Hey, My Mom's Basement listeners.

Just stupid boys making basement noise in the basement.
Yeah, yeah.
Hello and welcome to My Mom's Basement presented by 3Chi and Barstool Sports.
I am your host, Robbie Fox, and today I have a Mysterio family episode for you.
That's right, Ray Mysterio and Dominic Mysterio.
We're going to kick things off with Dominic and then throw to Ray because that's the order in which I did these interviews.
And we kind of referenced it during them. So it just makes more sense that way.
But first, I have to tell everybody about 3G.
I have to remind you about 3G because you probably already know about the industry leader in Delta 8 THC products.
They've got vapes.
They've got edibles.
They've got gummies and more.
3Chi is the industry leader in Delta 8 THC products.
All of these products are formulated by a biochemist and made in the USA with USA grown hemp.
And 3Chi's Delta 8 is a federally legal version of THC. It's a more functional alternative to marijuana that gives you an amazing buzz and a great
body feel, but with a much clearer head and a less anxious and paranoia-filled high.
It's available online at 3C.com.
That's the number three, CHI.com.
Like I said, vapes, edibles, gummies, drink mixes.
Now you could put stuff in coffee, tea, juices.
They say don't put them in alcohol.
They don't recommend mixing that stuff because like I said, this is psychoactive. It's going to
give you a buzz, so please use it responsibly. You must be 21 or older to purchase. If you go
to 3chi.com right now and use that promo code BASEMENT, all caps BASEMENT, you'll take 5%
off your purchase. Now let's get into the first of these two interviews
with Dominic Mysterio. Hello and welcome to my mom's basement, ladies and gentlemen. It is Robbie
Fox and I am here with Dominic Mysterio, son of the great Ray Mysterio, ahead of the Royal Rumble
this weekend. Dominic will be in the match. I can't wait for this. Dominic, I want to start here.
This past year and a half, two years for you has to have been a whirlwind, right? How long did you even have the idea set in your mind that, okay, I'm
going to follow in my father's footsteps and become a pro wrestler before your debut at SummerSlam
against Seth Rollins? Oh, man. First of all, thank you so much for having me, man. I'm excited to be
here. But it's been a crazy year and a half man i can tell you that i think
the first time i was always a fan you know since i was a kid i i needed to have all the action
figures i needed to be on all the shows but i think for me what really did it was my last year
of high school i was a senior and i told my dad that i wanted to give it a shot and see just see
how it went and uh he was he was the one to tell
me he's like all right he's like I'll be the first one to know if you got it if you don't he goes
I'll let you know right then and there too and I was like all right man it's like okay so you know
next thing you know we jumped into a ring and he goes all right let's see where this goes
and uh you know the rest is history. I trained for about two and a half, three years maybe, because I started
training in about 2018. So yeah, about two and a half, no, maybe even earlier, 2017. But everything
just came so fast with the debut at SummerSlam against Seth. And it's just, it's all been crazy,
man. I'm so blessed and I'm so happy to be here. That really is crazy to see like the journey going from, okay, deciding I want to do this to three
years later, you're at SummerSlam. It's insane. And very few people have had like that experience
in the wrestling business. So like, it's a credit to you. It's a credit to how fast that you've
picked everything up. Debuting during the pandemic also had to be like a weird thing, right? Because
everyone around you is probably telling you like, it's not going to be like a weird thing, right? Because everyone around you
is probably telling you like, it's not going to be this way. Like always, it's going to be cooler
when there's a full crowd and stuff. So what was that like? And what was it like transitioning to,
okay, now there's packed arenas? Yeah, man, honestly, you know that right on the head with
that one. I was, when I first debuted, I was so pumped. I was so excited, man. Like my blood was
rushing. Like I was, I was freaking like, it was hard to stop me. Like I was so pumped. I was so excited, man. Like my blood was rushing. Like I was,
I was freaking like, it was hard to stop me. Like I was so excited. And I just remember everyone
telling me, man, just wait till we get back to live crowd. It's a different vibe. It's a different
energy. And I'm like, how could it be a different energy, man? I'm like, I have freaking loads of
energy in here. How is it going to be any different and sure enough man that first show with live crowd on that six-man tag we go out there and first thing man my blood is just boiling my I
have goosebumps everywhere and it's like I go in there and like I I have energy to run 10 matches
like it's it's absolutely crazy just the level of energy that the crowd just brings to you in there
with that whole building
just you know rumbling and it's it's it's awesome do you have a favorite moment that you've had in
front of the live crowd so far man i think i would have to say being like that first show back
you know waiting with with my dad on the side and then freaking Edge's music hitting and just him standing in the
middle of both of us with the titles on and just freaking hitting that pose with them,
like with the fireworks in the back. Fun fact too, I absolutely hate fireworks. I can't,
if we're in the back, there's like a little red light that blinks whenever there's fireworks or
pyro going to be going.
