Starting point is 00:02:21 card of the year we just had our first uf UFC card of the year which was awesome as well great main event Calvin Cater came up huge for Massachusetts when unfortunately the Patriots couldn't not to take a shot but he made uh you know some Patriots fans happy that night how are you Dana I'm good how are you buddy I'm doing well um I saw that you literally just announced Patty the Batty's next opponent and fight on the Dave Portnoy show so thank you for giving Barstool the scoop and everything it's going to be my first time in the uk ever when he fights there so i just wanted to ask you do you like london do you like the uk i know that's not official yet but right exactly it's not official and of course as soon as i told portnoy you know uh what's his name uh jared gordon's manager oh i don't know anything about them but fucking you know what i mean so
Starting point is 00:03:04 that's why i don't like doing that shit you know what i mean so that's why i don't like doing that shit you know what i mean yeah you always got some fucking some fucking goofball that's gonna come out and go i haven't heard anything about it call the fucking matchmakers then okay you know it's like you know somebody asked me something i look at the board that's what's being worked on so let's say that this comes to fruition and the card gets put together in London. Do you like London? Do you like going there? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:28 I love London. You know, it's one of those places that I looked at when we first bought the UFC. I looked at Mexico. I looked at UK. Traditionally, big boxing countries, you know what I mean? And I figured we'd make a big impact. And it's been awesome. You know, the thing is, too, when you have these fights in the UK,
Starting point is 00:03:45 the energy of the fans is so different because these guys are used to singing and chanting and cheering. And it's a great energy, man. If you're, you know, American UFC fan, and you've been going to UFC is all, you have to do one in England. Eventually it's, it's, it's a cool experience. I can't wait speaking of cool experiences this is our first interview of 2022 together so i wanted to go back a little bit and ask about the ufc holiday party which is always a bit of a legendary storied night right so this year you had kid rock it looked like a great time was it a great time how was the holiday
Starting point is 00:04:19 party this year it was awesome kid rock killed it He played like he was playing, you know, in a stadium of 20,000 people. Then he hung out and partied with us after. And your girl, Linnaeus, your girl, Linnaeus was the one that ran this whole Christmas party this year. She didn't have any fun, but everybody else did. Yeah. Well, who are the other like previous big guests and musicians that you guys have had for prior years for the people that don't know like the ufc always does it big oh yeah every year we throw christmas parties for my team works hard man we we grind it out over here we're doing fights every saturday you know you know late minute replacement when a late minute replacement happens uh you know so many things have to happen from production park PR. The list goes on and on. So this crew works hard.
Starting point is 00:05:07 We've had the Red Hot Chili Peppers play. We've had Snoop. We've had Gary Clark Jr. We've had Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Trying to think of some of the other. Kid Rock twice. Is he the first two-timer? First guy brought back? He's the first. Yeah, is he the first two-timer first first guy brought back
Starting point is 00:05:26 he's the first yeah he's the first two-timer has rage ever done it or no no we never we've never had rage rage would be insane i just the problem is with a rage like i gotta come up with with groups that are that everybody is into you know now as the company is getting bigger and bigger and bigger it's tough to find new acts that everybody likes you know what i mean yeah one of my killing in the name of some office workers like what the fuck is going on here one guy that i would love to be in that would be incredibly fun and i know everybody would love i've seen him twice is br's Bruno Mars. Bruno Mars. If you ever come to Vegas and the residency for Bruno Mars is going on,
Starting point is 00:06:11 you have to go see Bruno Mars live. He's un-fucking-believable. Just an absolute showman, right? Absolute showman. Incredible performer. And his whole band. It looks like they're having the best fucking time of their life while they're playing, which translates to you. And that makes you have
Starting point is 00:06:30 the best time of your life. It's, it's, it's one of the greatest live shows you will ever see. I got to see him so early on in his career. He only had like a couple of hits. He had the, I want to be a millionaire song. That was huge. And he was on a festival going right before Motley crew. So it was like me and my brother and a bunch of like you know metal heads basically and he absolutely crushed in front of that audience so like i could only imagine now when he's headlining when he's got his show i would love to see that i'm telling you right now if you're ever in vegas he has a residency that's all the time do not miss the opportunity to see Bruno Mars live. It's incredible.
Starting point is 00:07:05 All right, so we're here to talk about UFC 270, though. It's this weekend. We've got Francis Ngannou versus Gon. This is a heavily, heavily anticipated heavyweight matchup. And Ngannou's talking about taking half of his earnings in Bitcoin today. Did you see that? He wants to be paid in Bitcoin? So he said he partnered up with Cash App,
Starting point is 00:07:23 and he said he's taking half of his earnings from this fight in bitcoin fascinating yeah i know i don't know anything about that but i agree with you on the other stuff yes there's tons of drama you know built in around this fight already there's the bad blood between him and cyril gone in the camp but at the end of the day you, you have the interim champion versus the champion, two of the baddest heavyweights in the world. One guy on a five fight win streak champ and 100 percent finish rate. Incredible knockout power. Cyril gone undefeated, 10-0 and arguably the greatest technical striker in the history of the heavyweight division. So it's not like you have some uh you know knockout artist against the jujitsu guy he's got to get him to the ground these are two strikers that uh
Starting point is 00:08:12 you know this thing's going to play out over five rounds and anything can happen if it goes all five rounds i mean with these two guys it might play out over 30 seconds might play out over 10 seconds yeah i can't wait for this fight i also can't wait for the co-main event. Me too. I agree. And in the co-main event, Brandon Moreno, first ever Mexican-born UFC champion. And Figueredo, who is an absolute savage, is, you know, I just saw some pictures of him earlier. The dude is absolutely shredded right now.
