Starting point is 00:00:02 The feds begin issuing charges against violent rioters. The U.S. and China come to an agreement on trade and inflation cools. I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Executive Editor John Bickley. It's Wednesday, June 11th, and this is Evening Wire. As LA remains in a chaotic state, federal officials have begun to identify and charge rioters. Officials say ICE has arrested an illegal immigrant from Mexico for allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at law enforcement during the protests. The suspect has prior arrests for grand theft and DUI and is now charged with attempted murder.
Starting point is 00:00:40 DHS officials say they'll prosecute anyone who attacks law enforcement to the fullest extent. Meanwhile, ICE has five more Democrat-led cities on its radar. The agency is preparing to launch raids in New York, Philadelphia, Northern Virginia, Chicago, and Seattle, as nationwide unrest continues to escalate. Here's White House Press Secretary Caroline Levin. We'll never allow mob rule to prevail in America. The most basic duty of government is to preserve law and order, and this administration embraces that sacred responsibility. The mob violence is being stomped out. The criminals responsible
Starting point is 00:01:16 will be swiftly brought to justice, and the Trump administration's operations to arrest illegal aliens are continuing unabated. Late last night, California Governor Gavin Newsom lashed out at President Trump, accusing the president of abusing his power. Donald Trump's government isn't protecting our communities. They're traumatizing our communities. And that seems to be the entire point. California will keep fighting. Newsom's address came just hours after a judge denied his request to block Trump's deployment of troops to the city. But Trump says it was necessary to protect public safety and enforce the law. If we didn't get involved, right now, Los Angeles would be burning, just like it was burning a number of months ago with all the houses that were lost.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Los Angeles right now would be on fire, and we have it in great shape. I'm not playing around. Yesterday, Newsom also denied speaking with the president about the chaotic events, but Trump brought the receipts. He provided Fox with a call log showing a 16-minute conversation between him and the governor on June 7th. In a stark contrast to California, Texas Governor Greg Abbott is preemptively deploying the National Guard himself.
Starting point is 00:02:26 Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has more. Abbott says Texas will use every. tool to maintain order and won't tolerate violence as LA-like demonstrations erupt in Austin, Dallas, and Houston with protest plan for San Antonio. In Austin, 13 protesters were arrested for vandalism and attacks on four officers. In Dallas, one man was arrested for assaulting police. Houston's protest remained largely peaceful under heavy law enforcement monitoring. Abbott emphasized that while peaceful protests are legal, any violence or property damage will result in arrests and full prosecution. He's also backing up law enforcement with
Starting point is 00:03:00 legislation. Here's Abbott. In Texas, our law enforcement officers are on the front lines to keep Texas a law-in-order state. To have their backs, I am signing a law to ensure they can use every tool available to combat criminals without being targeted by rogue prosecutors. A Democrat now faces up to 17 years in prison after a clash with officials at an ICE facility. Daily Wire reporter, Amanda Press-de-Jocamo has the details. A federal grand jury, has indicted New Jersey representative La Monica McIver in connection to last month's scuffle outside of an ICE detention
Starting point is 00:03:36 facility in Newark. U.S. attorney Alina Haba announced on Tuesday that McIver faces three charges for forcibly impeding and interfering with federal law enforcement officers. However, McGiver says she's not guilty, saying, quote, the facts of this case will prove I was simply doing my job
Starting point is 00:03:53 and will expose these proceedings for what they are, a brazen attempt at political intimidation. Meanwhile, some of her Republican and colleagues, like Representative Nancy Mace, are calling from McGiver to be relieved from her committee duties. Trump has announced that he'll restore the names of Army forts changed by Joe Biden. For a little breaking news, we are also going to be restoring the names to Fort Pickett, Fort Hood, Fort Gordon, Fort Rucker, Fort Polk, Fort AP Hill, and Fort Robert E. Lee.
Starting point is 00:04:28 We won a lot of battles out of those forts. It's no time to change. Trump made the announcement at Fort Bragg in North Carolina during a celebration of the 250th birthday of the Army. Like Fort Bragg, the forts will now be linked to different soldiers with the same last names namesets as the original Confederate namesakes. The Army said it will, quote, take all necessary actions to change the names of the forts.