So I always cover my ears and I get in like a fetal position because I can't.
My ears are so sensitive that I just can't.
I can't do it.
I get freaked out.
So when I was out there, I remember thinking, man, I'm going to this is going to suck because I'm going to jump and I'm going to ruin the moment.
Dude, I didn't even hear the pyro.
I was just so in the moment that I was freaking lifting my hands up.
I was so excited. And that's that's one of the few, man,
I think that one, and then just being able to tag with John Cena too, man,
in the house shows, it just was crazy.
I was going to ask you about that.
Cause I was actually at one of those matches.
I was at Madison square garden for the,
it was like the September 11th SmackDown and you guys had a six man tag with
John Cena and the Usos
against the Bloodline.
So it's Roman Reigns and the Usos.
It's a great match.
I wanted to ask you, like, what was that experience like,
your main eventing at Madison Square Garden?
It's freaking – it's crazy, man.
Like, that – again, this is one of the things that, like,
I shouldn't be – I shouldn't be doing this, right?
Like, this isn't – like, I shouldn't be in the position
that I'm currently in.
And I'm so blessed and so fortunate to be in it.
But, you know, that night night it was a smackdown and we had uh it was our first time back at MSG and I remember I wrestled Sami Zayn that night and uh I was so excited because I
wrestled uh I wrestled at Madison Square Garden you know it's everyone's dream and uh next thing
you know something something happened where we were like, Hey, you guys are in the, in the dark match now with, with Sina.
And we were like, all right, cool.
Like, and then Vince and Vince is walking out and he goes, what's better than wrestling
at the garden.
Once he goes wrestling at the garden twice, I was like, I was like, hell yeah, man, this
is awesome.
Let's go out there and do it.
So, you know, we went out there and rock the house again.
That's awesome.
You did rock the house place was going wild for that match and you like spent
90 of the match in the ring so it was like awesome for you to get that experience too
yeah thank you man yeah they're beating the hell out of me but it was fun yeah um so you have been
teaming with your dad for a while now i'm a huge fan of you guys as a duo and i'm a huge fan of
your gear as well i'm like such a fan of just
professional wrestling like attire gear and stuff you guys have some of the best i wanted to ask you
where did you get the idea for like what dominic mysterio is going to look like in the ring i
assume you didn't want to just do the same thing as your dad you wanted to make it a little different
where did that come from so i was uh i'm a big comic book guy man like uh and a big movie guy
so um i get a lot of, I had an idea of
what I wanted to do. And I remember I had presented it to my dad, like what I kind of want and what my
outfit is. And he just, that dude is, is other than being a genius in the ring, he has a creative
mind. That's like, he'll, he'll just start coming up with things like he he's he's not the greatest
artist but you can he can draw you know and he just started sketching some things together just
putting it together and then he sent it to one of his guys to like kind of just finishing it up
and dude they kind of just put it together for me and it was it was like like I just looked like a
badass Power Rangerpool mix like which
is kind of what i was going for anyways you know and uh you know everything just kind of fit
together and um we tried to we try to incorporate the mask in there but like people already knew my
face so we went with the hood and actually i have i have a couple of my my outfits all right here
just kind of oh yeah yeah so we got look. Really? It looks like a superhero's closet.
It does man. A little bit, right. You got all different colors you got,
you know,
but I got a couple in there that you guys haven't seen.
And then a couple that are some classics now that I like to call.
What's your favorite set that you've worn?
