Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey My Mom's Basement listeners, you can find our episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube, and Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music. Hello and welcome to My Mom's Basement presented by Barstool Sports and an on-the-road edition of My Mom's Basement. If you're watching on Rumble or YouTube, you may see a hotel room behind me, not my usual setup. It's an on-the-road edition from D.C., I mean the nation's capital, for pop-punk. Probably tonight as you're watching this, I don't know if it'll go out on Thursday or Friday. It's an on-the-road edition from D.C., I mean, the nation's capital, for pop punk. Probably tonight as you're watching this. I don't know if it'll go out on Thursday or Friday. We're playing D.C. Union Stage on Friday night.
Starting point is 00:00:35 Philly the next night, whether you're listening to this tomorrow, whatever it is. Philly Underground Arts, come out to the shows. But Clem, how we doing? Doing good. You guys saying you're on the road, I almost think of you guys as like the muppets on the road i i think i think what for one of maybe not the next pop punk music video in the next three we need an actual just all muppets where you guys are all oh my god i would love that i was i swear to god i was thinking that we're the muppets last night this is how synced we are with our brains like we we did three shows so far in the story we did chicago columbus and nashville all three of them sold out like that and it was just like oh my god people want
Starting point is 00:01:11 the return of pup punk like they want the return of oasis amazing and then the last two shows these two shows are not sold out they're still not sold out so there's tickets available pup punk rocks dot com do all that but i was thinking like i feel like the Muppets right now, last night, I'm like, I can't sleep because I'm thinking of ways to sell tickets. And I'm like, this is the kind of shit the Muppets would do. Like we're getting shut down. We got to put together the greatest show of all time. I was like, man, we really are the Muppets sometimes, but yeah, pretty crazy stuff. Uh, come to the shows. They're, they're not like, it's not like we're not selling any tickets, but they just didn't sell out like the other ones did. So there's like that part of you that's like oh we're worried is anyone
Starting point is 00:01:47 gonna show up they'll show up it'll be great dave what's dave gonna think and then dave's like oh you guys are still doing pop-up like that's like as a band yeah and it's in the boss's mind um before we get into our normal topics marvel dc some random stuff movie stuff i do feel like i should mention the thing that i've wanted to happen the most in my entire life for like probably like seven or eight years at this point happened oasis are getting back together liam and noel gallagher have put their differences aside they put up the post the guns have fallen silent the time is now it's happening this This is history.
Starting point is 00:02:28 I did a podcast with Nate all about this because we're just obsessed with Oasis. Like I said, like my fiance said, this is the thing you've wanted to happen the most since I've known you. And I'm like, correct. So this is huge news in my life. I mean, you even texted me just being like, I'm so happy for you. And I got so many of those texts like it was like my birthday or something. It's one of those things that when something like that happens and you just get texts, sometimes you get texts from people you haven't heard from in years or, you know, like an
Starting point is 00:02:50 old buddy. And they're just like, I just want to let you know, I'm just, just thrilled. And I don't know what else to put it. Like, I like a bunch of Oasis songs, but it's, it doesn't, it didn't move the needle for me. Now, as a story, it was one of those things that like, it did feel like it was coming for like the last year or two but before uh i don't know which ones which whatever the the real asshole or broke up with the asshole girl i think they're both assholes in their own right once that happened it felt like you know the reuniting might actually take place but it was
Starting point is 00:03:20 one of those things it's like uh it's almost like a meme at this point where it was like oh yeah never gonna happen so uh it's one of i mean still It's almost like a meme at this point where it was like, it's just never going to happen. So it's one of those things. I mean, still, they announced shows for summer 2025. It's like, knock on that fucking – I know people say don't knock on the desk. Knock on that fucking wood for Liam and Noel. Everyone, keep driving. Watch out.
Starting point is 00:03:37 There is a lot of time before July 4th, I think, is supposed to be the first show in Cardiff, Wales, which I'm already like, no matter what, I will be there. I will do the least American thing in the country on July 4th. I'm going to Wales to see a British band, but I have to be there for the first show because as I mentioned, what if they're broken up by the second show? So you got to be there for history. But if you want to hear more about that, listen to me and Nate, we did like 45 minutes on it and the podcast did pretty well. And I was like, maybe, you know, we're not going to go full Taylor watch and do like
Starting point is 00:04:07 an Oasis podcast weekly, but maybe every now and then if news comes up, me and Nate will hop in the basement and we'll have like, I like having little sub shows in my mouse basement. Like this is the main show with Clem. We've got from the top rope with Jared. We've got like little episodes and sub shows under our umbrella. I kind of like having that. The dog watch.
Starting point is 00:04:27 The dog watch. The dog watch. I love it. Beware of dog. Yeah, we have that sign in the basement. All right, let's get into some news items. It's been two weeks since we did a show, so we have some stuff that has happened, you know, broke over the last two weeks. The first thing that I want to discuss though, just came out yesterday. We saw the first image of the thing from the fantastic four first steps,
Starting point is 00:04:50 which I really didn't think we would see any image of the thing till much later on. Cause I thought they would go full CGI with them. They're not going full CG. We see a physical thing. He's in the space suit, which I think looks frigging awesome. My favorite part of it. I texted you and Jose right away. I was like, they nailed the brow line, which I liked the physical thing suit from the first fantastic four. I actually think it looks pretty good, but the brow line doesn't look anything like the comics. They got a little closer with the CGI one from the horrible fantastic four movie.
Starting point is 00:05:19 This looks like they pulled it straight out of the old school comics. And I like that at least some of it will be practical. I don't think the whole movie he's going to be in the fucking, you know, suit like that. But they're doing practical, I would assume, for reference. And then they'll CGI the facial expressions or shit like that. But another thing that I said to you and Jose, it's just giving this whole movie a different look and feel than the rest of the MCU. And I think throwing it back to the 60s really helped them in that way. Yeah, throwing it back to the 60s really helped them in that way. Yeah, throwing it back to the 60s helped
Starting point is 00:05:45 and you forget because we've had the other Fantastic Four movies. We're getting one that's getting the foggy touch, the love of the Marvel people. It's such an important comic in Marvel history that they're not going to fuck this one up.
