Hey, My Mom's Basement listeners, you can find our episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube,
and Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music. Hello and welcome to My Mom's Basement,
presented by Barstool Sports and the very first Daredevil born-again edition of My Mom's Basement.
It is Robbie and Clem back again in the basement to break down another Marvel show, and we're
excited about this one, especially after the first two episodes.
I don't know if you're as excited as I am, Clem.
We haven't discussed the show yet,
but I'm pretty, pretty, pretty thrilled
with what we've got.
Clem, how did you feel about the premiere?
Robert, I feel pretty good about...
I'm trying to do my Kingpin voice.
Kingpin might become my guy. Unfortunately,
these villains just keep coming into my life and keep being awesome. Not to say Daredevil
and Matt Murdock aren't awesome in themselves. So we've talked about this a lot on the podcast
over the years. We really might have made a mistake starting a nerd podcast right at
end game and basically going straight down in terms of content quality with a few peaks. This one felt like a,
especially off of the great reviews that were coming up right before it launched those first
two episodes. It's like when you get hyped about your team and it's like you have a 27-21 win and like a 28-10 win you're like all right this might
be a fun season that's how I feel about uh this daredevil show uh we've heard a ton of good things
and it's I don't want it it's different than your typical marvel shows I think that's fair to say
right with all the legal stuff definitely but it's it's like it does feel like quality television
which is how we felt with penguin pretty quickly. And I think there are definitely some similarities
with what we had there what we have here. So it feels good, man. It just feels good
not to have it just feels good to win one like Kevin says in the office. I feel like
more so it just feels good not to have lost one yet. And granted, Secret Invasion at this point, we were feeling pretty good
and we were building up some of the performances, but this one feels real.
So I'm happy.
Yeah, even in Secret Invasion when we saw something like a huge character's death,
the immediate thought was like, hmm, I hope that this is worth something in the end.
I hope that this matters worth something in the end.
I hope that this matters.
It wasn't even like, oh my god, this is crazy.
We won't get into spoilers just yet for Daredevil,
but the first two episodes just have a different vibe
where I don't feel like, oh my god,
I hope they stick the landing on this.
Maybe that's also due to the fact that
a lot of the reviews we saw
were from people that saw the entire season.
And they're like, it just gets better, like people going crazy about it. Before we get into the actual show,
a little basement keeping. I want to remind everyone I've been doing Marvel rival streams
every Tuesday at 4 PM. They've been fun. I've been getting a little better at the game. They've been
adding things to the game that's making it more fun. Also, me and Clem did the rundown this week
with Large. It was the first rundown of the week on Monday. If you go back and listen to that,
you can get our thoughts on the Oscars
and John Cena's heel turn.
It was like a 15 minute long rundown.
And we talked about it afterwards.
It kind of just feels like an episode
of my mom's basement with large as a guest.
My mom's rundown essentially.
And large has been in the base before.
He's just basically a big old rich nerd.
So he sits in seamlessly's in seamlessly a rich nerd
Who decides to bring his AMC cups back to the movies every time he goes to save money?
He's one of a kind but definitely check that out because we're not gonna be talking Oscars or John Cena here on the podcast
So run down on Monday or if you want to listen to me and Jared talk about the John Cena
He'll turn and all of that. We also put out a from-the-top rope this week
talk about the Johnson heel turn and all of that. We also put out a from the top rope this week. Also, I'm going to have an interview tomorrow with Emily Bet-Recards, who you may know as
Felicity Smoke from Arrow, but she's going to be in a new movie playing Mildred Burke, the first
million dollar athlete, first female wrestler trained Mae Young, like going way back. So check
that out this week. It's kind of a cross between the nerdy side and also the wrestling side.
And that's a movie that features Karen Page from Daredevil.
It all is connected, Bob.
It's all connected.
It's all connected, exactly.
We got a lot of stuff coming up in the basement
because obviously Daredevil just started.
Last of Us starts in a month,
which I think you said the same week
that Daredevil, I believe, ends.
That might. It's something like that the same week that Daredevil ends.
It's something like that, yeah.
Because Daredevil, this week we got two. It's one every week, and then I believe there is another week where there's two.
I think people are saying like episodes five and six might be paired, something like that.
Yeah, I wonder if it just goes better that way. Whatever, we'll see.
Then we have Last of Us. Then Andor is the end of April, so we're going to have a Last of Us Andor double dip going out of the basement. So it's going to get
nutty here, followed by the summer blockbusters and all that stuff. So very exciting times in
the basement. And I do feel like Daredevil is the perfect way to kind of push us into that. Just
like nudge us. We're not going straight like Andor. That's going straight crack is your first joke.
This is a little bit of a gateway franchise here to get us into everything. And I'm feeling
pretty good about it right now. And speaking of getting nutty in the basement, we kind
of teased maybe a May the fourth stream. And I've been thinking about ideas for this May
the fourth stream. Talked to Nick Hamilton yesterday, and I think I've locked down what
I'm going to do on May the fourth. Being that it's the 20th anniversary of Revenge of the Sith
and we wanna celebrate that this year,
I'm going to do a 24 hour live stream
starting 12 p.m. on May the 4th
and ending 12 p.m. on the Revenge of the 5th.
And we're gonna do it all.
So you gotta cut off YouTube live streams
around the 12 hour mark.
You could only do like 12 hours. So we're gonna do 12 hours. So you gotta cut off YouTube live streams around the 12 hour mark. You could only do like 12 hours.
So we're gonna do 12 hours of old Star Wars video games,
new Star Wars video games.
People in the office, if they wanna come in on a Sunday,
they could come join me and we could talk,
reminisce about our favorite toys, movies, shows,
whatever it may be.
And then as soon as the clock strikes midnight,
we're gonna watch Revenge of the Sith together.
And then we're gonna play the video game, Revenge of the Sith. And then we're gonna watch Revenge of the Sith together, and then
we're gonna play the video game Revenge of the Sith, and then we might play the Lego
version of it. We're gonna have like a Sith themed Monday, I guess. And like Monday at
12, when the work week is starting for most people, that's when we'll end the stream.
I, it's like I'm thinking Bob Fox in his Jedi robe, then like maybe Bob Fox in like some
Star Wars pajamas. I don't know what we're gonna be getting all of it All the above
If anyone could find the Darth Jar Jar AI generated movie I will watch that with Bob
That's the only part of any prequel
Content I'll understandable. Yeah, I did not expect to listen when I said it at a midnight screening time
I knew Clem was going to be long asleep. That's closer to when I'm waking up than when I'm going
to sleep AJ's in well how did you watch Daredevil I was I was wondering about
that because it debuted at 9 p.m. last night with two episodes and I was like I
wonder if Clem just woke up the next morning and watched them early yeah I
never even got the text from you about hey man what you think and I'm like
that's just a good friend who knows his but I just thought you were sleeping
yeah so so a the Knicks are playing so I have to stay up to the next so I was Hey man, what'd you think? And I'm like, that's just a good friend who knows his buddy. I just thought you were sleeping. Yeah.
So, so, A, the Knicks were playing, so I have to stay up to the Knicks.
So I was like, I was up for that.
But they went to the second screen at one point.
However, my wife just finished watching The Last of Us for the first time.
So I went through a rewatch of The Last of Us.
So I was doing that with her.
And then I was also, at that point, I still had a little more time to get the Knicks in.
