I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley.
It's Monday, October 31st.
And this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
The Supreme Court heard oral arguments on Monday in two cases that could bar the use of race-based
admissions at the college level and affirmative action in other areas of society.
Defendants for the University of North Carolina claim that such practices are necessary to ensure a diverse student body,
while opponents say that it promotes racial discrimination.
Former President Barack Obama has been hitting the campaign trail before midterms,
and will campaign in Nevada on Tuesday, Arizona on Wednesday, and Pennsylvania with President Biden over the weekend.
But these days, just about every Republican politician seems obsessed with two things.
Owning the libs. Oh, man, we're going to own the libs, and getting Donald Trump's approval.
That seems to be their agenda.
On Monday, the Biden administration accused the state of Arizona.
Arizona of violating federal law after the state's Republican governor refused to stop construction
of a 10-mile makeshift fence along the southern border. The fence in question is constructed from
shipping containers and barbed wire. Arizona's actions come after the federal government
failed to complete gaps in the border wall in certain areas. The Texas Department of Public Safety
arrested 60 illegal immigrants for criminal trespassing after they forced their way under the border
fence put up by the Texas National Guard at the direction of Governor Greg Abbott. The group
crossed the border illegally and then trespassed onto the land of a local rancher, which allowed
them to be arrested under state law. The 60 arrested were part of a larger group of 400 who crossed
the border illegally near Normandy, Texas over the weekend. A new report indicates that the number of
legal abortions fell by 6% in the wake of the Supreme Court's overruling of Roe v. Wade. Due to new
state's laws triggered by the ruling, 66 clinics have stopped providing the service, resulting in an
estimated 10,000 fewer abortions nationwide so far.
The new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, accused the company of deliberately hiding evidence
from the court during his former legal battle with the company, accusing the social media
giant of using fake metrics to boost its monetary value.
Musk shared alleged internal comments from Twitter's head of integrity, admitting that the
company was committing fraud.
Four Michigan State University football players were suspended Monday after being accused of
attacking two University of Michigan players while heading back to their locker rooms after the
game Saturday. Michigan's athletic director slammed the incident in a press conference, and the
victims are reportedly prepared to bring charges against the alleged attackers.
Grab a player and do what they did. It's completely and utterly unacceptable. We will let the Big Ten
and law enforcement handle it, but this is not what a rivalry should be about.
In Brazil, far-left former president Luis Inacio Lula de Silva, known as Lula, defeated incumbent president Jair-Bolsonaro in a tightly contested election on Sunday night and will be the next president of Brazil.
With 99% of the vote in, the self-described socialist defeated the populist conservative Bolsonaro by a margin of 50.9 to 49.1.
The Federal Reserve is expected to once again raise interest rates this week as part of its strategy to combat decades-high inflation.
And the Powerball Jackpot lottery prize rose to more than $1 billion on Monday for the second time ever.
The winning Powerball numbers will be announced tonight.
Those are your drive home updates this afternoon.
