Hey, My Mom's Basement listeners.

Hello, and welcome to My Mom's Basement and another Lantern's Edition of My Mom's Basement,
and a very special one.
I got to throw the very special in there because this was a very good episode.
It's called Bad Optics.
It's Robbie Fox and Clem.
Back again, as always, no guest this week, but next week I'll see if T-Bob's around for the
penultimate.
I feel like that's necessary.
I think we have to just make that known that we're going to try to get guests.
I've seen, we've seen the comments.
People want T-Bob.
If T-Bob's not available or in addition to T-Bob, they'd also like Jose.
We hear you guys.
We're down here every week with you guys.
People want guests in the basement and there's nothing wrong with that,
especially guests that know what they're talking about because there's a character in this episode
that I'm like, no clue.
And I'm not going to look it up because I'm going in T-Based.
TV show unknown, which is I think is a fair way to do it, because then I'm going to get spoilers
or I'm not going to know what I'm talking about.
So that is what the T-Bobbs and the Jose's are for.
So today you got the two idiots down in the basement.
We're going to rock and roll.
And then when things ramp up, which I think this is a fair episode for just those two to kind of,
you know, kick some shit around, we'll have the experts on the, what did you call him,
the something of the lantern core, the lantern correspondent.
The lantern correspondent.
Yeah, that was really good.
That was really good.
And he basically called himself that, and I just pointed it out.
I'm definitely not the kind of guy that's coming up with the creative names.
That is Jose.
That is T-Bob.
You know, leave that to the two of them, the two experts in the basement.
Before we talk about lanterns, I had a few things I wanted to mention.
Avengers Endgame Encore comes out this week, Thursday, Friday, I think maybe even in some places Wednesday.
It's projected to do really good numbers.
I think it's projected to do somewhere between 50 and 70,
million opening weekend. So suck it, James Cameron. We're coming back for that ass. I'm excited.
I'm not going to see it this weekend. I'm not that excited. I do have a busy weekend and I'm going
to see all-time low on Friday. So I'm going to see it on Tuesday with Chris Clemer, a man who has
never seen Infinity War or Endgame. He's going to watch Infinity War right beforehand. And then we're
going to go see it. And I have a little shirt that I'm going to wear that. It may or may not say IMAX fears
infinity vision.
So I am, like, I probably said on this exact podcast a million times.
Like, I need them to come out with Engy back in the theaters.
I'm going to watch it again.
I got to admit this one snuck up on me.
I saw a commercial and it said, like, guess you get the first preview of the last,
next part of Doomsday, I guess they're doing another trailers.
I don't know.
I saw the announcement that it's coming out.
I'm like, I don't know if this week's going to work.
Listen, without boring everyone to death, we are in parent, chauffeur, chauffeur, hell,
where we are just driving the kids.
Like, we are basically say, don't even say hello to each other,
and we're just driving the kids back and forth.
And it goes on basically every day of the week.
So I don't know if I'm going to get to see end game in the theater,
but I got to see it an infinity vision, right?
So I'm going to have to see infinity vision.
I'm going to have to do something drastic, either like tell AJ he can't go to football practice for a night
or like go during the workday and just say it's this is a work trip i don't know what to do i will
a long work trip three hour run time three hour two minutes or whatever now you know commitment
bused drive and i'm in the boonies that's like a four hour day right or your trip right there
however i i know i said i would i can't wait till england because we're going to stick it to camera
and i'm going to be first in line if i i promise and i know this is even more of a commitment
if they had just done the Infinity War into end game double feature,
because I think that would be such a cool experience,
I would 100% be in for that,
and I know it makes no sense with the timing,
but I just think that would be a different experience.
Is that crazy to say?
I don't think so.
I wonder how box office would work if they did that.
Do both movies get the credit for box office rising
if they're released as a double feature?
I don't really know.
The Terminate Cameron Movement,
if you're a longtime My Mom's Baseman listener,
that was a throwback.
That was like the first like 10 episodes of the show.
We were trying to terminate James Cameron.
Or was it even the first or was it the first time they re-released it a few months later?
I don't even remember.
It was very early on.
