It's Thursday, September 15th, and this is your Morning Wire Afternoon Update, where we provide a brief rundown of some of the top developing stories of the day. In good news for the American economy, railroad companies and their labor unions reached a handshake agreement on Thursday morning, possibly averting a strike that threatened to exacerbate U.S. supply chain woes. The marathon talks began early Wednesday and were brokered by Labor Secretary Martin Walsh, leading to an agreement that, now goes to union members for a vote. Rail workers are demanding sick days and more paid time off. In the meantime, the unions have agreed not to strike. Two migrant buses from Del Rio, Texas, arrived near Vice President Kamala Harris's residence in Washington, D.C., Thursday morning. This comes a day after Florida governor, Rhonda Santis flew two planes of migrants to Martha's vineyard, escalating a tactic by Republican governors to protest the Biden administration's border
Starting point is 00:00:58 policies. Vice President Harris said recently that the border was secure, a claim rejected by many, including a migrant who told Fox News. The border is open. Republican candidates in Pennsylvania are lagging in their midterm races against Democratic rivals, according to a recent poll from CBS News and UGov. Democratic Senate nominee John Federman is supported by 52% of respondents, while Republican rival and celebrity cardiologist Dr. Mehmet Oz is,
Starting point is 00:01:32 is backed by 47%. The race is key for control of the Senate, currently locked at 50-50. Average mortgage rates in the U.S. hit 6% for the first time since 2008. One year ago, the average rate was 2.86. The Supreme Court has temporarily forced Yeshiva University, the famed Orthodox Jewish University in New York, to accept an LGBTQ club against its wishes. This is a case about who decides who can direct the religious mission at the nation's oldest and most renowned Jewish university. CNN's shake-up continues. Long-time host Don Lemon is losing his primetime weeknight show, moving now to the a.m. hours to co-host the network's revamped morning show,

The move comes as CNN's new Cee's, Chris Lict is attempting to pull the network back from overtly left-leaning coverage and commentary. Tennis legend Roger Federer announced his retirement Thursday morning. Federer won 20 grand slam titles and finished five seasons ranked number one in the world.
