After 18 years of coaching and consulting high-level executives and entrepreneurs,
I've uncovered seven critical elements to help you elevate your presence and to command any room
that you walk in. Whether you're leading a meeting, you're on a Zoom call, or you're actually
on a physical stage presenting. Mastering these essentials is key to capturing attention and
establishing authority no matter what room you are in. You're listening to MoreStyle,
a podcast to help you transform your image and transform your influence.
Hi, if you don't know me, my name is Celeste Moore. I'm a color and style expert. I help
entrepreneurs and C-suites master and discover their own unique style so that they can command
any room they walk in. When I first started out as an image consultant over 18 years ago,
I didn't know anything about business or entrepreneurship. And I first started working
with coaches, doctors, lawyers, people in the business community. And as I was helping my
clients, I realized that this transformation of creating and building this image was also
helping myself as I was helping my clients. It was truly transformational work and I realized
how important this is and how much I wanted to help others. I started attending networking groups,
going to meetings, any place that I could meet somebody so that I could start practicing
this powerful work. My very first client was still to this day one of the most successful men I've
ever consulted on. He used to hire me three to four times a year to go shopping for him at
Bloomingdale's or Saks Fifth Avenue. He had lost 10 pounds and he would gain 10 pounds. And this
was kind of the whole like three years of his journey with me. And sometimes he would just be
visiting a lot of islands with his wife. And so he needed a different type of wardrobe for that.
and we would go shopping
and I would pick all of the items out for him,
the shirts, the pants, the jackets, whatever it was
and I would have him take all his items
into the dressing room and have him try it on.
See, when my client comes out with an outfit,
I want to educate.
I wanna describe to them what works, what doesn't
and I like to show my client, look in the mirror.
I wanna show you what works
and this client of mine
would never look at himself in the mirror
And I just thought that was the most odd thing.
You know, people want to look at themselves in the mirror and he just never would.
But I didn't push it because I just figured this wasn't a comfortable thing for him.
And this went on for another year and a half.
The next time I gave him a white pair of jeans and a blue linen shirt, he was heading
to the Caribbean with his wife.
I said, here, go try this on.
Oh, he opens the curtain.
I said, look, look at yourself in the mirror like I always do.
look at how amazing this blue is it brings out your eye color and these jeans fit your body type
so well and you know what he did he looked at himself in the mirror and I about died I was so
happy I could not believe he actually looked at himself and he not only did he look at himself
but he looked in the mirror and he said yes this does look really good on me and see my friends
this is why I do what I do to help discover and find my client's true self, just as I found my
true self as I was going through this journey. It's truly transformational. Now, the seven
critical elements that I'm going to talk to you about, there's no order to these, but I want you
to understand they're all important so that you know how to command presence in any room.
and it comes down to confidence.
One of the seven critical elements is dining etiquette.
Whether you're going to a networking meeting
for lunch or dinner or you're on a date
or you're just simply out with friends,
dining etiquette is really important
that you know at least the basics.
I understood that I needed to learn the basics
because I was taking clients out for lunch and dinners.
now I have this one story of a man that we were out to lunch and he started picking his teeth
with a steak knife I about died I was so embarrassed not for only myself but for him
and I realized I think we're gonna have to have a coaching session on etiquette now having proper
etiquette allows someone to understand that you have class and you have manners so after that
lunch meeting we were able to talk about what went wrong and I did it in a very nice way because
you never want to come across as over critical especially as an image consultant but things need
to be addressed and that's why people hire me. You needed to understand that this was not an
appropriate tool to pick your teeth and honestly you should not pick your teeth until you get to
the bathroom. It can be gross to a lot of people and you need to come across as having manners
and class. Can you imagine if you were on a date and this happened? I mean, you would probably run
for the door. Which fork do you grab when a salad comes out and you have multiple forks?
Which fork do you grab when you have an entree and you have multiple forks?
