Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm investigative reporter Melissa Jeltson. For four seasons, I've been telling the stories of women whose lives and deaths were caught up in a series of systemic and cultural failures. If that was my friend, I would be flipping over rocks trying to find her. I'd call the National Guard. I would be out there. You can put any damn thing you want down. That doesn't mean that happened that way. What happened to her is unknown. And that's something that I need to know.
Starting point is 00:00:31 Now, I'm going wider. In my new show, what happened to her, I bring you new stories every week. Stories about women whose deaths were too quickly ruled a suicide. You're not going to kill yourself in the middle of doing laundry. Stories about women, no one believed. We were feeling some guilt. We were feeling like did we overstep.
Starting point is 00:00:55 Then we would have these discussions about like, wait a minute, we did the right thing. Cases that everyone else called closed. I was like, how? How can it be? They can't convict her, right? Like, she has so much evidence. And the people who gave everything to get an answer. It's taken my whole life. It's all I ever think about, but we only have one shot at it. Every one of these stories starts in the same place, with a woman failed by a system that didn't believe her, that didn't protect her, that didn't see her.
Starting point is 00:01:30 No child should ever experience that. And we were babies. We were babies. She did all of these brave things and came out and spoke about it and he got a year. You never know who that devil is because he's wearing in disguise. Sometimes it's a police uniform. Listen to what happened to her starting on September 17th on the IHart Radio app, Apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
