Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm Nicole Lappin, the only financial expert you don't need a dictionary to understand. It's time for some money rehab. I know what you're thinking. WTF, Lappin, where have you been? Well, some of you might be thinking that. Probably the OGs are thinking that. And some of you are brand new to the podcast. And if that's you, welcome. You are on the road to financial independence, and I am thrilled to be your GPS. But let me take a sec to get back to my OGs. Hi again, fam. It feels so, so good to be back here with you. And let me connect the dots because last time we were together here on the show, I told you that we were taking a break and I wasn't sure when or even if we'd come back.
Starting point is 00:00:50 I know it was like a total cliffhanger. Well, a lot has changed since then. I actually bought my show back from the network it was on. Now, why the heck would I do that? Why would I want to leave a gigantic, well-resourced, big media company with hundreds of shows and radio stations just waiting to promote money rehab? Good question. After 400 episodes, my contract was up, which was a natural time to reflect. It's like when your free Disney Plus trial is over and you think, hey, did I actually watch Lion King enough times to get my ROI on this subscription?
Starting point is 00:01:26 Lion King enough times to get my ROI on this subscription? If you know me, you'll know this about me. And if you don't, you soon will. I am a big proponent of being the boss. And I felt that while the network partner I was working with was great, I had the opportunity to put my money where my mouth is. So I decided to buy my show back because that is what boss bitches do. But I didn't stop there. At that point, a perfectly reasonable thing to say would be, wow, I've done 400 episodes. Is it time to slow down? That would have been very reasonable, but that wasn't my reaction. Instead, I thought, what more could I do? And the answer I came up with was start your own network. Seriously.
Starting point is 00:02:08 And that's what I did. It's called Money News Network. And you'll see the new logo in the top corner of the Money Rehab cover art. And I really hope you like it because those three letters in that little period took a maddening number of iterations to get perfect for you. Again, why did I do all this? Well, I've been in business a long time and I've seen a lot of financial news outlets do a really, really excellent job of reporting on financial issues. But I haven't seen any financial news outlets taking it one step further, not only reporting on financial issues, but working to solve them. That is the goal of Money News Network. The goal is not only to cover the world of money, but to make it a better place. And I know that sounds cheesy, but I actually hate cheese and
Starting point is 00:02:58 that's why I'm vegan. But I don't know another way to say it. It's true. I am committed to being a champion for financial literacy and bridging the wealth gap once and for all. And I wanted to bring that same mission to the network. So how are we going to do that? Well, we have a lot of exciting things in the works, but the big picture is we're creating content that cuts through the typical finance jargon and democratizes pathways to wealth typically reserved for finance bros that work on Wall Street. We're doing that first and foremost with a slate of podcasts dedicated to enriching your life in every sense of the word, including a show that used to be called Hush Money that was co-hosted by Jason Pfeiffer, editor-in-chief
Starting point is 00:03:40 of Entrepreneur Magazine. Along with Money Rehab, I also bought Hush Money's IP, and Jason and I are going to relaunch the show with a brand new title, Help Wanted, where we'll have the career conversations that will make your work work for you. And we'll also talk to the actual hiring teams at the most sought-after employers to hear how you can get your dream job there. Help Wanted launches next week. And just in case you haven't heard too much of my voice already, I've linked that in today's show notes. Also launching next week is a show all about investing called We Have Options, hosted by personal finance expert Dominique Broadway. Dominique is an incredible disruptive
Starting point is 00:04:21 voice in the financial literacy space. I have wanted to work with her for so long now, and I am truly obsessed with her and the show. Dominique's show will teach you how to make money in the market through advanced trading tactics, whether you've never invested before or if day trading is your full-time job. Later this quarter, the rest of our amazing slate launches. And let's just take a minute to appreciate this phenomenal lineup, if I don't say so myself. We have a business show hosted by founding partner of Halogen Ventures, Jesse Draper, a financial true crime show called Dirty Money, a show on becoming self-made hosted by veteran TV exec Nellie Gallan, who is also doing episodes in
Starting point is 00:05:03 English and in Spanish, and an investing show hosted by Peter Tuchman, aka the Einstein of Wall Street and the most photographed stockbroker of all time. Seriously. And I also just want to take a second in this pinch me moment. I want to share it with you. When I was putting together this network, I put down a list of all of the people that I believed were the best minds in business, career, and finance. And I pitched them on this network, this brand new network. And they all said yes. And trust me, this doesn't happen.
Starting point is 00:05:36 I wrote seven pitches thinking maybe half would say yes. I mean, pitches are like weddings, right? You never know who's going to RSVP yes because a big chunk will typically come back as no's. But we got only yeses. So I am so honored and thrilled to be working literally with my first string of varsity hosts, the best people I could possibly imagine when I was ideating what this network would look like. And I can't wait to share their shows with you.
Starting point is 00:06:05 As you can probably tell, I am so excited about this network and for this mission. I'm a little scared too, if we're being honest, and that's the only way I know how to be. It's always scary to start something from scratch, right? And it's just compounded by the fact that, well, your reputation and a lot of your money is on the line. And yes, as of right now, I have funded the network by myself completely. It is a lot of money, money that I could have put into index funds and chilling. But this is a different kind of investment. It's an investment in me and it's an investment in you. And that has the most rewarding ROI. So that is the life update that brings me to today, and more importantly, to next week when
Starting point is 00:06:53 Money Rehab will be back daily once again, bringing you everything you need to know about the world of financial news, how it affects you, and how you can get an edge on the ever-evolving financial world. We've got a lot to catch up on, and I cannot wait to be back starting this Monday, January 2nd. Until then, well, I was going to say, don't do anything with your money. I wouldn't do, but I actually booked a trip to Peru to do ayahuasca in the midst of a bout of national unrest and warnings from the State Department. So instead, I will say have a very, very happy New Year's Eve. Be safe. Do you. And I'll see you in 2023 to help you get over whatever spending hangover you might have.