And I think my favorite set that i've worn my my summer slam 2021
when we faced the macho man that's my favorite i was hoping you're gonna say that because it's
my favorite i've only worn it once man and i've i've been dying to wear it again for my dad like
every every outfit that i get is to match his because he has he has all the colors possible and it's like you
walk into that you it's like walking into a store man it's like you got two stories of just like
outfits and it's freaking absolutely nuts so I go in there when I go visit him I go in there and
I'll pick some color schemes to match and then I'll just I'll get that outfit made and I'm like
hey pops I'm taking this color he'll look for it and I've told him before I'm like hey man let's uh let's take that summer slam gear and he goes no no no let's save
that so he likes he likes to be very particular with his gear and what he wears but he has so
much that i'm like dude i'm like i have like 10 outfits maybe yeah he has like he has over
hundreds so it's like for me to match his is kind of hard so i gotta work with what i got yeah got. Yeah, absolutely. And we're here to discuss the Royal Rumble. So I want to go back to the Royal Rumble 2006. Your father wins it. What do you remember about that match? Were you watching live? I assume you were. when I saw Triple H dragging him out of there because I remember it was it was RVD my dad
Randy and Triple H yeah I said I was so excited man I was like all right what's gonna happen here
next thing you know Rob goes out I'm like crap my dad's screwed I was like there's no way this is
and then Triple H goes out and I'm freaking ecstatic. I'm like, he's winning it. This is a done deal. Next thing you know, he gets dragged down and thrown into the steps. I'm the most pissed off kid in the world. I'm like, it's done. It's over. There's no hope here. I started walking away. And then my mom was like, Dom, Dom, Dom. Come back running. Pops is eliminating Randy, man. And it's just, just it's freaking it's so awesome and like just
revisiting that right now it's like it's pretty wild to think that i'm gonna be in this in this
upcoming rumble you know with my dad and that's uh again man it's another position that i shouldn't
be in and i'm just blessed i mean you guys were in a very similar position last week when you went
to eliminate him he went to eliminate you it's almost like the ending of that 06 Rumble. Did you have like a real hatred for your dad's rivals when you were little?
I wouldn't say a real hatred, but I was pretty upset.
They could piss you off?
Yeah, yeah. I was one of those kids that I could get emotional about it.
Like back in the day too, I've mentioned this in the past.
My first memory of my dad wrestling is him getting smacked in the head with
the guitar by Jeff Jarrett man I was so pissed like things like that just just you know lit a
fuel under me and um even when he had his uh his his uh what was it with Miz back in the day like
I could not stay I I'm telling you I could not stand the Miz and I would I would go I would go
to the back and I'd travel with my dad and I would see the Miz and I would, I like, wouldn't want to say hi to him. And he would
come up to me. Yeah. Cause he, he, he would know to like, you know, make me angry. And he's like,
it's your favorite wrestler right here. And I was just like, man, like it's, it's not you.
It's not you, but he would, he would carry that on, man. But I would definitely remember getting
upset with certain people, um, when they would do things to my dad for sure oh man that's funny do you have a favorite match
of your dad's um so i have a couple favorites there's uh his his matches with undertaker are
just pretty special to me just because um you know no one no one makes tager bleed like that
yeah you know and my dad did it twice
on accident but one of those were at the rumble right so it's like yeah i'm talking about the
rumble there you go back back at it again um but just his matches with edge too you know back in
the day his tag team matches with him and edge versus you know the basham brothers or m&m like
he just he was so good man and um but I have so many matches that I could I
could just keep going yeah I'm sure and I'm sure you've been asked this before as well but the
custody battle storyline as that's going on were you kind of kayfabe in your friends like that was
in August right so you go back to school the next month I assume every single kid in school had
questions for you were you kind of like keeping your distance with what you were telling them?
I mean, I didn't even know very much, man.
As a kid, I was just kind of, I knew what I was told basically.
But I think more than the kids, the teachers were very intrigued.
They didn't know if it was like actual TV or if they were concerned about who I was going home with.