Like, let's just get Daredevil episode one done.
Did episode one at night, episode two in the morning again,
AJ woke me up at 5 30 so uh we were ready to rock so I was able to get to split it up and I wasn't
just cramming right before the test this morning so uh that's how I handled the the double dip
and or triple that's gonna be I know triple dips hopefully they're not this is crazy because I want them to be great episodes
And if they could be great in an hour long, I would love that but and or usually is like 30 to 45 range
If I remember correctly, I think it was usually around 45. These were like kind of straight up like 50 minutes an hour
They were pretty long. Yes, and so that's what I saw the timing. I was like, oh, that's gonna hurt me here potentially
Yeah, and listen cheap guy by the I don't know how I signed up for it I was like, oh, that's gonna hurt me here potentially. Yeah.
Listen, cheap guy by the, I
don't know how I signed up for
it. I paid 299 a month for
Disney Plus right now cuz I'm
I came back on the bundle. I'm
bundled up but I also get in
the ad. So, now, that's adding
like 2 minutes. Oh, so, you got
commercials in in in between.
Oh, yeah. Oh, interesting. Very
I have a family. I have a
mortgage. I had, you know, Bob has a wedding to plan for. He's
just here going ad free. God bless.
And before we get into Daredevil, real quick, I'm just curious how the last of us holds
up on a rewatch for you a year later.
Fine wine, Bob. Fine wine. And I can tell my wife was trying not to like really get
into it because my daughter's
Obsessed with it. She was obsessed with it the first time she watched it and by the end she was like, you know Grabbing the couch like screaming and this and I'm like, man
This show just really didn't get to see someone going through it for the first time which I didn't get to see
Obviously because I'll do it on my own
Just seeing her go through the ups and downs and just like was it Bill and Frank?
Was that the name of the characters in episode 3?
Did she get as devastated by that as we did?
She did, but there was a couple other characters along the way.
But I think that kind of...
I was like, oh, welcome to the Last of Us universe, where everyone you love essentially dies.
I didn't listen. It's not spoilers.
It's not really the case.
But it's such a fucked up show that really messes with your mind.
Right. So we can agree on that.
I'm excited for that to come back. I'm really excited.
I'll tell you what, Linda Ronstadt has been playing in this house on loop now.
She is back in this house's good graces.
Linda Ronstadt never left the house's good graces, but man, it's good to have her back in my life.
All right, let's get into Daredevil, and to get into Daredevil Born Again,
I feel like we have to say right off the bat, we're gonna talk spoilers.
Like, it's very difficult to talk about either one of these episodes without really getting into,
like, a major thing that happens. And it's also, here we go, spoiler, spoiler, spoilers.
And listen, for the future, programming note, anyone else that just wants to come in the basement,
just hang with the boys for a little bit, we'll always have a little basement keeping and then once the spoiler comes on,
that's the police station.
Yeah, we'll anything right off the bat without warning you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So being we're in the spoiler territory, hopefully everyone's out.
Everyone turn off your podcasts.
Everyone don't crash your car.
If you're listening in the radio, pull over, hit pause.
There's a reason I'm wearing a suit today, Clem.
And it's not because I'm trying to look like Matt Murdock here.
I'm not wearing the glasses like Matt.
It's because I'm paying my respects.
Paying my respects to someone we lost last night.
Rest in peace, my dog Foggy Nelson.
This was an unbelievable way to kick off Daredevil Born Again.
I did not see this coming even though
People saw this coming like people were hinting at this on Twitter before we even debuted and I was like now they wouldn't do that
I don't think they would do that. Like I don't think they're gonna do that in this season, right? Maybe season finale
No, no, no first ten minutes of the show in an unbelievably
heart-wrenching tense
in an unbelievably heart-wrenching, tense, uh, adrenaline-pumping sequence.
It was, like, amazingly done, don't get me wrong.
But it really hurt me after watching 39 episodes in 30 days and falling in love
with this character.
Uh, the actor. He's like a that guy. I don't know his name,
but I was like, oh yeah, that guy. Let me pull it up. He really, he really deserves a shout out because
his, his portrayal is foggy is so fucking good
It's Elden Henson and in the show Clem. I know you didn't watch all of the
You know one through three, but you watch the recaps of seasons one through three
He is such a well-written character that Jose our friend that is an absolute comic expert in a comic
is an absolute comic expert and a comic loyalist in a way where he really wants the screen adaptations
to resemble the characters he loves and knows in the comics.
He texted me about Foggy a few weeks ago.
He said, Foggy in the show has written way better
than he's ever been written in the comics.
In the show, he is just a loyal friend
who is a rock for Karen and Matt.
When they're down, he picks them up.
When they need to be put back in their place, he puts them back in their place. He always says the right thing.
He's always a shoulder to cry on. He's like a perfect likable character. In the comics,
I think he's like a drunk who cheats on his wife or something. It's weird that those are
the two directions, but I'm telling you, he is so, so, so lovable that when he like even lady fox my fiance
when he gets shot she's like no like they're not gonna fucking kill him in
the first like you can't kill foggy like this is such a good character and in the
original script apparently he wasn't gonna be in the show at all the show was
gonna begin at that one year later mark and just pick up with foggy's dead and
they were like no this is like we need to show how heart wrenching this was for Matt, how it's an experience that breaks
him in a way. But yeah, it's it's bullseye decks who we meet in the Daredevil original
series. This really picks off not right where that leaves off because there's years in between
the two and they reference events from echo and stuff and getting shot in the face, the
eyes stuff like that. But it feels like a direct continuation doesn't feel like a reboot to me
So I am curious how that all landed for you like that opening sequence as someone that wasn't a daredevil viewer
So my first note here was do we like foggy because I remember him
Recaps and I'm like, I feel like he's a good guy
I feel he's a real good guy
But then I couldn't remember if if one of the recaps he had like a little bit of
dirt in his past sounds like this guy was known as a whistle though clean as a
whistle yeah that I'm almost happy I didn't get that attached I the real
fucking loser I feel terrible for Elden Henson to go they're bringing dare
devil back is like oh man I'm getting that Disney cash oh let's rock at least
if I have another a season under my belt maybe two and I become
beloved then my rolls are gonna open up and nope didn't even make it through
like I mean didn't even make to the credits I think that might have been
pre-credits. Yeah before the opening credits which are new and those were
cool too how it transitioned from him throwing the helmet off the roof to the
opening credits they did say right off the bat yesterday,
they were like, he's already cast in season two.
So I think we're getting some foggy flashbacks
along the way, maybe to show new viewers
who are tuning in for the first time in Born Again,
their relationship and how far back they go.
They were college pals.
They try to show you a little bit in the beginning,
which I liked of him flirting with the other lawyer, and Matt's listening in with
Karen, he's like, Oh, no, he's using acronyms, like, he's just
cringing. They're like, foggy, don't have the game for her,
does he? Like that stuff is so perfect in their friendship and
how it was established and written and developed throughout
the show. You know, they have moments like any other friends
that they fought and they split up the practice, but they always come back together.
And it's usually foggy being the one to extend the olive branch.
Even there's moments in the third season where Matt abandons them.
And basically it's like, I'm just daredevil now, Matt Murdock.
I'm leaving that life behind cause I don't want anyone else at risk.
And Karen's kind of like, fuck him. He's not going to be there for us.