Starting point is 00:06:02 You know, there's, let's be honest, there were some fuck-ups the last few years. There's going to probably be some fuck-ups in the coming months. They're not fuck this one up. Let's be honest. There were some fuck-ups the last few years. There's going to probably be some fuck-ups in the coming months. They're not messing this one up. This one is going to get all the love and attention to it and just that brow. It's like the little things that the nerds pick up on it. Yeah. It looked perfect.
Starting point is 00:06:20 It was like, oh, my God, it's fucking clobbering time now. It got me so excited. I'm not even like a thing guy i like the fantastic four i like the thing but i can't claim him as like a guy i've ridden for forever but seeing that i was like oh shit i'm gonna become a thing guy in this movie he's cousin come on everything about him like i'm a ben grim guy now you know like when they were designing everything fight he's all right or now we have the brow right right like he was like that's just the little things they have to do you know reed reads his little streaks his little poly walnut streaks are going to have to be perfect there's certain things the the wolverine claws coming out to sneak
Starting point is 00:06:54 he's gonna have to have that when they had him so there are certain high water marks for certain characters or franchises in the marvel universe and it it's like, again, it's like, all right, I feel at ease with this project going on right now. Because there's no, there is no, I don't think there's no lock that it's going to be perfect. Just because we had a lot of fun in Deadpool, Guardians was good, doesn't mean that they're going to just suddenly start going on a winning streak.
Starting point is 00:07:22 I do feel like Marvel's going to go on a winning streak here, but I do think we're taking some losses in the near future from the stuff that's already been filmed and edited that's coming out beforehand. So I'm just looking ahead. I'm looking ahead in the schedule. It's like a football schedule. I know we got a win coming up in whenever it's coming out.
Starting point is 00:07:41 And like you said, they're definitely about to go on a streak. It's just hard to tell if they're currently on the streak because they do, like you said they're definitely about to go on a streak it's just hard to tell if they're currently on the streak because they do like you said they had like guardians and they had deadpool and stuff but it's like yeah we won two games we can't really call it a streak yet like we don't want to say that s word yet but we're on streak watch streak watch yes definitely they had like three bye weeks somehow in between games i don't know how that's possible but it's like all right thank god yeah we really got to regroup you know make some roster moves here there uh we got that guy kang out of the locker room and let's go yeah it's almost like they had their schedule
Starting point is 00:08:14 and there was supposed to be other games in between those two games and they're like no no we're just gonna move those back we're gonna like rework the game plan and like hey you guys can move it back it's funny how it works. Cause I'll tell you right now, there will be no streak. There will be no streak watch. If I think they hadn't done a little shuffling here. Right. We can agree on that.
Starting point is 00:08:32 Yeah, absolutely. And there's a lot of chatter about whether or not Robert Downey Jr. Will first appear in this or his own movie Avengers doomsday. I would imagine he'll have a post credit scene, even if it's the slightest little tease in this i think just to start like we talked about previously like start building that connectivity between the movies before you do the avengers movies i think you got to do that some people
Starting point is 00:08:54 are saying he's going to kill the council of kangs in the post-credit scene oh i actually don't think that's going to happen because they would have to do the thing where you cast like body doubles that sort of look like kang and then shoot them from behind. It's like they did the new like Bruce Willis movies when they like bring him in and he shoots like two scenes and then it's just body doubles. I don't think they'll go that far, but I could see something very, very subtle and simple with Robert Downey Jr. just appearing in a fucking green suit like he was in Comic-Con or he puts a hood on or something like that. I think we will get him in this. I would actually be surprised if we don't just because he is so big with the fantastic four in general and as someone that has the fortnight game going on the kids are aj wakes
Starting point is 00:09:33 up every morning like six o'clock and he's like i gotta play for him like dude you can't just be playing for him he is obsessed he's getting all the characters and doom is like the main dude in it all so they're already building it up in fortnite you know it's going to carry on to the mcu and again another character that you're like i think they're going to nail this one another metallic character to talk about one that i didn't feel like they nailed though james spader will return as ultron in the new vision series on disney plus ultron i think we've talked about him on this podcast before in the new Vision series on Disney Plus. Ultron, I think we've talked about him on this podcast before in the same way, was someone that was teased so well by the trailers of Age of
Starting point is 00:10:11 Ultron, but weirdly didn't match the tone he had in the trailers in the movie. Like the trailers, whoever they hired to do those trailers was like, I'm going to make this seem like the darkest Empire Strikes Back of the MCU then you know no strings on me him singing that song and everything was like oh my god this is gonna be fucking we we might be scared watching this movie and he never really felt that like that in the movie like he has some great scenes that scene with vision in the forest one of the best scenes in the movie really good stuff but for a lot of the movie ultron is like wisecracking and like making jokes and I really didn't like that at the time I really don't like it now I feel like they didn't like
Starting point is 00:10:51 nail down a tone for that movie and it's one of the biggest like missed opportunities from Age of Ultron so reading this I'm like all right give him another shot because it wasn't James Spader's fault his voice and everything he's great as Ultron give him another shot. Cause it wasn't James Spader's fault, his voice and everything. He's great as Ultron. Give him another shot, make them a little darker. They said Elizabeth Olsen also could return. I would hope she's going to return because I love this shit as much as anybody. It's really hard to call vision a needle mover.
Starting point is 00:11:18 Even now after Wanda vision, after like Paul Benton, he's great as vision. He's perfect. But like, we're going to focus a whole show around the kind of boring guy. I't know so i sure hope that elizabeth olsen is in it she better be uh this is one of the things if they just wipe this one off the release map it's like dude that seems like it was a hundred years ago i forgot there was even supposed to be a show it was
Starting point is 00:11:40 during covid he had the covid fog going on he He didn't, you know, WandaVision, I felt like was, it would have been fine as this little self-contained thing. And if it did touch other projects, I don't think we needed other projects spawned out of it. And again, I think this was when they didn't know what the hell they were doing. And they were like, we have a lot of time before Fantastic Four and X-Men are going to be able to come in. So it's like this plus the Agatha stuff.
