Luckily I don't have to talk the whole time like you. Yeah, I guess when you just show up and be yourself you have time to eat hot tamales huh? I deserve it I just worked my butt off at the gym got myself a little snack. Yes my cheat snack usually is hot tamales. You can eat a lot of them and they're low calorie. We went to Dutch Bros today and Garrett was like, look, I found this new drink that's only 40 calories. Couldn't be me. Me and my 800 calorie drink. Don't, I'm not that person.

Okay, I'm that person right now, but that's only because- He's cutting. I'm cutting right now, okay? Trying to shed some pounds. And so I'm gonna go on like a two month cut. And listen, I don't care what you do. I don't, that's just what what you do. I don't.

That's just what I'm doing. I don't like talk about calorie stuff. By the end of the day, if I wanna lose weight and cut, it's calories in versus calories out. It is what it is. That's what I'm doing. Everyone's updated. That's what I have.

I was on a phone call on hold with the power company and it was taking a long time.

I had been on hold in the car. I've been on hold at the gym. I just kept it open cause they told me to be a long time. Got back in the car, I've been on hold at the gym. I just kept it open because they told me it'd be a long time. Got back in the car, drove back home, nothing yet. And I went, oh, I'm gonna go pee real quick. Like what are the chances that they finally answer and I'm off hold while I'm going pee? Literally mid-pee. She's like, hey, how can I help you?

I didn't know what else to do so I just unmuted it while I was peeing and I said hey, my first name is Garrett, my last name is Marlind and I'd muted it again. Then I got quiet for a second, I finished peeing and she just kind of kept going with her regular conversation but for sure she heard me. But I don't know, maybe she thought it was just the water running on the sink, I don't know what she thought it was. That's my 10 seconds. Just thought that I would share that experience with all of you.

Yeah. What do you think about that, babe? Kind of nuts, right? That is traumatizing for her. That would traumatize me. I don't know what else to do. I had been on hold for a long time and I said, I do not care. I'm not missing this. I'm not missing this.

I mean, yeah, you did what you had to do. I did what I had to do. I can't believe you have just made a little pocket for those hot tamales in your belly right now and are eating them. They're good. It puts a lot of pressure on us to fake that sort of existence, to portray to our followers that we live in these perfect little worlds where nothing ever goes wrong. When in reality, a lot of these influencers that make us feel that way do have their own

problems just like the rest of us. Their houses do get dirty, they do have bad hair days, and they do fight with their partners. And some of them have even bigger skeletons in their closets. But you have to wonder, what dark secrets are those fake lives covering up. Because sometimes the harder people try, the more they have to hide. And in the case of today's story, the truth was so dark, the life that wasn't online, it actually led to murder. So let me take you back to the 1990s when bands like the Spice Girls, Boyz II Men, and TLC were all the rage. I mean, Beanie Babies were flying off the shelves.

This is where early internet chat rooms and AOL instant messenger were the cornerstone to any kids after school social life. And this was the era Christian Obumseli grew up in. Born on April 12th, 1994 in Dallas, Texas, Christian, who actually went by the nickname Toby, became the youngest son in a pretty large family. And from an early age, it was clear there was something captivating about Toby. Not only did he have a smile that would light up any room, Toby had the unique gift of being able to bring levity and positivity to any difficult situation. He was the kind of guy you wanted by your side when life just wasn't going your way. And that infectious attitude was really what made him so popular growing up.

At Plano East Senior High School, Toby became a star linebacker on the football team. And it even won him a scholarship to Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. And with his bright eyes and his tall athletic build, he was definitely popular with the ladies. He was the kind of person who made any situation a party. But Toby was way more than just some jock

who knew how to have a good time. He wanted to see the world. He had a deep desire to travel. He was curious about meeting new people and experiencing new things. And he was extremely generous and giving. He would go to the ends of the world for the people he cared about, which in 2020 included a new love interest that had just entered his life. It was a woman named Courtney Clenny. Now, it was the spring of 2020

when Toby spotted Courtney at a party. She was a gorgeous blonde with bright blue eyes. Nobody could blame the 26 year old Toby for taking an interest in this 24 year old bombshell. Now, sources differ on where they actually met. Some said it was at a social media event in Las Vegas. Others say it was Tulum, Mexico. That Courtney was there with a few friends on a work trip