Definitely a 2019 campaign from us.
I also love the idea of, you know, when the Odyssey was out, I heard from a lot of people that were like,
I want to see it in 70 millimeter.
I'm kind of saving.
I'm not going to watch it until I can get tickets.
The idea that people would do that for Infinity Vision is so funny to me.
Like, I really want to see an Infinity Vision if I'm going to see it in any format.
But I'm excited for that.
They're scrolling in their like AMC movie thing and looking for the little Infinity Vision.
I'm not sure it's going to be playing.
And if they're calling the theater, is this an Infinity Vision?
Does that projector support Infinity Vision correctly?
This one, to be fair, I think you do get more footage with Infinity Vision.
I think it's being re-released with the extra scene or scenes in it.
And then if you see it in that format or the large screen format, whatever the hell they're calling it.
I think you get like a doomsday preview after the credits or something like that.
Okay.
And this is the thing, though, if I go and when you go and pretty much when everyone goes,
it's going to be a good ass time, man.
I was hammering that movie a lot during the pandemic, you know, those few years.
And I kind of realized I haven't really like, when I see portals, it's been a while.
So I think it would be a nice fresh feel if I go in to see it.
So I'm going to be, I'm questionable.
if we'll do football.
That's your thing.
It's football season.
So it's really hard to just get there.
I'm questionable.
Robbie's full go.
No red letter next to his name on the injury report.
This is my question, though.
I mean, any rational human would say,
Clemer is going to see it and he's going to love it.
But Clemer is just quirky enough where there's something that he might not like
about, like, Infinity War, that then blends in the end game.
And he's like, eh, it was all right.
And that's exactly what he's going to do.
That's going to make me so mad if he does that.
I really hope he doesn't do it because I like Clemer,
and I'm going to have to kick his ass if he starts, you know,
coming at him.
I don't want to do that.
That's what he's going to make that noise where he sounds like a creaky door
or he's like,
eh, he keeps saying he's a story guy.
He doesn't like team up movies because too many characters
doesn't allow for stories to be told.
He doesn't like the first Avengers movie.
He's never seen Aege of Ultron or any of the ones that come after that.
We said he's the only guy on Earth that's probably seen like internals,
but not Infinity War and Endgame,
just because he started this thing where he goes and sees every movie too late.
It's a weird thing with him where I'm worried that he's going to watch him and go,
eh, they're okay.
And it's like, no, they're not.
They're not okay.
They're amazing.
But we've been doing super critics and reviewing so many bad movies that I'm also like,
will this re-contextualized Marvel movies for him where he realizes like,
oh, wait, no, these are the best thing that the genre has to offer.
or not fucking, you know, mystery men and the phantom and the shadow.
We're watching like absolute dog shit over here.
Although this week, good episode coming out on Thursday for Unbreakable M. Night Shyamalan, Bruce Willis.
You know, the movie he made between Sixth Sense and Sons.
Very worth a watch if you've never seen it as a comic book fan.
I saw that.
It's a sneaky superhero movie.
Yep.
I saw that later in life.
Like, I didn't see it when it was even like freshly out on video.
I just was like, you know what?
Let me actually check this.
movie out and I was like wow I it's good it's interesting yeah samuel jackson he plays mr glass
he's really good in it I love later reprised the roles too like in 2016 or 2017 they brought him back
really I don't remember yeah they did a sneaky sequel so spoilers a little bit there's a james
mcavoy movie called split and it's an m night chanelon movie as well and at the end of that movie
Bruce willis's character from unbreakable appears like a post-credit scene and it's like nobody knew the
movies were even slightly connected.
And then they brought him back and did a movie called Glass.
Oh, shit.
Yeah.
Oh, sorry, Glass was the other one.
Man, I completely forgot about that.
I just love hearing your Klemmer impersonation.
Like, that sounds like someone who's done a lot of podcasts and they're starting to pick up on all
the little quirks of his co-host there.
So, Clemer, he doesn't realize it.
He's on the fucking clock.
And listen, I had a tweet.
I remember right before Infinity War when I was like, guys, I want to be excited for this
movie.
