Starting point is 00:00:02 The second would-be Trump assassination suspect will stay behind bars as controversy stirs over the release of an alleged manifesto letter. The biggest obstacle was proving his intent. The words he used shows that he knew what he was doing. This was premeditation. This was thought out. Why did the DOJ release the letter and what new details did we learn from prosecutors? I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley. It's Tuesday, September 24th.
Starting point is 00:00:31 And this is Morning Wire. The real issue is that America has allowed gangs to enter our country. They let terrorists in our country. Violent Venezuelan gang Trend de Aragua is bringing the threat of turf wars to Chicago as the windy city continues to spend hundreds of millions on illegal immigrants. And a new poll shows Donald Trump leading across several states where voters say they thrived during his previous term. Thanks for waking up with Morning Wire.

Starting point is 00:01:45 Trump's suspected assassin Ryan Routh appeared in court on Monday for a pretrial detention hearing. In a court filing, prosecutors released a letter allegedly found among his belongings that offered a hefty reward for Trump's assassination. Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce is here to talk about the court appearance and what prosecutors revealed about the alleged second assassination attempt against Trump. Hey, Tim. So what did we learn in court yesterday? Well, Ralph was in court for a judge to decide whether or not.
Starting point is 00:02:13 he should be detained until trial. Prosecutors wanted Ralph to stay locked up, and after looking at the prosecution's reasoned for that request, the judge agreed. The judge denied Ralph Bale on the grounds that he is a serious flight risk and a danger to the community. We also learned that prosecutors want to ask a grand jury to consider charging Ralph with attempting to assassinate Trump. He's currently facing two federal charges related to illegal possession of a firearm. Let's look at some of those reasons, one of which was a handwritten letter that sparked quite a bit of discussion online yesterday. What can you tell us about that letter? Right. So according to a court filing, a civilian witness came to law enforcement about a box he received from Ralph several
Starting point is 00:02:52 months ago. Prosecutors said that the box held ammunition, building materials, tools for cell phones and some letters. One of those letters was handwritten and addressed to the world. Now, prosecutors didn't directly allege that Ralph wrote this letter, but the filing strongly implies it. And prosecutors quote from it several times to argue that he needs to stay behind bars until trial. The letter says, quote, this was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, but I failed you. It goes on to offer $150,000 to, quote, whomever can complete the job. Another part of the letter suggests that Trump's policy toward Iran may have been a motivating factor in the assassination attempt. It says Trump, quote, ended relations with Iran like a child,
Starting point is 00:03:35 and now the Middle East has unraveled. It's worth noting that Ralph focused on Trump's policy with Iran in a 2023 book that contained an invitation he made for Iran to, quote, assassinate Trump. Now, some people are upset that it has now been released to the public. Why are people questioning the Justice Department's actions here? Yeah, so many say that the release of this letter, especially with its bounty on Trump's head, is dangerous. People worry that it will encourage more violence against the former president. The Daily Wire spoke with Trump's son, Donald Trump, Jr. about the letter, and he called the Justice Department's decision to release it reckless. He said the department is putting his father's life even more at risk. Of course, on the other side of
Starting point is 00:04:15 that debate is the public interest in knowing as much as possible about a man suspected of trying to kill a major candidate for the presidency. Right. So that's the letter. What else did we learn from prosecutors yesterday? That Ralph had apparently done pretty extensive research into former President Trump's schedule and habits ahead of the assassination attempt. According to prosecutors, he visited Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort and the Trump International Golf Course on several occasions in the month before he was arrested. Investigators recovered a handwritten list of dates and places where Trump had appeared or was expected to appear before the 2024 election. They also found six cell phones in the suspect's car. One of them had a Google search in it of how to travel
Starting point is 00:04:55 from Palm Beach County to Mexico. And so a potential getaway plan or at least that's the implications there. Tim, thanks for joining us. Thanks for having me. Starting point is 00:05:41 Chicago gang members and ex-convicts are warning of destructive turf wars with newly arrived Venezuelan migrant gang members amid a wave of crimes committed by the groups. Here to discuss is Daily Wire reporter Amanda Presta Giacomo. Hey Amanda. So the city of Chicago, like other cities, has taken in an unprecedented number of migrants in the past couple of years and seen more violence as a result. Tell us what's going on there. Right, John. gang members and ex-convicts in the city say Venezuelan migrants who are part of the notorious Trenda-Aragua gang or TDA are taking over Chicago turf. TDA members are also recipients of some pretty robust welfare benefits, which is also angering residents and gang members who say that money
Starting point is 00:06:23 should be going to Chicago citizens who are suffering. Things have gotten so bad. Chicagoans are warning that some intense violence could be right around the corner. Tyrone Muhammad and ex-Con and former gang member, spoke to the New York Post about this in blunt terms. When the black gangs get fed up with the illegalities and the criminal activity of these migrants or non-citizens, the city of Chicago is going to go up in smoke, it's going to go up in flame, and there's got to be nothing that the National Guard or our government can do about it when the bloodshed hit the streets, blacks against migrants. The On the Ground reporting from the Post is shocking.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Residents say TDA gang members and other migrants are flooding their shelters, increasingly taking up apartments, and they're displacing Chicago residents. As we've reported here, that kind of displacement is also a problem for residents in Springfield, Ohio. There, Haitian migrants, who are subsidized by taxpayers, were sometimes paying $3,000 a month in rent. Residents just can't afford that. Yeah. What is the situation with immigration? in Chicago. Do we know how many Venezuelans or TDA members are actually in the city? Well, since 2022, an estimated 48,000 migrants have come to the city, and the majority of new migrant
Starting point is 00:07:44 arrivals in Chicago are Venezuelans. The same is true for New York City and Denver. Chicago has spent half a billion dollars of taxpayer money on the newcomers. As for TDA gang members specifically, we don't know how many are in Chicago, but it's already been confirmed that these gang members are in the city. With Venezuelan immigrants, U.S. officials are not given their criminal history. Cuba, China, and some other countries also don't share criminal records with the U.S., so authorities have no way of knowing who is a criminal. For some context here, upwards of 330,000 Venezuelans cross the southern border into the U.S. just last year. Under the Biden-Harris regime, close to a million have tried to cross the border.
