MMA Fighting - UFC Perth Post-Fight Show | Reaction To Carlos Prates Destroying Jack Della Maddalena

Episode Date: May 2, 2026

Carlos Prates sent a strong message to the top of the UFC welterweight division, and the promotional brass, as he ran through Jack Della Maddalena in the main event of UFC Perth and he made it look ea...sy doing it. Prates wants a title shot now, but will he get it in a loaded up 170-pound division? Following Saturdau's UFC Perth card at RAC Arena, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck reacts to the Fight Night event, Prates' phenomenal performance, if a title fight is next for "The Nightmare," or if anything else makes more sense. Additionally, topics include Quillan Salkilld's quick finish of Beneil Dariush in the co-main event, if we saw Dariush and Tai Tuivasa have their final UFC fights after Tuivasa's seventh straight loss, other standout moments, Yoel Romero's jaw-breaking win at Gamebred FC on Friday, and much more. Starting point is 00:01:25 See Golden Nugget Casino.com for details. Please play responsibly. You're listening to the Vox Media Podcast Network. All right, everybody. Those are the victory horns. You hear them, and they sound for Carlos Proches. Holy cow. He just beat the brakes out of poor Jack Delamattelana,
Starting point is 00:01:59 capping off UFC Perth, and the man wants a title shot. And if you look on social media, you look on Twitter. Seems like a lot of people are favoring that. Of course, the rumor and innuendo is Islam Makachap versus Ian Machado Gary, perhaps in August, perhaps in July. And Carlos Prochis, if you watched my interview with him earlier this week, said, you know what, I'll just wait. I'll wait if they want to do Ilya, if he goes out and beats Justin Gaichi. I'm cool with that.
Starting point is 00:02:31 My next fight, if I win this fight, will be for the belt. I'm the only guy who's beaten back-to-back former champions, finish them both. He feels like he deserves it and the sentiment seems to be pretty much an agreement, which makes this Walterweight division even more interesting with Kamar Usman still there. What's going on, Mike Morales, who's favored, who's next in line? Are we just going to have these three dudes just continuously fight each other? What is going to happen, ladies and gentlemen? That's why the sport is so exciting.
Starting point is 00:03:04 And that's why we are here at 10.35 a.m. Eastern Time in a UFC event is wrapped impact. I am Mike Hock. Hope you're all having a wonderful Saturday morning. A lot going on here in the Heck household, but we're going to knock out this post show on a busy Saturday. If you guys watch some boxing, the NUA fight was really fun. UFC Perth, I caught a good amount of it. Some good, some real bad. But Carlos Pratch is stealing the show. What a performance. Turned J.D.M. into a wrestler pretty early. And I was like, you know what? This is actually
Starting point is 00:03:37 not a terrible game plan from JDM and then Pratchez just kept eating them up those leg kicks were starting to add up the knees the elbows everything Carlos Pratchez was throwing throughout this fight was having an effect on JDM I'm surprised Jack lasted as long as he did in this fight but again just outstanding stuff from Carlos Pratchez and
Starting point is 00:03:58 yeah I mean I noticed that as well the crowd was very quiet not just during that fight but throughout a lot of the night outside of the beer snake, which I thought was pretty interesting. That was really like the best thing that they could go home with tonight. But yeah, outstanding stuff from,
Starting point is 00:04:15 from Pratchez. I'm curious what you guys think coming out of this event. Is it, is it title shot? Should he jump Ian Machado, Gary and Michael Morales? I see some people saying,
Starting point is 00:04:27 you know what? Screw it. Let's do Pratchez versus Morales. But then where does that leave Kamara Usman? So I'll leave it up to all of you to matchmake the Swelter, weight division coming off of this win so let's see what you guys have to say we'll talk about some other stuff going on but it's by myself i'll chat with all of you uh rs 40s like you know what
Starting point is 00:04:48 title shot let's go uh i won't say that that was that's not true jdm tough night for him no doubt about it once you lose the welterweight title it usually does not go typically well for you Usman ain't fighting for no belt anytime soon. So I would do Morales, Usen. I think that's, that fight makes a ton of sense. Like if you're not going to give Michael the title shot, that's the fight you make.
