Murdaugh Murders Podcast - TSP #90 - JP And Wayne Miller’s Churchy-Business Kingdom Crumbles With Jane Doe No. 2’s Abuse Allegations In New Lawsuit
Episode Date: March 6, 2025This week, investigative journalists — Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell — broke news that a second Jane Doe case had been filed against Myrtle Beach pastor John-Paul Miller, accusing him of sexual...ly abusing a 14-year-old student at Cathedral Hall Academy (formerly known as Grand Strand Academy), a school owned JP’s father Wayne Miller, who is named as a co-defendant in the case. In 1999, when JP Miller was 20 years old he allegedly molested the child after inviting her to play piano with him alone in the church sanctuary. The girl told a teacher about what JP allegedly did and instead of the school offering the child help, she was forced to write “I will not lie about JP Miller” 5,000 times. Mandy and Liz break down the latest allegations against the Millers and share text messages between JP, his ex-wife and Mica from 2022 or before that addresses the child sexual abuse allegations against JP. Also on the show, part one of the history of the Millers’ alleged scheme to use their school as a staging ground for abuse. Plus an update on the Justice for Mica protesters and JP’s frivolous lawsuits against them. I don't know how many more victims will come forward
with lawsuits accusing JP Miller and Wayne Miller of abuse,
but I know that their churchy business kingdom
is crumbling as we speak.
And I know that neither JP nor Wayne have ever faced
anything like the heat and sunlight
that is coming their way from these lawsuits.
And I love that for them.
My name is Mandi Matney. This is True Sunlight, a podcast exposing crime and corruption previously
known as the Murdoch Murders Podcast. True Sunlight is a Lunashark production written
with journalist Liz Farrell.
Hello and happy Thursday.
Well, we haven't been this busy or this energized in a long time, and I want to take a moment
to tell you about something that has been giving me a lot of hope right now.
Earlier this week, we visited the set of the Murdoch Murders Hulu show based off of our
reporting during the Murdoch Murders podcast era.
I got choked up and breathless as I walked around and thought about how I am just one
of a handful of journalists who, within a few years, went from a small town news reporter to an executive producer on a major
scripted series based on my own reporting. My jaw was on the floor as I looked around at literally
hundreds of busy crew members, buzzing between the lights, camera, and action. I've never experienced
art in slow motion like that and it was beautiful and the perfect way to start the week.
I love that now I get to wear my executive producer hat on some days and witness before
my own eyes just how much hard work pays off and I equally love that I get to use that
motivation in the stories that we are working on right now. It's a reminder, again,
that accuracy over access journalism pays off,
that ethical reporting pays off,
that peskiness pays off.
I'm grateful for every single one of you
who have made this a reality.
We wouldn't be here without our loyal listeners
who stuck with us from the very beginning
when we were
at our kitchen table.
Right now, I need a t-shirt that says ask me about our Hulu show because guys, I just
can't stop thinking about it.
And I've never been so excited and so proud to be a part of something like this.
The only thing that sucks about this amount of excitement raging inside me is that I can
only share so much information with y'all, because it's not up to me.
But I am allowed to generate hype, and y'all know me enough to trust me when I say that
this project will be well worth the anticipation.
And I know I'm biased, but I believe this is going to be one of the best Hollywood productions
in history,
based on a true crime story and podcast.
This weekend, I was honored to go to dinner with the brilliant actress
slash author slash director who is playing me in the Hulu show.
And while I can't say her name yet, I can tell y'all a few things.
One is that so many of you are going to squeal in excitement like I did when this is announced.
Two, I've been a fan of this actress' work for decades and weirdly, get this, she listened
to the podcast before she heard about this project.
Crazy.
Number three, the actress who is playing me is a mental health advocate who has a strong moral compass
and is going to be the perfect pesky reporter for this project.
Number four, we both agreed that this project is important not only for inspiring young women
to be pesky and stand up to the good old boys, but also to honor the many victims in this story
in a way that hasn't been
done before. And number five, I just have to say this, she is a big deal. Okay, okay, I don't mean
to tease, but I just want to let y'all know that we are so proud of this project that is set to air
on Hulu later this year, and we cannot wait to share more. I wanna give a huge shout out to co-creators,
Erin Lee Carr and Michael D. Fuller,
who have been hustling so hard this week,
now that the show is filming in Atlanta,
and I mean it when I say, y'all are the dream team.
It is so rare to find people in the industry
who we trust in the way that we trust Michael and Aaron
to tell this story.
So many people have contributed to bringing this project to life.
The number of hoops we jump through does not happen in a vacuum.
And from all reports, this needle does not get threaded.
This show does not happen without so many people
moving the needle perfectly.
This project does not happen without you, the listeners,
many of which are members
in our flourishing premium community.
Thank you for supporting our mission with your kind words,
your financial support,
your belief that our mission is worthy of your
time and attention, your hugs when I see you out and your presence holding up the banner
of justice for all victims we give a voice to.
This project does not happen without Blood on Their Hands, a book that I wrote with Carolyn
Murnik as it is also being used by the writers and actors as a reference for
filling in emotional and other key details within the script.
This project does not happen without Liz Farrell, without Cup of Justice co-host Eric Bland,
without Mark Tinsley, without Sandy Smith, and so many others who helped us give a voice
to victims along the way.
This project does not happen without David, who gets far too little sleep ensuring that
all of the operations of Lunashark are moving smoothly so that each episode publishes on
time that contracts we sign are mutually beneficial, including the unscripted projects we passed
on in this scripted project
that we brought to life.
This project does not happen without our team members over the years, like Ali Pavlich,
Beth Braden, Sam Berlin, Kate Thomas, Eric Allen, Jesse Garrett, and others we brought
on to help us manage the chaos in those Murdoch reporting years. Each of our collaborators has been instrumental in building our following, ensuring the reporting
is built on an unimpeachable factual foundation and publishing content for listeners, viewers,
and members across the globe. This project does not happen without the hundreds of wildly
talented cast and crew members who
are signing up for months of grueling schedules, early call times, and a monumental task that
we have entrusted to them.
