Starting point is 00:00:05 Revely, revelry. Look at this now. It's what 11 a.m.? Oh, there is. You fit in seamlessly in this weird MK environment. Do you want a margarita? With two, three, two, that's it.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Your marks get set and go on. Let's be honest. None of you were going to church today anyways. Welcome, everyone, on a special Sunday edition, here on the 4th of October of morning combat. My name is Luke Thomas. I am merely one half of your hosting duo. I join you from the capital of Estatus Unitas right here in Washington, D.C.,
Starting point is 00:00:52 joined by my Connecticut brethren, who is, I don't mean, he's got two beds in there. Chuck, who's sleeping in all these beds, buddy? I'm in the capital of, you know, I don't know, some bullshit out here. I'm in Las Vegas for the weekend, Luke. You know what? I almost had a story for you, too, because I saw you tweeting about Metallica at the Sphere. And the dudes I come out here with annually, a bunch of them went to the show. They got tickets.
Starting point is 00:01:18 If I had got here like two hours earlier, I could have went to that first show at the sphere. But I didn't. So I had a near story for it. I wanted to be able to tell you that I went to the sphere to see Metallica for the first show. I saw so many people being like, oh, it looks like shit. I want to go to an open air concert. And I'm like, I don't.
Starting point is 00:01:35 I don't want to go to an open, open air concert. But like, I don't understand the sphere hatred at all. No, no, no. The times I've been there, it's been great. I saw you two there in the fights there. So I've been there twice already and it's definitely like a spec. I wanted to see Mattow. That would have been the coolest of all of it, right? Like just to see their show. But alas, I didn't make it in. Well, it's a good thing that you're bald, Chuck, going to Las Vegas because you don't have to worry about getting lice like the rest of us do. So that's always a fun thing to take off your boy. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Now, that means you were in Vegas last night. So where did you watch the
Starting point is 00:02:09 fights? Satest place on Earth, Luke. I was at the sports book. which it's uh you know i don't have commentary there's a there's a football game like being piped in so you hear that there's everybody erupting all over the place and you're just watching the fights where nothing's happening and you know in these moments very disorienting but uh at least i was able to what at least we got them to put it on there at one of the TVs so i was able to watch everything yes and i'll say this i mean the main event you know i didn't think it was bad but it wasn't a barn burner by any stretch imagination but the rest of that card chuck was insane i mean yeah i don't of this is all the records, but it's most
Starting point is 00:02:42 chaos on a card, most first round chaos on a card. Yeah, here we go. First modern UFC with six consecutive first round chaos, most first round chaos in a single event, most total chaos in a single UFC event. Before we get to actually the beginning of the show, what do you make of this? Because you look at this,
Starting point is 00:03:01 you look at like, for example, the UFC Serbia card, which had the most finishes ever for a UFC card. Why are we all of a sudden in a place where we're starting to get a lot of finishes and a lot of first round finishes. You know, I was hoping you would talk about this because it strikes, this card struck me as like, why didn't the UFC go in and say like here, the future is now? And we're going to roll out all these, these big names because they had like, what, five, six very good prospects on this card. Obviously,
Starting point is 00:03:25 you look, there's clear A sides and then there's B sides, which in for the most case, that's how it played out. I think that you're going to, I saw people complaining like this was arranged almost like a regional card where it's like you're just feeding some of these guys, uh, these, you know, know, these hot contenders or whatever it was, these named athletes, lesser opponents, and then you're going to get these types of things. I think there's something to that. I think that there's the matchmaking, but I feel like the UFC should have leaned in. And like, that should have been part of their promo was like, hey, here's all tomorrow's stars.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Boom, boom, boom, boom. Here's soul ditch coming on. We got this, this, this. And I think there would have been a completely different perception around this. And you would have watched it with like this. Oh, man, look at these crushers. And you would have set the table. You know what I mean for like their next fights coming up?
Starting point is 00:04:07 As it stands, the only reason it got criticism was, because of the main event, you know, going in and even coming out to an extent, but like, that was really the only criticism. But all their Aisides, except for Atiba Gautier, like, you know, came through with flying colors in this. When we bring in the third member here of the panel, God only knows if he's sober on a church Sunday. It's Long Island, Luke.
Starting point is 00:04:27 Long Island. Long Island. There's no. If someone had to ask me why we're getting all of a sudden just vastly more finishes than we used to get, including not just that, but like often much, much earlier in fights, I would say a couple things, right? I would say, number one, just the game itself is moving into boxing range. And if you just stand in that range, there's just so much, you're playing Frogger, right?
Starting point is 00:04:48 There's just so much oncoming traffic. There's just going to be more, you know, collision, right? That's part of it. But also, because the game is moving in that direction, guys are getting better about sniping mistakes, right? They're getting better about like open side counters, guy pulls in, they get out, and then they crack them. Like, they're just kind of better about that.
Starting point is 00:05:08 But, like, is there something to be said on the, betting side. Like, for example, only one upset, as Chuck indicated, which was the Atiba Gotea loss to Roman copy law. What have you seen on the odd side? Are they just putting a bunch of squash matches more than they used to? Yeah, like Chuck pointed out. I mean, dude, the whole prelims, I'm thinking of a few matches. The Anthony Wint fight, the Jacoby Smith fight, the Marcus McGee fight. These are all fights against, you know, like you said, name opponent against no name opponent. And you're like, okay, these are squash matches, whatever. It just felt like a lot of these were whatever that's supposed to happen. Some of the brighter spots were like Johnny Walker, that fight was a pick.
Starting point is 00:05:45 Yes. Johnny Walker looked damn good in that fight. You know, main event was close on paper, was close in execution. You could argue, I guess. I don't know. It's more so I just feel like it was both like lightning striking. Like we actually got some sick finishes on this card and that's surprising. But at the same time, half of these you saw coming a mile away, you know. Yeah. Interesting. Well, fair enough. A lot to get to on the card. I will say this, Chuck. Yeah. I didn't think the main event was amazing, but I didn't hate it. I didn't think it was some disaster. And the rest of that card, the pacing on it, you know, even if you thought the fights, oh, I didn't get to see much. Peyton Talbot just got bigerato out of there quickly. I don't know. You still got to see eventful MMA in a sense, right?
Starting point is 00:06:30 Yeah. I mean, I felt like, I thought the main event was fine, you know, ultimately because I was like, I think people's problems. someone with us, I felt like we were masquerading a little bit without Valentina there. Okay, whatever it is. But if you didn't really pay attention in Talia Silva, didn't you feel like you got a pretty fair representation of what she's been doing this whole way? We're going to get to that just a minute. Okay. That was cool.
Starting point is 00:06:50 I thought that part was cool. Yeah, that part was cool. And, you know, we've already went through. Plenty of action. I thought the pacing was fine. And again, I was in a weird circumstance where I'm not watching it on a normal TV or I'm not watching it on my computer, which I normally do. But it felt like everything was moving along pretty crisply there.
Starting point is 00:07:06 I would certainly agree with that as well. All right. So thumbs up on the video if you haven't. Hit subscribe if you haven't. We have an email, Morningcombat at gmail.com, fan subs, dead wrongs, and just to reach out to the show if, in fact, you need to do that. We have memberships to get badges and emojis, and I'm sure we'll think of some other stuff along the way. And then certainly morningcombat.
Starting point is 00:07:25 Dot shop. I realize that we're in the month of October. We'll have an announcement about what the new merch for this month will be shortly. Okay. All right. With that out of the way, Chuck, let's kind of start. start the show here, just kind of recapping overall the full event, starting with this main event. Natalia Silva defeats Wang Tong, I should say, excuse me, being a unanimous decision,
Starting point is 00:07:47 24847s, which is how I had it, 14946, right there in the middle, Derek clearly. The only round he gave to Wong would be round five. Interestingly, round three went to Wong on Sal Diomato's card, but not round four, which I find very surprising i would have thought round four would have gone to her but i guess not chuck first all how did you score this fight and based on that scoring what's your biggest takeaway from what we saw i thought i thought early on natalia sylva was controlling the fight like the first two rounds i think are just they they were definitely hers the third round started getting a little closer but i still thought it was three nothing i would probably i think it was mike bell who was on the right hand side there
Starting point is 00:08:33 I'd probably score it like that. I thought like the second half of the fight started to swing a little bit for Wang Tong. And at that point, I was like, the third round became a little bit of a concern. You're like, well, I don't know if Natalia did enough. It was a closer round. But I thought ultimately in the end, I didn't feel that dramatic. I felt like they showed like, and again, I'm watching this on a mute screen. And I saw like there were some people like the Chinese with the flag and they were celebrating.
Starting point is 00:09:02 and I was like, okay, did I just not see what I think I saw? Because they looked like they thought they won. I don't know if you saw that. Like they cut to a shot. So that was a little bit weird. But ultimately, I thought the fight, I thought the scoring was right. I could, you could say four rounds to one or three rounds to two. And I thought that Natalia Silva, if you haven't paid attention to her,
Starting point is 00:09:22 and this was part of the problem with this is I don't know how many people were paying attention in Natalia. So even though she had some pretty marquee matchups against former champions, I don't know how many people were paying attention to Juan. Tong like she was fighting on the prelims at UFC 329. I thought if you hadn't seen that, you got a very fair representation to both fighters. I didn't feel like either one of them shrunk in that moment. You could see how strong that Wang Tong was too and some of the, you know, having not
Starting point is 00:09:47 fought five rounds before, it kind of come on strong toward the end there. I thought that that was very good for her. Ultimately, she needed to come on sooner in that fight. But Natalia Silva, just the quickness of her hands in those exchanges, the countering, and some of that stuff I thought was really you know very very like it was very indicative of what she's been able to do like she's kind of unassuming but her hands are
Starting point is 00:10:09 super quick those the counters on the shot she always had an answer in those first couple rounds for whatever you know wangtong time was bringing in there and I thought that she gave a very good accounting of herself I thought that she showed that she belongs here if nothing else even in
Starting point is 00:10:25 Valentina's stead like she showed that she belonged on this stage yeah I think one of my first conclusions and you can see here this is the point where she gets the belt wrapped around her obviously in elation you know i got to be honest like i'm not trying to police what women wear but i do have a feeling about rash guards for women in modern m m ms yeah separate conversation it didn't play a huge role this one but another discussion for another time yeah nevertheless chuck for me it's like there's just no way to look at this and someone's going to be like oh wow that's the best flyweight
Starting point is 00:10:59 in the world you know especially with valentine and shipchenko not losing it and administratively essentially having to hand that back. But it did feel to me kind of like, I'm going to echo what you said here a little bit, which was like once this was over and it's a five-round fight and she looked as good as she did early, she did fade down the stretch. I had her losing the fourth and the fifth personally, Silva.
Starting point is 00:11:20 But as you indicated, it's a good comprehensive look at the kind of threat she poses. And then more to the point, once it was over, I was like, you know what? Like, yes, the only next fight for this division. that makes sense is Silva versus Shepchenko. And I realize that was inevitable anyway, but let's imagine this was just a number one contender fight. I would still look at this and be like, that's the one.
Starting point is 00:11:40 And I would also say, Silva's a tough fight stylistically for anybody in this division, at least right now. Chuck, she's got a very labor-intensive style. And as you saw, there's limits to that because she comes out strong and she's very difficult to solve early. But as the movement slows down, as the footwork itself slows down, it becomes a more solvable problem.
Starting point is 00:12:02 Still very difficult, but certainly a more solvable problem. And it's just hard to maintain the kinds of things you're doing in rounds one and two and rounds four and five. And so you got to see the limits of that, even with some of the pluses that go along with it. But those are going to be difficult for her, for Shevchenko to deal with. You might say, oh, well, Shevchenko's been wrestling her way to a lot of victories recently. And that's true, but Silva has dynamite, take down defense. And you might say, well, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:31 Shevchenko likes to counter and that might be a thing. But it's like that, that lead leg kick she's got, Chuck, she just flips it up real quick. Like there's no tell to it, as you indicated. Show some of these, if you have any more, even if it's the end of the fight. Just like kind of, this is the end of the fight, right? Look at this check hook getting out of the way.
