I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley.
It's Wednesday, February 7th.
And this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
The $118 billion bipartisan border and national security bill failed to pass in the Senate.
On this vote, the yeas are full.
49, the nays are 50, three-fifths of the senators duly chosen and sworn not having voted in the
affirmative. The motion is not agreed to.
Minority leader Mitch McConnell, who was a big supporter of the bill, ended up voting no,
as did Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, who changed his vote as part of a procedural move
that will allow him to raise the measure again.
The legislation would have given the president a new power to shut down the border when
crossings pass a certain limit, while also speeding up the asylum.
review process. The bill also reserved billions of dollars for Ukraine and Israel, as well as humanitarian
aid to Ukraine, Gaza, and the West Bank. Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley came in second
place in the Nevada primary despite the fact that no other major challengers were on the ballot.
Daily Wire's senior editor, Cabot Phillips, has more. Voters taking part in Silver State primary had
the option to reject all the candidates on the ballot, and the majority of them did. Over 60% of voters
selected the quote, none of these candidates option, instead of Haley and the others listed.
Despite the surprising result, Haley's campaign says they plan to continue on while looking ahead
to quote South Carolina and beyond.
GOP frontrunner Donald Trump was not on the primary ballot.
He opted instead to take part in the state's party-run caucuses on Thursday.
Even if Haley had won the primary, she would not be any closer to the nomination, though,
as the state's GOP decided that only those who take part in the caucuses can win delegates.
Currently, Trump is the only major candidate set to do so.
Republican National Committee chairwoman Rana McDaniel will reportedly be stepping down from her position later this month.
Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has the latest.
The chairwoman reportedly told former President Trump that she plans to resign after the February 24th, South Carolina primary.
McDaniel has faced mounting criticism for months over the way her party has underperformed in recent elections.
The pressure increased after the RNC posted its worst fundraising numbers in a decade.
According to Fox News, Trump has recommended McDaniel be replaced by North Carolina Republican Party
Chairman Michael Watley.
The news comes after Trump met with McDaniel on Monday at Mar-Lago and then posted on social media
after the changes might be made.
He told Fox's Maria Bartaromo something similar over the weekend.
Here's Trump.
I think she did great when she ran Michigan for me.
I think she did okay initially in the RNC.
I would say right now there'll probably be some changes made.
McDaniel issued a statement today looking to assure GOP voters, saying,
I am still hard at work as RNC chairwoman and building a machine that will elect Republicans up and down the ballot in November.
The final report on President Biden's mishandling of government documents is expected to be released soon.
Special Counsel Robert Her has been investigating Biden's handling of official documents kept from his time as vice president.
People with knowledge of the situation told the New York Times that the report will criticize Biden and his aides for Slopold.
copy record keeping and storage.
But people in the president's circle say they don't expect him to be charged with a crime
judging from the prosecutor's line of questions.
The investigation follows several instances in which classified documents were found in the
president's possession.
It also comes after President Trump was discovered to have classified documents that he kept as well.

Morning Wire. One of the illegal immigrants arrested in connection with the beating of two NYPD officers
in Times Square faced a grand jury yesterday. Here's his attorney leaving the court.
A spokesperson for district attorney Alvin Bragg said charges for 24-year-old Yo Henry Brito remain
under seal. The indictment came just hours after the 24-year-old was in New York criminal
court answering two misdemeanor charges related to shoplifting. He pleaded not guilty.
Meanwhile, four others involved in the attack were initially believed to have been arrested in Arizona.
But according to NBC, three senior law enforcement officials say those four individuals are not the suspects.
Actress and former MMA star Gina Carrano is suing Disney.
About three years ago, the media giant cut ties with the actress who starred in the Mandalorian
after what Disney called unacceptable social media posts.
And now she's suing them for wrongful termination.
Daily Wire Culture reporter Megan Basham breaks down the suit.
So Carano announced the lawsuit yesterday on X, saying it was prompted in part by an offer from Elon Musk.
The billionaire entrepreneur said late last year that X would fund the legal bill of anyone who was, quote, unfairly treated by your employer due to posting or liking something on this platform.
Now, the suit alleges that Disney wrongfully terminated the actress and caused her to lose millions of dollars in income.
It also seeks to force the entertainment giant to recast her.
Disney had fired Carrano after she posted a screenshot of a social media post created by another user.
It had warned that the political climate during COVID resembled Nazi Germany.