Starting point is 00:05:25 I think Pratchez is in such a good position right now. With this win, I think it puts them in the on-deck circle. I think they will, they're not going to jump over Ian here. They're not going to be like, nah, you're out. We're putting Carthouse in there. But Carlos' next fight should be for the belt. So if I'm the UFC, I'm booking Michael Morales versus Kamar Usman,
Starting point is 00:05:48 preferably on the same fight card. So if they do it in August and Philly, Morales Usman is one hell of a featured bout or a co-main event if you're not going to do two title fights. Like, that's a big fight. You have a backup plan just in case. That's a good call. That's how I would do it.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Now, if I'm Kamara Usman, the one thing I will take away from this fight, especially watching JDM. He didn't have a lot of success in this fight, but the success he did have were the takedowns and the little pieces of grappling that he was able to do. And if you watch the I-Machado-Garry fight, he was able to win that fight a lot of ways
Starting point is 00:06:23 because of the grappling, the takedowns, getting some top control and neutralizing Carl Spraches and keeping him off the feet where he's obviously the most dangerous. If I'm Kamar Usman, I am literally doing nothing else for the next several months but spending each and every day calling out Carlos Pratchez. Because I think Uspin is so far out of the conversation right now.
Starting point is 00:06:48 I don't know why he was ever really in the conversation for a title shot after beating Buckley. But now, considering what has happened even since then, we're already knocking on the door of a year since Uspin's win over Joaquin Buckley. And so much has changed and so much has happened. If I'm Oosman, I am on the Twitter spear. Just call him Pratchez out. Calling him out. I think if of all the fights that are available to him,
Starting point is 00:07:11 I think in, I don't know if I would pick who's been to be Carlos Pratchez, but I think this is probably stylistically, the most winnable of all the available options to him. So go get it, man. I mean, I don't know why he continues to sit on the sidelines and wait for that phone call that's just not coming.
Starting point is 00:07:30 But if I'm Moosman, I'm going for that. Now, if I'm Pratchez, I probably don't go anywhere near that or any other fight. I sit and wait. to see how this division plays out. And if Justin Gaci, somehow beats Ilya Tricus is getting title fight probably before the end of the year.
Starting point is 00:07:47 If not, Pratchez will get a title fight early 2027. But either way, he shouldn't fight again, but perhaps maybe the UFC would be like, hey, why don't you go fight Kamar or Usman? If you beat Usman, you get a title shot. But yeah, like I said, if I'm Usman, all over that fight. That's the only one I'm calling for. And again, I'm not saying,
Starting point is 00:08:08 He would beat Prochis, but that's if I'm Usman and you know you have to beat one of these guys, that's the one. Let's see whatever else is. Does anyone want to see Prochis get submitted in the first round by Islam? Do you think that would happen? I don't know. She loves the gloves. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:08:37 It kind of felt like JDM's corner should have thrown in the towel. That was tough to watch. I think after the leg kick knocked down, wouldn't have been a bad idea. Probably could have done it before then. I mean, sometimes, and Jed and I talk about this all the time on these shows, sometimes you just have to know that you got no chance. Your fighter just, it's not his night, he's got no chance to win. Why further the damage?
Starting point is 00:08:59 I mean, did anybody, even Jack Della Madalane as family members, were they even thinking after that second round? Yeah, maybe he can come back and win. I don't think so. So I don't disagree with that take whatsoever. shout out to Twitchers. Dave is an Irish fan. That win for Pratchez makes you ask,
Starting point is 00:09:21 how good really is Gary? Beating Pratchez and MVP, nobody beats and almost beating Shafcott. I mean, I think people should have been asking that question anyways. No? Really good wins. And then beating Bilal, that's, I know a lot of people don't like Bilal,
Starting point is 00:09:40 but beating Bilal is not easy to do. And Ian beat him. Dr. Ned Kishu. Two of the most one-sided losses in recent memory now belonging. to JDM. Yeah. I don't know where he goes from here, honestly.
Starting point is 00:10:01 I really don't know. He looked beat up. Like real bad. And even before the flurry in round three, he just, that second round just kind of took his soul a little bit. And then the third round, Pratchez just took whatever was left.
