Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, My Mom's Basement listeners. You can find our episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube, and Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music. Just stupid boys making basement noise in the basement, noise in the basement. Just stupid boys making basement noise in the basement. Yeah, yeah. Hello and welcome to My Mom's Basement presented by 3Chi and Barstool Sports. I am your host, Robbie Fox, and today I've got two interviews for you, two great interviews. The first of which is with a UFC Hall of Famer, a UFC legend, the Count Michael Bisping. It was an awesome chat with the legend.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Before we get into it, I just want to remind everybody about 3Chi. 3Chi is the industry leader in Delta 8 THC. They are the best in the business for a reason. They invented this industry. The Delta 8 THE is a more functional alternative to marijuana. It gives off an amazing buzz, a great body feel, but with a clearer head and less anxiety and paranoia than weed. It's available online at 3chi.com. That's the number three, C-H-I.com, and at retailers around the country. You must be 21 or older to purchase,
Starting point is 00:01:21 and remember, this is not just CBD. It's psychoactive. It's going to get you high. It's going to give you a good buzz. If you take enough of it, it's going to get you really high. So be careful with it. Be responsible with it. They've got root beer taffies, Delta 8-Ball candies. They're kind of like Skittles. Disposable vapes, awesome products.
Starting point is 00:01:39 I think they got blue raspberry gummies now. Tons of great stuff. So go to 3chi.com, use the promo code MMB at checkout, and you will receive 5% off your order. Now let's get into this interview with the Count Michael Bisping. Hello, and welcome back to My Mom's Basement. It is Robbie Fox, and I am here with a legend, the Count Michael Bisping. Bisping, it's been a long time of me doing this podcast and being like,
Starting point is 00:02:03 you know who would be a dream guest? Michael Bisping. I bet bet that would be awesome so I'm glad to finally get you on the podcast I really appreciate you doing this hey listen you know what they say dreams finally can come true well I'm happy for you Robbie I'm proud of you how are you mate nice to talk to you I'm doing well it was a uh pretty crazy end to the year in the UFC commentary world, I feel like. So this is a decent place to start. I watched the Cruz DC video that you tried to kind of mediate. Was the tension in the room just so strange and awkward for that? There was definitely tension in the room. That's for sure. Listen, you're bringing this up, not me. I don't want to stir the pot, shall we say. Cruz shouldn't have said that. DC was having a word.
Starting point is 00:02:46 They were chatting away, but it was in an interview. Things were starting to escalate. Things were starting to get a little testy, you know what I mean? So I came in as the voice of reason, like I often do. And I came in, had a little comedy relief, and they're all good now. They're all good. Cruise shouldn't have said that. DC's a fantastic commentator he does a great job he does do his research research he does his homework much like dominic cruz much like
Starting point is 00:03:10 myself but uh hey it is what it is yeah so when you're actually commentating this is something that i always run through in my mind because i do commentary for like our rough and rowdy like it's like backwards boxing and stuff someone just sent me a link i saw it oh really good so when we have employees sometimes from barstool fight i can't remove my bias i'm like rooting for them on commerce and you don't need to because it's rough and rowdy it's not the ufc but how do you actually do that when you have fighters that either in real life you dislike as people or like as people yeah listen that does happen of course it does you know it's only natural we're only human beings at the end of the day. You're going to like or dislike people, but the fights, they paint the story themselves. You know what I mean? I just call the fights how I see them. Obviously when they're walking in, I try and educate the audience on who these people are, what their history with the UFC is, their skills, their success so far, et cetera, et cetera. But when the fight starts, I just call it like I see it. Do you know what I mean? So, you know, sometimes there might be somebody you have history with,
Starting point is 00:04:10 but if they're getting their ass kicked, they're getting their ass kicked. Do you know what I mean? I can't paint a false narrative. Oh, he's just, he's letting this guy gas out by getting his ass kicked. That was a famous line by Dominic Cruz one day. No, there's none of that. You just call it like you see it. And if your buddy's getting his ass kicked then unlucky bud have you ever like requested to not commentate a fight for that reason or no i have not no i believe i'm trying
Starting point is 00:04:35 to think i think once or twice somebody of the people may have taken themselves out for one fight i'm not sure but no no i'm not that popular i don't have any friends in the UFC. You know this, come on, Robbie. Well, I was thinking like there's the potential Cruz Cheeto Vera fight, right? That's like up in the universe. And that's, you have history with both of those people. You're friendly with both, I assume. So it's like, that seems like
Starting point is 00:04:57 it would be such a strange thing. Like you're kind of, your friend's fighting. Yeah, again, no, but I'd still be happily, I'd happily do that, happily do that. Happily do it. You know, it is what it is. This is what we sign up for. You know, I think with me being around the UFC so long and knowing, you know, what goes into this sport and what it takes and being able to separate friendship from business, you know, that's what you got to do sometimes. Certainly if they were going to fight one another, I'd have no problem calling that fight. I'm friends with
Starting point is 00:05:22 Chito. He trains at Ruka where I train with Jason perillo cruz is an old workmate that i've wanted to strangle on many many occasions so many occasions wanted to strangle dominic cruz it definitely is a love-hate relationship hey speaking of people that maybe you've wanted to strangle before i love your chemistry with brendan fitzgerald i think it's You're always giving him shit for hiding under the table and all that. Hey, hey, he's an easy target. Brendan's awesome. He's such a lovable guy. He is such a professional
Starting point is 00:05:52 and he is just a great person. But yeah, I like to give him a little bit of shit sometimes. It makes it fun. It's just like, you know, like you would do your little brother or something, you know? Yeah, of course.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Well, you got to watch out. He has a white belt. He's coming up the ranks. Oh, hey, listen listen this used to drive me crazy he would always talk about doing jiu-jitsu with me and stuff like that i'm like brendan i will hurt you okay stop it he's like no i don't know mike i've been training a little bit i'm like you're out of your goddamn mind listen listen you just talk about it and leave the actual doing to the professionals yeah yeah i mean that might be a good idea for Brendan Fitzgerald. He's a friend of the show. I don't want him to get hurt.
