Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, My Mom's Basement listeners. You can find our episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube, and Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music. Hello and welcome to My Mom's Basement, presented by Barstool Sports. And Happy New Year. It's the first My Mom's Basement of 2025. It's Robbie Fox with my co-host, Clem. And Clem, I feel like I haven't talked to you since last year. Oh, got him. Good one good one Bob way to kick it off Great seeing you though pal great seeing you as well. How was your new year? I saw you at the pop-tart bowl I saw you eating the human or not the human the pop-tart mascot, but the human sized pop-tart How was your time over there with Eddie your fellow snack boy?
Starting point is 00:00:43 You know they say Orlando is a place where dreams come true. And I'll tell you, that was the most magical moment to ever happen in the history of Orlando, Florida, if not the world. Being able to see a living mascot get thrown into a toaster, toasted out, and then devoured by tens of dozens of hundreds of people by the end. I don't know, it was awesome. It was- You guys ate the guy's eyeball basically. I saw that. It was like literally his eyebrow
Starting point is 00:01:12 was like the piece that was left around. I'd say I've never had a cinnamon roll pop tart. Pretty good, man. The frosting on the front. Oh my goodness gracious. So it was a blast. The pop tart's ball, I feel like was the one ball game that really embraced the absurdity of like,
Starting point is 00:01:30 everyone's like, oh, we're in the pop tarts bowl now and that's always become a thing. They're like, yeah, you're in the pop tarts bowl and we're going to have mascots and you're going to eat them and it was it was a lot of fun. So, the snack boys had to get it done. We got it done and then for anyone that can hear, I'm sure the audio files can tell. As soon as I got back from the Pop Tarts Bowl, Eddie and I then did like 10 reviews at the hotel because we don't see each other much. So we snack boy, we
Starting point is 00:01:53 collect all our snack boys footage got sick. And my wife got sick. And Sienna was sick before the before we went down to Florida. She got sick. And AJ got sick last night. So we have been basically battling sickness from January from December 29. And today's January 3. So the the old year and the new year were both in sickness. And I don't think we're alone. It sounds like I think my parents house is full of sicknesses. My sister's house. I think there's a lot of bugs going around. We had the stomach bug before the holidays. It is an absolute nightmare out there. So everyone head on a swivel because it's tough on those in those streets right now. I'm praying I don't get sick. I was doing a lot of flying visiting Lady Fox's family during the holidays. One of the flights we were on was like
Starting point is 00:02:41 we were in an ER. It was insane, the amount of coughing, dude, from the kids, from the adults, nobody covering their mouth either, like the most common etiquette. Look at that, Clem just covered his mouth as he coughed. And muted, and muted. Yes, he muted, it's such common etiquette, but these kids, they were like coughing into the air
Starting point is 00:03:00 as if they were trying to like spread something, or it was insane. We were kind of like giving the jacket thing. It was, yeah. It'll be a miracle if I don't get sick. It is seemingly going around right now. I visited a Superman shooting location in Cleveland while I was out there, the Cleveland Arcade.
Starting point is 00:03:18 It's that shot of Superman and Lois floating up. Kind of seems like an homage to the original one. But I tweeted a picture of that. People seemed to dig it. A lot of people would just always say, "' you in Cleveland? That's the future in laws and stuff. I saw a bunch of movies. A bunch of movies that I wanted to catch up on over break. A real pain. The Jesse Eisenberg one with Kieran Culkin. So good. So heartfelt. Amazing. Is our boy winning the Oscar? Yeah, I think he is. I think it won best supporting and he should.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Yeah, I think he is. I think it won best supporting and he should. Onora was great. I loved that. Nosferatu, a bit too horny for me. I wasn't a huge fan. Like I appreciated it. It truly is one of those like, oh my god, every shot could be a fucking painting and you know, they do all the good stuff like that. Great performances, but a little weird. And I watched a movie I know you saw last night actually I watched the Saturday Night movie Saturday Night Live I thought it was very enjoyable nothing world-changing kind of cookie cutter but I had a good time with it I laughed a lot I thought Matthew Reese I think his name he did a great George Carlin I was
Starting point is 00:04:18 really impressed with like Carlin was good Chevy Chase was really good I like that guy that played Lauren Michaels. He played like the character based on a young Spielberg in the fabled mince. So he went from playing a young Spielberg to a young Lauren Michaels. I don't know who's next on his list, but he's playing some iconic people. But yeah, it was a it was a good break full of like catching up on movies, watching squid game, stuff like that. Yeah, we because we were traveling and doing all the, you know, holiday stuff as well.
Starting point is 00:04:47 I didn't get to get any movies. I even were given a chance of a Mufasa visit later today because I heard it's not terrible, but that's from a lot of I've realized now that's a lot of parents who said their kids liked it, which is very different than if I'm going to like it. But I am also stuck at home with my kids, Thursday and Friday, wife's back at work, my kids are still not back at school, they have these days off and I'm like, I gotta just run the clock out.
Starting point is 00:05:11 So I'm trying to figure out ways, maybe I'll take him to see Nose for Atu. I don't know, just to get him out of that, I can't do it anymore. It's too crazy. I can't recommend that to any parents out there. I love our guy Ken Jack, he wrote the blog like, Nose for Atu's nowhere near as horny
Starting point is 00:05:24 as people are saying it is. My jaw hit the floor because I was like, oh my God, I left that movie. My text to Clem, I think I said like it was way more sexual than you would ever imagine. Like I, my jaw hit the floor when I saw Ken Jack say like, it should have been a little hornier. It's like, it was so horny, Ken Jack. It was creepy. But you know, again, great performances. If you're into like that style that Robert Eggers I think his name is if you're into his movies and stuff you might actually like it. I would say I I Just it just reached the bar where I would say I liked it
Starting point is 00:05:55 You know and I think I told you Eddie went to see it And I think he said it was not bad, which for a horror guy like Eddie, not bad is not good in my book. So that's kind of how I read it. Me and Eddie talked about it after you told me that because I was like, all right, cool. I want to talk to someone that has seen it with the spoilers and everything.