Starting point is 00:08:42 In great shape, which means he's obviously taking this fight very serious. So that should be a fun one, too. And I cannot express this enough. You can't believe what a huge star Brandon Moreno is for us already. You're going to see it Saturday night when he walks into this arena. I was just about to ask, like, how much has his superstardom blown up in Mexico since he won the title? Just straight up. Not only Mexico here with the Mexican-Americans. uh superstardom blown up in mexico since he won the title just straight up not only mexico here with the mexican americans i mean when when we do appearances and brandon moreno is the guy we have
Starting point is 00:09:12 the appearance it's insane it's not only the mexican americans it's the nerds too he's he's one of us he's a guy who collects legos he builds lego sets and he made it all the way atop kicking ass it's honestly very unlikely i hear you bro i hear who do you have your eyes on for this year maybe having that brandon moreno-esque rise in the ufc oh that's a good question uh you know obviously the the low-hanging fruit the easy one to pick is uh is probably is probably hamsa chamaya i mean if this guy fights three times this year who knows what's possible with that kid. Do you expect to see him soon?
Starting point is 00:09:48 I hope so, yeah. I don't know what to expect this year with all this nutty shit going on again. So we will see. You've also got Perea on the card, who's just a back-flipping lunatic. Do you like the flips? When you're watching him fight,
Starting point is 00:10:02 and he does one of these crazy moves that are just signature for him at this point, are you like, that's awesome, like the rest of us? Or are you like, oh, what're watching him fight are you and he does one of these crazy moves that are just signature for him at this point are you like that's awesome like the rest of us are you like oh what are you doing man no i mean your fighting style whatever your fighting style is all up to you the flips that i don't like are the celebration flips off the top of the octagon and all this other stuff where you just won the fight you look great you're super marketable boom acl gone out for a year yeah that even the johnny walker like him doing the worm him getting hurt doing the worm like the the celebrations where you get injured that's a little embarrassing 100 yeah makes me great so there's been a lot of talk over the uh pay-per-view
Starting point is 00:10:42 price increase and i know this is an espn deal the ufc can't uh have control over this is there any way the ufc would be able to put together like a bundle deal for the fans that are committed to like hey i'm gonna buy every pay-per-view this year they know that is there any way that could be made yeah well i think they did i mean we just uh they just announced the deal is they do have a bundle okay they. They do have a bundle that goes along with this first, with this first pay-per-view. And I think if you, if you buy the bundle, the first pay-per-view is free. Oh, that sounds like a good deal then. All right.
Starting point is 00:11:14 So people look out for that. I got a lot of tweets about it. So everyone look out for the bundle then that, that would be definitely a good option for the hardcore fans. Yeah. I think what I need to do is address it i'll i'll put thanks for telling me that i'll put something together today and post it yeah absolutely um this one i hope you you don't uh hate me for asking this but henry sahudo has been poking his head out of retirement and saying why am i not getting this why am i not getting that i want to ask you when he retired when he initially retired a year and a half two years ago whatever
Starting point is 00:11:43 that might have been did you believe that he was actually done? Because I felt like I didn't. I was like, it feels like he's about to take a couple of years off and come back for the title picture. Yeah. No. Well, you tell me you're retiring. I believe, you know, you know, the only guy that I've really chased after was Habib. You know what I mean? Because I believe Habib retired at the peak of his career. I mean, he's the most dominant he's ever been. And, you know he's talking to a guy on social media you know going back and forth with him to mention the fact that he's not the usan drug pool and if you really want to come back what you don't do is you don't send a few tweets you have your manager get on the phone and call your matchmaker and you start doing what you need to do to get back in and fight so to take you seriously that's why the other day at the press conference, I was like, this is a silly conversation.
Starting point is 00:12:46 Why are we even talking about this? Why are you even asking me about this? Like, oh, he's getting, you know, oh, he's getting disrespected or this or that's happening. This isn't the way you do it. First of all, you need to get back in the USADA pool and get on the phone, have your manager get on the phone and get in here and get you a fight if that's really what you want to do or do you want to argue with me publicly about you know that you should have the alexander volkanovsky come on yeah and korean zombie now has that fight which is an incredibly exciting matchup like for me for a long time ufc fans for a long time zombie fans like him getting
Starting point is 00:13:20 this title shot's amazing i'm hoping that like my God, could you imagine he wins the title? That would be insane after this long career that he's had. Like, I'm actually really looking forward to that fight. I agree. And the great thing for Volkanovski, and I gotta give credit to Kevin Niole for this one, because he literally just brought this up. You know, when you look at Volkanovski now,
Starting point is 00:13:38 he's beat Holloway twice, Brian Ortega, and now he's gonna fight the Korean zombie and you know if he wins this fight too I mean wow I mean it's a serious champion yep talking about like Henry Cejudo like possibly coming back from retirement like do you look at fighters differently when they come back from retirement it's been it's happened multiple times in the UFC you know someone retires they come back Do you think their mindset changes? I don't know. That's a good question.