Starting point is 00:12:49 So she's still moving Chuck, keep into the third, a side kick to get her off here, quick right hand, gets back to center. Like this kind of, again, another check hook. this kind of, even though it's more labored than it was, relatively speaking, I'm not outright predicting, oh, Silva beats Shevchenko. I think, you know, you really have to consider the merits of what Shevchenko can do. I'm just pointing out, if I had a takeaway from all of this,
Starting point is 00:13:12 yeah, Silva's the person to fight her. And honestly, that's a competitive, very difficult fight for Shevchenko to face. I don't see how you can say otherwise. 100%. And I think that you have to almost, you know, Silver just fought five rounds. Like some of what you're mentioning may be, you know, somebody trying to figure out how to go five rounds. rounds conserve enough energy to have it in the end because she did kind of fade down the stretch
Starting point is 00:13:32 but i do think that like having that under her belt and uh you know going in there and i guess in her first big spotlight because if you look at her other fights i mean they were kind of buried on uh you know they were buried on cards where the attention was elsewhere i think she really shined in that sense like she was able to go in there but i think that the five rounds like so if she gets booked next against valentina which is the only way that they should go here um that's going to factor in just having that experience of having done that. And I would expect her to probably be even more sharp because you got to be hungry. I think that there was a lot of people placing asteris on this saying like,
Starting point is 00:14:08 you know, is this really like a title fight? And it feels almost like an interim, even though they called it, you know, for the vacant title and all this stuff. I just feel like all of that had to weigh on her on some level. But to get through it,
Starting point is 00:14:20 I think that you're right. If I'm handicapping right now, given Valentina's age and now kind of how long she's been out, even though I still think she'll show up, She always shows up in good form. I'd probably lean Silva. That's crazy to say if they had fought right here, I probably said, Shevchenko, but just given that Silva was able to get that experience and, you know,
Starting point is 00:14:38 kind of figure it out, I think I would lean that way right now. I mean, here's the thing that you can kind of worry about in situations like this, right? Chuck, you can hear someone be like, okay, yeah, you know, Silva won, but this is like a fraudulent championship. And certainly people have their issues. Again, the fact that the title was administratively given. Right. There's really no way around that.
Starting point is 00:14:58 You kind of have to solve that problem organically. But I didn't hear a bunch of people being like, oh, this is one of the most fraudulent champions. People are saying, yeah, you know, the real champion is Chivchenko. Fine. People are saying that. But I guess the point I'm trying to make is like, when this was over, you can't look at that and be like, oh, Silva sucks. Like she just got gifted, you know, the most legendary, lucky opportunity. Yes, in certain ways things went her way.
Starting point is 00:15:24 but she's so comprehensively good that you're like, you know, this is not Nico Montaño or who was the cookie monster, Carla Asparza. Right. Where she gets the title from Nama Yunus and you're like, dude,
Starting point is 00:15:37 what the fuck was that, you know? Yeah. This has the issue of constantly having the Schochenko asterisk. That is, as you and I have indicated, no way around it. But if this was a proving ground for Silva as a legitimate number one contender, as, you know, number one contender,
Starting point is 00:15:54 as a legitimate, you know, good fighter, as a legitimate, you know, like respectable adversary. Home run, I don't know. But definitely got the job done in terms of meeting some of those expectations. I think that's my biggest one. Yeah, I'm with you. But how would you like, say like McKinsey Dern, who was obviously there, I'm very happy as well, Cage side for this, but like McKinsey Dern, right?
Starting point is 00:16:17 Like she beats Jean Derobe, right, like in her fight. like there was a little bit of a masquerade feeling to that too would you compare this one at all to that because in my mind Silva left no doubt that way whereas McKinsey was a little bit like well I don't know if she ever touches a title if Zhang Wei Lee is still around at that point right that felt a little different that way the other issue too for me here is Silva's record has losses on it but none in UFC right since she went to the UFC in the UFC in the UTC UFC itself, she's been undefeated, right? Nine wins in a row, as you can see here.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Let me go through them quickly. Jasmine Jazz DeVisius. Teresa Bleda. I don't know who that is. But then Victoria Leonardo, Andrea Lee, Vivian Arouso, Jessica Andrage, Alexa Grasso, Rosnam and Mugn Tumann, Wang Tom. Dude, that's crazy, dude. Nice win streak.
Starting point is 00:17:12 The thing about Dern was, Dern was like, we had high expectations of Dern, and it was like falling upon. Silva came in relatively unharalded, and it has just kind of, have shown herself to be consistently quality. Again, is she blowing your brains out with it? That's a matter of perspective, I suppose. But like, I thought she, I thought given the circumstances, what is achievable here beyond capturing the title? What kind of moral victories can you get? Did she get all of them? Did people go out being like, oh my God, Shevchenko's done for. This is the next. I didn't see that either. So maybe not best case scenario, but pretty fucking good, all things being.
Starting point is 00:17:52 what they are now it takes us to the wang tong side of things here i'm not sure what to say chuck i i i like her style um you know she tries to promote fights whatever that is worth she i think showed better get up a bit she heard get-ups off the bottom like there was a was it round two where she gets taken down off the kick and then sylva gets on top and then tries to like do ground and pound and then tong gets right back up up. I thought like, okay, that's actually pretty good. But I don't know. Like, I know that the storyline was for her to fight Shevchenko, oh, because they had all this history from before. But I got to be honest, like, even if she had won this, I didn't, I don't know, I just felt to me walking away, like,
Starting point is 00:18:39 not only did the right person win this one on the judge of scorecards, but like, I'm not sure what's so special about Wong's match up with Shevchenko that actually supersedes the kind of threat Silva poses. no i'm with you and in fact if if if it had worked that way you know if uh if kong had come back and won the fight it would have felt very much like she did it through some stubborn like it would be through like nullification or something like it just didn't the the aggressor at least in the early rounds i felt like was was so and it was like the exchanges she know she's like one two three boom boom boom and we get out of there that's fun to watch i just think that you know wong tong like when she's she was still pressing the action
Starting point is 00:19:20 which I appreciate it. She's very strong. She has great self-healing powers, by the way. It looked like she was more banged up after the first round than she did at the end. Like her left hook. It was so weird. Her whole face was banged up here. Yeah. But like it felt like it looked better at the end. I don't know. Those inswells were really doing their job, dude. But, but yeah, I think they got the best case scenario here. If for some reason, this had just gone to a decision and it had gone to a long time, I just feel like that that fight would not feel as big. It just wouldn't feel as big to me. Like I think that in Tally Silva, if anything, it made you look at something that's been in the works a long time.
Starting point is 00:19:53 Even that Alexa Grasso, if you could go back and watch some of those fights, the Alexa Grasso one is very impressive and it has aged extremely well when you see what Grasso has done since then. You have no doubts that she should be there. You know what I mean? And I think there will be a lot of intrigue when Valentina comes back. If Valentina plays it the right way, we'll see how that works. But just kind of being like, well, you did okay while the landlord was away and now I'm here
Starting point is 00:20:15 to reclaim it. I mean, I think you've got a good fight there. Long Island, what was your biggest takeaway from the main event? you with us that like you know did it blow your brains out? Probably not. But Silva came across to me as a credible threat. Yeah, I gotta say every time you say blow your brains out, I can't. We're talking about Natalia.
Starting point is 00:20:33 But I will just say, I thought it was weird. They didn't mention Chevchenko at all. Is that right? Yeah, they weren't like Natalia. You just won the interim belt. You know, how do you think you do against the champion? Like nothing. That's weird.
Starting point is 00:20:47 They didn't mention Shevchenko at all. Maybe in the post fight. You know, maybe the media is. Not the broadcast. I get a chance to hear that. That is wild. That is interesting. That was my biggest takeaway.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Otherwise, this fight went exactly how we all thought it. We thought it was going to go the distance and Natalia was the favorite. Yeah. The other part too for me, Chuck, on the Wong side of things, it's like, did the fight get better for her as it went on past the second, right? Like even if you want to say that Silva won the third and I think she did, certainly that was a closer round than the previous two. And then four and five I gave to Wong.
Starting point is 00:21:20 outright but it's like did you solve the problem or did the problem itself make it easier for you to deal with just because it's hard to maintain what the problem itself is right in other words like as sylvan naturally kind of slowed down yeah Wong was able to find a little bit more but that to me is not the same as like you're using the bomb yeah right no she just did the same stuff it just was she was going against a diminished version fifth round I thought her pressure was better Fifth round. Fifth round, she was on top of her, but. I don't know what the tweaks would be, but Natalia knew what she was doing.
Starting point is 00:21:57 Even in those, like, you just, we were looking at those clips. Like, Natalia kind of understood the arsenal that was, she was facing. She understood the attacks. And she had something for her, usually on those parting. Like, every time they were in a little bit of an exchange, it felt like she had something on the parting. Like she would always hit her with something. She did a very good job of kind of knowing what to expect.
Starting point is 00:22:16 And I don't think that it really changed through that fight. You know, I think that when, It would have been just that Natalia slowed down like you mentioned 100%. I will say this too. Like we got to stop with the Joker thing. You know what I mean? You can't take this or what you thought about that. Like how does that work?
Starting point is 00:22:34 You know, I saw Jack Slack was commenting because you see the weigh-ins on Friday where Wong was like, you know, imitating her footwork, you know, as they faced off. And Jack's lack, he goes, Are you really trying to say her footwork is cringe while wearing Joker makeup in the middle of the way in? Like, you got to read the room here, pal.
Starting point is 00:22:58 I know, man. I know. So I don't know when that I don't know. I mean, Silva wins. Presumably, Schifchenko is next to Long Island's point, though, based on them not even talking about her in the broadcast. I'm not sure when the hell of that is. Yeah. But not a disaster.
Starting point is 00:23:14 That makes you wonder if there's some acrimony behind the scenes. I hadn't really contemplated. but I heard people mention it though a little bit that there might be some things going on. The thing was it was like there was a question and it's speculative. I haven't seen any reporting to this effect, Chuck, but it's speculative that, you know, maybe Schifchenko was injured. Did she really need to full on relinquish the title? And like to what extent did they make her do that so they could take a full on weight class
Starting point is 00:23:42 championship to Utah based on whatever, you know, demands there might be in that regard? I'm not sure. I mean, again, it is speculative. I want to be super clear about that. We're just, we're just guessing. But now that Long Island is saying things like, oh, yeah, they didn't even bring her up on the broadcast. I'm like, yeah, that's super weird. Because you have a built-in fight, right? Like, this is, this channelized right into a basically a unification title fight in the end. So that makes me feel like something's going on. We'll see. That's an interesting one. We'll have to see how that goes. All right. But congratulations to the new UFC Flyway champion. Talia Silva, she gets the job done.
Starting point is 00:24:19 Let's talk about the rest of that main card. We talked about it to open the show, Chuck. Put the records up one more time, if you can. Let's see here. If you got that, the records of the card. Yeah, yeah, yeah. First modern UFC was six consecutive first round KOs. Most first round KOs in a single of UFC event.
Starting point is 00:24:37 Most total KOs in a single event. And again, it was also, oh, no, no, sorry. Never mind. You got that one up there. But there was, I think, even, oh, this one had the most knockdowns. Did you know that one? Long Island. Wow.
Starting point is 00:24:48 That's crazy. 16 knockdown. Now, granted, I think like 15 of those were Bobby Green or King Green. Three, but yeah. You know what I'm saying? But in general, there was quite a bit of this. So we talked about that at the top of the show. Again, I think boxing range is becoming just where fights take place.
Starting point is 00:25:06 And you're going to get hit more there, especially as guys get better. They're booking some squash matches. I think all of it's kind of working to do this. I will say one thing I want to point out about this. I am not, I got to be honest, I want to clarify something. Chuck, where are you on promoters booking squash matches? And I will tell you, me personally, me personally, I don't really hate it. Now, I got to say, the problem with it is when they go to the well too often.