And foggy is like, no, no, no, not fuck him. We got to get him back like he's the one to reason everyone down and it's it's a devastating loss for the daredevil community
That's tough. I
Mourn for you guys with you guys
Again as I'm watching him bleed out, but by the way
I was like he might survive this but then that one little trail of blood that went like pass his shoulder I was like that's the sign that it's over
That is the actual- and the heartbeat the way they played that because Daredevil could hear heartbeats
And he really listens in through that the whole series
That's like a big factor in it him listening to the heartbeat and listening to Karen plead with him
Please stay with me foggy while he's fighting bullseye and while bullseye midfight is killing people in the bar still for fun even going up the stairs
It was fucking crazy. This was this was fucking cinema
It was a crazy way to open the show and if you didn't do it perfectly
I think I would have been a little upset upset about them killing foggy in the manner they did but it was done perfectly
I feel like they don't really do death scenes in the MCU that good and I
Leading it off with that, probably like the heck of a like, all right, we're going balls to the wall.
We're not going to be developing stuff.
We have to wait for all these pieces.
We have to build up the Jenga tower.
We're going to start knocking pieces down.
I appreciate that as someone that's coming in fresh.
And I think it does hit for the people like you who actually did watch the original.
Even that being said, though, when I watch lawyers bantering and talking shop, I feel so fucking stupid. I was feeling so
stupid. And like those kinds of bars where it's like a dive bar, but it's like a lawyer
dive bar. So it's a little, it's propped up a little bit, right? It's just a nicer place.
It's like, like when you go to a Toad's place or something and there's the Yale dive bars
around. Yeah, I know everyone in here smarter than me. They're probably like researching cancer
and solving everything right now.
And I was like really intimidated with Karen
because I was in love with her from the jump.
And I don't know how her and Matt seemed to have like that.
Maybe they will, maybe they won't.
And they were about to.
And then obviously their fucking best friend
just gets murdered in cold blood.
So yeah, that was stuff.
Oh no, shout out. Interesting. Why? They've been a thing in cold blood. So yeah, that was interesting.
They've been a thing in the show. This they had that like border where it was like that
passes the friend zone or they had that one. He's like, yeah, I got a shout out. Foggy
just because I always see him as Fulton from Mighty Ducks. That is sure Now we got the foggy stuff. Tell me more and
I'm doing this also. I have a little bit from the
recaps but for the people that didn't watch your awesome recap on YouTube or like went back and watched
Tell me a little bit about bulls eye here
So bulls eye this guy decks decks point Dexter was a like crooked FBI agent that Kingpin got to in season 3 and
Kingpin was able to manipulate him. He's fucking crazy. He's a psycho creep
he was like stalking this girl Julie and
Totally in love with her Kingpin kind of thought like oh, this is the love of his life
How can I send him off the deep edge and send him off the edge and make sure he's
only loyal to me?
He fucking kills Julie.
So now Dexter's just like, he doesn't know who to turn to.
He becomes a Kingpin loyalist, basically, still working for the FBI.
And Kingpin has him frame Daredevil for a bunch of murders and crimes around the city.
So for the entire third season of Daredevil, which is based on the born again comic a little bit,
Dex is wearing the Daredevil suit
and Daredevil's wearing the homemade black suit.
And it's like, you're watching Daredevil fight Daredevil.
It's like when the Undertaker fought the Impostor.
Like it's straight up purple gloves versus gray gloves.
It's awesome.
And he is bullseye.
So he nails everyone with everything.
You could tell from the jump when he like nails something with a fucking paper clip or something like that's kind of his thing throws knives everywhere.
At the end of Daredevil season three, he finds out that Kingpin killed Julie and he goes to. Kingpin paralyzes him. So he now has like an
exoskeleton spine, I guess that allows him to exist. But yeah, they put him away pretty quickly. I assume he's gonna be breaking out of jail at some point, but I thought Matt Murdock's
speech to put him away was very well done. And even when he has to pause and Karen walks in a little late and they're just
disheveled. The family is broken up after the loss of Foggy. Foggy was the glue that held everything together now you
don't have that glue. Yeah okay so that that makes sense and I was reading up a little bit on like
the the reddits and stuff and it sounds like Bullseye is an absolute just like lunatic in the show
in the comics all things considered so that I'm kind of excited to have him even though
I'm like those guys I don't even like having around like they just want to watch burn. I don't really yeah true again
I like a villain with a little bit of thinking to him and little bit of humanity here and there at least they're up
No, I'm gonna be in doubt. I don't I think it's gone from him at this point
It's he's such a creep and we learn about his backstory and he used to like keep the tapes that
he would they would record his childhood therapy sessions
he would keep the tapes and listen to them back to calm himself down then he burnt all the tapes but Daredevil had one
so he fucking brought it up brought up his childhood and really got in his head. It's a long history again
go back and watch my everything you need to know before Daredevil Born Again.
Even if you watch the two episodes,
you're a little confused, I think you can go back
and it'll help fill in the gaps a little bit there.
Karen, on the other hand, she, you'll learn,
I'm sure throughout Born Again, she's a liability.
She makes the craziest decisions of all time.
And in like the first episode, she's framed for murder,
Matt and Fawkey get her out of it.
And then from there she's like on the hunt to solve
what's going on with Union ally, Kingpin.
And she makes these decisions like,
she'll just like go meet the Kingpin's mom
in a nursing home, that's not a great son.
Also with Ben Yurick, who we meet the niece of
in Daredevil Born Again.
B.B. Yurick, who we get the little flashes of
like news vlogging, I guess, that is the nephew of someone that Kingpin or the niece of someone
that Kingpin killed in the first season for trying to expose him. So that scene where
Kingpin sitting down with her and he's like, I knew your uncle, very good reporter. He
fucking strangled her uncle to death for trying to put out a story about him. So this is layered, you know, it's
They're doing a good job. I think of bridging the gap between old viewers and new viewers
But I definitely think the experience is very enhanced if you watch the show
Because this feels more like a season four to me than a reboot. Yeah, someone that didn't watch all the old ones
I'm like I could tell that there's more to that when he said oh Ben and I'm like, Oh, we've definitely met him in the past. So for me, it worked for you.
It worked even better. I think that's the winner shows at its best. And like you said,
Bob, for the fucking like, the haters who are going to come out against Marvel, I think
that opening scene with the drama, plus the, I mean, it was a fun as fuck fight scene.
And just the interesting dynamic where they're cutting in between the two. It's like, you could be a Marvel hater. You have to be like, that was pretty fucking good.
That was a hell of a way to start things off. And it's the only time we get Daredevil for
the first two episodes and you're not feeling like, you're not feeling like, oh man, it's
bullshit. I'm getting the Daredevil show. Like I can tell you this, I wasn't like, I paid
for Daredevil. Where's Daredevil? I got him and by the end it's like Matt Murdock is so fucking awesome. I don't need the suit to be like to enjoy the character.
And that's funny because like we talked about he only wears the suit in season two and like the Defenders miniseries.
The first season he's wearing the homemade suit, the third season he's wearing the homemade suit, so far in this he's like
I'm just Matt Murdock, that life is behind me, and I liked the
So far in this, he's like, I'm just Matt Murdock, that life is behind me. And I liked the similarities and the parallels between him and Wilson Fisk,
both being like, that life is behind me, I'm trying to move on.