Starting point is 00:14:10 I mean, when you're in it, like these guys, you're in it like a Volkanovski who's taking on all comers right now. You know what I mean? He had to fight Matt twice. You know, Brian Ortega, who is an absolute savage. Now he's going into a match with the Korean zombie. This is a guy who's stamping his legacy right now. You know, when you're, when you look as good as Henry Cejudo did in his last fight,
Starting point is 00:14:41 and then you're like, you know what, I don't want to do this anymore. I'm just going to go take off. And you're, you know, you're gone for a couple you know what i don't want to do this anymore i'm just gonna go take off and you're you know you're gone for a couple years i don't know my very fighter fighter what's the latest word on dustin poirier and nate ds they've been going back and forth the ufc's been saying maybe we'll put it on right maybe that won't happen now maybe there's no word no there's no word on it yet no Is that a fight that, like, personally, would you really want to try to put that together? That seems intriguing, right?
Starting point is 00:15:10 Well, I mean, if they want it bad enough and the fans want to see it, yeah, we'll do it. All right. So it's just a holdup on the fighter's end, would you say? No, I mean, right now, I'm in the war room now. We have fights booked all the way till May 7th. Yeah, we got our whole roster laid out. This is what I always say, you know.
Starting point is 00:15:34 This machine just keeps rolling, man. Speaking of fights that may not happen, this one probably won't. I saw Mark Hunt challenge you and both Fertitta brothers to a three-on-one match in the octagon i assume you won't take him up on that challenge oh yeah yeah yeah yeah that's that sounds like that's gonna happen he wants to decide the lawsuit via fight via three-on-one fight cuckoo he's a little cuckoo that guy did you see the news about amanda nunez leaving American top team this week? I didn't see it. Um, but I, I did hear about it from Mick today. Mick told me, I don't think it's one of those things where she's leaving top team. I think she just wants to open her own gym. Do you think it has to do with Kayla
Starting point is 00:16:17 Harrison possibly signing or no? I don't think so. No, I don't think she cares about that. Let me tell you what Amanda Nunez is one of the sweetest human beings on the planet. She's she's she's she's a good person. She doesn't have a bad bone in her body. And if I had to guess, because you never know what the media and what they write and all their bullshit. I would imagine that it's a friendly split. She's going to open her own gym. You know, I know she, she loves Dan and Dan loves her. So I, I, I don't think it's a negative thing. Speaking of how things can get twisted in the media and stuff, would you ever consider doing like the Dana white show quote unquote,
Starting point is 00:16:56 like how Dave kind of does his show, the Dave Portnoy show that you were on earlier today, or do you feel like the media that you do, like you get ahead of that stuff as much as possible, just doing that. It's impossible to get ahead of the bullshit that the media comes out with. You could never get ahead of it. You know what the truth is? I really don't give a shit.
Starting point is 00:17:14 That's the truth. So, you know, there's always going to be stuff that's going to be said. There's tons of stuff that comes out that's untrue, you know, and about business and all that stuff it's just you just have to get to a point in your life where you just give a shit and i don't so yeah i hope i get to that point soon yeah it seems uh so yeah like a good place you will you're young you'll get there it's a great place to be most of the stuff that i hear that comes back to me i don't see i don't even know about it because i don't read it because i don't care i could care less you know i know what we're doing over here we do our thing and you know we keep growing the sport we keep making it bigger for everybody and
Starting point is 00:17:55 you know i tune out the most of the shit too that people that are talking shit know nothing about this sport zero they know nothing about it um the PFL recently self-proclaimed themselves as the number two MMA promotion in the world behind the UFC. Would you agree with that assessment at this point? I don't know enough about their business. You know, I don't know enough about it, but hey, good for them. All right. And then two fun questions to close us out. What is the best and worst fuck it Friday that you ever made or ever ate? The pickles. The Kool-Aid pickles were the worst. Yeah. That was the worst. Let me tell you what, the spaghetti sandwich, I'll eat that every day for lunch to never eat one of those fucking pickles again. But the surprising that the pickle pizza that I had was awesome. Very good. I would never expected that.
Starting point is 00:18:46 It was incredible. So do you like pickles? I like pickles. I don't like pickles in Kool-Aid. I gotcha. I like pickles and I like Kool-Aid, but I don't like pickles in Kool-Aid. Yeah. So what was the best one?
Starting point is 00:18:59 Was it like the pickle pizza was the best fuck it Friday you ever had or no? That's a tough one. I don't know if I could call that the best because some of the burgers that I've had. Oh, and the original fuck it Friday, the one that started everything. The fried chicken with the crispy cream donuts as the bread was one of the biggest winners ever too. The hangover fried was really good. So there's been some great fuck it Fridays. All right.
Starting point is 00:19:24 And then finally finally what is the most memorable thing you've ever done on looking for a fight for you when you look back at some of the ridiculous things that you've done on that show what's the most memorable the bull ride yeah because you wound up getting a bull too i i own like how many bulls we own now four yeah we own four bulls now four bull We own four bowls now. Four bowls? Yeah. Four bowls. Do they just have names? Do they have names? Yeah. One is White Thunder. The other one is Bling. We got F-Bomb and, and, oh God, what's, what's the other one?
Starting point is 00:20:00 I can't remember off the top of my head what, what, what the name of the fourth one is. But, yeah, my bulls just wrecked, wrecked some riders. Oh, Sour Diesel. Sour Diesel is the other one. Nice. And two of the three bulls just wrecked some cowboys last weekend. And, you know, they had to go to the hospital. But, shit, what was I going to tell you?