Starting point is 00:25:32 Right. Like, for example, that MVP card where you had a bunch of first round finishes, but you were like, yeah, but dog, let me, what way was Francis Nganoe versus Felipe Lin's gonna go? You know what I mean? Right. So you just kind of, or even Rhonda and Gina, for that matter, you know, like, what are, what is this all going to look like? On the other hand, dude, Strike Force did this. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:54 Strike Force used to do you should do like this. So I feel like it's always a balancing act, but I don't dislike squash matches. The great thing is, like, you mentioned strike force. You mentioned like even Belator did this. I got a lot of regional type things. They bring in the local flavor, you know, like, um, they would end the way they were supposed to. The good thing about there is a wild card enough in the UFC. Like they, they still hold a line where it's.
Starting point is 00:26:16 They just don't have standard tomato cans. It's like they just don't find these woodwork figures to throw in there. Like you could just, Gable Stevenson and Sean Sheriff, right? Like this is the type of thing where it looks like a squash man, but then you get the opposite, right? Like Bella, Bel-A-Mir getting in there.
Starting point is 00:26:31 It looks like it should be an easy role and she ends up losing. I think that that element is why it feels okay. Because it feels like, you know, sometimes you get this very lopsided line, but it's because we're paying all the attention on one side of it. you don't really know enough about the other guy, you know, or the other girl. And they go in there and perform. And that can be fun, too.
Starting point is 00:26:52 You know, all of a sudden you have figures showing up who upset these people. And that's cool. You know, like, so I think that we're in that, in the A side, B side thing. I really think that the UFC is kind of tapping into this more in our world of how everything is set up. And you're getting just enough of the B side, like showing up and doing it, like even on this particular card with Coppilov. And I know he's been around a minute, but I don't know how many people were paying attention. a lot of people like, dude, Coppulov, you know, talking about him. And I'm like, he's been around a while, guys.
Starting point is 00:27:21 It's not like he's brand new to the sport. But you get him over because he beat a guy now who has that spotlight. So when it works, it's great. And we saw most of that work because they're going right through the people they should. But when that person, like the shows up who upset him, it also works. So in that way, I'm like, hey, this is kind of fun for the UFC. Let's talk about the co-main event. Peyton Talbot defeats Devis and Figurato.
Starting point is 00:27:43 He just beats the brakes off of him. Look at this job. you know, I mean, he dropped, I think he got credited with knocking him down twice in this one. Maybe it's just once I have to double check the stats here. I'll look in a minute. But Chuck, I mean, most bansomweight wins from 2023 to present, Peyton Talbis at six, mind you, that's what's some pretty significant time off in the past year could be, he could be, you know, well past seven or even eight at this point.
Starting point is 00:28:08 What did you make of not really getting the finish in the first round, but just kind of the ease of it all? I thought he stole the show, Luke. Like that was one of the things. Like, you know, I felt like they could have done a better job spotlighting these kind of guys. But Peyton's Talbot was certainly a guy that everybody was watching. I think the Barone Barcellos fight slowed everybody's role. But the kind of thing he's been doing since then, I mean, he really has gotten better. I think he understood he needed some outside looks from his local area there in Reno.
Starting point is 00:28:37 I know he's trained with some different guys. But I think his mindset was just like, I got to get better. And he went and did that. Like the Henry Sohudo fight and this one, I feel like he's, yes, these dudes are long in the tooth. Yes, they're past their glory. But he's making it look easier than it should be. Isn't he? I mean, like, I thought that Davidson figured out of just given a situation.
Starting point is 00:28:57 I know he's lost four out of five, all that stuff. But like, you thought like if we've talked about these old guys sometimes digging their heels in, I thought we'd see that a little bit with Davidson. But he was never given that chance. I think he landed five significant strikes in this. And it didn't even feel like that much. I just felt like Talbot I know you're mentioning this before we start
Starting point is 00:29:14 Quint as far as wirey as he is a springy like his power translates very well in this division and I think that that's why he's getting through it like both both these last fights I think he's demonstrated that I mean everyone's going to say not without merit not without merit well he just beat up two old guys you know and it's like
Starting point is 00:29:30 okay I cannot get around that that is absolutely true there's just no way to suggest otherwise but dude like he he out wrestled Henry and we saw Henry recently wrestled Marab. Granted in pure wrestling, but, you know, although he lost once, was able to fully completely redeem himself. So we saw it like, he can still wrestle, I guess, at the point I'm trying to make. Peyton out wrestled him. And in this fight against
Starting point is 00:29:52 Figuero, knocked him down twice. Stuff two takedowns, by the way, people forget that. And had 25 significant strikes to difference in Figueroidos, five. I mean, he had five X, everything, essentially that Figuero, I was able to throw at him. This was ridiculous. Dude, I think his power is underrated. I don't think that, I'm not trying to make power. out to be like the dominant thing about his game. I don't know that it necessarily is, but like, dude, when he touches these guys, it makes them panic. It causes them issues. It makes it hard for them to move or scramble. He doesn't have that, at least he hasn't shown, I should say, clear evidence of one punch stopping power. That's a little different. But in terms of like
Starting point is 00:30:32 scrambling their brains a little bit, Chuck, I think we should put a little respect on Peyton Talbot's name in terms of what he's able to do. He is Yeah. Again, he hasn't faced enough of the very best guys for me to say, oh, he's one of the better punchers in this division. But what he's showing me is there's reason to believe he could be. And I think it's highly important now. We stop giving him these old geezers. And let's give him somebody a little closer to his age to really start testing. Well, he's ready for escalation. He is absolutely ready for escalation. Yeah, man. And I went and talked to him before the Barcellus swipe. I visited him out in Reno. I did this piece on him.
Starting point is 00:31:11 Very unique guy. I think I've talked to you about this before. Just a very different type of dude. I think if he's not fighting, he's in the arts. You know, he's creating like artwork or something. But he, he's wanted to fight. Like Sean O'Malley makes that call out in this one. He's wanted that fight since then.
Starting point is 00:31:27 And I think that he believed he was going to get through Barcellus, and this would be like something that would happen by now. It hasn't. They've given him a different course. And sometimes, like, you fight these older guys. And I think to an extent that is work. He got well off of these guys. he turned things around and he kind of took the juice i guess because you could say that essentially
Starting point is 00:31:44 like you know two former champions which i know he's using you can say like i beat these guys and i beat them in ways that other people didn't right like this is the math you can put together he's calling out sean o'mally i'm like this is exactly what he's got to do at this point right if he's going to make that that jump and we're going to really see how he stacks up in that sense it's got to be a guy like shon o'm i know like there's there are other guys he could face their younger um challenges in that top five space, but that's where he's got to go. And I think he's ready for it. I don't think he was ready back when I did that interview in early 2020, uh, 25. Obviously like he loses the Barcells. I think now he is ready for that though. One of those kinds of things where it's like,
Starting point is 00:32:23 oh, you learn more from your losses from your wins. And a lot of time that's not really true. Yeah, it's definitely true in this case. How about figurato though, dude? 38 years of age will be 39 in December. So before the year ends. And this is the run he's been on. He had the one win against Montel Jackson a split decision back in 2025 okay fair enough and then one before that was he beat in chito vera in 24 but dude since then lost to yon lost to san hagen badly injured during that fight lost to umar finished by song and now he gets finished in back to back fights this time via punches tough schedule though i will give him that like that's a tough slate yeah fair enough but like this is one of the things people often ask like how do you know when a fighter's done and so obviously in some
Starting point is 00:33:03 cases it can be so obvious that it's like well okay well you just look or something right sure like Chuck Liddell at the end or something. Yeah, of course. But the other thing you want to look for is look at how they've won and lost before. And again, this is going to be, this is not a hard and fast rule in every case. But one interesting way to look at it is especially for elite guys, Chuck, who are at the end of their run. A lot of these guys don't ever have back-to-back losses. And even if they do, it might be like decision decision.
Starting point is 00:33:31 It very rarely is a case where like they've been stopped multiple time. I mean, it happens, but like, you know, it's very rarely. So here's the case where he's never lost back to back. It's never happened. He's had a draw and a loss, but he's never lost back to back. And here he has not only back to back losses for the first time, he got finished in both of them once via submission, once via strikes. That is one of those signs that the end is just about here.
Starting point is 00:33:55 That's my view. No, I'm with you. This would have been the fight. Like we've talked about these old guys over the last year who dug their heels in. They're like, no, no, no, not today. I'm going to beat back the guy who the prospect is supposed to. to take my spot. We've seen this happen. It was a little part of me. I don't know how you felt Long Island, Luke, but there was a little
Starting point is 00:34:12 part of me that, like, what was the odd? It was something like he was my, uh, Peyton Talb was minus 700. It was a lot, right? And I was like, I felt like that was a little disrespectful to figure out because I'm like, dude, if anybody's going to do it, it'd be him right now. And when you saw the, like, you saw that he couldn't and he was getting just clobbered time and again. And you, you know, and Peyton's just kind of walking down. Like, he's not even worried about it, just completely poised or every onslaught. When I saw that, I was like, I just felt like we were looking at a completely different figurado. That dude used to be, you know, relentless and feisty and just kind of like explosive,
Starting point is 00:34:45 all those things. And I just, I didn't see that anymore. Did you? I mean, I just felt like this was the diminished form for me. Yeah. I mean, he doesn't have big power at 35. He had big power at 25. But, you know, like, you go to that Cheeto fight.
Starting point is 00:34:58 And you're like, okay, you can swim in these waters, you know. Yeah. And then last night, I felt like, you know, no. it's like it's like bro like well you get old man I don't know how to say it like yeah they're not as responsive they don't take punches as well it's all those things
Starting point is 00:35:17 there's like a certain kind of like you know fragility to old age he just looked like he was approximating there's the fragility of that and there's also just like you've already kind of summited you know like you've already hit the summit of what you're going to do and so I don't know how you motivate yourself through training and all that because where are you trying to get back to? And I just don't think that you have the same focus
Starting point is 00:35:37 or hunger once you've already been to the top. You know what I mean? That's what it looks like to me too. It's like I don't know if he can actually mentally prepare himself to like I have to win this or I'll die type thing. I don't think he's going to get in that mentality anymore. Yeah. Meanwhile, Peyton Talbot's biggest life ambitions are still in front of him. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. Just a different level of that. That is the of all of this card. I felt like he translated in some big way like we're like, okay, this dude like I know some he's very polarizing some people really don't like the guy they don't like his attitude whatever. Payton Talbot? A lot of people love I love him I think
Starting point is 00:36:11 he's fresh. People don't like him because they in MMA because they think he's gay. Can we just say that out of loud? We talked about this all that when I was out there and he would he the greatest thing about it is he would just keep talking like yeah it might be gay I might be gay he would just do that because he knew he knew that he was like I don't care let them think what they like he loved that he loves that aspect of it but dude that's he's playing the game he's playing the game on a level that I'm like, I love it, you know.
Starting point is 00:36:34 He seems to sort of understand like who the audience, not the entire audience, but at least what a portion of the audience is. He talks about the fan base, like you talk about the fan base. Like, you guys would have a very fun time talking to each other. There's pockets of humanity, but you don't know what I mean? There's a lot of like pockets
Starting point is 00:36:50 of inhumanity. Right. And he doesn't seem super phased by it. I mean, maybe that's a cope, I don't know, but it looks pretty, basically it's just a bunch of donks who think he's gay and blowing Frank Ocean and they're bitter about it. And I'm like, who could possibly give a fuck? Who cares, who cares, who cares, who cares? Let me hear that one more time. Who cares, brother? Who cares? All right. Go blow guys.