I couldn't fathom how they were going to actually pull it off,
which made it all that more impressive seeing them pull it off.
So I'm hoping Clemer can embrace that as well,
because I was kind of in the same modus in, I think, for Infinity War until, again,
knock my socks off.
And those are probably my two favorite Marvel movies ever.
And then Guardians 2 is 3.
Yeah.
Daredevil Born Again will conclude after season 3.
This news hit the timeline yesterday.
People started panicking.
saying, fuck you, Marvel.
This is the word.
How could you?
Screaming in the streets,
absolutely screaming at the clouds.
I said immediately,
I don't really mind this.
I love Daredevil Born Again.
I think I'm higher on the show than most people,
but we've had three seasons of Daredevil on Netflix,
a season of the Defenders that he's in,
three seasons now of Daredevil Born Again.
And then he's been in other shows.
I don't think this is going to be the last time we see these characters.
I think, obviously,
they'll be able to appear in other other movies, TV shows, whatever it may be.
I think Daredevil and Spider-Man is still going to be a thing one day.
But like, do we need more than seven seasons of Charlie Cox's Daredevil?
Again, as a guy who loves Charlie Cox's Daredevil, who loves this show,
who loves Wilson Fisk, Vincent Donofrio, like, I love all of this.
You're telling me we need eight seasons worth of this guy?
I don't know.
I think it's better to like come to an end than drag it on.
Now, what I am worried about is the showrunner has left during post-production.
That's worrisome.
I don't know what's going on there.
But the first season of it was fucking chaotic.
I'm born again.
It was chaotic.
I think it wound up pretty good.
When I saw the news, I said, all right, that's about time.
I also, I'm not connected to the Twitterverse as much as I used to be.
So I didn't see all the panic in the streets and smoke billowing and the red glow of flares.
For me, I was like, yeah, it's, it's, it's,
about time. Like the show, I don't think it's better than some of the DC shows we've been
talking about here. And like, it's kind of sad that like, I guess people want more of this.
And it's like, I'd like more of like the penguin or lanterns, preferably. So for me, I think,
and like the lawyer stuff is cool. I like the character, the person, Matt Murdoch, the daredevil stuff,
we don't really get a lot of. So it's like, okay, now those characters, they're fully built
They're in the toy chest, and now we can play with them in all these other shows and movies, right?
Yeah, and I know I'm sure Daredevil fans would say, like, they should do other villains and stuff,
but my mind also goes right to, like, how long are they going to let Kingpin and Daredevil fight?
At some level, like, you can't do Daredevil without Kingpin in my mind.
I mean, they have.
They've done seasons where he battles the hand or whatever.
But how many other Daredevil villains are out there where, again, you're going to keep this going,
It's going to be supernatural.
You do 18 seasons of it or something like that.
Like it's crazy.
So I think putting an end to it and then letting both of these characters go off into the world,
maybe you do a movie where it's Kingpin and Matt Murdoch in a Spider-Man movie.
I think everyone would be down for that.
A Spider-Man in Hell's Kitchen grounded, like let Destin Daniel Cretton direct it again.
That would be sweet.
We don't need more than eight seasons of any character, really.
I mean, if you could do the Sopranos and break it.
bad and six and seven seasons we can't be asking for more than that for a singular hero that's a fair
point listen simpsons is my favorite show of all time when it was in its prime even that had its
breaking point around that many seasons is where it starts to get a little funky and weird and again
daredevil very good show i like it could use my right lword here i don't think it hit the heights
of prime simpsons i don't think that's a hot no so i think we can just that we're the only
podcast that's ever made that comparison right like it's not prime simpsons i don't know
and then just three uh then they're gonna have 30 what i'd be 34 seasons of daredevil like i have
the simpsons it's like no i don't i know yeah like that's it sounds insane yeah and then i had just
three notes um one i've been playing the wolverine game a little bit the one that everyone's shitting on
all over twitter i did not know this game ever yeah so i got it i've played it for probably two hours
I think I put maybe two hours into it, so I'm pretty early into the game.
I think it's fun.
I'm not a crazy gamer.
I'm a novice gamer, I would say.