So I'm going to give you a couple tips and this is what I learned. These are basic tips. So if you
are entertaining clients or dating frequently, going to high-end restaurants, please brush
yourself up on more than this. Always start from the outside in when you're eating. So if you have
a little fork, a big fork, it doesn't matter. Outside in as your entrees keep coming. Now,
which cup do you drink out of? Is it on your left side? Is it on your right side?
It should always be on your right side, whether it's a water, wine, cocktail. And on your left
side should be the bread plate. Now if a spoon is put in the front of your plate or bowl, that is a
dessert spoon usually or dessert fork. Make sure that you're always putting your napkin in your
lap before you eat or drink. As soon as you sit down, you should be in your lap and it should be
folded in half where the corner of the napkin is always available for you to put some food in it
if you need to spit it out within a very nice way
where nobody can see,
or just dab your mouth with a napkin.
Why does this matter?
Well, my friends, if you're out to dinner
or out to lunch with a client and they see this,
trust me, this may not seem like a big deal,
but it's a big deal.
So use your manners.
Please brush up on your dining etiquette more
if you find that you're out and about
with more clients or dates.
Number two, that second critical element is dating etiquette.
For two and a half years, I was a dating coach.
And let me tell you, I learned so much about dating and etiquette.
Now, I learned this as a matchmaker.
I was certified years and years ago.
And as a dating coach, you learn about all of the things that you need to teach your clients.
Now, who would have thought dating etiquette?
What is that?
See, 20 years ago it was quite different than it is today, but there's still elements of proper dating etiquette.
And that is, number one, communication.
If you're going to be late for a date or something happened, even if it's five minutes,
send a text or a quick call letting that person know you're going to show up late.
It's called etiquette, a.k.a. manners.
If you decide that you're just not going on this date for whatever reason,
Maybe you're sick. Maybe your kid's sick. Maybe you just had second thoughts and you're not going.
Please communicate that to the person that expects you to show up to that place that you
are wanting to meet them at a restaurant or an event. It's proper etiquette. Take ownership for
your faults. If you did something that was your fault, take ownership. Don't gaslight. Gaslighting
today is really when you're flipping the script on someone. Don't do that. Please understand that
we're all human. We all want to be loved. We all want to be respected and trusted. And so when you
are gaslighting another person, it's actually very offensive. Another thing, another rule to
dating etiquette is have fun. There's so much pressure on interviewing people. Please don't
do that either. Don't interview. Have a good time. Get to know this person. Do you like them?
Are you vibing with them? Is the energy where you like it to be? Do you have conversations? Do you
have banter? So keep those things in mind. Do not lead anybody on. Let's be honest. Who has time for
games men women men especially games are not a thing nobody wants to be wasted nobody's time
wants to be wasted we all have important lives and today things are just happening at a faster
and faster level so please do not lead anybody on now this is a big one guys especially for men
rejection is redirection think about that again i'm going to say it again rejection
is redirection. Rejection is usually about the other person, has nothing to do with you. Maybe
they're going through a complicated divorce. Maybe they're not quite out of a situation. Maybe they're
just not ready. Honestly, 99% it has nothing to do with you. So just know that you'd rather them
reject you or say no and you be with the person that you're supposed to be with, allowing you
that space. Communicate how you are planning to date. Now, what do I mean by that? Some people
date strictly for marriage. Some people date just for fun. And other people are just getting back
into the dating game. They are all okay. And please, again, just be honest when you're meeting
people. That's all. And that person can take it or leave it. That might be for you. They might not
be for you. Dating can be daunting. So when you keep to these etiquette rules, when you communicate,
when you're honest, when you're respectful, at the least, at the very least, have fun,
then honestly, dating shouldn't be such a challenge. Okay, that third critical element
is business etiquette. Yes, you heard me, business etiquette. Have you ever received an email or a
phone call and you forgot about it because why we all are inundated with emails today.