Starting point is 00:37:15 All right. Go blow guys. Say it with that again? I said blow guys. That's all I just say. Just go blow guys. That's the name of the show. Go blow guys. Yeah. All right. Estabon Rebovix defeats King Green. Now, this one I got wrong, because I'm just not a believer in Rebovix. But I mean, he would just this was not that complicated in the end like this is one like sometimes i get picks wrong and i'm like all right and this one i got wrong and i'm like yeah i should have seen this one a little better the thing is i just don't believe in i think it's chuck i don't believe in riba vicks that much i'm not super high on him but he kind of stayed in the face of bobby green we'll talk about the stoppage in a minute he stayed in the face of bobby green he kind of kept punching through
Starting point is 00:37:58 combination. And so Bobby's, I'm just going to pull my head and pivot out of the way. You know, if you throw a one, two, yeah, but if you throw a three, four, five, it doesn't go as great. What did you make of this one? I mean, I was, I was one of the few people, like, I know that like everybody, the popular thing was to say King Green. And but if you watch that fight, I was at 329, you watched that fight with Terrence McKinney. He was getting beat up the whole first round before he turns it around and he wins. I was sort of a thing like, he can't do that again. I'm not against a guy like this who's going to come in like a buzz saw trying to like incautiously swing with him and all that stuff if he gets getting clipped i knew it could go like this and that's what happened i mean how
Starting point is 00:38:37 many times we dropped in that in that uh in that footage right there is like three times four times it's like um you know that's a bobby green experience at this point i wouldn't have been surprised and that you can never tell from the sliding door standpoint like but if if he had survived that because obviously he's still talking to herb dine he jumps up he's like i'm coherent blah blah that that he might have won that fight because that's Bobby Green. Like you can understand like a certain protest because this is a guy who sometimes gets clobbered like that and comes back and wins. But in the end, I was like, I think it was pretty much the fight I expected. You know, that's that was kind of what I expected.
Starting point is 00:39:11 I'm not, you know, Rebovich to me, like this is, we talk about these type of swing bouts, these value bouts that they throw on cards. This was what that was. You get an old veteran who's going to go out there and do what Bobby Green does or King Green. And you're going to have Riebevich who accommodate him. And this is kind of what you get. right so it delivered on like it was supposed to i guess um yeah i think that's probably about right for me it's like greens at 40 um he's got a style that is naturally going to be difficult to maintain at any age or weight in mMA and you know trying to do it against aggressive
Starting point is 00:39:50 forward moving punchers you know that's i should have seen that coming i I really should. But dude, I'm just not that high on Reba Vix, man. I don't know. He's, he's fine. I guess is what I would say. He's fine. He's, if you're not up to par, he can blitz you.
Starting point is 00:40:06 He's down. He's certainly much more durable than green. You know what I mean? He's a threat. But I don't, everyone was like, oh, my God. He's like, I don't, I still don't see that, to be honest with you. Zulhooper, that was the one. I was trying to remember the fight of the, like, remember that fight.
Starting point is 00:40:20 Yeah, yeah. That fight at the fight at the sphere that he had. I mean, but the bottom line is the dude is just willing to put himself. into any situation. He'll go in there and just trade. He'll take three to land the one he wants to land. And I'm like, those kind of guys, it's hard to have faith that they're going to do much, but he may end up in this kind of
Starting point is 00:40:36 fight pretty often, you know, because he'll accommodate a, like, kind of a brawl mentality. Now, there's this question about the stoppage, which I find really funny. Okay, so first of all, let's play a couple of clips here. Here's Bobby Green after the fact on social media saying, you know,
Starting point is 00:40:51 he's not going crazy, but he didn't love the stoppage in this fight. Let's see it. And great fight. Shit happens. I told myself, regardless or not, I'm not going to be mad at myself, but I'm a little mad. I told Herb, this is going to get sticky.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Let me go on my shield. I was still fine. I want it still to keep fighting. I felt like we're getting somewhere. Chuck. There is no such thing as being a fighter and going to a referee and being like,
Starting point is 00:41:28 hey, here's how stopping fights is going to work tonight. It's like going up to a cop and be like, I'm going to speed here and you're going to let this go 20 miles past the, 20 miles an hour past the limit. Like, they'll look at you like,
Starting point is 00:41:42 are you out of your fucking mind? No, I'm going to enforce the law as the law stands. That isn't me saying, oh, you could say the stoppage is good or bad for that reason. The stoppage can be contested or whatever on its own terms. But there is absolutely no such thing as a fighter just telling a referee, not you're going to let it go longer.
Starting point is 00:41:58 That doesn't work. What did you make of the stoppage itself? Herb let him down, man. This is a man who wanted to go out on the shield. Yeah. You could see, though, like as soon as they were saying, he's like, dude, what did we talk about? That's exactly the look he gave him. He was like, what?
Starting point is 00:42:14 Herb, you know, I'm with you, but it's, it is funny. Like, I was backstage. I did a piece with Matt Mitreone back of the day where I went through the motions with them backstage, like to hear, you know, all the referees. instruction, all that stuff. And he said something similar. I think it was John McCarthy, but he said something along the lines of, hey, if I get in trouble, give me an extra, you've got to give me some extra time here
Starting point is 00:42:36 because I, this may happen. I'm going to go out and fight a certain style. And I may get clip, but I'm going to be, you know, he was basically laying down that thing. And I felt like John McCarty was like, I'll do the best I can, but I got to uphold the law here. You know what I mean, that type of thing. So that's what this reminded me of.
Starting point is 00:42:50 And how can you, Long Island was saying this right before we start to him, how can you, it's it's tough to let a guy get dropped that many times like it probably should have been stopped 30 seconds prior to that you know what I mean like it probably shouldn't even gotten that far so it's hard to it's hard to decide with Bobby too much on this the second time he gets dropped which is about to happen yeah I thought it was over here like and and herb goes to jump in too at this moment right he gets up her comes in and then he's like oh never mind I'll let you get your ass talking that's why I think if you wanted to say Herbs like almost jumping in two times, but then not jumping in, right? Okay, you can say something about that, about whether or not you thought that that was giving mixed signals or it was, it just makes the bout stoppage feel kind of funky when they almost, when they, when they, when they,
Starting point is 00:43:41 intimate that they're going to stop it. And then at the last millisecond they stopped, Dana White was asked about this stoppage. Let's hear what he had to say. Bobby's already, went live, very mad at Herb Dean for the stoppage. Herb's having a rough fucking year Yeah I listen You know
Starting point is 00:44:01 Bobby was laying there going You know but he got dropped like three times in a row So I've seen worse stoppages Yeah I don't I don't fucking get it What is everyone so bitter about
Starting point is 00:44:15 Again if you want to say the mechanics Is it just because he was coherent He was still like I'm okay I've got my wits still It's but when you're dropped three times dude those optics like why are you going to let a guy get mauled like that yeah dude like if you want to the fight to continue stop getting dropped you know what i mean yeah yeah yeah you know i don't i don't but it's i think the question has to be asked is dana talking about bobby's complaint
Starting point is 00:44:38 herbs having a rough like he's like oh bobby's still there or is he saying it was a late fucking stoppage it was a bet he because he's like i've seen worse stoppages is it worse because it's too early in bobby's eyes or is it worse because it was too fucking late and all right you know like so my read on that is he didn't like the stoppage either. And I think he's trying to intimate it's fitting a larger pattern this year of the kind of misfortune or bad decision making that Herb has had, but not that he was necessarily saying, this is the most, like, this is a horrible stoppage, you know, that kind of a thing. It's like, it's like, it's like Herb just almost like, oh, Herb just can't get it, can't get
Starting point is 00:45:13 right, you know, kind of thing. In any event, I, I, you know, the right guy won. It's hard for me to like be too super upset about it. Yeah. On the rest of that, think hard here. We've got Roberto Soldich defeating Chaos Williams. Now this one went exactly as I thought it might. Yeah. Which is that on Friday show, Chuck, we were
Starting point is 00:45:35 talking about this fight. And it's like, listen, Solich has better experience and has beaten better guys and his overall better. But he can be hit, especially from open stands, and sometimes he charges. Now, he didn't charge that much in this fight. That's true, especially in the first round. But Buddy, he was
Starting point is 00:45:51 getting clipped left and right by chaos. It's just that once he was able to settle in and Williams was unable to touch him as much because the setups were better and the execution was better, the fight certainly showed that Soldich is just the much better fighter. It was a little hairy at first, Chuck. Yes. Yeah. I wondered if Solich might be a little bit of a slow starter in this. You know, he's kind of coming over. Where is he 31 now?
Starting point is 00:46:17 He's coming over. He's got some expectation. I mean, the people who paid attention to him one in KSW, especially like if you're, if you're, if you're, watched him. You might think, it may take him a minute to get his bearings. It felt like that to me. He was getting hit. It actually seemed fairly ominous. There was one he took that was like a pretty good shot that I was like, okay, if he takes many more of those, he's going to get knocked out. But he kind of just slowly took control of that fight. And he started to show you, you know, it almost felt like by the second round, he could do whatever he wanted. It felt like he could,
Starting point is 00:46:46 if he wanted to take it to the ground, he could do that. But he was kind of like, I feel like I can play fine right on the feet because he started to get rhythm. his timing and all that stuff. And it just felt like it was his fight. I never was in doubt from like the early second round on it. It felt like it was his fight the whole way. Yeah. Once, and then by the way,
Starting point is 00:47:02 like Williams didn't get dropped according to what fight metric considers, but he got his shit rocked several times in rounds two and three. And so once he's got a chin. I want to point out the same thing vice versa. They didn't credit Williams with a knockdown in round one. Which I also found surprising. Soldage after the fight acknowledged. He's like,
Starting point is 00:47:22 I got knocked down in round one. but they didn't credit him with a knockdown. Yeah, I didn't understand that either. I was like for sure they should have caught that. It should have been like 30 knockdowns in this card, all told. Yeah, right. I mean, the thing for me on like Soldich is like, again, like clearly he's good. Clearly the Walterweight division is going to be improved by him being here.
Starting point is 00:47:43 If he can overcome early jitters, he's got the kind of skills to give a lot of people problems in this division. But being sniped by being either overaggressive or in this particular case, just like the one thing that they come to do i don't i don't know what rogan's doing in that booth half the time to be honest with you like he was like oh uh williams is striking is just so unpredictable i'm like dog what soldiers doing their open stance right so one south paul one's orthodox okay so they're facing off like that uh he's moving into range with williams like throwing a combination and then not bringing his hand up or rolling Like if you guys ever see a boxer throw a one and then a two, and it's on this side,
Starting point is 00:48:29 a lot of times the shoulder will be up, Chuck, but they'll roll underneath on this side because, of course, if my arm is here, you're going to punch on this same side to come hit me here, right? You've seen every boxer do it, bump, bump, and then they roll every single time. Or they might bring the hand back up or something, you know, or they might smother. I mean, there's other ways, but you've commonly seen and then they roll. You have to roll or block at the end of that punch because you have to, anticipate something is coming back. Dog, Solditch was just standing there.