Because they would ask me if my home life was okay, if I was like actual tv or if they were concerned about who I was going home with because because they would they would ask me they would ask me if my home life was okay if I was good
I'm like yeah I'm fine man like I'm barely coming to school I'm traveling with my dad like I'm
I'm I'm this third grader just having the time of his life like not going to school half the time
um but yeah you know the kids too they were it would get a little like annoying at times because
they're like who's your real dad man is it eddie or is it ray i'm like dude i think it's ray you
know i i'm pretty sure it's him you know i've known him since i was a kid but then it's like
man i've also known eddie since i was a kid like he's been coming over and spending the night at
our house since like i could remember like i'd wake up and have breakfast with this guy like
like it was nothing you know so it's like it made it made me think as a kid too and I'm like man you know
I think it is I think it is Ray but I think what the funniest part was the teachers you know the
teachers getting getting into it as well like making sure that I had a good home life definitely
I saw they're they're making an action figure of third grade you did you see that like what are
your thoughts on that I thought it was so funny they put out the prototype and it i mean it looks like you from summer slam 05
it it does man that to the shirt to the baggy pants and everything um it's it's honestly so
surreal man like to have my my own action figure like i'm pretty sure i am the only wwe superstar
to have an action figure as an adult and as a kid have to be like you have
to be yeah I don't I don't know of anyone else that would have an action figure as a kid you
know what I mean and it's like again that like I shouldn't this shouldn't be happening man and I'm
so fortunate to be in this position and it's it's honestly it's it's pretty crazy it's crazy I
remember watching SummerSlam 05 like it was yesterday because your dad is my favorite wrestler. Absolute favorite. So like I'm watching that and on your behalf, you're a year older than I am. So I was terrified for you. I was like, Eddie's going to win this fucking ladder match and this guy's going to have to go home with Eddie. What's going to go? Like I was absolutely terrified. And then obviously when Ray wins, it was a huge relief for me. I could take a big deep breath. I was like, all right.
Yeah. He's going gonna be in good hands exactly yeah besides your dad who are the wrestlers that inspire you
the most when it comes to your in-ring style man I would uh I would say I watched a lot of so
growing up I watched a lot of the WCW cruiserweights you know I try to even though I'm I'm
a little bit bigger than my dad um I tried to, you know, imitate his style or just
kind of take from him. But I think, you know, a lot of the guys like my dad, Eddie, Psychosis,
Juventud, Dean Malenko, I grew up watching those. So I think, you know, just casually,
I picked up their style a little bit. But I think also just, you know, now growing up and like
realizing what's, what's good for me, what's benefiting me, not just what I like, you know,
the work style of Randy, the work style of Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, like these are just
like some legends that like, I've been studying now, like, you know, Ricky, Ricky Steamboat, Roddy Piper, like, like I'm just I'm going back and watching all these classics now that I not I didn't really.
I watched as a kid, but I didn't appreciate it.
So now it's like a different appreciation and understanding for it that I'm starting to pick up and, you know, kind of mimic and, you know, do certain things like they do.
Who are the people that you would go to today backstage for advice?
If you were seeking advice and you're like, I don't want to go to dad for this one.
Like who is someone that you would go to?
So me personally, I'm not, I'm very, I'm a shy dude, man.
I'm not the type of guy to like go up to someone and like ask for it,
even though I know that's what you're supposed to do.
But I think some of the guys that have been just super helpful overall have been guys like Edge, Randy, a lot of the producers in the back, Hurricane, Jason Jordan.
Just a lot of the guys that just kind of give me kind of give me like help with what can do better,
like intensity, opening your eyes, things that the cameras are looking for. Um, and, you know,
guys from like edge and Randy that like, if they have the time, cause they're, they're busy
throughout the whole day. If they have time and they're, and they're able to watch, you know,
what we did on, on TV, like our match, they'll, they'll let me know. They'll, they'll, you know,
give me their advice or what they thought or, you know, little things here and there, but, um, you know, I, it's, it's just crazy
to, to be able to think that I can go up to these guys and, you know, just, you know, pick their
brains and, um, there's a time and place for it. And I think, uh, when, when that time and place,
um, appears that I definitely go ahead and pick their brains. Yeah. Do you ever work with Pat
Buck? I do. Uh, buck i do uh there's been
there's been a couple times um where where we did some things with him um not it's been very very
minimal but uh it's uh yeah it's a it's very uh it's been very very small but i've definitely
gotten to work with pat he trained me i want to i wanted to be a wrestler so he trained me for a
summer when i was in high school and then i was like like, Oh, I'm not cut out for that.
I mean, look at my frame, you know, this isn't for me, but we've kept in touch.
He's a great guy.
So like, I always like to hear that.
Yeah.
That's awesome.
Who are your dream opponents in the WWE?
Man, I have, uh, I, I would say I have a lot of dream opponents just because, um, I'm hungry
and I, I, I want, I want them all. But I think off of just because of the legacy and the lineage
and the Hispanic culture that we carry, I think anyone between me against Escobar from NXT or even
Garza and Humberto from SmackDown, those matches those matches would just be, you know, for me, like, that's something that we could do for the culture, for us.
But I think the bigger picture would be, I would love to get my hands on Seth again, man.