Starting point is 00:12:02 Doesn't seem like it was a little extreme. And listen, we loved, we had a ball. I wouldn't say we loved one division we had fun with one division though yeah especially once you know you're living all the nostalgia and it had its its twists and turns but then it's like i think about that motherfucker betney when he threw that little uh twist at us that ended up just being himself when he said he wanted to work with the actor however like you said spader for anything about ultron i don't love spader the voice is like perfect it's like i can definitely see that that's why there's good in him you know to quote a uh famous uh star wars character once upon a time so i'm i'm down i'm
Starting point is 00:12:37 down with him coming back but it's like i don't know man just two robots going at each other we need something there if you're not going to throw like Scarlet Witch in you're going to have to almost throw like an ensemble cast in there and that's probably more money I could live with whatever you're going to I wonder what their plan is like I don't know if the plan is to put her on ice until say like an Avengers movie
Starting point is 00:12:58 I just don't know if people are going to care that much from Doctor Strange till then I think I don't know if the numbers were good enough with Dr. Strange to say, that's going to be the thing that stops the Scarlet Witch from coming back at all until an Avengers movie. Yeah. I don't know. We'll have to see.
Starting point is 00:13:14 I don't even know when that drops the vision series. It might be years from now. They haven't started filming. So we'll see other Marvel news. Deadpool and Wolverine is officially the highest grossing rated R movie of all time. It's moved into the top 10 highest grossing rated R movie of all time. It's moved into the top 10 superhero movies, highest grossing of all time. And Ryan Reynolds, I guess to celebrate, released a high quality version of the spoiler alert for Deadpool and Wolverine.
Starting point is 00:13:36 We're about to spoil something kind of big. I mean, it's been over a month now. I would imagine everyone that cares about spoilers has seen it. Wait one more second before you to close out your tabs. He released the Gambit live scene from the end of Deadpool and Wolverine, which you might be like, what do you mean from the end? What do you mean Gambit lives? And in the TVA at the end,
Starting point is 00:13:57 you can see this in a very small screen where Channing Tatum's Gambit does survive. But in this clip we see he looks up and there's the Marvel sparkly circle. So it's like, ooh, maybe he's opening the door a little bit. Can a Channing Tatum Gambit movie work? He was such a joke in Deadpool and Wolverine. Can you make a movie? I say yes.
Starting point is 00:14:17 I think Peacemaker was the last guy I would have ever expected from the Suicide Squad to get a show that I would absolutely love head over heels. I think you could make this work with Channing Tatum. I think he's funny enough. You almost have to go like a peacemaker route with it though. Like I feel like with Channing Tatum, I almost want it to be like a rated R Gambit thing,
Starting point is 00:14:38 which they probably wouldn't do that, but I would love it. Even, okay. So if it was a Gambit centric thing do you think he could you see him as the x-men gambit for the future x-men series i could because especially like in an ensemble like that he could be the comedic relief and i'm not saying gambit has to be a joke 24 7 but just tonally you treat him the same way deadpool treated him where in the group setting like he's making jokes but then when it comes down to brass tacks, you don't want to mess with him. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:07 I almost, maybe it's just me. I just always saw a different actor as Gambit and I don't even know who the right actor would be, but I, I, Tate, Channing Tatum felt like a reject void version of Gambit in the nicest way possible. I love, yeah, I love him and he's amazing as the character and he loves the character more than anyone, obviously. But I sort of agree with you in that when you picture Gambit,
Starting point is 00:15:32 you don't picture someone with Channing Tatum's build and his size. He Gambit's a lanky skinny, you know, like the original was a Taylor Hearst. They cast an X-Men origins Wolverine. They didn't do the costume, which that was annoying. original was it taylor hirsch they cast in x-men origins wolverine they didn't do the costume which that was annoying but if you would have casted him at that time and done the comic accurate costume
Starting point is 00:15:50 i actually think he would have fit and i'll tell you right now my generation it is like wolverine is like the dude right and i think he's probably the dude for most x-men fans cyclops is the leader but like gambit's always like everyone's dark arts. I kind of love Gambit more than anyone. And that was the way with the cartoon. And that was definitely the way after X-Men 97. I saw all the love Gambit was getting. I won't spoil that. If you haven't seen Deadpool and X-Men
Starting point is 00:16:15 97 by now, at some point we're going to have to start spoiling stuff, guys. I'll wait until it comes out on digital and then we're just going to have to start ripping stuff out here. But that's the thing. Gambit is so cool and good and he already has like the goofy side of it from deadpool and i just don't think he fits in terms of what gambit quote-unquote should look like that i don't know if i i would want it but if they do it like i guess i'll live with it it's like fucking channing tatum right yeah i'm I'm not going to complain about Channing. I loved, I said this week,
Starting point is 00:16:45 I wrote a blog because they did a video where they said, who's your favorite superhero. And Channing Tatum said, Gambit, of course, how could I not say Gambit? And Zoe Kravitz, who he's dating said,
Starting point is 00:16:55 Catwoman. And he's like, well, she's not really a superhero. Like, and everyone's like, how could you say that to Catwoman? And it's like,
Starting point is 00:17:02 he's setting her straight because she's not a superhero. Like you could say she's a super villain. And even that I'd be like, I don't know that to Catwoman? And it's like, he's setting her straight because she's not a superhero. Like, you could say she's a supervillain. And even that, I'd be like, I don't know. She's kind of anti-hero, you know, Robin Hood-y. But she's definitely a superhero. But I said after that, they're my number one celebrity couple that I'd like to be friends with right now. I think they would be great friends. That's a good couple.