Starting point is 00:48:59 I know. So Williams kept throwing on the same side where the last punch was being thrown. Typically it was a left hand and catching him. And they're like, oh, this is unpredictable. I'm like, it's the most predictable. This is the most predictable way to get your shit rocked when you box with somebody. It's just that he couldn't do it as as Soldich got better with his range,
Starting point is 00:49:21 better with pulling out, better with the body kicks, better when he began to really mix it that's when Williams was on the defensive but I was like what are you talking about it's the most predictable fucking thing ever I guess that there's a silver lining for me as I couldn't hear that commentary you know I was in this a cathony like it was like I didn't
Starting point is 00:49:38 so I didn't hear that but don't you sometimes like purposefully not listen to the comment don't you turn it down sometimes I routinely turn it down yeah sometimes that can be beneficial because honestly like that would have that would have frustrated me if I'd heard that too Rogan wasn't as bad this card for me as
Starting point is 00:49:54 DC. We got to talk about DC. I'm not as low on DC as others, but people have a lot of issues. What's your issue? He's fucking commentating Immanuel Rodriguez's his fight. For sure, that should not be happening. The whole embedded episode was how DC made this whole new gym
Starting point is 00:50:09 surrounded around Eminal's camp and all this. Like, dude, what? And then the other thing was the Anthony Wint fight. Anthony Wint, DC just straight up blamed Armin for throwing the fight. He's like, he just jumped to the ground. He threw that fight. None of those shots landed you're just accusing the guy of
Starting point is 00:50:26 fucking throwing the fight I mean what are we doing wow it's bad yeah crazy I'm more like why was this fight made at all this is one of the ones where I was like dude what are we doing like what the fuck is this not 23 seconds yeah but anyway good to see soldier in UFC yeah and I will say this
Starting point is 00:50:43 he was off for like almost not quite but almost two years that's what I wondered to maybe three rounds Chuck not the end of the world it almost felt like he wanted it you know what I mean like it almost felt like he kind of wanted the experience i don't know i have no idea i didn't hear him in the the aftermath of this but all told i'm like you know i know he can look better than that like you're mentioning he can look better than that but i thought he got through with
Starting point is 00:51:06 it you know that was a tough matchup to start so i mean dude you and i have been around long enough to know there have been hotly anticipated ufc debuts that went to fucking shit for guys who even became champions yeah um so this is hardly the worst of them hardly yeah and then this was the one upset on the card. Now, some people were pointing out that Johnny Walker was an upset. No, Walker became a slight favorite by the time the odds closed. You may have gotten him on your betting line as a potential. Did you get him as a dog, Long Island? Johnny Walker? It was the opposite. So he was a favorite all week. And then as the fight got close, it was a pick him. So he might have closed as a dog. I saw him as a slight favorite in a bunch of places. He was a favorite all week. I got him at like minus 140. You know,
Starting point is 00:51:47 like I didn't even get him at a good price. I saw him as low as minus 105, something like that. I see. Okay. In the end. Let's just talk about the fight itself. For Roman Coppulov, he defeats Atteba Gautier at 312. Dude, look at this. I mean, he, look, oh my God, I have so much to say about this fight, but it just driving me nuts. Chuck, what did you think? You know, Gautier, we've seen him 24 years old.
Starting point is 00:52:11 Let's be honest about that. Big power. But maybe we had seen that Pallaya fight, like, there's a lot of just like, how do you problem solve? Let me, let me say something. If you are a fighter out there, you know, particularly a young one, senior fighters, I don't have to say anything to. If you're a younger fighter,
Starting point is 00:52:29 you need to think about what's going to happen when you have an opponent who stays in front. What do you need to do when an opponent moves, and particularly directions, this direction, that direction. What is your plan for when they're the same stance as you? What is your plan for when they're open stance? What is your plan if they're open stance and they're moving? What is your plan if they're open stance and moving into your power
Starting point is 00:52:49 versus out of the power? Like, you have to know what the plan is, depending on all these factors. And dude, Gautier looked lost when it came to that. Yeah, that was, it was tough. And it feels like sometimes there's this mentality. I don't know if he fully buys it. Don't you feel like he kind of buys into his own mystique a little bit?
Starting point is 00:53:08 Like he's got the, he's got this physique. He shows up. I feel like people look at him as like, oh, dude, he's inevitable. And he goes in there and it feels like, it feels like a kind of hunter stalking the prey. And I don't know if this is what sets him up for something like that. But Coppola, like, you could see he was like, he was very cautious, like, you know, kind of getting around. He was very cautious is what he was going to do. But you knew that he's game.
Starting point is 00:53:30 He's not going to be one of those guys who just kind of cowers down to this. And like, you know, once he, once he rolled out, it almost felt, almost felt like I was like, maybe I should have seen this coming a little bit. And I don't know if this is just because maybe there were some writing on the wall with some of the previous opponents. But like, like, with Gautier, but like, yeah, just it didn't, did it feel right to you, the whole. whole way. It felt like he was in danger to me from the, from the, from the jump. It felt like he was like leaving his chin out there. And I don't know. It just felt very he felt vulnerable to me. That whole fight, even though it lasted what, three minutes. It was yeah, I mean, he felt vulnerable. It felt like it's, it felt like something like that was going to happen. Play that one highlight we have here. He's going to
Starting point is 00:54:08 hit him with the left outside foot position. Now watch, he's going to step on his foot here. Watch, copy love is. Yep. See that? It just catches him. Dude, copy love has, I mean, copy Laws got problems, right? Yeah. But the dude, whatever else you want to say about him has been in the trenches. Look at that nose. Tough fights. Yeah, he's had tough fights where he's won, tough fights where he's lost, and he's faced really good fighters. Like he's kind of seen a lot to have understanding of what his assignment is. He understands what he wants to do in an open stance fight. And he just did it to him. He's stepping out in lead foot position and winning that battle every fucking time. And Gautier had no answer for him.
Starting point is 00:54:48 it. I'm like, copy, because here's what I thought, dude, Gotea had that problem with Polayev, but Palaev was just moving on him, moving, moving, moving. And I was thinking to myself, well, Coppilov doesn't really do that. I mean, he was circling here a little bit in that clip, but not really. He doesn't really move a ton. He kind of stands in front. But he knows from open stance, I want to line up the left hand, and I've got to get my foot in position to do it. And Goetia just let him do it. I know. He just let him do it. And I was like, dude, you know, I appreciate that he looks like he is, you know, built like a Greek god. Yeah. He's got tremendous power. And I want to say it one more time, 24 years old,
Starting point is 00:55:25 plenty of time for him to continue to get better. But they need to calibrate the matchmaking with him. Yes. He's not ready. I want you to pay attention, like, how many guys on the UFC roster they've got, where we're like, the matchmaking is not appropriate for them. They're not quite ready for this. Here's another one of them. These guys really need more seasoning. before they get to the UFC. Yeah. What was the line on this one? Like, he was fairly big favorite, right?
Starting point is 00:55:51 Yeah, Coppilov was around like plus 200. Pretty crazy. I mean, I guess I was closer. But to me, that always looked a little bit like a red flag. You wonder, we were talking about Peyton Talbot. Like, the certain times that you take a loss, especially at a young age, you were able to sort of understand your own invincibility.
Starting point is 00:56:08 If that makes sense, like you understand, like, where you're lacking. And I feel like he can take some, stuff from looking at this one to improve his boxing especially, but 24 years old, like you mentioned, I feel like it is a good opportunity for him. I just, if it wasn't
Starting point is 00:56:25 copy love, it was going to be the next guy, right? I feel like he just, he was going to get exposed on this level, and I feel like he's got plenty of time now to work on that stuff. If guys want to just duke it out with him, you know, and they're not super mindful about cage tactics or
Starting point is 00:56:39 you know, uh, dimensions to particular context, like again, here's open stance and you're going up against the Southpaw. You know, yeah, if guys want to just charge into him or, you know, face off with him, he's got big enough power, Chuck, or eventually he'll land and that'll be that. But if people are moving on him, if people are setting things up and changing angles and he can't see that coming, dude, yeah, this is not where he, his matchmaking needs to be slowed.
Starting point is 00:57:09 Like, just Peyton Talbot has earned the right to get his accelerated. Goetia has, I think, earned the opportunity. to have that decelerated in a pretty substantial way. He kind of screwed up the program, didn't he? I mean, like everybody, every other prospect, every other guy that was like, okay, watch this one, watch this one, watch this one. One, like he was the one guy who didn't get through that. How old is Coppulov, by the way?
Starting point is 00:57:28 Coppulov is 35. 35. So, yeah, 11 year difference. Usually you're always like, oh, the 24-year-old's going to blow a dude to throw the Marines. Nope, that didn't happen. But you know what? I will say this.
Starting point is 00:57:41 Like, it's bad to lose, obviously, but he didn't take a beating. This is one of those ones where it's like, dude, you really got to go. Someone needs to teach him like, okay, dude, you have to imagine what context could you be set up with? What is your offensive responsibility in each of these contexts? And he's just not there yet. He's not there yet. Now, Long Island, Luke, how are my Washington commanders doing in London, England as we speak? What's the score?
Starting point is 00:58:10 You know, let's take a look at that. Probably best to keep your eyes centered on me, Luke. Yeah, probably best to not look at that score. No, it's 20 to 13 Colts right now. I think Marietta went out, though, didn't he? Like, he got hurt? Oh, I don't know. I think he did.
Starting point is 00:58:23 Dude, Mario's out of the game? I think he is. They have like those three. I don't even know who the third string quarterback is in there. Like, at least when I saw it, let me see. You're right. Athen-Kala-Kamannis, something like that. Yeah, that dude is in there.
Starting point is 00:58:38 Yeah. Bro, part of just making it in the NFL is not being necessarily. good. It's just not dying. You know what I mean? It is so true. There was a guy I talked to who played in the league for like, I think, two or three years and came out of college, was like, you know, pretty good. You know, got drafted, I think in the sixth or seventh round. And, you know, within two or three years, he got injured so many times that he just couldn't
Starting point is 00:59:05 play. That was it. Just got, just got destroyed through play. It happens, man. They, there was a stat like, I don't remember this for every NFL player of a certain position. But they were like, it was something like two and a half, three years is like the average. You're, you're very good. Three years is the average NFL career. Isn't that nuts? I mean, that's crazy to think about. Well, you know what? At least we now know what we're up against if you're a Washington commanders fan. I'm a believer, Chuck, but I know that I also have to, we have to get some luck because we've had a lot of bad luck. Either way, though, there is a ton of football for you guys who want to watch it today. And of course,
Starting point is 00:59:39 it'll be some as well tomorrow. Football season is officially in full swing. And every week, feels bigger with Draft Kings. Starting point is 01:01:13 of Korea is I mean that's one of the worst front kicks up the gut I think I've ever seen in terms of just damage Chuck he's muted right now Chuck you're muted bud sorry about that guys this particular one
Starting point is 01:01:30 I only caught the tail in I wish I could see what you're talking about with the kick I did see this go down but it happened so like this fight I expected this was one of the ones I thought would go a little bit and it didn't so I was up running around when this one came on. But dude, this is the one that you're talking about with DC, right?
Starting point is 01:01:48 Yes. Yeah. It was, it was annoying because I will say, Iminal looked really fucking good in this fight and I was on Correa, so I got to give him a lot of credit. But from the first fucking strike this guy throws, DC's like, look how quick he is in there. And I'm just like, get the fuck out of here. It's kind of recurring theme here. At least I don't understand him in a suit. You know what I mean? Like he's done in the past. I don't understand like, I guess the UFC can't always figure out a way to make sure that a Cormier linked fighter would never be on a card with him, although I'm sure that they could too if they tried.
Starting point is 01:02:20 You know what's so funny about UFC, dude? This is the thing that's always amazing to me, is like when they want to brag about something, like, for example, like, you know, not merely pulling off the White House card, but like building that engineering apparatus and like nobody can do what we can do. And there's no problem we can't solve and we can't figure it out.
Starting point is 01:02:40 And it's like, okay, can we not have the guy, commentating their teammates guys the schedule we just i mean it just ends up you know we can't be in control that's too much work that and i'm like aren't you guys the people that brag that you're one-sip sort of tesla and and spacex sending people into fucking rockets into the you know on the earth's stratosphere like what are we talking about here like they they they want you to believe that they can do anything and then when it comes time for them to like actually do something that they maybe don't want to do that's inconvenient to them all of a sudden it becomes too hard of a problem problem to solve. It's very, very funny that they're like that. So true, man. But in any event,
Starting point is 01:03:17 in any event, I will say this for Eminemore Rodriguez, Chuck, he looks like a real ass athlete. Does he not? He looks athletic as shit. Yeah. Show that real one more time. Show that real one more time. God, I wish I could see it. I want to see what you're talking about. Watch. That was brilliant, though. Like, yeah, these are all super, and then hear this, you know, no hands kind of Wonderboy thing. There was a lot of flips in this, this card. That's like the, that's at least three guys did flips after it. If you count Peyton Talbot's like a little twist he did in the aerial acrobatics.