when she was introduced to Toby. And when the bubbly Courtney asked Toby what he did for a living, he was honest. He said, hey, it's 2020. I'm out of work. It has been a hard year. He'd recently been laid off from his job, but was exploring a career in cryptocurrency

and stock management. Oh no. I, okay. Okay, and I just want everyone to get a picture. Like when I say bombshell, I'm using that word stereotypically as in like, she's a blonde, just Kim Kardashian, like big cannons, blonde hair. Yes. Yeah. She's got all

not sure if I'm allowed to say that, but I said it. She's got all the rage nowadays, maybe you got all the rage nowadays. Babe, you got all the rage. Thank you, but I don't. But you do. So when she asked him where he was currently living, he told her Austin, Texas, which was a pretty big coincidence because that was exactly where Courtney was living too. So whether you want to call it fate, destiny, or bad luck,

it seemed inevitable that the two would see each other again. And when they returned home, that's exactly what happened. Courtney and Toby fell hard and fast for one another, especially with it being in the middle of the pandemic. We know how quickly some relationships moved during that time. It was pretty make-or-break and for a while it really seemed like Toby and Courtney were going to make it. Like they were in it for the long haul, particularly because Toby was really supportive of Courtney, her aspirations and her maybe slightly controversial career because in 2020, Courtney had made a full-time job

out of being an OnlyFans model. So if you don't know what OnlyFans is, it is basically a social media platform where you have to pay to access other people's content. You can message and interact with that person. You can request certain types of content from them, that sort of thing. Usually sexual content. I will say a lot of the content on OnlyFans, not all of it, but a lot of it is sexually explicit and this included Courtney's account.

And no, Peyton and I are not on OnlyFans for those wondering. And frankly, Courtney knew how to work the platform well, meaning she had plenty of loyal followers and paying customers. She was really good at keeping up her engagement on the site, she was always interacting with her fans. She got to know many of them on a personal level, just like they'd gotten to know her. And Toby was a great match for her, mainly because he was so supportive of this career that she had built for herself.

But Courtney didn't always dream of being some internet celebrity. She was born in 1996 to wealthy parents in Texas. And Courtney was actually a really ambitious athlete in her early years. She did everything from volleyball to basketball to diving, you name it. Courtney probably mastered it

or at least tried out for the team. But when Courtney reached high school, she realized that her looks actually got her a pretty good amount of attention that she wanted. She began focusing a lot of her time and energy on her appearance. She hired a personal trainer. She worked out every single day after school.

And when Instagram launched in 2010, Courtney jumped on the bandwagon immediately. So she was actually in the early wave of people who realized that there was a lot of money to be made for posting your pretty face on social media. And she started following other early influencers leads. So she's, she saw the money before a lot of us did. She found her niche by posting fitness and healthy living videos. And as her following grew, so did her brand deals. And in 2015, when Courtney was just 19 years old,

she was actually approached by Playboy to be part of a feature on up and coming influencers. And Courtney said yes to the opportunity, which only gave her more of a boost. It also exposed her to a brand new audience that she hadn't quite reached. So just three months after the Playboy thing came out, keep in mind, this is 2015. Courtney had hit 1 million followers on Instagram. Wow, that's actually pretty insane. That is like huge level influencer at that time. Frankly,

I mean, this is a pretty big deal and I think it's safe to say that Courtney knew what she was doing. She had made a full-time job out of early influencing, which believe it or not was a lot of work for her because she was shooting and posting fresh new content every single day. She was interacting with her followers,

answering DMs, boosting her fan base. I also don't know, I mean, yeah, she had a lot of followers, but social media marketing and influencers in general, the money, 2014 is way different than the money in 2022, 2023, 2021. But also starting back then meant you're probably getting paid more if you were able to keep up with it at this point, because it was easier to build a following then.

I mean, celebrities hire social media teams to do all of this, but Courtney was a one-man operation and it paid off because before Courtney had even hit her 20s, she was making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year off of influencing. And then OnlyFans launched in 2016 and she saw a brand new way to boost her income by jumping on that bandwagon early.

