It's Thursday, September 19th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
President Biden addressed the Economic Club of Washington today,
touting what he said is economic progress,
while also acknowledging major challenges.
Daily Wire's senior editor, Cabot Phillips, has more.
President Biden specifically addressed rising wages and inflation,
as well as the Federal Reserve's recent rate cut,
while emphasizing the need to tackle affordability issues like housing and child care.
Invest in all of America and in all Americans.
When we do things for the poor and have they have a ladder up,
the middle class does very well and the wealthy continue to do very well.
We all do well, and we are doing well.
Biden later falsely claimed that he had, quote, never once spoken to Fed Chair Jerome Powell since becoming president, but the two have met numerous times.
Reactions to yesterday's cut have been mixed with some economists saying it was the right move, while others disagreed.
CNBC's Brian Sullivan, for example, called the cut bizarre, noting that while Powell said the, quote, economy is strong overall, they still decided to cut rates, a move usually reserved for weakening economies.
Israel launched overnight air strikes on Hezbollah targets.
southern Lebanon today. Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has the latest.
The strikes come after two waves of explosions in Lebanon earlier this week,
where electronic communications devices detonated, killing dozens and wounding thousands.
Israel is widely believed to be behind the blasts. Officials have not confirmed nor denied
those suspicions. According to the New York Times, Israel infiltrated Hezbollah's supply chain
and manufactured pagers placed with explosives for the terrorist group.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah condemned the attacks,
calling them more crimes and promising retaliation.
A new report from a media watchdog says coverage of former President Trump
following the second attempt on his life on Sunday has been overwhelmingly negative.
The Media Research Center reviewed campaign coverage from ABC, CBS, and NBC between September 15th and 17th,
and found that 95% of the commentary about Trump was negative,
despite 70% being about the assassination attempt.
Critics claim that Trump's rhetoric is contributing to political violence,
while Trump and his allies accused Democrats of fueling the hostility against him.

A 12-day manhunt has ended after Kentucky State Police believe a body found Wednesday near the I-75 shootings is that of the suspect Joseph Couch.
Authorities discovered the body in Laurel County, alongside items they believe belonged to Couch.
He'd been wanted in connection with a shooting that wounded five people along the interstate.
Before the incident, Couch allegedly texted a woman saying he intended, quote,
to kill a lot of people and take his own life afterward.
Here's State Police Commissioner Philip Burnett.
The main thing that is very good tonight is that the people of Laurel County can rest easy, much easier,
knowing that this manhunt has now come to a conclusion.
Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson is criticizing the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service
for dragging their feet in the investigation into the first assassination attempt against Trump.
Daily Wire reporter Amanda Presto Jocamo reports.
Johnson, who is a ranking member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee,
says that the committee has been denied critical materials like autopsy and
trajectory reports. He also noted that key interviews, including with the sniper who reportedly
stopped the July 13th attack, have yet to be conducted. Despite the Secret Service claiming to be
cooperative, Johnson described the documents that they did provide as heavily redacted and
lacking vital details, which has fueled bipartisan frustration. Here's Johnson recently on Jesse
Waters' primetime. We have now interviewed 12 people, 12. The FBI is interviewed over a
thousand. Over a month ago, I asked Deputy Director of Bate to provide us the transcripts of those
interviews, the 302s. He said, okay, we'll get those two as soon as possible. We haven't gotten one.
We'll get documents a day, sometimes minutes before we actually interview somebody, which makes
very difficult for us to interview us. And at a recent rally in New York, former President
Trump stopped for a surprise visit with an eight-year-old fan who has a rare brain disorder.
Liam and his family were invited to Trump's rally where Liam got the chance to meet his
hero in person.
I'm supposed to be at that stage, but that doesn't matter.
Because I got you the best present you'll ever have.
It's the best present you'll ever have.
How are you?
