Congressional testimony levels major accusations against the Biden-Harris administration about a border crisis cover-up.
We had 2,000 or more aliens sitting in between the fences asking to turn themselves in.
I was told to move them out of the side of the media.
Did the administration try to hide the number of terror-linked migrants from the public?
I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley.
It's Thursday, September 19th, and this is Morning Wire.
Kamala Harris and legacy media outlets have been using a tragic death to condemn Trump and pro-life laws.
I don't know if anyone here has heard most recently the stories out of Georgia.
Tragic story about a young woman who died.
We break down the facts and why their narrative is misleading.
And in a Daily Wire exclusive, another president of a major university gets caught up in a plagiarism scandal.
Thanks for waking up with Morning Wire.

According to damning congressional testimony from a high-ranking border official, the Biden-Harris administration has intentionally covered up the number of terror suspects crossing the border illegally.
Here with the details is Daily Wire Senior Editor Cabot Phillips, Hay Cabot. So some highly concerning testimony on the Hill yesterday. What did we hear?
So on Wednesday, the House Homeland Security Committee published the findings of a massive report titled Crisis by Design, which analyzed the Biden-Harris administration's handling of the border.
In their words, it shows a, quote, assault on the rule of law that will take decades to remedy.
That report highlights the nearly 300% increase in illegal border crossings under the administration and also refutes claims from the White House that the number of illegal crossings has gone down this year.
But the big news of the day came during testimony from Aaron Heitke, the former chief patrol agent for the San Diego sector of the border under the Biden-Harris administration.
According to Heike, he and other border officials were warned by the White House to not release any information regarding the massive increase in suspected terrorists crossing the border illegally.
Have a listen.
We had an exponential increase in significant interest aliens.
These are aliens with significant ties to terrorism.
Prior to this administration, the San Diego sector averaged 10 to 15.
SIA arrest per year. Once word was out, the border was far easier to cross. San Diego went to over
100 SIAs in 2022, while over that in 2023, and even more than that, registered this year.
These are only the ones we caught. At the time, I was told I could not release any information on this
increase in SIAs or mention any of the arrests. The administration was trying to convince the public
there was no threat at the border. According to the House Judiciary Committee under the Biden-Harris
administration, more than 375 individuals on the terror watch list have been caught trying to
enter the country illegally, and at least 100 of them were actually released and allowed to
enter the country.
And remember, those numbers only include those who have been apprehended.
There's no way of knowing how many more crossed the border unnoticed.
To that point, here's what Haikie had to say when asked what information we have on the millions
of illegal immigrants considered gotaways.
What information do we have on the millions of news?
known God of ways that have entered this country?
None.
Zero information of millions of people, some of which have found to be on the terror watch list,
we have zero information.
Correct.
But it's worth noting House Democrats called their own witnesses for the hearing,
asking them to testify about the ways illegal immigrants have enriched our culture and our country.
For example, here's one of those witnesses, Santa Cruz Sheriff Dave Hathaway.
The people coming across are coming across to work.
They're not coming as an invasion to import an army,
They have a secret army embedded in the United States to attack America and attack American values.
They're coming here to work.
That Democrat witness went on to testify that those in support of stricter border enforcement
are racist and xenophobic.
There was never a proposal to build a wall on the northern border, on the Canadian border.
So, you know, there is this kind of racist component to it that we kind of all ignore,
but it's there smoldering in the background.
Now, the hearing itself did not garner much attention from the legacy media.
and certainly not the White House or Harris campaign,
for the most part, they are doing everything possible
to divert attention away from this crisis.
Though Harris did respond to Donald Trump's plan
to implement mass deportations if elected,
here she is yesterday speaking to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.
And now they have pledged to carry out the largest deportation,
a mass deportation in American history.
Imagine what that would look like and what that would be.
That plan, however, is gaining popularity by the week.
Polling this summer from CBS showed that 62% of voters favor a, quote, new program to deport all undocumented immigrants living in the country illegally.
And while many Democrats argue such policies are racist against Hispanic Latino Americans,
the same poll found that 53% of Hispanic voters favor a mass deportation program.
The border continues to be a major concern for voters and a big problem for the vice president.

Legacy media and vice president Harris are leveraging the story of a young mother who died
after taking an abortion pill to bash pro-life legislation and blame Trump for the tragedy.
Here to discuss is Daily Wire reporter Amanda Presta Giacomo.
So Amanda Harris is really focused on abortion this cycle.
In recent days, she's honed in on this particular story out of Georgia.
First, what are the claims being made?
So Harris posted online that Amber Thurman would be alive today if Roe v. Wade had not been overturned by the Supreme Court and blamed which she has dubbed as Trump abortion bans, which do not exist, of course, because these are state-level laws.
Here's a direct quote from Harris on Thurman's death.
In more than 20 states, Trump abortion bans prevent doctors from providing basic medical care.
The implication here is clear.
Trump is responsible for Thurman's death.
But that narrative she's parroting is false.
It was actually a legal abortion that led to this woman's tragic death, as well as the death of her twin babies who are not mentioned by Harris.
So what happened in this case?
Thurman, a 28-year-old from Georgia, scheduled a surgical abortion on her twin babies at a clinic in North Carolina.
Since Georgia does not permit abortions past six weeks gestation, that's when a baby's heartbeat is detectable.
Thurman arrived late for her appointment, though, so the clinic instead,
gave her abortion medication. She was given Mifapristone and then told to take miso-prostol the next day.
This is when the medical complications happened. By the way, these are hotly contested medications.
Prolap advocates say these drugs can be unsafe and at the very least need more medical oversight.
Advocates for abortion, though, are fighting to loosen restrictions further on these pills.