Starting point is 00:06:28 He's awesome. Maybe be careful around the count. When did the actual idea to start doing commentary come along for you? Was it during your fighting career? Was it in the back of your head or did this come post-retirement? I think all fighters, to be honest, would love to transition to commentary. You know, not all of them. Some of them just wouldn't, it wouldn't be a viable fighters, to be honest, would love to transition to commentary. You know, not all of them. Some of them just wouldn't, it wouldn't be a viable option, but you know,
Starting point is 00:06:53 you put your heart and soul into this. If you're going to be a professional fighter, you know, it takes, you know, there is no plan B, but of course the plan A, the fight career is going to dry out at some point. You're going to get older. Maybe you're just not that good to start with. I just got older. I had a ton of injuries and, you know, I always kind of had one eye, shall we say, on commentary because I had potentially one eye, you know, one of my eyes was failing me. So I was like, shit, you know, I'm on borrow time as it is. So I was always trying to set myself up with things outside the octagon. So I started my own podcast, did my YouTube channel, doing this this working on acting stuff and of course commentary so uh i always wanted to do that i worked for fox sports doing the post fight shows and the pre-shows then we did ufc tonight and i was getting
Starting point is 00:07:33 more and more reps as a tv professional which i never would have thought i would have said back in the day but baby step step by step bit by bit uh and then they gave me an audition to commentate the contender got that did well here we are so it was never really a conscious decision it was just an evolution of things all the time you have a lot of different endeavors now you've got commentary you've got the acting endeavors like you mentioned you've got live shows as well now you've got your podcast which one do you find you get the most personal enjoyment out of? Do you know? Oh, that's a good question.
Starting point is 00:08:07 That's a hard question. Like the shows that I just did last year, I did a one-man show, Tales from the Octagon. That went unbelievably well. You know, in Manchester, we had 3,500 people sold out. It was crazy. And I was terrified walking out there in front of all these people, entertaining them on stage for 90 minutes. So that was amazing. But I really enjoyed my YouTube channel. So give that a search, Michael Bisping. I'm putting content out there most days. It gives me a chance to interact with everybody. I love doing the live streams because they get a little crazy sometimes. Some people
Starting point is 00:08:37 asking a little, some of the questions are a little, what's the word? They're a little controversial. You know what I mean? They're trying to get me polarizing there we go but uh yeah it's it's great you know listen my life's good i'm a very very lucky man yeah speaking of that youtube channel i was taking a peek at it before and i'm a subscriber obviously and there's a very funny video from like two days ago of you getting home from doing commentary and your son immediately just trying to wrestle you what's going on with that i mean you didn't even get to get out of your tie yet tell me about it i know exactly i get zero respect at my house you know what i mean i come in from a hard day's work providing the beautiful house where they all live and i get assaulted upon entry at like 11 p.m at night they're all sitting around i'm exhausted
Starting point is 00:09:20 my son came out some talent though oh he Yeah, he's on a wrestling scholarship. He's a big lump. And no, he just came back from college. So I haven't seen him for a bit. So, you know, you start having, it's like police academy. Another father and the son of a fighter. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:35 I'm like, come on. So we start messing around, you know, but yeah, yeah. He's a little bit out of my reach these days in terms of wrestling ability, but I always tell him the same thing because he is a good wrestler. He's very good. He's strong. He's big and all that stuff and he's got better
Starting point is 00:09:47 wrestling technique than i did but i would say callum callum be careful you know the best takedown in the game is left duck okay shut up sit down do your homework and get me a beer does he have like dreams or aspirations of following in your footsteps after the wrestling career? No, I don't know. I don't know. It gets spoken about sometimes. And I think because he's my son, maybe he'd like to try it. I think he might want to dip his toes in and try it, but he's a smart kid. You know, fighting's hard. It's a tough business. And I always say, I fought so they don't have to. Now, if he wants to, I'll support him.
Starting point is 00:10:23 100% I'll be there, but I'll be a pain in the ass. I said, listen, if you do it, you're doing it my way. I'm managing you. I'm training you. And you're going to hate me more than you already do. Are you going to be like his John Fury? Like Tyson's dad? My God, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Making threats, what would we do to his opponent's girlfriends? If he doesn't win the fight, oh my God. Don't use out of his mind. I love it though. What a character. Yeah, no, he's fantastic. And speaking of characters, I feel like throughout your fighting career, you were one of the greatest quote unquote villains that MMA has ever seen.
Starting point is 00:10:58 And at some point you seem to embrace that and said, all right, I'm the bad guy. I'm going to make, you know, sell fights on this. When was that in your career where you realized like embracing that was the right idea? Well, no one wants to be hated, do they? Do you know what I mean? So you want to be liked, but obviously back in the day I was younger and I was cocky and, uh, I was maybe surrounded by some people that, you know, weren't a good influence with me. I didn't have the best people around me. So, uh, yeah, I look back and some of the things I said i i totally cringe out but i remember because i was quite light i came off the ultimate fire people liked me but then i fought matt hamill ufc 75 uh god that sounds a long time ago doesn't it 2007 and uh it was a close fight and i should have said whoa that was a tough fight could have
Starting point is 00:11:40 gone either way respect to matt and all the rest of it but i didn't you know and this was it was a free pay-per-view on spike tv he came out with the american flag draped all over him he walked out to born in the usa and on top of all that the man stoned death do you know what i mean and then i was a dickhead afterwards i never said oh that was great tough fight could have gone either way i i basically abused him on the microphone. And then that was that. That was the change after that. My God, my God, people were coming after me in style. But then after a while, you're like, okay, well, if this is how it's going to be, this is how it's going to be. You know, and you Americans, I shouldn't say that, but Americans.
Starting point is 00:12:19 You know, you can say it. Throw me in there. You always paint the British as the bad guy. You know, in the movies, it's always the bad guy. Do you know what I mean? And the UFC kind of liked it. The British liked me. And I'm like, fuck it.