Starting point is 00:10:22 Hello, Jed. Pratchez versus Barales, that's the only fight that should be made. I mean, it's fun. but wouldn't that fight be better for the title or potentially for the title? I don't know. Jedd, if you want to hop on here, that would be great.
Starting point is 00:10:46 Usen takes on Malad, I've seen it. Uspen should... I mean, if I'm the UFC, like, I would think about that fight, but again, if you're Kamar Uspin, that fight does nothing for you. Doesn't get you a title fight. You don't jump anybody in the line. We're literally having the same conversation. fact like there are probably some people who would say it pushes him back a little bit
Starting point is 00:11:09 even with a win when has shop got back won't be this year maybe maybe maybe he fights at like the very end of the year but wouldn't shock me if he's out for until 2027 either I mean knee injuries are tough when you re-injured the same injury never a good thing super chap my 17 year old up all night to watch this card on the west coast nearly woke everyone up when prochus won what a performance guy looked incredible he did he's very very fun man he's very very fun jed says not hopping on that would require him to put a shirt on and jed is not in the business of hurting people's feelings so all right take a couple more and then we'll talk about what else happened on this card and then we'll just throw it to you guys
Starting point is 00:12:14 after this. Lem, hot take, but Belal gave JDM the title with his game plan. I mean, it's not really a hot take. I mean, that was pretty much my take from the second round on. You know, and I know a lot of people like to fire back at that and say, well, it was JDM's style that led to Bilal not being able to get him down, but Bilal didn't really try to take him down until, like, later on in the fight, like really start to do what Balal does and spam them and shoot a bunch of takedowns.
Starting point is 00:12:46 Like, Blah just wanted to go out there and prove to the world that, hey, I can slug it out too. I'm not a boring fighter. I'm not the guy that Dana White seemed depressed about to wrap the belt around his waist. I could be a slinger too, and he was. And that was a great fight. But to his detriment, it cost him the belt fighting like that.
Starting point is 00:13:11 But Walter 8 is fun. There was not a time where it was this fun. We were all wondering what was going on. and we're in sort of the Leon Colby era and the Leon Usman rematch era and we're in all these different places trying to see this new generation of fighter get their opportunity to fight for a belt
Starting point is 00:13:30 and I still feel like in certain cases at Lightway we're still waiting for that to happen. Finally, at Walterway, we've broken through a little bit and now Gary's going to get his shot. We got Morales. We got Carlos Pratchez. It's rocks. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:13:46 rocks it's very very fun what else happened on this card ladies and gentlemen because there are things that happened that uh will remember and there's certainly things that happened on this card uh that we will regret as well uh one of which i know a lot of people are already talking about let me just pull up the rest of the fight card real quick so i can be reminded i was on boxing duty for a lot of it but i was trying to to watch everything uh kill and sal killed in one of the least surprising reactions, one of the least surprising results of UFC Perth, just obliterated Benile Darius.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Beats him in less than four minutes. Knocks him down at the right hook, beats the hell out of him, gets the finish. And then he called out Matush Gamrod, which I thought was very, very good. So wonderful callout from Killin South Kid. Guys got something. I still, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:14:49 I haven't learned a whole bunch about him yet. I don't know. I don't know how good he is. I don't know what his ceiling is. This one gave me like a little bit where I'm like, okay, this guy could be like a ranked well, a ranked lightweight for a while.
Starting point is 00:15:06 But I didn't come out of this being like, oh yeah, this dude's fighting for the belt or this dude's winning a title. I'm still not quite there yet. But you only fight the guys that you can fight. But, you know, Benny's out there trying.
Starting point is 00:15:23 Had a moment in that fight, but it was too little too late. And coming out of this event, Benny's one of these guys like, okay, now what? Are we done here? Do we let him spread his wings and fly and travel through the rest of the combat sports world
Starting point is 00:15:42 and see where you can get a bag? Maybe he goes to PFL. or do we keep them around? I don't know. I think, you know, Dana likes to go to the press conferences and say, we need to have a conversation. I think we're getting close to conversation time
Starting point is 00:15:58 with Benil Darius. Shout to Vinnie Siggs. Gets the win over Tim Elliott. Nice little flyway match up there. Marwan Rahiki just, I mean, obliterated poor Ollie Schmidt. Like, what was that fight even doing on the card? Like, I understand you wanted to give your guy a highlight, but, I mean, that is, that is almost like illegal matchmaking there.