Starting point is 01:03:47 I didn't pay, I forgot about it. These dudes, they love to backflip. Although no one's got the Justin Gachey off the top rope type thing. Yeah. Dude, I will say, you love a body shot. I mean, that's got to, like, that type of shot. When you see a guy just crumple like that, I mean, that's, that's pretty
Starting point is 01:04:03 satisfying. And usually, not usually, but often, let's say there's a delay. Like, they get hit and then there's a, and then all of a sudden, no, this one was immediate immediate pain. So I don't really know, go ahead. I was going to say, I thought it was a fucking low blow when he hit him at first.
Starting point is 01:04:19 That's what I. Audibly started yelling and fell to the ground. And I was like, oh, shit, he hit him in the dick. And then I was like, oh, no, that was just a really fucking nice kick to the stomach. Yeah. He dug up in there. That thing was vicious. All right.
Starting point is 01:04:33 I got something to say about this one. Okay. First of all, penis power. Pines power. He stiffens a pump. opponents. I'm saying. So much.
Starting point is 01:04:44 All right. So Damien Pinos defeats Andrei of. This is the guy that Gautier chased for three rounds. Well, Pinaas didn't. Look at this fucking uppercut. I got a point I want to make about it. Okay. Guys, I've made this point to you guys before,
Starting point is 01:04:57 but I want to say it again, the effortlessness of his punching, right? Do you guys remember Chuck? Do you remember Michael Vick? He would, like, I'm talking like Atlanta Falcons, Michael. Yeah. Right?
Starting point is 01:05:09 he would take it and his arm would barely move and that motherfucking ball would sail like 70 yards. I know. And you'd be like, and I cannot overstate this. Go look at Michael Vic highlights. You never see him like rare back and I'm like tries to heave it. You know, he's getting his whole body into it. It's just that.
Starting point is 01:05:28 And then the whole thing just, you know, he's breaking his receiver's fingers. Show this CO one more time. Look at how this, the motion on this uppercut he throws. There's nothing on it. Just touched him. like is that not insane Chuck that is crazy somebody it's so funny that you mentioned it somebody pointed this very thing out to me while we're watching it it's just like dude he didn't look like you loaded up on that at all you know um that i think you've made the
Starting point is 01:05:54 perfect analogy there because it is like that michael vickl exactly what you're just talking about like it would the greatest of ease he would you know do something that everybody else would show like strain to try to accomplish like he very poised what was that that that fight was over super quick too. It was like barely settling in. It was like 60 seconds. Yeah, one 15 into the first round. I mean, but that that dude, man, like I was, it was the last fight I was like, okay, he's a, he's a, he's a, he's a comer.
Starting point is 01:06:20 This is a guy who's going to be like, he's going to be there. Um, this to me was like, okay, let's see if he's going to be able to get through this one. And the ease in which he did it was what was wild. You know, I didn't expect it to be 65, whatever it was, 75 seconds. That's crazy, man. I'm trying to see here. He's been here since the content. Tender series. He just lost in Shuto Brazil back in 2024 and only his fifth fight. And here he beat the contender series. He stopped him in round one with Schultz. He beat him in round one. Cesar Almeida round one. Andre Pulaev in round one. Do they got to get this guy some tougher competition?
Starting point is 01:06:55 These dudes just can't hang with the punching power. He needs someone who's got a little bit more moxie to mix it up in that particular way. Otherwise, what's the point? Like this is not this is not. And honestly, if this kind of thing continues, it could actually fuck up. his development. You know what I mean? Yeah, no. You need him pressed a little bit. I will say that he's probably like, I mean, there were a lot of people came through in flying colors in this card, but like he was another one who just stood out.
Starting point is 01:07:20 We're like, okay. I mean, if they had just marketed to this differently, like, I feel like they could have had these guys like everybody's, you know, you control that. But here's the thing. Like, I'm with you. I agree that they should be doing this. But at the same time, it's like, dude, this card was, again, did it over deliver after the fact? Yes. But did it. have intrigue and star power ahead of time. The most important ingredients in the fight game, no it had none of it. Right.
Starting point is 01:07:45 And the gate was relatively small. However, my point would be this. Even with all of, you know, how bad the card was pre-fight in terms of the kinds of things that get people to put butts in seats. Yeah. It still did a $2.7 million gate. Insane, man. Like, dude, the UFC can trot out
Starting point is 01:08:04 overflow, literal overflow. Yeah. And made up, not made up titles, but like, you know, is this title fight that we got was that above board i don't know and still do nearly three million at the gate that's fucking insane dude the letters themselves now right it's just the letters themselves so crazy experience is the ufc experience exactly right metallica's on tour go see it i guess um marcus mcgee this one i don't know what to say about this fight marcus mcggy is just wildly better you know marcus mcggey gave yon all not all yon could handle but you know a McGee is a credible real fighter, right?
Starting point is 01:08:38 He is a good athlete. He comes from a good camp. He's got good experience, 12 and 2 record. He's a good fighter. You know, this was, what do you want to say, Chuck, academic? I don't have great analysis about this one because I don't know what it meant. The only thing I would say is, didn't that stoppage come with like a few seconds left in that round? Yeah, it's 458.
Starting point is 01:09:00 That was the weird part to me. I was like, well, dude, he could, you know, he's surviving. He got up. I understand he's rocked. He's not doing a lot there. But he's still kind of moving around. I was like, let him get to the to the damn end of the round. That would seem a little, you know, weird to me. But nice one from Marcus McGee.
Starting point is 01:09:15 Very straightforward, but he gets the job done. This is one of those ones where I'm like, dude, why is the fight like this in the UFC? Anthony went, who I've called one of his fights before. Yeah. Defeats Lucas Armand. I mean, he runs him in and just blitzes him. And you can see Armand's trying to throw, but he's getting now he's getting hit. And he just kind of falls over. and then they call it, it's like,
Starting point is 01:09:35 okay, yeah, man, if there's a big, scary, strong dude who's got first team all traps, which is absolutely what Anthony Wint is here. Yeah. Yeah, like guys who are not that great are going to get crumbled underneath it. Another flip, Chuck.
Starting point is 01:09:50 Yeah, that's four. But like, yeah. Well, I don't know. Yeah, nice win, I guess. I don't know. I mean, Lucas, I've seen that dude walking around here in Vegas like a thousand times since I've been here. Do you take any of those guys take off the shirt?
Starting point is 01:10:03 and go in there and fight, that's what it would look like, you know? Yeah. That's hilarious. I mean, on the one hand, it's like Wint needs more experience. And this is the kind of thing that also might happen on the regional scene. But now I'm like, this is when you talk about squash manager, this is what you're talking about. Because he showed no respect. The last two of these.
Starting point is 01:10:23 He went in there like, okay, dude, how long is it going to take me to like punch you and just knock you out quickly? Like it's just, he had no respect for what was going to come at him. The thing is, I think they thought with the Pulaev and the Pino's fight that Poliav would be a little bit more of a challenge than some of the other previous opponents. I didn't mind the matchmaking in that one as much. Yeah, I thought the last two of these, I'm like, what was, I don't, I don't understand what this was. Straight showcase.
Starting point is 01:10:45 Which, I mean, like you mentioned, I just don't feel like they used to book too many of these. It just so happened that this card had a lot of that, you know, but that, this one above all of them, you know. Not only did they not used to book these very often. They kind of used to have disdain for Strike Force. I know. When Strike Force did it. They would tell you they just got filler on there or they would have.
Starting point is 01:11:03 have you already know who's going to win and now they're like you know what it's kind of fun which it can be it absolutely can be yes all right uh this was to me one of the more interesting results of the night how about johnny walker defeating mick parkin this the flying knee doesn't work but that one sure does and absolutely sits him down chuck 335 of round number one he's got to go and be weird because that's just what he does jirating and cavorting john he's heard himself with that worm in the past hasn't he like he put himself on the sidelines doing that That's right. Remember that? I was surprised to see him break that out again. But Chuck, we talked about it. Some of these bigger light heavyweights going up to a barren wasteland of heavyweight.
Starting point is 01:11:43 They might be able to do something certainly a step in the right direction for Johnny Walker. Yeah. I mean, this is what he's capable of. You know, like he can do something like this spectacular. Like remember those like that was a circana. Like those guys early on, he was like blowing him up in seconds. Like this is what he can do. When he got that clinch, it was and he did that like flying knee. I was like, oh, here we go. But like this right here, boom. I mean, like when you see that, like on the replays and all, it was just that was,
Starting point is 01:12:10 that was the quintessential Johnny Walker right there, you know. Also, like how many heavy weights off, you know? How many heavy weights are leaving their feet to throw strikes? That's a great point. Both feet coming up. You don't see a lot of that. This is what I mean. Like if you are, and Walker was, is a good athlete and certainly was a good athlete for 205.
Starting point is 01:12:29 Like, dude, heavy weights now are just their feet planted. And it's a lot of that. and then like a high kick maybe if you get lucky. Like there's not a lot of dynamism to the movement. If you can introduce that, particularly at this end of the Mick Parkin end of the UFC heavyweight spectrum, you're going to feast on these guys. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:46 You did feast on. And this was one of the few fights that was kind of a coin flip, wasn't it? Like it wasn't one sided for one. Yeah, what were the odds on this one, Long Island? Right when it closed, it was a pickum. So Johnny was a favorite all week, but it came all the way down. I also want to point out, dude, the week after Hione Barcellos,
Starting point is 01:13:03 almost fucking died on a UFC broadcast. They Mick Parkins convulsing on the ground and they're like let's zoom in on this and play it for like 20 seconds on screen and then let's run it back in the replays as well. And then same thing when Pollyev died with penis. They're like, yo, we should zoom in on his dead
Starting point is 01:13:19 eyes right now. I'm like, what are they doing? Maybe they learn something. They're like we've got to show the phone. They're like, death sells. Let's keep it going. Speaking of death selling, this is another one of those. Jacoby Smith versus Bruce Whitehead. Like, dude, what the fuck is this. You're right. This is a real athlete just thrashing a, you know, a fighter doing their best.
Starting point is 01:13:42 But, you know, this was never going to go any other way. Right, Chuck? No, dude. I mean, and Jacoby Smith is one of those guys, too. Like, I've talked to him a couple times and there's another flip. Like, I feel like he's, he's ready for a guy who's going to challenge you. I understand you want to kind of slow roll, but like a little bit. better of a competition. I just felt like, what are we doing with this one other than a showcase? That's what I said. Some of these guys I felt like they were straight up like, here, go get a, go get a victory, you know? And this, this one, I think he was like minus 1,000. You know, people are just throwing him into parliets just to like give value to their card. And there was no, I didn't feel like there was a moment in this, in that exchange where you're like, you thought
Starting point is 01:14:23 that he might be in for a fight or anything like that. This of all the strike force like early fights that we were talking about, this one had that vibe the most. I like Jacoby Smith. I want to see more from him, but I don't know what this was. All right. However, more interesting to me, Alexander Hernandez defeats Rafael Dosanjos. Dosangos looked good early, Chuck. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:14:49 But by round two, here's the thing, man. He just doesn't have the ability to tolerate punishment anymore, which is noteworthy for a couple of reasons. One, that's one of these telltale signs that you're obviously getting old. he's 41 years of age. The other one is that Dosanjos was pretty fucking durable. I mean, he got put out by Jeremy Stevens early, but I've seen him take some big punches from 170-pounders and react better than this.
Starting point is 01:15:14 He'd been off for a long time, Chuck. He's not been competitive very recently, both in terms of winning and then actually getting to the cage. He gets beaten here. I'll say this, Chuck, a prime RDA would never lose to Alexander Hernandez. It is time for him to go. No, I agree with you 100%.