And they meet up and they have a very heat inspired diner scene
where they're telling one another, if you act up, there's going to be consequences.
Oh, well, if you act up, there's going to be consequences.
They kind of go back and forth with it, but in a real serious way. And it felt like it had weight to it. Like the first time they were
on screen together in years was nice. And they did a good job of keeping them apart
in their MCU appearances too. They didn't have, you know, daredevils swing in and beat
up Kingpin during Echo. They really kept them apart. And once they got brought back together,
it's like people that were on Raw and SmackDown for years.
Now they're on the same brand and they're meeting face to face.
A lot of wrestling analogies that John Cena heel turn is poison my brain.
I love it.
All right, so then who is in the WWE, who is James Gandolfini's son?
Cuz that's just who he's gonna be every time he's here.
Listen, good casting for a like mover and shaker who's gonna...
who'd want to be the kingpin's right hand man and like new media kind of like that kind of dude.
I have to say, he had me believe it.
Yeah, he's a stat islander as he says too, which definitely plays out like...
Yeah, he's like, you don't need Manhattan, you got the island.
That was... I don't know who his comparison would be necessarily he he almost feels like he's gonna be like a manager for Kingpin
You know he I don't think he's gonna be joining any fights
But he's gonna be outside the ring fucking maybe throwing some salt in someone's eyes or something like that
He might be like I don't want to give him this credit already
But like a Bobby Heenan like a young Bobby He, or maybe like a Jim Cornet on the outside.
I liked his character. And there's, I think there's obviously a lot of parallels with
Mayor Fisk and Trump with the hats that they're wearing. Fisk can fix it and whatnot. I don't
think that's the most subtle thing in the world. And when he showed up and he knows
how to work with the tech and he knows how to get the younger audience I was like is he baron trump in this universe I don't know is he going
to start suggesting Fisk go on bussing with the boys I mean that would be funny if we saw some new
media shit like that probably yeah barstool you should do podcast mr fisk like something like
that and he goes on fucking bb erics. That's not out of the realm of possibility. Not not at all. I
think that's probably going to happen the way they've
established their relationship in the future. Yeah. Um and
then the other like thing I want to talk about the one
year later scene when you skip to one year later and he's
keeping the foggy. Do you call that a funeral card? I'm so
bad. I'm such a bad. I think it's a prayer card is what they call it,
but I'm not sure, yeah.
He keeps that with him everywhere he goes
before he leaves the house, he takes it with him,
puts it in his suit, and I thought that was so sweet.
Also the one year later when we see him
kind of putting on his tie and stuff,
I thought, it wasn't gonna be one year later,
I thought we were gonna get the funeral,
and that was really gonna break my heart,
because I thought we were gonna see maybe his mom,
his family who we've met in the show, his mom who is the
Penguin's mom. I think I mentioned that last week or if I didn't I texted you
and I forgot to mention it because I was like what the fuck multi versus collide
but you go one year later he's got the new practice with the lawyer that Foggy
was flirting with in the first scene. I forget her name already I'm so bad with
names but he's just trying to move on and he until he sees that Foggy was flirting with in the first scene. I forget her name already, I'm so bad with names.
But he's just trying to move on.
And until he sees that Fisk is running for mayor,
Fisk mentions a couple superheroes
in his State of the Union address
or his announcement that he's running for mayor,
including a guy who dresses up like a spider.
I saw someone have the 50 cent meme,
where they were like, why do you say fuck me?
Spider-Man watching that. I think in the comics when he becomes Mayor Fisk, the big storyline is
that he outlaws vigilantes and superheroes and that seems like where we're going here. They even
tease a white tiger and we see some like news footage of him. Episode two becomes way more
about the white tiger and rest in peace to the actor that portrayed him. Unfortunately, he passed in 2023. He had cancer, so, so sad, and they dedicated it to him.
But even watching the second episode,
he didn't seem old, he didn't seem sick.
It's just heartbreaking
that he couldn't see everyone loving his work.
But they do give him a huge role.
I think he's gonna be a big part of the season,
the White Tiger.
That's, yeah, tough break.
After I saw the, you know, in a big part of the season, the White Tiger. That's, yeah, tough break. After I saw the, you know,
in memoriam message before the season,
I was like, that doesn't feel good.
And then halfway through I said,
that guy looks like he could have a Spanish last name
like that, like I know it was Reyes.
So I looked it up halfway through and I was like,
oh man, that's a bummer.
So, I mean, they can always change stuff in Marvel
with characters and stuff.
God knows that, not the first time, right?
With Black Panther.
So they'll figure that out.
But the vigilante stuff, again,
I like feeling like I'm in the Marvel universe.
I don't need, you don't need to make these characters
operate on their own, especially the lesser ones.
Speaking of which, echo fuck this guy up.
Like, physically, emotionally, I mean,
I'm gonna shut him in the face. So. I didn't love that face. I
Didn't love all of that when they included the ancestors and the grandma was punching people at the powwow and all of that
But she did fuck him up because he talks about that with like Vanessa who's been running his business when he's like Yeah, I had to go off on my journey
Yeah, I had to relearn my how to become myself. It was a recovery process.
He talks like that.
It's fucking fantastic.
Vincent D'Onofrio and Charlie Cox are enough to just keep this show afloat.
Even like the old version of it, which supposedly didn't match the tone
and wasn't as good.
I can't imagine it was horrible with the two of them in the lead roles.
Yeah, it must have just been the tone and everything else, not them,
because they fucking they carry this show so far. Again, it must have just been the tone and everything else, not them, because they fucking,
they carry this show so far.
Again, you're not getting your typical superhero stuff,
they're the cool stuff in the costume.
You're getting cool action sequences,
but it's more so just the way these characters
interact with everyone else that I've just loved.
The diner scene, the diner scene was awesome too.
So good, so good.
And that was just like, even referencing the past
and showing us years of pasts. I
missed whatever diner was it that they used to go to. They were like, I missed whatever
on eighth and the feeling of Hell's Kitchen that you get because they actually shot in
Hell's Kitchen is palpable. Like the city feels real. Shout out Charlie Cox, by the
way, and shout out Liam Crowley, not the one that works at Barstool, but the one that works
at Screen Rant, because he got the exclusive that Charlie Cox was the one that came up with the idea in the opening
scene to have the heartbeat intersecting the fight scene and whatnot, and Daredevil hearing that.
Another thing worth noting, if you didn't watch the original series,
Daredevil has a pretty, pretty strong no-kill rule, like Batman. And he believes God should be the only one
to be able to take a life.
There's a lot of Catholic, Christian themes
and daredevil and whatnot.
And when he throws bullseye decks off the roof
in the first scene, that was like a, whoa.
Like it took my breath away because of how bluntly
and harshly it was just like a quick throw and then you hear
the body thud and then the eye opens and me and my fiance were pissed. Absolutely pissed.
We were like, you better not be alive. The eye opens. We're like, motherfucker. I mean,
you get this rule is I guess is good. But yeah, I think all things considered, he wouldn't
like that. He wouldn't mind having a body on his record that body in particular. So okay, good to know. Also very, and obviously this will only resonate with people who live there have lived
there and experienced it, but like very New York feel to everything. Even I'm an Astoria guy.