Starting point is 00:17:21 You know, double date partners. Also on the Deadpool and Wolverine thing, since it broke Joker's record of the highest grossing rated R movie of all time, Todd Phillips did like congratulate them. He put Deadpool on top of the Joker stairs, put out this whole statement. I don't think Joker 2 is going to come back and re-break that record. Who knows though? It's like the law of returns or whatever. It's like if you do something once
Starting point is 00:17:46 you're more likely to do it again is joker 2 gonna make more than joker 1 i don't think so but i don't know i just feel like the buzz isn't there in the same way and maybe it has to do with todd phillips being such a dickhead during this press tour he's just coming off so pretentious with oh yeah this joker could never be the joker so it's like he's not really the joker and harley we took away everything that makes her harley we just kept the face paint and all this music i know it's a musical but it's actually not a musical the music is is used for dialogue and it's used to express feelings that you can't get out in words it's like that's what a fucking musical is dude you're describing a musical and you're also describing you're like
Starting point is 00:18:23 yeah we took everything that would make these characters the joker and harley we took it out i hate that i i love saying we took we were making a completely elseworlds version of the joker but it's almost like he's embarrassed to even admit that it is the joker and harley it's like he just wanted to make his fucking taxi driver movie whatever it's a good movie i just don't think it's a good joker movie he is he offended three different venn diagram circles at once that definitely overlap in many parts yeah but also don't he offended joker fans he offended fans of musicals and he offended criminally hoardy people, the Joker musicals and Harley Quinn's entire aura.
Starting point is 00:19:11 You can't do those three things at the same time. Two or three is even pushing it, but all three at once. And it's like, everyone kind of is like Phillips anyway. So dude, you made the hangover, which I love.
Starting point is 00:19:21 It's my favorite comedy of that entire era, but let's not talk like you're fucking Martin Scorseseese all of a sudden like you're you're really not i mean the hangover came out in 2009 bob how old were you in 2009 i was 11 and my mom thought that dyphus was going to come for her because she let me watch it of course robbie fox you know i'm starting to learn like barstool didn't um you know poison your brain there was plenty of poison in there by the time it was in there you rolled around onto the onto the internet history uh but yeah i i i like i'm kind of i hate to say this i didn't realize joker was what it beat to get number one of all time yeah it kind of takes a little bit of the shine off of the award in my opinion like
Starting point is 00:20:04 of the accomplishment like i don't know what number one would have been that would have been in more like uh there's plenty of movies that are better more impressive rated rs but that one just like that would kind of let me left me a little hollow inside let me see highest rate highest grossing i was just looking at that up top top top lifetime grosses. It's Deadpool, woman, passion of the Christ, which makes sense. American sniper, the first Deadpool Oppenheimer. I would have guessed,
Starting point is 00:20:32 um, one of the matrix equals, I guess matrix reloaded is, uh, nine. So I got worldwide gross here. I have Deadpool one, Joker two,
Starting point is 00:20:41 Oppenheimer three, and then Deadpool 2, Deadpool. That's crazy. I'm looking at domestic, yeah. Okay, so worldwide. If it had beaten Oppenheimer, I think it would have had a little extra oomph to it, right? Just because Oppenheimer is a serious movie, Oscars. Yeah, you don't expect Oppenheimer would have beat Joker.
Starting point is 00:21:02 Yeah, yeah. It's weird. It's weird. It was still a little while. $20 million or $200 million. I'm not even going to try to do the math. That's the thing. Oppenheimer has a little more oomph to it, especially with Barbenheimer, which is like
Starting point is 00:21:17 a thing. They're saying there might be a Barbenheimer next year. Have you had your eyes on this? No. I am very interested though, Bob wicked and gladiator two are same day next year. Yeah. Which kind of like has that same gladiator has that same kind of like dudes rock energy.
Starting point is 00:21:35 And then wicked is, you know, all pink and musically and another movie that they're trying to lie to the public about not being a musical and also not being part one. Like people don't realize this fucking movie is going to end with Defying Gravity and Act 2 is going to be Wicked 2. Bob, I've never seen Wicked. I don't know anything. All I know is it's a prequel.
Starting point is 00:21:55 Spoilers for Wicked. Don't you spoil Wicked. It's going to be a big event here. It's a prequel. I think the show is fantastic, but the movie I don't have even the slightest bit of excitement for, I think the movie looks horrible. Ariana Grande. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:09 Yeah. I just, I saw the trailer. I'm not a big fan of her and I'm a little under, I was like, perfect. I was like, instead of taking the kids to a Broadway play,
Starting point is 00:22:19 which seems like the dumbest thing a parent could do, I could take them to the movies, which is not all that smart usually, but we can find a time where it could work but if it's going to be an ariana grande and the again the the stuff i've seen i'm a little work but nonetheless that is a pretty fun like dudes rock and then the chicks are out yeah i i would like it to almost become another barb and hymer it was fun just doing that so listen i, I'm not looking forward to Wicked, but I would go see it in the same day as Gladiator 2 if that becomes an event. I actually, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:49 I want to do one of those every year. Me, you, KS, we did it. I want Eddie to have to do it in Chicago. I want everyone to tell their stories. I want the memes. I want all the viral stuff. I thought that was one of the high moments of the year when everyone does that stuff.
Starting point is 00:23:03 I also have a take that I'm going to bury here about 20 minutes into a, my mom's basement episode, instead of putting it on Twitter and potentially getting dunked on. I rewatched gladiator last week. Okay. And it didn't hold up as I was hoping it would. Wow.
