coach?
Look, man.
Every day is a winding road.
I get a little closer.
So, look, I'm just trucking through, man.
Just trucking.
I'm really enjoying my life right now.
And, yeah, I'll go around.
spit a few rhymes
teach people how to choke each other
you know
but I have a lot of other things to accomplish
Jimmy if you're still there
I think that I think Verdum next for him
you know it would be a fun fight maybe
Who do you think is going to win?
I'm going to go with Verdoom
and I'd like to see him by what?
Come on, let's get crazy
Decision
Decision
Yeah
Really?
Yeah I don't think you've
By the way
Verdooms
No I think Verdum can scramble
You think he's going to submit Big Nog?
Can.
Frank Mere did.
Yeah.
Frayneir is a big, big goon.
And I feel like Verdom is very like, he moves like a little guy.
Verduem's striking has really improved.
Yeah, I know.
I felt Cordero?
Yeah, Cordero, because, man, Cordero, man, he knows how to train fighters.
He'd been doing it forever.
And he drills these moves into these guys' head.
You can see it.
It's, you know, kind of like when I think of that place is like a,
craft studio.
They're doing the same thing over and over again,
so it sharpens it down.
So you do it, like Ellenberger in that last fight.
That was completely Rafael Cordero style.
Come forward with the punches, ding, ding, hooks, hooks, hooks.
You know, and, you know, it's cool to see that displayed through Ellenberger.
I watched that fight.
You're trying about his fight against the name Marquart.
Yeah, Marquard.
And Marquard, man, what a savvy veteran.
Like, what an awesome, tough guy.
but, you know, he got overwhelmed with punches.
Like the Rafael Cordero style, that King's MMA style,
coming forward with punches and kicks, come forward,
like tuck your damn chin and go bananas.
Shoot their box.
Shoot the box.
Shoot the boxy.
Shoot the boxy, blah.
Do you still go there?
Yeah, no, I mean, that's always going to be my gym.
I love those people over there.
I love them.
Why don't you be like an assistant coach or something?
Well, like I said, man, I'm a busy schedule guy right now.
Yeah, I know.
I would like to.
Yeah, but, nah, that's all right.
I'd like to see you in corners.
I'd like to see you bringing up youngsters.
Why?
I feel like you have a lot to give back.
I appreciate that.
No, honestly.
And I've said this to you privately, so I'm not just saying this on the air.
Yeah, no, I know.
To me, it's cool.
You're happy.
Yeah, I'm happy, yeah.
You know, I'll come back in due time.
When you say come back?
Well, I know.
I'll come back around more to the sport.
Right now, you know, I'm going to France to teach seminars.
Oh, cool.
I teach the Marines down in San Diego at the boot camp,
like all the instructors come for thing,
and I give a nice big seminar.
Jiu-jitsu only or M-M-M-A?
No, yeah, well, mixed martial arts.
I mean, combatives in the military,
and you require that, you know, you kind of get everything.
But for the last seminar,
I've heavily focused on some wrestling and jiu-jitsu,
like getting somebody to the ground quick and submitting them.
You know what I mean?
like like um because uh you know i hope they're never without weapon in a combat zone but you know
to effectively neutralize somebody and then uh submit them or you know put them in a choke it's a
good skill to have self-defense wise like you know especially in a combat zone you know if you have
to wrestle with somebody you better know some jihitsu know some wrestling it's um you know these guys
are America's heroes, like real heroes.
They got to go out and do the bidding of the government.
And so I want to support them as much as I can.
You know, they're supposed to do the will of the people.
When you're in these seminars, can you actually do this stuff?
Can you actually...
I mean, look, this past weekend in Granville, which I got to tell you about that place, it's crazy.
It's awesome.
Redneck Haven.
Not redneck credit.
But the rednecks do not have accents.
They don't have accents.
They have New York-ish, Canada-ish.
weird accent there's Sasquatch out there
Sasquatch is out there
I met him
I think I've gone through there
clean cut on the sides
blonde blonde Sasquatch
It's like six foot nine or something
But you can't actually get
Your hands dirty
You just kind of show
Yeah no I wrestled a little bit
Oh you did really
Yeah and I immediately was like
Oh no
I was like not let me
Let me just
Does it actually hurt when you walk?
Yeah
Geez
No
I trust me
I'm living it
Do you feel
Have you ever seen the movie
The Wrestler?
Do you feel like you're...
Yeah, I'm a broke down piece of me.
Do you feel like you're...
But I mean, I'm like young bug.
I'm just powering through.
I put the robot legs on.
I don't care.
Call me stupid.
I don't care.
I got free of my legs.
So I don't hurt myself.
And of course, I gave it so much to the sport.
I give him so much to the sport.
But King don't love me.
Don't.
Good, don't.
I'm happy you don't.
Why did they call you to do Fightmaster on Spike TV?
I don't know what the hell that is.
But it sounds hilarious.
What is that?
It's this new reality show where Joe Warren, Randy Gature, Greg Jackson.
Joe Warren? Wait a minute. Wrestling Joe Warren?
Yeah.
They're four-called.
Frank Shamrock, Greg Jackson, Randy Couture, Joe Warren.
And the fighters, as opposed to being picked by the coaches, like on Tough, the fighters pick the coaches.
32 fighters.
It spikes answer to Tough.
That's pretty cool.
Good for them.
That sounds like a good show format.
It starts in June.
And is who they have on there?
As far as prospects
No, who's the coaches?
Oh, I just told you.
I know, but you burned through him so fast.
Greg Jackson.
I was like, whoa, wait!
Greg Jackson.
I love that guy.
Randy Couture.
Yeah.
Frank Shamrock.
Nice.
Joe Warren.
Joe Warren?
I love Joe Warren.
One of these things is not like the other.
Yeah.
He's man, more intense to me.
There's some interesting, like Joe Riggs is a contestant on the show.
Diesel Joe.
Hey, man.
Mix martial arts there, pal.
Let's go to one more phone.
call and then we will say goodbye.
Let us say hello to Ivan
in Austin, Texas.
Ivan, are you there?
Yes, this is me.
Hey, bud.
What's going on?
Well,
nothing much.
Actually, taking a break from work.
I just wanted to ask.
He means he's taking a dump.
He's in the bathroom.
He's in the bathroom stall taking a dump.
That's what it is, because that's why his phone's all blurred.
Go ahead, bud.
Man, we'll take that tinfoil hat off your head.
No, no, I'm sorry.
I'm just joking, man.
You're flustering him.
Let him ask his question.
Calm down, everybody.
Don't yell at me.
I'm going to hear both of your take on the growth of MMA.
I'm here in Austin, huge Latino community here in Texas.
I just feel like the Latino community here in Texas have really like adopted it.
Yeah.
Not just the sport, but, you know, a lot of the fighters, like King Belasquez.
Yeah.
I mean, it's a big deal, and I feel like I think it's unnoticed.
I notice a lot of times
by, I guess,
reporters and stuff like that, because
I don't see many people highlighting
the fan base,
I guess, in the...
Well, bro, it's because they're ignoring us.
They're ignoring the animals.
But we're out there,
and we're fighting each other in cages.
You live in California, you see much more of a, you know,
predominance.
And the humans don't want to see it. The humans don't want to see it.
Why don't they want to see it? I don't know. They don't.
They don't.
No, I just feel like, we want to hide it.
You know, like, it's kind of capitalized on the Latino fan base, you know, having huge fights on our holidays.
Yes, I think that it's slowly coming along.
You heard that they signed a deal with Televisa in Mexico, which is bigger than Fox.
They're going to have four shows.
UFC did?
And they own everything.
They're going to have a 24-hour UFC channel, like a premium cable channel.
Dispesto super sabato gigante.
I'm familiar with Televisa.
Yeah, Telvisa.
That's a big deal.
Man, univision is way better, man.
So the UFC has always thought, the UFC has always thought that get the TV, get the TV coverage of the exposure, and then...
El Gordo and La Flaca.
Yeah.
Then you can get it all.
Exactly.
Yeah.
Exactly.
All right, my man.
Yeah, well, I guess just another question will be, what are you?
what are your feelings on
Kane Velazquez
and the way he handles himself
as champion?
He's a ninja!
The Latino fighters.
The Latino ninja!
Do you like Kane Velasquez?
I think he's awesome, man.
I was asking Mahan.
Kane Velazquez does the job
that other fighters don't want to do.
That's what I'm talking about.
He's a real American hero.
He is, right?
What do you mean by that?
Just works.
Just works.
How to hiccup?
Came back from it twice as strong.
That's true.
Kane Velazquez all day.
There's a big lesson to be learned there.
Isn't it?
Isn't it?
Cane Velasquez.
I like Kane a lot.
I think he's very marketable.
I think people, I think Kane has a more...
I love Kane Velasquez doing those commercials.
I saw that.
Metro Psy-A.