Starting point is 01:15:29 I wanted to believe otherwise, especially in that first time, like, all right, okay. But then like what you just said, you see kind of like him, you know, it just swings so drastically the other way. They're like, okay, that was his chance. That was his chance and he didn't get it. And I just don't know what else.
Starting point is 01:15:45 What else can you do? And again, this is a guy who has summited. Like he's been a champion. He's done stuff. So I don't know unless there's some financial. I mean, all these guys have their reasons for keeping going. But like, I don't understand why you would, why you keep it going at this point either. Nice win for Alexander Hernandez.
Starting point is 01:16:01 who's beating all the unks. Carlos Diego Fajara, right? He beat him, I believe. He beat RDA. That's true. Who else am I forgetting from the Alexander Hernandez run here? Hold on, let me see. So we also have, he lost to Ratha Garcia recently.
Starting point is 01:16:14 He beat Diego Fahara. That's it. And then Chase Hooper, who is the other side of the coin. Yeah. He's just getting on his unc circuit. He's just starting out here. He's going to keep rolling. You can build a whole career.
Starting point is 01:16:24 Yeah. I don't think you can't. How did you guys, Long Island, you come in here too. How did you guys score the Vonk. Votori Nardi F fight because honestly I thought Votori may have taken it but I can't
Starting point is 01:16:37 I mean I gave him two and three I thought it was a close fight though but I mean is there anything more predictable than Marvin Votory going the distance That was the slam dunk on a card where everything was basically a finish in first round mostly you knew Vittory was going the distance
Starting point is 01:16:53 Chuck what's wrong with Marvin Votory I don't know man like I just do you take anything from it like i don't feel like he adds much like from what we've seen in the past he's probably not as good as he was at one point but like i just don't see him adding anything at this point like it just like every fight feels like the same to me there's certain guys that have this feeling they just they feels like you're just on recurring like nothing new happens when you watch them fight you know so i don't know what the deal is austin in 2021 you know what i mean
Starting point is 01:17:25 like yeah i just don't think he's going to be a little bit i just don't think he's getting better like he that's that you know you know what i mean like he's not developing and he's just kind of stuck and he doesn't have extra tools to advance his attacks in ways he's certainly tough as shit i give him that he's durable as hell the constant switching of gyms i don't think is helping him either he was at uh where's he out now kings he's back at kings he started out at kings i know but then he went extreme coutore then he went ATT now he's back at kings all within like four fights it's like four different i feel like they showcased him too much back in the day, like they'd put him in big spots,
Starting point is 01:18:02 like very highly visible spots against these guys. And he was doing okay, like he was winning. But that slow kind of falling off of the radar all the way down to now where you're like on a card that's being universally kind of reamed for not being very good. And you're on like an early prelim. I mean, that trajectory is just not very good, you know? And unfortunately, like you said, he's just not adding anything.
Starting point is 01:18:26 It's like the only thing he could have done here was go out there and look a little different, do something different where you're like, okay, let's see what this Victoria does. But he just doesn't seem to be doing that. Well, we'll see what happens from here. UFC has favored him long term, but he is not making it easy on them. And then last but not least, Court McGee finally calls it a career after getting iced by Eric Nolan.
Starting point is 01:18:48 Here is the end. This was the third round, not a first round stoppage, a third round stoppage. But in the end, Chuck, Cort McGee, he is 41 years of age. He made his UFC debut all the way back on the Ultimate Fighter Season 11. Who, listen to these names, Seth Bizzinski, Nick Ring. Remember these names? Oh, my Lord. James Hammer Tree.
Starting point is 01:19:09 And then Brad Tavares, he's all in the ultimate fighter who he'd beaten. And then he beats Chris McCray. He beats Ryan Jensen, Dong Yi Yang, loses a couple. He beat Josh Neer at 157. Wow, Josh Neer. Geez. Yeah, the dentist, the original dentist. So what I'd like to make is in 2024, Tim Means got a nice win.
Starting point is 01:19:26 Sorry, Court McGee got a win over. him means. But basically it's just been nothing but losses. We knew this is going to be his retirement fight. Any thoughts on the career of Port McGee? I mean, if you've talked to the guy, Salt of the Earth, like one of those guys, he's overcome so much in his life, the fact that he was able to make a career out of fighting. He was getting the chance to go out on a high note. I think he's from Salt Lake, right? Like, I know he's from Utah. Like, he's from that area. And like for him to get the chance to do that, I feel bad that he didn't get it done. You know, like you would like to see guys go out on their own terms like that and get a victory. But, you know, I think. I think,
Starting point is 01:19:58 think I don't know how many fights he ended up having in the UFC. I thought for some reason he had retired years ago and that's not I'm not trying to throw shade but it's kind of it was surprising to me to see him pop up I guess all these years later on this kind of card. But a great, a great run ultimately in terms of just longevity in a league where that's very difficult, you know, fought some good names, good showings. I think he made some money. I mean, like, good for him.
Starting point is 01:20:22 He changed his life. You know what I mean? Through the ultimate fight and all that stuff. So good for him. I mean, he very easily could have been, you know, dead. Yeah. Yeah. Like, he, this was all in a sense. He was dead. He came back.
Starting point is 01:20:37 You know what I mean? You could have like, you know, permanently stayed that way, obviously. And all of this was just a testament to the, you know, was he the best fighter in the world at any point? No. But, you know, he had remarkable, I think life success as proof that you can have second and even third acts if you're really committed to it. Like, it's possible. Redemption and
Starting point is 01:21:02 all the attending things that come with it, they are real and they're possible. So, congratulations to him on a job well done. Obviously, even if he didn't get the win last night. So that is all of the fights from last night. Now we've got some announcements to get to, but
Starting point is 01:21:19 first, street fighter fans, and I know that we have many of them who watch the show, the weight is almost over. In fact, I saw, I saw, I guyle and attendance last night, Chuck. This action-packed movie has real martial arts, practical stunts, game-inspired fight choreography, and all the iconic characters that you grew up with,
Starting point is 01:21:40 Ryu, Ken, Chung Lee. The whole world comes alive with that nostalgic 90s energy, but for the new generation. Party like it's 1993 with action that feels bold and fast on the biggest screen possible. Experience Street Fighter, a must-see theatrical event, only in theaters. October 16th,
Starting point is 01:21:59 get your tickets now. As I mentioned, Cody Rhodes, who was Gile, was in attendance last night, dressed as Gile. Anyway, so that happened.
Starting point is 01:22:12 Okay. Let's talk about some of the announcements that we got from UFC 335. Now, these course came out during the course of the UFC 332 broadcast, Chuck. Let's talk about them here if we can. I'm going to go the second one first, Long Island. Let's talk about this.
Starting point is 01:22:31 Sergei Pavlovich is going to be in this. This is the Co-Main event, as I understand. Well, did they confirm it as Co-Maine? I'm assuming it's Co-Maine. I don't know if they confirmed it, but I also assume it is. Yeah. I'm going to imagine this is Co-Maine, December 12th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. So Poetan is back, and he's going to take on Sergei Pavlovich.
Starting point is 01:22:52 They've got Poetan as a slight dog. I got to tell you, I think this is a terrible fight for Poetan. Maybe it's more winnable than the Gone fight, but I am not a big fan of Poetton at heavyweight and I don't think it's going to go great for him here. What is your sense? That's exactly my sense. I
Starting point is 01:23:08 kind of hope, and I knew he probably wouldn't because he's put on weight, like he's I think he's pretty committed at this point to try his hand as a heavyweight. And obviously if he wins this, I bet the UFC tries to expedite him back into a title. Oh, he's a five round co-main event. Okay. Which
Starting point is 01:23:24 this is tough, man. I just don't know. Like when I watched him against Gone Pereira, it just didn't feel like he was going to, it didn't feel like he was the guy that we'd seen at the previous weight classes. It just didn't feel like the same guy to me. So unless he's going to do something completely different, maybe he's more lived in and his bigger body,
Starting point is 01:23:45 and he goes in there and he does work. I mean, to me, I just didn't really want to see him pursue this. You take away, I guess, what the most exciting part of what your arsenal is, when you're lean and you're just you're you're kind of explosive that way he just didn't show any of that against gone so i guess in a weird way if he's stubborn he wants to do it this is his chance to to show that what did you say the line was on this did you say he's an underdog yeah uh yes poet on plus 11th tough dude isn't it that's a toughie i'm like i i i kind of agree with that i don't i don't expect him to go in there and just walk through pavlovich you know yeah i'm i'm i'm not
Starting point is 01:24:20 super high on pavlovich but i'm less high on poiton at heavyway problem we saw it's on you know yeah i don't know now the main event of this one is going to be charles olivaara taking on diego lopez for the bmf title chuck i'm going to give you my opinion on this one okay i don't hate it i think if you want if you are trying to matchmake in something that is approximating bmph aesthetics and again i know that there's people are like the whole thing is stupid fine i don't i don't necessarily disagree but if you're trying to do it it and you're trying to match make it a certain way, given who else is available at 55, this is by no means the worst one you could have done.
Starting point is 01:25:05 I mean, again, you look at this fight. Like one thing I've noticed about like, like, MMA fans groaning this year about the action ahead of time to look at a card and what rightly be like, oh, there's no star power on this one. And they're like, oh, I don't want to see it. And then the fight happens. And then they're like, you know what, that was much better than I anticipated. I'm not saying you can't have a problem with Olavera fighting Lopez generally and specifically for a BMF title.
Starting point is 01:25:26 What I am saying is by the time that fight is over, I don't think that many people are going to be complaining. Right. I wonder what Diego Lopez has on the UFC at this point, though, too. Like, not, you know, the Volcanowski thing, the way that whole thing played out, like he gets the tie shot, okay, but then he gets it again. And we've talked about this a lot.
Starting point is 01:25:49 Like, you're just kind of like, okay, why are we doing this again? We've already seen it. And then you get kind of a ultimate. thud, you know, in terms of like what did he bring to the table of second? I'm nothing, you know, he shows up at a lot of these events. I mean, he's at every UFC event, I feel like, and I have nothing against Diego Lopez. I'm just like, it's funny to me that this guy, he kind of defaults into big positions again and again and again. I understand he's very exciting, but I will say that he, the UFC tends to really favor this guy. They put him in very
Starting point is 01:26:17 advantageous positions in terms of visibility heading into fights. It remains to be seen that he can show up and beat a guy like Charles Olivera. That's where the intrigue comes into me. The BMF, I'm like, okay, if you need to throw some kind of, you know, symbol on this fight, go ahead. But I got to say, like, the way Charles Olivera won the BMF kind of went against the spirit of the ordeal to begin with. And I'm like, some people that turn them off, some people don't care, whatever it is.
Starting point is 01:26:43 Like, but he, you know, it wasn't like just go out there, Rock, Simon, in the spirit of what the BMF is supposed to be. And then you, you factor in Diego Lopez, who does fight that way. and I guess there's an intrigue to saying like does Charles say like okay if I'm defending this thing I have to fight a certain way and in that way he would have to accommodate Diego Lopez a little bit
Starting point is 01:27:02 and I guess that's the game within the game but ultimately it doesn't really need that accessory to me yeah Long Island as the resident hater of all things BMF what is your read on this fight? You know I fucking hate it no I like the fight itself
Starting point is 01:27:15 but obviously the BMF thing is just fucking stupid you know I put this on the undercar Put these, I know we have another fight to get to, but put these three fights on the undercard of the main card and put a fucking real title in the main event. Like, I would love to see Charles and Diego fight. Just, I don't need the belt. And I don't need it to be five rounds either, but I'm okay with it being five rounds. That's cool.
Starting point is 01:27:38 If you're looking at the rankings at lightweight, so at the top five you have, Gachi is one or unranked, I should say, because he's champion. And then Ilya is at one, Armine's at two. So we were thinking we're going to get Gachy Armin. Olivera was at three. He's out. I don't think they're going to do Ilya max again. That doesn't make sense. Patty's sitting at five.