Like, he got me at the very beginning, and I think it would be cool to be able to step in the ring with him now, you know, after what I've learned, have a couple matches under my belt.
I'm a former tag team champion now, so i think it would be a different story i don't know if it
would be a different outcome because i mean seth is that dude but would definitely be a different
match for sure be full circle yeah yeah you know most definitely and like i've said this before i
think uh as long as seth is still you know in the wwe with us i i think i'm gonna be seeing a lot of them i would
love to he saw me at the beginning i'm gonna see him sometime in the middle and i know i'm gonna
catch him at the end somehow so uh we'll see but seth is one guy randy another dude man like why
wouldn't you want to be in there with with one of the best to ever do it you know him roman uh i'd
love to get in the ring with Riddle um another another one for
the culture Damien Priest like there's just so many guys man that I'd love to work with but you
know all in due time yeah who do you think the funniest member of the WWE roster is
man other than I think R-Truth man R-Truth is just he's just naturally that like what you see
on tv is him that's that's 100 him and it's like i've heard that before that our truth is the
funniest backstage yeah dude it's like he you can you not only is he the funniest but like when he's
not around you'll know when he's around like his laugh his laugh is just so like you know it's like oh
man like that's that's ronnie we know that we know that's like a presence in the room for sure man
and he's uh he's a good dude too i mean i'd love to get in the ring with him too before uh you know
he he decides to hang it up but that would that would be another fun one yeah what a career he's
had he's been in wrestling for so long and he's been so good for so long it's crazy and finally if i could knock down that quote-unquote forbidden door for
you and allow you to face one person that's not currently in the wwe they don't have to be in any
company they could be a free agent if someone that's just not currently in the company who
would that be for you hook oh that's a great answer that i mean two second generation superstars there yeah
yeah i think that'd be a fun one um you know again for the culture i think uh penta and phoenix
me and my dad against penta and phoenix man i think we would freaking knock the doors down and
just bring the house down anything possible man i think
we would freaking tear down those guys yeah um i think andrade would be another one he uh he left
us but i think he would be another one punk yeah um there's like sting that had a great
wrestlemania match against punk yeah yeah like man it's just
there's so many guys man that i would love to you know work with but we'll see we'll see what the
future holds man yeah of course it's wrestling in 2022 so you truly never know what's gonna happen
it's it's the wildest time that you know i've ever been alive for in the business so dominic
thank you so much for uh joining ahead of the royal rumble this has been a blast it's been a pleasure getting to talk to you pick your brain a little bit about wrestling
i wish you all the best in the future all the success in the world thank you very much robbie
appreciate you and thank you guys for having me again i thought that was an awesome chat i really
appreciate dominic for joining the show and now let's throw it to a short little chat with his father, Ray Mysterio, talking all about his history at the Royal Rumble.
Hello and welcome to my mom's basement, ladies and gentlemen. It is Robbie Fox and I am here with Ray Mysterio.
It is an honor. It is a pleasure always when I can sit down with Ray and get to pick his brain about the business a little bit.
We are here ahead of the Royal Rumble. It's going to be this weekend. I can't wait. Ray,
how are you doing? Very good, Robbie. Thank you, man. Thank you for having me. I heard you just
had Dominic, huh? I just had Dominic. Yeah, they're going to be, when people are listening
to this on the podcast, they'll be together. So they could listen to Dominic and Ray together.
It'll be amazing. To begin, so this podcast is a bit nerdy. We call it My Mama's Basement. And
the last time you were on it, you had just seen Spiderman far from home so i want to ask you have you seen spider-man
no way home believe it or not i have it man and i've heard so much good feedback and uh i'm like
i usually if it's a movie that catches my attention i'll wait for it to come out and watch
it at home you know because now you have the accessibility to do that.
But that one, for some reason,
everybody was telling me that it was off the hook, man,
and that I had to go see it at a theater.
So I haven't been able to check it out, man,
which I'm really upset at myself for that.
It's devastating.
You might be the last person on earth that hasn't seen it.
Jesus.
So we are here to talk about the royal rumble as i mentioned and you were
a former royal rumble winner in 2006 this was the highlight of my childhood i feel like because you
were my favorite i thought there is no way he could win at number two right the odds are stacked
against him he's got to last the whole match my brother my older brother sitting next to me saying
no way no way and then you wound up
winning it what do you remember about that night 2006 the royal rumble i think that's what makes
the royal rumble so special because you never know who's gonna take it you can have uh your pick but
it doesn't necessarily happen that way you know um there's only been two superstars in the history
of the wwe that have come out in number one and number two.