Starting point is 00:06:15 And we both said the same thing. We both expected to love it, I think, going in because everyone's talking about it like, this is the horror movie of a generation. And it wasn't quite that for me, but it's a great year for horror movies overall like there were horror movies released this year that I liked more long legs was great I thought what was the one I just watched it was on my list and I was
Starting point is 00:06:35 like oh fuck that was good oh it was um the one I talked about on here strange darling kind of a thriller horror movie combined. That was great. The substance was really good. Late Night with the Devil with our guy David Des Malchin was great. So great year for horror movies overall. But we're not here to talk about horror movies.
Starting point is 00:06:53 That's not why we're here in the basement. Bless you, in the back. That was AJ, yep, you got the scene. And if you listen close, you will hear Sienna hacking up a lung at some point as well. That's why I don't think I can go to the movies if they're like this. We're all just going to be miserable. The movies just might be one giant ER as well.
Starting point is 00:07:10 And they're all just trying to get it out. But my kids do cover their mouth. They bless people when they sneeze, they have tissue. I have to say though, real quick, when I'm on the plane and I cough, I become like 10 times more self-conscious. And that was obviously the case post COVID where then you're like, everyone thinks I have COVID. But I always like, I don't want someone to be like,
Starting point is 00:07:29 oh, this guy is sick and he's traveling. He doesn't care. I care. I knew I was fine. It's just, there's nothing I could do at that point. So no fevers or anything. The fevers came at night, not fun sweating through the sheets in a hotel.
Starting point is 00:07:40 Absolute disaster stuff. The Clem DeHit family vacation was a little bit of a bump in the road. We're just going to say that. We're going to take an easy... Hey, sometimes that's holidays with the Clems, right? Isn't it kind of a tradition to get sick on a holiday? AJ just goes, I said, AJ, was this the worst vacation? Because we had a good vacation. There's the Wonderworks in Orlando. It was like an awesome science museum kind of thing. We went to this place called Fun Spot, which is like an amusement park.
Starting point is 00:08:05 It's basically carnival level rides, but for the price of all of us going was less than one ticket to Disney for the day and it was empty, it was perfect. And I was like, AJ, was this a good vacation? He goes, yeah, worst vacation ever. You remember that one, right? I'm like, oh yeah, when you had diarrhea,
Starting point is 00:08:20 your sister was puking all day long in Lancaster, PA. The whole, I believe that's the new country over there. It was very tough. So this was a very good trip. It's just the parents did not have a very good time in it. That's unfortunate, very unfortunate. But let's talk about some good things. Let's spin this around.
Starting point is 00:08:38 Actually, let's talk about one good thing from that trip. Other than the Pop Tarts Bowl, which was incredible, Bob. And it's that I got to watch my New York Knickerbockers play for the first time since I swore off going to basketball games at the Garden after the Charles Oakley versus James Dolan fight. I did a video the next night outside the Garden with all the Knicks fans went to the game and said I will never come back in this building to watch a basketball game as as long as James Nolan owns the team or is alive. And I have not been back since. And the Knicks are now one of the most fun Knicks team
Starting point is 00:09:10 I can ever remember. I love this team. I love everything about them. And I can't watch them. I will not go to the Barclays because I just don't want to go to Brooklyn. I have to go to like Boston or Washington. By the grace of God, the Knicks were in Orlando
Starting point is 00:09:21 when I was in Orlando. I saw them. I had awesome seats. It was glorious There was a guy who looked like Stu Feiner who went on top of like 10 chairs and was bouncing It was evaculant and it was all thanks to who was it? Thanks to Bob Game time our favorite It's game time the official ticketing partner of barstool sports when we're getting out to live events like that
Starting point is 00:09:41 Knicks game or it could be a concert, a football game, a comedy show, whatever it is, we're using Game Time. You know how much we love it already, but with their brand new Game Time picks feature, they make it even easier to get out to a game or whatever it may be. Hey, Monday Night Raw, first time ever on Netflix, this Monday, you could get into that as well.
Starting point is 00:09:59 If I'm going to New York City though, I can see Jets at Dolphins, 24 bucks. Yeah, that makes sense see Jets at Dolphins 24 bucks yeah that makes sense for Jets at Dolphins but PBR everyone loves PBR at the garden 115 bucks everyone at Barstool we actually had like a partnership with them at one point a bunch of people went and everyone came back saying like oh my god if you've never been to a PBR event you got to see it how about Billy Joel at MetLife this summer 252 bucks right now on Game Time. There's amazing deals.
Starting point is 00:10:29 They have the GT Picks feature at the top of your screen. It's on the app or on the website, which is GameTime.co. And like Clem said, he had amazing tickets to the Knicks this weekend in Orlando. I saw your video. I saw the guy balancing on all the chairs. That's a great experience brought to you by Game Time. So take the guesswork out of buying those tickets. Download their app, the Game Time app. Create an account. Use the code MMB for
Starting point is 00:10:53 $20 off your first purchase. Terms apply but again MMB will get you $20 off. Download the Game Time app today. Clem, what time is it? Game time. Who? Game time. Alright, Skeleton Crew. Let's talk episode six, Zero Friends Again, directed by Bryce Dallas Howard. We were excited for this one. We've been talking about it since Skeleton Crew has announced, oh look forward to episode six. We love Bryce Dallas Howard as a director. But Clem, I gotta come clean with something here. I was tweeting, you know, give her a movie. She's batting a thousand. She's batting a thousand.
Starting point is 00:11:30 I kept saying she's batting a thousand. I even texted the group chat after I watched this one. I said she's still batting a thousand. And then I compiled the episodes that she directed to do this podcast, do a little research and say, oh, these are all the great things she's done. And unfortunately, I realized she's not actually batting a thousand. So she did Sanctuary, the fourth episode of the Mandalorian, very good episode. She did the Hyrus in season two, which is the seven samurai inspired one.