Everything. I was in Astoria for years and they say Sal, Chris and Charlie's, which is like
known for like incredible sandwiches. Like, oh, he's a good he knows his sandwiches I was like oh shit, so the the Hell's Kitchen feel to like some of these people came up in rough neighborhoods
I mean the place is named fucking Hell's Kitchen 80s Hell's Kitchen 70s or I guess you can say too
crazy fucking
Crazy, but I liked the thing too. I don't know I don't remember if it was in the first episode of the second
I think it was the first when he meets the lawyer and they're like set up here. He meets the therapist
They're set up where it's
She was told oh
He needs a therapist. He was told she needs a lawyer and then they have that back and forth
I thought that was really well done to where it was they were talking about Queens and oh you're from Queens
I could notice you're shortening your a's and O's you're making an effort. Don't mind
It's it's a blind thing like showing his supernatural abilities in such a coffee shop setting Oh, you're from Queens. I can notice you're shortening your A's and O's. You're making an effort. Don't mind it.
It's a blind thing.
Like showing his supernatural abilities
in such a coffee shop setting.
That was fun.
That's the other thing too.
So I'm getting used to now seeing his abilities
in the show and how they all work.
And it works.
It really does work.
One of those abilities is he's a ladies man too.
You get used to that. Cause this guy, oh my God.'s going to be batting them off himself. He can't,
he can't stop. He needs the Billy clubs to hold them back. And it's just a different
smoke too. You know what I mean? It's like fucking Seinfeld back in the day where Jerry
would have like all these people who become A-list actresses just as his girlfriend for
an episode. And Matt Murdock, man, the motherfucker motherfucker has the charm too Like it's not like he's just getting him here. Like how does he do this? Yeah. Yeah, he's got he's got the swag the swabs
They res do we still say ris? Oh, yeah. Yeah, I could be wrong about that. I don't know
Yeah, I got as one of the the tick-tock girls in Chicago
Then they would probably be like a Riz went out of style four years ago, dude
Damn
Anything else on the first episode before we get into the second more the white tiger kind of crooked cop episode
The only other note I have I don't remember what it was for
I think it might have actually been when we were in Brooklyn meeting with like tracksuit people and then
Wife came up and I said we got deep quick like there were some there were some
deep moments that we were getting especially obviously with Matt and uh the way he reacted
to the death again they they **** hit the ground running and they went I wouldn't say
zero to 100 they went like zero to 60 though it's like alright we're on the move now we're
ready to rock and when I was going with episode two I was like I don't think they're gonna
just like put their toe in the pool and then you go down
to your knees. But you know, everyone doesn't want to get down to their balls because that's
where it starts getting tough to get in the cold water. These guys just jump in and I
appreciate that. Yeah, they don't make you wait for Mayor Fisk at all either. This wasn't
like they were doing a season long election run. He's the mayor immediately. They're like,
he's the mayor. We teased it in Echo years ago or a year ago.
So we're getting right into it and I appreciated that as well. It was like alright, we're in the mix.
It's not like oh just wait. We're setting up for an amazing season two. They're like no, no, we're here now.
That's what the Penguin did. Yep. And we gotta do that now Marvel. You fucking you spend time giving us or just
yours or characters don't really care about her pride.'t really see him a lot of just keep it rolling
But King's been been enough stuff if you want to go back and get the slow-mo burn you go back and see it
Something that just hit me too. We have to mention the ending of episode one is the reveal that Kingpin knows about Adam
He's like on the rooftop with Vanessa and they have that awesome shot where Kingpin's looking down at daredevil
He's got the red lighting over his face
Kingpin's got the overhead shot that usually looks like a daredevil shot like the silhouette and then Vanessa joins him and he's like
By the way, Vanessa, I know about Adam. She's just like please don't kill him
And he's like, I'm not that man anymore, but it's like holy fuck. She's been cheating on Kingpin
You gotta have some cojones to cheat on this guy. Oh my god. Who's Adam Adams got the biggest cojones of them all
unknowingly unknown cojones
crazy
But I don't think he I don't think he kills King although he has the fucking bloody knuckles in the next episode
Yeah, and I was wondering about that immediately.
I was like, did he fucking kill Adam?
Is that Adam?
He showed those knuckles a few times.
They showed him a few times.
Is he punching walls because he, you know, is holding in his aggression
or is he just pretending to be a different, I don't know.
There's, there's a lot of Kingpin layers.
He's a big onion himself.
We'll get into that with episode two, right after we tell everyone about Turtle

Products this is from the heart
Of course. All right
Let's get into episode two now.
And I loved that they did back to back episodes
because for me, and I haven't been waiting,
you know, seven years since the show was canceled.
I've just been waiting the week since I finished the show
in a quick marathon binge.
I wanted as much Daredevil as I could get.
If they would have put out the whole season last night,
I might've stayed up throughout the night.
And the episodes flew by for me like they
were each an hour 45 50 minutes whatever it might have been I looked at the clock
realized it was almost over and was like oh no we're just getting into it what
the fuck Daredevil episode 2 focuses much more on the White Tiger story where
he we watched this guy who we don't know yet go down into subway tracks he's two
guys roughing up one guy.
He's like, no, no, no.
I ain't dealing with that.
And he goes and joins the fight right away.
They're like, this doesn't concern you.
He's like, you're beating up a defenseless guy.
It does concern me.
They get into a scuffle on the subway tracks so you know someone's getting pushed onto
these tracks at some point.
Unfortunately, the second someone does get pushed onto the tracks, one of the guys that was roughing up the victim, the other guy pulls a gun and says, NYPD, hands
up, they were undercover cops doing something wrong. They were crooked cops for sure. They
were dirty for sure. And now this guy's in a world of hurt where it's like, oh fuck,
I just killed a cop. They beat the shit out of him and the clink and I guess it's not the clink yet
But it's basically the clink when they're interrogating him and Matt Murdock overhears that takes on the case
And then we find out about his white tiger pass and everything. I really liked this as
well a singular storyline that
Does build to a season-long arc, But it did feel that like this episode was,
oh, it's the White Tiger episode,
almost in an animated series way.
But like I'm saying that in a compliment,
you know where if it were the Daredevil animated series,
this one would have the big White Tiger title card
and we would want this one on the VHS
that has the White Tiger cover.
Like I really enjoyed that about this.
And we didn't, it's not even like we saw
the White Tiger in action really.
We just saw the costume under his bed. Yes. And I didn't realize that until afterwards,
what exactly I was dealing with. I saw the amulet or whatever. I didn't know what was going on. And
then I did a little bit of research. This might, this is going to offend some people who hated the
show and some people will be fine with it. And again, I think we were pretty, had its good and
goods and bads. It felt a little bit like a She-Hulk episode. We're like, oh, we're going to do that this episode. Because Daredevil was in a few of
those, right? And it's like, oh, this is the case for today. And it has to do with Marvel.
And I like that. So it definitely like I would say this was better than even the best She-Hulk
episode. But structurally, it's the same. It's a courtroom show where the person has an alter ego is a superhero. And it's like, all right, that one's a comedy. This it's a courtroom show where the person that's an alter ego is a superhero and
it's like alright that one's a
comedy this one's a drama and
this one's an hour and that
one's a half an hour but when
you look at the bare bones of
them they're very similar and
that's like part of the reason
why we sort of enjoyed some of
the parts of She Hulk. There
were certain episodes that felt
like just courtroom drama you
know things like that that that
were good. Yeah, there was there was believe it or not,
guys, I'm telling you, I was there for all of it. There was
good. There was bad too. The Daredevil episode was good.
