it's time for some money rehab. Hey friends, I wanted to check in on you. I wanted to take a minute to give you space to reflect on how you're feeling amidst all of the darkness that's going on
in this world, and also give you a sense of where I'm at. I'll start with the second piece first.
When the attacks happened in Israel on October 7th, they told you that I had scrapped all
of the episodes I had ready to air and would dedicate my platform to reporting on Israel
for a week.
Well, that week happened, and I put out an episode on Israel every day.
And then another week went by, and that was another five episodes.
And then all this week, which brings me to today, my 15th episode on the crisis in Israel.
I want to acknowledge something. This is not the content you signed up for when you hit subscribe
to Money Rehab. You signed up for a show that promised to deliver daily financial tips and
tricks to make your financial life better. But these attacks shook the world, and they shook me to my core. The pain and the suffering
has weighed so heavily on my heart. I am Jewish, I am Israeli, and my connection to these attacks
is so deeply personal. You might have even heard me say in our episode with foreign policy expert
Dan Senor that these attacks made me believe that I should have children. That is how
deeply personal this is for me and all the Jewish people. The skill I've fine-tuned over my career
is the ability to untangle complicated financial realities into a way that makes people interested
and engaged. I had to offer that skill to be of use to Israel, to talk about the money trail of these attacks
and how you can use your dollar to defend human lives. I felt a responsibility to use my platform
in this way, and I had hoped it would make a difference. But I also know that I made a
commitment to you, and I take my commitments very seriously. I committed to help you make
your financial life better. starting now I'm going
to start bringing back the episodes I had swept aside to make space for these conversations and
lessons on Israel this doesn't mean that I'll never talk about Israel again because part of
my mission as a financial educator is to unpack how these big global crises affect the global
economy and thus affect you and this crisis is far from over.
It also doesn't mean that I've talked Israel out of my system and can just resume business as normal.
None of this is normal.
And I am still not okay.
But in Judaism, there is a beautiful concept of Tikkun Olam,
which represents the different forms of action intended to repair and improve
our world. And as a Jewish person, you're raised to believe that you can and need to do whatever
you can to improve the world. Financial literacy is how I do that. We're up against a lot of
challenges right now, all of us. We are deeply divided. The future is scary and uncertain. But money remains a powerful tool
to navigate these uncertain times. And I hope that through demystifying the financial world,
I'm making a positive impact on your life. Because I know that a world in which people
are better equipped to build brighter financial futures for themselves and their communities
is a more stable world. So I want to thank you. Thank you for
listening to these episodes, for checking in on your Jewish friends and all your friends affected
by the tragedies of the last few weeks, for doing what you can, whether it's donating to a humanitarian
cause or posting on social media or having meaningful conversations with people in your life.
Thank you. I am so grateful that though this journey of life is complicated and hard,
I'm on it with you.
Typically, I end our episodes with a money tip,
but today I want to end it with a minute of silence and reflection.
I want to use that minute to honor the lives that were lost on October 7th and since,
and to commit to the idea of tikkun Olam, that we can all affirm to do
all we can to improve the world. you you you