Starting point is 00:20:26 The bull riding on the bike? Anyway, they're out competing right now. Oh, yeah. So the guy, one of the riders that was riding them, you remember when I rode the bull that when he threw me, I skidded across the dirt and his feet landed right by my stomach. And we didn't have the proper gear on. We were like, you know know our producer on that show
Starting point is 00:20:46 anyway so we didn't have the proper gear to ride bulls but we did it and i didn't know we were actually going to ride pbr bulls i thought we're gonna ride like baby bulls or some shit so we get there we decide we're gonna do it so we do it and when his feet came down it just happened that my bull landed on the rider knocked him unconscious and broke his leg i think it looked like his leg was broken i don't know if that's a fact but when that when the feet come down on you without a doubt the dumbest thing we did and the second dumbest thing we ever did was when we went out to florida and had those boats chumming up the water and we had all those fucking sharks going in a crazy frenzy and we were swimming out there with them man
Starting point is 00:21:31 those were the dumbest things we've ever done i'm looking for a fight do you think you've gotten better with it now something dumb like that gets pitched you'll say no to it i don't know the difference is too it's like i'm so banged up It's like, remember when I wouldn't jump off the cliff in Hawaii? I literally had just got done with shoulder surgery. So it wasn't that I was, I'm not saying that, listen, I wasn't looking down and going, Oh shit, this is whatever. But all I kept thinking about is I'm going to jump off this cliff and I'm going to blow my shoulder out again and I'm going to need shoulder surgery
Starting point is 00:22:04 again. So, I mean, listen, let's just say I'm not what blow my shoulder out again and I'm going to need shoulder surgery again so I mean it's it listen let's just say I'm not what I was you know five fucking years ago I'm old and banged up you got to start carrying around a mini me you got to have a little Dana White that could do that for you now I gotta have a stunt double yeah exactly it could be your your bodyguard he looks just like you he could be your stunt double yeah He looks just like you. He could be your stunt double. Everybody says that. All right, Dana. Thank you so much for the time. UFC 270.
Starting point is 00:22:32 Looking forward to it this weekend. And, of course, a great year ahead for the UFC in 2022. Always a pleasure, brother. All right. Hello and welcome back to My Mom's Basement. It is Robbie Fox and I am here with Dr. Britt Baker, DMD. This is a long time coming. I've wanted to do this interview for a while. You were my Women's Wrestler of the Year last year.
Starting point is 00:24:01 You're my girlfriend's favorite wrestler far and away. So this is cool for everyone in the household. How are you? I've never been here. Yeah, do you like New York or do you hate New York? I don't like New York, no. But I like barstool sports, so this is cool. And I like you.
Starting point is 00:24:15 Thanks, I appreciate it. I don't like that many people, so this is great. Celebrating the Steelers going to the playoffs here. Rubbing it in Brandon Walker's face, I assume. I am. I am going to talk to him later. And I'm also going to the game Sunday. Oh, nice. Where's the game? Kansas City. Is it in Pittsburgh? Noer's face i am i am gonna talk to him later and i'm also going to the game sunday oh nice where's the game kansas city is it in pittsburgh no it's in kansas city kansas city like 20 degrees i can't wait i can't do that i got rain odds you ever heard of that
Starting point is 00:24:34 it's like when you got bad circulation yeah i'm a dentist well yeah i got questions about that later too because i got you know that's okay i gotta ask you we'll talk um talk to me about last night as we're recording this, it's Thursday, and last night you and Adam Cole on screen together, in the ring together. Yep. What was that like? You had to have wanted to do that forever.
Starting point is 00:24:52 Yeah, we did. We both wanted to do it, but we also, like, didn't want to jump the gun. Like, it had to make sense. It had to be the right time, right place, right people, right story, and this was just perfect. Did you have the kiss idea forever? No, that was Matt Jackson's idea, actually.
Starting point is 00:25:06 Oh, wow. I hate to say it. Yeah, so, but just such a fun group of guys. Like, the Bucks are absolutely hilarious. Hysterical people. I'm very partial to Adam Cole and, you know, Brandon Cutler. I thought you were going to say, I'm very partial to my own comedy as well. I'm also hilarious.
Starting point is 00:25:29 I thought that's what you were. Where were you going with that? I'm not that that funny i don't claim to be funny but uh just such a fun group of people the elite are awesome and like some of my favorite wrestlers to watch and ring performers so it's cool to kind of be linked up with them for a little bit right now yeah it's exciting you also recently came back from one of the biggest wrestling events of all time i think it was matt cardona and chelsea green's wedding what was that like who misbehaved themselves it was a big new year's eve vegas bash right in nda oh did you yeah i can't tell you anything about it absolutely i cannot tell you a thing um all i can tell you is i had a very in-depth discussion with uh the ms and dolph ziggler as to why the steelers are superior to the cle Browns. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:07 I think I got through to them, finally. I mean, we got a Browns guy here who graduated Penn State same year as you. How about that? No way. Jeff D'Lo, you know him? I don't know him personally, but I'm happy he went to Penn State. I'm sad that he didn't learn, and he's a Browns fan. Yeah, no, I think his dad's from Cleveland or something. Sad, sad for him.
