Starting point is 00:00:38 We discussed the rulings and what they mean. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled against President Trump's order to limit birthright citizenship. I'm Georgia Howe. John's on vacation this week. It's Wednesday, July 1st, and this is Morning Wire. The Justice Department takes on dark Marxist money in a first-of-its-kind investigation. So now the Justice Department is invested. investigating Singham and his non-profits for moving money and creating networks to sow discord in the United States America. And authorities suspect billions more in government fraud after a million Phantom ObamaCare enrollees were found on the books.

The justices handed conservatives a major win on women's sports, but dealt President Trump a major defeat on birthright citizenship. Here to break it all down is Cabot Phillips host of Wired In. So Cabot, let's first start with the birthright citizenship case. That didn't really come as a surprise, but still major blow for the president. Yeah, just to recap, this was Trump versus Barbara. And as expected, the court cited firmly against the president affirming that any child born on U.S. soil is,
Starting point is 00:02:08 is an American citizen, regardless of why or how long their parents were in the country. That means the children of legal immigrants as well. Trump's argumentation hinged on the wording of the 14th Amendment, which says, quote, all persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. The president says this means you can be born in the U.S., but not necessarily be subject to the jurisdiction of the U.S., but the majority of the court disagreed with Justice's Amy Coney-Barrant, Brett Kavanaugh, and Chief Justice Roberts, citing with the liberal
Starting point is 00:02:42 justices for a six-three ruling, though we'll get into it a bit, Brett Kavanaugh, not agreeing that it was a violation of the Constitution. The remaining conservative justices each penned their own dissents. Alito's dissent leaned on the concept of allegiance, saying that, quote, subject to the jurisdiction of, requires full undivided allegiance. It's not satisfied by simple physical presence in the U.S. For his part, Thomas pointed out in his dissent that the 14th amendment actually had a narrow purpose initially. He said the amendment was, quote, designed and understood to secure equal rights for the freed blacks, and that it has instead, quote, been repurposed for political projects that the Reconstruction Congress did not support. He also underscored that it applied
Starting point is 00:03:22 specifically to people already, quote, domiciled in the United States. In other words, people who had no other homeland. And there was a little drama on that point. Justice Jackson's concurring opinion included a rather pointed jab at Thomas' historical argument, insinuating that race was at the heart of the matter. She said, quote, despite his longstanding endorsement of a colorblind constitution, Justice Thomas now surprisingly suggests that the citizenship clause was a race-conscious remedial measure. Now, Brett Kavanaugh actually had the most interesting vote. Despite voting with the majority, as I said, to uphold birthright citizenship, he disagreed with the majority reasoning, saying that he agreed that the 14th Amendment provides grounds for
Starting point is 00:04:01 qualifying citizenship, but that Congress would need to be the ones to specify the various carveouts. Second major ruling we had yesterday related to women's sports, we had Little v. Hecox and West Virginia versus BPJ. What did those cases find? Yeah, so this decision covered two suits brought by biologically male athletes who sued their respective states, Idaho and West Virginia, for preventing them from playing on girls' sports teams. Morningwire actually spoke with one of the attorneys involved in this case, Kristen Wagner, from Alliance Defending Freedom. Here's what she had to say about the case and the arguments before the court. In 2020, the first state passed a law to protect women's sports
Starting point is 00:04:38 after legislators saw around the nation that women were losing podium spots and trophies and roster spots. And so states decided to do something about it. And 27 states passed laws to protect women and girls. Two of those states, Idaho and West Virginia, passed those laws and the ACLU sued those states. So essentially the court's holding was whether states can protect the women's category.
Starting point is 00:05:02 by ensuring that only women are competing. Now, is this like the Dobbs ruling where now states can just make the rules that they want? No, actually. This ruling addresses the specific issue of biological sex itself. Here's Wagner elaborating on that. There were two claims before the court. One involved a federal statute called Title IX. The other involved the equal protection clause.
