Daily Wire senior editor, Cabot Phillips, Phillips has more from Washington. So Cabot, the shutdown

drags on and now more Americans are starting to feel the impact. What's the latest? Yeah, as we approach the 40-day mark, this is now the longest government shutdown in history. Now, for many folks in the first month, if you weren't a federal employee or tourist in D.C., you may not have felt any noticeable impact on your day-to-day life, but that could change by the end of this week with significant impacts coming to air travel. Remember, air traffic controllers have been working without pay for over a month now. That has resulted in serious staff shortages that are getting worst by the day. And many of those who are on the job have been working long shifts six days a week. As a result, starting this morning, the FAA will begin requiring at least 40 airports to cut back on their flight offerings.

In total, the FAA says they are reducing overall flight capacity by 4% today, and then eventually working up to 10% across what they call high traffic areas. That is going to impact hundreds of thousands of travelers and put even more pressure on lawmakers to get a deal done. So to that point, are we any closer to getting a compromise? Well, Republicans are holding firm, saying that they will not agree to a budget that offers billions of taxpayer dollars for health care subsidies that eventually will make their way to illegal immigrants. For their part, Democrats on the Hill huddled for a lunch on Thursday afternoon to discuss that offer in their broader strategy. Dailywire congressional reporter Amber Joe Cooper was on the ground in D.C. Here's what she had to say about where things now stand. Yeah, we're hearing that a new deal was offered to Senate Democrats on Thursday.

And while we don't know much of the details, a Senate source familiar with negotiations told me that there's going to be. be another vote today that could potentially reopen the government. The Senate's expected to hold a procedural vote on the House passed continuing resolution, and they're hoping to amend it and push the date out a bit and add a three-bill spending package, also known as a minibus. I'm told that the minibus includes three full-year funding bills for agriculture, FDA, military construction, VA, and the legislative branch. Now, there's a chance that this could get blocked by Senate Democrats today. They'll need 60 votes to push it forward, which means that they need at least five Democrats to join Republicans to reopen the government. Now, looking big picture following Tuesday's election results, Democrats certainly feel

confident that they are winning the messaging battle and that they now have the momentum. And importantly, the leverage when it comes to the shutdown. So they're unlikely to rush to make concessions at this point, given that reality. Now, let's talk about President Trump. He's been weighing in recently. Where does he stand on all this? Yeah. In the early days of the shutdown, the White House was clearly confident that Democrats would bear the blame among voters. But following the sweeping success for Democrats at the polls this week, Trump was seemingly a bit spooked. He met with GOP leaders on the Hill this week and made clear that he felt the shutdown hurt them down ballot. And as a sign of that concern over how this is all playing, Trump then went a step further, urging party

leaders to eliminate the Senate filibuster and use that elimination to force an end to the shutdown themselves. Here's Daily Wire White House correspondent Mary Margaret O'Han with more on the White House's strategy. He has been talking on this vein of thinking since Wednesday, the day after the elections, when he had all these Republican senators to breakfast, and he told them that the shutdown did, in fact, impact the elections and that Republicans were not viewed favorably, which is a shift in messaging from what the White House has been saying, because all along so far, we've been hearing that, you know, Democrats are the reason for the shutdown and Americans should be mad at Democrats. And I think they were really hoping that this was the way it would be perceived.

So this is sometimes referred to as the nuclear option because it would be a very big deal to abolish the filibuster. Walk us through what it would mean exactly. Well, for context, while legislation technically only needs a simple majority to pass the Senate, because of the filibuster, you actually need 60 votes to really get legislation to the floor even for a vote. Both Democrats and Republicans have considered nuking it, aka the nuclear option, as they call it, but ultimately they've stopped for fear of how it would be used against them once they

inevitably lost power. But now, President Trump is calling for just that. The Democrats will exercise their rights and it will be done in the first day they take office regardless of whether or not we do it. The Democrats want to end the filibuster. Don't you understand that, Republicans? Now, at the moment, a number of Republicans in the Senate have come out publicly saying that they will never vote to end the filibuster. But we'll see if that changes as Trump continues his pressure campaign and this shutdown drags on. Well, it would be a major change to how American politics proceeds. Cabot, thanks for reporting. After several decades in Congress and two stints as the Speaker of the House, Democrat Nancy Pelosi announced she's not running for re-election. Daily Wire political reporter Cameron Arkand joins us now to discuss. So, Cameron, a major announcement yesterday that we wanted to spend some time today unpacking. Why do you think Nancy Pelosi decided to announce her retirement now? Well, good morning. I mean, the timing of this comes right after the Prop 50 election that we saw earlier this week. It had been reported for weeks now that she was debating whether or not she would run for re-election. So this did not come as a surprise in terms of timing here, but this does give room for people who could potentially be

her successor and her San Francisco-based district to launch their campaigns and really kick it off. She has been such a looming figure in California politics and in national politics as well, that this is no surprise that she would want to give people time to essentially lay the groundwork, especially in the Bay Area. Now, she was obviously a polarizing figure, many on the left idolizing her, people on the right, including Donald Trump, not really a fan. What has the response been to this announcement? Well, the response has been exactly what you would expect with such a distinct figure that you just mention, here's the clip of Nancy Pelosi announcing that she's retiring. There has been no greater honor for me than to stand on the house floor and say, I speak for the people of San Francisco.