Starting point is 00:08:26 So hundreds of thousands of people without criminal background checks. Right, and these migrant gang members are causing issues in other parts of the nation, too. As the governor of a border state, Greg Abbott is on the front lines of dealing with TDA. He discussed immigration and the brutality of the gang during a press conference last week. TDA is notorious for their brutal violence and murder and their kidnapping, extortion, bribery, and trafficking of drugs, weapons, and even humans. They've been linked to more than 100 law enforcement investigations across the country. They were involved in the brutal attack and assault upon New York Police Department law enforcement officers.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Reports have also linked TDA to the murder of Lincoln Riley. There have also been reports and shocking footage of alleged migrant TDA gang members in Aurora, Colorado. One man told CNN that condemned buildings he owns, have been taken over by TDA gang members. There was also that shocking footage out of an apartment complex, showing armed men walking down hallways and kicking open an apartment door. Authorities in Aurora, who are definitely trying to downplay some of these reports, they made arrests in connection to that apartment complex incidents,
Starting point is 00:09:47 and they've said that it's possible these men are tied to TDA. They noted that, again, it's hard to confirm the connection since Venezuela does not share criminal background information with the U.S. It's a border policies forcing law enforcement to run blind there. Meanwhile, Americans growing increasingly concerned. Amanda, thanks for reporting. You're welcome. America will make its pick for president just six weeks from today. As the final sprint begins, new polls are shining a light on potential paths to victory for each candidate. Here with the latest from the campaign trail is Daily Wire senior editor, Cabot Phillips. So Cabot, walk us through these latest polls that have the Trump camp buzzing. Yeah, on Monday, we got our latest batch. of Sunbell polling from New York Times, Sienna.
Starting point is 00:10:32 That is the most closely watched poll among folks in Washington, and it showed Donald Trump making up major ground. In Georgia, state the Harris campaign has poured massive resources into, and has Trump up four points. In North Carolina, he's up three. Keep in mind before the debate, the same poll had him down by two. And in Arizona, he's now up five points. Likewise, before the debate, that same poll showed him down five points.
Starting point is 00:10:56 And perhaps most importantly, when voters in those battleground states were asked about Trump's policy, from when he was in office, 45% said they had helped make their lives better, while only a third of respondents said they'd made them worse. For Harris, only 37% said her policies would help, while 42% said they would hurt. So that is a 16-point disparity. Also among independence, the disparity was even larger, with a 25-point advantage for Trump. Trump also held an 11-point lead on the top two issues of the selection, the economy, and immigration. Well, and that's not the only good news for the Trump camp this week. Right. So two surprising polls came out in recent days from states not considered
Starting point is 00:11:35 to be battlegrounds. First, a University of Mary Washington poll found Harris ahead by just one point in Virginia, a state Trump lost by 10 points last election. Early voting has already begun there, and according to state data, 54% of those who've cast a ballot have been Democrat compared to 40% Republican. Now, that sounds bad for Trump, but keep in mind, according to exit polls, in 2020, around 75% of early voters there were Democrats. So now it's 54%, a much smaller disparity. And in Minnesota, the home of Harris running mate Tim Walz, a poll from the left-leaning Star Tribune this week found Harris ahead by just five points just outside the margin of error. And one more development than went largely unnoticed. This month, Gallup released new data showing that 50% of Americans either identify as
Starting point is 00:12:23 or lean Republican compared to 45% for Democrats. Now, for context, at this point in the 2020 race, those numbers were flipped with 51% Democrat and 46% Republicans. So if those numbers are accurate, it could indicate Republicans actually being undercounted in polls. And why would that be the case? So historically, there have been about 1 to 3% more Democrats than Republicans nationwide. So in order to get an accurate depiction of the electorate, pollsters typically survey 1% to 3% more Democrats.
Starting point is 00:12:54 But if this electorate has in fact shifted and more Americans now identify with the GOP, then pollsters are likely once again underestimating Republican support. Now, it's also worth pointing out there are some good polls for Harris. Where is she doing well? Yes, there definitely are. So it appears that she has started to solidify her lead at the national level. Trump is ahead in just two of the last 13 national polls. And Harris has also seen a significant improvement in her overall favorability rating.
Starting point is 00:13:23 Before she took over the nomination, the VP had a lower favorability rating than President Biden. she was hovering around 36%. But in the last two months, those numbers have risen dramatically. She now sits around 50%. Now, Republicans say that's due almost entirely to overwhelmingly positive media coverage. But regardless, there's no denying that voters do view her far more favorably today than they did two months ago. Harris has also seen some relatively strong numbers in those critical Rust Belt states. One of the latest polls this week in Wisconsin had her up seven points,
Starting point is 00:13:54 while the New York Times Sienna had her up five in Pennsylvania. Though, if it's worth noting, those do appear to be outliers. While polling averages do have her head in all three Rust Belt states, on average, her lead there is just one percent in each. So all that to say, it is anyone's race. Right, it's incredibly close. Cabot, thanks for reporting. Anytime.