Wow, I didn't know about OnlyFans until like two years ago. I mean, I think Courtney just saw things before other people did. And so Courtney's content at this point becomes edgier. She gets more explicit and it is well worth it for her because Courtney was now living the life that she'd always dreamed of. She was flying all over the world for photo shoots, she was going on yachts, she was partying, she was living life in the fast lane. But there was also

a downside to some of this. Courtney had her fair share of online stalkers, people who purchased her content. She created a relationship and they real, they forgot that this relationship was parasocial. Yeah. Um, that this was her job and it was content for her, but they. Fell in love with her. They would harass her. And sometimes she even felt pressure to give into the

demands from her fans online. But when Toby came into the picture in 2020, a lot of that seemed to change because she now had someone who supported her, who could protect her, who could say no, you don't need to do that. That's, that's not normal. Um, and he also could enjoy things alongside her. And so the relationship became mutually beneficial. or peak season travel with no points hike. So with Toby being laid off from his job, he kind of sort of took on a role with Courtney's business where he would help her film and capture her content.

He would assist her with managing her accounts. And in return, Toby got to enjoy all the finer things in life that Courtney was buying and receiving for him. So in January of 2022, the couple had been together for two years and they decided to move together from Texas to Miami, Florida, since the scene was more fitting for influencers like Courtney. So she rented them a $10,000 a month condo on the 22nd floor with a balcony that overlooked the ocean.

And with a $40,000 deposit, the all glass condo by the sea became what many thought was the couple's little love nest. Oh my gosh, $40,000 deposit? Toby and Courtney began attending more social media events. They met other influencers that Courtney could collaborate with. They rented Lamborghinis.

They dined out at expensive restaurants. To Courtney's followers, it probably looked like her life with Toby was an absolute dream come true. Social media, man, social media. By 2022, Courtney was easily making seven figures a year from social media. And while Toby had always taken a more behind the scenes role. She had recently convinced him to join her in front of the camera for some of her only fans content, which is typical. There are a lot of couples who create content together on only fans. And some of their friends were

like, no, Toby and Courtney are the real deal. Like they might be making content, but they are definitely on their path to marriage and kids. They were a power couple. But three months after moving to Miami, this dream life that they had portrayed on social media. All comes crashing down. You literally just said my next sentence. I've been here for four years. Came crashing down.

At around 5 p.m. on April 3rd, 2022, 911 received a frantic call from a woman. She gave them the address of her condo, but that's about all she could get into words before she hung up the phone. So she basically calls 911, gives the address, hangs up. Minutes later, police are rushing off the elevator

towards Courtney's condo. And there's actually body cam footage from the police where they walk in and you can hear Courtney screaming, baby, baby, get up, get up. And when police finally get inside, they find that the condo is a disaster. There is stuff thrown everywhere. It looks like there has been a massive struggle. And when they find Courtney, she is alongside a wall, completely drenched in blood. And just a few feet away from her is Toby, and he has a single stab wound to his chest. Oh my gosh. All right, here we go.

As EMTs rush Toby off to the hospital, Courtney is crying out to them, is he dead? Is he dead? And then shortly after, Courtney is taken down to the police station for questioning. And there are a few things that police learn right off the bat. For starters, the front desk attendant at the condo says

around 4.45 p.m., about 15 minutes before Courtney dialed 911, she or her apartment had been getting some noise complaints. Apparently, Courtney's neighbors reported that they heard the couple fighting in the condo. Now, the front desk attendant didn't call the police herself. She sent security up. I mean, that's what they have this for when they receive a noise complaint. And security said around 4.58, this is right before Courtney dialed 911 herself, they actually saw Courtney open the door to her unit and step out covered in blood.

They also said her dogs were covered in blood as well. And that's her actual dogs, not her toes. And that Toby was on the floor inside the apartment, unconscious. Now it's not clear if they also called the police after this, but you do have to wonder if they had security called the police, could all of this been avoided?

Well, down at police headquarters, detectives try to get the full story out of Courtney. And here's what she tells them initially. Around 1.15 p.m. that afternoon, Toby left the condo. And then he came back around 4.32 p.m. with Subway sandwiches for them. Now Courtney was on the phone with her mother when she and Toby began having an argument. So she hangs up on her mother.

Courtney said the fight was over the fact that Toby had been gone for a while without telling her where he went and that he had refused to share his cell phone location with her after she had asked him repeatedly to do so. So that's when Courtney claimed that the argument got physical and that Toby pinned her against a wall and tried to strangle her. But she said she escaped his clutches,

went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife to defend herself and told him not to come near her. Courtney said she had no intention of actually using the weapon, but when Toby threatened her further, she hurled the knife across the room about 10 feet away and actually impaled him in the chest. No red flags. Look, Peyton and I went to axe throwing a month ago or so. Yeah.