Starting point is 00:26:23 That's unfortunate. Getting back into wrestling itself, your match at Battle of the Belts, awesome. Dominated the ratings as we found out today. Smoked them. It was the highest quarterly by a long shot. Now there's two women's championships in AEW. I assume last year, if I would have told you that you and the women's division is where it is, you would be surprised.
Starting point is 00:26:42 Is that true? Yes and no because i think we have a lot of you know big goals the women's division and we've we never wanted to just be settling for anything less than what it is now and we have we want to be bigger and better better everything in between and you know jade winning the tbs title is huge. She's such a megastar when she walks out. She demands attention. So to have her as our champion, it's really cool, too, because she's a rock star. She's brand new to wrestling. Crazy how new she is considering how good she is.
Starting point is 00:27:17 She's doing so well. I give her a lot of credit because I know how much I struggled early on when it just like kind of learning on TV. I at least had, what, three years of independent wrestling underneath my shoes, so to say, that I had to step on for support. But she has no wrestling experience. Yeah. So she's learning wrestling period and TV wrestling all at the same time. And I give her all the credit.
Starting point is 00:27:42 It's pretty crazy. What are those goals for the women's division and yourself for us to sit back on say January 13th 2023 and say wow I can't believe we accomplished that so I want to keep getting more women's matches on TV and look me and Riho just killed the rating so we're getting there we're getting to a point where it's not it's not just coincidence it's not main evented too main evented i've i've been in so many main events i'm losing track but um yeah it's we're really taking strides it's not it's not just coincidence that it's like oh it's a one minute jump that just so happened to be a women's segment like no people are tuning in to watch the women's matches because they want to
Starting point is 00:28:18 see the stories they want to see the matches um so i think we got to get a women's main event on a pay-per-view yeah absolutely that would be awesome as the women's champion you got to have so many challengers come in and not take the belt from you how do you build up all of the challengers and make them believable it's it's all storytelling the art of storytelling it's good versus evil but you have to you know put the little flicker of of doubt in people's minds that, hey, this champ could fall. This champ could fall right now, but I am never going to fall. No, no, obviously not.
Starting point is 00:28:49 You sent out a very nice tweet about Jerry Lynn this week. And I've had Jerry on the show, and I'm a big fan of his wrestling, but it only made me a bigger fan, like, getting to sit down and talk to him. Yeah. Like, what has he shown you? You called him a big mentor for you. Yeah. Like, what has he shown you that has been very important and vital to your career so um specifically within the last year a little bit
Starting point is 00:29:10 over a year he has been like my coach like my main coach that's who i go to for all my matches my you know promos everything he has helped me i maybe more than anyone has in the last year specifically with like wrestling and just coming into my own as an in-ring performer, he is genius. And I said in my tweet, he's really one of AEW's secret weapons. And if you rattle off some of your favorite matches in AEW, there's a huge chance that he was a coach
Starting point is 00:29:39 or had some sort of hand in it. I heard that. He's so good. Everybody loves working with him, and he's fun. Like, he just makes wrestling fun. He's very lighthearted. He tells horrible dad jokes all the time. But it's like the horrible dad joke you need to hear
Starting point is 00:29:52 right before you're about to go through the curtain. Oh, yeah. Yeah, he's the best. Break the tension a little bit. A little bit. Take a deep breath. And make him butt heads, too. We fight like dad and daughter.
Starting point is 00:30:01 We definitely have the father-daughter relationship. Over wrestling things? Over like... Everything. Yeah. Yeah, but then we, you know, we're hugging and laughing-daughter relationship. Over wrestling things? Over like – Everything. Yeah. Yeah. But then we, you know, we're hugging and laughing a minute later. I'm very thankful for Jerry.
Starting point is 00:30:09 He's the man. Who are the other mentors for you in AEW? So Chris Jericho, definitely. He has helped my career, specifically my promo skills, more than probably anybody. So did Cody early on. Kenny. Kenny Omega is more passionate about women's wrestling than anybody I've ever met.
Starting point is 00:30:29 So that's really cool. And then, I mean, I work so closely one-on-one with Tony Collin. He's, to have as much, you know, hands-on, one-on-one involvement with the talent as he does, but then still have every freaking thing else under the sun going on that he does he's it there's this man has more than like 100 in the tank that's the only way to explain how he does what he does because he's all over the place and he's 100 committed to everything that he does do you have a favorite like ridiculously excited tony khan moment that you experienced oh my my god, there's so many.
Starting point is 00:31:05 You met him. He's so excited and passionate. He gets wild and crazy about everything. The best friends told me after that parking lot brawl, he just came running down the freeway with his hands in his air screaming, let's fucking go. He does. He says, let's fucking go a lot.
Starting point is 00:31:20 This is kind of like a cool moment. It's not really crazy, but for me it was crazy at the time so he's very he's very like does not not does not like germs like you know he'll give you the fist bump not really a big handshaker guy has his hand sanitizer with him all the time he's smart right ahead of the curve smart yes um and he after the lights out match with thunder rosa so i'm covered in blood like dripping blood sweat gross he came up to me right after and gave me the biggest hug ever and he's like you're my folks I was like oh man this must have been pretty good if Tony's hugging me right now because I'm disgusting so that was cool what was like the overall backstage reaction to that match because that's one of my favorite
Starting point is 00:31:59 matches of the last year um it was as soon as we saw as soon as like cameras were off it was like everybody was on their feet and meeting us backstage right away clapping like standing ovation and like that was the first time that i had really seen that at aw i mean i'm sure it's happened before but to to see it to that extent like every the entire locker room from from top to bottom was was standing back there applauding that's really cool there was like a very adorable video of your parents reacting to you winning the title back in May. And I blogged it and everything. I thought it was so funny. What was their reaction to that match?
