Starting point is 00:00:31 And this is your Morning Wire afternoon. update. A manhunt is underway in New York City after United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot and killed outside his hotel. Surveillance footage shows the suspect firing several rounds from a handgun with a silencer before riding off on an e-bike into Central Park. The motive remains unclear, but officials say the shooting was not random and the attack appears to have been premeditated. Here's NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch at a press conference this morning. It appears a suspect was lying in wait for several minutes. And as the victim was walking to the conference hotel,
Starting point is 00:01:10 the suspect approached from behind and fired several rounds, striking the victim at least once in the back and at least once in the right calf. A $10,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to an arrest. Bands on transgender procedures on children appear likely to prevail. The Supreme Court heard a challenge to the Tennessee law banning these medical interventions this morning. Daily Wire Deputy Managing editor Tim Rice has the latest.
Starting point is 00:01:39 The three left-wing justices suggested that these laws discriminate against transgender children and should be struck down. Justice Katanji Brown-Jackson even went so far as to compare the laws to bans on interracial marriage. The law here operates in the same way. There, the question of can you marry this other person depended upon what your race was. You could marry the other person if it was the same, consistent with. with your race, you couldn't if you couldn't.
Starting point is 00:02:06 I take your law to be doing basically the same thing. You can get these blockers if doing so is consistent with your sex, but not if it's inconsistent. So how are they different? Meanwhile, Chief Justice John Roberts and the other conservatives suggested that the evolving debate over puberty blockers and sex hormones should be left to elected representatives, not the court. Justice Samuel Alito pushed back on the ACLU's assertions that transgender procedure. prevent children from committing suicide. I don't regard the cast review as necessarily as a Bible or as something that's true in every respect.
Starting point is 00:02:43 But on page 195 of the cast report, it says there is no evidence that gender affirmative treatments reduce suicide. The case involves laws in Tennessee as well as 23 other states that restrict these so-called treatments. Daily Wire host Matt Walsh gave remarks outside. the court today during opening arguments, Walsh says three truths have led to this point. Biology is a fact that we have a duty to protect our children, that the trans agenda denies the fact of biology. It is a distinct threat to our children. We affirm these truths. We call the Supreme Court to affirm them too. A House committee investigating the pandemic released a report this week, summarizing its two-year
Starting point is 00:03:29 investigation and offering recommendations for future responses. DailyWire Senior Editor Ash Short has more. The more than 500-page document concludes that the virus likely emerged from a lab in Wuhan, China, but also claims that the origins remain unclear. The report criticizes the World Health Organization's handling of the pandemic and the lack of transparency from China while applauding early travel restrictions and operation warp speed. It also calls for improvements to the strategic national stockpile and stronger domestic manufacturing of essential. supplies. The report will be reviewed before being submitted to Congress.

House GOP members have called for an investigation into FEMA over allegations that relief workers intentionally bypassed Trump supporters. Daily Wire reporter Amanda Presti Giacomo has the latest. Committee chairs Sam Graves and Scott Perry have asked Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph Koufari to probe claims about the now-fired FEMA supervisor Marnie Washington instructing workers to avoid homes displaying Trump-related signs in Florida. The lawmakers say these practices may have been part of a broader policy, potentially being practiced in other states that could have left victims unaware of available assistance. FEMA director, Deanne Criswell, has denied any proactive policies, but she has agreed to request an independent investigation.
Starting point is 00:05:09 South Korea's opposition party has moved to impeach President Yun Suk Yol after he declared martial law. Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has the details. The motion could be voted on as early as Friday and requires a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly to pass. It would then go to South Korea's constitutional court for approval. President Yun lifted his martial law order after, protests and a parliamentary vote. The president faces growing pressure from opposition lawmakers to resign over the order. However, some experts say Yun's ouster could open the door to trouble from the country's adversaries. Here's what Gatestone Institute's senior fellow Gordon Chang
Starting point is 00:05:44 told Fox News. The opposition, the progressives, the leftists, really have been sympathizing with North Korea. They've been attacking South Korea's democracy, but that was not a reason to declare martial law, and it was declared really poorly. The unions are very much controlled by leftists, which means they're controlled by North Korea. They can do a lot of disruption in South Korea and society as they've done in the past. And now they've got a reason to do so. And Fannie Willis hits yet another major setback. She's been ordered to hand over all of her communication with Jack Smith and the J6 committee. The Fulton County DA is leading a RICO case against Trump and several associates for alleged election interference, but her case is now on pause. Fulton County's
Starting point is 00:06:29 Superior Court says Willis violated Georgia's Open Records Act when she failed to respond to a request filed by Judicial Watch. The judge gave Willis five business days to produce the material. Those are your drive home updates this afternoon. To learn more about these stories, go to dailywire.com.
