I started to notice that models were getting, you know, taken advantage of or not being as
successful as they could possibly be or be burnt out in the industry. And I just really wanted to
bring the industry into more of a realistic light. The only thing that they ever really
teach us, like, just be skinny, just fit into the clothes and be skinny and really don't talk
and don't, you know, like just be a hanger.
Nobody knew I even had a personality.
So booking that TV show was huge
because then people got to see, you know,
that I'm not this like blue face stone model.
Why would I go in with fear?
I'm going to go in, command attention in the room.
Confidence is freaking key.
It is so key.
And if you can fake it until you believe it,
they're going to eventually believe it.
You're listening to More Style.
a podcast to help you transform your image and transform your influence.
Do you want to learn confidence from an international model?
Well, today I have Dani Reeves here today with me as my guest,
and she's going to talk about confidence in front of the camera.
She's going to talk about the modeling industry and what she's doing to turn it around.
So stay tuned.
Dani, thank you for being on the show today.
I'm so excited to talk to you.
Thank you so much for having me.
What an honor to be sitting here with you.
And it's been so great, like how we met and everything.
And I'm just so, I know we haven't been knowing each other for that long, but watching you on social media, I'm like so proud of everything you're doing.
Like you're needed.
Thank you.
Celeste, you really are needed.
Thank you.
Well, Dani, you have been modeling since you were a teen and you're almost 40.
Oh my gosh.
I am.
Only in a couple months.
Congratulations.
Thanks.
And you're still modeling.
I am. I am focusing actually on models access. I do book jobs still direct. I'm still people reach out for me to work. And that's not something that I want to stop doing either. I just have so many other passions as well. But I have been in the industry for over 25 years.
Wow. Impressive.
Thank you. It's been so incredible. I've lived all over the world. I've been signed with some of the most incredible agencies that we have. And with all of that, I've gained so much knowledge and experience in the industry.
And so I'm focusing on Models Access, which is my master class.
And I also offer individual sessions as well if you don't want to take a group setting.
But I've taken all that education and knowledge that I've learned, maybe not the easy way, and I wanted to create this space for these models.
Because if you think about it, models are being signed at a young age.
I was signed at 14.
Wow.
And the only thing that they ever really teach us, like, literally, I go into the agency and they're like, be fucking skinny.
Like, just be skinny.
Just fit into the clothes and be skinny and really don't talk and don't, you know, like, just be a hanger.
That's pretty much it.
The only other education that I ever learned is one time when I was in Milan, I didn't understand the transportation system.
So they gave me, like, this little intro on how to get around the city.
Other than that, there was nothing like how to prepare myself in a casting, what to – your taxes, how to build your own brand.
There was absolutely nothing.
So I started to notice that models were getting, you know, taken advantage of or not being as successful as they could possibly be or be burnt out in the industry or worse things.
You know, there's terrible things that happen that we're not talking about.
And I just really wanted to bring the industry into more of a realistic light.
And when you take the classes with me, you're, of course, going to learn many types of runway walks.
Obviously, it's really important.
If that's what you want to do, if you want to do runway, we go over runway.
we go over how to be the best poser how to be theatrical in it to bring out emotion to really
sell because ideally you are selling something so we learn all of that but I have an entire day
dedicated to the education behind it the not so glamorous parts how to build a brand how to get
those clients that you really want because you are actually in control of your career you cannot
rely on those agents and those bookers to build your career they have got so much going on and
sometimes they don't even really care about they really they there's just so much going and they're
only getting a percentage so imagine they're hustling as well you're not necessarily their
main focus especially if you're new on their board so we talk about how to do your taxes how to work
overseas, how to pick the best agency that's going to work with you that believes in you.
So I have an entire day to get dedicated. And that's really why I kind of started that
is because I have 25 years of experience being in the industry. I'm 40 and I'm still getting booked.
