A judge has blocked the construction of Trump's ballroom, the president takes another stab at limiting birthright citizenship, and another WNBA player has weighed in on the trans debate. I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Executive Editor John Bickley. It's Friday, August 7th, and this is Evening Wire. A Washington-based Court of Appeals ordered that the Trump administration halt all construction

on the $400 million ballroom construction project. The president's ambitious renovation project has been a surprisingly contested venture. The appeals court put their ruling on hold for two weeks, allowing for the Trump administration to appeal to the Supreme Court. The Trump administration considers their renovations to be critical for the safe accommodation of large formal gatherings. The appeals court argues that the president does not have the authority to make such a large-scale renovation without the approval of Congress. President Trump has taken another shot at cracking down on the abuse of birthright citizenship after the Supreme Court ruled against his previous executive order.

Daily Wire contributor Tim Pierce has more. The Supreme Court in June ruled against the president's order seeking to deny citizenship to the children born to non-citizens on American soil. But on Thursday, Trump signed two new orders addressing the issue. The first directs federal agencies to take steps aimed at preventing foreigners from exploiting birthright citizenship through birth tourism and certain surrogacy arrangements. It also seeks to exempt children born to foreign government agents and individuals classified as alien enemies from automatic citizenship in U.S. territories. The Second Order directs the State Department to deny tourist visas to foreigners who intend

to travel here to give birth for the purpose of securing American citizenship for their children. President Trump said during the signing, quote, They've taken birthright citizenship and they've made a joke out of it. The U.S. military might be close to a major breakthrough in high-energy laser weaponry. According to Fox News, the U.S. Army is close to awarding a contract for a new laser weapon system, the enduring high-energy laser. A prototype system was tested at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and Army Acquisition Executive Lieutenant General Frank Lozano said it had shown a lot of recent promise and capability.

A low-cost laser would likely be deployed first in defense. The weapon could handle incoming missile and drone attacks for much less than the current cost of interceptors. Senator Marsha Blackburn easily secured Tennessee's Republican gubernatorial nomination Thursday, prevailing over two conservative rivals, even though President Trump stayed out of the race. Meanwhile, firebrand conservative and Trump endorsed incumbent Representative Andy Ogles lost to former Tennessee Agricultural Commissioner Charlie Hatcher on Thursday. day in a closely watched primary election. The two were vying for Tennessee's recently redrawn fifth congressional district. Hatcher, who was endorsed by Republican Governor Bill Lee,

won 53 percent to 47 percent. California Governor Gavin Newsom's latest campaign talking points may be coming soon to a group chat near you. Morning Wire producer Justice Fueler has more. Ahead of 2028, Newsom allies want his supporters to pitch the governor in family chats, Facebook groups, alumni networks, or wherever a personal relationship can be leveraged for political gain. That's according to new guidance sent to volunteers this week by Newsom's Federal Political Action Committee, campaign for democracy. An email invited activists to sign up for training programs that would teach them how to make effective political pitches into places where politics isn't typically found,

which the email said is, quote, the point. The supporters themselves are in a much better position to convince someone to support the governor than the campaign is, but critics say that forcing politics into relationships will likely just harm most communal and family ties. As more reports of violence and rape are streaming out of a Spanish territory invaded last week by tens of thousands of Moroccans, roughly 1,100 of them could soon make it to mainland Spain. The reason, they've been deemed unaccompanied minors, which means authorities can't immediately deport them. Around 70,000 Moroccans, mostly adult men, invaded Thuda over the course of a few days last week. That's nearly the size of the full population of the Spanish

territory. The invasion has led to reports of violence, including murder, rape, and looting, which have largely been buried or downplayed by legacy media and the left-wing Spanish government. A local official told Spanish media, quote, we are crying out for help and assistance. The family of a former U.S. Marine is making a desperate plea to the White House after he slipped into a catatonic state while locked away in a Russian prison. 32-year-old Robert Gilman's family says he's been held and tortured in a Russian. in prison for just over four and a half years. But seven weeks ago, doctors say he fell into a disassociative stupor

in which he is largely unresponsive and unable to eat or communicate. On top of that, Gilman recently contracted pneumonia. The White House and State Department have reportedly urged Moscow to release Gilman so he can receive treatment in the U.S. The Trump administration has tapped a surprising new partner to combat illegal immigration. Reporter Breckis Stoll has a story. The administration reported the single largest month for arrests by ICE in July, but now its efforts are moving beyond the border and into community banks.

Treasury Secretary Scott Besant traveled to Arizona on Thursday to tell lenders to view credit applications under an increasingly scrutinized lens. He said, quote, This administration will not tolerate blatant abuse of our financial system, nor will it permit risks posed by the extension of financial services to illegal aliens. Bessent was careful to frame the ask as part of the banker's ordinary duties rather than an expansion into border enforcement. He said, quote, we do not ask bankers to assume the burdens of border enforcement, but we depend on banks to do what you do best. Know your customers, identify risks as they arise, and suspicious patterns before they metastasize into criminal schemes.

And another WNBA star has entered the men in women's sports debate. Golden State, Valkyrie's star Gabby Williams, became the first active WNBA player to declare she would gladly share a locker room with men identifying as women. She described the fight to allow men in women's sports as, quote, our new battle. And she said she'd welcome men to play for or against her team. There's a lot of discourse around trans athletes and what they can compete in. I would welcome a trans athlete on my team or against my team any time. I don't think it's a problem in the world. It's just another way to kind of attack trans people.

Meanwhile, over in France, a six-foot-three male is dominating women's basketball in nearly every category and calls are growing for the WNBA to pick him up. Former NBA player Inez Cantor Freedom also took to X on Friday to announce he is officially declaring himself a WNBA prospect. He said, quote, after careful consideration and reviewing the current eligibility guidelines, I can and am officially declaring my eligibility for the upcoming WNBA prospect.