Starting point is 00:11:58 Another very good one. Ahsoka was brought in. Uh, she did Pocobo Bafet, the Mandalorian episode of that, Return of the Mandalorian, such a good one. This Skeleton Crew episode, I would say was a hit. I really enjoyed it. But unfortunately, in season three, she did Chapter 22, Guns for Hire, the Lizzo Jack Black episode. I did not realize that. And now she didn't write it, she didn't cast Jack Black and Lizzo. She had nothing to do with that episode creatively. And the Christopher Lloyd stuff where he was like a Count Dooku loyalist, corrupting droids, that was kind
Starting point is 00:12:38 of sick. So it was like, but obviously it's like the lowest rated Mandalorian episode. It's not great. So I would say she's batting 800 and that's still a Hall of Fame amazing career and I still think she deserves a Star Wars movie. But I just had to come clean and say, okay, maybe she's not batting a thousand. She's more Aaron Judge than Juan Soto. You can say.
Starting point is 00:13:01 Let's not even go there. Let's not go there. We're keeping it light. We're keeping it positive. Let's not start the year on that. But, again, it wasn't really her fault that that episode failed. I don't think. Although, the way that scene looked was bad. But again, I don't even know if that's her fault.
Starting point is 00:13:21 That could be one of those where the... going from 1,800, it's because she I don't even know if that's her fault. That could be one of those where the, she's going from 1,800, it's cause she had a nice hit, but it was like a deep ballpark. You know, there was other factors involved if she didn't write it in, cause like the Jack Black and Lizzo stuff was terrible. There's a lot of things about that episode was terrible
Starting point is 00:13:40 that I feel like at some point it does get pointed at her. However, I am actually happy because Bob, I was honestly thinking, I know we don't, I don't think you really throw this word around anymore, but like you were basically becoming a BBH simp at this point. It was getting to the point where I'm like my boy and listen, like I can't argue with you, right? It's like she keeps making good stuff, but you were just getting up on that soapbox and screaming with a megaphone.
Starting point is 00:14:05 And I was like, Oh man, he's simping again and simping ain't easy. But nonetheless, we're very happy that this episode was good because we just keep riding away. We had like a loss yet. I think we were on like a six. I don't think so. No, I think it just keeps getting like more interesting. The more you learn about the characters and the more they develop the the more intrigued
Starting point is 00:14:25 I am by the whole mystery as well the more interested I am in their personal struggles and their story like this episode was pretty personal with the KB stuff And it was funny. I looked at it like the book of Boba Fett kind of did half droid half people and it got a lot of backlash like Like people really hated that part of Bookable Effect more than anything else. And Skeleton Crew took a very similar concept with KB and treated it a little more seriously.
Starting point is 00:14:54 And I thought that was really well done. Like there was the scene in this episode, spoilers obviously for Skeleton Crew and whatnot, where they split up and Wim doesn't even really know the consequences of the surgery he's doing. And it reminded me of Pepper Potts, like in the first Iron Man, like reaching her hand into Tony's chest or whatever, you know, and doing the surgery on him and stuff. Where he's like, oh, thanks, you just saved my life. And she's like, well, you know, what would happen if I cut this wire? I forget the dialogue, but it reminded me of that. And I really enjoyed like,
Starting point is 00:15:27 we didn't get a lot of Jod this episode. We didn't get a lot of Jude Law. It was mostly just the kids dynamics and their character development. And I thought that was really good. Again, the kids are great. Like there's no point in this episode where I was taken out by like, oh, that kid can't act.
Starting point is 00:15:42 Like all of them are pretty good. Yeah, and a lot of the like conflicts they have are very kid centric, but it doesn't make it's not babyish where we're like, all right, I don't want to watch this. It actually gave me vibes of land before time. Another kid class right there where they split up and Fern is kind of like Sarah that Trissier tops away. I hate Sarah so God damn much. I can't, but because I'm a little flip guy.
Starting point is 00:16:04 I've been for my entire life We'll be for the rest of my life, but also kind of the way she treats KB With the handicap issue where it's like she treats her as an equal But if you're if you have a handicap you do need some help sometimes in life And it was a dynamic that if it was done in book of book of fit They would have butchered horrendously and then you'd have all the Disney's going, whoa, you're bringing this handicapped character in the mix. But it was like kind of sweet in the end. Yeah, it was done well.
Starting point is 00:16:30 It's like, I like that message. Like, if kids are watching this show, that's kind of a nice, it's not an adult message to teach kids, but there's a little more depth to it than just like, yeah, treat everyone as your equal. It is like, no, but you've got to be conscious of maybe they can't do everything you can do and that was like well done in a not completely hit you over the head way because it's kids and kids have that like they just want to get it out like you know I can't do
Starting point is 00:16:56 everything you could do they have those like they almost like lash out in that way and I thought that was all good I also also loved the trash crabs, like the little ones, leading them to the big one. I tweeted before I was even done with the episode, we need trash crabs in Galaxy's Edge. And I didn't realize how evil these bastards were. But just the fact that they were crawling around, one of them had like, it looked like a protocol droid's foot. It could have been friggin' C-3PO's foot for all we know. And then they bring them to the massive trash crab, which they put out a little featurettePO's foot for all we know. And then they bring him to the massive trash crab, which they put out a little featurette about.
Starting point is 00:17:27 That was all stop motion. That was all fucking, they made that model so intricately, and they animated the face of course, when it's like roaring and stuff, but that monster is moving via stop motion. People think Christopher Nolan might use that kind of technology for the Odyssey,
Starting point is 00:17:42 cause he's obviously a very anti-CGI guy and you have giant cyclopses and stuff like that in the movie. But I thought that was so cool and so Star Wars-y in like the best, most unique way. It was almost like the fucking shiny crab from Moana. Yo, my guy Tom Towa. Now we're talking my language, Bob. Maybe the trash crabs in Galaxy's Edge
Starting point is 00:18:02 can like bring you to the Moana part of the park I'm so I'm a one is that cut we'd have to go all the way at that cup But hey, I'm in just follow you. It's a long journey. The trash crabs go on home. They keep saying home They can bring it up. Come on. Follow follow follow. Yeah food food. I was looked at the trash crabs instantly Not a surprise. I think I've realized my favorite things in Star Wars have some sort of robotic parts in them Whether it's our to the Millennium Falcon, and now the Treskrabs. And just like kind of the twist, you didn't know if they were good or bad, and when we found out they were bad.