But I think that this is more my calling. This is something that I'm more passionate about. I
want to protect these models and yeah just there's so many ways to stay successful 25 years in the
industry and I'm still getting I'm turning down calls y'all I'm turning them down because I'm
like nope the rate's not good enough or this is not my brand I am not working like that so when
you have the chance to be able to do that you know you really you you made it so why who's teaching
them that the agencies are not who's teaching them that I can teach them that because I've been
through that and unfortunately for me but fortunate for my models i learned everything
that pretty much is going to guide them and keep them like happy and safe happy successful in the
industry and and that's that's that's powerful that's really is you're taking your 25 years of
experience and educating girls so that they don't have to i don't know men too yeah i don't models
models in general like you don't have to go through what I did you get to go like learn from
me that's brilliant yeah I mean why wouldn't you oh why wouldn't you Celeste why wouldn't you I
feel like we talk about how I'm so happy that the mentorship place is you know relevant now and
we're not embarrassed to get a coach or a mentor or somebody to really help guide us there
because how are you going to – who are you going to learn from?
And sometimes you don't want to make those mistakes.
Sometimes you don't want to be in a room where there's a freaking weirdo.
There's a lot of weird people in this industry, and do you know that?
I came from Iowa.
My graduating class was 22 people.
How was I supposed to know anything, really, anything?
But if I had somebody there to be like, you know, trust your instincts and maybe this is the direction better for you, but nobody's doing that for these models and I want to be there for them, you know?
So what makes your program different than, say, Coco Rocha or like, you know, I'm just curious.
It's funny. Coco Rocha has always been an idol of mine. I've met her many times and she is your like one of your first controversy. She like spoke up about social media and a lot of people stopped working with her because she had a voice and she used her voice.
But, dang, she is one of the best in the industries, and it makes me so angry that she's not more of a household name in the modeling industry because she is who I kind of embodied my later career in.
I loved the way she moved.
She was so knowledgeable.
I loved how theatrical.
She was a dancer.
and I when I saw that she had I love you Coco but I totally took her blueprint and I was like I can
do that I've worked with all these designers I've lived all you know I've been signed with Ford
Model Management major model management I've lived in Milan Paris I've done that why why can't I do
that. And not only that is I have a publication behind my name. So something that makes me stand
out above Coco's model camp is one, I'm not as expensive as Coco. So that's one thing. Okay.
Not yet. Not yet. Yeah, absolutely. We're going to strive for that. But
my camp is not, my masterclass is not as expensive as Coco's, but you also get the
opportunity. I put on a runway show for the models. So at the end of the entire master class,
they get to work with the designers. They get to be in a real life runway show. And it's not just
a cheesy runway show. It's at one of our incredible events with Deluxe Version Magazine because I am
editor in chief there. So we get to kind of make it our own thing. You're in a room full of movers,
shakers, really influential people. I put on a big photo shoot for them as well. And they get
a whole entire ad their own spread in the magazine and we are international so you get to be published
in a magazine uh off the bat wow that's impressive so that's kind of what makes my master class
different than coco but dang she is incredible and i can't lie like she inspired me to start this
class i love that yeah because i you know our friend i love that you know her well do you know
our friend Whitney. So Whitney had her on her podcast. Oh, she did. Oh my gosh. I have to tune
in. I love that. And a very dear friend of mine who is Australian, she lives in Sydney and she
was Miss Australia and she's coaches in the modeling space as well. And it's really cool
just to hear all of your stories and how, you know, just because you were in print or in shows,
all of that translate to being a business owner like your confidence your poise all those struggles
and the things that you learned on your own that's only going to benefit you in model success or
being a public speaker you're right and you know it's funny because you when you start off in any
industry i don't know what it is why we think that we just want to be at the top right away
but and as cheesy as this sounds it's all those experiences that you develop over the years that
brings you to like really what you are meant to be like one thing with a model is do they really
want to be a model maybe they are passionate about that but they find something in that industry
while they're modeling something that is even more more calling to them and they end up being
a stylist or a makeup artist or whatever somebody behind the scenes on the camera an editor you just
never know but those life experiences are so important to your growth yes and so a little
birdie told me that you also want to be in the public speaking space motivational speaker is
that correct do we call it motivational speaker yes okay yes um okay so i've when i was
As a little girl, we already told how old I am.