Starting point is 00:12:29 If you want me to be a bad guy, be my guest, buddy. Because I can be a bad guy, especially when I'm fighting your people in the octagon. So that was that. But then slowly but surely, people kind of realized that I was joking. That I'm sarcastic a lot, you know. And sometimes when things are written in print, the context doesn't cross over, you know what I mean? But then when I started working on TV, yeah, I think you started to think, hold on a minute, this guy, he's not that bad after all. So yeah, fortunately, I'm not quite as hated these days. No, not at all. I mean, I feel like
Starting point is 00:12:58 in the MMA community, it's completely flipped. I feel like it's, you're kind of beloved in the MMA community. Was it different before social media as well like you mentioned 2007 like you don't hop on twitter after that fight and see what people are saying so like how do you even get that feedback yeah you know you're absolutely right but i'll tell you a story because obviously like fighters we're all we're all egomaniacs we want to see what people are saying i had my ufc debut when i won the ultimate fighter UFC 66 MGM grand Tito Ortiz versus Chuck Liddell too and I went out there I opened the pay-per-view I had a great performance I'm going to knock out in the first round and I remember you want to see what people are saying I want to see how you're being received and it was late my wife had gone to bed and we didn't even have a laptop back then
Starting point is 00:13:40 because it was my first fight we were broke and uh there was a little uh internet center in the lobby of the uh the mgm grant so i was on there on this forum do you know what i mean just seeing what people are saying and they will say oh he sucks he sucks he's shit i'm like what are you talking about i just knocked the guy out in the first round they're like oh he's not going to go very far bloody bloody bar but that's how it was back in the day i remember when twitter and social media got involved with it all again Again, our foundations. Yeah, everything changed. Because now with your opponents, you can talk shit to them directly. You haven't got to go through a journalist. You haven't got to go through someone that's going to maybe twist your words a little bit. You can actually just go right at them. You can put a video out there yourself, obviously, with YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, all that stuff that stuff yeah it really changed it and uh in terms of trash talk for want of a better word uh but it's certainly a lot more fun now a lot more interactive what was your personal favorite build to a fight speaking of all the trash talk oh it's got to be a luke rock all too right yeah i mean because that was every round was a 10 7 bisping yeah no it kind of was blessing you him. You know, poor guy. Poor guy. He looks good.
Starting point is 00:14:45 He fights good. He doesn't talk too good. You know, I'm going to pick my words, but he was talking shit to me. He was coming after me. Do you know what I mean? I was like, buddy, buddy, listen, mate, you're barking up the wrong tree here.
Starting point is 00:14:56 But yeah, yeah. I mean, God bless him. I had some good one-liners in that one. No, conceive, believe, achieve thing. And, you know, he just set me up too good god bless him but there was a few fun ones over the years you know i was very lucky i had some memorable ones let me see who else i don't know brian stan he was fun we had a good lead up with that i don't know did you like it when opponents could kind of talk shit back to you and like
Starting point is 00:15:19 if they were kind of on on par yeah i loved it though the gsp that was a good one uh but yeah no no i i liked it because it makes it fun listen at the end of the day you know this uh trash talk term gets thrown around a lot and i don't like that but what it is is psychology basically you're trying to make your opponent doubt themselves you know this that's the whole point of trash talk yes you're big in yourself for yes you're trying to sell a fight but you're trying to win a fight most importantly so when i'm talking to someone if i'm going to fight them i'm going to try and remind you're bigging yourself up. Yes, you're trying to sell a fight, but you're trying to win a fight, most importantly. So when I'm talking to someone, if I'm going to fight them,
Starting point is 00:15:48 I'm going to try and remind them every time they were knocked out or if they were submitted, when they ran out of steam and talk about times when I didn't. You're just trying to instill that little bit of doubt. And then at the weigh-ins, that's your final opportunity to get into the head of your opponent.
Starting point is 00:16:01 And you're going to come face to face, almost nose to nose, you know? And yeah, you might not look like you're putting your best foot forward. Your grandma might look at it and go, Michael, what are you doing? Do you know what I mean? But if I can make him doubt himself, if I can let him know, Hey, listen, motherfucker, this is real. And when you see me in that cage tomorrow night, I'm going to smash your fucking head in. Do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:16:22 You never know. They might, they might, it might just put a little bit of doubt in there i just shit myself a little bit yeah you should do um you know like like some of the professionals it doesn't work you know they'll just laugh it off and whatever but some of them it does and if it does you've won the fight already because putting that seed of doubt into a fighter's mind that is the best thing that you can do if you're going to fight someone yeah and i feel like someone that's doing that a lot right now and i'm not a fan and i don't think you're a fan either is jake paul he just knocked out tyron woodley a brutal knockout a great knockout
Starting point is 00:16:54 are you a fan of the circus fights not necessarily jake himself but just the idea of these big fights i mean they do bring a lot of attention to combat sports, right? Yeah, absolutely they do. Listen, Jake's doing great things for him and his own brand. And I guess for the sport of boxing as well. You know, I covered the first Jake Paul Woodley fight in Cleveland. I was there for BT Sport.
Starting point is 00:17:16 And when I was there, I commented at the time that the demographic in the crowd, it was full of a lot of young people, all new guys. Guarantee a lot of these were the first time they've ever been to a boxing match.
Starting point is 00:17:26 So in that regard, it's great, you know, and I think he's doing, he's making a lot of money for himself, you know, and he's certainly improving as a boxer. That fight on Saturday night was the biggest shit show I've ever seen in my entire life. It was one of the worst fights ever. Both men should be ashamed of themselves. I thought Tyrone Woodley, you know, listen, I like Tyron. He's great. He's awesome. He was a wonderful champion.
Starting point is 00:17:48 But in a sport where all you've got to do is throw punches and you don't throw punches, that's a problem. When all they're doing is clinching and not fighting, it's like, come on. The best thing that Jake did, and he was very lucky, was knocking him out cold. Because that's what people come for. That's what they want to see.
Starting point is 00:18:04 They want to see, they want to see the violence you set you phrase it. However you want to phrase it. But human beings are sick like that because that's what we want to see. And ultimately he gave everyone what he wants to see. And he kept that dream alive because had that gone to a decision with that kind of performance, I don't think anyone's clamoring to see either of those guys fight again,
Starting point is 00:18:24 but Jake knocked him out. Cold, cold, face first. And all this talk of a bloody fix as well. I was just on Instagram before. There's people who were drawing a circle around his hand because his hand kind of cocks. And they're like, oh, is that the moment where he signaled he was going to throw the fake punch? He's like, no, he's about to throw the punch.