Starting point is 00:18:32 And kind of like you said with the lessons learned, Wynn this whole time is trying to become this hero, and he tried to do it with a lightsaber, completely made himself look like a dickhead. And then he becomes a hero She's like thanks for saving my life Jedi and he just you know melted some wires down and put it in and he saved a life I thought that was a cool not everything has to be the force and lightsabers It might just be like a lesson to the people who are gonna be doing the future Star Wars projects
Starting point is 00:18:58 Hey, it doesn't have to be the same formula every single time. It could be poetry and rhymes, but it's not the same word. It's kind of the nice thing about poetry, right? And the weird thing is in the context of Star Wars and this crazy fantastical land, the surgery he did where he uses the wires, melts them down and pours it, I could kind of buy it. Like in a weird way, like obviously it's ridiculous, but I could kind of buy that he just made a little metal rod
Starting point is 00:19:23 and that was the replacement they needed. And I straight up dumb brain at work. I was like, is that work in real life? Just melting wires? Like, is that okay? And I just I just let it fly. And I was like, it looks cool when he did it to and he called it in the sand. Yeah, that was cool. She she calls him a Jedi. That was nice. She's like, thanks. Thanks for saving my life Jedi. And he was a little like, oh shit, I got called the Jedi. He's been looking up to that. Yeah. And I liked them seeing the X-Wings early on because Jod gets taken in by his former gang. And then the X-Wings chase them down as he's leaving with all the jewels. And I like that too.
Starting point is 00:19:59 He's like a true pirate with everything draped around him. And they're like, oh, the pirates. And then they kind of put it together like, oh, wait a minute, he was telling us the X-Wings were bad. I think the X-Wings are the good guys. And that was a cool scene, SM-33 getting electrocuted. I felt very bad for him. This guy just, he keeps taking Ls. And I know that some of them are self-inflicted
Starting point is 00:20:19 when he's got rewiring and he's attacking people. But every episode we're like, you think that's the end of him? Nah, he'll be back, right? He back yeah when he got that when he took that one big shot i was like oh no we could tell it's kind of more disarming one uh urkel urkel like is kind of just trying to make his this is going on his reel he's trying he's yelling yeah that's a good way put it's going on his reel for sure he's like no captain he's not saying shit like that yeah he's not taking like's like, no captain. He's not saying shit like
Starting point is 00:20:45 that. Yeah. He's not taking like if he gets the ball open, he's not taking a lap. He's trying to windmill dunk it so they can leave as Pat Bev would say. And then I like the things with the X-wing being the bad guys or the good guys. Yeah. Our boy says from a certain point of view, right? It's like from bad guys point of view, the Empire or pirates in this time, in this sense, X-Wings are the bad guys. But to like normal people like you and I, the X-Wings are probably the good guys. So I did appreciate those bad ass too. Just hearing that blast down from them. I'm almost expecting a Carson Teeva cameo. Yeah, me too. You know, that did you lose anyone on Alderaan guy, if you don't remember. Um, I feel like he might make an appearance.
Starting point is 00:21:30 He seems to be like almost like the Stan Lee right now, if he's appeared in all these shows and connecting the universes. It's the same timeline, so we'll see. We could get a cameo here or there with him. Are you, where do you rank? 33 on the power rankings of characters of this series Good question Neal's number one for me. Obviously Neal's my guy
Starting point is 00:21:56 Number two would probably be Jod because I'm pretty fascinated in his character number three Maybe whim because I just feel like young me is like would relate to Wim being a Star Wars fan and he's kind of that. But SM33 would maybe be right afterwards. KB, this episode did a good job of like, I don't know if I like would have known KB's name off the top of my head like that before this episode. And now I'm kind of like, oh, she's kind of a cool half droid. She's got the coordinates to add at and fucking plugged into her head so if they get to the ship like that that was kind of a cool thing
Starting point is 00:22:30 but yeah I would say SM 33 is probably four for me that's fair I think I have him one but that's just again droid guy machine guy in Star Wars but I think you can kind of slide him around because every time he like gets shot or powers that oh damn it I want more 33 funny his his eye moment is still maybe the hardest I laughed when he said eye twice and he backed up. I can't say I know no ad-attent or whatever I could I'm saying that for like days afterwards. And he said it with Jodd we didn't get a lot of job FaceTime but when we did we got like oh he Jude Law act in his dick off just absolutely crushing that like you're hungry if you want to stay hungry and just get fed little scraps but no
Starting point is 00:23:17 we're gonna go get the we're gonna go plunder I love how he's like you always wanted to get that like spa or whatever, right? If you want to do that, you gotta come with me. So I always appreciate people trying to, you know, tug at the heartstrings. And I feel like Yondu had to talk his way out of stuff like that a bunch of times. Oh yeah. Ravagers feel like you said early on in the season for sure. And that scene, it didn't have the emotional weight of this, the backstory of this. It wasn't the quality of this.
Starting point is 00:23:44 But I almost picture them pitching that to Jude Law as, weight of this, the backstory of this, it wasn't the quality of this, but I almost pictured them pitching that to Jude Law as this is your Tyrion Lannister big speech moment, where it's like your back is up against the wall, you are going to be killed in that shot where they show him the airlock, and you see everything go out into space like that. It was a little like, oh shit, that's a little fuckin' scary,
Starting point is 00:24:02 that's a scary death to send someone out to. That's their version of walk the plank. And I thought Jude Law was very good like oh shit. That's a little fucking scary. That's a scary death to send someone out to that's their version of Walk the plank and I thought Jude Law was very good in that scene Like you said we didn't get a lot of them But where we got him was great also glow weed was brought up in that scene and I immediately was like glow weed I gotta look this up on wookie pedia Nothing prior. So are we inventing a new glow weed there like you wanted the glow weed farm What is a glow weed farm and who is smoking that glow weed? Well, glow weed one day ago was added Bob. One day ago. See, so it's it's new as of Skeleton Crew. And all we have is was a plant that could be
Starting point is 00:24:39 grown on plantations. The Quorum pirate Glurb has had been saving up to buy a plantation to buy there you go So how about the wookipedia stat a little round of applause for Wikipedia getting that up that quick Wow I didn't expect that so I'm looking to see when the last edit was I mean it says a day ago So that would be Thursday and this came out on Tuesday night, so they're they're there They're they're still working during the holiday season It's just nice to know Wikipedia is still doing their thing. And then I think we're all on the same page here. When that spaceship is going
Starting point is 00:25:12 and you have the trash compact or whatever, we're getting Toy Story 3 vibes and we're just- Oh, I said it. I said it to Rachel. And the gang. Yeah, I said it out loud. Yeah, I was like, oh my God, this is like Toy Story 3, the fire, the way it was looking like the teeth
Starting point is 00:25:26 were kind of clawing into the ship. And that was a good feel of trying to get the Millennium Falcon working. They gave us those shades, even the hitting something and then it kind of working. And I said to Lady Fox, I was like, oh my god, yeah, that's a classic Star Wars trope. If something's not working, hit it really hard.
