I'm Daily Wire, editor-in-chief John Bickley with Georgia Howe.
It's Tuesday, May 30th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
In response to the L.A. Dodgers choosing to honor the drag group Sisters of Perpetual
Indulgence at an upcoming pride event, a pitcher on the Washington Nationals is speaking out.
Trevor Williams, a Catholic, says he's, quote, deeply troubled by the California team's decision
to celebrate a group that parodies Catholicism and openly mocks the Christian faith.
In a statement on social media, William says,
said, quote, to invite a group that makes a blatant and deeply offensive mockery of my religion
and the religion of over 4 million people in L.A. County alone undermines the values of
respect and inclusivity that should be upheld by any organization.
Russia is blaming the Ukrainian government for a, quote, kamikaze drone attack on a wealthy
Moscow neighborhood this morning. Here with more is Daily Wire senior editor, Joel Needler.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called the incident a terrorist attack.
Moscow mayor Sergei Savoyanan said that the drones caused insignificant damage,
but that the incident brought the war home to the streets of Moscow.
Russia, for its part, claimed that it shot down five drones and prevented more damage from occurring.
Ukraine has not taken responsibility for the attack,
and the White House said that it does not support attacks inside Russian territory.
The incident comes just weeks after U.S. intelligence reported that Ukraine was likely responsible
for a drone attack on the Kremlin in April.
Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy is claiming victory over his debt deal negotiated with the Biden administration,
but he still has to corral the votes to get it passed.
Meanwhile, some of his GOP colleagues are raising concerns over the bill.
Daily Wire reporter Zach Jewell has more.
South Carolina Representative Nancy Mays says she will not vote in favor of the debt ceiling deal,
contending that Republicans were hoodwinked and that the agreement would normalize high spending.
Among other measures, the deal suspends the debt limit.
until 2025, caps spending growth for the next two years in areas except for defense and veterans
and expands work requirements for food stamps for those between 49 and 54 years old.
However, Mace said that this deal, quote, normalizes record high spending started during the pandemic.
And Mace isn't alone in her concerns.
Here's Representative Scott Perry, a Freedom Caucus member this afternoon.
The speaker himself has said on numerous occasions, the greatest threat to America is our debt.
And now is the time to act.
We had the time to act.
And this deal fails completely.
Authorities are looking for answers after a brawl between two large groups in Hollywood, Florida on Monday evening,
led to nine being wounded by gunfire.
Authorities don't know what sparked the confrontation, but viral videos show beachgoers fighting as tourists flee the beach.
Hollywood mayor Josh Levy condemned the mayhem.
People come to enjoy a holiday weekend.
on the beach with their families and to have people in complete reckless disregard of the safety of
the public and to have an altercation with guns in a public setting with thousands of people around
them is beyond reckless. Roman Catholics and other Christians are flocking to a monastery in Missouri
by the thousands to witness a nun's dead body that has been found seemingly incorrupt. Here with
Morris Daily Wire investigative reporter Moreda Lorty. Sister Wilhelmina Lancaster died in 29,
Yet when her body was exhumed on May 18th by the Benedictines of Mary Queen of Apostles in Gower, Missouri,
the sisters were shocked to find that her body had not decayed since her passing.
Originally, her body was going to be moved to a new shrine, but she is now placed in a glass casket for viewing.
A pair of religious studies professors gave their reaction to the alleged miracle to a local ABC affiliate.
It's one of the most rare events in the whole of the United States.
And it's not normal, even within bone bodies.
Now the masses are calling for Sister Willamina to be made into a saint.
Since the beginning of the Catholic Church, there have been more than 250 incorrupt bodies of Catholic saints.
And in an update to our story this morning, over the weekend, the city of Chicago saw at least 45 people injured in shootings and stabbings, while another 11 were killed.
Two of the violent incidents happened not far from the home of New Democratic Mayor, Bruehers.
Brandon Johnson. Johnson blamed poverty and the lack of government programs in the windy city.
Poverty didn't go away over the weekend. Like we understand that when communities have been
disinvested in and traumatized, that you're seeing the manifestation of that trial.
