After threatening a major military escalation against Iran following a series of surprise attacks, President Trump ordered a pause to the fighting, hinting at a diplomatic breakthrough. Wired-in host, Cabot Phillips is here to break down the latest from Iran and how it's all impacting midterms here at home. So, Cabot, yet another round of engagements and then disengagement in this conflict. This is hanging over basically everything at this point, including the elections. So get us up to

speed here. Yeah, at the end of last week, following those surprise attacks on U.S. bases in Jordan, President Trump was seemingly gearing up to renew his all-out war on the regime. Untold numbers of ships and planes had arrived in the Middle East, and he was reportedly eyeing strikes on Iranian power plants and other energy infrastructure. Again, that would have been a major escalation. Late Saturday night, he posted on Truth Social that while the U.S. was, quote, locked and loaded, quote, we have just been asked by Iran and other Middle Eastern countries to hold off on any attack and that the parameters of a deal have been agreed to. According to Trump, that deal would include the opening of the Strait of Hormuz

and also quote an end to Iran's nuclear threat. He concluded by saying that he had canceled the attack, subject to, quote, being able to rapidly make a deal, great work everyone. So he was very happy. Now, if it feels like we've heard that statement before, it's because we have. Right. It's hard for anyone to dispute that a pattern has developed throughout this conflict. There's a loose deal in place.

Iran violates the deal. Fighting ensues. Trump threatens enormous attack and then calls them off saying that a deal is near. And then it all starts over again. So it does appear that the two sides in this case are still talking. But most folks in Washington just are not holding their breath, waiting for a permanent peace deal to be announced anytime soon. Right. We've all seen this dance before.

So in terms of what led up to this. newest pause. What are the factors here? Yeah, as I often say, when discussing this topic, it depends, again, who you ask. In recent weeks, there have been more and more reports from the Pentagon that U.S. Air Defense stockpiles are rapidly depleting and that we could be stalling because we need more time to replenish them. For his part, President Trump has denied those reports, saying inventories are, quote, in very good shape. And there are former Pentagon officials who I've talked to that said that this also could be a strategic play to drum up more defense spending in Congress. But there is no doubt that the sophisticated Patriot and Thad missiles,

those are the primary means of defending our bases and other assets in the region, are being used fast. And they take quite a bit of time and also a lot of money to manufacture. So that definitely could be playing into President Trump's calculus. From a strategic standpoint, there has also been mounting pressure from a lot of our allies throughout the Middle East to de-escalate this conflict and avoid any further fighting. Now, speaking of our allies, which ones are you referring to and what kind of pressure are they exerting? Well, leading the charge for diplomacy last week were the Saudis. They have become a very close ally during this conflict. For example, the two countries have signed off on a nuclear deal that allow for civilian power plants in the Gulf

state. The U.S. and Saudis have also carried out joint air strikes on Iranian-backed militias in Iraq. But over the last week, the country's leaders have reportedly made clear to President Trump that they fear escalating strikes will further destabilize the region and hamper the oil industry, among other things, which we all know is crucial to the Saudi economy. Over the weekend, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, reportedly phoned President Trump directly and urged him to de-escalate and seek a diplomatic off-ramp. And he was not the only one with that message. We saw a similar thing from leaders of Turkey, the UAE, Qatar, Pakistan, all pushing the White

House to go the diplomatic route. President Trump seemingly agreed with them, but again, as the world has seen this year, it's hard to trust the word of a fanatical theocratic regime. Now, the backdrop to all this, of course, is the midterms coming up? What sort of effect are we seeing at this point on the midterms for particularly Republicans? Well, it's becoming increasingly clear. This war is a political albatross for Republicans, and President Trump in particular. A poll this weekend from the Associated Press, for example, found that just two and ten Americans want the fighting to continue, and just one in three Americans say it's been worth the economic costs here at home.

