Last night over dinner, I told my kids about the decision that I'm sharing with you today. Amid mounting calls for his resignation in battled Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is stepping down. Daily Wire Deputy Managing editor Tim Rice has the latest. Trudeau made the announcement
Starting point is 00:00:38 today after nearly a decade in office. The prime minister says he asked the president of the liberal party to begin the process of selecting its next leader and will hang on to power until one is chosen. Trudeau faced cratering approval ratings as living costs and government spending both skyrocketed. The resignation of his finance minister, Christia Freeland, last month further fueled criticism of his leadership. His resignation comes as recent polls, show his party lagging far behind the conservative party led by Pierre Polyev ahead of an election expected by late October. This country deserves a real choice in the next election, and it has become clear to me
Starting point is 00:01:15 that if I'm having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in that election. A major winter storm is slamming parts of the U.S. with heavy snow and freezing rain, including in D.C. where Congress made Trump's electoral victory official. Daily Wire Senior Editor Cabot Phillips has the details. The National Weather Service is urging residents in hard-hit areas like the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest to avoid non-essential travel with untreated roads already impassable in many regions. The storm which started on the West Coast has caused flight cancellations, accidents, and even thrown Washington, D.C. for a loop.
Starting point is 00:01:51 Today, Congress met in a joint session to certify Donald Trump's presidential victory. There to oversee the certification was the Democrat Donald Trump defeated in the election. Kamala Harris, who had to preside over the process as sitting vice president. The votes for president of the United States are as follows. Donald J. Trump of the state of Florida has received 312 votes. Kamala D. Harris, Kamala D. Harris of the state of California has received 226 votes. President-elect Trump is moving to delay his January 10th sentencing in the New York hush money case.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Daily Wire reporter Amanda Presta Giacomo is here now. with more. Trump's legal team filed a motion today arguing that the sentencing violates the Supreme Court's decision on presidential immunity and other legal precedents. Manhattan Judge Juan Mershahn previously ruled that Trump will face an unconditional discharge, meaning no punishment will be imposed. The case stems from Trump's conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to so-called hush money payments made before the 2016 election. Trump has called the case a political witch hunt and maintains his innocence. His sentencing is set just 10 days before his inauguration on January 20th.
Starting point is 00:03:12 The first lawsuit related to the New Year's Day terror attack on Bourbon Street has been announced. A local law firm plans to sue the city of New Orleans and its police department, claiming negligence allowed the attack which killed 14 and injured dozens. The lawsuit set to be filed Wednesday alleges the attacker exploited failures in the city safety measures and that the attack was both foreseeable and preventable. The legal action seeks compensation. for a survivor and accountability from the city, stating, quote, the citizens of New Orleans deserve answers.

The lawsuit, which was filed today, accuses the administration of corrupting the review process and harming American steel workers. The companies are asking for a new review of the deal by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States as Biden's term winds down with just weeks left. President Biden awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to billionaire George Soros over the weekend, sparking a flurry of criticism. Soros has faced backlash for funding far-left prosecutors who have pushed soft on crime policies. His son, Alex, accepted the award at the White House ceremony. Among the other controversial award recipients is Hillary Clinton. Clinton has been accused of corruption by Republicans,
Starting point is 00:04:50 with some like Montana Senator Tim Sheehe saying she abandoned our Navy SEALs in Libya. A new poll first reported by The Daily Wire shows overwhelming opposition among parents to schools teaching young children about gender identity and sexual orientation. Daily Wire's senior reporter, Mary Margaret Olehend reports. The survey, conducted by parents defending education, found that 75% of parents opposed such instruction for elementary students, and 80% believe schools should notify parents before attempting to guide a child through a quote-unquote gender transition. The poll also revealed widespread disproval of policies allowing males to compete women's sports or use female locker rooms with nearly 80% opposing these measures. parents expressed frustration over activist-driven policies in schools and called for a renewed focus on academics. And comedian Nikki Glazer opened the 82nd Golden Globes,
Starting point is 00:05:46 roasting Hollywood's inability to sway voters in the 2024 election. Known for her sharp humor, Glazer promised to be bold but less controversial in tone than Ricky Jervais.