Starting point is 00:23:20 I've only seen it once and I'm not a huge gladiator person. So you saying that like my instant reaction is, Oh, I believe that. I've only seen it once and I'm not a huge gladiator person. So you saying that, like my instant reaction is, oh, I believe that. I saw it. I loved it when it came out. It was like as much as Ralph Cifaretto. The whole thing. When I see Ralphie acting like that in Sopranos, which I just rewatched and I'm seeing him do all the stuff. I'm like, yeah, that checks out. It was a fucking marvel at the time. There's a lot of slow parts in between the gladiating and i forgot that was the case the battle scenes are awesome too but i'm just like oh
Starting point is 00:23:51 like and that's what i did i just kind of like fast forward i'm like i'm done with this i also hate walking phoenix's character so much which is a you know tribute to how well he plays it obviously but it's like i was like man this it's like 245 too in, man, this it's like two 45 too. In terms of like, I know that's what I remember the most about it. Is it so long? Yeah. Well, fucking Ridley just put out as Napoleon directors cut today with 50 minutes of additional footage.
Starting point is 00:24:15 Everyone said watching that movie, they didn't need the footage that was in it. And he was like, here's extra that I, my, my review of that movie was all i felt after watching napoleon was i really would love to watch a good napoleon movie because that was fucking terrible and way too long and now i'm worried about gladiator 2 all over again now that you threw this napoleon stuff on top of me
Starting point is 00:24:36 i'm i'm terrified and it sounds like denzel is just playing denzel in the movie which i mean that does sound like that which that. That's a pro for me. That's not a con. That's a pro. I love that. You're right. You're right. I'm going to do my thing.
Starting point is 00:24:53 And I mean, the one shot from the trailer of the water battles in the Coliseum, like nobody knew they did fucking water battles. I guess people did. Historians knew. But dumb people like us, we didn't know that they were flooding that did not flooding that fucking thing putting ships in it i'm in i'm in uh but taking the todd phillips joker stuff and kind of transitioning to a little bit of dc news i thought this quote was funny i think i texted you this quote when it dropped michael keaton doesn't really care that batgirl got canned he was a big part of that movie and he said no i didn't care one way or the other big fun nice check which is just harrison ford energy to me and i love that out of our aging movie icons movie superstars also
Starting point is 00:25:32 beetlejuice too i know uh mrs clem is a huge beetlejuice person getting pretty good reviews so far people aren't saying like it's as good as beetlejuice it's groundbreaking but people are like it's the best tim burton movie in a really long time and it like is is decent as a sequel which i'm also very excited for another movie using a lot of practical effects yeah very uh she has opening wifey is going with my brother opening night both diehard beetlejuice fans they're going opening night to see it uh and i got a shout out my guy here wit who tweeted uh we got a three minute standing ovation at the venice film festival so a three minute is not a long ovation standing ovation however a standing ovation is a standing ovation so there does come with a floor it's like indiana
Starting point is 00:26:16 jones all over again when they said a mediocre five minute yeah so we were going at least like six two people aren't leaving early i think it's at six one was it must be at least like the floor for this movie it wasn't horrible but i mean i'll take it i'm not a tim burton guy famously but at this point all these people you figure they're just going to cut the check same with michael keaton and i i feel like they did a good job and i've read the reviews it's like i saw some B's B minuses B pluses 90, 70. So you're looking at about like,
Starting point is 00:26:47 and I don't know. I haven't seen any like, yeah, I haven't seen any over the top. Like this is horrible. It's a disgrace. It's they shouldn't have made this. It's all like the worst review I've seen is like,
Starting point is 00:26:56 ah, it's all right. Yeah. Which is great. Also speaking of sequels and reviews like this rewire, I not rewatched. I watched it the first time ghostbusters frozen empire, i was pretty excited for because i really liked afterlife really really really disappointing i i am another take i'm burying in this podcast because uh i feel bad
Starting point is 00:27:17 saying it even it's not even a bad movie it's just like it's almost like they took afterlife which was like half like let's introduce it to a new generation, and half, let's do some nostalgia for the old fans. It's like they took this and said, let's just make a kids movie that has a little bit of nostalgia sprinkled in, which doesn't make any sense because the kids watching this won't give a fuck about the nostalgia. And the nostalgic people are not going to be entertained by the kids stuff. It's on Netflix now. It's not the worst watch ever, but I was really disappointed by it. I've seen that movie on Netflix and my hand has hovered above it. And there was just been something that has not allowed my thumb to press.
Starting point is 00:27:55 I bet your kids would like it, but it's like, I don't think you will. And that there's no point in that. Like they're going to like anything, you know, a hundred different things I could throw in front of them. It's the stuff we both like that is when it hits you know that's when there's magic being made which i actually had to i had to take sienna to see deadpool three so that was you took her yeah so her friend frankie they've been friends since like they were in preschool together and he he was like it was like we're just getting him out of the house so we just had to get him
Starting point is 00:28:22 out so i was like i'll take him there's five dollar movie day i was like i'll take him to deadpool three and she was uh she was a little scared in the beginning i was like there're just getting them out of the house so we just had to get them out so i was like i'll take them there's five dollar movie day i was like i'll take them to deadpool three and she was uh she was a little scared in the beginning i was like there's a lot of blood in this movie and she's just watching bye bye bye oh wait don't want to spoil it for the people who haven't seen deadpool yet but yeah so it was definitely interesting to take a nine-year-old kid to see deadpool three but uh i mean it's an event at this point yeah listen i was 11 seeing the hangover parents parents gotta do what parents gotta do she's the next i was 10 seeing stepbrothers that was the really bad one because
Starting point is 00:28:49 of the ball sack on the drums my mom was like and the hangover she learned her lesson i didn't see the hangover in theaters that was like we'll wait till it comes on red box because she took me to see stepbrothers in theaters just thinking oh it's the new will ferrell movie it's probably like kicking and screaming and you know it's, Step Brothers is what Step Brothers is. She was like, put your head down when we leave the theater. I don't want people to see us. Bob, you got to put your head down. I don't want the people to think you're weak for me.