Now, again, folks don't always trust the polling, but those sort of numbers are mirrored across, Fox, CNN, CBS, the NPR polls also showed similar numbers. So there does seem to be a pretty broad consensus on that front. And more broadly, President Trump's approval rating now sits in the mid to high 30s, again, across virtually every poll. Many people are highly skeptical of polling for good reason, but in modern history, there simply are not examples of the party in power holding onto their majority with a approval rating for the president around those levels. If there is any reason for optimism on the right, though, it's the Democrats have yet to offer a clear foreign policy alternative, and that is, again, evident in the data.

In two separate polls from CBS and CNBC, voters were asked which party they trusted more to handle Iran. The GOP led in both. And nationally, Democrats have a favorability rating that is 17 points underwater. That, again, makes them even less popular than Republicans right now. So there's no doubt voters are not thrilled with President Trump right now in his handling of this conflict, but there's still a real chance that Americans are even more pessimistic about the alternative. Especially with the far-left Democrats that have taken a lot of these nominations. Kevin, thanks so much for reporting. Absolutely.

A shooting broke out in an in-and-out in Twin Falls, Idaho over the weekend, leaving several dead and many others wounded. Meanwhile, we've now learned more key details in the Nancy Guthrie case. Here with the details is Lyndon Blake, host of that so criminal. So Lyndon, a seemingly very random place for a shooting of this nature. Let's talk about the Idaho case first. What happened at that in and out over the weekend? Yeah, good morning, guys.

Just a tragic situation over the weekend in Twin Falls, Idaho. At least three people are dead. There's more injured. And a shooting that happens at an in-and-out burger joint Saturday afternoon. We do know that the suspect is deceased. We know that an employee was one of the ones killed in this ambush attack. In-and-out president, Lindsay Snyder, paid tribute to that worker saying that that woman died taking care of customers and doing her job.

Snyder said she was taking care of our most important asset, our customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn't value the lives of others or his own. Snyder added that he shot both on our property and off and ended his life shortly after took the precious lives of our associate and customers, innocent people who never saw it coming. Now, the California-based chain had just opened this location in Twin Falls, July 24th. So this literally happened the first week this restaurant was open. What are witnesses saying? Yeah, this happened at 2.30 in the afternoon, so a busy part of the day and a busy part of town.

One witness told NBC that she was circling around in and out, she was going to the drive-through, when she saw people running across the road, people were running out, they were crying, screaming. The witness said it was very scary and terrifying. After this, a nearby Chick-fil-A decided to close the rest of the day on Saturday just as a precaution because that entire area was obviously very shaken up by this incident. So frightening. And we've also learned that an armed civilian helped slow the shooter and he's being heavily praised for that heroism. Do we know anything concrete yet about the suspect, the shooter? The shooter has been identified as a 24-year-old man. I'm sure more information about the motive will be made public in the coming days. But again, we'll start hearing from people that knew the shooter more than likely,

family members and more witnesses that could help maybe paint a picture of what took place and why. But again, right now, just another act of senseless violence in Idaho. Now, we've also hit a very grim milestone in the Nancy Getson, Guthrie investigation over the weekend, the Sheriff's Department in Pima County, Arizona, released some of those early ransom notes. What did they say? At the six-month mark, Pima County Sheriff's Investigators did release the full context of those two ransom notes that were sent to local news stations in the first week of Nancy Guthrie's disappearance, were looking at one of the ransom notes that was sent to K-O-L-D. And this one was addressed, the first ransom note,

just to Savannah. This ransom note said, we, have your mother, Nancy. She is safe but scared. Nancy will be held for ransom and once payment is received, she will be released unharmed. Then it went on to say that they would be holding Nancy for a maximum of seven days and that they want Bitcoin and the amount of $4 million. Then the note goes on to say a payment is not received. The ransom will increase to $6 million in the note listed that if payment was not received by that final deadline, quote, she will be killed. Now on that second note sent on February six, it was addressed to the Guthrie family, and this is where things get grim. The note said, we do not fully grasp the seriousness of her physical condition.