Starting point is 00:18:42 And he's like, it's whatever. I mean, come on. I think that's ridiculous. Listen, I come on. That is not a thing. That's, I, listen, I said, I'm not a Jake Paul fan. I'm not one of these people that goes out and says, you got to respect this guy for what he's doing. It's amazing. But when I see people say it's fixed, it's like, oh man,
Starting point is 00:18:57 it makes me worry that these people are out there in society. No, no, it's crazy. Oh, and there's a lot of people like those in society. Don't get me started on other things. You know what I mean? My God, there's a lot of tools out there. A lot of idiots, a lot of stupid people that don't know shit, but they've got big mouths. Maybe I'm one of them. Yeah, no, no. You know, listen, Jake Paul, fair play to the man. You know, there's, I said this before, there's no prerequisite in combat sports that you have to come from a disadvantaged background that you have to, you know know i've been abused or beaten or poverty or whatever it is
Starting point is 00:19:29 you know fair play the guy's got money in the bank and he's fighting because he enjoys it he loves it he applies himself and he's getting better he's picking off old retired fighters you know tyron woodley's way past his sell by day he's lost's lost his last six. Ben Askren could never box to start with. Before that, it was Nate Robertson, a basketballer. I sent you a contract that wound up being nothing. He sent me a contract all day, mate, but he didn't buy it. I mean, if he wants to step in the ring, then, you know, I'm not saying I'll fight Jake Paul, but I would.
Starting point is 00:20:00 I would. I'd beat him up pretty easy, that's for sure. But, you know, hey, listen, fair play to the man. He's making money. God bless him. Yeah, a fan question we got here. They said, what was the Count's beer of choice after a big win? Oh, the beer of choice. Well, times have changed. Now I drink Sapporo.
Starting point is 00:20:19 I love Sapporo for some reason. Yeah, that's my go-to. It used to be Stella for the longest time, Stella Artois. But, you know, there's this myth around that i'm some like big party animal which is not the truth at all i really think that's another uh like american british stereotype no no no no listen listen i've definitely you know i i enjoy myself shall we say and i'll have a couple of beers in the evening but i ain't no big drinker do you know what i mean it all comes from when i showed up to the joy cpi press conference and i was i was i was hung over i remember because we weren't supposed to fight until like forever we didn't even have a date set for the fight but we're in las vegas and you know you're in las vegas
Starting point is 00:20:59 we're with all the team and the boys and my manager and stuff but we had a few drinks and it got a little carried away and it's like like, well, we're not fighting anytime soon. You give me a date and I wouldn't be drinking. And as I say, it got a little carried away. And then I fell asleep. And then the UFC were like, where are you? Where are you? I woke up, oh crap, I'll be there.
Starting point is 00:21:16 They're like, are you drunk? I'm like, no, I'm not drunk. They said, Dana said, if you're drunk, you are not to show up. I'm like, look, listen, I'm hungover. I'm not bloody drunk though. I'm like, look, listen, I'm hungover. I'm not bloody drunk, though. I just slept in. So anyway, I turned in, turned up, and I was late.
Starting point is 00:21:30 And George is like, are you intoxicated? I'm like, yeah, I am, motherfucker. You know what I mean? So what? Man up. Give us a date, and I'll be training. Was Dana pissed at that press conference if he warned you beforehand? He was pissed at first.
Starting point is 00:21:44 I heard it because he said, if he shows up and he's drunk, do not let him near the stage. beforehand he was pissed at first i heard it because he said if he shows up in his junk do not let him near the stage and he was pissed at first but afterwards because i because i did i came out hot because i was like yeah i gotta make i gotta make sure i showed up late do you know what i mean i showed up late and this is like you know i'm the champ and you know you know so i wasn't really fulfilling my obligations when i showed up late you know you don't do that so anyway so i came in hot and I put it on a show, you know? So then afterwards, Dana said, that was awesome. You're an asshole, but that was awesome.
Starting point is 00:22:11 With a smile on his face. That's great. So in October, 2016, you teased coming out to Wonderwall by Oasis over Song 2 by Blur. Now I'm a huge Oasis fan. The one thing that I've always had where I'm like, I can't be fully in on Bisping is the Blur thing, the Oasis-Blur rivalry, right? So what was that tease all about?
Starting point is 00:22:32 And where do you actually stand on Oasis versus Blur? Well, you know what? I mean, listen, I'm from near Manchester, just outside of Manchester, but I claim Manchester because it's the biggest city near where I live. I'm from Clitheroe. No one's heard of that. You know, so I'm a fan of Oasis.
Starting point is 00:22:48 I'm a fan of Blur, you know, and I came out to Song 2 for most of my career, which is just an awesome song. There was no like Blur over Oasis thing. And then I thought, you know what? Wonderwall for one of my final fights, being the champion in Manchester. Come on, that would have been iconic.
Starting point is 00:23:04 That would have been amazing. So you weren't just fucking around. That was actually something you thought about no i was gonna do it i was gonna do it but on this manchester uh blur versus oasis thing i'm gonna i'm gonna drop a fucking bomb here blur is the better band oh come on mike are you serious come on better band no i mean oasis oasis have some great songs. They have some great albums. Definitely, maybe. What's the story? Yeah, yeah, there's two. Blur doesn't have a one-two punch like that.
Starting point is 00:23:30 No, no, you're right. But they've got some good catchy songs. I don't know. Maybe I've just been listening to a bit of Blur. I don't hate Blur. Country House, great song, right? When they went back and forth with Country House first roll with it, like Blur deserved to win that one probably.
Starting point is 00:23:41 Girls and Boys. I mean, that's a good song. That is a good song. And then, of course, song two. The piece that was his taunts my friend what kind of music do you listen to in general these days but you know a bit of everything and when i get asked i never know what to say like if my spotify playlist is all kinds of stuff obviously i used to dj uh i was a nightclub dj for many years so i you know i used to dj house and trance stuff like that but but a bit of you know if it's good music, I'll listen to it.