Starting point is 00:29:15 Going from Batman, Batgirl to some more Batman stuff, I meant to mention this the last show we did. I've watched not the entire season. I really should have by now. i watched a couple episodes i want to say five or six episodes of batman caped crusader the new amazon batman cartoon that was like originally developed by a lot of the people that did the animated series kevin conroy was going to come back he passed away sadly so they've got a new batman actor doing voice who was from midnight mass i forget his name i don't want to butcher it um but he is so fucking good and this show is really fucking good club like they nailed it it's a 40s batman show with noir aesthetic and he kind of he's even drawn
Starting point is 00:29:57 differently like the old school batman with the ears and stuff it is really worth checking out it feels like a little more adult batman show It's not like the boys are invincible in terms of like adult animation. It could work for kids as well. But I just wanted to give a shout out any Batman fans. Definitely check out Cape Crusader on Amazon because I feel like it nails the tone of Batman, but with a few things that I'm sure people roll their eyes at and say is woke things, but they make the penguin, a girl who like owns a club and does performances at the club. It's like some really cool twists where I'm like, oh, this does feel like an elseworlds take on the character. So check out Cape Crusader. That's just my little plug for it. So all caps recommend capital R recommend all. What are you middle? Are you capital R capital R? recommend, all words recommend. What are you, middle? Are you capital R recommend?
Starting point is 00:30:46 Capital R, yeah, exactly. Okay. Yeah. And if you're a diehard Batman fan, it's all caps. Pretty much, yeah, because it's like there are still people involved in the show that were involved in the animated series. I think it's Bruce Timm and Paul Dini were the two. I think it's Bruce Timm that's involved in this one. I think J.J. Abrams even executive produced it with Matt Reeves.
Starting point is 00:31:07 That's another thing. Matt Reeves for the new Batman universe. It's not connected to that at all. Again, it's set in the 40s, but it almost feels like they got his input on what Gotham should feel like. Really, really cool stuff. They also put out the Batman in theaters again for a day, almost like they did with The Phantom Menace, where they attached a preview of the penguin. And everyone I know that has seen it said the penguin looks great. So really excited for that. That comes out next month.
Starting point is 00:31:32 We'll have to figure out what we do for that as well. The first episode I didn't realize is not on a Sunday. It must be a football thing that they're, so the first episode is going to be on a Thursday, and then there's Sundays from then on. But I think week two, I'll be doing surviving barstool. So we're going to pre-record an episode for that week. I assume we'll figure something out.
Starting point is 00:31:51 We'll figure it out. Yeah. Uh, then we also got the trailer for super slash man, the Christopher Reeves documentary hits theaters, September 21st looks really good. And more than just the way it looks, I'm trusting the word of everyone involved. There's your guy. Um, James Gunn is saying like, trusting the word of everyone involved. There's your guy. James Gunn is saying this is one of the best documentaries he's ever seen, which maybe I shouldn't trust his word because he also said The Flash is one of the best superhero movies he's ever seen. But yeah, honestly, it does look really good.
Starting point is 00:32:18 And I don't know a ton about Christopher Reeve myself. I know all the Superman movies, and I know the basics of his life story, story the broad strokes but i'm excited to learn a little bit more about this guy yeah the that's like before my probably largest generation like christopher reeve superman was like the goat back in the day so learning about him i would love to know in terms of castings like that is one of the best castings they've ever made home run out of the park i'd love to know what him or his family did to eminem because i think eminem's still using oh my still he brought up he brought him up again he said like there was a lyric on like death of slim shady did the fucking you know everyone get on your feet for this song you too chris they did another one of those it's like yikes eminem is this reeves is it hard to find something that rhymes
Starting point is 00:33:06 with reeves and he's just that's his go-to i don't understand why he's i think i think this one's reeve right isn't the old so there was a joy there was a superman there's george reeves he was the first man that's that's a fair point so i don't i just i don't i don't, I just, I don't, I don't get it unless he's like a big Lex Luthor fan, which I mean, Lex Luthor is a pretty cool guy. Let's tell the people about Game Time before we get into some Star Wars news. Game Time is obviously one of our favorite sponsors here at The Basement. I love going to concerts, live events, sporting events, whatever it is. I love spending my money on events more than material materialistic things and game time will help you do that whether it's a concert football game comedy show whatever
Starting point is 00:33:51 it is we always use game time it's the official ticketing partner of barstool sports and you know how much we love game time but now with their brand new game time picks feature they're making it even easier to get to a game game time picks filters out the fluff to show you only incredible deals on great seats, so you don't have to waste your time looking through thousands of tickets and seats. Pearl Jam, $205 on the third. Amazing tickets thanks to Game Time Picks. Just pull up your chosen event, turn on the Game Time Picks setting
Starting point is 00:34:32 at the top of the screen, and browse the best deals near you. What are you waiting for? Get those tickets now. Download the Game Time app today and use the code MMB to easily score great deals with new Game Time picks. What time is it? Game time. I can't wait to see Oasis with Game Time.
Starting point is 00:34:52 Exactly. Listen, I said it's going to be tough to get those tickets. Guess what? They'll probably appear on Game Time right afterwards, and that's where we'll go. Maybe Game Time will sponsor my trip to Cardiff, Wales. Fingers crossed. Game Time, you listening?
Starting point is 00:35:03 That's what I want. All right. Star Wars news. This is kind of old news by the time we're doing this podcast, but we haven't discussed the official cancellation of the Acolyte. The Acolyte has been canceled by Disney+. We kind of talked about this when we talked about the finale of the Acolyte. Like, do we want a season two? Will they get a season two? I think based on the cost of the show, it makes a lot of sense that they did get a season two. I've seen a lot of Star Wars fans that are diehard fans of the acolyte on Twitter,
Starting point is 00:35:29 especially since the cancellation, they've made the polls. There's a petition with like 40,000 signatures to bring it back. It's like, that's all great. If the show didn't cost $180 million to make, when you look at it costs 180 million and the drop off of viewership by the finale from the premiere to the finale was so unbelievably drastic. This was the least viewed finale out of every star Wars live action show Disney plus has ever did. It makes a lot of sense from a story perspective. I selfishly like this because I don't want them to go into the Darth Plagueis backstory like that. I don't want Yoda to be this character that we see on a weekly 30-minute, 20-minute show. I feel like it kind of ruins the mystique for both of them.