Man, what a well-spoken gentleman.
Kane has a more loyal...
He has a more loyal following than John Jones.
I feel like people think he's authentic.
I feel like people have a connection to Kane Velasquez.
He represents the people.
He comes out with the Mexican flag on his fist.
I think he's a good...
ambassador for that community. I agree.
I wholeheartedly. As soon as I met him, I knew that.
And then when I wrestle with him, I was like, oh man, this guy
dude is going to be champion. When was that?
AKA a couple years ago.
Really? Yeah, I was like, damn, this dude would be champion.
Because he rolls like a dude who's really light,
but he's heavy and huge.
Like, he, like, you know, it's a, he understands the language of grappling
better than, you know, better than most anyone.
Like, it's beautiful to watch him roll and to wrestle with them.
Like, it's like, he chain wrestles the whole time.
Yeah, and no big guys do that.
Big guys like to get lazy and just like, you know, stop and hold.
Nah, he's moving, moving, moving, working, working, working, working.
Mexican style.
Mexican style, just non-stop working.
Best heavyweight in the world?
Well, just because I feel like he's quicker than everybody.
Who knows, though, right?
His buddy trains with him.
Man.
Yeah, Daniel Cormier.
That's the best heavyweight fight that could be put on, but they don't want to fight each other.
Give them a bunch of money.
Make those dudes.
super rich so their family are rich
Do you think Kormier wins? I don't know.
These guys probably know each other so well.
I'll tell you who wins, the fans win.
Yeah, because these guys probably know each other
so well, like from the room.
If they're training together all the time, you know,
you have to like separate them
and like go, nah, you guys
don't see each other for a few
months so you can figure out some new
stuff because, you know, if you
in the room all the time, you know what the guy does.
You know, it's like a totally different
totally different experience than it would be fighting a guy that you just saw on YouTube.
Right.
Yeah.
See, you still know the sport.
You still got it.
What do you mean?
I just know, yeah, I know the important dudes.
Come on.
After all these years.
It's been one year.
All right, man.
Oh, Wani?
Thank you very much for the call, Ivan.
Any parting words, mayhem.
What do you mean?
Any parting words to the people.
Buy a T-shirt.
Buy a T-shirt.
I'm going to go down on 100, wait, what avenue are you?
40 what that what's that part called oh where the shows are there and hang out 40th and 6th

Look at you.
Shout out to Joe Koy.
Yeah, shout up to Alex.
You got a blog and everything.
Yeah, man, we do business.
Art meets fashion, bro.
Art meets fashion.
It's good to see you.
I hope you get the surgery.
I will.
I appreciate you stopping by.
Yeah, man.
You must be hot in that blazer.
No, I feel professional now.
This alligator hat is really what's making things hot.
Yeah.
That's right.
But a pimp got to eat.
Thank you for everything.
Thank you for stopping by.
He is Mayhem Miller.
I'm a robot.
I think we'll see more of mayhem.
You think so?
Slowly but surely you're coming back.
You're going to invite me back after this?
I'm not sure about that.
I know, right?
What is that?
Someone said it's an electric cigarette.
It makes me uncomfortable.
You got a drug test coming up?
Cage Warriors had an event this past weekend, and Cahall Pendred was victorious.
He defeated Shea Mills in the third round, and the question is, was that enough to get him into the UFC?
He wants it.
He wants to fight in Boston.
He's pushing for it.
We don't know if it's going to happen just yet.
after the show, SevereMMA.com, my good friends over in Ireland at SeveremMA.com,
they interviewed Connor McGregor, our good pal, Connor McGregor, and the interviewer is Andrew
McGahan, if I'm pronouncing that name correctly.
You just, he is dismantling.
No, no, don't do that to Shogun.
You could do it to yourself.
Oh, this Shogun?
I think that's one of the worst.
That does not look like Shogun, really.
I think this is one of the best.
Did you like this one?
Man, no.
Look at that.
It didn't look like you at all.
Anyway, Connor McGregor did an interview with Severe M.
MMA.com. It's a fun interview. We even get a name drop at the end. I told him we'd play the interview.
It was very good. It's Connickrigger talking about Kyle Pendred, and it's him also talking about his upcoming fight against Andy Ogle, August 17. Check that out. We'll be back.
In a matter of seconds on the M.A. hour, we're answering your questions next.
So there he is. Connor McGregor with severe M.A. saying the Irish Ariel Hawani, but then Andrew is saying that he wants to be bigger and better.
And how about the shot at my nose? Regardless, a fun interview that was this past weekend at K.
Warriors in Dublin, Ireland. Nice little card.
Kyle Pendrad, as I mentioned, winning.
Connor McGregor, one of a kind. He is fighting Andy Ogle in Boston.
UFC on Fox Sports 1 on August 17th.
As far as the rumors of Chale Sunnan versus Shogunhuah at UFC 161, nothing to report,
checked in on the situation.
Not a done deal just yet, as I'm being told.
But hopefully for the Winnipeg fans, if that happens, holy moly, Chail Sunnon fighting
on less than two weeks notice
after he fought
John Bones-Jones
at UFC 159, April 27th.
That would be big.
I don't know.
What kind of shape is he in?
Hopefully you'll get to hear
from him first on UFC tonight,
tomorrow night at 10 p.m. Eastern
on Fuel TV.
I believe we have a phone call.
Do we still have them on the line, New York, Rick?
No, we don't have any callers.
Oh, there's no one there.
All right.
I thought we had someone on the line.
check your chat no I know but I thought you said you couldn't hear him yeah try calling him one more
time okay uh Skylar Aston our famous Hollywood friend Skylar Aston was trying to call him he wanted to
talk about Shogun versus Chale and we were having some trouble reaching him if we do great if not
we will go to your questions thank you very much to Maham Miller for stopping by and defacing our
mayhem toy he also knocked down Matt Sissue.
Sarah, what do you think of Mayhem Miller?
What is your take?
Do you feel like he's back to the old Mayhem Miller?
It feels like
it feels like the jury's out on this mayhem Miller.
I felt like he's slowly creeping back to the mayhem of yesterday year
as I give him your correct number that he needs to call.
But that's just me.
I enjoy mayhem.
I think, as I mentioned, he gave a lot to the sport
and it's unfortunate about his knee situation.
You know, you never know.
with the insurance. Other promotions don't, don't insure their fighters. So it's hard to truly
criticize when something doesn't go as plan. And, you know, we don't know what the, we don't know
the full story. We don't know what happened when he met with the doctors, the paperwork and all
that stuff. So you kind of feel weird weighing in on that, but you hope he gets healthy. And I do
believe, as I told him, maybe a couple months ago when we spoke on the phone, he has a lot to give
the sport. I think he was one of the best, if not the best coach, in Ultimate Fighter history. And,
And if he sort of gets it together and focuses on being that kind of coach,
I think he can help a lot of guys.
Consider the people he's trained with over the years.
I think he would be a huge asset to an up-and-coming fighter to a guy trying to take it to the next level,
all that stuff.
This is a man who was just seconds away from submitting Jake Shields.
When Jake Shields was Jake Shields, considered one of the best fighters in the world,
had that unbelievable winning streak.
That was an elite XC middleweight title fight.
and if that round lasted five more seconds,
ten more seconds,
if that round lasted, you know,
just a few more seconds,
Maham Miller would have been the champion.
He had him in the rear naked choke.
He was very close,
but unfortunately that's how these things go
in mixed martial arts.
Do we have our caller or should we just...
Nope, same deal.
All right, forget it.
Forget it.
Before we get to the questions,
let's officially give the update.
on the Rick's Fit situation, UFC Fit.
Sure.
Last week on the show, you were approached, you were, you were kind of called out by one Mike Dolce.
Correct.
And you decided to do it.
They sent us the UFC Fit, right?
Correct.
You tried it.
Were you hesitant or were you all in?
Oh, I'm all in.
You're all in.
I went.
I got it on Thursday, I believe.
So I thought I was like, oh, okay, I'll start it on Friday.
but I didn't have any of the like necessary ingredients.
My diet is full of like, you know, bad starches, bad carbs, things like that.
So I had to go out and get a lot more fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grain stuff.
I bought a blender.
As opposed to not fresh vegetables, right?
Well, I don't eat any vegetables.
Oh, period.
And if I eat fruits, it's like grapes.
So I had to get more green stuff.
and I had to, and I bought a blender so that I could, you know, make smoothies and stuff like that.
And then I started on Sunday, started yesterday.
And when you're doing this, I mean, do you feel like this is beneath you?
Do you feel like this is kind of silly to be doing something like this or are you engaged?
What do you mean beneath me?
Like, no, I don't think it's silly.
Okay, okay, I'm just asking, geez.
Why are you so defensive?
I'm not getting defensive.
I actually, what do you mean, like, is it beneath me?
Well, you know, you're doing this thing where you're like,
And, you know, and I don't really know much.