The first one was Shawn Michaels when he came out at number one and took it all the way to the end.
And of course, the second one is myself, you know, coming out at number two and then winning it.
It was a special moment, man. Very special. From the moment I arrived at the arena, you know,
obviously you don't know who's going to win until later that day.
And of course, when you get the word, it's like, damn, you just don't want to give it away, you know.
But it was it was a perfect moment, man.
Eddie had just passed in November. You know, this was January.
A lot of fans still to this day would see Eddie through me, you know, because of the connection
we had, even, even though we finished off our rivalry at SummerSlam in August before he passed,
you know, and we were rivals, but they remembered more of the connection that we had than the
rivalry over Dominic's custody, which was very special. So you can only imagine you know some so many feelings
piled up going into this rumble but a very special one without a doubt and it's very very high it's
on my top three you know in my career yeah you mentioned not knowing like that you were going
to win the match till you showed up later that day did you know that you would be entering number two
earlier or was that a total surprise as well that that that
was a surprise as well you know entering number two and then taking it all the way to the end
so uh yeah man it was very very uh very hectic moment and because you know you had to throw on
your wrestling shoes that night uh you know and perform at a high level so uh it was it was a good
time yeah you had to be in that match for a record-setting amount of time.
That's pretty daunting, like over an hour.
It's crazy.
A few years later, in 2010, you take on The Undertaker at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
This is one of my favorite matches of your entire career.
I think it's phenomenal.
I just looked up the Wikipedia page.
I think it's under 12 minutes, which stunned me because it feels like a war.
This feels like just a fight.
It's awesome.
What do you remember about that match?
That was a very special match for me as well.
You know, to be able to be in there with the master, you know,
the legend himself, the undertaker, pretty scary, not going to lie.
You know, nerves were racked and stacked.
You know, you just want to,
you want to make sure that you're able to perform at your
highest peak, you know, because you're in there with one of the all-time greatest. So, you know,
I was so nervous, but at the same time, very confident of myself and what I could bring to
the table. And to be able to step in there with Undertaker and just pick his brain, just like you're picking my brain right now, you know, was something very unique, very special.
And he's he was so he was so freely with with advice and and just guidance, you know, overall throughout the match that I just had my ears open.
And I've been like that with everybody that that I that I just had my ears open and I it's I've been like that
with everybody that that I that I that I respect of course but uh that want to lead the way and
I'm just right there behind them you know uh taking um taking their lead you know something
very very special Undertaker without a doubt I think definitely one of my top three matches
you know,
next to the one that I had with Kurt Angle at SummerSlam.
Oh my God, such a great match, yeah.
And another rumble that I want to ask you about,
and this one is not necessarily like a Rey Mysterio career highlight per se,
but it's just a crazy event in the history of wrestling.
It's 2005.
You were in this match, and it obviously has the insane chaotic ending
of Batista and John Cena go over the top rope at the same time.
Vince runs out, and he tears both of his quads.
Were you in the back when that happened with everybody just being like, oh, my God, what the fuck is going on?
Yes, I was.
And we were all going, what just happened?
What happened?
Because we knew something had happened right there with the finish but uh it was controversial you know uh but when Vince walked
out and and we were just kind of handing to the monitor what's gonna happen what's gonna happen
and we see him slide in then him trying to get up and he goes back down like what's going on here
and then of course we got the news later that uh he had torn both of his quads like how is that
even possible crazy crazy but there you go man you. You can see the brute strength that he has and just the tenacity and just,
you know what I mean?
To go out there and do his thing and not even complain one second, you know?
It's crazy.
He was back around like a week or two weeks later, you know? So yeah,
very crazy times.
I thought for a minute,
I thought you were gonna ask me about the rumble
where I came out and they started booing me,
which was very weird.
Listen, you're one of the goats.
So I didn't wanna bring that up.
I was gonna, 2018 made up for that, right?
When you had that big debut,
the big surprise return in Philly.
I was at that one as well. So, you know,
I was losing my head as the right Mysterio mark that I had to make up for
it. Right.
Now that was that now that one was very special because I had been gone for
about four years, you know,
and the other thing that makes the rumble so special is the surprise
entrance. Who's going to be the one who's coming out.
And of course, for it not to leak out.
