I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley.
It's Friday, February 2nd, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
The European Union has agreed to a 50 billion euro or almost $54 billion fund for Ukraine
to be used in their war with Russia.
The fund consists of loans and grants that will be handed out over the next four years.
The unanimous show of support for Ukraine comes after Hungary's Victor Orban was convinced to join
his fellow European nations.
Ukraine says the EU funds are critical to their economy, especially since U.S. aid is
being debated in Congress.
Orban asked for an additional review of how the money is being spent to safeguard against corruption.
Details of the Senate border bill have yet to be released, but can't.
Kansas Senator Roger Marshall says Republicans seem torn on whether or not to support the bill.
He believes a majority of the border problem could be solved if President Biden reinstated the
remain in Mexico policy and fixed the asylum and parole issues.
He told Morning Wire that the president could fix the border with a stroke of his pen.
There's policies in place, laws in place.
If he wanted to, he could secure the border.
I've yet to hear out of his lips say, I want to secure the border.
He has said he wants to grease the immigration system.
So I'm a little bit leery of the person that we are trying to deal with right now.
We have to fix asylum and we have to fix parole.
Barack Obama paroled 5,000 people per year.
5,000.
Joe Biden is prolling 700,000 people per year.
He's breaking the law.
The law clearly says for parole,
they're supposed to be decided on an individual case-by-case basis.
He's doing it 10,000 people at a time.
But if we could fix parole, if we could fix asylum,
maybe we fix 70% of the problem?
The U.S. House overwhelmingly passed a bill calling for the deportation of illegal immigrants
who are caught driving while intoxicated.
The vote was 270 to 150, with 59 Democrats joining the Republican majority to oust the drunk drivers.
150 Democrats voted against the bill, including minority leader Hakeem Jeffries.
Alabama Congressman Barry Moore introduced the bill after two of his constituencies,
were killed by an illegal immigrant in a car accident.
We had a family in my hometown that lost the son and daughter-in-law to an illegal who was driving under the influence.
And I think it had already been deported a couple of times.
But when they don't have a driver's license, they don't have car insurance, there's no accountability in the process.
And they just slap them on the wrist and send them on their way.
And so this drunk driver who was here illegally killed a young couple.
President Biden will visit East Palestine, Ohio this month,
nearly a year after the devastating train derailment in the small Ohio town.
Biden was widely criticized for not visiting the disaster site,
especially because former president Trump did make a visit in the days following the Norfolk Southern train derailment,
which released toxic chemicals into the environment.
East Palestinian resident Russell Murphy says Biden is too late.
Trump, he was here.
Matter of fact, he brought water, he brought laundry detergent,
We're actually still using some of it.
You know, he stepped up.
Biden, it's just going to be nothing but for his party.
It's going to be photo ops.
It's going to clog the town with traffic and the mess that's going to go with it.
Even as Mayor Trent said, that there's just no, there's nothing that he can come here and do now.
He missed it.
Meanwhile, Norfolk Southern has agreed to be the first Class 1 train operator to participate in a new federal system
which allows employees to report safety problems without fear of reprisal.
All of this is happening as an investor group has made a $1 billion investment in Norfolk Southern and is trying to oust the company's CEO.
Elon Musk is considering reincorporating Tesla in Texas where the company is headquartered.
Currently, Tesla is incorporated in Delaware where a judge this week rejected Musk's $56 billion compensation package saying he hadn't properly justified the pay.
Asked by Musk on X whether the EV company should reincorporate in Texas,
87% voted Tesla should make the move.
Now the Tesla shareholders will weigh in.
Delaware is considered the number one state for business.
68% of Fortune 500 companies are incorporated there
due to their friendly business practices.
One billion TikTok users may remember this as
The Week the Music died as songs from Taylor Swift,
Drake, U2, Adele, and Ariana Grande have been pulled from the platform.
Universal Music Group removed the artist's songs from
TikTok after the two were unable to reach a deal on compensation.
In a statement, Universal Music Group said,
ultimately TikTok is trying to build a music-based business
without paying fair value for the music.
TikTok fired back and issued their own statement saying UMG's greed
caused them to be unable to reach a deal, which hurts their artists.
Music journalist Lars Brandl summed up the battle of the two behemoths.
The two press releases that came out were bruising,
and I don't think I've seen anything like it,
from a company in the music industry.
And the argument is essentially about money.
It's about the royalties that TikTok pays
for the use of universal music.
These arguments happen often behind closed doors,
but this argument has stepped out of those closed doors
and into the public domain.
It's spicier than any beef in hip-hop right now.
The last time a similar music dispute occurred
was in 2008 when Warner Music removed their titles from YouTube.
standoff lasted nine months. All right, those are your drive home updates this afternoon.