I haven't done it.
But, like, you feel kind of silly doing it.
No, no.
I mean, it's a workout.
I'm trying to get the average Joe who's thinking, who's on the fence.
You're trying to get him to do it, to commit to it.
Hey, if New York Rick can do it.
If he thinks it's not silly, then I can do it too.
Well, here's what I would say about it.
And I've only done the first workout.
So, you know, this is my experience from that is it's good for all skill levels, really,
because Mike takes you through the exercises.
they don't last like the repetitions of each doesn't last an amount of time that somebody can't do.
So anybody can do it for the amount of time that the exercises last.
It's just about how good your form is going to be and how many reps you're going to be able to do in that time.
But I'd say that it's good for almost anybody, honestly.
It's really encompassing.
Seven days a week?
Six.
You get one rest day.
One rest day, six days a week.
You're doing it all in 45 minutes a day.
Yeah.
Correct. And the diet, which is 24 hours a day.
Dang.
That's the hard part for me.
The workout was tough.
Like I'm feeling it today in my legs mostly.
But it's a good feeling, right?
It's a feeling of sort of accomplishment.
It's the feeling of what happens when you get a good workout in.
Right.
But the diet part, that's going to be rough for me.
But I'm with it.
I'm sticking to it.
All right.
Well done.
Keep us posted.
And give us some kind of, you know, I don't know,
just give us some kind of indication that you're doing this.
A photo.
You have?
Oh, yeah.
I tweeted out photos yesterday.
Oh, really?
Yes, sir.
You tweeted photos of you doing this?
Not photo.
I tweeted photos of the gear.
Well, that doesn't tell us that you're actually doing it.
Of my meals.
Of my meals.
Really?
Yeah.
Don't go too crazy on the meals.
Yeah, I'm not one of those people.
I'm not crazy about selfies, food pictures.
I'm not really like an amateur photographer.
Right.
Of that sort.
Or just an annoying photographer.
Yeah, no, that's not my style.
Gosh, one of the worst things about social media is that.
I don't care.
I don't want to see what you're eating.
I don't want to see what we look like.
I don't want to hear about you going to the gym.
Just give me something interesting or don't give me anything at all.
For this, I understand because it's part of the show.
It's a little thing that we're doing.
But by the way, have you noticed on the MMA be,
the rally for New York Rick is starting to heat up again?
I don't blame them.
You kind of let them down with the Rick's Picks Challenge.
And they went quiet, but now here they are back.
The people know what they want.
They do.
It'll happen.
I'm going to complete this UFC fit thing.
I'm going to knock it out of the park and then it'll happen.
Give Scholar one more call since he texted me.
He texted me, give me one more chance.
And if not, then we'll go to the questions.
All right, just hang tight.
All right.
You heard over the weekend that Alexander Gustafson says that he's, in his opinion,
very close to getting a title shot against Johnny Bones Jones.
That will be very interesting.
I wonder if anyone asks about that.
Because where does that leave Mr. Liotomachita?
He gets promised the title shot twice.
No title shot.
I do agree that the more interesting and fresh matchup right now is Gustafsson.
How long will take for John Jones to be out after seeing the doctor?
He tweeted last week decisions.
We're not sure.
But it's clear that he's sitting on some kind of decision
because he hasn't made anything public, neither has the UFC.
Now, let me tell you about the prize for this week.
Best question of the day.
Here's the info.
You get a 2013.
Okay, that's not working.
Do you have the box over there, the prize?
Mr. Rick?
I'm sorry, I was on the phone.
Say again?
Do you have the prize back there?
No, I don't have the physical one to hold up.
Where the heck is it?
Brendan?
Where is it?
It's a Brendan.
Jeez.
They sent it to us.
Don't have it.
Could we try to get it at some point throughout this process?
I'll have Brendan get it for me.
Okay.
Tell us about the price.
Let me tell you about it.
The prize today is the 2013 UFC knockout box from Tops.
Each box contains eight mini boxes.
And in each mini box, you get five cards.
So you're getting 40 cards.
And then on each of the five cards inside the mini boxes, there will be an autograph.
memorabilia or autograph and memorabilia on the same card.
Oh.
So you're guaranteed in each box, two autographs, two autographs,
two autograph memorabilia cards, and four memorabilia cards,
which the memorabilia includes gloves, UFC mats, or, you know, gear,
the fight shorts, the shirts from the fighters.
That's pretty cool.
Yeah, it's pretty awesome.
You get the box with the mini boxes inside.
Crazy.
All right, here we go.
That's at stake.
We'll show to you.
We do have it.
We appreciate Tops for hooking us up.
Did he mention that each box has a SRP of $160?
I don't want them to salivate too much.
You don't want to...
Okay.
Okay, so actually, before we go to the ones that are eligible,
let's do the website questions first.
First question.
Costa Filippu leaving Serralongo fight team.
Do you think he made the right choice,
or do you think he had better options like moving weight class?
Well, honestly, you know, everyone's saying that on good terms, everyone thinks that it's, that it's cost of leaving because of Chris Wyman, you know, Belmore kickboxing is very close. They share talent. You saw it right here on the show, John Valante, Chris Wyman, their pals. One's at Belmore. One's at Sarah Longo. They still train together. So I don't know. I don't know what the story is. I tried to reach out to Ray Longo. He didn't get back to me. I reached out to Lex McMahon, Costa Philadelphia.
was manager. You know, he told me about the situation saying no hard feelings. Matt Sarah also said
no hard feelings. I mean, obviously when someone leaves, there's a reason for it. I think Chris,
his sarcastic comment might have alluded to, you know, no big deal. But I honestly, you know,
we talked to Costa Filipu before the Tim Boch fight. That was his last fight. And he said, in his mind,
he was very far away from a title shot. I don't think he's leaving. I think the timing was just a
coincidence. I don't think he's leaving because he thinks that he's eventually going to fight Chris Widman next.
I don't view it that way.
That's just me.
Our next question.
This is alluding to an interview you did with Anthony Pettis.
How legendary would it be if Anthony Pettis follows up his WEC,
WEC lightweight title win over Benson Henderson with the Showtime kick by defeating Josealdo for the UFC featherweight title with the 540 showtime kick?
On the morning report this morning, done by the great Sean Alshadie over at M.AFighting.com,
someone took that clip.
That was something that we did for Fuel TV, Octo questions.
The highly popular Octo questions.
And I asked Showtime, do you have a special move in your arsenal that you have not shown us yet?
And he said it was the 540 kick.
Someone put that clip and then put a 540 clip at the end.
And it's just an amazing thing.
And to think that Anthony could do that in a fight and I believe him, if he pulls that off against Josealdo,
it's legendary.
That's part of the reason why I really wanted to see the Benson fight.
because you can show that showtime kick, if you will, over and over again.
This is a guy who has a lot in his arsenal.
He pulled it off in the biggest fight of his life in the last WC fight
in the last WC round won the belt, never got his UFC title fight.
It's Benson's last loss.
Don't let me all have worked up about this fight again.
I'm sorry to get over it because of T.J. Grant, but still, I want to see it.
Imagine he would have pulled it off against Benson.
That would have been even crazier.
But yes, I think it would be insane if you pulled that off.
doing it someone like Aldo might be tough, but if he did it,
sweet baby Jesus, that'd be nuts.
Before we go to our next question, we're going to try and get Skyler on Skype.
Skype? We're doing Skype.
Yeah, that might be able to work out.
Okay, but what about the rest of the website questions?
Well, the computer's in use.
As you know, I handle that, so...
You do everything.
Yeah. Actually, if we could cut to my camera for a second,
we have the picture of the UFC.
There we go.
There it is.
This is the top set that you're going to win today.
Nice, this big, eight mini packs in here.
That's a lot.
That is awesome.
Okay.
Do you want to throw out one question so I could talk about the, so I could get this chain rolling?
Yeah, because it might take a while, right?
Let me read one off for you.
All right.
This question's about Yariah Hall.
If Yoriah Hall doesn't beat Nick Ring in his next fight,
will the hype that surrounded him be lost for good?
Also, do you think the UFC is giving him a fighter who will enable his specific skills to shine,
like on the ultimate fighter?
No, I think he's getting the right kind of matchup.
He needs to work his way up.
That fight's taking place Fox Sports 1, August 17th, in Boston.
I think it's the right kind of matchup.
He lost the show.
You know, Gasslam, who defeated him,
teasing that he's going down to 170,
which is the right move.
Curious to see who they match him up with.
But that seems like a fair fight for Erya Hall.
You've got to build the guy back up.
I think if he loses to Nick Ring,
I don't think he'd get cut.
I think if he lost the next one, he would get cut.
but I think
Uriah Hall is going to win that fight
I think maybe not being on the main card
not getting the attention not getting the buzz
you know that's expected to be
obviously a very big card for the UFC
thus far as far as the main card goes
we know about Brown and Overeem
but we don't know about the main event just yet
and you know we'll wait and see
about if there's going to be a big co-main event fight
involving a Chale Sunnan
the point is
he's going to fly out into the radar
he's not going to get the same kind of attention
that he received
going into the tough finale.