And there was knife throwing. and there was knife throwing too. I'm just going to let you know it is way harder to throw a knife that's super sharp and like impale someone, but even in sticking out to stick in that wood, even a few inches, extremely difficult. There is no way. No, the chance that you actually get the blade of the knife into something. There's just no way you girl threw it 10 feet. 10 feet's far too. And hit him right in the chest.

Well, probably it was like a random kitchen knife and it just impaled him and killed him. Yeah. No, I'm calling BS right now. So essentially at the police station, Courtney is admitting to the stabbing, but she goes, it's honestly just a freak accident and it was in self-defense.

Like that's what she claims. Now, during this interview with police, a detective comes in and breaks the news to Courtney that Christian Obumseli, her boyfriend, did not survive the stab wound to his chest. And on camera, Courtney breaks down in hysterics. She asks one of the detectives for a hug, but you have to wonder, was Courtney really remorseful

or was she just distressed about what was obviously gonna come next? Regardless, at this point in time, police have to take Courtney's word for it. I mean, they are looking at this big, six foot tall, former football player and thinking she stabbed him. I mean, and this is not, this is very, if the roles were, I know what

you guys are screaming right now. I know, but police are thinking self-defense could add up here. I know if roles were reversed, it wouldn't feel like that, but that's what they're thinking. Oh, I was thinking, they were thinking, how did this big, huge, tall, I don't know, is he buff? I don't know, I haven't seen him. Football player, ex-football player, sports player,

whatever you wanna call it, how did she escape him? Roll a knife 10 feet across. He just stood there with open arms and went, yeah, hit me right in the chest. Okay, so here's the thing. That is the problem with Courtney's story. You don't lodge a knife from 10 feet away and stab someone fatally in the chest. I don't even care if you're an Olympic knife. They're gonna move. You would have like there's no way she threw it. I don't know how fast Olympic knife throwers or knife there was throw a

turn, but it's probably so fast that I'm sure they could do it. She probably threw it five miles an hour. Not even that she didn't throw it. I'm just going to keep listening. Okay, so obviously autopsy is going to prove like you will be able to prove from the knife wound if it was thrown

or if it was stabbed. Okay, I didn't think about that. So while Courtney's taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation, officers begin diving into the history between Courtney and Toby. They have a lot of social media content. They have a lot of friends. And it turns out when they start talking to people who know Courtney and Toby, there's a lot more going on than what they've been showing their followers on social media. So originally a lot of the real-life friends that Courtney had figured things were going well between her and Toby. That was until one night when Courtney had a little too much to drink and she confessed something to one

of the friends in her friend group. She said she didn't understand why everyone loved Toby, her boyfriend, so much, and that she wasn't in love with him anymore. Courtney mentioned that they got into fights at times. For example, she said once she caught him stealing her phone and sending money to himself from her bank accounts, and a few days later they actually broke up because of it. Sometimes things would get so serious that she would tell Toby to move out of the

condo, but they always seem to get back together somehow. And the fighting appeared to subside whenever Courtney was sober. But the problem was Courtney liked to drink and she drank all of the time and she was easily triggered while she was drunk. So there was actually one scary incident back in Las Vegas in 2021. This is about a year before Toby died. Police were called to the couple's hotel room after complaints that they were loudly arguing and apparently by the time they had gotten in there Courtney had thrown a glass at Toby after calling him names and she was arrested and brought down to the police station where she gave her side of the

story which was that she had gotten drunk, got a tattoo and came back and fell asleep but Toby got mad at her after she slept through their dinner reservations. Now in this police footage Courtney is very intoxicated. So she does have experience in throwing things. Yes. And while it appears that no one was injured in this situation necessarily, it still went on the record that she threw a glass at him. And this situation did not help Courtney get out of her drinking or possible anger issues because it gets worse.

In October October 2021, the couple still lived in Texas, but they were making plans to move to Miami in three months. Courtney sent Toby a series of argumentative text messages that police find and in them, Toby calls Courtney out for having taken his phone a few days prior, but then he talks about how she had stabbed him in the leg and that it hurt so bad at this point that he couldn't effing walk. She stabbed him in the leg. This is when they still lived in Texas. A follow up text read quote, the next morning I still woke up happy.