To amplify the victims' stories, to get those stories straight, and to expose the emotional
truths beyond just the facts.
The list goes on and on, and we'll talk more about it as we get closer
to the show's premiere. All that said, I am truly honored to have you in our corner and I'm excited
to share more details as soon as I can. We are going to be back in Atlanta later this month
and next month and are looking for a place to organize a little shindig around March 23rd, so we can
share our appreciation with you.
These meetups provide us a chance to thank Lunashark Premium members and listeners in
person.
But this time, we're going to invite the cast and crew so we can properly thank them,
too.
We're looking for a fun, casual place that can hold a medium-sized group of people, that
offers food and drink, but also a super cool and welcoming vibe. looking for a fun, casual place that can hold a medium-sized group of people, that offers

Okay, so let's start out with some good news.
And that is that JP Miller's plan to silence his critics
into submission through frivolous lawsuits
in magistrate court continues to backfire.
And ooh, it got worse for him
and his churchy business bros this week.
In this week's Cup of Justice, we told you about JP's pastor disaster day in court last week,
where even with 40 so-called witnesses with him, he failed to prove to the court that three protesters
were harassing him in order to get restraining orders approved.
The next day, Wayne Miller and church member Christina Best
dropped their three remaining lawsuits
against protesters Melissa Pfeiffer,
Sandra Karen, and Ali Quozzo,
who were also the protesters who won in court last week.
Then on March 4th,
JP dropped four more of his lawsuits,
targeting Courtney Ann, Joe Coker, Alicia Hicks, and Bain Hicks.
As for the remaining lawsuits, the suits against Jeanette Williams Coker, Kyler Marlowe, Rob
Ridosti, and Maureen Ridosti are still active, and those remaining defendants appear to be
random.
The remaining lawsuits are listed in the Public Index as scheduled, but the cases do not appear
in the Magistrate Court dockets for any of its March dates.
In total, of the 34 lawsuits filed in Magistrate Court
since January, less than 10 of those lawsuits remain open.
And J.P. Miller could still face major consequences
for abuse of process.
Attorney Chris Helms, who is representing Tanya Hall, you know, the woman who allegedly
had nothing to do with JP protesting or any of this mess, filed a motion for sanctions
against JP, and that is currently scheduled for March 19th at 930 a.m.
Oh, and JP still faces a counter-sue
from protesters Melissa, Sandra, and Allie,
the protesters who were in charge of the GoFundMe
and have used that money to pay attorney Phil Quarry
to not only defend the protesters in court,
but to fight and hold JP to account
for abusing the legal system and to ensure
that he learns his lesson that
he can't get away with this in the future.
The protesters' counterclaim against JP is still in play, even though he tried twice
to settle in court with attorney Phil Corey.
And of course, they were like, nope.
JP still faces another counterclaim filed by former church member Sam Rickman
and his attorney Regina Ward.
But that's not even the best part of this.
The best part is that out of all of those legal losses,
all spurring from the very mess that he started,
none of those come close to the worst threat
looming over JPPMiller right now.
And that is powerhouse attorneys Randy Hood and Mark the Tiger Tinsley on his tail.
And those guys are just warming up.
Randy Hood and Mark Tinsley filed another explosive lawsuit this week, accusing JP Miller of sexually abusing a 14-year-old in 1999
while he was a quote-unquote teacher at Wayne Miller's Christian school. Now, I
know there is a lot in that sentence and yes, teacher is in air quotes because JP
was 20 years old at the time and the quote-unquote school was more of a sketchy, school-y business
that he himself says that he graduated from.
But we will get more into that in a minute.
What you need to know is this.
At the beginning of the year, JPMiller concocted a plan to silence protesters by filing dozens
of lawsuits against a random slew of people.
And that plan has backfired in the most spectacular of ways.
Not only has he lost those cases at every turn in the most remarkable and embarrassing
of ways, but J.P. Miller now faces two seasoned attorneys in two separate lawsuits who will not stop until Jane Doe 1, Jane Doe
2, and any others who come forward get justice.
Oh, and the FBI is still investigating JP Miller, according to multiple sources close
to the case.
Think about the type of pressure that Elick Murdoch was feeling in 2021 when Mark Tinsley
was suing him on behalf of the Beach family.
Remember how Mark would not let up when Elick refused to reveal his finances,
and he knew that Mark was onto him? That is the kind of pressure that J.P. Miller and his father
Wayne are in for. Serious pressure that few people on this planet can imagine.
If JP and Wayne Miller have any more secrets to hide,
Mark and Randy will find them and leave no stones unturned.
Which brings us to the lawsuit filed on Wednesday
against JP Miller, Wayne Miller, their churches,
and now we have a school added to the mix,
Cathedral Hall Academy, which was formerly known
as Grand Strand Academy.
We're going to start by going through all of the accusations
laid out in the complaint, which by the way,
could be triggering.
And then we will tell you what this means
and why this is such a big deal.
In 1999, Jane Doe II was 14 when her parents enrolled her at Cathedral Hall
Academy, a private Christian school run by Wayne and J.P. Miller, according to the lawsuit that
said J.P. and Wayne, quote, portrayed themselves as devout men of God, offering a faith-based
education in a nurturing environment. I'll have David read this next part directly from the lawsuit
to give y'all a real feel of this sketchy schoolie business
that they were allegedly operating.
Instead, Jane Doe II walked into a nightmare.
Cathedral Hall Academy was not a school, it was a trap.
There were no certified teachers,
no legitimate coursework, and no structured academics.
The classrooms were carved from a repurposed bowling alley,
their walls incomplete, their floors slick and uneven.