Starting point is 00:25:43 It'll start working. And then the reveal of blowing up that outer layer Yeah, that's a classic Star Wars trope. If something's not working, hit it really hard. It'll start working. And then the reveal of blowing up that outer layer of the ship and sliding out almost like a snake shedding its skin. And now this ship is sleek and it's fucking shiny. It is so cool. Such a cool, unique thing we've never seen
Starting point is 00:26:00 in Star Wars before and a badass end to the episode. I honestly loved this episode. That was awesome. We are a BDH simp, but I agree. Yeah. We're not a BDH simp. I think we stole a question on the dozen of face mash-up. Bryce Dallas Howard was one of the people and Eddie got it. So I always have a special place in my heart. Someone guessed Jessica Chastain or something. I believe so. I think it was Glennie who was a ace at, usually an ace at the face matches.
Starting point is 00:26:29 So yeah, the snakeskin, I saw someone say, I hope at some 33, the first thing he does is, all right, who hit the button? Cause they're like, you're not supposed to. They're gonna know instantly that they hit the button. But very cool. I saw another person say like, you know, they're gonna be selling the toy of the ship.'s gonna have two versions of it the sleek version and the people are already pissed because the Lego exists and it's
Starting point is 00:26:52 So people are like we just got this for Christmas and it's outdated already Wow, the ship doesn't look like and the new ship is definitely cooler than the old one. So it's like yeah They're they're definitely doing that Lucasfilm was like, oh yeah, get that first ship out quick. The mounts don't mess around. You guys gotta learn. I know I was just in Florida. I was looking up all the Disney prices. Everything is more expensive since I was there a year and a half ago. It's crazy. The Disney boys are tripping costs twice as much now. It's nuts. It is nuts. We have a good year ahead of us for Star Wars, I think, in 2025. We've got Andor
Starting point is 00:27:25 Season 2, obviously. And it's the 20th anniversary of Revenge of the Sith this year, which is crazy. You would imagine they're going to re-release that in theaters around May, like they did for the Phantom Menace 25th anniversary. And even crazier to think about, It is the 10 year anniversary of The Force Awakens. It's been 10 years, in December obviously, so at the end of the year, but they put out both logos. There's like a Force Awakens 10 and a Revenge of the Sith 20. I will go see both of those in the theater again.
Starting point is 00:27:58 I love both of those movies. I know the sequels are what they are, very polarizing to a lot of people. The Force Awakens was one where it felt like it brought the fan base together, at least a big part of the fan base. We went to the celebration right after the Force Awakens in Orlando, actually. And it was it was just awesome. Everyone is talking about Star Wars like it was back.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Unfortunately, the last Jedi movie that I love split the fan base yet again. But, you know, it's like poetry, it rhymes, it works in circles, it goes back and forth. But yeah, big anniversaries for Star Wars this year and Andor's season two is the most faith I've had on a Star Wars project being good in a long time. Like there's no doubt in my mind that's gonna be awesome.
Starting point is 00:28:40 Yeah, especially after hearing they're spending a bazillion dollars on it and I'm like, good, put all behind and hopefully you crush the bit has a light shelf life. It ends at this season. We know everyone basically dies in Rogue One. So this is the perfect way to go about it. So I'm with you. You're planning your flag.
Starting point is 00:28:55 This is gonna be a good Star Wars year. I guess it's Andor or bust, which if I had one project to feel good about, it would be that one. Also, though, to be fair, like you said, I actually happened to stay in the same hotel that we were in when we went to what was it called? Celebration. And I was like trying to figure out how long ago was that? Like that was the last Jedi trailer, right? Came out that night. And you slept over. You got some awesome videos of like all the nerds nerding out.
Starting point is 00:29:22 It was great. And I'm like, man, that was a long seven, eight, I don't even know what the number was. But there was such a good vibe there. And it's almost like, what's the name of the movie where the people go to Skywalker Ranch to see the movie? Oh, fanboys. So it was like fanboys. We're like, we went down, we were so excited.
Starting point is 00:29:41 And it's like, if only those two people, Robbie and Clem, knew what Robbie and Clem post Release of last Jedi how everything changed we were so in lockstep going into that I could I said to my wife I said I remember writing the blog reviewing the Trailer when it got released as soon as it came out because you were then watching it in person and you gave a whole big Included all the stuff that you had camping out they get all that content and then obviously your thoughts which was basically non-stop jizz for like Yeah, 20 minutes and
Starting point is 00:30:14 Then just kind of what the movie became which is again Why we do not just put all our faith in just the trailer the trailer is a nice little taste But it is not the meal. We have to learn that Although it worked out for me. Yeah, I went in for the last Jedi seven times in theaters That was still the most I've ever seen a movie in theaters any day to this day is seven times for the last night force awakens I saw five times Rise of Skywalker saw three even that movie. I saw three so that's how much I love Star Wars Rogue one. I think I saw three. So that's how much I love Star Wars. Rogue One I think I saw
Starting point is 00:30:45 four times in theaters. Solo I saw twice in theaters. But that was also you know it's a weird time. I think they released that one and is it spring or I forget. All right let's talk about Creature Commandos as well. We also had episode six of this this week and it seems like it follows similar structures the rest of the episodes, whereas we have the main story going on, the main story being the active timeline story, but we also get the backstory of one of the characters this week being Dr. Phosphorus,
Starting point is 00:31:16 who if you didn't know is a Batman villain. And if you didn't know that, this episode makes it pretty clear. It shows Gotham City at the beginning, the gargoyles, the cool kind of green filter over everything, which I thought was a cool choice because Batman the animated series, Gotham has those red skies
Starting point is 00:31:32 and it creates a really cool vibe and a cool comic booky gothic feel. My brother has always said, and I think someone else has said like about the Tim Burton movies, they almost feel like they could take place in like a snow globe. It's like this such a fantastical element to
Starting point is 00:31:48 it so I thought Gotham looked really cool we get our first look at Batman in that you see a silhouette of him a few times and I thought that was really cool and I saw an interview with James Gunn where he said like the original episode the original cut had a lot more Batman in it and he's like I'm not ready to commit to a costume so let's give a lot more shadows. But I thought this was cool. It was heartbreaking again for Dr. Phosphorus, not quite as heartbreaking as the Weasel episode, but there's some heavy shit.
