I'm Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley with Georgia Howe.
It's Tuesday, September 10th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
The 2024 presidential race heats up as Vice President Harris and former President Trump
face off tonight in their first and possibly only debate.
Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce is here with a preview of the event.
With just eight weeks until Election Day and early voting starting soon in Key Battleground
States, this 90-minute primetime showdown at Philadelphia's National Concent
Center could be the defining moment of the campaign.
A new NPR PBS News, Marist Poll, shows Vice President Kamala Harris and former President
Donald Trump virtually tied with Harris leading by just one point among registered voters
49% to 48%.
Among definite voters, Harris holds a narrow three-point lead.
Trump has gained significant ground among independent voters, however, now leading Harris by
three points.
Pollsters say the shift among independence is a warning sign for Harris as the race heads
into its final weeks.
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo testified today before the House Oversight Subcommittee
on the coronavirus pandemic in defense of his administration's handling of the crisis.
The Republican-led subcommittee grilled the former governor about his decision to allow
COVID-positive patients back into nursing homes, a move that sparked widespread criticism.
Here's an exchange between Cuomo and Chairman Brad Winstrip.
I said, yes, and they never called me after.
You would think if they had a problem with the doctor.
directive they would have called if it was so outrageous.
You didn't even call to ensure that what you were declaring was accurate.
Yes or no?
I don't know if the Department of Health was issued.
Governor Cuomo.
Right now I'm talking to you, Governor Cuomo.
Did you even attempt to ensure that what you were declaring was accurate?
Over 15,000 nursing home residents in New York died of the virus.
Assistant Director of the Secret Service, Michael Plattie, is planning to retire within the coming days.
Plattie, who oversaw protective operations, was asked to step down by acting director Ronald Roe
as part of the ongoing investigation into the attempted assassination of former President Trump.
Russia has launched massive naval and air drills in cooperation with China.
Daily Wire Deputy Managing Editor Tim Rice has more.
The Ocean 24 exercise involves over 400 warships.
ships, submarines, and support vessels, along with more than 120 aircraft and 90,000 troops.
Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the significance of these drills, particularly in cooperation with China, amid growing geopolitical tensions.
The exercises are seen as a show of strength against what Putin describes as U.S. attempts to maintain global dominance.
The goal of the exercise is to assess the preparedness of our military forces,
make sure that they can perform in ensemble, in harmony, and to test modern state-of-the-art weapons.
Putin goes on to say the drills, which will continue through September 16th,
aim to prepare for large-scale aggression and bolster military cooperation with allied nations.
A hotel in El Paso is being sued for allegedly harboring members of Venezuelan gang Trans-Diorei,
Agua, among other violations.
El Paso's county attorney filed a lawsuit against the owner of Gateway Hotel after officers
were called at least 700 times over two years to investigate criminal activity.
Security images show people filling the hallways, persons armed with knives, fighting,
partying, prostitution, drug use, and drinking.
The county is seeking an injunction to halt all hotel operations on the grounds that it's a
public nuisance.
Morning Wire spoke with former border between.
Agent Aiman Blair, who warns that more communities will see this kind of lawlessness.
They're going to operate wherever they can get away with what they're doing.
So you're going to see that more so in major metropolitan cities, areas where it's a sanctuary
policies where, unfortunately, no matter what they do, they're going to be released back into
the community based off of their race or nationality or immigration status.
Senator Ted Cruz is urging both the DOJ and DHS to terminate a Democrat-led migrant
parole program alleging widespread fraud and links to violent crime, including sexual assault
and murder. Daily Wire reporter Amanda Prestichakamo has the details. In a letter to top officials,
Cruz and other senators are demanding the immediate end of the parolee program for Cuba, Haiti,
Nicaragua, and Venezuela, calling it ineffective and illegal. The Biden administration briefly paused
the program in July, but resumed it with minor adjustments, which Cruz argues are insufficient.
The senators warned that the program has allowed dangerous criminals into the U.S.
worsening the ongoing border crisis.
In a close call this morning, a Delta jet clipped a smaller plane on the Atlanta International Airport taxiway,
completely tearing off its tail.
Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident.
It occurred when Delta Flight 295 bound for Tokyo struck the tail of Endeavor Air Flight 5526,
which was heading to Louisiana.
airport operations remain largely unaffected, with passengers from both planes safely transported to their concourses.
And a blunder in Kamala Harris' campaign has come to light on X.
Users on X discovered that her policy agenda included language ultimately copied from President Biden's campaign website.
The mistake, which urged voters to re-elect Biden instead of Harris, was found in the site's metadata.
Though it was quickly corrected, the mistake has fueled criticism that Harris' campaign may be too closely,
aligned with Biden's.