I still gave you a good day even though my leg was hurting because my girlfriend stabbed me. Did I make you feel like crap for stabbing me? No, I just sucked it up and hoped that tomorrow would be better. That's not way too much patience. Apparently the two still met up that evening because the following day, another conversation appeared in text messages.

And in it, Toby mentioned how Courtney had hit him repeatedly in the head with her phone and that he was bleeding and he had to sleep in the bathroom that night. Again, this is all we're navigating through texts. So we're missing chunks of like what's happening, but in the texts, they are admitting these things. And Courtney replied, I'm sorry for hitting you in the face and in the back of your head and for spitting on you. Is it right? No, you just piss me off, but I still love you. Oh, so I mean, this is, I mean, it's not okay. She's physically abusive. Yeah, 100%. So after this, you'd think, okay, time to cut your losses and move on from here, right? Like,

she's lucky that this hasn't been reported. And they're obviously not a healthy couple. So time to walk away, hopefully, if he's able to get out of this situation. But something we know is that domestic abuse is not easy to walk away from. It is nuanced. And in the case of Toby, it appears Courtney might have been the one pulling the financial strings, which we know can be a reason

that someone stays in a relationship for long because financially they feel that there is no way out. And I mean, she's employing him basically, at this point, she is funding his life. Statistically, men have a harder time reporting domestic violence because there's a worry of looking weak or that the information will get back to their abuser and it will get worse. But at some point you have to wonder when is enough enough? Well, right after moving into the new condo in Florida in January,

a few texts showed that Courtney was planning on buying cocaine. And then she got upset with Toby again, as he was still out late at the bar watching a football game. And after another argument that night, Toby actually took some photos on his phone of his face. And there were deep gashes to his chin and his cheek. And he actually had to go to the hospital to get stitches were deep gashes to his chin and his cheek. Holy crap, man. And he actually had to go to the hospital to get stitches because the gashes were so deep. And at the hospital, he texted Courtney promising that he was going to tell people that it was a

football related injury and that he wasn't going to rat her out and tell people that she had done it to him. It's just crazy what I'm trying to figure out how to word this. When people feel trapped in a domestic violence situation it's it's just sad but I can't speak to it because I haven't been in one but I know this is very common with a lot of domestic violence. It is hard. In physically abusive relationships no matter which side of it you're on you're male or female. Yeah it's just rough and we see this pattern

and I, I mean, we can't get mad at the people and tell them, why didn't you report it? Why did you do this? You literally can't victim blame. Because there's just so much more to it. That's just sad. At the end of the day, it's just sad and it shouldn't happen. Also, I think it's important to know

that these text messages about this incident, right? There have been multiple incidents now and police involved in domestic violence situations with this couple where Courtney is the abuser. This situation where he goes to the hospital and gets stitches and he's texting her saying, don't worry, I won't tell anyone. The text messages between them imply

that she made these gashes on his face with a knife. Oh, man. So it wasn't like her nails or anything. She had actually- Yeah. Slit him, if you will. Yes, I don't know, yeah. So after this incident, according to the text messages, Courtney heavily love bombs Toby apologizes, insists it won't happen again, that she's humiliated, she had deep regret,

she was so sorry for hurting him. And Toby responds and accepts her apology. This is something, according to text messages, that will be a pattern between the two of them. But there was one text he sent her that night that could not be more eerie now that you know the situation. In the chaos of everything, Toby actually texted Courtney

after the situation and said, is our love going to kill me? And if only he knew how true those words would be. Yeah. Now, here's the thing. There were some people who saw these fights happen between Courtney and Toby in real time. Obviously, you can't hide this and those friends said Toby never fought back.

He always just did his best to deescalate the situation, make her calm. I mean, he would fight with his words, right? But he wouldn't ever fight physically with her. And that when she would get to this point, him trying to calm her down just wouldn't work. And so he would usually just take the abuse from her because he was bigger. He felt like he could take it and this was a detail that was actually confirmed when security footage from their condo's elevator caught the couple in another fight the February before Toby died and you might have actually seen this footage circulating through

social media because it kind of did go viral after he was killed. So video surveillance shows Courtney pounding on Toby, going wild in the elevator, like punching him, attacking him, and he is just trying to dodge the abuse. He doesn't respond. This was only within a few days of another piece of video evidence taken by Toby himself, where he captured an argument of theirs on his iPhone, which is a red flag. Number one, when you begin like

filming the abuse, you know, something's taking documentation of the abuse. He clearly feels unsafe, even if he's not telling other people. And this time Courtney was mad at Toby for saying hi to one of her friends that they passed on the street. And in that video, Courtney calls Toby a racial slur. Oh, I got you. Which is real. And then flat out says to him, I'm going to F and kill you.