I'll be 40 in April, y'all.
Okay.
I'm 48.
Hi.
And we look amazing.
Yes.
And no one can tell us otherwise.
So.
Yes.
I love it.
When I was a kid, I don't know if you remember Mary Hart from Entertainment Tonight.
Yes.
She was my idol.
I wanted to be everything like her.
So my career, that dream that started was when I would watch her when my mom was making dinner.
It was always on.
I wanted to do entertainment um hosting I suppose well then I got to do that and I was like ah is
this really what I love like do we love that I'm not sure I really love it it was fun but I it was
like a dull passion now all of a sudden it wasn't fulfilled it wasn't fulfillment and my modeling
career took off and so it was kind of still back there but I wasn't focusing on that and then I
ended up booking a tv show and so that was really fun so that kind of started more speaking roles
for me because when you're a model you're not really talking yeah you're just like you know
a face and so no one nobody knew i even had a personality um so booking that tv show was huge
because then people got to see you know that i'm not this like blue face stone model like i actually
have a personality. I can kind of be funny sometimes a little bit. And you don't know
that when you're like this serious, serious model. So that helped with launch that idea of,
oh, I still really want to do this. And then I had started to listen to this podcast. And it's
funny. It wasn't a podcast you could watch. It was just something on Spotify. And I had went to
school and I, I have a degree in theater, but I never really used that besides throughout modeling
as well. And I was listening to this podcast and this lady was talking and she, somebody in her
audience like made a weird face. So she said something and she looked at them. I could just
visualize her looking at them. And she's like, why are you making fun of me? She's like, I always
wanted to be an actress, but I wasn't pretty enough. So this is my element here. I'm living
my dream on stage and when she said that something sparked something in me and I'm like
that is exactly what I want to do I don't know where I belong almost but I know that I have like
this excitement on stage and telling stories and I'm naturally just theatrical and I have that
degree but how am I going to use it I'm not an actress and I was like no I want to be a public
speaker i kept listening to this podcast where they showcased all these public speakers throughout
like even from the 70s he would just showcase these podcast public speakers i'm like that is
what i want to do i know i can i know i can do this and fast forward i'm talking a lot celeste
it's okay i got a lot to say we got a lot to say that's why she brought me on we got a lot to say
Fast forward that, all these little signs.
I meet you at this public speaking event.
I was like, dang, I want to do that.
So I watched you guys all on stage, soaked it all in, kept manifesting, kept telling God, kept telling the universe this is what I want to do.
I don't know what my story is, but I've got a lot to say.
And I show up to this eWomen's Network with our friend Ray.
she had to convince me to get me there but I'm so glad she did the universe once again saying go
freaking do this and I'm sitting there kind of just we're chatting along women chatting and then
they say is everybody ready for next month's conference it's our big speakonomics and we're
going to be doing our public speaking competition and whoever wins gets this mentorship with these
public speakers, blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, what did she say? And Ray looks at me, and she's
like, oh, yeah. And they're like, but your submission video has to be in in five hours.
And I was like, who has time for that? We're going to make time. So we went to the studio.
We created a three-minute submission video. And a week later, I get the email saying that I'm a
semi-finalists and i'm so excited to be on stage with these incredible these women are doctors
ceos these women mean business i'm not on a stage with like you know on amateurs yeah these freaking
women that are going to be on stage that i'm competing with are unbelievable and i'm up there
with them i'm so excited for you congratulations thanks yay thanks i wish i could come back and
cheer you on even the you know the competition the if i make the top three we go to dallas
that's because i'm like next door neighbors right i would totally come yeah you would yes
well then i have to do it because i i know the daughter so i told you um
so her name's brianna oh she's about ready to have her second baby hi brianna hi brianna love
you um she wanted me to come out for it um because i just found the connection i did i was she goes
I didn't even know you were public speaking, Celeste.