Many of the staff were simply members
of Wayne Miller's churches or colleges with no credentials,
no oversight, and in some cases, deeply questionable backgrounds.
What should have been a place of learning became a place of control, fear, and unchecked
abuse.
Within months, Jane Doe too became one of its victims. Of course, there is a
scammy school in this bottomless hellscape of a story. We haven't told
you in detail about the quote-unquote schools that Wayne Miller ran back in the
day, but put a pin in that because, whew,'s a lot more there. And there's a lot more to come on this lawsuit after a short break.
And we'll be right back. been disrespected. I remember hating that feeling, and I remember the day that I resolved
to never let it happen again. When I founded Bland Richter with my partner Ronnie Richter,
we committed to build a firm that demanded respect and that would fight the powerful
on behalf of clients who felt powerless. We stand tall against the largest law firms in
the state, the country, and the entire world, and we've remained true to the commitment not to be pushed around.
Tenacious representation, proven results.

According to the most recent lawsuit filed against J.P. Miller, one morning in 1999, 14-year-old Jane Doe,
number two, was asked to hold open the door to the church building as children left after chapel service.
When the last child ran out of the building, Jane Doe, number two, found herself alone
with one of the teachers, JP Miller,
who was seated at the piano and playing softly.
According to the lawsuit, JP Miller then asked
Jane Doe, number two, if she wanted to play,
and she saw no reason to decline.
But when she got up to leave,
JP allegedly pulled her into a hug,
and before she could react,
he then allegedly moved his
hands down her back, to her waist, under her clothing, touching her bare butt.
Horrible, right?
But then it gets worse.
Jane Doe number 2 says she told a teacher what JP had allegedly done to her and instead
of that teacher helping her, Jane says the teacher sent her to Wayne Miller's
office.
Wayne Miller.
You know, the man who allegedly fled Florence just a decade earlier because of a five-part
television series accusing him of sexually abusing Bible college students.
When Jane Doe No. 2 got to Wayne's office, JP Miller was already there according to the
lawsuit.
Here is David reading the next part of Jane Doe No. 2's lawsuit.
Listen carefully.
Wayne Miller demanded she repeat her accusation with his son standing beside him.
Jane Doe No. 2's voice wavered and she told the truth.
Wayne Miller did not ask for details.
He did not care.
He shouted at her, you will not lie about my son.
Then came her punishment.
She was forced to write the words, I will not lie about John Paul Miller 5,000 times.
Let me repeat that again.
Wayne Miller allegedly made a 14-year-old girl write,
I will not lie about John Paul Miller 5,000 times.
Again, 5,000 times.
This is alleged, but if it's true, it is something straight out of a bad parenting
101 playbook.
This is how monsters are made.
JP was around 20 years old at the time, so while he was absolutely old enough to know
better and old enough to face
accountability for his actions, we have to point out how much worse Wayne allegedly made
this situation.
JP could have learned an important lesson that day that could have changed his life
and so many others, including Micah's, but instead.
Wayne Miller added gasoline to JP's fire, and not only gave him the green light to continue
to allegedly abuse others with his position of power in the church, but he emboldened
JP by punishing the 14-year-old who told on him.
He sent a strong message to those around JP that there will be consequences for those
who cross him.
If those allegations are true, then it makes a lot of sense, right?
It makes sense that 25 years ago, JP Miller allegedly learned that whenever a person makes
an accusation about him, his father will be there
to not only blindly defend him without even attempting to investigate the claim, but his
father will use the power he has as a pastor to punish those who speak out against him
in any way.
If that did happen, it would make sense that 20 years later, that same man would have the
audacity to call the police like he's ordering pizza while he's under federal investigation,
for example.
And it would make sense that that same man, 20 years later, would file a gaggle of frivolous
lawsuits that clog up the courts and attempt to scare the internet into silence.
If that did happen, it would explain a whole lot about J.P. Miller.
And it makes my heart break all over again for Micah.
But back to the lawsuit.
After Jane Doe II was punished for telling on J.P., her life at school kept getting worse. Here is David
reading from Jane Doe 2's lawsuit. After that day, the torment escalated.
The students at the school, many from troubled backgrounds, took their cues from the Millers.
They turned on Plaintiff with full force, calling her a liar, a whore, and a slut.
They whispered behind her back, shoved notes under her desk, and made her life a daily
humiliation.
Then came the physical assaults.
The lawsuit said that in JP's quote-unquote so-called music class, two girls assaulted Jane, grabbing
her from behind, holding her arms back to rip open her shirt and stuff tissues in her
bra.
And when this happened, JP, the teacher, allegedly laughed.
Here is David again reading from Jane Doe II's lawsuit. Other times, boys and girls alike shoved her into bathroom stalls, slapped her, and yanked
her hair.
One student even held her down and sprayed bug spray into her mouth and eyes while others
watched.
Through it all, JPM was there, smirking, encouraging, watching.
RWM was no different.
One day he found her crying.
He told Jane Doe number two, stop disturbing the Lord's work and repent for your lies.
The message was clear.
No one would protect her."
According to the lawsuit, when Jane Doe II was in 9th grade, the abuse only escalated.
One day, JP allegedly cornered Jane Doe II alone in his classroom and told her that she
had failed the test, but if she stayed after class, he could fix it for her.
Jane Doe II stayed after class, according to the lawsuit, and sat down in a chair near
the piano.
Here is David reading from the lawsuit.
He started with small talk and asked, Did she like him?
And did she have a boyfriend?
His hand moved to her knee and she froze.
He leaned in further and said he could
protect her if she would let him. He then grabbed her and physically assaulted her by putting his
hands under her shirt and skirt and touching her sexually. She struggled to push him away,
but he was stronger and pushed her down. She finally broke free and sprinted for the door.
She ran down the hall and out of the school,
away from JPM.
When her mother finally found her walking down the road,
she did not say what had happened.