Starting point is 00:36:12 And I know we've gotten a lot of Yoda over the years, but it's never just a fucking streaming show on Disney+. Yoda shouldn't be down on himself in his career, you know? So selfishly, I think the story works better the finale especially as a tease of just like who knows what happened to kamir and darth plagues who knows how they were connected i just think it works better but yeah and the other story was keanu reeves is almost cast as soul and star wars could still be on the horizon for him they still want to do something with him i could totally see him as soul soul is one of the best parts of the show and it's just all that
Starting point is 00:36:47 stoic dialogue yeah soul and kamir it's like i feel like you know what the act so the actor who played soul i love that guy and you know i think like he had his run i'm happy that they didn't use keanu so keanu can be used for someone that'll have more legs potentially now yeah the kamir guy it's like, you crushed it, dude. Probably a bad break. Maybe you come back at some point. I think I said it at the time when we did the finale. It just felt like that was their, those two
Starting point is 00:37:14 cameos were their ways of being like, hey, if you want to bring us back, that's a big moment right there. Like, we're calling dibs. We got dibs on Yoda. And like you said, like yoda doesn't come back to do a disney plus show that's like bringing john cena back to just do like a random smackdown sunday night heat like yeah sunday night is sunday still there no no no i was gonna say
Starting point is 00:37:39 i would be you know i was making the reference for you I know how to calibrate my references I appreciate it Bob and I actually said to myself Within the last month Is Sunday Night Heat still a thing? Because it kind of sucked when it was around And then Smackdown probably took whatever heat they had left For lack of a better term So the amount of Belly aching and crying about this show
Starting point is 00:38:01 Being cancelled Is like 100x times Any of the oh my god I'm having so much fun Watching this show being canceled is like a hundred X times any of the, Oh my God, I'm having so much fun watching this show, which again had its, uh, Mac McClung slam dunk contest moments where they were awesome.
Starting point is 00:38:13 There was a lot of shitty. We'll always have episode five. Yes. We'll always have episode five. So the amount, like, let's be honest, Bob,
Starting point is 00:38:21 you're not even going to fight me on this. Everyone that is crying about the Akalite getting canceled, they're Last Jedi fans. You know they're all, every single one of them. It is the bad diagram for that. You're probably, I don't like you pointing that out because I didn't think about it like that. But you're probably right. Not every Last Jedi fan is an Acolyte fan, but every Acolyte fan is a Last Jedi fan. You're probably right.
Starting point is 00:38:42 You're probably right. Yeah. Then I saw this stat on Reddit and my jaw dropped. The Acolyte cost $670,000 per minute of footage and guarded over a billion less minutes watched than every other Star Wars show. Which, let's be honest, there have been some misses along the way as well. Yeah. So you're like $670,000 per minute. That's a lot.
Starting point is 00:39:07 Is there like, was the second highest like $600,000? No, no, no. $500,000? No. $400,000? Eh. $320,000 is the next one, and it's over. So it was twice, more than twice, the next or whatever the Ahsoka one was.
Starting point is 00:39:23 That was the last one they did. So actually, oh, goddamn damn I messed this stat up the next highest was Andrew 529 529 so that was the next highest but Ahsoka which was the last one produced was 320 and production quality was and or looked 10 billion times better than the Acolyte
Starting point is 00:39:39 remember we got the numbers from Ken Jack confused and he told we thought it was like extremely cheaper. Like, you know, like what I guess to make it do like cheap show. Yeah. No,
Starting point is 00:39:49 no, no. This show was extremely expensive and I don't really care about the expenses of a show in the longterm, but when you're a lot of money and you stink, that's when it's just like, all right, whatever.
Starting point is 00:40:00 It got canceled as it is. But then I have people getting upset that it got canceled. Then I'm like, what are we even doing here, people? We're not having any kind of like, we have to have standards for fucking Star Wars. It has to mean something. It means something to me, damn it.
Starting point is 00:40:12 And then a Star Wars story that didn't piss me off, but I was just like, I rolled my eyes out. It was Timur Morrison had some quotes about like, he's like, I'm not going to appear in Mando and Grogu because of the reception of book of boba fett and then he kind of came out and clarified was like i didn't mean to say that i actually can't say anything about whether or not i'm in the movie it's just like tamora i love you i i truly do but what are you doing complaining about the fucking reception and disney using you
Starting point is 00:40:41 or not using you or we might not get a season two because the reception from the fans, bro, you're in the Disney family on a higher level than almost everyone in the Disney family. They got you in fucking Moana. You're in the star Wars movies, not only as Boba Fett, but as every clone in the entire universe. So they'll bring you back in Obi-Wan, even if you're not getting brought back in Boba Fett, what are you doing complaining about Disney like this? It was just like, again, it didn't piss me off, but I was just like, dude, there's, listen, I know a lot of people didn't like Book of Boba Fett. I wasn't over the moon about every second of that show either, but it didn't like hurt the way people think about Boba Fett. I don't think, maybe I'm wrong about that, but like, I don't think anyone, if Boba Fett showed up in this
Starting point is 00:41:22 awesome triumphant moment ino and grogu the movie big screen seeing boba fett on the big screen again i don't think the audience is gone and but that bachta tank i think people are just like oh fucking boba fett shoot the wrist rockets dude do that fucking you know the backpack rocket so that just seeing that i was just like tomorrow what are you doing with these quotes i don't't think he realizes, like, no one was blaming him for the way Book of the Fet was. And I think he's probably upset that he kind of got, like, one of the dog TV shows instead of one of the good ones. Yeah. And everyone says just, like, those Mando episodes, though.