Starting point is 00:05:24 The court's decision resoundingly says very clearly, even all nine justices agreed that under Title IX, states have the right to make sure that the female category is for females and that sex is the clearest, most objective and workable way to ensure equal opportunities under that federal statute. The next cases that you will see being litigated through the system is whether unwilling, intransigent states can be forced to protect women and girls. Well, this has been a defining issue of the 2020s. It was a matter of time before it made it to the high court. Cabot, thanks for reporting.

A federal grand jury is investigating the financial network of a reclusive millionaire Neville Roy Singham, a self-described Marxist who lives in China. Lawmakers are concerned about his funding of anti-Israel protests and left-wing activism organizations in the U.S. Daily Wire reporter Megan Basham is here now with the details. So Megan, just to start, can you acquaint us with who? Neville Singham is, because he's not really a household name here. No, he's not, Georgia, but he has
Starting point is 00:08:30 become one of the most influential political funders on the far left. So he's a software entrepreneur who funded the IT consulting company ThoughtWorks, and he sold it back in 2017 for just shy of a billion dollars. Well, since then, he has devoted much of that fortune to funding a broad network of NGOs, media outlets, and extremist groups all around the world. Now, while Singham was born in the United States, he lives primarily in China, and as you said, he openly identifies as a Marxist, and he has also delivered speeches praising Chinese development and invoking Mao Zedong's concept of a quote-unquote people's war. He's even called capitalism, the face of fascism. This was part of a speech he gave at an event
Starting point is 00:09:20 sponsored by the Chinese Communist Party in Shanghai last year. In fact, fascism is actually a face of capitalism and imperialism, as is colonialism. These are the three faces of a system that quite now is getting very, very dangerous for us. The international rules-based order was created by another lie, which was that the fascists were all protected by the Americans and put into power in their countries, in Japan and in Italy. if we want to therefore have a new world's order that is based on multilateralism that President Xi and CPC and China have proposed, we have to undo the ideological damage that has been done
Starting point is 00:10:02 by the narrative of World War II. And then also part of his activist background, he's married to Jody Evans, the co-founder of the activist group Code Pink, which has long opposed American foreign policy while expressing support for communist governments, including China and Cuba. Now, what exactly prompted this Justice Department investigation? Well, essentially, federal prosecutors and Manhattan have impaneled this grand jury to investigate whether Singham's financial network has violated federal law. So they're looking at whether money moved through donor advised funds, shell corporations, non-profit organizations,
Starting point is 00:10:41 anything that might have involved crimes such as wire fraud, bank fraud, money laundering. So all of those financial crimes. And the investigation was reportedly authorized by acting attorney general Todd Blanche and is being handled through the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York because that is one of the Justice Department's premier prosecutorial offices. And then there's also concerns that these activities are funding destabilizing left-wing activist movements in the U.S. Congresswoman Anna Polina Luna addressed concerns over Singham's network in a House Oversight Committee hearing last year. Neville Seingham, regardless of what you might feel about your colleagues, has been a mechanism and funding arm of the Chinese Communist Party.