Starting point is 00:32:33 Oh, that was bad. My mom was trying to FaceTime me being like, she's like, is this real? Is this real? Is this blood real? So she was really upset about that. And then I didn't know that my dad had told her the blood was fake so then when i saw her what it was like the next week or so i still i still had like a cut on my head and she's like what's that i said mom you watched the match
Starting point is 00:32:56 she was your dad told me it was fake just trying to like make her calm down a little bit come on dad yeah you gotta be in on that together yeah oh that's funny um what was johnny gargano like as a as a trainer because you famously you know made crazy long drives to train with him and what was that experience like uh him and candace both it was so cool he's just so innovative like he was it for me i loved training because he would take the most like basic simple concept of like chain wrestling but make it flashy and cool. It's what he's famous for. Of course, yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:28 But he made it so easy for us, like something that anybody that was early on in wrestling, like all of us sucked. We weren't good yet. We were all still trainees. But to have that, you'd get so excited going to training because you'd just know I'm going to learn something cool today that I'm going to be able to put in a match.
Starting point is 00:33:45 People are going to think I'm flashy. And that's why I was going to Cleveland at the time. I had learned the basic. I had learned the fundamentals. I knew the headlock, the chinlock, drop down. I knew all that. I didn't know putting a little spaz, a little pizzazz on matches. And that's what he helped me with.
Starting point is 00:34:04 How long did you train with him? Ooh, I would say I trained with him up until literally until he had to leave to go to NXT, so I think it was a year, year and a half? And how far was that drive?
Starting point is 00:34:19 It was coming from Pittsburgh, from dental school, and it was anywhere between two and three hours one way. And how often would you go? Multiple times a week? Once a week? Twice a week. That's crazy. What was, like, the—I was going to ask, like, road trip snacks, but you're a dentist and you were training to be a wrestler. So, like, did you have boring snacks on the road trip?
Starting point is 00:34:36 Yeah, I was a big sunflower seed girl at the time. All right. That's, like, a good road trip snack. Yeah, and then, like, it would depend if it was, like— But you're not getting, like, sweet tarts and Slim Jims? Not at night if I was really tired because I because i couldn't stay you gotta you gotta get sugar i couldn't pull over and sleep either because i had to get back to get to class in time in the morning like i had and we would train till like midnight sometimes like we would have late night training sessions and most of the time most of the time i was really like jazzed up i was gonna
Starting point is 00:34:59 say fired up for training yeah yeah cool i can't wait and then but then every now and then that you crash and you're like oh my, my God, this is bad. I need sweet tarts right now. What were you listening to? Was it podcasts? Was it music? Man, I was all over the map with that. I get very ADD with what I'm entertained by at the time.
Starting point is 00:35:20 Sometimes it's like 80s hits. Sometimes I'm listening to Talk of Jericho. So yeah, that's... I was going to ask what kind of music you were into. Yeah, I'm a big 80s rock type of girl. Like 80s glam rock? Like Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue? So my all-time favorite band is actually Queen.
Starting point is 00:35:40 I love Guns N' Roses, ACDC kids. Okay, great, yeah. Boston, Kansas. Oh, that first Boston album. Yeah. Crazy good. I'm not picky with my classic rock music. What about movies?
Starting point is 00:35:51 Favorite movie, Burt Baker's favorite movie of all time. Pies of the Caribbean. Oh, the first one. I love. So, actually, fun fact. I love Johnny Depp, and I think he's absolutely fantastic as Captain Jack Sparrow. But I always loved when he like anybody on the show would call him jack sparrow and he would correct them and go captain jack sparrow
Starting point is 00:36:11 and i do that in my promos if anyone calls me bray i'd be like it's doctor wow that's a great poll i love pulling from like jack sparrow that's that's really cool what about uh tv favorite tv shows so for sentimental reasons i love gray's anatomy because when me and adam when we were dating we were long distance um he said like pick a tv show and we'll watch it we'll try to watch an episode tonight as like facetime on a date night and i picked gray's anatomy because it was like the longest TV show ever. Cute, cute. Yeah, but I mean, I'm such a sucker for like Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, all the cool like Netflix things that are out now. I'm a sucker for all of them. After the interview, I got to show you a picture.
Starting point is 00:36:55 My two-year-old niece was Meredith Grey for Halloween, and it was pretty damn cute. That's so cool. I want to meet her so bad. Meredith Grey is such a, like she is my role model. Oh, well she's got to come to AEW and like assist you like, uh, Rosario Dawson assisted Cody. Imagine that Meredith Gray hops the fucking barricade to help you in her scrubs. It would make sense, right? Like swagged out lab coat. It'd be great. That would be awesome. I'm going
Starting point is 00:37:22 back to the dental realm a little bit. I've got lockjaw for real. How do you fix lockjaw? Listen, am I, I'm not going to get into that because that's my finisher. That's like, I'm taking people down. So I'm not telling anybody how to fix anything, but like, I got to fix this. It's an issue. It's a recent thing. It just came out of nowhere. So how did you know? How did you know that? I don't know if it's technically lockjaw. My jaw locks up on this side, especially clicks when I eat a bag technically lockjaw. My jaw locks up on this side especially. Clicks when I eat a bagel. On both sides?