Like that whole episode is fun. When Daredevil comes in to
represent his client for uh because his client is a
superhero costume maker being sued for faulty practices
because the superhero costume didn't work like I enjoy that shit in the Marvel universe and I even enjoyed talking about this
mystical amulet that the white tiger wears in this. It felt like the original Daredevil series
definitely got crazy with like the hand resurrecting the electorate and shit like that. But for the
most part, it was grounded and bringing him into the MCU and having him talk about, well, he wasn't
wearing his mystical amulet
So you can't charge him for this crime and stuff like that. It feels like this is more of an MCU daredevil feels like oh you're
Transitioning you're crossing that as guardian bridge and now we're in a land where people are flying and yes
You're still only concerned about making Hell's Kitchen a safer place a better place
But there's also crazy
shit going on all around that we can't just ignore. Another thing that was ignored here that I'm very
curious about, what happened to these characters during the blip? Are we gonna get any blip stuff
during Daredevil? I know some people might be tired of that, but I want to know who survived,
who went away, did all of them survive, Did all of them go away? It almost feels easier
to say him and Karen and everyone they know either got snapped or didn't. But what would
happen if one of them did get snapped and one of them didn't? I'm very curious about
all of that.
Yeah, that's going to be I feel like there is a world I think also COVID had a point
part of it too, because I fucked up all the production and everything.
Man, the post blip story, there could have been a lot of fun shit, even if MC was more fleshed out, but whatever.
That's just the fucking what we were dealt, but I wouldn't mind that at all.
I, you know me, I geek out for all that stuff.
One thing I did love, however, it tickled kind of like with the blip stuff where it gets you like kind of interested.
So he's in the Kingpin's in the mayor's office, right? He's talking
about the desk. I'm going to go
down a little Fiorella,
LaGuardia. I'm going to, I was
going to do the Wikipedia. No,
no, no, Bob. I'm paying for
YouTube premium. I'm going to go
watch myself LaGuardia, you know,
1050. I'm sure there's like a
15 minute video, the best mayor,
the worst mayor, the best
whatever. Make you appreciate
the airport more. Yes, exactly. I flew out of the best mayor the worst mayor yes, whatever like you appreciate the airport more yes exactly I
Flew out of the airport for the first time in like 15 years
When I went to New Orleans a couple weeks ago
Because I had heard all the shit when it was the worst airport ever when I lived in Astoria
It's not like the best airport ever gets way better things been fixed and now going all the way to JFK
That is all the construction and the traffic and all the nonsense So now I am a little guardia guy when I fly
Yeah, that's it. That's a tip for non New York seat non New York
See New York City people if you're flying in much easier to fly into LaGuardia if you can get the flight like much quicker
Journey to the city. I think LaGuardia is a better airport all around. Yeah little LaGuardia glazing on the podcast
Well, I important on the my husband's I liked all of those mayor Fisk scenes in this episode
I like the scene where Bibi Yurik comes in and Michael Gandolfini is using his favor and he's like fuck
She wasn't supposed to ask about the the wife. I'm so sorry about that and he has the moment with his campaign manager
I guess where she's like, hey Vanessa's not really a part of this and the viewers don't love that.
And he's trying to keep it all inside.
You could tell he's just looking out the window and he's like, you just need to give us some
time if that's okay.
She's like, yep, totally okay.
Like she even gets it.
Like that's the other thing I was wondering how much does the public know about Kingpin
at this point, he's been to jail publicly and he spent time in prison and he's been publicly shanked in prison. Like, the public knows a lot about Kingpin
being a fucked up guy. I think that was part of the graffiti that we saw, where he's kind
of two faced and it's kind of cut down the middle. I liked the scene with the police
commissioner where he comes in ready to resign and he's anti Kingpin and he's like, you got
a bunch of cops that you're gonna need to be replacing soon.
He's eating that fucking cheese steak.
And you're like, why is he housing this cheese steak?
And he goes on that monologue about Philly
with the picture of the kid that nobody's supposed to know
about in front of him.
He's like, all right, I'll stay on.
Be careful what you wish for, classy New York City cop.
But that's fucking Kingpin.
We even got some good Kingpin scenes like that in Echo. Like, I know everyone didn't watch Echo,
but there was that scene that we loved where he's using a translator to talk to Maya or whatever. The second the translator walks out,
they've got the tarps down Dexter style. Boom, execution. Once he's done with the translator, you're done.
And he's cold-blooded like that. Maybe Maya's therapy changed him,
but something tells me by the end of the season, both him
and Matt are going to be back to the old me, Bugs Bunny style.
I just want to just do the Kingpin voice and hear the Kingpin voice.
That's all I can think of.
I'm doing this for the people at home right now.
I cannot do it, but I just, Vanessa.
The way he says Vanessa too, it just like he's worked on that line a lot.
He has it fucking perfect
It's there are certain people saying certain names that just hit so hard like yeah him saying Vanessa
Obviously, but the late great Carl Weathers saying man. No
Yeah, there's so many good ones. Yeah, I'm telling you if Walter waited anyway father than Skylar Skylar
I'm telling you if Walter waited any wife other than Skylar Skylar Skylar so good it all it all works So I I I don't know man. I I have to say this like I like Matt thing is I like Matt Murdock enough
I won't fall head over heels in love with the kingpin, but man and especially if I
Think Vin D'Onofrio might be a Mets fan
But Kingpin's a met fan as well in the at least you're right so it's fuck off. There's a New York City guy for sure. He's a New York City guy
So I think he might be a Mets so it's like I might just be going all in I'm fighting you with the Mon Zoto stuff
Like what I might just have to turn you on myself
And again, like he is basically shaped and looks exactly like so I have to those you think about man. He got elected
He's just like fuck the diet. We're going to Philly cheese steaks
But yeah, I like the
He's like you slimmed up you put on some muscle next episode
He's housing that cheese steak the biggest although he didn't like it and he references
I think it says Delas Andros outside the city something like that which I think is like a pretty deep cut
Which I think Philly people would appreciate the immediate genos. I was like, okay, they're going for the tourist location there. And I thought he
was gonna be like, that's not the one I prefer. I prefer the one across the street. Pats. Yeah,
I wanted an Angelo's shout out. Angelo's is the best. I was really worried he was just gonna go
straight up. Yeah. Is it D'Alessandro's? Is it D'Alessandro's? I'm looking for it. I think it's Das and Rose. Is it Delas and Rose? I'm looking at San Jose said, yeah. But yeah, I'm happy they
didn't just go with the basic bitch fucking Philly cheese
steaks. They want a little deeper cut there. And there's
that just let you know, like this guy's prepared. He will
click he fucks with his, his enemies, right? He could have
just shown the picture. Nope. He has the actual cheese stick and
he's housing it down. I think Matt said, your steps are, which was, yeah, you know, you have less weight on you.