And I was like, well, now you know.
Yeah, because there's women that are coming from all over the country to speak in Las Vegas.
Dang it.
But I will try to connect to you guys.
That would be lovely.
Yeah, so we were in Mastermind together, or we met.
And, you know, she's got amazing energy.
This woman is, like, unbelievable.
And I don't know much about the EU Women Network, but I know it's huge.
and they've got chapters everywhere and i'm learning more and more um but her mom's also
yancy is amazing so yeah i am so excited for you because you just lit up like a light bulb when
you talked about this you know when you that is a sign right so if you know if you get excited and
you especially if somebody else sees the excitement in you as well that is your sign that you are on
the right track and you can't tell me otherwise there's just way too many things happening in my
life that kept telling me to keep doing this and pursue it and whether it was just an email or me
and I'm a big believer like if you just do one thing a day towards your dream you're making
progress and eventually it's going to happen for you you you have to make the effort but a lot of
that involves believing. And the one thing that I can say about our friend Ray too is when you're
doing this public speaking, you could have so much to say, but what is your story? What's going to
motivate? What's going to sell? What's going to have these clients book you at the conferences
to get you on stage so you can do this? And she really had like this crazy therapy session with
me we dug deep to find my story and i'm so freaking grateful for her as well and and this
opportunity also is to help teach you to become a better public speaker and to help develop that
story and it's so awesome i'm just so grateful excuse me i'm just i'm losing my voice that's
how excited I am about it. I'm so grateful for that. And I, and I just, yeah, I just can't
believe that everything that, you know, if you really believe it, you really can have it.
Yeah. And I had this discussion with our friend Sarah a little bit. It's like
how you're evolving and how you're developing, how your personal brand continues to develop as
you're developing is important to, to kind of like, don't stay where you're at, right. To really
kind of develop that because you are evolving. We are all evolving, but how do you see yourself?
Like, how do you see yourself now as like your personal brand? How do you see Danny Reeves?
It's taken so long. Oh my gosh. I, and I'm sure in five years, my personal brand is going to be
maybe something even different, more different than what it is now. But I think the experiences,
like we were talking earlier, the experiences that happen in your journey creates that personal
brand. And you can't expect to know right away what that is. And like I said, I'm almost 40.
This is the show about how Dani is turning 40. She looks amazing. Come on.
No, it's really all good.
I'm more confident now that I'm going to be almost four.
I'm more confident now than I ever was before.
And it's because of all those dang experiences.
God, don't take me back to my 20s.
Ew.
Who are you in your 20s?
My 20s.
I feel bad for my 20-year-old baby girls and all those guys.
Y'all, stick with it.
You got this because when you get older, it just gets better and you just know yourself more.
And I continue to watch my brand evolve and I'm not going to stay put, like you said.
I'm going to let it evolve.
And, yeah, you just can't stay stagnant, you know.
Definitely.
Well, because the world's constantly moving.
Exactly.
If you're not moving, you're dying, people.
Exactly.
You don't stay stagnant.
I used to say that.
I'm like, why are all these people just stuck, you know, and they just, they're happy or they think they're happy in this.
Like, you know, it's almost like they're in a bubble and they're just staying there.
Well, you can't be afraid of change at all.
You just can't.
Everything is, our freaking gas prices are changing.
You know, the internet is changing.