Starting point is 00:16:24 So, fight should not have happened. But it did, and he gets a finish and good for him. Did he get a bonus for that? Or did he get, I don't know, we have bonuses. Okay, yeah, they didn't give, uh, they didn't get marijuana bonus. Thank goodness. Pratchez, Kill and Sal could get performance bonuses in $100,000. and fight of the night.
Starting point is 00:16:46 If you bet this, if you could find a way to bet this, and you picked this fight, you want a lot of money. Shemil Gadsiev versus Brando Parachic was the fight of the night. And boy, those two guys earn their money and being able to follow Louis Sutherland and Tai Tui Vasa. What a spot. That's like almost a guaranteed fight of the night if it's not bad. because I'm here to tell you,
Starting point is 00:17:16 Louis Sutheran versus Tai Tuvasa is on the top of the list of 2026 fights we will never watch again. That was tough scenes. And I think we're done with Tai Tuivasa. I think we have to be done here. I think, you know, if we're going to let Benny Derrush spread his wings and fly,
Starting point is 00:17:34 I think Tai Tuva could actually fly and still have some success in this combat sports world. Could he fight for Gamebred? maybe given the right matchups, we can talk about Gamebred. There were some things I liked about that car, and there was a lot I didn't like about it. So you have to be sort of careful
Starting point is 00:17:55 with how you match make Tai Tuvaa and Gamebred, but dirty boxing would be a great spot for him. BKFC would be a great spot for him. I said some people say, yeah, let's go to PFL. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. No more MMA for Tai Taitui Vasa, unless we're getting real weird with it and doing the Gamebred stuff,
Starting point is 00:18:12 and we match them up perfectly. So, but I think, I think the time is done for tie. If you can't beat... I mean, Louis Sutherland is fine. He'll get a couple of wins in the UFC. It's a guy that's not going to fight for a belt or even get close to it.
Starting point is 00:18:29 But if you're tied to Yvasa, if you can't beat Louis Sutherland, like, it's time. It's time. So seven in a row. One of the big misses from the UFC is just not giving him a title shot or an interim title shot. while we're awaiting for what's going on
Starting point is 00:18:48 with John Jones and the whole steep situation, the fight that nobody wanted. We had to wait another whole entire year for that fight to happen that nobody wanted. You could have thrown Taitoivasa in there after the Derek Lewis win for an interim title fight. Just give him a shot.
Starting point is 00:19:05 May not have won it, but you should have given it to him. Big miss. Cam Raustin gets the win over Robert Brychek. Junior Tafa. This is actually excellent job by the matchmakers here like if you're going to throw junior on a card if we're going to keep them around
Starting point is 00:19:23 this is exactly how you book them against the Kevin Christians of the world so well done Jacob Malcun beats Gerald Mirchert by unanimous decision I enjoyed the Colby thickness Fitz Morales fight I thought
Starting point is 00:19:39 a very close competitive fight Colby gets the win really good stuff there West Schultz good submission win over Ben Johnson Jonathan Michael F beats Temba Garimbo, split decision. I thought it was a clear win for Jonathan. And then Cody Steele kicks things off with a heel hook submission win over Dom Mar fan. So that is UFC Perth.
Starting point is 00:20:05 Inouay, good win. That was a really fun fight. I scored that fight a lot wider than the judges did than UA fight, but not because like InouA blew the doors on. him there were a lot of those rounds are super duper close outside of maybe two or three where anyway started to really pull away but that was really fun game bread last time we can talk about that too so chucking your questions let's have a good time for the next i don't know 15 minutes or so before we get out of here so uh well first go to jed love you buddy get a nap in uman time
Starting point is 00:20:46 BKFC or DBX or Mazadol's promotion wouldn't make sense 100%. ZZ Man. Ty versus UL. bare knuckle. Does it get better than that? Are we doing bare knuckle boxing or are we doing game bread? Because if it's game bread, I don't want that fight.