See, back 18 years ago when I got certified as an image consultant, it used to be that you could
take 24 to 48 hours to get back to that phone call or the person. But now today, things move at such
a faster rate that it just takes a minute for someone to move on to the next person. So for
example, if I called a company to see if they had availability to service my home, nobody answered,
nobody got back to me, then I would move on to the next company. So taking that second to say,
you know what, I received your email. I'm very busy. I will get back to you in say a few hours
or say tomorrow. Just that extra email or correspondence will make or break a deal today.
I always say be 10 to 15 minutes early for meetings, for anything that you have coming
up, because honestly, whether you're looking for that promotion or you're looking to land
that million dollar client, if you're early, they'll notice.
That means you're punctual.
You're going to follow through for them.
It sends all the right green flag messages to those potential clients.
Also, when you're showing up, it shows that you respect people.
Being respectful is huge in today's world, especially as an entrepreneur.
You're building relationships.
Another thing that I learned with business etiquette is send a personal touch.
So see, I used to send out email notification birthday cards to all my clients and thank
you cards.
And honestly, everything is so inundated with emails today that emails are often overlooked.
And so I learned from my speaking coach to handwrite written notes.
I'll solve that out.
I learned from my speaking coach to handwrite notes.
They're much more personal.
They leave that personal touch, which today will make or break a deal.
Whoever sends that personal touch, people will notice.
People will take notice to that.
And believe me, when I got my first handwritten note just recently,
I was blown away and how important I felt where if I got an email you know it seems a little less
personal and in business we are building relationships so how you build those relationships
is going to be powerful that's just one example another example is to remember your client's son
or husband's birthday not their birthday but their husband's because wow they remembered when we had
that conversation that one time about my husband and how important my husband is to me do you see
how different that is than just sending a birthday card to them so keep in mind that those conversations
that you have with everybody that you meet is potential to be a client but be genuine and be
authentic and be personal. So I want to talk about Jeff Fenster. See, he's a serial entrepreneur,
very successful entrepreneur, and he started the company Everbull. Very, very smart guy. He always
says he's the dumbest guy in the room I've seen, but he's not. I've seen this man speak a few times
and the one thing that he taught me about business etiquette, if you will, the first rule in his
company is to have fun and make friends and you're like okay that sounds really professional
but it is that make friends is anyone that you interact with how can you help that person
who can you connect that person to and you start building what he calls relationship or relational
capital see that goes into your bank as relationship capital because one day you're
going to need to tap into that and ask someone a favor. And if you have built all of these
relationships and created these contacts for all these other people, that will be helpful to you
one day when you actually need help from someone. That's very, very powerful and it's something that
I've not forgotten and I've used wisely. Thank you, Jeff Fenster. Remember in business, do not
only show up timely and punctual, actually early, leave a personal touch to potential clients and
existing clients. Think of ways to build your relationship capital. Make sure that you're
getting back to people on a timely manner. Make sure that you are speaking well, you come across
confident, and you're going over and above. That is great business etiquette. That fourth critical
element to command any room is body language let's talk about body language i have coached
over hundreds of men and over 50 women when it comes to dating so i had this client hire me one
time and he actually was not successful at dating and he was like i don't understand i've gone on
like a hundred dates. I've been all different types of women. I've really stretched my values,
my beliefs, just to see like what is happening. And after we dug deep and uncovered what was
happening, it was his body language. At the end of the day, he was slouching. He wasn't looking
into his date's eyes like this. And he was speaking really soft. And I told him, this says
you're not confident you're not really wanting to be there you're not really interested in her
and so of course you're not going to have a second date or of course she's making excuses to leave
early so we really had to tap into why he he felt really nervous and uncomfortable but at the end of
the day we figured it out and we worked on it and he was able to sit up straight walk through the