Starting point is 01:28:00 I mean, I'm not saying that this necessarily makes it more likely. I mean, maybe I am saying that. I think it makes it slightly more likely you get Ilya versus Patty, which again, we've all said is like the one to make. It certainly makes the most amount of sense.
Starting point is 01:28:12 Now that it takes Charles off the board and leaves Max in a place where it doesn't, some of those matchups. You could still get something else that's possible. but I think it's starting to look more and more likely, Chuck, wisely that UFC is doing Toporia versus Pimble at some future date. Yeah. You know, let's hope so. Do you, I know you've been, you've been critical of Diego.
Starting point is 01:28:32 I mean, to me, oh, yeah. This is a moment, like, where I'm like, okay, dude, you're going against a guy who's very good everywhere, you know? Yes. The thing is, some of the things that plague Diego, I don't know will plague him as much here. Yeah. Because, like, you know, a guy like Volcanovsky who weaponizes movement, it's really not what Olivaa does. Oliva just, you know, like you kind of just, he's all over you or vice versa, you know. So I think this one could play.
Starting point is 01:29:02 I mean, I would probably bet Olavera, but I think Lopez is capable of winning this one. Yeah. Yeah. So we'll see. All right. Whether or not it matters for the title or something. Right. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:14 And then last one at least they announced, I actually, I actually. going to like this one. Joe Piper, who I thought they were trying to fast track with that Izzy fight. Instead, they're going to give him bow nickel in this one. Piper, it was so funny. Piper was sitting at like 14 or 15 when he fought number six Izzy. Now Pfeiffer's four and he's fighting number 12 nickel. So he's returning the favor. Chuck, I got to say of all the fights they announced yesterday, I mean, Olivera Lopez obviously has more going for it for a few reasons. But just in terms of pure intrigue on this one, I'm actually fascinated by this matchmaking. What do you make of it? Same here. I mean, again, we're just dealing in like, it's just,
Starting point is 01:29:54 I guess it's the new norm where they kind of take a guy who makes a point and he's up in the rank, his fights down again. But this is a very different setup in terms of a bone nickel. Because wherever he's at, it doesn't really matter, right? His credentials go back into a way that you're like, he's got way more juice, you know, than like most of the guys in the, in the top. space. Like, I feel like it actually, it makes some sense, you know, to, uh, it makes some sense for this fight to be going on. Because I feel like we value, um, Bo Nickel more than, you know, than your typical guy sitting at that spot, right? Like this, his intrigue and his all that stuff. And also, I, I don't know what the line will end up being on this, but. Bo Nickel could, I mean,
Starting point is 01:30:34 Booneicle could win this fight, right? Like, this, to me feels like this is a bone, this could be a bone nickel fight, you know, like this is that type of thing where it's like, it's like, kind of more from his proving ground, okay, are you ready for a guy like Piper? That's what it feels like to me. Yeah. And also for Piper too, like Piper starts strong, kind of fades over the course of things. Maybe Nickel could drag him out a little bit, a little bit later, make them work in the wrestling. I don't know. I just feel like if Nichols like, oh, I'm going to slug it out with this guy, that probably doesn't go great. But if Nicol mixes it up, not that Piper can't wrestle, he can wrestle, but, you know, nickel should be a little bit better in that regard.
Starting point is 01:31:07 You know, they're finally giving Nicol a chance to step up here a little bit. I feel like the consequences either way give you an interesting result at 185 pounds. I kind of like it. I kind of like that one, actually. I mean, in terms of a bang for your buck, like we always talk about like, it has to have that kind of intrigue. You know, when you're talking about the swing bout and these types of things, to me, that's the perfect kind of swing bout.
Starting point is 01:31:30 Like there's all kinds of intrigue. I used to look at like, that's the bang for your buck if you were buying a pay-per-view because you'd be like, all right, maybe I'm on the fence that maybe I don't know, but then you're like, I want to see what happens in this fight. That's kind of the intrigue it holds, you know? Fair enough. All right. With that in mind, that is the recap from what we saw last night. So we don't have DMs today because we didn't have a chance to get everything out because we had the show on Sundays. However, we do have your artwork. We're about to put it on our proverbial fridge. It's time for fan subs. You've got mail. Viewers. As always, morning combat at gmail.com is going to be the place to send.
Starting point is 01:32:11 those for this segment dead wrongs as well as just to reach the show generally chuck i don't know we don't really talk about this long island danny sagura yesterday after every one of his predictions that went right was texting both of us independently by the way like not on the same chain to be like i told you bitches da da da there's a really good meme about danny in fan subs right now that i can't went about him winning yesterday so it's okay yeah so danny made a bunch of like over the course of being on show, Chuck. Of course, the predictions be like, you'll bet the house on this fighter. And then the fighter would get like, you know,
Starting point is 01:32:47 K-O'd in 30 seconds or some shit. And so people, we had them on Friday. And then there was a bunch of fan subs. We had saved up for him to have to see. And they were all roasting the shit out of him, of course. And so on Saturday, he was like, I fucking told you this. So he was, you can tell he was feeling that. I love it.
Starting point is 01:33:05 Yeah. All right. We got a meme here from Archie. We are signing you because we need someone for Gable Steve's Oh yeah, dude, did you see this on the contender series? He's terrible. He's not good. He makes mistakes. Oh, I did see this.
Starting point is 01:33:19 Yes, I saw this. Okay. What was the guy's name, Long Island? Who was this guy he was berating? Diop was the last name. Dio P. Dude, Dana gets out there and is like, you're a piece of shit. I've never seen a fighter as bad as you.
Starting point is 01:33:31 Here's your contract. You're welcome to the UFC. I'm like, dude, what the fuck was that? I know, dude. I know. That is funny. That's what I mean, I've never seen that from Dana.
Starting point is 01:33:43 And like, okay, let me bait the hook one way and just tell you how bad you and then say like, don't let me down. Yeah. What? That's so funny, man. All right, from NYCT, that he writes, I noticed during an interview with John Nash on LT's channel that John complained about lawnmower noise coming from his yard, hating long care, John Nash. You guys are united. It was so funny. We start the interview.
Starting point is 01:34:08 He was like, I think my neighbor's mowing the lawn. I'm like, are we neighbors? How did that happen? you know all right marcos has a meme Luke's neighbor when he starts talking about
Starting point is 01:34:19 fighter pay Dana yeah that's day no that's my oh yeah yeah that's my that's wario that's the warrior data there mowing the fucking lawn
Starting point is 01:34:29 they don't even care anymore I don't think they care I mean I don't think they love it but they're like we won let's just be honest we won yeah all right from Sean P
Starting point is 01:34:39 we've got four of these let's see what do you believe the source of your anxiety to be let's see Donald Trump Dana White and Yahoo neighbors lawnmower racist sexist homophobic MMA fans Burke Kreischer Tuky running wild BC's humor donks who used bias instead of biased they dicked walrus donks who can't define integer
Starting point is 01:35:00 and then audio issues and tech problems yeah that's pretty fair that's pretty fair fair could probably add Washington uh Washington sports names today look at this So I made a, I joke on, I don't know if it was my, I don't know what, I think it was my live chat. No, it was here on Friday. Maybe it was your live chat. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:35:19 I can't remember. I can't make ketchup. I don't know what, but someone asked me like what the worst condiment is. And everyone always expects me to say yellow mustard, but no, dude. Chuck, how many times have you been to a restaurant and you order like, I don't know, something that you can put ketchup on fries or whatever? And then they're like, um, we do things a little differently around here. and they bring you house-made ketchup.
Starting point is 01:35:42 And it tastes like Alpo that someone just poured red food coloring on top of. I know this. Exactly. I echo everything you're saying here. That drives me insane, man. I'm remembering now, Luke, it was your live chat because you say ketchup.
Starting point is 01:35:57 And I remember it driving me. I was like, it's ketchup. It's ketchup with a neat. You say ketchup. Well, I mean, if you look how it's spelled in other languages or other varieties, it's K-A- or C-A-T-S-U-P. That's right. So that
Starting point is 01:36:11 ease a little soft, you know. And the etymology goes back to catching a tomato. And no, I'm kidding about that. But I do hate housemade. I hate housemade stuff like that. It's like, why are you being weird? We don't. We put pencil shavings in our pineapple juice.
Starting point is 01:36:29 Why would you do that? I'm good. See it. Thanks, man. Why would you do that? You love that meme when the guy did that. That's so funny. All right. When the server says the ketchup is house made, Luke, calculating drastic.
Starting point is 01:36:39 integer reduction. For tip, fuck that. That's not the waiter's fault. That's the house's fault. I give good tips. I always leave 20% of the war. How pleased she is presenting that.
Starting point is 01:36:48 Yeah. Look at this bullshit-ass condiment. All eight, Luke, or Burt Crashier live in D.C. No, I'll take the eight-dick walrus. I'd rather be, I'd rather be fucked to death. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:37:00 All right. Left Lane has some memes for us. When Danny Seguera's lock of the weak hits, did the lock of the week hit? I don't remember who is lock of the oh iminal rodriguez i think might have been his lock of the week so yeah he got it he got it all right fair enough babe i thought you said we had to move out we did but immanel rodriguez got it back for us hell yeah bet the house baby this is the meme i was talking about
Starting point is 01:37:27 this one made me that that's so great he got it he got it back redemption arc for danny cigar all right got a way when penis explodes powerful shots early and finishes in 75 seconds Oh, yeah. That's a great one. That's a great one. Yeah, I do. Whenever they're talking about him, I do think of BC quite a bit. So I feel like that's a dead on, you know.
Starting point is 01:37:50 Genghis Bong says, here are some memes I made inspired by the amazing Luke Thomas channel. Oh, God, here we go. El Gringo Poppy when he goes to Columbia. That's true. That's a fair one. You got to read the bottom, too. A new king has arrived.
Starting point is 01:38:03 Well, that was the title of the video because I was reviewing the root beer ghost. But that's the theme of all of his memes is putting a title up top and then your existing title. That's funny, man. Oh, I see. Okay. All right. Next. Don't say Uncle Luke doesn't help is the title.
Starting point is 01:38:19 And that, my friends, is why I always wear a helmet while pooping. Yes. That's funny. Looks like a very natural picture there, too. Reading comprehension skills. I don't have any. Yep. That's a problem as well.
Starting point is 01:38:31 That's a problem as well. Hey, you guys hear Godzilla? Is that Tugie? Yeah, that's old Godzilla. Just fucking yelling and screaming. All right. And then last but not least, we've got a bunch of these from Danger Mouse. Let's see what we got.
Starting point is 01:38:44 All right. What do we say to starting on time? Not today, donks. They always get on my ass. They're like, why is it always 11.02 or 11.03. And I'm like, you know why? Because we're chatting. That's why.
Starting point is 01:38:56 Yeah. All right. It always occurs to us to do a show at about 11.02. Oh, shit. We should probably do the show. Yeah. Ruthlessly destroy a child's dreams. Humor of a small child.
Starting point is 01:39:05 Chuck, did you see this one? No. My daughter was like, you know, every year that's like, oh, one year I want to be a chef. One year I want to be a police officer. You know, and always changes. And then this year it was magician and grandpa, my dad goes, yeah, but they don't make any money. You don't want to be that. You told me this.

How the don't see the morning combat sensors. Remember, no 9-11 or Austrian painter memes. A loud, Comrade. Yes. True. Kind of true. Believe me, if they didn't, there'd be some shit
Starting point is 01:40:01 sneaking through. I love when I see the ones that don't make it. It's like, it's like, it's oh, there. Sadly, yeah. Sadly, sadly, sadly, they're often some of the best ones. But we just can't. That is true. That is true. You just can't. I recently on my watchalong showed all the ones in our group chat, aka all the ones that have
Starting point is 01:40:15 been denied. Yes. Do people love it? People were loving all of those. They're very, very good. Very edgy. They're not quite ready for prime time. I think we have two more or no. No, that's it. That's it. Okay. Very good. As always, morning combat at gmail.com. We appreciate it when you send all of those.