Your business has to change because of what's happening in society.
everything is always evolving and always changing and that includes yourself and um yeah yeah i
agree what has really built your confidence to say you know i'm 40 i'm confident like
more confident than ever like what can you place like three things that that have brought you there
like big three let's just say three things just say three like paramount you know things in your
life that have really created this confidence for you now? I think back of where I came from
and that little girl in Iowa. My town is less than a thousand people. And like I said, I graduated
with 22 people in my high school class. So I have to think about her and how I even got out of that
and what I accomplished because a lot of people I know are still there and there's nothing wrong
with that if they're happy there but god knew i wasn't gonna be happy there so he got me out quick
um so i have to go back to that and if you can make it out of a situation like just like that
any kind of situation whether it's trauma or no zero opportunity that's something you should be
proud of in the first place so i do go back to that a lot and you know what i was thinking about
this and maybe we could talk about this but you know when I believe that you have to somewhat
believe what people are saying about you not necessarily like in the tabloids like bad things
like if you're famous and they're talking crap about you or like not truthful things
I'm talking about the people who you surround yourself with that like are supportive of you
in the modeling industry there's so many people that are against you or or you feel like they're
against you but there are clients that end up booking you and love you and tell you that you're
great and like our friend Tim my publisher he's such a great example I could really mess everything
up somehow not that I have but I could and he would just build me up and he'll be like it's
okay, Danny, you've got this. He just builds you up. And when you surround yourself with people
who can see the greatness in you, you have to believe that. And there's been a time in my
journey where I was believing all the casting directors that would say no, or whatever it was,
I would believe them instead of all these people are like, no, Danny, you're amazing. You do this.
So I started, I'm like, you know what?
They appreciate me.
They value me.
They're encouraging me.
I'm going to believe them instead of these people who make me feel kind of crappy and not great about myself.
And once I started doing that, I realized that, you know, that you just have to believe, like, that you are special and that you can overcome everything.
So I started to believe everybody that told me that I was really freaking cool and fun and that I brought value to the table.
I just believed it because I'm like, you know what?
If you can see that, why can't I see?
You know, I've got to see that, too.
And I just started to believe that.
And so I walk into the room thinking that people are going to gravitate towards me.
I'm going to get the next client.
I'm going to get this next casting.
And you just really have to believe.
Did I answer the question, Celeste?
you did i'm like what was your what bill i feel like i'm not sure if i answered the question you
said you know i was asking you what things you know because i think my audience also struggles
with like confidence behind cameras walking into a room they're at a networking event
they get on stage girl you gotta fake it till you make it sometimes and i know we don't want
to say that but honestly like like what i'm trying to say is if you might you're gonna have a group
of people who are haters. And then you're going to have a group of people who are on. I'm going
to walk into that casting. I better believe in myself. I'm going to walk into that casting
and think that I'm going to get it. Now I'm going to have this other side of me that's going to have
tough skin and know there might be a reality that I'm not going to get this casting. I'm not going
to get this client. But why would I go in with fear? I'm going to go in, command attention in
the room and there's always that you know when you're meeting somebody you might I'm guilty of
this this imposter syndrome I know I'm a giant like I am a six foot tall woman and so when I'm
meeting somebody in my head sometimes I'll get in my head and be like oh my god they're looking at
me they're probably like look at her outfit she's annoying look at how much she's doing look at all
the jewelry she's wearing she's freaking tall she's like there's so many things there's so
many things that they might be thinking in their head she she's better than everybody you know like
you never know what that other person is thinking but I have to zone that out and be true to myself
be kind be myself be energetic I have a I have a big personality and it doesn't matter what I
think they might be thinking they also might be like look at her she's amazing I want to be
around her energy you know so confidence is freaking key it is so key and if you can fake
it until you believe it they're gonna eventually believe it yeah i agree for sure seriously i know
it sounds so horrible to say fake it till you make it but that fake it till you make it is you also
making yourself believe it if you keep telling yourself i'm awesome i'm awesome i'm awesome
look at yourself in the mirror every single day. I'm awesome. You're going to end up believing
that. Right. And that is going to spill out with everybody else. They're going to be like,
she's freaking awesome. Yeah, no, I, I agree. I totally agree. I think there is when you can be
who you truly are inside on the outside, like for people to like, you can't control what other
people think. Never good, bad, indifferent. It's never going to happen. So don't waste your time
on it yeah be who you truly are and people will gravitate you like towards you who want to be
around you yeah and the opposite for whatever like I also have a big personality not always
but sometimes and that's too much for someone that's a little bit more quiet and introverted
and I'm I'm not offended like it doesn't bother me because I know that I love myself but that
only came this year oh no way yeah I've always been confident but not truly love myself like and
today and today this year was 2024 was paramount for me and so I understand like the feeling of
you know kind of like okay I kind of like myself I like myself here I like myself here but really
looking in my mirror and saying, I love you, Celeste, was probably the weirdest and the most
awkward thing, but I can do it now because I'm so proud of myself. I'm so proud of where I've
come from, where I'm at, the things I continue to do, how I show up as a mother. And I know
as I show up as a friend, as a daughter, and I think we don't give ourselves enough,
like pat yourself on the back for how much you've done how much you show up totally you being a
mother like i there's nothing more magical there's nothing more difficult um than being that role
model being that parent and well i'm so proud of you celeste for like even admitting you know
that it's like that's part of the journey right sometimes we we don't know we don't know ourselves
sometimes we don't even take the time to really get to know ourselves. We're so busy
with this grind that we don't even really truly know who we are. It takes some people
their whole lifetime to realize, oh, I shouldn't have been working that lame job.