him with confidence with his head held high smile look someone directly in her eye and speak up he
just did not know what he wanted and so he wasn't sure of himself but after the fact he was landing
not only multiple dates but now his girlfriend i also had this guy who didn't know how to read
if a woman was into him see this could be confusing with the male and female women figure
it all out, right? No, I'm just teasing. But men, this particular man, he had a really hard time to
tell. And so I said, well, is she smiling? Is she making eye contact and turning her body towards
you? Is her body uncrossed and open to receiving? Does she seem really engaged? Is she flipping her
hair or flirting with you having cheeky banter and he was like oh well no this person wasn't
or this person was and really helping him understand those body language cues of what was
the message that she was trying to send him was huge and so now he doesn't second guess
and my friends too if you're second guessing you can always ask a question so anyways we're we're
talking about body language at this point confidence is key so let's chat about body
language when it comes to a networking event i've ever gone to a networking event and it's
uncomfortable because maybe you don't know the people there but you're going to walk in with
confidence no matter what you're going to make connections so you're going to shake hands firmly
you're going to make eye contact and you're going to actively listen yes those are all the body
language tips for success because when you carry yourself this way you're building trust those
people want to do business with you collaborate with you or just get to know you because they
feel that you're confident and confidence is attractive even if you don't feel comfortable
in a situation like this, you've got to push yourself. As David Goggins says, get comfortable
with being uncomfortable. One of my favorite quotes. Pay attention to the way that you're
walking in a room. Pay attention to your interactions and know that it's being received
before you open your mouth. That fifth element, that crucial element, is learning the power of
color psychology. What? Before we open our mouth, before we say anything, color is the first thing
that everybody notices. It happens within seconds, sometimes within a second. Color is energy and
color sends messages. Let me give you an example. I was working with a business coach a couple
months ago. I hired her as my business coach. And every time we jumped on a Zoom call,
she always wore black. And I just thought that was a little odd because the only people that
can wear black on the top part of their body are winter seasons. And she wasn't a winter season.
She had blonde hair, blue eyes, and she was really soft-spoken. That is the antithesis
of a winter season. And so I asked her one day, I said, is it okay if I ask you a question? She
said, of course. I said, why do you always show up to our Zoom calls in black? And she kind of was
like, oh, I guess I do do that. She says, when I think about it, it's because I don't know what
colors look best on me. I don't know what my style is. And honestly, I don't feel that confident in
being a business coach. And I was like, Ooh, okay. That's a little red flag there. And I said,
well, since you're my business coach, would it be okay if we work together to discover your style
and discover your colors? And she was all for it. And so after we discovered her styles and her
colors that were best for her, not only her personality, but her skin, eyes, and hair,
she truly was able to bring her inner energy,
her personality into her outer appearance.
She started showing up as her true self.
And then you know what?
That next month, she was able to land her first $10,000 client
because she deserved that.
But before, she wasn't showing up as she deserved that.
So that, my friends, is so powerful.
Let me take, for example, the color red.
Color is the most powerful color.
Just for example, I'm wearing red lipstick today.
Not only did I need a little bit of energy today,
of confidence, but why I'm wearing red lipstick
is not that at all.
It's to create my focal point.
Now, what's a focal point?
It is somewhere on the body
where you want someone to pay attention to.
So think if you're on a stage or you're in a Zoom call,
where do you want the audience to look at?
You usually want them to look at your face.
You want them to hear your message.
So red is on my lips for that same reason.
This is my focal point.
Navy blue is another great example.
It is the most trusting color.
Think about all the big banks.
They have navy blue in them.
A lot of them, not everyone.
Because they want you to trust them with your money.
They want you to invest in them.
So next time you're getting in front of an audience,
whether it's on stage, whether it's on a Zoom call, whether it's in a meeting,
whether it's on a date. Think about who is your audience.
The next thing you should think about is what is the message you want to send.
Then wear the proper color. Make sure you're wearing the right colors for you though.