Starting point is 00:32:16 His wife, his family, spoilers, not around anymore. And he gets sent in to his cancer saving machine. He's trying to cure cancer over here. The mob fucking sends him in there I thought we were getting before I saw who wasn't the caption thought it's gonna be maybe a Falcone or Moroni Even when the bride and Nina go to that Brothel and the the like lady is working there that they call her madam. She's like the pimp She had a voice that I thought was maybe like the woman who did Sal Maroney's wife, who was Sal Maroney's wife. Cause she had that dark, nasally voice like that or whatever.
Starting point is 00:32:53 It's like, she's a smoker. What did you think of episode six of Creature Commandos? Yeah, I had two notes here. Number one, Scatagory's rules. When she said, yeah, plays categories. I love how the fish woman is just so naive or just has such innocence to her, where then the bride is quite the opposite
Starting point is 00:33:11 and they're in a brothel, obviously. And then two, James Gunn is a sick, whisper this, fuck, cause AJ's in the room. He is one sick puppy, man. Oh my goodness gracious. Cause like the whole phosphorus origin story, whatever you want to call it. And they're wiping his blood on his wife's face on the weapons. They're laughing at him. He's horrified. Um that was kind of
Starting point is 00:33:35 I'm then I'm like going back. I'm like well we had all the whole weasel thing. Uh the Frankenstein killing that nice old lady and now this I'm like James Gunn is just issues in the tissues that boy has and We're learning a lot about James so far here So I'm hoping this is it won't be like this in all the DC universe, but it does make you like Empathize sympathize whatever the right word would be for these people why they are the way they are But he's a badass dude phosphorus man or whatever
Starting point is 00:34:02 He's cool his character design and everything when it shows him getting his revenge on the mob and then taking over the club and he's wearing that cool like purple outfit with the crazy, almost like the mask or something. He's got a crazy hat and his gang looked like an homage to the Batman forever, like neon gang. They were all, they had the neon skeleton face paint and shit. Dancing around. I thought that was cool. Yeah. So that whole scene
Starting point is 00:34:25 was cool. His whole character design is cool. When he was a human. They did draw him a lot like his voice actor Alan Tudyk, who is Steve the pirate and dodgeball. Is that his name Steve? Yeah. And he is the the jerk bunch of shit. From Road Trip, where he, Yeah. He's in the VA or whatever, that he ended up eating, Yes. Because he has a crush on Amy Smart, so, he's in a bunch of shit. Go back and check out my interview with him as well.
Starting point is 00:34:51 There's an interview with him on the channel, he voices the Joker in Harley Quinn, he voiced Clayface in this, he voices Clayface in that. Great, great voice actor, real actor, he was in Resident Alien, a sci-fi show, that I feel like people didn't watch only because it was on sci-fi, but it was really good, he was in Resident Alien, a sci-fi show that I feel like people didn't watch only because it was on sci-fi, but it was really good. He was really funny in it.
Starting point is 00:35:10 What else did I have in my notes here? Oh, Weasel was playing with wolves the whole episode, kind of forming a bond. I was really enjoying the Weasel stuff with the wolves. It's only little stuff in the episode, but also hoping, oh, please don't eat those wolves by the end of the episode. I I'm always wondering like, is he gonna actually snap and go a little crazy? Oh, the bride respectfully sup. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:35:31 respectfully sup. I'm with you on that. By the end of that episode. I'm very happy. I was not alone because there are times on this pod where I feel like I'm alone on the horny hill and you know Bob was with me. No, no, no. Hi, a few of the listeners as well. Someone says, is it phosphorus too? when they reunite and they're headed towards the castle I think I was like geez that's hot and she was like shut the fuck up yeah she's like not not having it at all oh our boy Frank is gonna be you know he's not gonna be able to walk it when he's getting crazy kills in this episode to the private jet when he fucking
Starting point is 00:36:01 grabbed their heads and Frankenstein's crazy and they think he he put Rick flag senior in a coma Yeah, so we know Rick's probably gonna be okay still don't know what's going on with my GI robot I hope he's gonna be okay the fact he's doing the credits makes me feel like he's okay But you never tell me a big save in the end and then he'll be like, you know, were they Nazis and they'll be like yes again You'll be like they were the Nazis again. No, I'll make the call now Friday, January 3, I'm making the call someone like, there's going to be like a big moment where we need the heroes to come through. It's going to look bleak. And the guy, whoever's in charge is going to have like a Hitler like mustache or like a swastika looking thing and pop up, pop up, pop
Starting point is 00:36:39 up. She got a robot out of nowhere. Say a little suit from the war gets like right there or something. Yeah, that would be good. That would be good. Another good episode, though, another one where it was like this wasn't I wouldn't say this was like one of my favorite episodes of the season, but it wasn't one of my least favorites either. I liked seeing Batman at the end. I thought that shot of him and the way everyone screamed in horror
Starting point is 00:37:00 when you see him in the skylight with the fucking lightning, like an homage to Batman the animated series I thought I thought that was sweet. So yeah, I'm still in on creature commandoes It's still the easiest watch of the week where I put 20 minutes aside and makes me laugh. The animation is great I like this 2d style. I'm a little worried about this new spider-man show. We're seeing the trailer for I don't love the animation style again It's like a weird mix of 2d and 3d Again, I think when you're doing cartoons at this point either go full 3d or full 2d There's a weird media. I mean into the spider-verse if you have that level of animation, obviously, that's an outlier
Starting point is 00:37:40 But for TV and stuff, I feel like don't half-ass two things, whole-ass one thing. Very much an anti-half measure is just like Walter White, right? It's full measured or nothing when it comes to our opinions on that kind of stuff. I kind of compare the Creature Commandos and Skeleton Crew to the Knicks right now. The Knicks are on, I think, a nine-game winning streak, and it's been against a bunch of either bad or injured teams. And it's like, I watch the games, I have fun. I know it's not like beating all these awesome teams. We're like, oh man, this is a championship team. But it's like, I feel good.