I should have been doing what I really wanted to be doing. And it takes that whole lifetime
of experience sometimes to really understand who you are. And I think that's okay. That's what I'm
saying like we want to get to the top we want to be the best version of ourselves right away but
all those experiences make you who you are today it it solidifies the reason that you have this
podcast it gives you credentials and credibility to be sitting here and talking to these people
whereas in your 20s you didn't have those life experiences and you're sitting on a podcast and
trying to give people advice why how who's listening I mean there are people out there
doing that but yeah it you know it takes those experiences so congratulations to you for finding
that in yourself because it's really commendable honestly and it shows i can see how confident you
i wouldn't have known that it was just this year yeah i mean 100 thought this girl is this woman
is radiant radiating confidence well you got on that stage you were you were one of my favorites
and I mean I remember that
I immediately got your
contact information I wouldn't have
known any different and that's
where we're talking about sometimes fake it until you
make it yes because you
fooled me
well I was good then but
that was the end product
but I'm so excited for your journey
I know that
this next year is going to be huge
I can't wait to hear more about
your public speaking and
model access
like all the new things for you thank you for being on today's show i want to talk about my
daughter though because she would be so upset because she actually wanted to come here and
and actually that is a huge part of my that's you know that takes up more time than anything
so she wanted to be here she's like can i bring my ipad and i'm like oh i don't know the sound
and everything so she is the freaking cutest little stinker in the whole entire world she's
my pookie pie. She has a million names, by the way. Her name is Lennon, but she gets pookie
whatever, pookie anything. But she literally is, if you're a mom, you know that that is where
your inspiration, she's my driving force, right? I wake up every morning and it's really about her.
And I just have to be the best role model that I can be for her. I'm trying to set an example.
she was student of the month this this month she was named on all a honor roll we work really hard
at home i try to make sure that she's surrounded by love and positivity but no she needs to know
that there is like a reality outside in the real world too so she um she's just a and
the best thing that's ever happened to me and she's really put life into perspective and
i can't quit i i have a daughter now i cannot quit i can't be lazy about how i look in the
morning i can't or when i'm going out she needs to see like what it is to i feel like i am her
she looks up to me so i gotta step up my game and i gotta do that for her well you're doing
an amazing job from what i see but i still the hardest the best the most like driving force
you'll ever have in your life the most humbling the most oh yeah and it's freaking hard too by
the way it's really cute they're so cute but it's really hard today i know i'm not i'm like i already
know how i was as a teenager i'm no um but she's gonna be even walking out the door today like
she had i literally was in my room for two seconds and she took all this bubble gum and had it all in
her mouth probably like 20 pieces and i'm about to walk out the door and you know her hair i'm
just thinking of her gum and this hair i'm like oh my god please help me get out of this house on
time so it's never it's a journey it's a journey but you're doing an amazing job thank you from