Starting point is 00:11:23 He's not a registered agent by FARA and has been connected to a number of rights to include the anti-Isteratists being funded in Los Angeles, as well as a group that was tied to and being investigated for the assassination of Charlie Kirk. So Luna mentioned F-A-R-A there and how Chinese actors are violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act or F-A-R-A. How does that fit in with Singham? Well, I mean, it's really a key concern here, Georgia. Singham lives in Shanghai. He attends CCP-linked forums, and he's called for a quote-unquote New World Order. So because of that, multiple House and Senate members, including senators Marsha Blackburn, Josh Holly, Tom Cotton, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Lindsay Graham, they've all raised alarms that these groups act as CCP influencers without registering under FARA,
Starting point is 00:12:13 which does require disclosure for those doing political work on behalf of foreign principles. So they're asking why entities that have consistently promoted pro-CC rhetoric and anti-U.S. agitation aren't subject to greater scrutiny. Houseways and Means Chairman Jason Smith highlighted abuse of tax-exempt status to fund left-wing chaos. Now, that said, this is a first-of-its-kind investigation here, though no charges have been filed, but subpoenas have been issued, so we're going to have to wait and see how this actually plays out because we're in new territory here. Well, certainly foreign influence is a growing concern for Americans, so I'm sure a lot of people want to see where this goes and if they can actually make a case. Megan, thanks for reporting. Joining us now to discuss the Trump administration's widening crackdown on fraud is Daily Wire
Starting point is 00:13:37 editor-in-chief Brent Sher. Brent, thanks for coming on. Yeah, of course, Georgia. So let's start with the latest from the Trump administration. We had HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Federal Medicare and Medicaid administrator, Dr. Mehmet Oz, who dropped a pretty stunning number last week. They said that over a million people enrolled in the Obamacare plans had no social security number on file.
Starting point is 00:14:01 So can you walk us through what they're actually alleging with that? Yeah, right. This came out in a video. The two of them posted just the other day. The specific finding is that roughly, 1 million broker-assisted enrollments through healthcare.gov. Now, that's the online enrollment portal for Obamacare, had no social security number attached.
Starting point is 00:14:22 And furthermore, there was no premium that was even being collected on those plans. So RFK and Dr. Oz are framing that combination, no ID verification, and zero cost to the enrollee as basically a blueprint for fraud. Kennedy put it bluntly. Why are we paying people we don't know if they actually exist? And Dr. Oz pointed the finger at rogue insurance brokers, allegedly enrolling people without their knowledge, just to collect the commissions. And he had a pretty direct warning for them. If you're a fraudster, here's our advice to you. Do not walk away from us. Run. Well, and this one million potentially fraudulent Obamacare enrollments is really just a small piece of this much larger picture of health care waste, correct? Yeah, and HHS estimates that improper, phantom, or outright fraudulent enrollments peaked at 5.6 million people last year. And this comes obviously at a staggering cost to taxpayers who are paying probably $10 billion a year going back to 2021 for this. Now, Medicaid says that it's already stripped or blocked close to 2.9 million improper
Starting point is 00:15:37 enrollments with another 2.6 million still under review. Now, the potential fraudulent enrollees on these government-sponsored health insurance plans are just one segment of the fraud that they're now looking at. We have a wide variety of schemes involving multiple federal and state programs that have recently been uncovered across the board. Can you talk to some of the other ones we've seen? Yeah, I mean, the full breadth of the fraud is staggering. A CMS official involved in the anti-fraud efforts said that just last week, the Justice Department's national health care fraud take down, they produced the largest number of Medicaid fraud defendants and the largest Medicaid fraud loss ever charged in DOJ history. 295 defendants and over $518 million in false claims that were submitted to Medicaid alone.
Starting point is 00:16:30 And that's separate from what we were talking about before, the broader $6.5 billion health care fraud figure that we've reported on. This is specifically just the state-run Medicaid program piece of it. Now, the Trump administration is basically saying this is kind of an all-hands-on-deck situation attacking this fraud. he's named J.D. Vance to lead the Anti-Fraud Task Force. What kind of actions are they taking? Yeah, this past week, the task force announced what officials are calling the largest health care fraud takedown in the country's history. 455 defendants charged nationwide, including nearly 100 medical professionals tied to more than $6.5 billion in false claims. FBI director Cash Patel called the results of this historic. And federal officials say,
Starting point is 00:17:19 They've already clawed back $182 million in cash and assets. We're talking not just money, luxury cars, jewelry, just in two weeks since this big enforcement push began. I mean, it's just crazy all the million and billion dollar figures we're reading out here. Yeah, it's an out of control situation for sure. Brent, thanks so much for reporting. Yeah, of course.