Starting point is 00:24:07 There's some hip hop on there. There's some rock stuff on there. There's some dance music, of course, like I just said. There'll be a bit of classical music on there as well. Do you know what I mean? It depends. I've got many, many layers, Robbie. Do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:24:18 You think I'm one thing, then you'll soon discover I'm very much something else. Yeah, a bit of everything, mate. Nothing too crazy. We touched on the acting endeavors a little bit before, but I know you're really into that. So I wanted to ask, what was your favorite day you ever spent on set? Favorite day I ever spent on set? Well, I never thought, you know, when I was younger, I'd be having these kinds of conversations, you know, but back in the day, I got offered a part in a movie
Starting point is 00:24:42 as, you know, I was like, you know, one of the guys fighting. Turns out I had the main role in it and I was on the front cover of the bloody DVD. And I was terrified, terrified, never done acting in my life. But I got worked with an acting coach to try and prepare and whatnot. And when I got there, I was I was terrified. But as I relaxed more and more, I started really enjoying myself and started, you know, figured out I was pretty good at this. And the director said afterwards, director said afterwards he said wow you know you're pretty good at this mike you might want to try and continue so when i moved out here obviously i'm in orishan to california went about getting myself an agent and all the rest of it found myself an acting coach and blah blah blah
Starting point is 00:25:15 so there we go and yeah i'm chipping away things are going well favorite time on set uh let me see i don't know yeah i tell you what, when I was making Triple X with Vin Diesel up in Toronto, we had a scene. I'm chasing him on a bridge or something like that. And I pull him out of a car or something. I forget. I'm getting this kind of one. But we wanted to have a, you know, it was a very short thing.
Starting point is 00:25:39 And then Vin was like, no, no, no. Let's make this a little better. You know, what have you got, Mike? And then I came up with this little fight scene, you know, where I throw a punch at somebody, he moves out of the way, the hand goes through the window, he hits me. I fall onto a bridge. I say, what do you think you're doing?
Starting point is 00:25:53 He says, I'm building a bridge. I'm making a bridge. And he runs up me and jumps off a bridge or whatever. Yeah, that was pretty cool. Working with Vin Diesel was cool, you know. Getting some creative freedom, it sounds like, from him too. That's awesome. Yeah, yeah. Do you know, to be honest honest most of the time when i'm doing fight scenes um i i always
Starting point is 00:26:10 you know inject my kind of style and personality into it because when i'm doing fight scenes i want it to be realistic you know yeah there's very pretty scenes out there where people jumping in the air and doing backflips and all that stuff. Number one, I can't do that shit anyway. So let's start with that. I can't do that. But I like it to be real. I want it to be violent. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:26:35 So I always put my own little spin on all the fight scenes. All right. Finally, I just got two more questions for you. Who is your fighter of the year? Fighter of the year. Well, well, well, let me see. it's either going to be kamara uzman or charles olivera in my opinion is there anyone else that i'm missing robin what do you think is there any other contenders i think those are two good ones yeah yeah i mean so uzman beat
Starting point is 00:26:56 covington masvidal and gilbert burns come on that's a great year he was already champ and then obviously charles olivera yeah did he Did he beat Tony Ferguson, Gagey? And then, no, who did he just beat? Or not Gagey. He didn't fight Gagey yet. He's about to fight Gagey. Chandler. Chandler.
Starting point is 00:27:11 Chandler and then Poirier. And then Poirier and became the champ. I'm going to say Charles Oliveira. Simply because of the journey. Simply because of the mission. You know what I mean? It's all, I mean, Kamaru's fantastic. Of course, he's pound for pound number one.
Starting point is 00:27:23 He's incredible. I love what he does. He's a great champion, handles himself with class. But Charles Oliveira's a guy that's been around for a long time, and he kind of took my kind of path. You know, he came, well, my path wasn't quite as bad as his. He got knocked out a lot, but that makes the story even better. After all that time, you know, and having that,
Starting point is 00:27:41 he's got the most submissions in the UFC, but he's knocking people out as well. Just beat Dustin Poirier, Michael Chandler, you know and having that he's got the most submissions in the ufc but he's knocking people out as well just beat dustin poirier michael chandler you know tony ferguson they're three of the top guys and as i say he's now the undisputed champion nobody would have thought that a couple of years ago he is sitting on the top of the pile in the toughest division in the toughest sport in the world after kind of being a journeyman for so long so well done to that man yeah absolutely i don't think you could argue that especially look back at the last fight with poirier so many people doubted him in that one even and then he went and proved everyone wrong all over again um and one final question what is your fight of the year fight of the year oh my word oh god i hate these questions
Starting point is 00:28:20 because i could never think of an answer no no no you're good i was doing a list actually let me just have a look at my list because i'm doing this on youtube and i was uh hold on hold on hold the this is not the best uh uh content for you i get that but hold on i've got a little list somewhere oh these are bollocks to it best fight of the year what's your best fight of the year robbie for me it was chandler ga Robbie? For me, it was Chandler Gaethje at MSG. I was lucky enough to be at that one. And that was just like out of this world in person. Without question, that is the fight of the year. Without question.
Starting point is 00:28:52 In fact, there was another one the week after that was crazy as well. Who was that? I forget. I called it. Anyway, but yeah, Chandler versus, no, no, no. Was it the Holloway fight you're talking about maybe? Holloway Rodriguez. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:04 That was amazing as well. What a fight that was. I'd say one of those two, but yeah, I'll agree with you. I was there in the audience. The crowd was going absolutely wild. They were going wild. How they both took that amount of punishment and carried on fighting is unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:29:19 Again, that just highlights Charles Oliveira. He was able to take Chandler out of there. The crowd were going insane. It was an amazing fight, but I really felt sorry for Shane Burgos and his opponent. Billy Quarantillo. Because that was a sick fight. That was an amazing fight.