The lawsuit also details horrific
and heartbreaking psychological abuse
that Jane Doe II allegedly endured while
attending Wayne Miller's school. The horrors of Cathedral Hall Academy were
not just physical and sexual, they were psychological. When plaintiff brought a
Harry Potter book to school, Wayne Miller and JP Miller dragged her into the office. They berated her, called her a servant of Satan, and told her that if she continued
down this path, she would be raped by demons.
Then, right in front of her, they set the book on fire.
Wayne Miller then beat her with a Bible and poured water over her head. She was 16
years old. That was her final year at Cathedral Hall Academy.
According to the lawsuit, Jane Doe II, quote, repressed the memories of the abuse voiced
upon her by John Paul Miller and Wayne Miller. The lawsuit said, quote, as a direct result of the trauma inflicted by John Paul Miller
and Wayne Miller's assaults, plaintiff repressed memories of the abuse, preventing her from
fully recognizing the extent and impact of the harm she suffered.
Jane Doe II first began to process and recall the abuse in 2024,
following the widespread media coverage of Micah Miller's death, according to the lawsuit.
Here's David again reading directly from the lawsuit. Micah Miller's death triggered plaintiff's realization of the coercion, control, and
abuse she had endured at the hands of J.P. Miller and Wayne Miller.
It was only then that plaintiff was able to fully comprehend the nature of the assaults
by John Paul Miller and Wayne Miller and their lasting impact on her, making the accrual
of the Statute of Limitations begin at that time.
John Paul Miller and Wayne Miller's abuse and predatory behavior acts in 1998 through 2001
has caused plaintiffs severe and lasting harm.
We've told you before about the way we do our investigative reporting, at least when it comes to stories like this where it seems like there's always breaking news and dramatic
turns of events.
It's kind of like someone has told us that there's this big treasure chest somewhere
out there in the world, and that this treasure chest is filled with justice and actual accountability and consequences
for the good old boys, along with a sense of satisfaction for us that they didn't win
this time.
But there's one catch.
There's also no map on how to get to that treasure chest.
So we have to build the map ourselves, which we do over time through foyers and interviews and court records and tons of research and strategizing.
Plus all the brave unnamed sources behind the scenes who help us by providing us with important information for our map.
Because in the end, this journey is one that we're all on together. We're all so tired of watching the same deadly consequences
for women repeat itself over and over,
and we're sickened by the constant stream of examples
of women not being listened to
when it comes to the abuse they're experiencing.
And generally, I think it's safe to say
that we're all very much overseeing people get away
with bad acts simply because they can afford to pay their way out of it.
That said, every time we find a new piece of information to help us build that map, we make it a point to stop where we are and go back to the very beginning so we can retrace our steps and look at the terrain in a different light.
So needless to say, we did that after reading Jane Doe number 2's complaint.
We took a look at some of our old information and even though we're not exactly shocked
by this complaint because the writing really was on the wall, details we all already knew
about Wayne's and JP's lives are even more relevant now.
For instance, last week we reminded y'all about the affidavits from JP and Wayne's
first wives and the accusations
of sexual abuse at their churchy businesses, which includes the schools.
In Wayne's case, there were serious accusations of sexual harassment and assault coming from
his Bible college students, as you know, which again was the subject of a five-part investigative
series on a local TV station that ran twice.
The second time because Wayne was fighting
to get free land from the federal government
to build his churchy business and schools on.
And then with JP, there were accusations
of sexually molesting children at the church.
Something that he apparently referred to as dating,
according to a text message referenced
in the Jane Doe number two lawsuit.
When we looked back at the affidavits and other divorce
filings this week to see what new insight we might have now,
we were reminded of this.
In 2015, in a custody agreement with his first wife,
Allison Williams, with whom he had four children,
a custody agreement, by the way, that was still active
at the time of Micah's death, JP had
agreed to an arrangement that allowed
him to have his sons, who were around ages 15, 12, and 7 in 2015, stay with him overnight
every other weekend but prevented him from having overnight visits with his only daughter,
who was around 6 at the time the agreement was drawn up. In May 2024, when Allison sought an emergency suspension
of their custody agreement with family court,
because of Micah's death and JP's increasingly bizarre
and erratic behavior over the previous two years,
she included 14 very revealing exhibits for the court.
Remember the text that JP allegedly sent
from his daughter's phone to Micah,
pretending to be his daughter?
In her exhibits, Allison also included screenshots
of group text messages between Allison, JP, and Micah
from some time before JP and Allison's youngest child,
their only daughter, would be 13. So likely around 2022.
Both JP and Micah were trying to convince Allison to change her mind about the prohibition
against overnight stays for their daughter. Let's review those text messages again, shall we?
David will read the part of JP. I will read the part of Micah and Liz will
read the part of Allison. We're going to substitute any names for their corresponding generic nouns.
Allison, did you tell her daughter she can go on trips with you when she turns 13?
What we hope for and what we pray for is that there will be a heart change, seeing as I have never nor will ever
hurt one of my kids or put them in any situation that would hurt them.
You can continue to say no and you continue to think the way you do, but we can continue
to pray and hope.
We didn't ask you so there's no need to discuss it. But one day, if and when we do,
we would love to discuss it. Allison, hey, when you talk about it with our daughter,
it absolutely opens the discussion up for all of us. She can't have normal privileges because
you have committed terrible crimes of sexually molesting underage children. Praying for my heart to change is absolute gaslighting.
When you bring this topic up or if the children ask, I tell them the truth.
I will not cover up and lie.
I will continue to tell her the truth in an age-appropriate way.
That's nothing a mother wants to discuss, but when asked to, I tell the truth.
Sadly, this is the reality and we face it and deal with it.
If you don't want this discussed with our daughter,
then you shouldn't bring it up.
Or if she asks and is sad she misses out on vacations
and such, maybe you should take ownership and responsibility
for your actions, present or past, and own it.
Say it's your fault and move forward.