But he's also teased he's getting much bigger by the end of this season. So maybe we're going to
see more scenes like that cheese steak scene. It'll be like Brad Pitt in Ocean's 11. Every time you
see him, he's eating something different. Kingpin's always going to have something different in this
mouth. He's like, I gotta, I gotta fuck with this guy. So go get me some you know
New Orleans I need a po boy I
Hope he does that hey this event when you're big guys like hey you can lose that weight But there's always that little fucking voice inside and hey he had his mayor diet and that's just fucking Adam
It's like yeah the diet who am I trying to impress?
fucking Adam it's like yeah fuck the diet who am I trying to impress if you if you don't like Kingpin you are fat shaming it that is a problem in 2025 so I think Kingpin is our hero like you
said like I'm not even a villain guy but he's he's hard not to like like his on-screen presence is so
good that you almost want him in every scene even though you want to save him have him be that
special attraction Brock Lesnar not in every scene, even though you wanna save him, have him be that special attraction, Brock Lesnar, not in every scene,
but like he's so goddamn good,
especially when he's on screen with someone like Vanessa
or someone like Matt, who he's got that built in history
with, that built in chemistry with, oh, so good.
And his scene with Bibi Yurik here,
like I like all the Bibi Yurik cut-ins.
That feels very comic book-y to me.
That feels like the beginning or end of an issue. You get a little update, a little what the city's feeling.
It gives the city a vibe.
The city feels like a character like it does in Spider-Man 2.
It's good. Really good stuff.
And even the aspect ratio changed, the way it looks different.
It's a cool way to cut the show up.
Yes, I'm with you on that.
And some of the stuff they're wearing is dated, but it's not too dated.
But it fits. It fits. And like some of the stuff they're wearing is dated, but it's not too dated, but it fits, it fits.
And it would be very much how you would present
what a New York City person getting interviewed
would look like in a comic book.
So everyone knows that they're talking to people
in New York City.
I want to believe Kingpin is good.
I want to believe he's really changed,
but I know it's not gonna happen.
Now there's a thing in Penguin, they're like,
listen, by the end of this, we're gonna make you hate him. was our boy our sweet our sweet lamb Vic. I feel like they're gonna
probably have to do the same here to be like bad guy very bad guy. Yeah I'm curious too by the end
of the season do they level up Kingpin in a way where he can be say in the next Spider-Man movie
a lot of people want to see something like that but But if he levels up to that level, can he be in Daredevil
born again season 2? Does he have to be in Daredevil
born again season 2? No, because he wasn't in season 2 of the original show.
But it feels weird without him maybe. I don't know.
I don't know where they can take it after this,
but I think I see big things in Dinafria's future in the MCU.
I'm not like his career's about to take off,
this young upstart actor.
But like in the overall context of the MCU,
we're going into this new phase of Fantastic Four
and X-Men and stuff.
He should be a part of that.
Don't kill him off, don't do anything rash like that.
I think he needs to be like one of the constant big bads.
He could be like the next phase is Loki
in the way that he constantly is popping up and causing trouble for our heroes.
I like that Loki as someone who's just always a thorn in the side. He may not be your doom
or whatever. I mean, shit, they had all these years they didn't develop the heroes very
well. So let's just start hitting with a couple of the villains. And let's be honest, like
by the end Thanos was the big swinging dick and there was a million awesome heroes at
that point we already had had but having Thanos around just
Felt good. I don't know how easy it's gonna be to get another Thanos
But if we get like kingpin and doom hits and then I mean we lost Kang so that's fucking off the table
Yeah, maybe the ex-con people are in the mix. I don't know. But yeah, I sinister bring him in
We've never seen him live-action. Yeah, and hey fuck if he's mayor and he has power and you know everything else
It's like you can make this guy a real problem for everyone
He crosses paths with so I'm with you do not fuck this up Marvel keep and I guess if you level him up, too
It's not like daredevil is not to be leveled up as well. He's gonna be in Avengers for sure
They gotta call him up and have daredevil alongside the rest of the Avengers. That'll be sweet to see
Yeah, and so you said it and I wasn't sure how it is. Is he definitely gonna be in a
part of Spider-Man? The next Spider-Man?
No, no, we don't know.
Definitely not.
We don't know.
It's not that he's definitely not. We're just, it's all up in the air. There's still people
saying it's gonna be some kind of multiversal story. Some people are saying it's gonna be
just Hell's Kitchen grounded. Some people are saying now it's gonna be him assembling
a team for Doomsday,
but that might be what Doomsday is about. I don't know. And that was another thing that,
I don't know how much we should talk about it because Marvel has been hitting DCMAs, DMCAs,
whatever they're called, copyright violations on everyone. There was a bunch of concept art that
leaked this past week for Doomsday and Secret Wars. Clem, the way it leaked was the concept artist
just threw it up on her portfolio when she was done with the Wars. Clem, the way it leaked was the concept artist just
threw it up on her portfolio when she was done with the art. It was like she put it up on her
own website. I'm like, oh my God, Kevin Feige might have her in a basement somewhere right now.
I saw someone tweet that mid afternoon. I saw Kevin Feige execute someone in the street with a
gun. And it might've been that late. And listen, that's a joke, Kevin Feige. Don't take the video
down. Don't take us off any lists or don't put us on any lists.
But I'll say this concept art can change a lot.
It doesn't mean a lot.
The concept art we saw made me very excited.
It had some fucking aura about it, especially anything with doom in it.
Mickey Mouse has killed people for less than what she did for sure.
And fuck, that's going to probably get us taken down as well.
I only, I saw the leak,
and this was like a day after everything had come out.
I said, you know, what could it have really been?
Cause I saw there was one picture of Doom
just sitting on a throne or something.
I was like, that didn't give away anything.
I clicked on this one image
and it had nothing to do with any kind of storyline.
But it had two characters next to each other
that I would never expect to see extra and I was like yep
Not gonna do that anymore. I was them on the couch. Yeah that one
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I was that freaked me the fuck out like what is going on?
I was like weird don't even want to know anymore
So that's what it was like it was the perfect way to say hey, bro
Stop fucking looking around don't get around if you don't want to spoiled. And I usually don't poke around for that kind of stuff.
I really love to go into things unspoiled,
like completely side note,
but I went into this movie, Companion,
I watched with Rachel.
I wouldn't recommend it to you.
It's like very scary horror thriller.
I wouldn't, I don't think it's a Clem favorite,
but I knew nothing about it going in.
And it has some crazy twists right off the bat
that I talked to Jeff D'Lo and Ken Checkman. I was like, did you see that coming? They were like, it was in and it has some crazy twists right off the bat that I talked to Jeff D Lowe and Ken check about
I was like, did you see that coming? They were like it was in all the trailers. It's like well fuck
I didn't see the trailers
but like I love going in blind like that and to go in blind, it's just I
Don't know I want to go in blind
But when there's concept art and you're telling me there there's possibility for you to see secret ores a couple years down the line
I'm also like I'll forget by then
It's a battle I go through in my mind though you saw I just went through it in my mind there
It's just like I want to see it though the party's also like I just want to make sure it's gonna be good, right?
Yeah, exactly
And the concept art some of it I was like that head or and then there was like the picture you saw is another picture where I was just like oh
I don't know what this is gonna be. Yes, exactly
This is fucking weird and I don't want to know because it could really pay off
But then going back to daredevil episode 2 they end the episode with this amazing scene
Where the victim who got away on the subway is the only one that could corroborate
the story and speak up about this. So Matt needs to get in touch with him. He realizes
through following the cop and listening to him that they've got his location and they're
going to fucking kill him because the cops know the same thing. This guy cannot be on
the stand. It's bad news for the NYPD then. So Daredevil gets there first, tells the guy,
go out the fire escape, and in a badass way
just opens the door and he's the one standing there for him.
