I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley.
It's Friday, February 9th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
President Joe Biden's hastily arranged press conference Thursday night to address the special
Council report, which labeled him as a well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory, raised
more questions about his mental acuity. He denied the accuracy of several findings in the report
regarding his handling of classified documents, and he claimed he is the person best prepared to be
the next president of the United States. The 81-year-old was combative with the press and
mistakenly identified the president of Egypt as the president of Mexico. As you know, initially
the president of Mexico, Sisi, did not want to open a president of
the gate to allow humanitarian material to get in.
I talk to him. I convinced to open the gate.
In addition, he criticized Israel's handling of the war on Hamas as being heavy-handed.
I'm of the view, as you know, that the conduct of the response in the Gaza Strip has been
over the top.
Democrats and Republicans acknowledge the report and Biden's response to it have been
politically damaging.
Donald Trump swept the Nevada caucus, winning 99% of the vote and all of the state's 25 delegates.
Trump's main opponent, Nikki Haley, skipped the caucus and participated in the primary earlier this week,
where she placed second to a none of these candidates option.
The next contest will take place in South Carolina on February 24th.
Consumer credit card debt has reached a new record of $1.13 trillion.
Daily Wire's senior editor, Joel Needler, has more.
The average amount of debt carried by individuals rose by about 10% to $6,360, according to credit card monitoring agency TransUnion.
Another troubling sign is that defaults on credit card payments were up 50% in 2023, and serious delinquencies, which are defaults of more than 90 days, are at their highest levels in more than a decade.
Yet consumers continue to open up new credit cards, according to financial technology company wise, more than 20 million new accounts were opened in the last quarter of 2023.
The Federal Communications Commission has outlawed robocalls that use AI-generated voices.
Thursday's decision says that voice is created using artificial intelligence can fool voters and
mislead consumers and will not be allowed.
FCC chair Jessica Rosen-Worsel issued a statement saying, quote,
bad actors are using AI-generated voices in unsolicited robocalls to extort vulnerable
family members, imitate celebrities, and misinformed voters.
Companies that continue the practice will be fined.
Two U.S. women say they were drugged and raped in the Bahamas on Sunday after their cruise ship docked in Freeport in Grand Bahama.
Daily Wire reporter Amanda Presta Jocamo reports.
The women say Carnival Cruise Line did not warn them about the dangers of entering the country on an excursion despite a U.S. State Department warning to, quote,
exercise increased caution in the Bahamas due to crime.
A toxicology test showed the women had been drugged with cocaine, opiates, and other drugs, which have been placed.
placed in the drinks they were offered by resort staff members.
The women claimed they were then raped by the men who were wearing staff uniforms.
The women's attorney says Carnival Cruise Line was negligence.
Carnival specifically in this case, they have a legal duty to warn about dangerous conditions
that they should have known about.
And what's also remarkable in this case is there's a federal statute that's called the
the Crucub Vessel Safety and Security Act of 2010 that requires victims of crime
at the high sea and being in the Bahamas would constitute being on the high seas, they're supposed
to offer them contact with the FBI.
None of that was offered.
Carnival actually markets this particular excursion on their website.
They actually profit from, in most of the excursion cases, they profit from the excursion operator
because they're the ones that are actually bringing them the business.
So Carnival should have, what should have happened is they should have,
warned our clients.
Two jet blue planes made contact at Boston Logan Airport in the de-icing area on Thursday.
According to the Massachusetts Port Authority, one plane's wing tip touched another's tail.
While no injuries were reported, both flights were canceled.
Here's a passenger describing the collision.
I'm on the left side of the plane just above the wing, and I see where there's another
park plane there going to get de-iced.
And I said, geez, we're pretty darn close to that thing.
And sure enough, as we passed, felt a bump.
This is the third plane collision at Logan Airport in the last year,
and it comes amid a rise in other issues across the aviation industry.
The newly released federal student aid forms are causing parents and students' headaches and delays.
The free application for federal student aid forms were released in December,
three months later than originally scheduled.
The Department of Education billed the new forms as quicker and easier to complete,
But glitches in the online system caused the forms to be removed from the website several times,
and the education department says colleges will not receive the information until March.
Now parents are concerned their financial aid will be delayed or may never be approved.
As of last week, only 3 million people had submitted their forms.
In years past, that number was closer to 18 million applications.
Here's Jamie Gosling from Phoenix Union High School.
Before kiddos could apply in October,
those financial aid packages could have come out December, January. Now we're looking at April.
And Super Bowl 58 kicks off in Las Vegas this weekend at 6.30 p.m. Eastern Time, featuring the Kansas City
Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers. Sunday's game is a rematch of the 2020 game, which the Chiefs won.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes leads the Chiefs and is seeking his third Super Bowl win,
while San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy is making his first Super Bowl.
Super Bowl appearance ever. As of right now, San Francisco is slightly favored by odds makers, but most experts are picking Kansas City to repeat.