If you need or Michael wants to discuss this more, let's sit down and talk about it. Say it's your fault and move forward. If you need or Michael wants to
discuss this more, let's sit down and talk about it.
Number one, this has nothing to do with my own child. Number two, the fact that
our daughter is with me all the time from morning until night, there's no
difference between night to morning. She is with her dad. The time of day has no bearing,
but you can do as you want.
It is evil to remotely make a child think
that their parent would ever in a million years hurt them.
Allison, I don't.
I tell her the truth why you legally have lost privileges.
The truth isn't that I lost the privilege
because of legal mistakes. I don't lost the privilege because of legal mistakes.
I don't have the privilege because I signed a paper that you had me sign.
But you allowed our daughter to stay the night for a while.
And you can always allow it if you want to.
Because there is no difference in her with me in the day, afternoon, night, morning, etc.
But again, it's your decision per legal papers.
Allison, we can sit down and discuss this more in person.
I can show why legal papers were signed.
It was to avoid presenting affidavits from the minors you've molested.
Okay, thank you.
Micah, put simply, your oldest son
started choosing where he wanted to go at 13.
So we assumed your daughter would have that choice as well.
Didn't think the gender was an issue
since we get her on a regular basis with no fear of anything
happening to her.
Didn't mean to make a big fuss and bring up 20-year-old issues.
Allison, who says there's no fear?
This is not a 20-year-old issue.
Do you think those victims of his would say it's a 20-year-old issue?
Also, JP still displays continued poor character and puts our children in harmful situations.
Paying our son to take me to lunch to ask me
if he leaves you in the church, would I ever remarry him?
And being unfaithful to you and putting my child up
to be a middleman is a horrible situation
to put a child in.
Getting a job for our two oldest sons at a location
where their boss was one of JP's mistresses
is a horrible situation to put my children in,
especially since she had told a teenage coworker
she slept with her pastor before her wedding
and those kids could have told my children at any point.
That is absolutely putting my children
in harmful situations.
Also having our daughter around another woman's children
who was a former inappropriate relation is also a
Horrible situation to put my children in it is selfish and harmful and has no
consideration for how it would affect my children and all they have already been put through by him and honestly you too
He has shown his interest and scheme at hand are most important by doing those things.
This continued lack of character is harmful for all involved and I will not hide it or
pretend all is well when a finger gets pointed at me as though this is a possible misunderstanding
or overreaction.
I am peaceable, but will not tolerate any blame shifting and gaslighting intentional or unintentional.
Okay thanks.
Micah No one is pointing the finger at you saying
John Paul's actions are your fault.
However, what you heard about the boy's boss who says she slept with JP before her wedding
is not true.
I've done my due diligence.
As far as the woman you
say he had an inappropriate relationship with, I am aware of her transgressions.
Parentheses kiss, comma, pics. And John Paul's lack of guts to get rid of her sooner. I hope
this won't affect your opinion of her children.
So a lot of you have asked if Micah was aware of JP's alleged molestation of children.
Again, in February 2024, Micah told a police officer that JP had groomed her since she
was 15 years old.
And what she likely meant by that is that in her opinion, looking back, he had been
preparing her for a future sexual relationship with him.
And we don't know if they actually did have a sexual relationship back when Micah was
15 or a teenager, but JP has denied that they did and he has denied grooming her.
But from these texts, it obviously seems like Micah, who was also a victim of JP's alleged
ongoing course of control abuse, mind you, was aware of at least some of the allegations
against JP.
And I think from the way she referenced those allegations
as 20-year-old issues, that it's very likely
she had been well-trained on JP's narrative
and his point of view.
Anyway, I'll say it again.
Go off, Allison, because that is some pure-hearted
mama bear energy right there.
Always protect children.
We don't know Allison, but if there is a hero in the story, it is her.
She paved the way to help make it safer for former church members and students to come
forward and make their allegations against JP.
And seriously, the way she disarmed JP in those texts while maintaining decorum?
Chef's kiss.
That is the way to handle an alleged narcissist.
I hope Allison Williams writes a book one day.
Okay, so one, JP wasn't allowed to have overnight visits with his daughter because his ex-wife
did not trust him having unsupervised time with female children.
And JP signed off on that not
because Alison made him but because he likely had to. Because here's the thing
and I know this is confusing for some people and especially those who are
willfully ignorant. When you're a survivor of childhood sexual violence of
a life-altering trauma and you have attempted to tell the authorities like Jane Doe, number
two, did, and it results in further misery and abuse.
Or if you attempt to confront your abuser later in life, only to be told what you know
happened to you didn't happen to you, and you're told that you're crazy or a liar or
misremembering things, then you, as a person who has received the message loud
and clear that your truth isn't real and that remaining silent is the only way to survive
for now, you, as a human being with a body and a brain that are preternaturally programmed
to go into fight, flight, or freeze mode, might subconsciously send those memories back into the repression folder in your
head because you have been re-abused in that moment. You have been re-traumatized by the
subsequent abuse and gaslighting. You are back where you started. And accused abusers rely on
that. When it comes to being sued or being held accountable, accused abusers will of course hold tight to every regressive,
societal belief and protective law that supports the malevolent and misogynistic philosophy that
sexual violence isn't a big deal or to the extent that it is a big deal, then the victim is probably
lying about it and her repressed memory shouldn't be used against the accused abuser. But let's be
real about it. Accused abusers love repressed memories
because memories that are being repressed
are a reprieve for the accused abuser.
It buys them time, possibly forever.
It allows them to go unpunished, possibly forever.
It means they might just get away with it,
which they might even consider their birthright.
Anyway, back to those legal papers
that JP says Allison forced him to sign for no reason.
Like we said, JP signed them because he likely had to,
because as an accused abuser,
he would have wanted to keep his accuser's memories
safe and sound in their repression chambers.