Starting point is 00:29:33 But the crowd, they'd already blown their wad. Do you know what I mean? They needed a smoke break. They were off getting a beer. They needed to come back down and take some deep breaths because they'd all lost their mind for Gage versus Chandler. There you go. Fight of the year. Justin Gagey, Michael Chandler. I love it. Michael Bisping, thank you very much. Everyone go check out Michael Bisping's channel on YouTube. Like he said, there's content every day. He just interviewed a psychologist. We talked
Starting point is 00:29:56 a little bit about fight psychology in this interview. Go watch 15 minutes of it on Michael Bisping's YouTube channel. Bisping, thank you so much. This was awesome. Robbie, my pleasure. Keep up the good work anytime. All right. Appreciate Michael Bisping for joining the show. I thought that was an awesome chat with an absolute legend. I just disagree with him on that Oasis versus Blur thing. And we could agree to disagree there. I appreciate him sticking by Bl blur after coming out the song to his whole career so before we get into this next interview with dan hausen one of the most eccentric bizarre very nice very evil very famous personalities in wrestling we tell everyone about hello fresh a very nice company nothing evil about them though
Starting point is 00:30:43 with hello fresh you get fresh pre-portioned ingredients and seasonal recipes delivered right to your doorstep. Skip those trips to the grocery store and count on HelloFresh to make home cooking easy, fun, and affordable, which is why it's America's number one meal kit. I've talked about HelloFresh in the past before. I legitimately get this stuff. It is awesome. I love their meal selection. They just changed up their meal selection. They're actually changing it up basically all the time, I think.
Starting point is 00:31:10 So you have your classics, which you could always go back to, but they're always, always adding more. It's super, super affordable, especially considering our promo code 14ROBBY. So you go to HelloFresh.com slash 14 Robbie, and then use that same promo code 14 Robbie gets you up to 14 free meals and three free gifts. Clem talked about it last week. It's just good stuff. We all try it. I think many people Barstool actually get HelloFresh now that I'm thinking about it. And it's not just because they're a great sponsor. It's because they have the meals to back it up. So go to HelloFresh.com slash 14 Robbie again, use that promo code 14 Robbie, and you'll get up to 14 free meals and three free gifts. All right, let's get into this interview
Starting point is 00:31:57 with Dan Housen. Hello, and welcome back to my mom's basement. It is Robbie Fox and I am here with the very nice, very evil, very famous Dan Housen. It's been a long time coming. We've been trying to make this work for a while and I'm glad we could finally get you on before the end of the year. Dan Housen, how are you? Welcome to the show. Finally, Dan Housen is on this very famous show. You can see Dan Housen has prepared the boxes. Yep. So many merchandise he's Dan Housen will ship out of all these boxes. You get the Dan Housen head, you get the
Starting point is 00:32:27 Bob Simpson. It's a very professional setup we have here. How is the leg doing after the unfortunate injury you suffered on Halloween? Ah, yes. Cursed Halloween, we call it. It is pretty good. Dan Housen started physical therapies today. So, we've been doing little workouts
Starting point is 00:32:43 to get Dan Hhausen back on his feet or leg or whatever and uh hopefully Denhausen's leg, his cybernetic new leg, will be stronger than ever. How did the injury actually happen? Oh my. The fellow jumped off the top rope and landed right on Denhausen's leg and And Dan Housen heard pop, pop. And he thought his ankle broke because the weird pressures of how it happened. And then he went to the doctor. And the doctor said, it is your leg. So Dan Housen thought he dislocated
Starting point is 00:33:14 his leg or his ankle or something. And it popped back in. And then he went to go move his leg. And it did not move. And it popped twice. Again. So that's what happened. It was quite awful. that's no good they should make that move illegal i think oh yes jumping off the top rope is now bad um so i know a little bit about your history you've been through many different dimensions you've been
Starting point is 00:33:35 through different um maybe multiverses you could say right why earth why did you settle on earth seems to me that is the most monies to be made on earth gotcha and is that why you you settle on earth seems to be that it's the most monies to be made on earth gotcha and is that why you also settled on the wrestling business oh yes so many monies to be made in the wrestling business if you can capitalize on it do you like any other sports or no oh dan hosen is not good at sports so he's he had no interest really in the other ones because he cannot do them so he will pass them and i go spec them but cannot do them she does not really watch them does not understand the rules yeah no that's fair enough wrestling is easy to understand you beat people up you hold a tag rope when you
Starting point is 00:34:16 do a tag team match and now you cannot jump off the top rope it'll be disqualified banned absolutely wrestling forever so you wrestled all over for a while. Then you signed a very expensive deal with Ring of Honor, right? And you wrestled for them for a while. They just celebrated the end of an era, what may be the final, final battle. Did Ring of Honor mean a lot to you in your wrestling career, Dan Housen? Yes, they gave Dan Housen his first television series. So gave him his contract.
Starting point is 00:34:43 He won his contract from beating Brian Johnstone on Final Battle. And, you know, that was his first television wrestling home, if you will. So, now we go all the way to the end of it. You know, some of Dan Housen's favorite wrestlers came from Ring of Honor. So, it was nice to be
Starting point is 00:35:00 able to be there. Who are some of those favorite wrestlers that you speak of? Of course, we got, but of course he and punk got him, got, uh, Brian Daniels in there, Samoa Joe, uh, homicide who then hasn't got the wrestle. Oh really? Oh yes. That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:35:17 And I know you have an extensive action figure collection as well. You know, I am a fan house and so I followed the videos. I've seen your star Wars videos, your videos your ec videos even do you consider yourself a nerd dan housing ah yes probably so i guess by the dictionary definition of sarah probably because you know that has many many action figures but that would mean Egon Cage is a nerd too. Yeah. Well, I think maybe they all fit into that category. Everyone fits into this category. I fit into the category myself.
Starting point is 00:35:54 We talk about a lot of nerdy stuff on this show. So did you like this stuff as a child? What was Dan Housen like as a child? Pretty much the same. Dan Housen used to have collected action figures as a child, but of course, I think we all did. And now it is carried over into a grown up Dan Housen. And pretty much collect all the same things.
