It's Friday, January 17th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
Donald Trump's inauguration has been moved indoors to the Capitol Rotunda due to
freezing cold temperatures forecast in Washington, D.C.
Trump posted that he wants to protect law enforcement and
attendees from the dangerous Arctic cold and that he will open Capital One Arena for live viewing.
The president will join the crowd there after his swearing in. He posted, quote, everyone will be safe,
everyone will be happy, and we will together make America great again. Dangerous cold temperatures
forced Ronald Reagan's second inauguration in 1985 indoors as well. The Supreme Court upheld the TikTok
ban today, maintaining that the law furthers national security interests and does not violate the
First Amendment rights of the petitioners.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden now says he will not enforce the ban, which is set to go into effect
this Sunday.
Daily Wire Deputy Managing Editor Tim Rice has the details.
Congress says TikTok's parent company, Bite Dance, must divest by January 19th.
But Joe Biden says he's leaving the decision of how to handle TikTok to Donald Trump.
For his part, President Trump revealed that he spoke to Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday
about TikTok, fentanyl, and even trade, saying,
was a good call and quote, it is my expectation that we will solve many problems together and
starting immediately. Donald Trump is vowing swift action on immigration and trade and a flurry
of executive orders. Daily Wire reporter Cabot Phillips has the story. In a private meeting with
Senate Republicans, Trump previewed his agenda revealing plans for roughly 100 executive orders
to reshape U.S. policy, including new tariffs and border restrictions. He emphasized his America
first approach aiming to bypass congressional resistance and legal challenges.
Immigration reforms are set to target asylum programs and humanitarian protections implemented under Biden
and his much-touted deportation plan.
He's also expected to leverage emergency powers to pressure trade partners and implement tariffs.
27 people have been killed and 12,000 homes and businesses have been burned in the Los Angeles fires.
Nearly 200,000 people are still under evacuation orders, but progress is being made.
The Eaton fire is 65% contained, and the Palisades Fire stands.
at 31% containment.
Windsor expected to die down the next few days and investigations into the cause of the fires
are in full swing.
House Speaker Mike Johnson is shaking up the powerful House Intelligence Committee.
Johnson removed Republican Representative Mike Turner as chair saying the committee needs
a fresh start.
Turner is a vocal supporter of Ukraine aid and has clashed with President-elect Trump on
foreign policy.
Johnson plans to announce a new chair soon.
Cancer rates among young adults, especially well.
women are rising. Daily Wire reporter Marita Lorty has more. A new report by the American Cancer Society
found increases in 17 types of cancer, including breast, colon, and thyroid, with women under 50,
now 82% more likely to be diagnosed than men. Sisters Carmel and Kiki Rourke, both breast
cancer survivors, stressed the importance of early detection and self-advocacy as disparities persist
for black women. While overall cancer deaths have declined 34% since 1991, expert
are calling for more research into the lifestyle and environmental factors driving this rise in younger
patients. The visionary director behind Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, and Blue Velvet has died. David Lynch was
known for his dark, surrealistic style and redefined American film and television. The 78-year-old
had a unique talent for blending horror, noir, and surrealism. The four-time Oscar nominee revealed he
was diagnosed with emphysema in 2024. His family confirmed his death on Facebook, sharing one of
his signature sayings. They shared, quote, there's a big hole in the world now that he's no longer
with us, but as he would say, quote, keep your eye on the donut, not on the hole. As your drive home