Now, we don't know whether the accusers
that Allison mentions in these
texts are any of the Jane Doe's who have filed complaints so far. And we don't know
if these affidavits even existed or if she was referencing their possibility of
existing. Meaning, had JP started to fight her on the no overnights clause, she
would have tried to seek out the rumored victims to have them testify to what JP
allegedly did. But did you notice something pretty significant in all of those messages?
Now, from the day we were all introduced to John Paul Miller, he has denied everything
he has ever been accused of doing to my good, and to pretty much everybody ever.
We've seen him lie, we've seen him redirect a narrative and create one from scratch to
suit his needs, but what we didn't see in that text exchange is any of that.
He didn't deny what Alison was accusing him of doing. In fact,
he says this has nothing to do with my own child.
Is he saying he wouldn't do what Alison is accusing him of doing,
which is sexually molesting other people's children, to his own offspring.
Because that is what it sounds like in our opinions.
Okay, two more revisits.
The first, Allison was also pretty explicit about what she thought of Orwayne Miller,
the man who pleaded guilty to federal charges related to basically enslaving foreign students
through his Bible college in 2014, and nonetheless continues to deny his guilt.
The man who pleaded guilty to soliciting an undercover male police officer in a Myrtle Beach
bathhouse in 2006 but who continues to deny he did that. The guy who was so angry that a TV station
re-aired a series reporting on sexual abuse allegations made
against him by his Bible college students that he threatened the TV station's employees
that they would pay for it.
In a 1996 letter to the TV station, Wayne wrote this, quote, maybe sickness, loss of
a loved one, something mortally painful, but it will come back to you.
It will come back to the one who prompted your reporter
to do a number on Wayne Miller.
In their 2015 custody agreement,
JP and Allison also agreed to the following,
quote, the parties agree that husband is not
to have the minor children in Wayne Miller's presence
unless wife is also present and consents to the same.
Again, as of May 2024, that agreement was still in place.
In 2024, Allison asked the court to issue an order restraining JP from exposing the
children to their paternal grandfather Wayne Wayne Miller, in any capacity,
both pendente lite and permanently.
So no overnight visits with his daughter for JP,
and no unsupervised visits with any of the young grandkids
for Wayne, and JP is not considered a safe supervisor
of such a visit.
An update, can you make it so JP can't bring his father
around our kids ever?
Forever and ever? Got it. This must have sounded familiar to JP and Wayne because 17 years earlier,
JP and the mother of JP's first son had this in their custody agreement in 1998,
the same year that JP is accused of raping a 15-year-old child. Here's David.
that JP is accused of raping a 15-year-old child. Here's David.
up the child from preschool or school without prior consent of the mother. In other words, and I assume this was a compromise, this 19-year-old mother had to put it in writing
that she would seriously consider sending her son to Wayne's school for his entire
academic career? That's how strongly JP and his family wanted that kid to go to Wayne's
school? And how strongly SHE didn't.
They had to memorialize it in a legal document and force her to seriously consider changing
her mind.
It's unclear whether JP's first son ever attended Wayne's school, but at the time
of this custody agreement, he was not.
That's how important that school was to Wayne and his ego, and I know it sounds like
I'm jumping to conclusions, but, uh, no.
Now it's time to talk about that school.
More on that in a minute.
We will be right back.
So first, there is a lot to dive into with Wayne Miller schools and we're not going
to get to everything we know at this point today.
Also, there are a lot of rabbit holes to go down here and believe me when I say
we already have the flashlights on our heads,
our lunches in our buckets and we are carrying a cage canary because we are
going to go subterranean with this one. Now we all know about,
and the lawsuit takes great care to point this out.
Wayne's history in Florence and the big rebranding he did
in 1993 when he and his family fled to Myrtle Beach
so he could start up his churchy businesses there.
What we love about Randy Hood
and this phenomenally written lawsuit
is that it connects the dots in a way
that really clarifies who Wayne Miller is,
in our opinions anyway.
Here's David.
Upon arriving in Myrtle Beach, Wayne Miller rebranded his organization as Cathedral Baptist Church,
attempting to dissociate from the tarnished reputation he had left behind in Florence.
This rebranding effort was designed to obscure past allegations while providing a fresh foundation to continue expanding
his religious and educational enterprises. Under this new identity, he sought to establish a new
campus that would house his church, school, and Bible college, each of which played a critical
role in sustaining his operations and furthering
his financial and personal interests. In furtherance of this expansion, Wayne Miller acquired the
former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base Chapel in 1995. This strategic acquisition was not merely an effort to secure a new place of worship, but was
a calculated move to utilize federal programs designed to incentivize educational institutions
relocating to closed military sites.
The lawsuit goes on to say that Wayne, quote, exploited government's incentives to acquire
valuable property at a significantly reduced cost, all under the pretense of providing
legitimate educational opportunities to the community.
In other words, the lawsuit is accusing Wayne Miller of using the creation of this school,
which the complaint says was falsely advertised as a quote, high quality
educational facility with a focus on academic excellence and the well being of its students
as part of a bigger scheme to quote, exert control over students and faculty while leveraging
the institution for financial gain.
I apologize for how cynical this is about to sound. And for our church going listeners, this is not an indictment on all churches out there,
but this isn't unique.
JP Miller and his father were not only soliciting weekly donations of 10% of their congregation's
income.
They were using public assets to further enrich themselves.
Because again, it's a business and it's really
important for members of churches to pay attention to where the money is going. Of course, Wayne and
JP would both likely save this money and this property were blessings from God that only helped
fund their mission to serve people. We will get into those missions in a future episode.
I want to share a few tidbits from the time of Wayne's angry and loud and calamitous
efforts to get federal property for free.
So at the same time, Wayne Miller was re-establishing himself in Myrtle Beach.
The Myrtle Beach Air Force Base was closing.
In 1939, Myrtle Beach, which is a city, but back then it was a town, bought 135 acres to open
a municipal airport, which they did with the heavy financial support of the federal government.