Starting point is 00:41:58 Yeah, they saved the goddamn entire series because it would have been terrible. Their numbers would have been on line with, like, the Aolyte numbers if if mando didn't save it right so it's but yeah like you you show me boba fett he's still like boba fett he did nothing and we love this character for decades right and now it's like he's just he is a cool name so he's definitely gonna be in this movie there's no doubt he's in this fucking movie. Dude, you have the mouse giving you checks. You can suck on that little mouse teeth the rest of your life, and it'll feed you and the rest of your family for generations. Do not bite the mouse teeth. Just let it fucking – it's sweet, succulent money milk into your mouth, and do not go out.
Starting point is 00:42:43 It got weird. It got gross. I mean, Gina Carano is doing everything to get back on that team you know so it's like just shut your mouth we we like you we didn't like the show it's nothing personal had more to do with the stupid ass spy kids and shit like that and the the goddamn box tank oh my god yeah that's bad that's bad they might have ruined bach to tanks like didn't ruin Boba Fett, but they might have ruined Bokta Tanks. The Bokta Tank industry tanked, for lack of a better term, after that show. It doesn't even do anything for you.
Starting point is 00:43:13 It just lets you sit in there and ruin good fucking characters that everyone loves. I can understand why it's salty. I completely understand why it's salty. It's not Disney's fault. No. It's not the's not disney's fault or i guess no it's not the the smart people at disney's fault it's the idiots at disney's fault the same people that probably grew up with the alkaloid possibly then i i the final stories aren't even stories that we have to really break down and get into but i just thought they were worth mentioning today we got the title and first
Starting point is 00:43:42 images from the new jurassic park movie uh It's a reboot called Jurassic Park Rebirth starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali. And another one that I guess this two new Sopranos slash David Chase doc coming out September 7th very soon, which looks amazing. I've heard amazing things. Both Sopranos guys here now. Very excited about that. And then I wanted your take on nicholas cage being cast as john madden in the new john madden biopic it was originally supposed to be hugh jackman apparently then he turned it down nicholas cage now in the role directed by david o russell so good director
Starting point is 00:44:17 but it just feels so weird so i have to look let's see david o russell david david o russell what do we have here what is his filmography i don't know what he did didn't he do silver linings playbook and maybe american hustle that's right that's what it was good movies okay i'm burying this take bury a take on your own podcast i love burying takes bury. Bury that take. Dig that hole. Sorry for the aggregators. We're not getting aggregated. That's the biggest thing here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:51 John Madden is one of the five most important. I think I did a ranking. It was like five most important sports figures. And he's honestly like top five most important figures in my life. Like not family and close friends. Not someone you've like met and known. Yes. He shaped my life more than pretty much.
Starting point is 00:45:09 He made me a diehard football fan, which is my favorite sport. And hence I am working at a company now and made me a bigger sports fan. I love that man with all my heart. I don't know if I talked about it on this podcast. I once wrote that guy a letter like 15 years ago. And I said, listen,
Starting point is 00:45:24 I just want to say you changed my life. thank you so much for everything you ever did and i just kind of like bled my heart on it because i love that man so much and i thought i was like i thought there was other people and then when he died i realized like he had that touch on everybody basically yeah that is like a diehard football fan i like nicholas cage and let me emphasize i like him i like he's the mean guy. I like people who love Nicolas Cage. He's like the perfect, like, LCB. I know they go crazy for Nicolas Cage.
Starting point is 00:45:51 That's good and all. Seems like a fun guy, probably a nice guy, little crazy, little quirky. If he ruins John Madden for me, I will hate Nicolas Cage. I will hate his guts. And I'm hoping for the best. And I think if, like like he cares about it and i hope that david russell can like keep the fucking keep the like ship on track here and not get too crazy nicholas cage it's gonna be kind of weird seeing him i think it just deals with more so the game
Starting point is 00:46:16 i think i heard yeah they said it's it's a lot of the game yeah so like if it goes crazy but it's about the game if it was the full biopic i would have really been like um angry i'm just saying like nick cage you don't want to make an enemy out of me i want to make an enemy out of me and i saw i think kyle brant tweeted this out he's uh does like he did good morning football or whatever he said like i like all i could think about is how john candy would have been the perfect john madden and it's, all I could think about is how John Candy would have been the perfect John Madden. And it's literally all I've thought about since like,
Starting point is 00:46:49 and John Candy was my first favorite actor ever. I love that man with all my heart. So him then playing John Madden put my brain and like, it was just dopamine. Just like, it was like, it was like a sponge just squeezing itself out. All dopamine was dripping into my brain.
Starting point is 00:47:04 The mere thought of that movie. So, I mean, maybe AI. I could just be like- I was going to say that. I was going to say, give AI another 10 years and you can type that prompt in and you'll be good. As for the Jurassic Park thing, I've said this a million times and I'm going to say it again.
Starting point is 00:47:18 Just give me a movie where they just watch the dinosaurs in the zoo, everyone's safe, everyone's fine, and we just see cool dinosaurs. And then, what was, was there another? The Tyrannosaurus, yeah. It looks really, really good. Did you see the trailer? in the zoo everyone's safe everyone's fine and we just had to see cool dinosaurs uh and then what was was there another it's a brownish knock yeah it looks really really good did you see the trailer i did not i i actually said to my wife the other day i said i wish they would make a david david chase i always get simon and chase confused because he's the other one's in the wire uh documentary but i don't think he ever would because he's such like a serious guy like that
Starting point is 00:47:44 i had no clues was coming this is perfect bob it's perfect it's two parts i think it's like almost three hours combined and they had a premiere with the whole sopranos cast in the city and stuff and they were raving about it they said it's audition footage they said it's behind the scenes footage real in-depth david chase the way he grew up and how much of his life is in the show. And so I can't wait to hear about his mom. I know who inspired Livia. Like, yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:48:12 That was a abbreviated my mom's basement today. I know it's a little shorter than usual, but I'm going to go check out DC with the rest of pup punk. If you're in DC or Philly, come see us this weekend. Final weekend of the off the Leash Tour. A bunch of the Fox fam is coming through. Some friends are coming through.