We never intended to hurt her. That was not our intention. She perished shortly after she was taken. We believe it was heart-related. She is buried in nature now. Savannah said back in March that she believes these notes to be real. But it seems like releasing the ransom notes and again asking people to go back and review that footage and see if they noticed anyone in their life that was acting differently around the time

of this investigation when it started to call 1-800, call FBI. That reward is still over a million dollars. And Pima County is hoping that this will generate new leads releasing this information. return to their home country after storming the shores of Spanish Territory, Thayuta. The Spanish government is now facing intense backlash from its citizens over its policies that may have led to the invasion. Joining us now is Mike Gonzalez Heritage Foundation's senior fellow, Mike. Welcome to the show. Hi, thanks all for having me on. So as we reported on Friday, Moroccan migrants poured into Spain in mass numbers tens of thousands, and they're supposedly being returned now.

What is the latest on that situation? Well, the latest is that a lot of them have been expelled from the enclave of Theuta. About 16 people have been killed, I've heard. This is going to have incredible repercussions politically on the mainland. The Sanchez government, which was already on thin ice, because his government, his brother has been indicted on corruption. His wife has had her passport taken away. He has taken a very anti-U.S. stance. He's taken a very anti-Israel stance and a pro-Palestinian stance, which is now coming back to bite him.

because now he's left without any allies. He gave amnesty to about a million people about six, six, seven months ago, and this is one of the precipitate factors in this invasion of the city of Theta, which has been Iberian since the 1400s. Right, so Spanish policy is a lot of the focus here. One of the major shifts, as I understand it,

is that if you travel by water into Spanish territory, you cannot be immediately expelled. Yet they are being removed pretty rapidly if these reports are correct. So how are they going about that? Well, the Spanish police can be tough. The Spanish police came in finally after holding back for a little bit

and I've seen the footage of them going because these people that came in not only came in to occupy the streets, they were occupying homes. They were occupying stores. They were occupying shops and they're being pulled out with not a lot of, you know, the way they should be pulled out,

they're invaders, and they're being kicked out on ceremoniously, which they should be. I saw a civilian stabbed in the neck by one of the marauding invaders. I can imagine what it's like. I've also seen reports that some of these invaders, these migrants, claim that they saw posts on social media that told them that Spain is opening its borders to them. What have you seen in terms of what actually sparked this particular mass migration?

My Spanish sources, I had really good connections there, and they tell me it was all organized online. It's all social media, especially Facebook. And this has to have been guided by the Kingdom of Morocco. The King of Morocco gave the green light. I saw Moroccan soldiers arriving with trucks filled with invaders just outside the city. They opened the trucks, the soldiers, the Moroccan soldiers. just opened the trucks and the people streamed in. We're in a rather tough situation ourselves, America, because Spain is a treaty ally of the United States, Spanish, and NATO, and yet we are

good friends with the government of Morocco. You say it's very clear that the Moroccan government was involved in this. What would be their motivation? Well, the Moroccan government has had a longstanding amnesty with Spain. The Moroccan government has a claim to the Western Sahara, which is a region to its south that used to be held by Spain. The Moroccan government also has never been okay with the fact that these two Spanish cities have been Spanish cities. All right. So what you're saying here is it looks like the Moroccan government encouraged this mass influx of migrants, maybe to test the Spanish government to see if they would actually expel them. Is that the idea maybe this is an attempt to take over

this territory? Speculation on my part. That should be very clear. But yes, it's very clear that this either testing a very weak leftist government with people who will probably be okay without Amalia being taken by Morocco. But Morocco would not stop there. Morocco would then have designs from the Canary Islands. Morocco, when it has maps, it includes the Canary Islands as part of Morocco.

So Morocco has a very expansive view of what is Morocco. and the Pedro Sanchez government is a very weak government. This is a very bad combination. You're like you said already a very shaky government, even more shaken after this, very disturbing sequence of events. Thank you so much for joining us. Thank you. Thanks for having me.