Starting point is 00:37:49 No, just on this side. So it's unilateral. Is it symptomatic, asymptomatic? It hurts? Oh, yeah. Hurts bad? Oh, yeah. I've got to pull my fucking mouth open sometimes.
Starting point is 00:37:58 Excuse my language. You probably have to get a night guard. Have you tried a night guard yet? No. Yeah, so you need to get a night guard because you're probably grinding your teeth at night. I definitely am. Yeah, you are. Okay, so that's definitely. You need to get a night guard because you're probably grinding your teeth at night i definitely am yeah you are okay so definitely definitely you need to get a night guard have it made in a laboratory don't buy one from like dick sporting those whatever those are bullshit you have a custom one made and that helps i have to sleep in the night guard too because i grind my is that uncomfortable no it takes you like a week to get used to it's so tiny
Starting point is 00:38:20 it just sits like right on your teeth oh shit i didn't expect like to have to do that my brother has to do that and he says he's not a big fan of it it's there's worse thing it's better than waking up with your like teeth that's true grind it away that's true all right i appreciate everyone listening to me just soliciting free medical advice um speaking of the the medical field like do you have fans just trying to book appointments with you now yeah really yeah is that weird it like, it's flattering. And I'm like, oh, that's wonderful. But at the same time, it's like I can't be,
Starting point is 00:38:51 I'm only in the dental office three days a week now, so I can't be wasting my time. Still three days a week? I figured it had to be like two at this point. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. That's crazy. Yep. But I need to be there like very seriously,
Starting point is 00:39:03 seeing as many of my patients as I possibly can doing, like, dental work. I can't beat signing autographs. You've got to come to a Comic-Con for that. People have asked for autographs in your office? Yeah, and, like, hey, they would come in for, like, the new patient special and just ask to take a picture. That's no good. It's like they're coming to you as a dentist,
Starting point is 00:39:21 almost like you're, like, a tattoo artist that, like, they have to, like, travel for to like travel for yeah yeah and then um can i have this yeah that's for you yeah um it's yeah so we're we're kind of getting better about filtering through yeah you have to have a system now huh yeah i feel bad because i don't want to like tell fans no but yeah i'm not there for that that's kind of awkward have you ever had like a patient who had no idea who you were and then came in another appointment like, hey, what's this picture of you with a bloody face? All the time. That happens more than anything because – so it's like 2022. When you have a new physician, you Google them. That's it.
Starting point is 00:39:56 Anybody. You like look at, hey, what's this doctor? What's the ratings? What's the reviews? What's the office look like? How's the bathroom? Is it clean? I look at that stuff.
Starting point is 00:40:10 So they'll look me up and then the first thing you see is literally my bloody face in your face so it's always a conversation like how do you like handle that like um are you like oh yeah it's kind of awkwardly get past it as quickly as you can i try to have my hygienist handle it first be like nice deal with this so and but and some of them are kind of dicks like they'll be like well uh why should i trust her to be my dentist if she has two careers like doesn't does she focus on dentistry or does she focus on that and it's like well why are you here yeah like you're obvious you obviously have some interest or you wouldn't have walked through the door yeah it's a fact all right and by the way any of your former opponents get a mouth guard yeah that's how you recover from the lockjaw.
Starting point is 00:40:48 Favorite moment that you've witnessed in AEW that had nothing to do with you or Adam? That would be cheating, I feel like. But your favorite moment that you kind of just witnessed as a co-worker or as a friend? The CM Punk debut was pretty cool. Especially him dropping your name right away, right? That had to make it even better. That was cool. That's just something you never expected to see.
Starting point is 00:41:11 I feel like a lot of the cool moments in AEW are the feel-good moments are ones that you wanted to happen so that's why they feel good. But the CM Punk debut is just something that definitely changes the tides with wrestling and you never thought you were going to see that. The buzz was crazy. Punk debut is just something that like definitely changes the tides with wrestling and it just you never thought you're gonna see that the buzz was crazy I was in Las Vegas for SummerSlam that
Starting point is 00:41:31 weekend it was the same as that Friday and just like everyone was talking to each other trying to figure out how we could get the east coast feed up and it was just like palpable like non-wrestling fans people that haven't talked about wrestling in 10 years were like all right we got to watch this we'll come to your room. Yeah, it was cool. And just being in Chicago, because Chicago is such an awesome wrestling city, always as is. Almost like the home of AEW at this point.
Starting point is 00:41:54 Like, obviously Jacksonville, Daly's place is like the home home. Yep. But, like, AEW runs Chicago. Yep, I was in all in. So I'm completely on board with calling Chicago one of the home bases. Yeah, absolutely. One thing that you would change if you could go back and you could, what would that be? In wrestling?
Starting point is 00:42:12 Yeah. Or in my life? No, just in your wrestling career. Yeah. So I guess, my phone's ringing, sorry. I guess I would have just gave myself a little pat on the back, just like, hey, everything's going to be okay. When I first started wrestling at AEW and I was a baby face and the fans were just brutal to me because I thought, I'm never going to be, I was like, oh my God,
Starting point is 00:42:42 I'm going to finish my contract and be done because I can't handle this. Fans are mean. They don't like me. It's not so much that they didn't, they didn't like me. It's like, they just weren't even giving me a chance. Yeah. Cause it's, I get it. It's my job.
