I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley. It's Monday, November 13th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update. Five U.S. soldiers were killed over the weekend in a helicopter crash over the Mediterranean Sea between Cyprus and Lebanon. The Pentagon says the men were killed during a, quote, routine air refueling mission when their MH-60 helicopter went down. The soldiers were attached to the U.S. Army's 160th Special Operation Aviation Regiment, That unit is often used for insertion and extraction. The U.S. military has sent several commando teams to Cyprus in preparation for hostage rescue. Republican Senator Tim Scott suspended his campaign on Sunday after failing to gain traction in the national polls.

The South Carolina Senator made the announcement on The Fox Show Sunday Night in America during an interview with Trey Gowdy. I love America more today than I did on May 22nd. But when I go back to Iowa, it will not be as a presidential candidate. I am suspending my campaign. I think the voters, who are the most remarkable people on the planet, have been really clear that they're telling me not now, Tim. Iceland has declared a state of emergency and ordered thousands of people to evacuate their homes after a series of earthquakes amid an impending volcanic eruption.

Here's Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce with more. residents of the town of Grindavik were ordered to leave the area as Icelandic officials warned of a likely eruption on or near the Reykjanez Peninsula. In the last few weeks, the region has experienced more than 20,000 tremors around the Fagradalch Fiatch volcano. For the first time in six years, Chinese leader Xi Jinping will visit the U.S. and he'll meet with President Biden for the Asia-Pacific Economic Conference. More than 20,000 business leaders and diplomats from 21 countries are expected to meet at the conference. which is being held in San Francisco. To prepare for the summit, California Governor Gavin Newsom

had the city's homeless population moved and the streets power washed. That's according to local station KTVU. The overhaul of the city includes new paving on major roadways, extra security on the public transit system, and decorative landscaping and crosswalks. Here's Governor Newsom. I know folks say, oh, they're just cleaning up this place

because all those fancy leaders are coming into town. That's true because it's true. But it's also true for months and months and months prior to APEC. We've been having different conversations. A massive fire in Los Angeles has forced the closure of a critical bridge on interstate 10, a highway that services more than 300,000 vehicles a day. Governor Newsom declared a state of emergency, and Mayor Karen Bass says the roadway will be closed indefinitely.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the Santa Monica observer said, quote, the fire started at a homeless encampment. It quickly engulfed two storage facilities located under the bridge and several cars were also burned. Everything you can imagine was stored on there. Car parts, automobiles, pallets, shipping containers. The homeless people living under the bridge were relocated. A joint investigation by the Washington Post and Germany's Der Spiegel

concluded that a decorated Ukrainian special forces colonel helped orchestrate the bombing of the Nord Stream Natural Gas Pipelines in September 2020. The joint report claims that Colonel Roman Chervinsky helped coordinate the logistics of the plot, though he did not plan it himself. The investigation cites several anonymous sources with knowledge of the operation, including officials in Ukraine. Chavinsky's attorneys say the colonel denies any role in the sabotage operation. The damage to the gas pipeline between Russia and Germany sparked a surge in energy prices
