President Biden warned that the world stands at an inflection point in his final address to the United Nations General Assembly.
Starting point is 00:00:32 assembly. While he called for unity and reflected on global challenges, including the current conflicts abroad, he also defended his disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. Biden called it a hard choice but the right decision. Four American presidents had faced that decision, but I was determined not to leave it to the fifth. It was the decision accompanied by tragedy. 13 brave Americans lost their lives along with hundreds of Afghans and a suicide bomb. I think those lost lives, I think him every day. Biden's comments come after the House Foreign Affairs Committee released the results of its years-long investigation earlier this month. Their report found that the Biden-Harris administration made the withdrawal decision despite, quote, the conditions of the Doha agreement pleas of the Afghan
Starting point is 00:01:18 government and the objections by our NATO allies. Recent arrests of illegal immigrants on Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard have drawn national attention. Immigration officials have detained at least six illegal immigrants, including two charged with serious crimes against minors. The chair of the Nantucket GOP, Toby Brown, expressed concerns about the potential dangers posed by these illegals as conditions on the small island have, quote, gotten a little worse. Chief among those concerns is the lack of any information about these individuals' criminal histories. A concern Brown says is shared by even legal migrants to the area. The federal investigation into New York City's mayor, Eric Adams has reportedly expanded. It's now gone beyond his alleged ties to the Turkish government
Starting point is 00:02:04 to include five additional countries. Daily Wire reporter Maraida Lorty has the latest. The investigation now includes China, Qatar, Uzbekistan, South Korea, and Israel. Prosecutors have subpoenaed City Hall and Adams campaign for information related to these nations. The inquiry centers on potential illegal foreign donations and whether Adams received improper benefits such as free flight upgrades in exchange for facilitating building inspections for the Turkish consulate. This investigation follows multiple criminal probes involving Adams Associates, including recent FBI raids on high-ranking officials in his administration. Orrin Alexander Routh, son of Trump assassination suspect Ryan Routh,

Authorities discovered multiple illicit files on electronic devices during a search of his home in Greensboro, North Carolina. The investigation is reportedly linked to his father. Starting point is 00:03:19 Republican Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has decided not to call for a special legislative session to change the state's electoral vote allocation, disappointing Republican efforts to switch to a winner-take-all system before November's election. Pillon stated that he could not secure the necessary support in the legislature, particularly after GOP Senator Mike McDonald announced he would not back the change. Currently, Nebraska awards three electoral votes to the statewide winner and one vote to the winner of each congressional district. Former President Trump is promising to cut energy and electricity prices in half within a year if elected again. During a rally last night in Pennsylvania, Trump criticized President Biden's energy policies and pledged to lift the ban on natural gas exports. Trump also voiced concerns about immigration, claiming that Vice President Kamala Harris would flood Pennsylvania. with illegal migrants. He asserted that reckless migration could change the character of the state and vowed to stop all migrant flights to Pennsylvania upon taking office. The rally, part of Trump's campaign tour, emphasized key issues as early voting approaches in the battleground state.
Starting point is 00:04:42 The former president also spoke in Georgia today, delivering remarks on inflation and the tax code. We didn't have any inflation. 1.2%. We had essentially no inflation. Now you've had over the last. last four years you've had the highest inflation. I think in the history of our country, somebody said, no sir, it's only 58 years. Well, that's pretty bad, too. I think it's really in the history of our
Starting point is 00:05:07 country. California's $20 minimum wage hike has cost thousands of jobs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports California's fast food industry lost over 5,400 jobs since April when the hourly wage went into effect. This marks the worst job growth rate in the sector since 2008. neighboring states, including Nevada and Oregon, have both seen job gains. A survey by the Economic Policy Institute predicts further challenges with nearly 90% of business owners expecting to cut staff or hours into 2025. And Tropical Storm Helene developed today in the Caribbean Sea and is expected to gain strength as it approaches the Gulf Coast.
Starting point is 00:05:49 Hurricane watches have been issued for Cuba, Mexico, and parts of Florida with a possible hurricane making landfall in the U.S. on Thursday. Florida Governor Ronda Santis is warning residents that the state is going to see significant impact, and the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, Florida is urging residents to take the possibility of a storm surge seriously, posting, quote, 10 to 15 feet of surge is not survivable. States as far north as Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana could also experience rainfall associated with the storm. All right, there's your drive home updates this afternoon.
