Starting point is 00:00:03 I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley. It's Wednesday, October 5th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update. OPEC announced Wednesday that it will cut oil production by 2 million barrels per day, a move that is expected to cause gas prices to rise globally. The announcement came three months after President Joe Biden traveled to Saudi Arabia, asking the kingdom to boost oil production to help decrease gas prices. In reaction, the White House's National Security Council coordinator John Kirby said that U.S. needs to become, quote, less dependent on OPEC and foreign nations.
Starting point is 00:00:38 In another statement, Kirby refuted speculation that America was behind the attack on the Nord Stream pipelines. That's just Russian propaganda and disinformation. Now we know it was an act of sabotage, but there's an investigation going on right now. I don't think we're going to get into credentialing that in terms of, you know, who is responsible. We're going to let the investigators take a look at that, but clearly this was an active sabotage.
Starting point is 00:01:00 The city council of Washington, D.C., voted 12. one this week to advance a bill that will allow illegal migrants to vote in future local elections. The bill will move ahead to an upcoming final vote before being sent to the mayor's desk. The Department of Justice announced in a press release this week that five former or current employees have each been charged with separate counts of wire fraud related to multiple federal COVID-Aid loan programs. The fraudulent loans ranged from $11,000 to more than $170,000. Due to Russia's war in Ukraine, European households and businesses will need to significantly reduce energy consumption in order to maintain reserves through the upcoming winter. That's according to the International Energy Agency.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Europeans are contending with energy prices that have increased as much as 20-fold in some countries. Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin and the family of the late Rust cinematographer Helena Hutchins have reached a settlement in the wrongful death suit against the actor and others. Baldwin denies culpability for the incident, but could still face criminal charges over the tragedy. I feel that there is, I feel that someone is responsible for what happened, and I can't say who that is, but I know it's not me. A two-year drought in Kenya has wiped out 2% of the world's rarest zebra species and increased elephant deaths as well, according to CNN. And it's officially Fat Bear Week hosted by the National Park Service. Individuals can vote online and choose their favorite fat bear from a selection of photos of officially tagged and recognized brown bears in Alaska.
Starting point is 00:02:35 Place your vote at fatbearweek.org. Well, those are your drive home updates this afternoon.