Starting point is 00:38:13 I have fun watching. And I can't wait to watch again. And that's exactly what it's been every single week, which considering some of the stuff we've watched on this show, cannot be said for much bigger and more hyped franchises, right? So big, and could it be so big year ahead for DC? Is it just Superman?
Starting point is 00:38:33 No, I think we've got maybe another show coming. Let's see DC 2025 slate. They're definitely filming Supergirl. Filming for Supergirl starts in January. Alright, so let's start with Marvel actually because I just found Marvel first. In Marvel, we have nine projects releasing, which already now worries me. Oh boy. That's a lot. I know. The first being the animated Spider-Man show. So that's, yes,
Starting point is 00:39:01 it's a project, but I would put it here below. Captain America, February 14 yes, it's a project but I would you know put it here below Captain America February 14th Valentine's Day me and Clem got a Valentine's date that they date the Captain America Daredevil born again in March. I think that one will be good Thunderbolts in May which looks pretty good to me Ironheart at the end of June which I don't know what to think about because we've talked about this on the podcast, they like filmed that in like 2022. I think they like wrapped it in 20 and then had to do reshoots and reshoots. We'll see about that one. Fantastic four at the end of July, although now people are saying that it's probably going to get delayed. And I think that's a good thing. I think it's going to give them more time for CGI. I don't think they should be releasing that and Superman like at the same time. Like give Superman a
Starting point is 00:39:47 little break. Eyes of Wakanda, an animated series in August, supposed to be pretty cool. Marvel Zombies animated series in October, that's gonna be their Halloween offering this year. That's TVMA. So I think that could be cool as well. Robert Kirkman is involved. And then the Wonder Man TV show live action in December. So that's Marvel Slate. The DC studio slate for next year, we've got Superman, July, of course, Peacemaker season two in August. So just two things, I guess.
Starting point is 00:40:21 And they're filming both Lanterns and Supergirl one woman of tomorrow and potentially clay face so I'm gonna put like the award winner for best year I'm gonna put DC as the favorite at minus 120 I'm gonna put Star Wars because it's very it's only like they have to get like one or two projects but they have to get like one or two projects but they have to hit them. Right? And if you hit, if you miss an end or you miss the Superman, catastrophes. I'll put DC or Star Wars plus 150. I'm gonna put Marvel like plucks plus like 6,000. Because I think there's, it's like a parlay with Marvel. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:41:02 there's two movies that go like different ways I think the Captain America movie and the Thunderbolts can go I there's times I feel better There's times I feel worse a lot of those shows were like made in the time where I feel like they were just still throwing Stuff against the wall and then Fantastic Four like if they just pushed that to 26 I'd be honestly all right with it But it's like that is the one thing that I think could have won them the year But I just I don't like that would have to be so good and everything else would have to be such a decent level. It's not even fair.
Starting point is 00:41:29 Your sample's orange is one project, two projects, nine. I can't believe you said the word nine, Bob. The number nine. Nine times, Mr. Biller, unbelievable. I'm trying to see if, I saw a tweet somewhere where they said, yeah, okay, people were saying that it might swap spots with like a Predator movie or something the studio has coming out,
Starting point is 00:41:52 where maybe like the new Predator will instead be there, which I think the new Predator will be pretty sweet as well actually. Predator 2025, Predator Badlands, yeah. Which that one would be November 7th. That might push Captain America, that might push Fantastic Four to November. Which again, like you're saying,
Starting point is 00:42:09 I actually wouldn't have an issue with that. Like, I'm really, really looking forward to the Fantastic Four. This feels like the summer of Superman. So I don't know if it's smart to put Fantastic Four out the same month as Superman, like two weeks after its release or whatever the original plan was there.
Starting point is 00:42:25 Yeah, unless you feel you have an absolute smash, sledgehammer hit and even that. Yeah, it could become the summer of superheroes. And like you said, it could just be 2025, we're frigging back, we're on the upswing here. But that could also happen if Superman hits in the summer and then Fantastic Four hits in November and people are talking about 2025 as that year already.
Starting point is 00:42:46 Yeah, and then you roll into next year and then you start talking Avengers coming back with the Secret Wars, X-Men hype and whatever they have on the deck for 26, which God can only imagine is there because I didn't realize we had this much for 25. But then at some point DC and Star Wars are gonna have to move their back row, right?
Starting point is 00:43:04 They have to start making projects after this year. And I think they do have a lot. Like the DC slate for 2026 is pretty loaded and they have a lot in development already. So that'll be cool. Also, I downloaded Marvel Rivals. I've been getting asked about Marvel Rivals by a lot of people. Devlin, our guy in the office, has been telling me, I will love it.
Starting point is 00:43:27 It's basically Overwatch, but Marvel, you played it. You said it was pretty good. You did play it, right? I liked it. I can already tell I'd be terrible at it against other people, but I downloaded it, played it, said, all right, that's cool, deleted it, because I was like, I don't have a chance
Starting point is 00:43:42 against another game. I'm gonna give it a try, and if I like it, again, I say this every year chance. Again, it's another game. I'm gonna give it a try and if I like it, again, I say this every year, maybe I'll do some video game streams. But Nick Hamilton has set up the Pup Punk Room where we are now capable of that. So I'm gonna give it a try this weekend and we'll see how I am at it.
Starting point is 00:43:57 If I completely hate it, I might not do streams because that might not be fun. Or it might be, maybe even just me getting frustrated will make people laugh. We'll see. The old Smitty way. Yeah. I tell you, Smitty's Fortnite streams to this day,
Starting point is 00:44:08 like the highlights of those streams are still some of the funniest things I've ever watched apart from. So the highlights of the streams and then the live tournaments where you would have like a gaggle of like eight year old kids. Smitty's army.
