I'm Daily Wire, editor-in-chief John Bickley. It's Thursday, September 7th, and this is your morning wire afternoon update.
Authorities are still searching for the convicted murderer and illegal alien Danello Cavalcante, who escaped a Pennsylvania prison last Thursday.
Cavalcante was recently spotted in a creek bed but fled into the woods several miles east of Longwood Gardens.
Thursday afternoon, helicopters and authorities were seen searching a particular section near the garden for the Brazilian National, who has been on the run for now
eight days. Officials also released security footage showing that he escaped Chester County
prison by climbing over a wall. Prison officials say they're working with security consultant
companies to make sure escapes like this don't happen in the future. The yards are blocked
wall with an exterior fence with an open top. Along that line are razor wires or someone physically
can't climb the fence. Or over there's smaller mesh fence on the second half so the fence
is probably 10 to 15 feet high. What the proposal is actually to cap that whole thing in basically
as a cage, so no one can physically fly out.
Republican Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio requested unanimous consent today for consideration
of his Freedom to Breathe Act. The act would ban federal mask mandates that apply to domestic
air travel, public transit systems, or primary, secondary, and post-secondary schools.
Here's Vance from the Senate floor today.
We cannot return to the failed policies of the COVID-Pan.
I'm not mad that we screwed up. I made mistakes. Many people in this body made mistakes. What I do
think that we should avoid is repeating the mistakes in 2023. Let's learn from the mistakes that we made
instead of just doubling down on them. Let's heed the message from the American people and let's
learn the lessons of the past couple of years. Mandatory masking was a failure. It had costs for very
little benefits and we shouldn't repeat it. However, Democratic Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts,
blocked the bill from moving forward.
This bill is a little more than an attempt by Republicans to dismantle a public health infrastructure
that had to be built.
A new poll from CNN shows that all major GOP presidential primary candidates are in either
a statistical tie with President Joe Biden or beating him outright.
Within the margin of error, no clear leader, Donald Trump, 47%, Joe Biden, 46%.
They're basically an essential.
statistical tie. But what I will note was there was not a single poll conducted by CNN during the
entire 2020 cycle in which Donald Trump got a higher share of the vote than Joe Biden did. So this is a
vastly different picture from what we saw four years ago. In that poll, former United Nations ambassador
Nikki Haley fares best against Biden out of the GOP candidates, beating him 49% to 43%.
On Wednesday, a district court judge ordered the removal of floating border barriers,
in the Rio Grande. Texas Governor Greg Abbott had installed the barrier to slow down the flow of
illegal border crossers. In response to that action, the federal government sued the state. The feds
argued that the gigantic buoys blocked waterways in violation of U.S. law and were placed in the river
without permission. The judge agreed with that assessment and said that Texas officials' claims
of an invasion were irrelevant. Now Abbott has vowed to appeal and take the legal battle all the way
to the Supreme Court.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams warned during a town hall meeting on Wednesday that the city is on the verge of being destroyed.
The problem, according to the mayor, is the influx of illegal aliens from the border.
One time we were just in Venezuela.
Now we're in Ecuador.
Now we're in Russia speaking coming through Mexico.
Now we're in Western Africa.
Now we're getting people from all over the globe have made their minds up that they're going to come through the southern part of the border and coming to
New York City. And everyone is saying it's New York City's problem. And meteorologists are keeping an
eye on Hurricane Lee and the Atlantic. The storm has now strengthened to a category two and could
make landfall in the east of the U.S. as a category five sometime next week. The models right now
predicted fearing north. All right, those are your drive home updates this afternoon. To learn more