So I think it's a good fight for him.
I think it makes sense.
And I expect him to win.
If he loses this one, I don't think he'll be out.
If he loses the next one, I do think he'll be out, in my opinion.
Here's our next one from the website.
Sure.
This one's titled Prime versus Prime.
What do you think of fighters like T-Dor-Tis thinking they can beat John Jones in their prime
or more recently, Chuck Liddell thinking he can beat Anderson-Silva and his
prime. My question or my answer to that is, what do you expect them to say? Do you really expect
T. Ortiz to say, I'm going to lose to this guy? Do you really expect Chocoladale to say I'm going
to lose to this guy? Do I think they would beat them or beat him? No. I think John Jones is
way more well-rounded than both of them ever were. But I don't expect them to say anything else.
I'm always surprised when people, it's like when you, when you, when you, well, this one's
little different because people were asking the 92
dream team if they could beat the
U.S. Olympic team last year in the Olympics
and the old guys, the 92
team, were better than the young guys.
This is the opposite, right?
But the point is, both of them are going to say they're going to win.
These are athletes. They're obviously going to
say they're going to win. They obviously believe they're going to win. They obviously
think that they're better.
So it doesn't really...
I don't really get all
crazy about that. And speaking of Tito, you know,
I know there was kind of an ugly
episode with his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his children, Jenna Jameson, last week, end of the week.
Jenna was on the Abe Canaan show on Sirius XM. I've been on their show on Howard 101.
I kind of feel bad. You know, it just, it makes me sad the whole thing. I don't even feel like I retweeted something and then I deleted it.
At the end of the day, these are parents. They have two kids. And even when she was on the show talking about it,
it felt like she almost felt bad a day later,
which makes you wonder what kind of state she was in
when she was tweeting this stuff.
And it felt uncomfortable to listen to,
throwing out a bunch of accusations and all this stuff.
It's just, you don't want to see that play out.
I just wish, just let it go.
If they're in a bad place,
for your children, just let it go.
Not trying to preach or anything like that,
but it just kind of makes me sad.
Being a father now, and I see that,
it just, I just feel bad, you know,
that that stuff has to play out in public.
and hopefully they can figure it out.
My take on that whole ugly episode,
that tweeting episode late last week involving Tito and Jenna.
Okay, here's our last one from the website.
Matt's Better Walk in the Park scenario.
Matt's Sarah in Long Island.
Oh, yeah.
Nick Diaz in Stockton,
Connor McGregor in Boston or Ireland,
or Mike Ritchie and Rory McDonald's at McDonald's.
Wow.
Wow. Wow. Matt Sarah. Okay, I'm going to drop Sarah because he made fun of the walk and talk. He actually made fun of it when we were, I was saying, I want to come out to Long Island. I want to do something a little longer with you. He's like, oh, something like a walk in the Central Park and he threw out like that emoticon of like a pile of steaming poo and a thumbs down. I took that as a slap in the face. I'm going to, I still want to do it. Maybe not in the park.
or anything like that.
So I'm going to just exclude him from this little game.
I'm going to exclude Rory and Ritchie.
Gosh, that would be fun.
That would be fun.
But then is Connor Nick?
This is tough.
This is a tough question.
I think I may go with Nick only because he's like the unicorn.
I don't really think at this point it's ever going to happen.
I've tried to make it happen.
I've tried to reach out.
I don't think he really wants it to happen.
I think walking around.
in the streets of Stockton, Nick Diaz,
because he was kind of the first one
that I thought about doing this with,
I think I'd have to go with him first.
Connor and Ireland would just,
I don't even know what to expect there,
but is Connor bigger than Aurora or Sarah?
At this point in his career, not sure.
I think I'd have to go Nick, Connor,
the Ritchie McDonald combo, and then Matt Sarah.
Nick has to be.
And by the way, you don't mention this,
but one that I really want to do
is BJ in Hawaii.
I think that would be a lot of fun.
on, especially today.
What's going on with BJ?
Retire or no retire?
It would be great if for like six months, I could do one of those a month.
It's just tough with the schedule.
It's tough to all the fights and everything like that.
It's tough to actually carve out the time to do that.
But I do love doing those.
We finally have Mr. Skyler Aston on the line.
Do we have him there?
You got him, Ariel.
Do we have him?
You should.
I can hear you just.
Scholar, you know, we don't carve out so much time for regular Joe Schmo Collars.
We've been devoting the last 20 minutes of our manpower to getting you on the show here.
Do you appreciate this?
I appreciate it.
I'd also like to let you know that I just rescheduled a meeting myself.
I don't believe.
Now you're just trying to make me feel guilty.
I believe it.
It's actually not a meeting, but I don't want to sound too girly.
But I actually have a fitting to get a suit made for a premiere.
and I change it from 1.30 Pacific to 2 o'clock.
Look at you, Mr. Hollywood.
We actually see you now on the Skype over there.
You're wearing what appears to be a pink or a mauve shirt.
It's red.
It's red.
Close.
And this is an Indiana Hoosier's hat that I'm wearing.
Now, I like how you mentioned the premiere.
You always have to remind us that you're just a little more cooler than we are.
Yeah.
This is coming from a guy that just like rescheduled
So it could be on the MMA hour
So I'm just as much of a fanboys do
I know, I know
So what's on your mind, Skyler?
We haven't talked to you in a while
In a while, what has it been?
Maybe two months or so
We were in our other studio
Last time we talked to you
Right, a lot of improvements been made
Which brought me out for a second time
I uh
I will, we've been in touch a little bit informally
And I just texted you about
The Shogun
Possibility of Fighting Jail Sunan
Now I have two follow-up questions about that
that question. First off, you know I'm doing the show. If you're really that big of a fan,
if you're really watching, why would you text me in the middle of the show and you know there are no
breaks? Are you trying to throw me off my game? That would be like me asking you a question in the
middle of a Broadway musical and saying, hey, what do you think about the Knicks game tonight?
I mean, is it really appropriate to text someone in the middle of his soliloquy as he's trying
to craft what is known to be one of the greatest podcasts available today?
Yes.
Well, if you asked me a question during a Broadway show, I would answer it in song and give you the Act 1 finale.
But I wouldn't complain about it either.
But anyway, I was calling because I just, I followed Chale on Twitter.
And I saw that he was calling out Shogun, and I knew you were doing the show, but I figured I'd ask you because I think it's an interesting matchup.
You like it?
I love it.
I've been watching Chale, you know, fight the, I.
arguably some of the pound-for-pound tops in the world.
And I would like to see him fight a number five.
I don't know what Shogun's rank, like, fifth or six or something,
but I think it's a great fight for Chale.
And I want to see him face a real light, heavyweight, you know,
prospect and not the champion right away.
But on less than two weeks notice, that feels like we're not going to get the real deal.
Chale says, like, I used to be a wrestler and show up the morning of,
not knowing who I'd fight.
and that's his thing.
Like, I'm a fighter.
I'm a fighter, Ariel.
You know what I mean?
So, like, I'll see him fight.
That actually sounded like him.
Another show, I like to say, you know,
Vanderlite, no, Anderson, you have to understand this about Anderson.
He does not have heart, you know?
That's kind of good, right?
Ariel, do you understand that they fed a carrot to a horse?
There it is.
And it was kind of funny because people were making fun of the Nogara situation
when he got injured yesterday,
and here he is Chal Sondon
campaigning for this fight.
I still don't feel like
we're going to get the best
Chal Sondon,
and that's why I'm hesitant
to have this fight
at 161,
maybe a little later down
in the road,
but then I feel bad for
the Winnipeg fans
because they're going to lose out
on another big fighter on the card.
Exactly.
And you also got to go figure
you don't want Sondon
to risk a three-fight losing streak.
That would be terrible.
What would happen then?
That's the cut list,
but never for the company man.
But, I mean,
you know,
fight losing streak who that's that's rough he might retire you know what i mean is he your favorite
fighter yeah is he your favorite fighter jail yeah well i did do an interview with him that's right
for 21 and over i don't know if you saw that i did see you so we have personal friendship and i actually
met him i know i'm dropping this name a lot but uh we expect that at you what we expect that out of you
don't worry about it hey uh you know i'm a common guy but i mean i met him at you have c
on Fox 4 as a fan, as a total fan.
And we talked about
Shogun versus Vera and
Bader versus Machita, how
Dana was saying at the time
the person who looks the best is going to get this shot.
Yes.
Now, obviously that didn't happen
for any of them due to circumstances.
Yes.
And when I saw Chale,
he was getting ready for the Jones fight.
And I said, you told me that night,
which is true, that none of these clowns
will fight Jones
and I'm next for Jones.