But in 1940, the Army Air Corps began using the property to train pilots.
Within two years, the US War Department had purchased the airport land and more than 6,500
acres surrounding it and began turning it into a formal base,
which earned the nickname Splinter City because many of the structures built on the base were
built with wood.
Fun fact, the base housed German prisoners of war during World War II.
Back to the 1990s, the land was first returned to the city of Myrtle Beach and the airport
was run by Horry County according to online accounts of the land's redevelopment.
The question of what this land would be used for was a contentious one and sometimes went
the way of absurdity.
According to VisitMyrtleBeach.com, at one point there was a rumor that Michael Jackson
wanted to open an amusement park there, which don't let me say what I want to say
here.
I am not doing it.
Now, the closing of the base had an economic impact.
According to online resources, it meant losing 5,000 jobs, which obviously affected the housing
market, the schools, tax income for the state, county and city.
And there was a lot of thought about how to rebuild in a way that would help the area
thrive.
Redevelopment authority was created in 1994, and in summer 1995, a retired Air Force Colonel
was put in charge of it.
From the start, a line began to form.
Immediately, in 1993, Wayne Miller, newly on the scene in Myrtle Beach, and on behalf
of his school, Cathedral Bible College, put in a request for the air bases chapel through the Department of
Education. In 1994 a task force that advocated for the unhoused put together
an application for a piece of property. That application included a request from
a state youth group for an emergency shelter, a community action group looking
to build 46 houses for
people who didn't have houses, the city housing authority wanting to build 25 housing
units for families and children, and Wayne Miller of Cathedral Bible College who wanted
to build a dormitory, quote, for use as a transitional shelter and the old base post
office for job training
and employment services.
Sure, Jan.
In February 1995, the Air Force began accepting bids on the chapel the Cathedral Bible had
requested through the Department of Education.
And Wayne was not happy that the local newspaper reported that there had been no formal request
for it.
In a letter to the editor, Wayne wrote, quote, since that request of 1993, the senior chaplain
of the Air Force received a request from the lieutenant governor and numerous other officials
to give that chapel to Cathedral Bible College.
Get that?
Wayne was telling Myrtle Beach
that he had some powerful people behind him
saying that he should get that property for free.
In the letter, Wayne continued.
He said that his Bible college,
which this is something notable that we keep seeing,
Wayne always seems to be careful
about how he refers
to his church and schools.
They're his when he needs them to be,
to show power over others,
and they're a the, a standalone party,
when he needs to sound like he's a mere representative
of an institution.
Anyway, Wayne tells the paper that the Bible College made an
offer to purchase or lease the chapel and says the school and church will offer a sealed bid
for the property. Then he points out that pieces of the land were given to a community golf course
and rec center for free and then ends on a manipulative, sad sack note like, guess the chapel will have to bring
in revenue to the Air Force because the religious community has to outbid each other for the
chapel.
At this time, Wayne's church was using a storefront.
Soon after this letter went to the editor, the church secured a purchase agreement for
the chapel and more than two acres for $280,000.
And they began moving into the building in late July 1995.
Immediately after moving, Wayne began offering an evening vacation Bible school called Kids
Crusade.
In an August 1995 story, a regional centerpiece
featuring pictures of children attending the church,
Wayne said he wasn't done and that he planned
to get an additional 10 to 15 acres
and seven empty dormitories and recreational buildings
behind the chapel to use them
as a campus for the Bible college.
In the end,
he made a run at getting 22 acres for free. Now, at this time, Wayne was running weekly
ads in the paper for his church and the various events at it. And the church seemed to be
interchangeably called Cathedral Baptist Church and also Grand Strand Cathedral Church. Then it gets spicy.
In May 1996, the Myrtle Beach Sun News wrote a story with the headline,
School is Irrate Over Air Force Base Land. Denied Request for Space has Bible College fuming.
And Wayne comes off as a straight up cartoon
villain here, promising he'll be back. You'll see. Literally, this is Wayne's first quote
in the story. This is not the end of it. In subsequent coverage, it was often noted that
Wayne had threatened opponents of his plan that quote, God will punish them for interfering.
Wayne was denied the property because the redevelopment authority was like, my man,
this is valuable land that's very marketable and we have an opportunity to, I don't know,
create a bunch of jobs here.
Wayne said that federal officials and former governor Carol Campbell had led him to believe
that he would get the land for free.
Of course, the paper doesn't back that up other than to attribute it to Wayne.
There's no evidence that the reporter asked for proof of this.
There's no evidence of a call to the former governor to verify.
Although the head of the authority is quoted as saying, nobody ever promised him any land.
The authority did, however, offer to sell the property to Wayne or allow him to rent the property for three years at one-third of the property's value,
to which Wayne said, that's a ridiculous offer. At this point in time, the Bible College
and Grand Strand Academy, which later became Cathedral Hall Academy, were operating out
of the chapel and the basis's theater and bowling alley,
according to the paper. A story published a year after this noting that Wayne was leasing
those two properties from the redevelopment authority for free. Quote, Grand Strand Academy
is unaccredited and most class credits earned at Cathedral Bible College will only transfer
to other theological schools. According to the paper,
Wayne said the schools had a combined enrollment of 170 students but then qualified that number
by saying that some of the students actually attended their classes at so-called extension
schools in Florence and Charleston. Wayne told the paper that his campus had grown so much in the past year that he was holding classes in an old school bus parked behind the chapel. Am I the only one who thinks that sounds a
little shady? The story ended with the head of the redevelopment authority saying he doubted
Wayne's threats would have any effect on the authority's plans moving forward. A month
later is when WPDETV re-aired its expose on Wayne Miller and the sexual abuse
allegations against him from eight years earlier.
In July of that year, a man named Bobby Hunt wrote a letter to the editor that started
with,
Being a former altar boy, I can only thank God, country, and the Air Force that
Wayne Miller's land grab has been stifled.
