I'm DailyWire editor-in-chief John Bickley.
It's Thursday, June 27th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
The Supreme Court has released several rulings today,
including a rejection of the nationwide settlement with opioid maker Purdue Pharma.
Daily Wire reporter Spencer Lindquist has the latest.
In a 5 to 4 decision, the court ruled that the Sackler family cannot be shielded from future legal action tied to opioid abuse.
The court found such protections violate bankruptcy laws.
The ruling also puts billions of dollars in opioid crisis relief in jeopardy.
Justices also ruled on abortion in Idaho.
In a 6 to 3 decision, the court ruled that hospitals in Idaho will be required to perform emergency abortions,
but avoided making a wider ruling on the subject due to other pending litigations.
In another decision, SCOTUS blocked a Biden-Divor.
administration rule on interstate air pollution in a five to four decision. The regulation was aimed
at curbing harmful air pollution that crosses from one state to another and contributes to smog.
An illegal immigrant in upstate New York has been arrested for the alleged abduction and rape
of a 15-year-old girl. Daily Wire senior editor Joel Needler has more.
According to court documents, the 21-year-old Turkey National threatened the girl with a metal pole
if she didn't get in his car. The man then drove the teenage girl to a secluded location and
assaulted her. The migrant who entered the country illegally faces a slew of charges, including
first-degree rape. He was caught by police last week and is expected to appear in court later this
week. Police and Democratic lawmakers upstate are being accused of covering up the incident. In a tweet,
Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin said, quote, a 15-year-old girl raped by an illegal
alien in the city of Albany and the public doesn't get notified? We're supposed to believe this
wasn't covered up by the city administration. Meanwhile, Albany's police chief
claims a suspect's immigration status was not known until after his arraignment.
A newly released projection of the 2024 presidential race presents some good news for Donald Trump
ahead of tonight's debate. Daily Wire senior editor Ash Short has the numbers.
Statistician and pollster Nate Silver released his predictions for the 2024 presidential
election yesterday. His analysis gave former president Donald Trump a 66% chance of winning the
election based on 40,000 simulations of voting tendencies. In his review of the data, Silver said,
quote, you'd expect Biden to be in deep trouble if the popular vote is roughly tied. Silver's analysis
favored Biden in the popular vote 51 to 49. And it's worth noting Silver is not a conservative.
In that same article, he said, the candidate who I honest to God think has a better chance isn't the
candidate I'd rather have win. This episode is brought to you by Black Rifle Coffee.

South Korean military officials are downplaying concerns over North Korean missile tests,
which would signal stunning new progress from the totalitarian state.
Daily Wire contributor Matthew Sanofsky has the latest.
North Korea's military launched three missiles yesterday, which they say were successful tests of multi-target technology.
That means one missile that can split off to hit multiple targets.
This sort of technology is more difficult to defend against
and would significantly raise the country's threat to the United States and its allies.
However, South Korea's joint chiefs of staff dismissed the tests as, quote,
deceptive and exaggerated.
While North Korea has come clean on recent military failures,
it does have a history of lying about weapons advancements.
Notably, North Korea uses a technology based on old Soviet missiles
and signed a defense pact with Russia just last week.
Soldiers in Bolivia attempted to take control of the nation's government yesterday.
The army's former top general Juan Jose Zuniga led troops who repeatedly slammed the presidential palace with armored vehicles.
Zuniga said he wanted to restore democracy and free the nation's political prisoners.
Tensions eased after he was arrested and Bolivia's new commanding general ordered the troops to go home.
Some people have been speculating that this was actually a self-coup.
Here's International Relations and Politics Professor Eduardo Gamara on CBS.
This is a coup that was largely orchestrated by the sitting president as a way to regain strength and to position himself well for next year's election.
But I'm sure that now in the aftermath of this, there will be claims that there were foreign powers behind the coup and that the opposition was behind the coup.
But largely it's a little bit of political theater more than anything else.
And the alleged Highland Park shooter rejected a plea deal yesterday, stunning the victim's families.
The suspect reportedly stared into the court gallery before declining a deal that the prosecutor said he'd previously agreed to.
The suspect now faces 55 charges, including seven counts of first-degree murder.
While his mother celebrated, families of the victims said the move was heartbreaking and evil.
