The U.S. has issued a travel alert to Americans to exercise caution in the U.K. This comes after British authorities arrested five men yesterday near an airbase used by the U.S. military.

Counterterrorism police are investigating the incident as a possible terror attack. Here with the details is Daily Wire Culture Reporter, Megan Basham. So, Megan, obviously the location and timing of this incident is raising alarms. What exactly happened? Yeah, Georgia. So shortly after midnight on Sunday, police in Gloucestershire, England, received a call that three suspicious-looking vehicles were seen traveling toward Royal Air Force Base Fairford. So that is the Air Force Base that U.S. military also uses, that John Menace.

there at the outset, it's in southwest England. It's about 80 miles outside of London. So a local farmer has now come forward to say that she was the one who alerted police to this, and she said that she saw five masked Middle Eastern-looking men on her way home from a party, and here's part of what she told the telegraph, and I'm reading here her quote, I saw a group of Middle Eastern-looking young guys running off through the trees. Some of them had masks or Balaclava's on, and they all scattered ahead of us as we drove back past. So she quickly contacted police. Now, authorities then tracked and arrested these five men in the nearby village of Wellford, and were told that they were initially detained on suspicion of violating the UK's

Explosives Act. And later, counterterrorism police added that the men had also been arrested on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack. Now, all five remained in custody as investigators examined the vehicles and some dramatic pictures emerged of the suspects. Now, their faces were blurred in accordance with UK law, but from what we could see, they did match the description of that farmer who initially spotted them. So police have not released any names or motives at this point, but this was what a spokesman for the Gloucestershire Police Department said to the press yesterday. The men were taken into custody where they remain. A 400-meter cordon has been put in place around the vehicles while the Army's explosive, ordinance, disposal unit examined them.

So at this point, investigators are working to establish what exactly was in those vehicles and whether any of that material could have been used in an attack. Also worth noting that there are reports that these men were spotted wearing quote-unquote suicide vests. Now, looking at the context of these arrests, why would this particular base have been a possible target? Yeah, John, so one reason that terrorism experts are discussing is that it serves as the forward operating location for the U.S. Air Force. And American B-52 and B-1 bombers have operated there during strikes on Iranian missile sites. So an attack there could threaten American military personnel and a base involved in the war with Iran. In fact, Iran's Revolutionary Guard warned

Britain just this past July, and they said that allowing U.S. bombers to fly from Fairford would, in their words, make that base a quote-unquote legitimate target. Now, President Trump indicated that the U.S. might have been involved in some capacity with tracking down these individuals. What do we know about that effort? Yeah, Georgia. So President Trump implied that U.S. investigators were actually tracking these suspects ahead of these arrests. This was what the president told reporters yesterday. We had them under investigation. They were looking to do big damage to our fort. And working with the British worked out great.

It may have been Scotland Yard. I don't know. We worked with a lot of them. We had them under view for a long time and we got them. Now, to go along with that, a spokesman for the U.S. European Command told the Daily Wire that it is working with British counterparts to monitor the situation and also to protect American personnel. And armed police and roadblocks have both been set up near the area. and British officials say that the public should expect continued police presence as this investigation continues. The Supreme Court has ruled to allow the Trump administration to use a centralized database for citizenship verification for voters. Meanwhile, President Trump is gearing up for aggressive campaigning. Here with more is our tireless D.C. Bureau Chief Tim Rice, Tim, thanks for coming on.

Of course, guys. So a lot has happened in D.C. over the last few days. I know you've been very busy with this she visit. But let's start with this. this new ruling from SCOTUS. What can you tell us about that? Yeah. So it's an emergency ruling, which, you know, viewers will probably remember that the Supreme Court is not in session, right? They gaveled out of term at the end of the summer. So what happened is a lower court had blocked the Trump administration from making use of this database that Georgia mentioned. And we'll come back to that in a second. But there's this federal rule that says that you can't make any changes to how elections are carried out within some of the

something like 60 days of an actual election, right? So the idea there is to say that the rules have to be set whatever they may be with enough time for everyone to kind of acclimate, so there's no last minute changes. So the lower court had blocked the Trump administration from using this tool. They filed an emergency petition with the court, and the court ruled in favor of the Trump administration. Now, because this is not in session, the majority opinion is unsigned. We don't know who wrote it, but dissents are signed, and lo and behold, it was the three liberal justices who dissented. so we can kind of get a sense of who the majority is. But the whole thing is a little bit overblown.

It's obviously a win for the Trump administration. But think of this a little bit like E-Verify, right? This doesn't mandate that states have to use it. It gives them the option to do it. And it gives the federal government the option to spot check basically cases that might seem to be a non-citizen trying to vote in the upcoming election. So practically speaking, how will this affect this upcoming election? Yeah, probably not that much. I mean, there's always an opportunity, right? I think a good rule of thumb with voter fraud, especially non-citizen voter fraud, is that it happens less than conservatives tend to say, but more than liberals are willing to admit. So, you know, it might allow some people to get caught. It might allow some states. But if you sort of start to think through it, right, which states are going to allow the federal government to use this, which states are going to ask the federal government for help? It's probably going to be states like Florida, like Texas. like Tennessee, states that have already enforced border policies and are already really scrutinizing

