Authorities say that at least 88 people in Florida have lost their lives due to Hurricane Ian. Over 613,000 houses in the state still do not have electricity as of Monday. Florida Congressman Byron Donalds described the devastation on Fox News. We're devastated here. Fort Myers Beach, which is one of the large tourist destinations in the has just been obliterated. It looks like they fought a war on Fort Myers Beach.
Starting point is 00:00:39 President Joe Biden is traveling to Puerto Rico today to survey the harm done by the hurricane and is set to make an official visit to Florida on Wednesday. Oil prices rose more than $4 a barrel on Monday as OPEC announced a plan to cut oil production by a million barrels a day. This would be the largest reduction since the start of the COVID pandemic. Brazil's president, Jaya Bolsonaro, had an unexpectedly strong showing in his election Sunday, clinching his spot for a runoff, which will be held on October 30th. Bolsonaro's right-wing allies won 13 of the 27 seats up in the Senate.

Sweden sent a dive team and the Coast Guard on Monday to investigate the cause of the Nordstream pipeline explosions. The Danish Energy Agency says both Nord Stream 1 and 2 have stopped leaking. Former CIA director David Petraeus, the general who led the U.S. forces in Iraq in 2007 and eight, said this week that Russia cannot win its war against Ukraine. And if Russian president Vladimir Putin uses tactical nuclear weapons, the U.S. will lead NATO in an unprecedented attack against Russia. He is losing. In other words, Ukraine has recruited, trained equipment. organized and employed forces incomparably better than Russia has. Hillary Clinton might be gearing up to run for the nation's highest office one more time in 2024 after her latest criticism of President Joe Biden. Ocean shippers are revealing another sign that the global economy is in dire straits,
Starting point is 00:02:31 as U.S. shippers are seeing a 20% drop in ocean freight orders for things such as machinery, household products, industrial products, and some apparel. According to CNBC, freight prices on one key route from Asia to the West Coast are now down more than 80% from last year.
