Starting point is 00:00:02 I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley. It's Monday, October 16th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update. The House of Representatives is expected to vote on House Speaker tomorrow, and it looks as if the GOP is finally coalescing around current House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan. Jordan needed 217 votes to secure the speakership, and he earned the endorsement from several Republican holdouts Monday morning. Here's Jordan addressing the upcoming vote Monday morning. real good about the momentum we have and I think we're real close. So the boat's going to be tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:00:37 It's not about pressure on anybody, just about we've got to have a speaker. You can't open the house and do the work of the American people and help our dearest and closest friend Israel if you don't have a speaker. So we get the speaker, we get the house open and we get to work on the resolution and supplemental for Israel, and we get back to work for the American people. The federal judge overseeing the federal election interference case against Donald Trump issued a partial gag order against the former president today. Here with more is Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce. The order forbids Trump from saying anything disparaging about potential witnesses or the prosecutors. U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkin said she would not restrict Trump's statements
Starting point is 00:01:18 regarding Washington, D.C., or his general criticisms of the government and DOJ. Chutkin also imposed a restriction on all parties involved in the case, banning them from making any statements that target the special counsel, his staff, as well as the court staff or personnel. Chudkin's ruling also allows for Trump to make statements about political rival Mike Pence, just not his role in the case. Trump was not president at the hearing this morning. The trial is scheduled for March 24. A representative of the Vatican, Cardinal Pierre Batista Pizabala,
Starting point is 00:01:48 the Latin patriarch of Jerusalem, offered to sacrifice himself in exchange for children being held captive by Hamas terrorists. Pizza Bala made the courageous offering on Monday. It's unclear if the terrorist organization will accept the exchange. The U.S. government has reportedly selected roughly 2,000 troops from across the U.S. military to prepare to potentially deploy to Israel for non-combatant support. The troops would potentially help with humanitarian aid and advising. No infantrymen have been tabbed for deployment.
Starting point is 00:02:19 Meanwhile, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen sat down for an extensive interview with Sky News on a range of topics, including whether or not the U.S. will be able to handle supporting wars in both Ukraine and Israel. to her answer. America can certainly afford to stand with Israel and to support Israel's military needs. And we also can and must support Ukraine in its struggle against Russia. She also addressed the state of the American economy. The American economy is doing extremely well. Inflation has been high and it's been a concern to households. It's come down considerably. At the same time, we have about the strongest labor market we've seen in 50 years with 3.8% unemployment. And at the same time, America, the Biden administration, has passed legislation that is strengthening
Starting point is 00:03:22 our economy in the years to come for the medium term. The Republican National Committee announced Monday that its third presidential primary debate on November 8th will be hosted by NBC. Actress Suzanne Summers, known for her role as Chrissy Snow on the show Three's Company has died. She was 76. Her family said in a statement Sunday that Summers had battled breast cancer for over 23 years. Her husband, Alan Hamill, her son Bruce, and other immediate family were with her in Palm Springs, California. According to the statement, the family had gathered to celebrate her birthday today, but instead, we'll celebrate her extraordinary life. Back in July, Summers shared on Instagram that her breast cancer had returned.
Starting point is 00:04:07 A Georgia man was shocked after he was given a speeding ticket demanding he pay $1.4 million. Or to be exact, $1,481. Meanwhile, city officials say the figure was just a placeholder, not his actual fine. As Connor Cato tells W-S-A-V-T-V, he received the citation for allegedly driving 90 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone. Here's how Cato described his call with the court where he inquired about his ticket. The lady told me on the phone, I called him this, sir, and I told her the amount it was. And she said, no, sir, that's the correct amount. You either pay the $1.4 million or appear in court on December the 21st at 1.30 p.m.
Starting point is 00:04:55 Officials in Savannah say drivers caught cruising 35 miles per hour over the speed limit must appear, where a judge will decide the actual fine. The figure that Cato received was automatically generated by e-citation software used by the local recorders court. The actual fine cannot exceed $1,000 in addition to state-mandated costs.
