Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey there and welcome to Muscle for Life. I am Mike Matthews. Thank you for joining me today for an episode that I did years ago, but that I recently went through and wanted to redo with some new thoughts. And that is advice that I would give to my younger self. So let's just get right to it, shall we? And these are in no particular order. So here is the first one. Celebrate the milestones and victories, including the smaller ones. You and your team will appreciate it. Two, doing something is usually better than doing nothing, but doing only what you should be doing is best. Three, stop trying to help people who don't want to be helped. They will just keep ignoring your advice, falling flat and learning and changing nothing. Four, be nicer because being quote unquote right is not enough. Five, don't allow people you dislike to make you into someone you dislike. Six, give more consideration to your wife's advice. She's sharp. Seven, read more and not merely to accumulate information, but to become a different person with a different way of thinking. Eight, stop looking at porn. I know, Stop looking at porn. I know, I know. Go listen to my podcast on why you should stop looking at porn. Go over to legionathletics.com, search for porn, and the podcast will come up.
Starting point is 00:01:40 Number nine, talk important things over with people you trust because you don't always know best, dude. Ten, take a vacation already. You have earned it. 11. Sometimes the antidote to a dark day is a white pill. And no, I'm not talking about Xanax. I'm talking about being a fountain, not a drain, as the saying goes. You know, finding a bright spot, a break in the clouds, a spiritual salve to like, love, and rub all over yourself. Twelve, be more thankful and express it. Thirteen, many people don't even like themselves, so do not take it personally if they don't like you either. Fourteen, don't mistake the relief of making a decision as a sign of making the right decision. 15. Stop associating with hypocrites, parasites, and liars. Do not become emotionally entangled with them. Do not let them bargain with you.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Just leave. 16. Don't be generous to a fault because there is a word for that. It is sucker. 17. View any attempts to make you feel hopeless and afraid as emotional assaults on your well-being. Protect your mind against these psychological pathogens as you would protect your body against physical ones. 18. Criticize less and coach more. The difference? Well, the critic jumps on weaknesses and ignores strengths, but the coach acknowledges strengths and weaknesses while helping people realize their potential.
Starting point is 00:03:12 19. Ignore people who use their knowledge and intelligence to tear others down rather than build them up. And number 20, have more fun. Have as much fucking fun as you can, because no amount of money or quote unquote success satisfies like it. How would you like a free meal planning tool that figures out your calories, your macros, even your micros, and then allows you to create 100% custom meal plans for cutting, you to create 100% custom meal plans for cutting, lean gaining, or maintaining in under five minutes. Well, all you got to do is go to buylegion.com slash meal plan, B-U-Y legion.com slash meal plan and download the tool.
Starting point is 00:03:57 And if I may say, this tool really is fantastic. My team and I spent over six months on this thing, working with an Excel wizard and inferior versions of this are often sold for 50, 60, even a hundred dollars. Or you have to download an app and pay every month or sign up for a weight loss service and pay every month, 10, 20, 40, 50, even $60 a month for what is essentially in this free tool. So if you are struggling to improve your body composition, if you are struggling to lose fat or gain muscle, the right meal plan can change everything. Dieting can go from feeling like running in the sand in a sandstorm to riding a bike on a breezy day down a hill. So again, if you want my free meal planning tool, go to buylegion.com slash meal plan,
Starting point is 00:04:52 buylegion.com slash meal plan, enter your email address and you will get instant access. Well, I hope you liked this episode. I hope you found it helpful. And if you did subscribe to the show, because it makes sure that you don't miss new episodes. And if you didn't like something about this episode or about the show in general, or if you have ideas or suggestions or just feedback to share, shoot me an email, mike at muscleforlife.com, muscleforlife.com, and let me know what I could do better or just what your thoughts are about
Starting point is 00:05:38 maybe what you'd like to see me do in the future. I read everything myself. I'm always looking for new ideas and constructive feedback. So thanks again for listening to this episode and I hope to hear from you soon.