Starting point is 00:21:05 If we're doing the bare knuckle MMA, you all will just tackle them and then the fight's over. We don't need that. I mean, Ty Tuovasa versus like Eddie Hall in a bare knuckle fight? Like, sign me the hell up for that. That'd be very fun. Ty not getting a Tysha was because in Ghana was out nursing an injury while running out his contract.
Starting point is 00:21:33 Again, you're probably, actually, you're probably right about that. Maybe I got the times confused. But regardless, much like Jose Aldo not fighting for the Bannamway title and them going with Aljo versus Tiji Dola Shah, which is ridiculous. And they made Jose Altoe fight Maraud Vals, really. Them not giving Taito Ivasa some share of a title fight was ridiculous. And even if you're dealing with Francis and he's outwee. with an ACL injury or whatever, because he was hurt, like he was hurt, hurt, hurt.
Starting point is 00:22:04 There's no chance Francis was fighting in 2020, whatever year that was, after UFC 270. There was zero chance he was fighting that year. Contract situation or not. Health-wise, zero chance, if that was the case. So what are we doing here? Could it easily move that division along a little bit, Thur and Tai Tai in there.
Starting point is 00:22:23 But unfortunately, that's not what happened. And seven fights later, no title fight for tie probably no UFC fights for tie either Ty should I'll be doing Oscar Willis's one minute scraps sure I mean I'd watch that solo serpent GM3 getting cut too yeah probably I like Gerald but yeah that was not a fun fight
Starting point is 00:22:51 you all still going hard yeah I mean we could talk about Gamebred if you want putting the result in the title sucks Billy what do you hear for? You came in here just to tell us that the result and the title was there. It's MMA. It was on.
Starting point is 00:23:27 It was broadcast it live. This isn't like they filmed raw last Monday and we're waiting for this Monday for it to be aired for the first time. You knew what time this event started. So, no, I don't, I have no sympathy whatsoever, not even a smidget of it. And then you still came in. So what did you expect us to just sit there and talk about what might have been? What would have been the better result? That's hilarious.
Starting point is 00:24:02 Yes. Let's talk about Game Bread. Oh, boy. Again, I think you all are very well aware of how I feel about GameBred Bear Knuckle MMA. I think it's a great concept. I think it's what this landscape needs. needs. I think this is the, this could be like the underground promotion. Like if they just be themselves and don't try to mimic anybody else, like this could be successful. What ruined their
Starting point is 00:24:34 first run is they try to do too much and they were booking like NBA arenas and it just was they were trying to get too big and the minds behind it and I don't even think I blame Mazadol for this is like you need to be small. You need to have like an eclectic group of people in there like yelling and screaming. I've compared it for years on the on the year end BTLs where we talked to the promotional airing of grievances. Greenbread Bear Knuckles should have been the ECW of MMA. Like and I liked the setup last night. Whatever. I forget the name of the arena in Miami. But it was like a small setup, maybe a.
Starting point is 00:25:22 maybe a thousand people. I don't even know if you could fit a thousand people in there. But it was awesome. That's exactly what you need. However, the actual, like,
Starting point is 00:25:31 audio production last night was atrocious. It was really, really bad. Jimmy Smith, and I actually, I saw a lot of people like dumping on Brendan Chobb last night. I actually thought Brendan did a pretty good job.
Starting point is 00:25:43 I don't love the post-fite interviews. I think you probably should bring somebody else into the post-fight interviews. But as far as, like, him color-commentating, I thought it was okay. Jimmy Smith's the man. You could probably go without Bubba Jenkins, and I'll explain why at a minute.
Starting point is 00:25:58 The thing I really liked about them, especially when they did their return show yesterday, was they were like the opposite of dirty boxing. Like dirty boxing, you could see what they're trying to do. They came in guns blazed and dirty box, and they were put on fun cards. They were letting the events do the talking. And then they somehow could not get the bigger names anymore and they try to create personalities but they wanted to draw attention to their shows
Starting point is 00:26:27 by bringing in like social media personalities that very few people care about that are not combat sports fans and then you know bring in the celebrities and then bring in the tates and all that stuff like stuff no like no fight fan actually cares about they run like Dirty Boxing wants to highlight
Starting point is 00:26:46 the interviews with the celebrities as like the draw to the event as opposed to the fights. And they'll deny that, but that's how one person looking on the outside sees it. And unfortunately, watching Gamebred last night, they did the same thing. And it bummed me out.