Give a Bible-beating deacon 50 yards and he wants the whole football field.
Give him free.
No charge.
No taxes.
Wayne Miller states that, quote, kings rise and fall and so do authorities.
Could he be comparing himself to King Henry VIII, a king who rose to power and founded
the Church of England?
In the early years of that church, it stole acres of land from Suffolk to Berkshire and
down to Hampshire, all in the name of King and Church.
Despite the pushback, Wayne did not give up.
According to a Sunnew story, in May 1997, the federal government had questions about
Grand Strand Academy and the Bible College, and whether the schools would even qualify
to get free baseland under a federal program meant for nonprofits that
provide services to the community at large and not just to members of one church.
At this point in time, the authority had forced Wayne to trim his request from 22 acres down
to two acres and two buildings.
According to the story, a spokesman for the US Department of Education said the government
had questions because the schools had given them, quote, vague information about their financial status and educational programs.
He said, quote, I think they were under the impression that what they submitted originally
was satisfactory.
I would prefer clearer information and to see further details about what they proposed
to do.
Wayne, of course, told the paper that he had given the government everything they'd asked
for. And the paper listed the problems with Wayne's
application. For one, there were no audited financial figures to prove that
they could renovate the theater and bowling alley. Wayne was already on the
record as saying that he didn't have an accounting firm look into their
finances because it's too expensive to do that. The school also hadn't shown
that it would be sustainable
for the next 30 years.
Here's a fun quote from the government spokesman.
"'If they run into financial difficulties
two or three years from now,
we all have some very serious legal problems.'"
Also a problem?
The school was not accredited by the state
or federal governments,
and its, quote, certificate of accreditation
came from a group
called Accrediting Commission International, which has been called fake, substandard and
meaningless by other states.
The subject of lawsuits and even rejected for not meeting the credit transfer standards
were a South Carolina diploma.
This lack of accreditation didn't make it impossible, though, for Wayne to get the property,
but he would be required to pay 20% of the value of the land, and he hadn't even proven
that he could afford that.
Even though Wayne told the paper that, quote, the schools have enough money, which is confusing
because he said that it was too expensive to get the audited financial figures.
The government also said that it was concerned about for-profit enterprises operating on
the property should they transfer to Wayne.
Quote, a general idea of what they want to do is not good enough, the Department of Education
said.
In July 1997, Wayne was approved to buy the land for 20% of what was a reduced value because
of the school's lack of accreditation.
According to a report at the time, it would cost the church around $50,000 to secure the
property.
Wayne told a news reporter at the time that he planned to appeal the ruling to get a better
deal. He is also quoted as saying that the school in Bible College owned about $1.5 million
of property near the I-95 interchange in Florence and could use that to help finance the deal.
Um, what?
Didn't he say he couldn't provide a thorough financial report to the government, which wanted it to determine if he qualified for the program to get the land
because having an accountant costs too much money?
Interesting math, Wayne.
Did you teach that to yourself at one of your unaccredited schools?
Anyway, Wayne told a paper that he expected the schools
to have a combined 300 students
that fall.
A letter to the editor ran a few months later from a woman named Shirley Kirby who said
she didn't want public money going to Wayne's projects.
She couldn't believe the government was even entertaining the deal.
If he wants to have an operation such as this, then he should be required to pay the full amount
for the property the same as any other business.
In the meantime, Wayne kept running weekly ads
touting both the church and Grand Strand Academy.
All of this was going on the year before JP
is accused of raping Jane Doe number one
in two years before he is accused of raping Jane Doe number 1 in two years before
he was accused of sexually assaulting Jane Doe number 2.
And a reminder, both Janes were children at the time.
I want to leave you with this.
According to court records we've read and other sources, Wayne really did seem to see the Academy as another extension of his ego,
which we'll get into in a future episode. But just think about what that ego must have been
like back then. He was run out of town because of sexual assault allegations. He was the subject
of a multi-part news series on a local TV station.
From where we sit, it looks like Wayne, a man who likely instructed his flock to be
humble and take stock of their moral failings, couldn't be bothered to follow his own advice.
Instead, he seemed to double down, as good old boys do, and got louder, angrier, and
even more entitled.
He wasn't hiding, he was out there, on the cover of newspaper sections, asking for handouts,
threatening the wrath of God as if he was God's boss to anyone who dared to question
him or withhold whatever he wanted, acting under the guise of an entity that provided a service,
help to the community he set up shop in.
And in the meantime, according to these two lawsuits,
two children, two girls whose lives
had not even had a chance to start,
whose families trusted Wayne and the church
because he told
them they could.
They were suffering.
Because in a world like Wayne and JP Miller's, there are only two people who matter.
The father and the son.
There have now been two lawsuits filed against the Millers in their churchy businesses, which brings the total of child sex abuse allegations against JP Miller to three.
Ten months ago, a former church member posted allegations against JP Miller, including that
he had a sexual relationship with her when he was an adult and she was just 15 years
old.
We're being told that more allegations are expected.
This doesn't even count the allegations contained in Micah's list, where JP is alleged to have
raped Micah in her hospital bed during one of her stays.
Like I said, JP is about to face heat and sunlight from these lawsuits like he's never
seen before. Oh, and since JP began his crusade to silence the protesters outside of his church, ironically
and beautifully, the protests have only gotten bigger, and the chants are not only demanding
justice for Micah, they're demanding justice for Jane Doe too.
They are demanding justice for all Jane Does.
If you or someone you know attended Cathedral Baptist Church,
Cathedral Bible College, Grand Strand Academy, Cathedral Hall Academy, or any of the Miller's
church entities, and you or someone you know have information that might be important to Jane Doe 1
and Jane Doe 2's pursuit of justice, please contact
attorney Randy Hood through his law firm McGowan, Hood, Felder & Phillips by calling 855-720-0258,
which is answered 24-7.