Play a couple games a year, and I play them on the easy difficulty, because I don't
got anyone to impress.
I'm playing this one on not the easiest, but the second easiest difficulty.
The combat is definitely a little repetitive, and it's not like the Spider-Man
Insomniac game.
It's nowhere near as good as that one, and I know the budget for this one was like double that.
But I'm having fun with it.
And I know people, some people are saying the story goes off the rails.
Right now, I think the story is kind of interesting.
It's like a world where the X-Men don't exist.
So Nathaniel Essex, aka Mr. Sinister, is putting together a team of mutants to help him out.
So like you're working for Nathaniel Essex as Wolverine.
You've got Sabretooth, you've got Mystique, and then Gene Gray, you're discovering.
I think it's kind of fun so far.
So if you're not a crazy big gamer, if you just like slicing and dice and as Wolverine,
It's got some crazy violent kills.
I would kind of give it a recommendation.
And I know it's hard to give a recommendation of like a 20-hour game on hour two.
I'm sure maybe by hour 18, I'll feel it got too repetitive.
I don't know.
I'm just saying I don't think it's as bad as the reviews are saying.
Yeah, and it did feel like this was catching one of those, everyone's doing the pig pile and just jumping on.
It just came around the time with obviously Sony had the no more physical media in 27, I think it's going to be.
or 20, I don't know when it is.
And then I know they had some sort of,
one of the, there was like a big game producer
that basically gave Sony to the middle finger.
So this was on top of that
where maybe the game was disappointing.
And it was like, well, let's just,
it was like Brandon Walker getting called out by Dave, right?
When Dave was going through all that,
and the thing stuff.
And Wolverine is the Brandon Walker in the scenario,
which again, it's a comparison.
I don't think anyone's ever made.
Brandon Walker and Wolverine,
you just made it live on the podcast right here.
So I, Bob,
what was it game?
fly right i learned game fly yeah yeah get on game fly yeah yeah yeah yeah you'll get it for like
maybe a week and a half by the time it actually gets you to you need to send it back so you don't get
charge for it but like that might be the move it may not be like you said spik yeah we go's on sale or something
and then like yeah but they got cool suits like being able to pick different suits and put them together
i think there's also one clip that's damaging it bad or it's like a wolver or it's a wolverine motorcycle chase
and if you don't touch the controller,
it'll eventually just like, you'll make it through the level.
Now, I think it's not a motorcycle game.
It's not a racing game.
It's like a 30-second portion of the game.
And people are saying it's so easy.
It's like a movie.
The first boss battle with Omega Red,
I'm on like the easiest difficulty.
I died 10 times.
So it's, I'm telling you, it's not like so easy that you could just,
it's a cakewalk.
You could just watch the cutscenes or whatever.
It's pretty hard.
playing on an easy difficulty, at least the boss battles are.
That's one of the most disappointed things about the latest Mario Card is I realized,
it's not even the latest one.
It's the one for the Switch, the regular Switch.
There is like the auto drive feature where it will just avoid the pits and whatever for you.
And I was one day I was playing with the kids and I'm like half paying attention.
I'm like, wait, I don't fall into pits right now.
And I was like, I turn on auto drive.
Games are just completely, let me give my little five second right of this.
I am so mad about games where it's like Mario Card has auto drive.
The default option for Madden is play moments only.
So anytime it's like third and six, that's the default option.
It should be offense and defense should be the default option.
It's fucking football people.
You got Madden, it's the big boy game.
It's not the fucking little sissy game where it's just having the moments.
And you can play offense, defense moments, do whatever you want.
You have to scroll down, in my humble opinion.
And Wolverine, you got to have, you got to have to be able to move the motorcycle,
even though it's not a motorcycle game.