And they know he's the lawyer at this point,
they've seen him in court, because they denied bail
and they've gone through all of this.
And we see one of them has a Punisher logo
tattooed on their wrist.
I believe this is also a storyline from the comics
where crooked cops were like
misusing the Punisher logo and it's like why are they claiming this thing all of a sudden
and maybe Punisher is going to have to come back and put him in their place. Fingers crossed
I hope so. But awesome scene where they're like you don't want to do this they get into
a big fight and Daredevil is kind of like no no you don't want to do this. It's no no
you're the puppet and they go back and forth huge fight scene
This was one of the things we saw in the trailer
He snaps the one guy's arm inside out all you see the blood just form on the shirt like it bleeds through the shirt
So badass and I loved seeing I got a bunch of tweets that said this last night
So metal it was an absolutely awesome way to end episode 2. Oh shit. He's got the metal concert behind them. Amazing.
Really, really badass way to end episode two. Kind of a more like it teases the season, I feel like more than the episode ending of episode one.
Maybe that's why they put out two at once because by the end of this, we've got Matt Murdock kicking ass.
Yeah, very, very exciting.
And then the way he like lets out that anguish scream, you know?
By the way, in the first episode, dude was a fucking pincushion.
He had like 18 knives in him.
I'm like, is this how Daredevil fucking rolls?
Holy shit.
And then he just beating the fuck out of you.
He takes a hell of a beating before he even fights back.
And then the way he just, are know are they both dead or is the
One guy dead or I was just in that he's got the no-kill rule
But in the end I was like those guys are dead right like they look already cracked
I'm dead he slams the one guy there was like a UFC knockout like that once he slams him like head first and
That would look like a neck crack for sure
Yeah, so yeah, maybe not once he slams him like head first. And that would look like a neck crack for sure.
Yeah, so yeah, I think maybe the scrim.
They put him in a position, what's he supposed to do?
I mean, it's like, I know you have a no kill rule,
but eventually self defense comes into play, right?
That's a factor.
No kill rule, also no kill.
Cops rule, even if they're dirty cops.
So it's a lot of shit adding up here.
But just the way he got the guy out, kind of like convinced him 10 20 seconds 10 seconds again.
Well, a well done first two episodes. I feel much better now than I did before last night and I felt pretty good going in based on the reviews.
But as we know, you cannot possibly rely on those as this. No, I mean, crapshoot, absolute crapshoot. But at least
these, honestly, I don't think I saw
a bad review. Like,
the worst review I saw, I think,
was someone being like, I like the original series
better, but I really thought this was great.
It was like, everyone was positive.
And through the first two episodes, like,
the first two episodes of this season
were better than the first two episodes of
like, say season two, I think.
Maybe even better than the first two of season three.
And that might be controversial for me to say, because people have sat with those seasons
for years and grew to love them, probably rewatched them in the years that have passed.
But watching them all back to back, I thought this was right up to the same quality, if
not better, than the original series.
It's like really right there.
It's just the original series had a lot more time to develop.
We only saw two hours last night.
And again, I'm not by no means someone
who's hooked to these ratings.
A lot of times, again, they kind of
are the opposite of how I feel.
But I'm looking around tomatoes right now so far this season.
84% in terms of critics, 95% audience, and then IMDB 9.3 out of 10.
So people are loving it so far, for sure.
And thank God.
Thank God they brought these characters back.
Thank God they did the creative overhaul.
Thank God.
Could that be the hashtag?
Is Daredevil's a religious character?
Yes.
Hashtag thank God.
I like that.
Thank God.
Because we needed a show like this in our lives.
Like you said, we needed a home run.
We got a home run with this,
at least through the first two episodes.
Knock on wood.
We don't want a secret invasion on our hands,
but I feel confident based on all the reviews.
We don't have one of those.
Next week, I already saw that they're filming season two
in Brooklyn.
I'm gonna try to get on the set.
I'm gonna see if I could friggin' bring a comic,
get it signed, something like that. I don't know. I'm going to see if I could friggin bring a comic, get it signed, something like that.
I don't know.
I'm just going to see if I could get videos for the channel.
I won't spoil anything if I see spoilers,
but I imagine they're not going to film anything crazy out
in the open.
I think I'm going to see Matt and Karen walking
down the street.
But that would be cool.
Boots on the ground, Bob.
I love it.
We need that.
We need that.
Exactly.
This guy's Sokana McGregor as he was
going to the court
Infamously like I love and I got to get like that for the nerd realm as well
You know I was able to inch my way into that with like Connor and Dana back in the day
How do I inch my way up with Kevin Feige and Charlie Cox?
How do I branch out and if you've noticed on the channel if the listeners have noticed I've been trying to do more of a
variety on the channel, if the listeners have noticed, I've been trying to do more of a variety on the channel this year than just My Mom's Basement once a week,
the podcast, maybe get it from the top rope,
maybe get a video game stream,
maybe get a reaction to something.
I've been trying to change some things up,
the 24 hour stream's gonna be a difference as well.
So hopefully people like that,
I would love feedback as well,
I would love to know what people wanna see from the channel,
that's not just the typical stuff we do, that's maybe out of the realm of what we do. I thought it was
fun doing the video with you at Alamo. Like when we go to the movies together and do a
video like that. For sure. By the way, I looked it up. Uh, Vince D'Onofrio is not a Metz.
There's no proof he's a Metz fan or Yankees fan. He played Steve Cohen in that, uh, dumb
money. Oh, that's right. And he, and he was very, I liked, I liked him as the role. So that's why he was good. Yeah. It was stuck in my brain along with obviously King Big the Yes! In the white suit? Oh, that would be fucking sick. Oh, no. Now I need him in the white pinstripe suit for the Yankees.
The battle for Vince D'Onofrio's soul.
You know what? We're gonna make a fucking play for Vince D'Onofrio this season.
You got Soto, we got D'Onofrio!
Alright. That was My Mom's Basement, Daredevil Born Again, episodes 1 and 2.
Great time. Hopefully next week is just as good. We'll be back next
week. We can also talk about Invincible. I know that's a Thursday thing. We want it to
be quick with this. Maybe next week we do a Thursday if it's not as time sensitive with
Daredevil so we can have a package deal and have everything in one episode.
Good call. Great. There's nothing else, right? It's just those two are the two big ones.
Just for this week. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, we're gonna have to, listen, programming, we'll
figure out for this. And then when it comes to last of us being out and
and or and all that there's a lot of shit to pack into the basement. I feel like like it's not like
we ate the vegetables first and now we get like the good entrees like we ate like garbage first
for a few years and I feel like we're getting some really good prime steak now coming up Yeah, the first like appetizer was like skeleton crew. We were like, oh
This is pretty good. And that was Star Wars though. So it was like, well, can they do entrees though?
Oh, we're starting to do entrees and you know what it was. It was like skeleton. It was like a kid show
It was almost like they had like peanut butter and jelly sliders. They're like, that's exactly
That's fucking good
they did a good job and now we might be getting some buckets and then the main
course could be Superman fantastic for Angela we're getting ahead of ourselves
listen I know ends we won by like a good 25 30 combined points first two games
I'm feeling good more than I could say for a lot of the time in the basement here at the end of
an episode.
Yeah.
All right.
That's the end of the episode for us rest in peace foggy Nelson.
We'll see you next week.
Thank God.