She says this in the video. This is nuts. Now, finally, she's nuts. One of their most explosive fights seemed to happen on a work trip in twenty twenty two. This is just weeks before Courtney will stab

Toby to death. And this time it wasn't behind closed doors. Other people saw the whole thing going down and they recorded it as well. So there this couple is I mean, it's very apparent at this point that it is unhealthy.

Apparently Courtney was in Aspen, Colorado with some friends staying in a house that she had rented. And then earlier that day, she had gone to a photo shoot where she showed up drunk with a bleeding cut on her arm. So Courtney was actually fired from this photo shoot because of this situation and sent home. But when she returned to the rental property, she took her rage out on Toby.

She came in, hands swinging for Toby's face in front of other people. She blamed him for why she got fired, saying that he was always flirting with other women. And this is why she had to go drink, which is why she got the cut and showed up drunk to the photo shoot. This girl is insane, man. So basically she yells at Toby says, you're there.

You like, you're the reason I have this problem. Like your behavior is why I do these things. Like you make me do this. And the argument actually ends up violent and Toby goes home with more stitches in his face after this argument. But here's the scariest thing about all of this. There were so many red flags leading up to the day Toby died

almost down to the minute. You have to wonder if one person's tiny decision to hop in and help out could have been a matter of life or death. Because since police learned that these noise complaints from their condo had gotten so out of control, they realized that the couple was actually extremely close to being evicted because of how bad the arguments were getting. And I guess the only thing that stopped them from finally kicking Courtney out was that on March 28th, she told management that the reason the arguments were so loud was because she had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and she had just started receiving treatment. So it was going to

get better. Now, whether or not this was true, I can't say, but things got so wild between the two of them that on April 2nd, a day before the murder, Courtney had kicked Toby out of the apartment so he was sleeping in the hallways and lobby of the building until she let him back in. And this is because the way Courtney was paying Toby was just by providing for him. She wasn't actually giving him money. So he didn't have means to just go get a hotel or find somewhere else to sleep. So I guess at some point she comes downstairs out of the apartment and he approaches her to try and talk to her, but she pushes him and the cops are called because

this is happening at the condo. Now, Toby didn't speak with the police that night, but she pushes him and the cops are called because this is happening at the condo. And she told them, no, no, no, Toby was the one who was violent towards her and she wanted police to give her a restraining order against him. Now police explained that she would need to go to court to make this happen. But Courtney's insistence on the matter didn't seem to last long because that night she actually let Toby back into the apartment. And by the afternoon of April 3rd, everything seemed to be back to normal between Toby and

Courtney, at least to her fans, because she went live on Instagram. She did a Q&A for her 1.9 million Instagram followers. Oh my gosh, that's a lot of people. And as an answer to one of those questions, Courtney talked about where she sees herself in five years and she replied that she saw herself living with two kids owning a couple of houses. She even made a comment about the police during that live session and said that she didn't think they always did their job, but that she supports them. And then only a few hours later they would be doing their job because Courtney

would being brought down to the station and questioned after the murder of her 27 year old boyfriend that she had many prior domestic violent behaviors towards. Now Courtney, however, was allowed to go home that night, the night that he was murdered. She wasn't under arrest yet. And it's not until the following day, April 4th, that Toby's family actually learns about his death, but not in the way they should have. Toby's family hadn't heard much from him since he started dating Courtney. He had sort of isolated himself, grown apart for them, but this is also a behavior that is seen in these domestically

abusive partnerships, so it's not that shocking. What was shocking however, was when Toby's mom got a call from the medical examiner, they didn't say, hey, we would like to inform you about your son's death. The medical examiner called and said, hey, would you like to donate his organs? And that was how the family learned that their son had not only died, but been murdered. Is that like normal practice?

Like what is that about? No. That's insane. So naturally the family scrambled to find out what happened to Toby. And when they finally did, they're obviously furious. They're like, why did you let her walk away? Why is she not under arrest?