Starting point is 00:42:55 It's my job to be a wrestler. It's my job to be a good wrestler. But I'm also, I was brand new to TV wrestling, like just through the gates. I, baptism by fire, hey, you need to learn how to be a TV wrestler on TV. So, like, Dynamite was my performance center. So, at the time, I would get really frustrated and just upset with, like, not even the fans, but just myself.
Starting point is 00:43:17 I'd be like, man, I suck. I can't get this. This is hard. Just I wish I would have not had so many sleepless nights and be like, hey, everything's going to come into play. Just give it time. All good things come with time. At that point, did you ever think about drastically switching your character at all?
Starting point is 00:43:34 No. Because I guess I felt like I couldn't even master the one I was trying to do. So I can't switch anything up yet, which we did. Obviously thankful now like yeah but yeah it's and i try to tell a bunch of the like new wrestlers and especially especially blessing and a curse social media like wrestlers that right away you have to finish a match or like looking to see what people are saying you can't let twitter dictate how you view yourself because you'll you will be in a downward spiral.
Starting point is 00:44:06 You will go absolutely insane. And I've been to plenty of shows where a match looks awesome and then I'll go on Twitter and people hated it. And I was like, oh, I had such a good time with that. And it's like, if you had a good time with it, you could just kind of leave it at that, right? Yeah, and it's like maddening when Twitter fans think they know what they don't know. They're like, oh, she messed that up. Or it's like, no,
Starting point is 00:44:26 that's nothing. Or like, oh, she forgot this or that. And it's like, you guys have no idea what you're talking about. But you just, you cannot let that bother you. The sooner you let that stuff be something that you just, in one ear, out the other, you are
Starting point is 00:44:41 way ahead on the road to success. I feel like that's good advice for everybody. Not just wrestlers. Not just AEW wrestlers. Just turn down the social media and you'll probably live a happier life. That's it. Final question. This is a big one.
Starting point is 00:44:54 Okay. Brett or Sean and why? If I didn't say Sean, I would get kicked out of the house tonight. I was going to say, do you have just like a – yeah. I think Sean. I mean – i'm a sean guy myself but people say that a sign of maturity is flipping to the brett side i mean like in ring like brett is absolutely phenomenal but i don't know i i i like the the entertainment the fun the arrogant you know sean michaels heel heartbreak kid i i gotta go sean all right sean and i guess this is the
Starting point is 00:45:24 actual final final final question. We ask a lot of our guests for an obscure match recommendation. So this could be a match that you were involved with or a match that you weren't involved with that you just love as a fan that you think isn't probably one of the first matches that comes to mind as far as, like, greatest matches ever. A more obscure one. I had a really fun match on the Independence Week.
Starting point is 00:45:46 I had a fans bring the weapons match with Hornswoggle. Oh, my God. I did. He fought in Rough and Rowdy. Did you know that? No. Did you know what Rough and Rowdy is? Like, we do the boxing?
Starting point is 00:45:55 Yeah. One of my dear friends is a comedian in Pittsburgh named Matt Light. Oh. He did not do well. He got knocked out by Chef. That was an all-time moment. And he wanted to come do well. He got knocked out by Chef. That was an all-time moment. And he wanted to come back in. He wanted to come back out.
Starting point is 00:46:08 And then they came back. That was like a pro wrestling moment. Yeah. And I was screaming it. They were screaming at us. We were screaming at them. He's non-athletic. The non-athletic is on his body,
Starting point is 00:46:16 but he thinks he's a wrestler. I mean, he was much smaller than his opponent. Much smaller. Guy's hilarious. You should check out his comedy. Yeah. But. He pushed my friend.
Starting point is 00:46:23 I didn't like that. No. My friend is the camera guy. But why? You should have let him fight more why didn't you give him you can't let a guy who just got knocked out fight i mean that's come on no i i think he was down for the three count for sure i i wanted that to continue i was like oh my god this would be the greatest thing of all time and the commission even was like yeah you could do it the guy that knocked him out didn't want to fight which was that was the it was like, oh my god, this would be the greatest thing of all time. And the commission even was like, yeah, you could do it. The guy that knocked him out didn't want to fight. Which was, that was the I don't blame you. That was weird, but yeah
Starting point is 00:46:50 that was, honestly. He wouldn't knock him out again, though. Honestly, yeah, he definitely wouldn't. So why not? Yeah. It was one of my favorite moments in the history of Rough and Rowdy. Really? I've commentated almost all of them. I'm gonna tell him you said that. The cut to everyone else walking back out to the ring was like, like WrestleMania 1,
Starting point is 00:47:06 like Hulk Hogan coming down and running past that guy. It was just the funniest thing. He's actually who I'm going to the Steelers game with this weekend. We're really good friends. We've been friends for a long time. Yeah, tell him we said hey. I will. No hard feelings.
Starting point is 00:47:16 That guy doesn't even work here anymore. Really? Yeah. Okay. Unfortunately, yeah. All right. This was Dr. Britt Baker on My Mom's Basement. I hope to do this interview next year and talk about how far the women's division and your career has come since then.
Starting point is 00:47:28 Sounds good. Thank you so much for having me.