I have truly loved serving as your voice in Congress, and I've always honored the song of St. Francis. Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. With a grateful heart, I look forward to my final year of service as your proud representative. And here's President Trump. reacting to the news. I thought she was an evil woman who did a poor job, who cost the country a lot in damages and in reputation. I thought she was terrible. President Trump told Fox News that she had lost the grip on the party over time, which, to a degree, this was becoming very notable toward the end of her time that we're seeing

here in Congress. Remember some of the divide that she had between her and the squad with AOC and that faction of her political party. Now, Hakeem Jeffries is currently the minority leader, and he has been the one for some time to kind of navigate some of those inner party battles. But Nancy Pelosi has still played a major, major role in influencing the political scene not only on Capitol Hill, but also as a whole. Keep in mind, she was the person who behind the scenes was pressuring President Joe Biden back in 2024 to drop out of the race. She was the person orchestrating a lot of that. So she really did play a major role. Now, of course, in the Democratic side, in Congress, we're seeing a lot of people share memories of her and just saying that they're going to

embrace her last year there. Now, what comes next for her district in San Francisco? Presumably, we will have a progressive come to take her place. Now, that is going to be open season in the Bay Area for her seat. We've already seen people like California State Senator Scott Weiner, who is a major socially progressive activists in the Bay Area jump in. We've seen AOC's former chief of staff. We've also seen some hints that her daughter, Christine Pelosi, has been floated as a pick. I was reading that in the Hill today. I've also seen Pelosi also potentially maybe looking at a San Francisco County supervisor potentially be tapped to be her successor as well. I'd really be keeping a close eye on what the tech world is doing and also who people like Governor Gavin Newsome and former

Vice President Kamala Harris would endorse in this race. Well, no doubt it's an end of an era. Truly, and I mean, I think what we're going to see now is this passing of the torch in the Democratic Party. We saw it last year with the 2024 election, Biden, passing it off to Kamala Harris for the nomination. We're soon going to see that in the House even more obviously so, because Pelosi has been there still, even with Jeffreys at the helm, and we'll see how her influence being removed from the Capitol in the very direct way will be. influencing the party for years to come. Thank you. Federal border authorities saw another month of historic lows at the border. For more on what's driving down illegal crossings is Daily Wire Immigration Reporter, Jenny Terry Tare. So, Jenny, we're now nine months since inauguration day. What do things look like at the border? Right now, it's a complete difference from what we saw under the Biden administration. Right now, we just saw the lowest October on record of illegal crossings.

with just 30,000 of those. I just spoke with Border Patrol chief Mike Banks about this. He said that they're seeing real success at the border and that it really shows that while there was a lot of talk about Congress needing to act, it really happened with just a stroke of a pen when President Trump came into office again. He also said that while we haven't yet achieved operational control at the border, we're much closer than we've ever been, listen to what he had to say. You know, people ask me all the time, and I will tell you, two days ago, 100 people crossed the border, 102, to be exact. Take that down from 10 to 12,000 a day, you know, during the prior administration. I understand that that is not operational control.

Operational control is going to be when we can apprehend anything that enters this country and have zero gotaways. And we've closer than we've ever, we're closer than we've ever been, but we're not even close to being done. counter to all the rhetoric that we heard for four years saying that there had to be new laws passed, not one single new law has been passed regarding immigration, and not one single dime of new money had been given to the United States Border Patrol. And look what we've done in nine months. Meanwhile, Border Patrol agents are back on the front lines of the border and doing the jobs that they've wanted to do.

And they're also now freed up to help ICE across the country with mass deportation raids. Now, I'm glad you brought up deportation raids because I know you spoke with an ICE agent this morning who was attacked by an illegal immigrant while he was assisting on an arrest in Texas. What did he say? Right. So this is just one agent as part of that thousand percent increase in assaults that we've talked about here many times as part of the Trump administration's effort. This is just coincided. It's been a dueling crisis that they're trying to crack down on illegal immigration. but they've found that they are encountering more brazen targets and, of course, rioters and agitators who are trying to seize on this moment. So the agent I spoke with just recently was attacked by an illegal immigrant. He had multiple convictions.

He sexually assaulted a child, had multiple DUIs, convicted for child fondling. He also illegally re-entered the United States at a point. This illegal immigrant tried to run from the officer, and what ended up happening is he really tried to defend him off and did so with the strength of a metal coffee cup that was full of hot coffee that he threw at the officer. That led to about 13 stitches in his upper lip. I saw what it looked like. It was basically cut in half. And he also has bruising to the face. He's got second degree burns on his body. This is what they're facing right now. Now, is it normal for them to face this much resistance to arrest, or is this kind of behavior ramping up?

This seems to be the new norm with a ramping up of this, of course. Like you just said, this agent in particular had just rejoined the force in September. He left ICE a while ago. He decided to come back because the Trump administration has been trying to recruit more officers, and they've actually been trying to find retired ones to rejoin because they've gotten so much funding from the one big beautiful bill. So that's how this guy got back on the job just a few months ago. And this is what it's become. Listen to what he had to say about that change. It's a lot different than the job I left. Everybody's running. Everybody's fighting. I would like the rhetoric to cool down a little bit. So a very challenging new normal, it sounds like. Jenny,