Starting point is 00:27:03 You just had Brennan Jenkins come out and just asked the same three questions. He forgot, Yo, Romero's fighting in the main event during one of, during his interview with Terrence McKinney. Like, you can't do that. Have your own personality do your own thing. and I was bummed out watching it last night because I was like, man,
Starting point is 00:27:20 I was like, you're just trying to be dirty boxing with the broadcast. And you have to have your own personality. You have to do your own thing. You got to be different. Ring announcer was a little extreme too. You know, if you're going to take one thing from dirty boxing, you should take Michael Hanson
Starting point is 00:27:36 because that dude rocks. He's very good at his job. And this guy was very passionate. I'll give him credit for it. But he was just like, screaming with every announcement last night. It was just getting to be a little too much. But yes, we got your, the night ended the way it's supposed to end.
Starting point is 00:27:53 Y'all Romero squashing the guy. Broke his jaw. Like, that's how you want the night to end. Your Romero must pose. That's what you wanted. The Luis Palomino ending to that fight with Darrell Horcher was a little strange. There are some heavyweighty, heavyweight fights on this car, but there's some good stuff along the way, too. Work to do.
Starting point is 00:28:14 No doubt about it. they got to brush up this production, man. They have to do it because your fights can be cool and you can book as many names as you want. But you got to draw eyeballs to it. You got to let people know that this thing's actually happening. And then once they actually tune in, it is your job to make them want to come back
Starting point is 00:28:34 and watch the next one. And if the production and the broadcast is not a good time, you're not going to get people to come back even if it's free. Like how many people are going to give up Friday nights to be like, you know what, I have to watch this. Like, you have to make a good first impression. So I will never give up on them, at least for now.
Starting point is 00:28:53 But, yeah, it was a tough one, man. Some good, some bad. The right result happened at the end, I guess, for most people. But the Brandon Jenkins stuff was tough, man. Him forgetting you all Romero's name was really rough. But it was just like, hey, welcome to GameBred. How you feel? Like, you have Amanda Nunes there.
Starting point is 00:29:15 You're interviewing Amanda Nunes. as much as you want to put over game bread, you don't want to ask her about Kayla at all? Like that, to me, was just like, what are we doing? What is happening here? That's how you get people to tune in. Like, you get Amanda to cut a promo on there? Like, the websites will write it up.
Starting point is 00:29:38 They'll link it. That's how you get more eyeballs on it. Any chance for not gets re-signed by the UFC? Probably not. Unless, like, they go, to where he lives and a fight falls out. Rafael Lovus with the further Nelson on Anthony and Jokwani was pretty cool. That was very cool.
Starting point is 00:30:05 That was very cool. Vibed setup was definitely better. I agree. That's what it should be every time. Oh, it's unrivaled arena. Now it just popped in. I think it called the unrivaled arena. That needs to be like their home base.
Starting point is 00:30:16 And if you travel, it needs to be that. 500 seats, a bunch of knuckleheads in there yelling and screaming. Like that's what you need. and maybe just like avoid the crowd shots. No one gives a shit who's in the crowd. Like, Shaq being there is kind of cool. You don't need to interview him, but him just being there's kind of cool,
Starting point is 00:30:36 but we don't need like the still shots of people on their phones in between fights. Like, there are certain things. I'm just like, what are you doing? Armagh, with Prattis winning and setting himself up for a title shot soon, either next or after Gary versus Islam, who would you think would give Islam a tougher fight
Starting point is 00:30:57 between Gary and Prochis. Oh, that's a tough question. Probably Gary. Probably Gary, because he's a better grappler than Pratchez. I mean, that's how I have to lean at that point. But, yeah. But Prochers still kick him right in the legs and punch him in the face, man, and cause a lot of damage.
Starting point is 00:31:36 But I think Gary is just like the more complete fighter, but Prochus is such a dangerous cat, man. I mean, even ask Gary. I thought he's cruising for a win and then Pratchez almost got him out of there in the last round. I laughed when I left every time the ring announcer yells fighting.