And that was, I don't even, I mean, if you think of the timeline, that's a ridiculous thing.
He said that he wasn't certain at all of that fight, but it's crazy that it ended up happening that way.
How do you have time to follow all this stuff?
Aren't you like a busy guy in Hollywood actor doing all these projects?
How do you have time to sit around and find out that Chale and Shogun might fight each other?
What exactly are you doing over there?
I told you, I'm getting ready for a meeting.
And wait, can you definitely see me on video?
Yes, you think I was joking about your shirt?
Oh.
Marisi
Wow, look at that.
There he is.
Is he your favorite fighter?
I got that
Coozy on Fox 4.
Is he your favorite fighter?
He stole it out of the Fox Suite.
Oh, really?
Yeah, that's how much of a fan I am.
I walked out of the Staples Center
with a poster of Shoga.
Who wins that fight?
I got to see
Chale win that fight.
Really?
I want to.
I want to win.
Okay, all right.
I haven't seen him.
win decisively in years.
I mean, the Bisping fight, everyone knows that that was like arguably, you know,
Bisping likes to say that Chale like whispered to him in the end of the octagon that, you know.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well, it's just ridiculous.
I don't think that actually happened.
But, you know, it's a very chale thing to say, though.
Yeah, I'd say his last decisive win, dominant win was Brian Stan on 136.
Oh, for sure, for sure.
We're about to go to 160 here.
No, 161.
That was a long time ago.
That's what I'm saying.
It's 30 paper views ago.
You want to, I mean, I'm terrible at math, 25.
But you got to, yeah, you got to see Chale win.
I want to see Chale win.
Because it's so funny to watch Chale talk all that crap and then be so gracious and defeat.
Yeah, well, that's Chale for you.
And he handles it well.
He was on UFC tonight.
I love that.
Yeah.
Let me ask you.
They're just buddies.
He's like, yeah, I think you got that, buddy.
That's all you.
Yeah, you got it.
Antonio, no, Antonio, Antonio, no,
Garre versus Fabrice Over Doom this Saturday on Fuel TV.
Who are you picking?
It's weird because they're both such heroes in Brazil.
And I would love to be there to feel like, I think Big Nag still owns, you know, the
legacy, the Brazilian legacy, right?
Sure, sure.
People love him.
But I know, like, Fabrizio Verdom does, doesn't he do commentating for UFC Brazil?
He does it for actually UFC Español.
He actually speaks Spanish.
Right. So, I mean, it's like he's kind of a, they're both have such broad appeal. And I know you ask me who's going to win the fight.
Yes, yes. Sometimes that factors into it if someone's like fighting more for their home.
Gosh, that's really hard. They're both going to have the crowd on their side and they both are such dynamic fighters.
I guess I give it to Verdoom.
I agree.
Verdoom by decision.
And your dog agrees.
I said Verdoom by decision too.
You just said that because you heard me say it like 30 minutes ago.
You know, I actually wasn't watching a show until I was trying to get on it today.
I was going to watch the repeat.
I'm sorry.
I've just been outed.
Boy, your brother's going to be pissed that you're on the show.
My brother's going to be what?
Your brother's going to be pissed that you're on the show.
No, are you kidding?
He loves it.
I'm kidding.
We're like together.
Milan, the man.
I'm listening.
What's up?
I said Milan's the man.
Milan is the man.
Milan, the Milan moment is going to return.
And by the way, sometimes when you say my name, it's like Scholar, but it's Skyler.
Well, I say Skyler Aston.
Skyler Aston.
I want to hear like that diphthong.
Okay.
I'm sorry.
How do you say my name?
Uriel Hawini, right?
Exactly.
You've been quietly calling out some other guests that I've been on this show before,
saying that you can do things that they can do better.
Are you ready to come publicly out with this call out?
or are you still working on your game plan?
You think I could be regular on this show?
I would love to.
No, no, no, that's not what I said.
Other people, you claim that other people,
you know what I'm saying?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Are you ready to...
I think that he's up to the challenge.
I think he's taking the time to reinvent himself.
And I think there's a real void for his kind of energy.
So are you...
We're talking about the Milan moment.
No, no, we're not.
talking about prebeck.
Oh, okay.
Impersonations. You say that...
The thing you have to understand, Ariel, is the new studio, everybody knows the landscape
of mixed martial arts. It's been around for years. I follow judo. Obviously, I'm a world
champion. And everybody knows that the dynamic of the offspring of UFC, and everybody
knows Dana. We know Dana likes to go crazy. But I was having a Google chat the other day.
And I just find it really interesting that Anderson thinks he can be the new
the new Dana White and the landscape of that.
I don't know.
You put me on the spot.
I didn't actually prepare anything.
Wait, wait, wait.
New York, Rick, are you there?
I'm here.
Do you know who he was imitating?
Was that Luke?
Yes.
Was that Luke Thomas?
That was a good one.
Yeah, that was a big.
I mean, like, I want to join Forrestes with Prebeck and make like an MMA beat,
uh, MMAP video.
And I could do Luke and maybe even like a Chiapeta.
Wow.
that would be incredible. You work on that and let us know.
I will. I mean, I'm open to comments, although that was a bit of a pointless ramp.
No, that was good. That was good. I felt it. And look, I didn't tell a New Yorkerick you're doing it and he nailed it.
It's one minute before your meeting. So we'll let you go.
It's really, okay. Yeah, I should probably get.
Your fake meeting. Just to pretend like you're doing anything important here.
And by the way, I didn't even have time to shower. So I'm going to be trying on suits like.
Oh, it's a fitting.
Look at you.
It's a fitting for a premiere.
Where are you going?
What?
Where are you going?
Which premiere?
The True Blood Season 6 premiere, and I'm getting either Zena or Dolce and Gabana to give me a suit.
I feel like I'm on TV more than you are.
I've never had a fitting.
No one has ever given me anything.
I pay for all of this out of my own pocket.
Can you hook me up with something?
Yeah.
Old Navy, yeah, something.
I can hook you up with a Skylar Aston autographed Shokun,
poster, but you have to pay for postage.
Okay.
You have to pay for the shipping costs.
Good to see you, my friend.
I'll come up with something.
All right, all right.
You work on that for me.
Oh, of course.
Who am I not plugging?
The grungy gentleman.
Oh, right, of course.
Yeah, your own brother owns a line.
You can't even hook me up with him.
I could hook you up with him in a second.
He's been wanting to dress you actually.
He always mentions that.
Yeah, I'm sure.
You don't even wear his stuff.
He lives in New York, too.
You guys can go talk about the Knicks
and he'll lace you up with his grungy by Eton shirt stuff.
It's better than the shirts you have, I think.
Thanks a lot.
I appreciate that compliment.
We'll talk to you later.
But his stuff is ridiculous.
Okay.
Now you're just going overboard with the plug for your brother.
Now it's just getting a little too much.
I know.
You like think that I'm like,
him this self-promoter, I think.
Good to talk to you, Skyler.
Great to talk to you, Ariel. Ariel.
I always appreciate the support. We'll talk to you soon, all right?
Absolutely, go Nix.
There he is. And as he mentions, Go Nix.
New York, Rick, just told me Jason Kidd retired. Is that true?
Yep. Okay, no one wants to hear us talk about that.
We'll read about it a little later on. What is going on in the world of Twitter?
We've got to give away these questions. These prizes.
A little flustered there.
Well, I mean, we just talked to a Hollywood A-LIS superstar.
You should honestly take them up on the offer of the...
That was a good Luke Thomas, wasn't it?
It was great.
You know what?
At first, I thought it was Morrow.
And then it got a little deeper into it, and it became clear that it was Luke Thomas.
I had somebody text me that they like Mike Chiapetta's voice.
They do?
Yeah, it was a strange text, very random.
Who was it?
Not going to say that.
Really?
Famous person?
No.
Okay.
Was it a woman?
Anyway, so I think that that would be a big hit if they did a faux MMA beat, him and Prebeck.
All right, let's get to the questions.
Enough of this nonsense.
First question.
Tops cards on the line.
First question.
Ricardo de Pablo's V.
Shouldn't fighters take it easier on their last weeks of training camp leading up to their fights
to avoid what just happened to Little Knob?
Little Knogg suffered a pinched nerve.
in his back. He's out eight to 12 weeks.
What makes you think that he was going hard?
I mean, that can happen.
You ever have a pinched nerve?
I mean, have you ever had a pinch nerve?
Nope.
No, I haven't either.
But I would imagine it doesn't need to be something crazy to cause something like this.
So sure, guys learn.
I think a guy like Nogera has been around the block.
I think he knows what he's doing.
And these accidents happen a lot, and Nogera's been injured.
reprown. He's pulled out of a lot of fights recently. It happens.
But yes, something like a Gustafsson situation where he
slices open right under his eyebrow, gets knocked into the cage,
not wearing headgear a few days before, biggest fight of his career.