Yeah. Like even if her story is true and this was in self-defense, there's still gonna be charges brought, and rightfully so because Courtney's bad behavior did not end after the night Toby died. So as police were digging into these text messages, because obviously they don't find these immediately,

it's gonna take time. They're looking for this video footage, they're looking for eyewitness accounts. They're trusting Courtney at her word until they find evidence that they can't. They're trying to uncover the truth behind Courtney and Toby's relationship. But during this time, Courtney goes back home to Texas. And on June 16th, 2022, the Travis County Sheriff's Department respond to a call

from an 18-year-old boy. He says that he's walking around his neighborhood and a drunk woman approached him with her two dogs. He said that she followed him home and started making sexual advances toward him. And when he declined, she began threatening to burn down his house. So the 18 year old's father came outside

cause he still lives with his parents. I mean, if there was a drunk, yeah. There's a drunk crazy person running up to me making sexual advances, I'd be like, what is happening right now? And so the father comes outside and obviously it's safe to assume that you know who this woman is.

It's Courtney. And when he says, hey, you need to leave, Courtney, who is drunk becomes explosive and starts slapping the kid's father in the face. He doesn't hit her back, but he calls police. So after this incident, Courtney supposedly is sent to a rehab center in Hawaii for substance abuse and PTSD. She needs to be arrested and put in jail forever. So on August 9th, 2022, police finally have their ducks in a row and between the mountain

of circumstantial evidence, the history of violence and the medical examiner's confirmation that said Courtney was lying, there was absolutely no way she threw that knife and caused that wound that the stab wound had happened intentionally in close proximity. The police had more than enough to arrest Courtney for second degree murder charges. The following day authorities in Hawaii brought her into custody and she was then extradited back to Miami to await her trial.

She wasn't the only one arrested for a crime connected to Toby's death. Get this, her parents are arrested too. Because they knew the whole time, didn't they? It turns out Courtney's parents had done something pretty stupid to help her out after she was arrested. See, Toby's laptop was returned to the apartment after the police no longer needed access to it.

And when Courtney's dad went to clean the Miami place out for her, He grabbed Toby's laptop and took it home with him to Texas. But in September, a month after Courtney's arrest, her parents and apparently the lawyers got desperate to try and help her, to help her cover her tracks. So they tried to hack into Toby's iCloud account to try to erase text messages. I don't know if they thought that maybe the police didn't already have the text messages. And so they were like, we need to try and help Courtney by deleting these. One message from Courtney's mom to her attorneys read, quote,

we'll be sending the laptop pin ideas so we can try them before you see her again. A few days later, Courtney's lawyer actually responded back with a few possible suggestions. He ended with, quote, I would try all together and mix some of the capitalization and see if we get lucky. So the lawyer is encouraging them to tamper with evidence. Okay. Um, I feel like it's a little bit of a hot take and someone mentioned something. I can't remember on what social media

platform about it. It's just like, shouldn't that be illegal? It is like how they're gonna get arrested. I mean, not the attorney. That's what I'm saying. As an attorney, that's okay. Like that line doesn't matter for you, but it matters for the clients. This is where I get so confused. I don't know. I need to talk to someone. Someone let us know about that. I need to talk to an attorney, like, I guess mainly defense attorneys. But the thing is, it's not her attorney, it's her parents' attorney, technically.

Still, like what he's saying is illegal. Like what he's telling them to do is illegal. So on September 30th, Courtney's mom actually texted the attorney back and said, hell yeah, that pin worked. So they got into the computer. Gosh, okay. So in January of 2024, both of Courtney's parents

were actually arrested with one count of unauthorized access of a computer, computer system or electronic device. However, those charges were dropped this past summer in July of 2024. That's because the parents argued that the couple had shared access to the computer. So technically it belonged to both of them

and that they had Courtney's authorization to use it. So while her parents are off the hook, Courtney, who is now 28 years old, has been denied bail and is still awaiting her trial date behind bars. If Toby's story tells us anything, it's that social media does not always paint the full picture.

And more importantly, you never really know what someone is going through behind closed doors. And a man can be just as much as a victim as a woman can in these circumstances. And I think that is something that is finally coming to the surface and people are really starting to understand when it comes to domestic violence. In fact, according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in four men will experience domestic abuse at some point in their life. That's a pretty crazy statistic.

But now the just the average human being has access

to social media and become something. And so there's so much more of like, did you hear about this? Did you hear about this? Like these people that you're watching online and you're idolizing and looking up to, at the end of the day, could be pretty crappy people. So that parasocial relationship,