So we all have greens, yellows, reds, blues, purples that are right for our skin, eyes,
hair and personality. So make sure you're wearing the right ones so that you can deliver your
message before you open your mouth. It will just land that much stronger when you do open your
mouth. That sixth key element to success, my friends, is quality over quantity. Always buy
the best quality you can afford. Now, that's not always a custom suit. That's not always a high-end
piece, but you can feel the difference in a good quality fabric versus a not quality fabric. And
if you can't, that's another episode altogether. Just because it is a name brand does not mean
it's a higher end fabric. The way that you can tell is by looking at the fabric on the tag inside
of the item. Certain fabrics will wear better than others. There's also another trick and tip is that
the hand of the fabric where you can actually take your hands and rub the fabric. And if
pilling happens or the fabric starts to come undone, that's very cheaply made. Another way
is to know is when you first launder the garment, however you're supposed to, make sure you read the
label. If you're finding that the threads in the fabric are breaking down, my friends, that is a
cheap fabric. Because at the end of the day, I'm teaching my clients cost per wear. So cost per
wear is when you are purchasing an item, dividing that by how many times you wear that is actually
the cost per wear you're getting for that item. Now, why is this important? Because the quality
pieces should really be your investment pieces. It should be a peacoat, a trench coat, any kind
of outer coat that you're going to be wearing over and over and over. It's a suit, or a sport
coat, or a pant, or a pencil skirt, or a sheath dress. Even nice shoes and belts should be well
made. Now, I had this client a couple months ago, and she's obsessed with all the high-end designers,
Gucci, Prada, Dior. It doesn't matter about what the name, what the designer is. If it's a high-end
designer, she wants that item. Now, over the years and very recently, even high-end designers are
making pieces with cheaper fabrics. It might say made in Italy. That doesn't mean that it's always
well made where it used to. So pay attention to the hand. Pay attention to what the fabric is
because this could be a fabric that could last or not last even with a designer.
That seventh critical element that I have learned over these 18 years
is discovering your personality DNA.
What is that?
Your personality DNA has a lot to do with who you are as an individual.
Do you have ying or yang energy?
Are you more extroverted or introverted?
What are the hobbies you enjoy?
What's your profession?
How do you come across in camera?
How do you come across?
How is your voice?
Are you excited?
Do you have bubbly energy?
Are you quiet?
Are you introverted?
Are you a little bit of everything?
Knowing these things about yourself is the first step in a 4x4 color analysis.
That is 16 seasons of colors.
That is the first thing because your inner energy should align with your outer appearance.
And that inner energy is your personality DNA.
The over 18 years ago, I was, there was four seasons in the color system, autumn, winter,
spring, and summer.
And because of that, I was put into the autumn category.
What does that matter?
Why do I care?
Well, I was placed in the warm category, which I have a one warm undertone.
see those darker autumn colors was subduing my inner energy my personality every time i put on
a light a very dark color my energy was darkened i was subdued and i had no idea because i didn't
find out till this january what my proper color palette was i thought i knew it and then my mentor
the owner and creator by Farielle. Her name is Farielle. She said, Celeste, no, you're not an
autumn. You are a tone spray. And she put each category up to my face. And at first I was pissed.
I was pissed because I'm an image consultant. And for 17 years, I've been living in the wrong
palette what how horrible did I feel I felt stupid I was embarrassed but honestly I didn't know
there's all the missing pieces in the new 16 season and that missing piece was me part of me
was missing now that tone spring I have more vibrant colors because I'm more vibrant in my
energy. And honestly, after that 24 hours, I was completely changed. That transformation for me was
huge. So when you're aligning your inner energy, your personality on the outer appearance is
transformational. So your personality DNA, and this is something I learned, will transform
transform your whole image. My friends, when you look good, you feel good. And when you feel good,
you are confident. You will walk through any room with confidence. When you know your colors,
when you know your style, when you know how to present yourself, whether you're dating or dining
or you're just doing business with people, you will show up as the best version of yourself
and you can command any room when you discover your style and you find your true self and you
amplify that presence you will live the life you were meant to have if you want to learn more