Starting point is 00:04:56 They'll be named after soldiers who receive the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished Service Cross, and the Silver Star. The U.S. and China have struck a deal. It comes after delegations from both countries met for negotiations in London. Daily Wire Senior Editor Cabot Phillips has the latest. The deal, which still needs final approval by President Trump and Xi Jinping, secures critical rare earth supplies from China while preserving U.S. control over key semiconductor and chemical exports. Under the agreement, U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods will average 55%, while China will drop its tariffs on American products to 10%.
Starting point is 00:05:34 President Trump called the deal a, quote, win for the U.S. for both countries, while also confirming that Chinese students will continue to study at U.S. colleges. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik said the framework solidifies the Geneva consensus reached back in May, lowering the sky-high tariffs that had fueled the trade war. Treasury Secretary Scott Besson, however, cautioned that China's struggling economy cannot be allowed to export its way back to prosperity at the expense of American workers. Inflation slowed down in a big way in May. Daily Wire Deputy Managing editor Tim Rice breaks down the numbers.
Starting point is 00:06:06 The consumer price index rose just 0.1% last month and 2.4% year over year. While cooler than expected, it remains just above the Fed's target of 2%. Food prices remain elevated, up nearly 3% from a year ago, while housing costs continue driving much of the increase. Core inflation, which strips out food and energy, also rose a slight 0.1% in May and stands at 2.8% annually, which is only slightly above target. Experts warn that press. President Trump's tariffs could start impacting consumers this summer, but have yet to affect inflation numbers. Overall, inflation seems to be staying cool. The Federal Reserve is expected to hold rates steady at its next meeting as officials monitor ongoing inflation risks.
Starting point is 00:06:51 President Trump says that Biden aides committed crimes with the former president's autopent. Here's the president speaking with the New York Post's Miranda Devine. The people who ran this country were radical left lunatics. Then they realized they had somebody that didn't know what he was doing. They could do anything they wanted because the auto pen was the power. I think that people took over the auto pen. They got things signed that shouldn't have been signed. President Biden signed 162 executive actions while in office
Starting point is 00:07:21 and more than 4,200 pardons or commutations, including 1,500 commutations signed in a single day and several preemptive pardons for key political allies and members of his own family. Last week, the Department of Justice launched an investigation into the matter. Biden claimed in an official statement that he made the decision about the pardon's executive orders, legislation, and proclamations, and that any claim to the contrary was ridiculous and false. The feud between Elon Musk and Donald Trump may be coming to an end.
Starting point is 00:07:53 After a very public breakup last week and attempts at mediation by allies of both men, both billionaires have hinted at a desire for a detente. On Wednesday, Musk posted on X that he went, too far was some of his rhetoric condemning the president. Musk also made several statements voicing his support for the administration's ongoing efforts to control the riots in L.A. Trump appeared open to making up with Musk. I have no hard feelings. I was really surprised that that happened. He went after a bill. That's phenomenal. It's the best thing we've ever signed in this country. And I haven't thought
Starting point is 00:08:30 too much about it. him. The verdict in Harvey Weinstein's retrial is in. The media mogul was found guilty on one count of criminal sexual assault in a New York courtroom. The jury convicted the 73-year-old of forcing a sex act in 2006 while acquitting him on a second charge. Deliberations are continuing on a third rape count. Weinstein had pleaded not guilty, maintaining that encounters were consensual. His defense accused prosecutors of targeting him as a symbol of the Me Too movement. Weinstein faces up to 25 years in prison for each first-degree charge. And Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson has died. He was 82.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Wilson was a founding member of the group and was the creative force behind their iconic California sound. Wilson wrote and produced hits like Surf in USA, California Girls, and Good Vibrations, helping define American pop music in the 1960s. His landmark 1966 album Pet Sounds is still celebrated as one of the greatest albums ever recorded. All right, there's your drive home updates this afternoon.