Yeah, that's a little crazy.
Our next question comes from Will Yanukanda.
Is Chale Son in making a mistake by asking for a fight on short notice
when another loss could seriously hurt his career?
I was surprised by it. Honestly, I thought it was just
Chale being Chale capitalizing on the moment and good for him. You know, people get behind him.
People like it. That's, that's who he is. I don't see why he needs to take this fight.
First off, I'd rather see Chale Sondon fight Van Ulai Silva next. You've got that, you've got that heat there.
You've got the trash talk, back and forth, sucking blood, all this craziness.
That's the fight I want to see next. We keep getting that fight dangled in front of us, and then it gets taken away.
There's a bit of heat there between Chale and Shogun, and it kind of adds to the Chalunan myth, if you will, that the guy fights any time.
any place, any one,
but I just don't see the point.
I don't see why he needs to take this fight.
But hey, more power to him if he wants to.
I don't think he's getting cut from the UFC
of the three losses.
Look, one of those losses was to Anderson Silva.
One of those losses was to John Jones
just recently, a little over a month ago.
And then a short-notice fight if he loses to Shogun.
By the way, if he fights Shogun,
depending on what kind of shape he's in,
I'd actually pick Chale.
I would definitely pick Shale.
I think he'd be a favorite going in.
And what if he'd be a favorite going in?
And what if he'd be.
beats chale. I mean, that's, imagine the ammunition he has verbally for when he eventually does face off
with Vanderley. Right. And those two being so close. I think it would be, I think there is, I see some
upside in this. I want to see him fight banderlay right now. I feel like the time is right. V. Tor, there's
no heat there in the Shogun fight other than the fact that he said a lot about Brazilians. Okay, we've
conquered that with Anderson. And the short notice nature of it all makes me feel like we're not going
to get to see the best chale. But then on the flip side, it, like I said, it adds to his mystique.
So if they need him
I feel bad for those Winnipeg fans
You know they sold out the place
They deserve something big
But less than two weeks notice
These guys aren't rock and sock and robots
That's the thing like people were put in Glover
Put in chill
Put in anyone
They're not rock emsock and robots
They deserve training camps
These are losses that will be remembered for everyone
And known will remember the circumstances
Let the guys get full training camps
Our next question comes from Sean Brady
Was Kahal Pendred's performance
against an overweight mills impressive enough to catch Dana's attention and get him into the UFC.
Honestly, no. In my opinion, it wasn't. I wasn't impressed by it.
Obviously, he finished him, but I thought even the end of the second round when he was kind of looking over to the referee,
say, hey, why don't you stop this? It didn't feel like it was a wow performance in this day and age
where the UFC cutting guys, well-known guys, can you justify getting in off a win like that?
I don't think so. Now, August 17th, Boston, guy was born in Boston, now lives in Ireland,
there's a connection there, I would put him on the card. I think he gets lucky the fact that
there is a card coming up in, what, a little over two months? No, yes, a little over two months.
He gets lucky. So I think he, if I were a matchmaker, if I were a promoter, I would put him on there
and give him his shot.
But I would say if the appearance is not,
if the performance is not great,
you may not get another one.
Or you stick around, you do your thing,
and you try to build yourself up a little more.
I just, I wasn't, I wasn't blown away by it.
I really wasn't.
I know it's a tough thing to finish Shane Mills.
I just, I was watching it and I didn't think like,
oh, wow, this is the performance that you need to have
to get it to the UFC.
That being said, because that card's coming up,
I would still put them on.
Hope that made sense.
Next question comes from Intermoy Thai.
Is Misha Tate for the ultimate fighter better for television than Zingano?
And he says, I think Dana is happy.
Like I said on the MMA beat, I think it's a blessing in disguise.
You hate to hear anyone getting injured,
especially someone like Kat who had such a great performance.
He was emotional, UFC debut, crying on the way to the cage,
and deserved to win that fight against Misha.
It was a huge opportunity for her, not just getting the Rondorasi fight,
but also being a coach on the Ultimate Fighter, Fox Sports One, all that good stuff.
You hate to see that happen.
But as far as a pure business standpoint goes, A, there's that heat there.
That wasn't there between Kat and Rhonda.
You have that rivalry there.
And like I said on the MMA beat, that rivalry, in my opinion, needs a fresh coat of pain.
It's kind of run its course.
And I'm not quite sure Misha ever would have gone back there.
There are a lot of tough women at 135 pounds.
people want to see that rematch now you have a reason to give it to them so i i think that
you kind of dodged a bullet because you may never have had the opportunity to get the rematch done
and now you have that opportunity i think it's brian carraway you got that aspect he's going to be
an assistant coach you got the ronda versus brian aspect which is very interesting and i still think
that fight battle of the sexist would do great business and i want to continue banging that drum
because i think it's a lot of fun so he's going to be on the show
show at all-time high of his heel status, if you will.
So I think the UFC lucks out in this sense.
Plus, you got, you know, what if veterans like Tarla Rosa, Shana Bezos, they get on,
and Misha, who's had public feuds with Tarla Rosa, has to coach them.
Can you imagine that?
That'll be kind of awkward.
That'll make for good television.
This is the first time in several seasons where the coaches are in the same way class
as the fighters that they will be coaching.
And I think that makes for a very interesting dynamic.
So all those things considered,
I think it's a win-win for the UFC.
Plus, Kat comes back.
You have this story of her coming back,
and she's been promised an immediate title shot.
So you get to gain a new contender,
and then she'll be back there,
hopefully in around nine months or so,
once this fight is over,
because this fight is happening in December.
She has a long time.
They just bought themselves some time.
I don't think it's the worst thing in the world.
our next question related to female MMA can you foresee i'm sorry this is from jason a martin can you foresee rousy or any female champ ever making the pound for poundless and does zingano's injury seem too convenient
the first off let's let's let's drop that there's no fix in they're not fit have you seen the videos this poor girl's getting surgery she's in a hospital bed
she's doing all kind of stuff to heal up her knee enough with that that that's insulting to her to insinuate that they're faking an injury come on
That's crazy. Why would they announce the fight if they didn't want it in the first place? It wasn't that long ago.
Can I see Rousey be on the pound for pound list? Sure. I could see it happening. There are some who have already voted for her. I do the Yahoo pound for pound for her. I do the pound for her thing every month. I wonder if they kicked me out of it. Anyway, I do that thing every month. Where I used to do it every month. And there were some who voted for her. So I could see her being on it. I have no problem with it. Again, I want to see Rousey versus Brian Carraway. I think we need to make that fight happen.
Our next question from UFC face swap.
Do you think fighters like Bubba Jenkins and John Alessio made the right choice to sign with Bellator
despite their shady history?
Well, first off, John Alessio was released from the UFC, so where else he's going to go?
That's a big platform for him.
Sure.
I know Malki was insinuating Malki Kawa, who used to manage Bubba Jenkins, was insinuating this is a bad move for Bubba Jenkins.
He doesn't do a lot of business with Belator.
But I don't think it's necessarily fair, you know, let's put it this way.
They don't have the best public relations right now.
They don't have the best, you know, they're not the best standing as far as the people are concerned.
But for a young guy like Bubba Jenkins who may not get a shot in the UFC in the foreseeable future, he goes in the tournament.
I know his first fight won't be in the tournament, but eventually he could cash in on a lot of money pretty quickly.
So, you know, there are a lot of people who are in Bellator who appear to be.
happy. So I don't want to paint them with that brush. They've had some bad, you know, stories come out.
Wyman tried to distance himself from it. But Alessio makes total sense. And honestly, I like the fact that
they've dropped this hole. We're not going to sign UFC castoffs. These guys are more well-known than
most of the guys you have on your roster. Give them shots. People are still going to watch him.
You don't think, you don't think, let's just say he was healthy and available. You don't think
people would watch Mayhem on Bell Tour? You know, you don't think they would have watched
John Fitch on Belator, they would have. Trust me. They would have.
So, Alessio makes total sense. And for Jenkins, young guy, RFA, you're not getting a call on the UFC. Why not?
Here's our next question, possible destination. Do you think WSOF will take over as the number two promotion?
They arguably already have bigger names than Belator.
I think it's a little premature to say that. They've only had two events. They've got the third one coming up.
The third main card isn't as juicy as some of their other ones.
I think it was really hurt by the fact that Tyrone Spung pulled out and is going to be doing the glory card instead eight days later.
I do think that they're starting to sign the right kind of guys.
I love the Nick Newell signing.
I love it.
Nick Newell, as I've mentioned many times on this show is must-see TV.
Nick Newell is the kind of guy that you tell your friends, you've got to watch this guy.
They got a guy like that.
A Bubba Jenkins type would have been smart for them.
They need those young up-and-coming guys.
In my opinion, World Series of fighting needs less cast-off, more youngsters, more guys they can build around.