Starting point is 00:36:13 You know, Marvels, horror stuff, comic book stuff, just in general, movie things. And what else did you know? Go to Halloween, dressed as a dracula a cane then was it was a zombie once but you know overall they just look like this what's it like now seeing people that dress up as dan hausen for halloween oh it's the best
Starting point is 00:36:38 uh they're just dressing up all the time it doesn't even have to be halloween then it gets tagged at least once a week i would think uh as people dressing up as dan hausen is quite wonderful but he's yeah one of the moments where dan hausen takes a step back and goes oh taking over the world is working yeah when we finally do an in-person interview maybe i'll dress up as dan hausen people won't be able to tell us apart you have to do it so i know you are a big fan of all of this stuff did you see the new spider-man oh yes then as winter i guess opening day it was thursday at 3 p.m it was the first showing day and oh no it was 4 p.m there was a 3 p.m this is a fun story for you not really but he's going to tell you anyway there was a 3 p.m which was the first first but then there was a 4 pdm that was on a bigger screen so that has uh took davis and camera boy nick to the bigger screened version i think the big
Starting point is 00:37:30 screen version is worth it for a movie like that right yes you have to see it on the biggest screen possible there was no imax available so we started what mgr calls this epic screen oh was it epic did you enjoy the movie oh it was wonderful did you enjoy the movie oh i love you just put up a review yes i did yeah i was a huge fan of it i thought it was awesome coming from someone who's experienced uh some multiversal things do you think they got that kind of multiverse stuff right was it true to real life yes it seems so dan has traveled in multiverses of some sort yes it'll do so yes it seems like they got it pretty accurate if you ask dan housing have you ever met a different version of yourself only the ones that walk around that we just talked about yeah he's never never an actual variant of dan house there was one in australia that then
Starting point is 00:38:16 has yeah had to take care of yeah he's just i forget what his name was but he was just an australian dan house fake housing apparently he was also a Darby at one point. He's a wrestler, so we had to get rid of that. Get out of here. This isn't a franchise. No, but it could be if he wants to pay Dan Housen thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars. Yeah, that's fair. A regional Dan Housen out in Australia would be pretty good.
Starting point is 00:38:43 What about the new Batman? Are you excited for the new Batman as as a dc fan as well yes uh dan housing was not looking forward to it to be quite honest at first and then he saw the trailer and he was about himself why weren't you looking forward to it too many batmen too many batmen and also dan has not been a fan of the dc films recently yeah me neither to be quite honest. And it hurts because Batman's my favorite. I got Batman tattooed on me. He is my favorite, but...
Starting point is 00:39:10 But you have Michael Keaton in that new trailer, so that's probably going to be fun. Looks great. I'm all in on Battinson. I think he's going to be... All in on the Flash, a.k.a. Batman, the movie. Yes, I'm also in on that just because Keaton's back in it. I don't really love the flash myself
Starting point is 00:39:25 though like he's okay as a hero but the dc flash i don't love he's good in uh the cartoon justice league yes he is justice league unlimited and stuff justice league those cartoon versions are the best of the heroes i agree and you're also a fan of batman the animated series correct oh yes it's a wonderful show it's coming back you know it is and it's one of my favorite series of all time that x-men 90 97 right they're calling it is coming back yes i believe so it's a good time to be a quote-unquote nerd yes then as you would agree but yes this new batman film they think robert pattinson's gonna do a good job it kind of looks like batman mixed with seven yeah it does that's a good point seven's a great movie by the way if people have what's in the box what's in the boxes behind you dan housing hoodie there's a hoodie there all right it's not the same thing as seven then no it is not when it's out to his head it is spoilers everyone spoilers whoa
Starting point is 00:40:18 game for spider-man spoilers you get spoiled by seven speaking of nerd stuff i saw you've been doing some signings at comic cons and different kinds of expos um over the past year with the likes of mjf cm punk what's it like seeing these people that i've seen from the videos you're clearly very good friends with now that they're fighting with each other like what's it like watching that well it's quite uh the conundrum for dan housing but cm punk has always been dan housing's number one friend so i'm going to have to side with that but i have to you know loyalty also mgf seems to yell at dan housing a lot he pretends we're not friends but we are good friends yeah i mean it seems like there's a lot of people that pretend you're not friends with them like colman austin guns yeah i
Starting point is 00:41:04 was just about to say i mean they're friends of the program they've been on before they're very nice to me and they've been it seems like they've had it out for you recently why do you think that's i don't understand that house is just telling him go by your last name your father went by his last name forever and had great success in money's coming he seems to be going with it. Embracing the ass, if you will. And you know, this grandma ass has been embracing it telling the ass boys they should embrace their family name. And they are trying to go by the middle name, which is gone. The two ends.
Starting point is 00:41:36 If you could say if you could send a message to him, I'll send a message from your behalf to maybe make things better extend an olive branch, what would you say? All right. Colton, Austin, it is Dan housing. It is time to embrace the ass. Simple enough. That's good. That was good. That was good.
Starting point is 00:41:57 I think straight into the point. They even have a T-shirt because of Dan housing now. They do. It seems like they're making a lot of human money, right? Because of Dan housing. 75%. That. It seems like they're making a lot of human money, right? Because of Dan housing. 75%. That's standard for royalties, right? I think so, yes.