voter rolls, right? You're thinking about states like New York and California would probably have a higher than average incidence rate of non-citizen voting. They're going to say, no thanks. We don't want this tool. If the federal government, if the Trump administration tries to come in and use the tool to spot check, as I said, voter rolls in New York, California, Pennsylvania, Maine, you can almost certainly expect the Democrat governors of those states and lawmakers from those states to some way interfere with or block the Trump administration's efforts. Yeah, I think that's a safe bet there. As for the state of play for the midterms, I know your crew talked about this a lot on the district club yesterday. The GOP has a huge war chest that

they're really starting to direct to campaigns and Trump has vowed to campaign in dozens of states that's gearing up now. Are Republicans feeling more or less confident? about their chances. Yeah, it's a great question, John. I think they're feeling less confident, which it informs this sort of last quarter blitz. But this is sort of the way that things work, right? I mean, we've said it a thousand times. We've said it. Everyone else has said it a thousand times. I'll say it one more time. In a midterm year, a midterm election following a presidential election, the party who just won the White House loses seats in Congress. This is a rule of thumb, right? This is basically as close to a guarantee as you can get in Washington. So right around now,

right, we're about to enter October, the land of the October surprise. This is crunch time. This is when candidates get very nervous. Republicans are going to be more nervous than Democrats because they have a lot more to lose because they hold both of the chambers. So I think that's why you see the GOP and Trump specifically dipping into the coffers. You see Trump hitting the campaign trail. You see Trump getting a little bit more involved when the White House has been a little bit slow to message around the midterm. So I think ask me again in a week, maybe 10 days. I think I'll say that Republicans are lot more optimistic now that the money is flowing, now that the president's out there. And I just want to say, for as much doom and gloom is out there, and, you know, again, as things do seem to be

trending at least a little bit disappointing for Republicans, two facts remain. One is that Republicans have so much cash on hand, and the DNC is literally in debt, right? Democrats do not have money on hand. That cannot be overstated enough. So the Republicans have way more cash to spend. And for all of his faults and foibles, Republicans still have the sitting president of the United States, who despite a constantly lowering opinion, a public opinion rating, still is very popular, still gets the base out. That is one thing that Democrats do, no, two things that Democrats do not have money and a president's a campaign for them. As you said, GOP behind the eight ball a little bit here, but they do have some things in their favor. Tim, thanks so much for coming up.

Of course, guys. Immigration updates abound as a new report says ICE is dramatically narrowing their targets. Meanwhile, President Trump has canceled nearly a billion dollars in federal funding. Here with the details is immigration reporter Jenny Tear. Jenny, thanks for coming on. Thanks for having me. So let's start with your exclusive that's triggered a series of reports. You've gotten word of a new directive for ICE agents going forward.

Some of this might have changed at this point. What do you know? So several ICE officers contacted us and said that they were told to stop making arrests of non-criminal illegal immigrants. What this means is that they would not arrest illegal immigrants who lack any criminal convictions or charges. What it also meant and what they were told is to stop making arrests of what are known as collateral. So let's say they're going after a target who is a criminal and maybe they're pulling them over in a car and there happened to be other illegal immigrants in the car. They were told to leave those illegal immigrants alone unless they're criminals and to just take into custody that one. target. Now, the Department of Homeland Security later responded to our reporting, and they said it was

false, and then said that no one is off the table when it comes to making arrests and deportations. They also confirmed that there is an ongoing nationwide operation to target criminals. Fox News and CBS also later reported that ICE officers were given these verbal orders to stop making arrests of non-criminals, but it may have been the result of a massive miscommunication. within the Department of Homeland Security. And DHS also now appears to be backtracking. As some of our sources say, they've now been given new verbal orders to go back to arresting criminals and non-criminals.

All right. So possibly a major miscommunication or maybe shifting a little bit in strategy here. Oh, yeah, definitely. What's the mood within ICE about this? So these officers were very frustrated, one, because they feel like this is another way to tie their hands. something that they experienced a lot under the Biden administration. And these kinds of directives were very similar to what Secretary Mayorkas told them during that time to stop making arrests of non-criminals and to solely go after hardened criminals.

So they felt like they were just backtracking. Now, officers were also frustrated with the fact that this would maybe drive down arrest numbers and that it would make it so that the mass deportation campaign, wasn't really about mass deportations anymore. So some frustration, but perhaps your reporting actually got some things back on track. Now, in other news, President Trump has canceled about a billion dollars in approved federal funding. What was that money supposed to go to? And then why was it canceled? This funding was mainly going to the Department of Health and Human Services for refugee funding and for the funding of caring for unaccompanied alien children. So these are migrants who come across the border who are children. They come without their parents or adults with them. Now, to give you an

example of where some of this funding was going, $40 million in taxpayer money was going to a group called Southwest Key Programs. This is a group that was helping care for some of these migrant children and also helping them before they were being placed with sponsors within the country. This same group actually faced a civil lawsuit from the Department of Justice for allegedly subjecting some of these children to sexual harassment and abuse. Oh my gosh. Because border crossings are at record lows, this is why the Trump administration is canceling this. They feel like there's not as much of a need. But it also seems like when we talk about examples like Southwest Key, it seems like this is also going to some questionable nonprofit groups.