And I remember flying into new york that day
and then driving to philly so no fans would would spot me out at the airport and uh sure enough i
pulled into the arena went straight from the car service into a bus and they kept me there until i
had to make my entrance so it was very very special man the reaction of the fans especially
when you don't know who's gonna be it you know that was a
total surprise it really was that didn't leak anywhere you had great gear that night too the
black and yellow gear was awesome yeah thank you thank you man yeah very special yeah no that was
awesome and here's another one so this isn't a royal rumble but it was wcw's version of the royal
rumble they had the world war iii battle, and you were a part of that in 97.
This is a 60-man Battle Royal,
and it always looked like a clusterfuck.
Was it always just a bit of a mess?
It was.
Okay, I'm glad I'm writing that assessment.
During those times,
you just stuck with the people
that you knew you can have a good time with,
and you just mingled with them,
play over,
try to send them over to the top rope,
or vice
versa but uh i actually remember having a match where i used both of the rings to spring from one
ring to another to do the frankensteiner which was very special for me as well of course yeah yeah
yeah i mean it's a cool environment but the matches just always look like oh my god how do
you even put that together yeah imagine backstage Imagine backstage. And finally, I asked Dominic these two questions and I want to get your answers as well. The first
of which is who do you think the funniest member of the WWE roster is? Um, funniest member. I love
our truth, man. Dominic's answer. Really? Yeah. Really? Our truth is, is a character character but i'll tell you what man the more
i start to get to know riddle more and more he's he's a special cat i love him yeah yeah absolutely
and then if i could knock down the quote-unquote forbidden door for you and i could say you're
allowed to wrestle anyone that's not currently employed by the wwe who would your pick be man even if they're no longer here even if they're no longer here sure oh yeah macho man macho man man that was that was
a dream match of mine uh macho uh or bret hart you know one or the other man that was just something
that i really wanted to happen are you a bright guy when you go brett and sean um so so when when uh like i never would have
imagined that i would be able to step in the ring with sean and of course uh the tribute to eddie
was against sean and there was a special moment there that so special that we had to repeat it
down the road and it did happen but um yeah without a doubt sean that was taken care of but
it was either macho or
brett man and brett i was a brett guy yeah we talked a little bit about macho man me and dominic
because i asked him what his favorite set of gear that you guys have worn together was and he said
it was the macho man inspired gear at summer slam and i was happy about that because also my favorite
set of gear you guys wore that one was some of the best the yellow and the pink so good yeah thank
you man i even had some boots made with the stars on the side, man.
His gear was just so special, you know,
and not to mention the way he moved back during that time, you know, 80s.
I mean, who was coming up to the top rope and coming off with the axe handle
or just grabbing your opponent, running across the ring,
then jumping over the top rope and giving him a hangman, you know?
It's just stuff like that, man. made a macho man very interesting to watch you know what's so
amazing to me is watching back his career some of the matches that he would pull out of some other
guys like the wrestlemania 7 match against the ultimate warrior we all know ultimate warrior
is a legend but he wasn't necessarily uh dean malenko in the ring right right and you watch
what macho man was able to get out of him in that match
the emotion that they were able to get out of the final you know spot with Miss Elizabeth coming
into the ring and reuniting with him it's really astonishing to see what he did he was so ahead of
his time way ahead of his time and another guy that was just like that was Tiger Mask like when
I would see Tiger Mask in Japan I was in Mexico you know early 90s and I was I was in Mexico, you know, early 90s. And I was trying to imitate, you know, a lot of his moves.
Like, this is incredible, you know.
Now, we're talking late 70s, early 80s.
So you can only imagine.
But yeah, Macho Man was just a special breed, man.
It's very hard to see that unfold once again during our lifetime.
And he brings a full circle with Spider-Man, right?
I mean, he was in Spider-Man 1.
He was Bonesaw, right?
So this interview has been brought full circle.
Ray, thank you so much for the time.
I'm looking forward to the Royal Rumble this weekend.
And hopefully I'll catch you in the future.
Sounds good, Robbie.
Anytime, man.
I'm here, man.
Thanks, Ray.
Oh, yeah, guy.
Thanks, Ray. It is always a pleasure getting to talk to one of the goats right there, Ray. Oh, yeah, guy. Thanks, Ray.
It is always a pleasure getting to talk to one of the goats right there, Ray Mysterio.
I will catch you guys on Wednesday with an interview with Rampage Jackson.