Starting point is 00:42:10 I think that's about standard. You also have a ton of unique merchandise, especially for wrestlers in the wrestling business. You've got your own zombie sailor action figure now. You've got the coffee. You've got the guitar pedals, which I'm interested in I'm a bass player myself so do you play guitar yourself or was that just a merchandise yeah yeah he did
Starting point is 00:42:34 pretty good yeah Dan hasn't placed the drums actually really but he has many friends who plays a guitar so that's why you made the guitar thing is a band housing something that we could look forward to in the future maybe you get dan has together with chris dickinson who also plays the drums and will just be a band that plays the drums and brody king can be a little thing well the the blue man group they're a band that just plays the drums right that's right so i have two drummers and you have brody king singing it'll be i'm a bass player if you know and then you can be in it too i would love to and then we need a guitar player let's play guitar i don't know and they could use the dan houzen pedal when they do yes well they have to really yeah yes that's the only
Starting point is 00:43:13 thing they could use were you incorporating like your musical influences in that pedal sound yes it has a strange sound he said i like it a weird dan has no idea how to describe it it has a very nice very evil setting but it's a weird noise so that's how it should be strange if you will yeah you are a big fan of metal music right you're you're a huge metal guy uh yeah it's dan has in like some metal stuff and some hardcore hardcore what kind of hardcore stuff are you into like uh dan has you know what do you know the band terror yeah he's half heart his veins code orange which is in the mix of the metal and such stan has its favorite uh but you know all of the odds dan as he grew up when he was coming up yeah he had been verse have heart terror he saw them all many many times
Starting point is 00:44:03 used to travel around to watch them. So I'd love to do some top fives with you, starting with your top five albums. If Dan Housen was dropped on a desert island and only allowed to listen to five albums, what is he bringing along with him? Oh my, oh we shall do... hmm, this is going to be hard, you know. Alright, we shall do Cold Orange Underneath. That one is good because it has a good mix it's a good mix of different styles in that album very nice very evil if you will very nice very evil yes oh we'll do metallica ride the lightning they just did their 40th
Starting point is 00:44:36 anniversary shows which were fantastic by the way oh you got to go no i wasn't there but they streamed them on amazon okay we'll do i hope it couldn't go gary that's one that will do that that's one of dan has his favorites of all time we shall do the gaslight anthem the 59 sound i got to see the gaslight anthem live actually they were fantastic he saw them with the bouncing souls really good yeah it's a very good life wish they were a band still i think they might be kind of but not sure maybe i hate it blacklisted heavier than heaven lonelier than god okay that's five i think that's five i wasn't counting also this will switch probably tomorrow so yeah it could be crime and stereo on there you listen to them ever no they're very good you should check them out all
Starting point is 00:45:21 of their albums are a little bit different but they're uh they're good all right i will check them out i'm really into turnstiles album this year have you heard that yes turnstile is great you like turnstile you'll probably enjoy some of the crime in stereo stuff it's not the same but it is in the same uh family if you will all right i'll check that out another top five for you the top five things dan haousen can't leave the house without. Sweater, this sweater. A little bit of red under the eyes. Let's see. Well, we left the house without a jar of teeth today, so a lot of money. Has the teeth, has that been a shortage because of the injury,
Starting point is 00:45:58 or has there actually been more teeth collecting? No, there's been less. Yikes. We're not out collecting, so, you know, it's quite difficult. Right now. Cannot leave the house without these crutches, which helped Dan housing move. And then but of course, we cannot leave the house without Davis Dan has his personal assistant. He's been helping Dan hasn't get foods and all of that stuff. He bought him
Starting point is 00:46:22 ice cream yesterday. Oh, wow. What flavor? Oreo, McBlizzard, or whatever they're called. Oh, yeah. Those are great. Fantastic. They were quite wonderful. Yeah, really good. You ever heard of McDonald's? I have.
Starting point is 00:46:33 Oh, it's a local place here. They seem to be popping up everywhere else. It's pretty good. Yeah, I have tried their McFlurries, I believe they call them. Oh, yes. Maybe that's what it is. Yeah, the machine sometimes doesn't work that's unfortunate that hasn't cursed him all right speaking of that top five things
Starting point is 00:46:52 you can do to get cursed by dan hausen oh here we go crossing dan housing swearing uh trying to housing things and tell dan has heen he's wrong, where they go, actually, it should be this housing. No, no, no, no. Dan Housen decides what's housing. Is that three? Yep, that's three. Oh, getting into Dan Housen's monies, costing him monies. And what else, what else, what else? Trying to steal Dan Housen's image, number five. Yeah, that's a good one i mean the recent one i saw in your twitter you're dealing with some creeps too oh yeah that'd be one being a creep yes you know it's actually we'll cross out that last one and we'll put it being a creep
Starting point is 00:47:34 don't be a creep don't be the creep it is horrible stop being creeps people um christmas is coming up so in the christmas what does dan Dan Housen want for Christmas? Oh, Dan Housen wants a drum set, a wood-paneled PT Cruiser. What else? He still has not gotten a blimp, and Dan Housen would like to be back on television. How is it this long and you still haven't gotten that blimp? Dave Honor never did it. Never honored that blimp? No honor?
Starting point is 00:48:05 False promises. Dan Housen would not shake their hand if he saw them. Maybe if we reach back out to The Rock, he seems to have all that seven bucks money, right? He's making movies left and right. Maybe he could get a good blimp. Maybe we could do some sort of Pee-wee's Big Adventure style movie
Starting point is 00:48:19 where Dan Housen gets his blimp. Produced by The Rock. You know, that movie really scared me as a kid. The Large March. Yes, it is terrifying, isn't it? I didn't like that. I didn't like that at all. The snakes. There's snakes in that movie. Now, speaking of Christmas, very nice, very evil things.
Starting point is 00:48:34 Santa Claus and Krampus enter a wrestling ring. Who do you think makes it out? Oh. Santa Claus seems to have some magic powers. Krampus just seems to be evil. Yeah. Believe if Santa Claus seems to have some magic powers. Krampus just seems to be evil. Yeah. Well, if Santa Claus dropped to one knee and yelled,
Starting point is 00:48:49 Hello, Krampus, and punched him in the groin, he probably would win. I think he would, yeah. That's a good one. Probably Santa Claus. Are you a fan of Krampus himself or no? Too evil? He's trying to look like Dan Hasen too much. He's one of the people who's going to be on Dan has the list of being cursed to be right honest well he he's trying
Starting point is 00:49:09 but he only has the half right there's no very nice side yeah he's too evil yes santa claus is a little bit of both another one who are your best friends in the wrestling business i know obviously egon your friend oh yes other than him who are your best friends in the wrestling oh my we're gonna get in trouble here because whenever dan hasn't gets asked something like this he's gonna forget names and just instantly blank with his brain but first two that come to mind are egon but of course and uh jake something from impact wrestling that has the text messages them all day every day about mostly action figures i assume action figures uh cartoons movies we usually uh ask each other if they've seen a new movie or a new cartoon of some sort but those two deadhousings in a group

So that one is the one Dan Housen remembers the most because I think that might be the first. Also, that is the best Batman
Starting point is 00:50:30 movie, Mask of the Phantasm. Yeah, that's awesome. It's one of the best Batman origin stories. It's just like definitive. It feels like this is the concrete one. I also love Christmas with the Joker when he cuts off the broadcast. The animation is a little bit off on that one. Is it? I haven't watched it in a bit. It is. I would watch it around Christmas. It is. Oh, that one is good too, but the animation is a little bit off on that one. Is it? I haven't watched it in a bit.
Starting point is 00:50:45 It is a weird episode. It is good, but it is a weird episode. Yeah. Do you have any favorite Christmas movies? Well, Home Alone is Denizen's favorite Christmas movie. It's a pretty good Christmas vacation. That one is nice too. Home Alone's my personal favorite. I like Home Alone. Are you into the whole Die Hard?