It's a weird thing because in a way, I feel like Bell-Tor because they put on more fights, needs more cast-offs, less of the younger guys.
You know what I'm saying?
Anyway, I don't think it's fair to call them number two just yet.
I'd put them at number three.
The next question comes from Darren Chung.
Do you think Barnett will thrive in the UFC, both in fighting and playing ball with Dana?
I think he can most certainly beat Frank Mear.
It sounds like you look at the evolution of the Josh Barnett interview on this show alone.
And even in our post-fight interviews, he went from being the guy who was not wanting to play in ball, the lone wolf,
the guy who just didn't really care if he ever got back to the UFC.
to be on this show and kind of openly asking for another chance.
I think he'll play ball.
I think he'll do what he has to do.
Prove that he deserved whatever he was trying to get the first time around
when they offered him a contract after Strike Force.
And I could see him sticking around for a few fights.
Absolutely.
I don't see this, I mean, unless something crazy,
I don't see this ending badly for Josh.
This was the place that he needed to be.
Where's he going to go?
Beltor, they just don't have many options for him at heavyweight.
Where's he going to go?
World Series, they don't have any options for him at heavyweight.
He's going to fight. Anthony Johnson? He needs to be in the UFC. Think about the matchups.
Mier, Nelson, Verdume. There's some great matchups for Josh Barnett, even before he gets to the upper tier guys.
I'm excited to see him, and I think this was the smart move, and I don't see why I will end badly.
Our next question comes from Asian Sensation 81. With the UFC raising the marijuana testing threshold,
do you think it will help or will fighters go over the limit?
Well, that's their own cards where they're overseeing it.
And it's also, they mentioned that in Brazil, they'll be doing it as well.
But that doesn't affect here in the United States or Canada.
That's up to the commissions to do that.
You know, I don't know enough about those decimals and how far out you can use marijuana.
I mean, honestly, I wouldn't want to smoke marijuana before I go into a fight.
Now, if you do it a week out, then I think it's crazy.
I don't think you should be penalized for that, other than the fact that it's actually illegal.
That's the funny thing about people who get all up in arms about the whole marijuana thing.
End of the day, it's illegal.
It's illegal.
You can't do it.
Now, the Nick Diaz thing, I think is crazy.
The guy has a license to do it in his home state.
He comes over, fine, it's in a system, but he had a license to do it.
That's ludicrous, in my opinion.
The Pat Healy one, he messed up.
What can you do?
He messed up, and he fessed up.
I don't know what the percentages are.
I don't know anything in that stuff,
but I don't see this being a big issue.
I just think maybe less guys will get caught,
but I don't think it will affect any performances,
and I don't think people will use it.
I know there's been kind of the theory thrown out
that it helps you in training, calm down, or heal up.
I don't know.
I'm not sure if I buy that.
Do you know anything about that stuff?
No clue.
I don't know.
I don't even know how big of a jump it was.
I don't know.
I'm anti-drugs.
I'm Brian Carraway.
I like that little disclaimer.
I'm anti-drugs.
Our next question comes from Chris Owen Earl.
Does the UFC need to handle its own regulations,
refs, judges, testing in order to evolve further as a sport?
Well, I've mentioned that.
I've said, you know, Dana White, you know,
at the end of the day, people say,
oh, UFC judges suck.
A lot of people don't understand that it's the commissions
that actually assign the judges, the referees.
and knowing how they want to control their own destiny,
why not, you know, why not do this yourself?
Why not take the power into your own hands?
But then there are these issues that come up with the fixing.
A lot of problems would arise, especially in combat sports.
But in my opinion, look at the NBA.
There's the referees association, NFL.
They had, you know, the strike with the referees and all that stuff.
If it can happen in those sports and they could get by the whole fixing
and people always complain.
And actually it did happen in the NBA.
Tim Donahey, right?
He was accused, actually he admitted fixing NBA games.
I think you're asking me, which clearer you are,
I think that the UFC would be in their best interest
to start developing fighters, judges.
It's come to a point where you can't just keep saying
the commission suck, the refs suck, the judges suck.
They screwed us up.
At the end of the day, it affects you.
It affects your bottom line.
It affects your sport.
It affects your image.
It affects your pockets, all that stuff.
Why wouldn't you want to take control of the situation?
So I think it would be great.
For whatever reason in this country, the way it's established, the way it's been done for many, many years, it goes through the commissions.
I don't think the commissions are doing a good enough job.
So yes, I would like to see the UFC take it over.
I just don't see it happening.
Our next question comes from Jack Bodkin.
Who do you think would fare the best in a straight-up
jujitsu tourney out of all the current UFC champions?
Oh.
Well, the good thing is we have them right over here.
Sands Mighty Mouse.
Right.
We got Mighty Mouse.
We've got Josealdo.
Well, first we've got Mighty Mouse, Dominic Cruz.
I'm going to throw in Henne Barrow.
We got Josealdo.
We've got Benson Henderson.
We've got George St. Pierre.
We've got Anderson Silva.
We got John Jones.
Jones, we got Kane Velasquez.
So how many is that?
Let's throw on Ronda Rousey in there.
Is that 10?
Let's count.
Rhonda, Demetrius, Henan, Dominic,
Aldo, Benson, GSP, Anderson,
John Jones, Kane Velasquez.
I just want to keep proving to everyone that I know these off top of my head.
So that's 10.
Who would win?
Who do you think would win?
I don't know, you know, much about high-level.
jujitsu other than the fact that I know that control is one of the like styles like there's guys who go for
submissions there's guys who go for control so I imagine that um George st pierre would probably be pretty good
and controlling opponents scoring points that way yeah um john jones doesn't pride himself on his jihihs
he has submitted well benson has competed sure he has um just got his black belt congratulations yeah so
Cane Velasquez?
No.
Well, I mean, his wrestling, his motor,
those would definitely be in his favor.
Al those good on the ground, he just doesn't show it.
Yeah, I've never seen it, so I can't really.
I'll go with GSP.
Well, yeah, sure.
I don't know enough about, you know,
the highest levels of Jiu-Jitsu, but I'm going to go
to Meta-Morris and find out.
You are?
Yeah.
You're going to Meta-Morris.
I'll go see it.
Wow.
Can you give us a report?
Sure, I'll come back and talk all about it.
Wow, are you excited?
I mean, because I was just talking about control.
role, this one's all about submission.
There is no points.
There are no points, rather.
So, you know, a guy like Brendan Chob doesn't have to worry about things like that.
He can chase the submissions and test his jiu-jitsu on the highest level.
Yeah, I think it'll be cool.
I wonder how many people will show up.
It's at the famed Poly Pavilion in UCLA Sunday night, as I mentioned, June 9th.
That's cool that you're going.
Yeah, it's going to be fun.
Do you think it'll be mobbed by people there?
Absolutely not.
How are you going to do your UFC fit when you're over there?
You're going to bring it with you?
Yeah, it's DVDs, bro.
All right, all right, right.
I would hope that the hotel has DVDs, as a DVD player.
By the way, when's the last time you've been in a hotel?
Most of them don't.
Really?
Yeah.
Well, anyway, I'll have a computer.
All right.
Well, my computer doesn't have a DVD drive.
I don't have your computer.
Here's our next question from J.D. Cook, the third.
Okay.
Please explain intelligently defending yourself.
He uses as an example.
Chale said he was intelligently defending himself against John Jones.
Well, I think not defending yourself intelligently is turtling up in a ball and just getting
shots to your body, shots to your head, shots all over the place.
I mean, that's just not, that's just you kind of hanging on for dear life.
If you're intelligently defending yourself, you're moving around, you're trying to duck
punches, you know, you're blocking them, you're active.
You're clearly working to trying to get out of the situation.
When you're just turtled up, when you're just standing there, when you're
you're just getting wailed on, that's not a smart way to defend yourself.
And that's when a ref should stop the fight.
I think the chale finish was a fair one.
I think it was a good one.
There are other times, like Bigfoot was complaining that, you know, when a guy,
I can understand, like, if for a second or two you do that because you're trying to
regroup and maybe you just got a big hit and you're down on the ground, you just need a second
to regroup, I get it.
But if you're doing that for five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten seconds, then it's
time to stop the fight.
Ten would be a lot.
Yeah, ten would be quite a lot.
Next question from Ben Westcott.
What should be the requirements for inclusion in an MMA Hall of Fame, career, moments, popularity, era?
You know, that's a very good question.
And we were talking about that on the MMA beat with Matt Serra.
You know, I think he should get into the Hall of Fame.
But then there were other people who were saying, well, should Buster Douglas get into the boxing Hall of Fame because of his moment?
You know, and it kind of made me think that was probably the best argument I heard against having Matt Sarah.
But I just think our sport is younger.
He was champion while in the ultimate fighter.
It was just a very big deal.
I think Matt Sarah deserves it.
