I'm Daily Wire, editor-in-chief John Bickley with Georgia Howl.
It's Tuesday, April 2nd, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
President Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke this morning for the first time since their November summit.
Officials say the check-in call centered around.
China's trade with Russia amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, cyber attacks and election security,
as well as ways to combat the trafficking of illicit narcotics.
Fentanyl was not specifically mentioned in the readout.
Among other topics, officials say the call was an opportunity for the leaders to ensure
that they are responsibly managing the competition between their countries.
The judge presiding over Trump's hush money trial expanded a partial gag order over the former
president last night.
Daily Wire Senior Editor Cabot Phillips has the latest.
The news comes after President Trump's ongoing criticism of presiding Judge Juan Mershahn
and follows the former president mentioning Mershans' daughter and social media posts.
Mershawson responded to Trump's comments by barring him from speaking about his family members
and those of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Brack.
The latest expansion comes on top of a previously implemented gag order,
which barred Trump from speaking about the witnesses, prosecutors, court employees, and their relatives.
For their part, Trump's lawyers have argued that the post,
our protected political speech, all while Manhattan prosecutors urged Mershan to crack down on
Trump's escalating rhetoric. Trump's attorney went on to say the former president's comments were not
intended to interfere with the trial or cause harm, but suggested that he was indeed trying to
pressure the judge. Trump had asked Mershon last year to step down from the case.
A judge has rejected several motions made by the president's son Hunter Biden to dismiss tax charges.
Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has more.
Last year, the younger Biden was hit with eight tax-related charges. He is pleaded not guilty.
Of the eight motions made by Hunter's legal team, one of them focused on a failed plea deal
and argued that certain charges could be set aside if the terms were honored.
Another motion argued that Hunter had been selectively targeted. Hunter's attorneys said that
the leading prosecutor, special counsel David Weiss, was not properly appointed to his position.
The judge rejected the motions of dismissal and said the president's son
fails to present a reasonable inference, let alone clear evidence of discriminatory effect and
discriminatory purpose. Hunter attorney Abby Lowell said they strongly disagree with the decision
and will continue to challenge the abnormal way the special counsel handled this investigation.
The special counsel's office declined to comment on the order.

Comments by Robert Kennedy Jr. proclaiming President Biden is a worse threat to democracy than any president in history have gone viral.
The independent presidential candidate was asked by CNN host Aaron Burnett about whether he thought Trump or Biden were threats to democracy.
Kennedy laid out why he believes Biden is absolutely worse than Trump.
President Biden is the first president in history that has used the federal agencies to censor political.
speech, so to censor his opponent.
I can say that because I just won a case in the Federal Court of Appeals and now before
the Supreme Court that shows that he started censoring, not just me.
37 hours after he took the oath of office, he was censoring me.
No president in the country has ever done that.
The greatest threat to democracy is not somebody who questions election returns, but
a president of the United States who used the power of his office to force the social media
companies, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, to open a portal and give access to that portal to the FBI,
to the CIA, to the IRS, to SISA, to NIH, to censor his political critics.
Wisconsin's Democratic Governor Tony Evers vetoed a bill today that would have limited transgender
athletes to competing against their own biological sex.
Wisconsin's Republican-controlled legislature had fully passed the bill despite Evers' promise to
veto it. He blocked the bill in the capital surrounded by other Democratic lawmakers and transgender
advocates. When you veto something, you don't date it, you don't do anything, you just put not
approved on the line. Thanks, everybody. Republicans do not have the votes needed to override the veto.
And Lou Contor, the last survivor of the USS Arizona battleship, which sunk in the bombing
of Pearl Harbor, has died at the age of 102.
Contor's daughter said he suffered congestive heart failure and passed away Monday in his home of Grass Valley, California.
The December 7, 1941 attack by Japan resulted in the death of a total of 1,177 sailors and Marines on board the Arizona where Contor was a quartermaster.
Politico reports that Contor was standing on the main deck of the Arizona as Japanese planes flew overhead that fateful morning.