Starting point is 00:31:52 Love that guy. I don't have a problem with him announcing fighting. It was just him yelling everything. Everything. The mic issue wasn't saying, yeah. The mic kept cutting out. It was tough. It was a tough watch.
Starting point is 00:32:06 I was like, no. Because they had like such good momentum after the first event, I thought. Do you think Steve Versaig is another impressive win away from a possible title shot? God, no. He's very far away.
Starting point is 00:32:32 He's very far away. They, he got his shot and then lost a couple more. Like, he's got a long road before he gets back.
Starting point is 00:32:50 Speaking of an answer, I thought Martinez was great on UFC tonight. Oh, Joe? Yeah, Joe's always great. I always thought Bellator should have like, you know, there were certain things like,
Starting point is 00:33:02 they were overpaying, fighters for stuff. I was like, no, no, no, no, no. You need to open up the bank account for Joe Martinez. I know they had Michael C. Williams. They're very loyal to him, but like, dude, go get Joe. Guys so good. Uh, take a couple more than we'll get out of here. I would like see JDM fight the winner of Buckley and Brady next. Yeah, maybe. I can't think about this, because I'm not going to, probably not going to match me tomorrow for, uh, for JDM. Let's figure this out now. Um, Malat actually makes a lot of sense right now.
Starting point is 00:33:49 Actually, that's, actually that's exactly what you do. You give him, you do Mike Malat. Because I think, like, I think at this point, you have to give Mike. Because JDM's going to drop to like five. I think you got to just throw him to the wolves and see what happens. And I think beating a top five guy who once held the belt, they could do something with that. Like, they're going to give,
Starting point is 00:34:18 they're going to push him a lot. They're going to give him a chance. No matter what happens in this next fight, they're going to give him a shot. So I don't, I don't mind JDM versus Mike Malott if they're going to do something. But I also want to see JDM take some time.
Starting point is 00:34:35 He got the, he got his ass beat tonight, or today. Like, give that, give him a breather. Benevitas Ramirez, absolutely. It's going to be very fun.
Starting point is 00:34:52 Feed JDM to DRA. maybe. Do they push Killin? Now he's likely 12. No. I don't think you push him too fast.
Starting point is 00:34:59 Because again, we don't know how good he is. He's still very young. So, I like the Gamrod. I like the Gamrod. Call out. Did you catch the NUA fight?
Starting point is 00:35:14 I did. I was live blogging it. Very fun. Well, I might say it was very fun. It got fun down the stretch. The last like five rounds were fun. But it was tense. and I like when the big fight feels feel like really tense
Starting point is 00:35:29 like something big could happen at any time. That's kind of the vibes I got from it. So anyways, really good. It was a fun fight. Again, especially down the stretch, like Nakatani got after it. Once Nakatani started opening up and started getting aggressive, things got real fun. But then anyway, I thought his 11th round was spectacular.
Starting point is 00:35:55 and then the 12th round is even better. I gave Nakatani two rounds. I scored it 10-2 for Inouay, but as I wrote in the live blog many times, it was just like, don't let the score fool you. Outside of like maybe three rounds, the rounds were really, really tight,
Starting point is 00:36:16 really, really close. And it's just like one guy just did a little bit more activity than the other guy. But yeah. But the boxing stuff, man DeZone was horrendous Today It was horrendous
Starting point is 00:36:31 That main card First of all They advertised the main card Starting like two hours prior To when it actually started And then they figured things out And then once the broadcast started For the main card
Starting point is 00:36:47 It took 20 It took almost 30 minutes For the first fight to start I actually put out a tweet I was like come on Like, let's move this thing along, DeZone. And someone who works for DeZone was like, it's not DeZone's fault. It's, uh, it's the promoter's fault.
Starting point is 00:37:03 I'm like, all right, whatever. Um, and then I responded with, so is the technical difficulties all card long? The promoter's fault too? Because I was having a really hard time watching that event. They had so many tech issues. We went through like almost an entire fight. We went through almost a whole fight without a, without a, without a, A clock without a countdown clock.