Starting point is 00:44:18 Very funny, very funny stuff. Shout out Smitty. One question for you here. Yeah. So you mentioned it earlier. I have not had a chance because I was traveling to watch Squid Game Season 2. Loved Squid Game Season 1. Season 2 felt unnecessary. I didn't like the way one finished, which left the door open for two. And I feel like I'm going to dislike two. And based on the reviews I've heard, I'm probably going to be founded
Starting point is 00:44:45 in my thoughts on that because I first of all, I hear it's not even going to be wrapped up after two, which feels crazy. Yeah, they already said like, I think they might have filmed two and three at the same time. I think three comes out in the June or something next year. Maybe I don't know. And it feels like the story was it's like, it made one so cool and unique. Going back to it feels like,
Starting point is 00:45:09 so are those, warranted those feelings after you watched season two? So I'm not done with season two. I'm very early on, so I can't really speak, I think I'm like only two episodes in. I think we watched the first two episodes. The first two episodes were good, but they weren't good enough where I'm like,
Starting point is 00:45:28 oh, I understand exactly why they made season two now. But I thought there's a level of intrigue still and a level of mystery that is keeping me fascinated. At least I wanna go home and watch it tonight. So I feel like that's a good indicator of at least the first two episodes. There's interesting stuff with, I think it's like you could basically call it the mob
Starting point is 00:45:49 in the first episode that I thought was cool looking for the Squid Game people. I didn't love the ending of Squid Game season one either. I was fine with the actual ending, I won't spoil it, but the red hair and Nazina's daughter, I was just like, I don't know, that was weird, but they, you know, not undo it, but they kind of like bring you back to that and then whatever.
Starting point is 00:46:12 I won't spoil it for people because it kind of came out recently, but yeah. I'm enjoying the first two episodes at least. I like the concept of the show. I don't like that they're making an American version already. I think it's David Fincher who's great too but like they're like Netflix is making just squid game over again American and that's always like
Starting point is 00:46:30 what but we had it came out last year or three years ago whatever was everyone loved it yeah like the whole language thing was actually kind of the charm by the end of it if yeah I did it the right way I think the if you added the English it was too much but I'm a subtitles guy so I was fine with it yeah right way. I think if you added the English, it was too much, but I'm a subtitles guy, so I was fine with it. Yeah, I agree. We even saw the preview for it on our Netflix was the dubbed version, and we were laughing at it. We were like, oh yeah, we cannot watch it like that. Because it's these frigging Korean people talking like,
Starting point is 00:46:57 yeah, brother, what's going on? It's like, no, no, no, no, no. They're talking like Venice Beach surfer dudes. I think Netflix is just as it's a straight money grab for them and anytime. It's a money grab. You're gonna lose It's you can do it because you had something really good or a really good story to tell but when it's just a straight money grab I just don't think work. I know I am worried Content people were saying they didn't love like that. I guess season two is a cliffhanger to season three It's okay if she posts about it People were saying they didn't love that, I guess, season two is a cliffhanger to season three. I saw KFC posting about it.
Starting point is 00:47:26 We'll see, we'll see when I get to the end. But I am a little, I'm going in, I'm dipping my toes in the water, you know? I'm not diving right in. That's good to know. My wife, infamously, I think I said it on the pod, she had like teeth toothache because of it, and the dentist, like you've got no problems with your teeth.
Starting point is 00:47:41 It's like are you stressed out about anything? She's like, well I do watch squid games like every night before bed. He's like, there's your issue. Once we finish it, then have an issue. She wants to jump back in and I'm like, I am very much in wait for the reviews to come out before I jump in because like it's another X amount of hours, eight hours or whatever.
Starting point is 00:47:57 Yeah. And that plus the stress. I don't think I'm ready for it right now. If there was a month ahead football's over with whatever But it's like we still have enough stuff on the schedule to keep me going. I mean Hey, I got manders pretty great manders. I got nothing below for the manders Yeah that that last game against the Falcons the field goal that they kicked at the end of that game that looked perfectly online But it was just short
Starting point is 00:48:22 I was ready to slam my computer shut when I saw it online. And then again, a miracle it feels like every time Jaden fucking went down that field by himself, he went fucking Thanos, he said, I'll do it myself. And then there it is. It's gonna be a fun playoffs I think. I think maybe this is the year where they win the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:48:39 I don't wanna be too ahead of myself. This is the Super Bowl year. Not getting ahead of yourself at all, winning a bunch of games like by Hail Mary and crazy things like that. Those always work out all the way to the rookie quarterback. You're good. No, there is nothing better than having a rookie quarterback. You know it's special when Bob is the guy bringing up the sports on the pod, not me. That's how you know he's living the life. As soon as you said football, I was like, I know football. I've been waiting for football. I've heard
Starting point is 00:49:02 of football. That's the best. I was unfortunately sweating and shivering at the time. I didn't see a snap of that game. I was so out of my mind at that point on vacation. I was so sick, but it sounds like it's awesome. And just like my own thoughts, I was going to tweet this out. I love the field we have. I'm big NFL playoffs guy. Like who is it? But just the field, it's always like the one or two teams that kind of yeah it's like even the Bronx I think it's the Bronx the Bengals would be sweet I don't need to see the Bengals lose the way they've lost all season I kind of want to see the Broncos defense and maybe make a close game out of it they lose they lose
Starting point is 00:49:37 whatever but it's like the Manders are fun the the Rams are the best out of the West I think we could have gone there's a chance there good Is there a team you want to play have you even thought that far ahead? No, not really I'm because also I feel like the commanders aren't letting in a spot where like we're like, yeah We want to fucking stick it to that like right now is you know, like it's it kind of happy to be there I don't mean to be this guy but but kind of house money playoffs this time. Like, oh my God, what a season we, this was the most fun season of football I've ever watched in my life. Yep. And if you can't appreciate that, like,
Starting point is 00:50:14 I'm sure there's like NFC East fans that grew up hating the Washington teams, like the giants were, you know, rivals of you guys back in the day.