But MMA Hall of Fame, why should it be like any other sport?
Why can't it be some career?
Why can't some of it be the moment?
Look at Brock Lester.
Would you put Brock Lester in the MMA Hall of Fame?
I would.
Okay, fine.
Would you put Matt Sera?
I would.
Okay.
So we agree on this, you know, because Brock Lester certainly wasn't the greatest fighter of all time.
He was a champion.
He beat some high-level guys.
But he changed the business.
He was more popular than anyone.
Matt Sera had that moment, and he had a very big rematch, and he had a big fight against Matt Hughes.
A lot of people thought, why does it have to be so cut and dry?
Right.
Now, having said that, if there were, you know, if somebody were to establish guidelines,
I would have no problem with that either.
And then I would have no problem admitting that Brock Lesnar doesn't make the cut.
But from my opinion is...
How can you even establish guidelines?
What do you mean?
How can you,
like,
what should it be
that you had a winning
percentage of this much
that you won this many?
Well, that's not how
Hall of Fame's work.
So what are the guidelines?
There's no current Hall of Fame
that works like that.
They have voters who,
right,
people trust their votes to,
and then they vote on behalf of the people.
But there's no guideline,
like Tim Raines is trying to get into
the Baseball Hall of Fame.
There's no,
there's no,
there's unofficial ones.
Like, you can look at who is in
and who is out
and determine,
you know,
what,
what got,
them in and what prevented them from getting in.
And by the way, there's plenty of, you know, there's, there's guys who are no-brainers and then
there's guys who are, you know, kind of in the middle there.
So there's always going to be that regardless.
There's no set of criteria in any Hall of Fame that says, if you get this, you're in,
if you don't get this, you're out.
But the no-brainer should be easy and the other ones could be up for discussion.
I'm not even sure.
I'm not even sure Buster Douglas doesn't deserve to be in the boxing Hall of Fame.
Yeah, well, I don't know enough about, you know, boxing's history.
Yeah, he finished, you know, he knocked out Mike Tyson.
No, I know who Buster Douglas is.
So that's kind of like Matt Sera, right?
Sure, I could see a comparison there.
What about Stefan Bonner?
In, in mine.
Really?
Despite the steroids.
So we're on the same page.
In.
Wow.
We're on the same page.
Now, I think a moment can get in.
Like, I think that fight could be inducted.
Why not?
Why can't the two people?
Now, I, I just received a word.
word before we started the show that
Forest and Stefan will actually be
inducted separately as individuals.
I know they'll have a lot of people up
in arms, but first off, the UFC
Hall of Fame, as I've said many times,
is no different than any team's
wall of fame
or whatever they call it ring of fame.
Football stadiums have that. And there are
guys who are in that, who aren't in the
official Hall of Fame.
This is the UFC Hall of Fame, and some people
say, well, it's just up to the owner's Zoufa.
They don't have Frank, Sean, Rick, Pat Meltage.
Yeah, they're the owner.
owners. It's their Hall of Fame. They're the owners. Now, if there's an MMA Hall of Fame,
it's different. And I'm still not quite sure if, if there's an MMA Hall of Fame and I was a part
of it, I would vote Forrest and Stefan together into the Hall of Fame that moment. I wouldn't
vote Stefan alone, but I think that moment deserves to be in there in some capacity, whether or not
it's in the same capacity as Anderson Silva going in. It depends on what kind of Hall of Fame or the
sort of wings, so to speak. But that moment deserves to be recognized in the Hall of Fame. Him
alone, no. Matt Sarah, moment, yes,
N, N, in, yeah, why not? Big fight.
Won the title. Lesnar, in.
With you on that one. All right.
Next question comes from Jesse Malloy. If you could create an
M.MA Mount Rushmore with four names, who would be on there and why?
Four names, MMA Mount Rushmore.
First off, Dana White would have to be, would this be only fighters?
Let's stick to fighters.
Oh, all right.
Um, hoist Gracie,
Randy Coutre.
Damn, this is tough.
Actually, I don't know if Randy Couture gets in.
I take that back.
Hoist Gracie, Chuck Liddell, Anderson Silva, Tito?
What do you think?
It's tough.
Hoist is the one that I don't think anybody would debate.
Right?
He's the first.
He's the one.
Definitely Anderson Silva,
because he's widely considered the greatest of all time.
That one's almost a no-brainer as well.
then it comes down to the last two.
It's got to be Chuck and Tito.
First million buy rate, pay-per-view,
their feud, the explosion, Chuck and Tito.
Fador doesn't make the cut?
No, he didn't have the impact.
He didn't have the impact.
I don't know.
He didn't have the worldwide impact.
Fadour walks down the street in New York.
I mean, let's be honest,
a lot of these guys walk down the street in New York.
No one knows who they are.
So then what difference?
He didn't have the impact.
Never won in the UFC, never fought in the UFC.
So I feel like yours is very heavily UFC.
No, it's not.
But let's be honest.
The UFC is MMA today.
I would put Fador, I think, over either one or the other, but I don't.
Over who?
Chuck or Tito?
Over one of them, yeah.
Really?
I think so.
But it wouldn't be if you said Chuck and Tito where I would be like, no, absolutely not.
Fador.
But I think Fader would be.
On mine.
Over which one?
I don't know.
You gotta have your rush more.
I think over Tito.
I think Chuck gets the nod.
Really?
Would you put GSP in there?
At this moment, I don't think so.
I think either he or Anderson gets that spot.
And right now it's unequivocally Anderson.
You know, it's funny because Anderson
didn't like sell a lot of pay-per-views or anything like that,
but I still feel as though...
Well, that, I mean, you have to take all that into account,
I imagine and just you can't keep him out.
It's impossible.
He's the greatest fighter who ever live.
Yeah.
All right, that's fun.
Okay, next question.
I think this is our last one.
The Cobra.
Ariel, I've opened the line on New York Rick
at minus 145.
The comeback on UFC fit is plus 125.
Wow.
Wait, wait, what's the 145?
He's making me the favorite over UFC fit.
I will conquer UFC fit.
Really?
That's what he's got.
He's got me as a slight favorite.
do it. As much as people want to see me crap on you, I think you'll do it. You see, I see it in your eyes.
I see you're determined. You look to be in good shape. That's the thing about this. You know,
uh, Dulce said this is for people who are 20 to 40 pounds overweight. It sounds tough.
It's, it's something for everybody, but it's not easy. That's how I'd put it. Like,
anybody can do it if they, if they're motivated enough, but it's not, it's not just like,
oh, it's so easy. It's a walk in the park. Here's one thing I've always wondered about these, uh, these
commercial like you know exercise things what if you can't do an exercise like well what if you like he's
doing something you just fast forward you just try your best oh that's it okay i mean well i don't know
it doesn't explicitly say hey guys if you if you can't do everything um that's what you mean
no i'm saying it doesn't explicitly say on the screen if you can't do this fast forward here i just
imagine you know try your best just do do what you can do there's some things on the first um
DVD that I wasn't able to
nail on my first try out.
So I just did my best.
I did what I could.
And is it just Mike from
MMA fame or are there other
MMA fighters' personalities?
I didn't recognize anybody.
They were going through the
people in the back that I always find funny
in like workout videos.
They were all in great shape,
but I didn't recognize any of them as fighters.
They might have been like amateur fighters
or low-level pro fighters,
but Mike was the main attraction there.
Back to the question.
I like that.
that? I think that's fair. Cool. I'm glad. Yeah. That's it. Good questions today. Anyone,
anyone comes to mind is the best? I really like the one about the UFC self-regulating. I thought that was
an interesting question. Mount Rushmore. I like Mount Rushmore.
Yeah, there was... You claim we've been asked Mount Rushmore before. We've been asked it in the past.
It never hurts to, you know, get an update. Anderson Silva's spot. I don't remember being asked
that question. We've been asked it. Really? I remember. I remember,
even pulling up a picture from Google images of a crafted Mount Rushmore,
which I believe had like Randy, Hoyce, Chuck, and maybe Fadar.
That might have been the four.
Well, I liked it.
So it wins.
So that's the winner?
That's the winner.
M.MA Mount Rushmore, congratulations.
Let me just tell the fans one more time what he will be winning.
And we have more than one, right?
Yeah, this is just for this week.
How many do we have?
I don't know.
Brendan Brought in two.
We might have more.
Okay, cool.
Um,
this is,
uh,
the UFC tops,
2013 knockout.
Um,
as Ariel said,
each box has a sticker price of 160.
So you're getting quite a prize here.
Eight mini boxes,
five cards in each,
um,
all kinds of autographs,
all kinds of memorabilia and some combos.
So be on the lookout for that.
Should we,
do you feel like that's the best one or should we run down them quickly?
Uh,
we could do that if you want.
Just go quickly.
I feel like I'm missing one.
I want to be fair.
First one up is
The Cobra about me
Let's skip that one