In Thurman's case, the medications did kill the twin babies, but part of the remains stayed inside of her body.
after most had passed. This is a known risk and can lead to dangerous infection if not removed,
which is ultimately what happened to Thurman. The procedure to remove what are sometimes referred to as
retained products of conception is called a D and C, dilation and curatage. That procedure itself is
non-controversial and it's sometimes used to remove retained tissue after a miscarriage,
as well as some other instances, including post-abortion. Well, in this hospital,
Atlanta, where Thurman went after she vomited blood and passed out, she waited hours before
even being seen. Then, when she was finally assessed, it was recommended that Thurman get a D&C
the following day. Unfortunately, Thurman's health continued to deteriorate and she became septic.
By 2 p.m. the next day, the hospital finally got her into an operating room and performed the
DNC, but it was too late. Thurman tragically died on an operating table. It's unclear why the hospital
delayed care and the hospital has not claimed that there were any legal barriers to providing
that procedure. In fact, and this is really key here, there's not a single state, including
Georgia, where DNC procedures to remove remains of deceased babies are outlawed. Yet this story is
being used to scare voters into believing that it was this pro-life law that killed this woman.
Now, has Harris faced any scrutiny or fact-checking over this from legacy media?
No, in fact, there are countless headlines blaming pro-life legislation or more
broadly the overturning of Roe v. Wade for Thurman's death. The actual stories either omit information
or they falsely claim that Georgia outlaws D&C's post-misscarriage or post-abortion. We should note, too,
it wasn't just Harris parroting this Georgia story. Nancy Pelosi and Senator Elizabeth Warren also
posted about it, and so did a Washington Post columnist and other prominent members of the media
with large social media followings who helped make this story go mega-viral.
Well, as a former ER nurse, I can confirm.
This scenario that Amber found herself in is not really uncommon at all.
It does sound like in this case an egregious hospital error.
Amanda, thanks for reporting.
You're welcome.
Another college president has been outed as an alleged plagiarist.
Daily Wire investigative reporter Luke Roziak has found that University of Maryland
President Darrell Pines now joins the ranks of college presidents who appear to have copied
others' work.
Hey, Luke.
So what did you find here?
Hey, John.
So Pines is a rock.
scientist and a diversity activist who plagiarized 1,500 words of a 5,000-word paper,
verbatim and uncredited, from an Australian student back in 2002. Then he did it again in 2006.
The student's name is Joshua Altman, but Pines never cited him and didn't put his writing in quotes.
Of course, in Australia, they used as British spellings, like spelling color with a U.
The only thing Pines did change was those spellings. That seems to suggest this was knowing and
deliberate, but he forgot to change those spellings in two instances, including the word in
making them smoking guns. All right, so foiled by the British you there.
Yeah. My investigation found that about a third of Pine's 2002 paper actually came from a
tutorial website created by Altman in 1996. At the time, Altman was a student who had recently
been working in a restaurant, whereas Pines had a PhD from MIT and was in charge of a program
designed to get more minorities into engineering PhD programs. So a bit of a power imbalance there.
How did this come to your attention? How did you decide to look at the
University of Maryland. Well, earlier this month, Pines was in a bit of hot water for allowing a
pro-Palestine group that says it's in favor of, quote, armed struggle to book an event for
October 7th, the anniversary of Hamas' attack. Some Jewish people asked Pines, who is black,
whether he would treat an anti-black group the same way. He replied with what he said was,
quote, faculty scholarship, proving that those concerns were wrong and used it to shut down the
debate. It turned out that what he said was the research of University of Maryland experts was
actually spit out from chat GPT.
So that same pattern of sort of misrepresenting a source but with artificial intelligence
this time, what does the University of Maryland have to say about this?
On Wednesday, Pines wrote to faculty acknowledging duplicating language and referred himself
to an ethics board.
He said, quote, while I am steadfast that our results, data, and findings are sound, I acknowledge
recurrent language in the introductory sections.
While I do not believe there is merit to these claims and impartial review.
is in the best interest of the university. I have asked the Office of Research Integrity to
begin an independent review. It's a kind of an odd statement because he admits to recurrent language,
in other words, plagiarism, but said there's no merit to the claims of plagiarism. A plagiarism
expert quoted by the Baltimore banner said the evidence of plagiarism was one of the stronger
cases we've seen so far. A spokeswoman for Pines did not deny the allegation, but said it was
supposedly, quote, not on common to use, quote, recurring language in papers. There is no indication
of remorse or potential consequences. The Engineering Society IEEE, however, says that plagiarizing more than
20% of a paper is the second worst ethical infraction an academic can commit and calls for serious
sanctions, even more so when the academic refuses to apologize. So this puts Maryland between a
rock and a hard place. Either they condemn their own president or they sort of erode the entire
institution's standards by saying it's okay.
Yeah, and really the public's faith in academia as a whole, if they're on the record saying this is just standard fare.
A lot of people have been reacting to the story with amusement, because unlike some of the other academics who have been outed as plagiarists, this guy isn't just a DEI scholar, but a rocket scientist and a DEI scholar.
A lot of jokes about how that's a bit of an oxymoron.
Pines published a paper this year called stereotypes and implicit biases in engineering.
Will students need to learn to whistle Vivaldi?
But when the academics who do this kind of thing
keep coming from these DEI backgrounds,
it certainly raises questions
about whether universities are lowering standards
in order to pursue these diversity goals
and what the effect is on universities' value and reputations.
And just like in Harvard, we even have that anti-Semitism angle there.
Of course, Harvard President Claudine Gay
lost her job. We'll see what the next move is for Maryland.
Luke, thanks so much for reporting.
Anytime.
Thanks for waking up with us.
We'll be back later this afternoon with more news
you need to know.