Starting point is 00:37:27 It was crazy. Even in the main event, like multiple tech issues where the hard cam, the main cam kept coming out and we had to go to that full screen that we watched for the first 30 minutes of the main card of them like wide in the shot, like with the shot at the ring. Man.
Starting point is 00:37:49 But the entrance is, if... Go watch the fight because like, Inouay, It's just the man and Nakatani is just really good too. But go watch the entrances. Those are sick. Inoua's entrance is awesome. The string quartet. And then they had the live performance for the, like right when Inoua walked out.
Starting point is 00:38:14 And I wrote the song down because I always forget it because I, it's, I always forget, like, to hear it. A battle without honor or humanity. The live performance of that was sick. That was very, very fun. So, yeah, go watch the entrances. The fight was just two high-level guys fist-fighting each other. And there's never anything really wrong with that. And, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:41 But tonight, there's more boxing. We mentioned the Benavides-Ramirez fight. PFL, Sioux Falls tonight, karate combat tonight. Lots of things going on. So a very busy day in the combat sports world. And then. AK and I will put a bow on UFC Perth tomorrow morning on onto the next one. And then we are on officially the road to UFC 328, which, man, I'm super fired up for.
Starting point is 00:39:08 I am super fired up for UFC 328. It's not even like the main event. And like, I know the UFC is going to push the heat between these two guys. I don't even care about it. I really don't care about Strickland and Shemayev scrums and what they're saying. about each other. I really could not care. I can't, I don't care. I just want to see these guys fight at this point. I don't need a press conference. I don't need anything. So that fight rocks, Van Tira rocks. Volkov Almeida's very interesting, or I'm sorry, Volkov, Waldo Cortez-Costa,
Starting point is 00:39:43 Sean Brady, Joaquin Buckley. I spoke with both of those guys, really fun chats. Sean Brady told me something in our interview, and I'm not going to spoil it, that like blew my mind. Could not believe. I was like, what? What did you just say? And it floored me, honestly. So look for that next week. Buckley was actually really fun. You never know.
Starting point is 00:40:07 You never know what you get with a walking Buckley interview. But, you know, I think at first he was like, okay, we're doing interviews for fights. Okay. And then we started cooking. We started talking about the movie undisputed with Wesley Snipes and Bing Rames. And then everything just turned into like a very positive. place. But that fight's really interesting. King Green, Jeremy Stevens,
Starting point is 00:40:29 Atabigote, Ozzy Diaz, Joel Alvarez, Yaroslav, Amasov, just kind of buried on the prelims, and that fight rules. Grant Dawson, Batush Rebetsky, Jim Miller, Jared Gordon, age-appropriate matchmaking. Roman Coppulov, Marco Tullio, Pat Sabatini, William
Starting point is 00:40:45 Gomi, our guy, Jimmy Suss, Misenioras, Sicaiah versus Jordan Santos, and then Clayton Carpenter versus Jose Ochoa. 328's going to be a very, very fun card. not much to complain about all positivity here and then uh yeah may and then we're we're rolling right into back to the apex ufc giving us a card on may 16th kind of a throwaway but a sick main event uh melchi costa versus arnold allen really fun fight just everyone's going to be watching the
Starting point is 00:41:17 the netflix card but yeah and then we're we're rolling to the white house and rolling international fight week. So this is always like a really fun time to be a combat sports fan. So hope you guys enjoyed it. If you woke up super early like I did, hopefully it was worth your time. You're happy you woke up.
Starting point is 00:41:38 You enjoyed the boxing and you enjoyed the UFC Perth event. And if you can take a nap, go take a nap. Get ready for PFL Sioux Falls and David Benavides and Ramirez. And if you're just like, I'm just going to chill. Don't really need to watch it. Don't worry. M.Afighting.com.
Starting point is 00:41:56 Terrific website. You can follow along, live results for both of those events. And we'll keep you posted on everything that is going down. So again, A.K. and I back tomorrow. On to the next one. Quick podcast, recapping UFC Perth and the matchmaking going on following this event.
Starting point is 00:42:14 And, you know, then it's onwards and upwards to UFC 328. So thank you very much for watching. Have a great rest of your week. weekend. I am out of here. You guys are all the best. We'll see you later on.
