It's Friday, January 10th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
President-elect Donald Trump will face no punishment for his hush money conviction.
Daily Wire senior editor Ash Short has the story.
Donald Trump was sentenced to an unconditional discharge Friday by Judge Juan Merchant,
but the president-elect is now officially marked as a felon, at least for now.
Trump appeared on video from Mar-a-Lago and was allowed to speak.
He criticized the trial as unfair, pointing to his election victory as evidence that the American people had rejected the charges against him.
Judge Merchant acknowledged the unprecedented nature of the case, but said Trump remains subject to the law despite his presidential status.
Trump, who plans to appeal his conviction, was found guilty of falsifying business records in connection with hush money payments, but argued the trial was politically motivated.
A suspected arsonist has been detained in Los Angeles.
Daily Wire senior editor, Cabot Phillips, has the details.
The LAPD announced Thursday night they detained a suspect in the Kenneth fire, which is burning in West Hills, and remains,
0% contained. Meanwhile, firefighters are still battling multiple blazes across Los Angeles,
including the devastating palisades fire and eaten fire. And latest report, at least 10 people
have been killed, tens of thousands of structures have been destroyed. Estimated damages from the
wildfires could reach $57 billion, potentially making them the most expensive in U.S. history.
Ohio parents now have more control over what their children learn in school. Daily Wire Deputy
managing editor Tim Rice has the story.
Governor Mike DeWine signed a Parents Bill of Rights into law last week,
expanding parental oversight in schools.
The legislation requires districts to inform parents about health care changes for their children
and lessons involving sexuality or gender identity.
It also mandates schools to allow students to leave during the day for religious instruction,
bolstering access to faith-based education.
Governor DeWine defended the measure saying,
parents are the best teachers.
LGBTQ advocates have vowed to continue opposing the law.
Immigration remains a top priority for Americans heading into 2025.
Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has the numbers.
According to a new APNORC poll, about half of U.S. adults now rank immigration and border security
among the most important issues for the government to address.
That's up from one third last year.
This comes as Trump is promising mass deportations and an end to birthright citizenship.
While Republicans are particularly focused on immigration, economic concerns remain the dominant issue across all groups.
Roughly three quarters of Americans want the government to prioritize inflation, unemployment, and taxes.
Younger Americans are more focused on housing costs and inflation, while older adults list social security as a top concern.

Republican Congressman Chip Roy is demanding answers from the University of Texas.
Over a $50,000 grant it gave to Planned Parenthood.
Daily Wire reporter Leif Lemieux reports.
As first reported by the Daily Wire, the Texas representative sent a letter this week to the university's social work program related to a sub-award of 49,000 that gave to Planned Parenthood of Illinois.
The university drew the money from a $2 million federal grant from the Department of Health and Human
and human services that is supposed to be used for evaluating Thrive,
a sexual education and health organization.
In the letter, Roy wrote,
Planned Parenthood of Illinois is a radical entity,
and the University of Texas's association with it
violates the conscience of millions of Texans.
Two top staffers for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis
praised state officials for revoking and replacing
a transgender identifying man's driver's license.
Daily Wire reporter Amanda Presta Giacomo has more.
The Florida DMB has canceled the license after the man who goes by the name James Is Smiling on TikTok
shared a video explaining how he changed his sex marker on the ID from male to female using a loophole.
The now deleted video which gained attention in conservative circles included a taunting vulgar message to DeSantis.
But now, James Is Smiling has a new license with his correct male sex marker on it.
DeSantis' press secretary commended the DMB's action,
emphasizing that Florida operates on truth and will only provide an individual.
