Starting point is 00:00:02 Hey, this is Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley with Georgia Howe. It's Tuesday, October 18th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update. Bloomberg economists have upgraded the likelihood of a recession within the next year to 100%. White House Economic Advisor Cecilia Rouse told CNN that this is expected as the Federal Reserve raises hikes. Inflation is very much that the president's top concern. We are starting to see signs that our red-hot economy is starting to cool. The White House revealed this week that more than 8 million individuals have applied for student debt cancellation via the recently launched government website for that program. This is a game changer for millions of Americans.
Starting point is 00:00:43 National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease Director Anthony Fauci acknowledged this week that keeping children out of school during COVID had deleterious effects on education, but maintained that he had nothing to do with that decision. If you go back and I ask anybody to go back over the number of times, that I've said we've got to do everything we can to keep the schools open. No one plays that clip. They always come back and say Fauci was responsible for closing schools. A new Daily Wire analysis reveals that major Democrat-run cities have significantly fewer police than they did a few years ago. Cities with populations of 500,000 or more had combined 2.54 police per 1,000 residents last year, versus 2.8 in 2016.
Starting point is 00:01:29 That's according to data, elected from police departments across the country by the FBI. There's a mystery in Alaska, as 90% of the Bering Sea's winter snow crab population has effectively vanished over two years. Authorities are searching for a cause, and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game has called off the crabbing season due to the decimation. British officials have determined that communist China has been using headhunters in South Africa to recruit ex-military pilots to train pilots in China's People's Liberation Army. Western officials are reportedly scrambling to put an end to the practice. China has lured away 30 ex-military pilots from the UK by paying them salaries of around 270,000 per year, according to reports. Australia's new left-wing government announced this week that it was reversing the decision by the previous conservative administration to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital city.
Starting point is 00:02:24 And in the ongoing court case against Kevin Spacey, the embattled actor is still maintaining his innocence, claiming this week, that his publicist was the one who made him apologize to actor Anthony Rapp. Rapp has accused Spacey of sexual assault and is suing for 40 million in damages.