My question is this, is the motorcycle, are you going forward in the motorcycle, or
is it coming at you like crash band and crew with the giant boulder no no no you're going forward and
you could move it you could and everything's fine it's just like you basically can't die like if you
don't touch it you'll just it's it's like having bumpers on and bowl it yeah just hit the bumpers until
you make it through the level that's tough that's tough but again i think i'm pretty much i think i was
on the record saying i feel like this game could get a little repetitive just because x-men games
the beauty of them was like having the choices and if I only chose Wolverine for the entire game
I think I would have like lost interest probably around the two hour more Bob I still got interest
now but I'll update the people as I make it further through the game next week maybe I'll be I'll
have a different tune I'll be like no fuck this game I'm over it two hours of 15 minutes you're
gonna just write in your little diary fuck this game so repetitive and boring and then the other
two notes that I had. I think Gorilla Grodd looks fucking hilarious. All of the pictures I'm
seeing on Twitter from the set of a guy in a big gorilla suit, he's wearing a graduation cap and everything.
I'm also just, I've been yearning for a show like American Vandal since I watched that show 10 years
ago now, whatever it must have been, where it's like a mockumentary in universe that has twists
and turns as good as making a murderer where you're like, what are you fucking kidding me?
And the Lucas Museum looks amazing.
That finally opened this week, I think, to the public.
They had the big grand opening, the picture of the directors that he got there.
It was like almost to that Air Force one level where you're like,
I don't think we should allow this many directors in the same room at the same time,
just in case something bad happened.
We would have lost all of Hollywood that night.
But man, I got to get out to L.A. to check that out.
And it seems like they went back on how much Star Wars stuff was going to be in there.
Like the original rollout, they were like, yeah, we'll have like the general grievous bike and maybe one thing from Nabu.
And then I think people were like, we want more Star Wars though.
So now that like there's a huge Star Wars exhibit with costumes, Luke's Landspeeder, in the library, they have like actual books that the wardrobe department from the movies had.
So there's like swatches of fabric that they were testing out for Padma's robes or Leah's robes and actual, you know, pieces that you could touch in it.
It looks awesome.
I need to get out there.
I was going to say, would you rather go there or Skywalker Ranch?
But that's not even a fair question.
Now this is my question that I've now reframed.
Is there anywhere in the world you would choose over Skywalker Ranch to visit?
Hmm.
That's a great question.
Yeah.
And I go back and forth because Skywalker Ranch has got to be so cool.
But are the archives there?
Or is it just, you know, like the ranch, people go to the ranch all the time to mix their movies, to do whatever.
I almost feel like the Lucasfilm archive.
I picture it as the room from the end of Fratist of the Lost Ark where they're putting the boxes back.
Yes, yes, yes.
Like I think that might be the coolest spot on earth.
Like the place with the actual props, maybe even ILM.
Like would they have them?
I don't know who has everything.
But whoever has everything, I want to see it.
Take Bob there.
So that's your answer, the archives.
Yeah, I want to see the miniatures.
I want to see the actual Death Star.
I want to see the actual, you know, X-wings that they built to be a foot long.
I want to see all that stuff for sure.
And you need George give you with his little career.
Oh, you know, actually.
And he's just explaining all the little.
I would love a George store.
And some people have posted, and I agree.
George Lucas has legitimately looked the exact same my entire life.
I was thinking the same thing.
I'm like, how old is this fucking?
He's crazy.
He hasn't aged at all.
My entire life, 28 years old.
He,
if you showed a picture of him today,
and in 1998,
I'm like,
yeah,
same guy,
same flannel.
Crazy.
All right,
let's get into lanterns
before we do.
Got to remind everyone
about draft kings.
The football season is heating up.
Every week feels bigger

The Crown is yours.
It's truly almost hard for me to talk about football right now with a straight face, because I just
can't believe how catastrophic the weekend was.
I mean, I went to the, I drove all the way to the city.
I got home at 1 a.m.
Just to watch Jackson Dark get injured on like the six play on a nandria.
I've never seen a quarterback hit.
And in the air collide knees with someone and the knee goes the other way.
And you're like, oh, so the game is done.
And then neighbors gets hurt, Andrew Thomas gets hurt and Brian Burns, who like,
you can literally make case.
Those are our four best and most important players.
And it was like James saw, or it was just a throw,
that's throwaway, a throwaway game ever.
And I didn't even have close to the worst weekend in the basement when it comes to football.
That's all you need to know, which then draft kings, I'm like, well, I can enjoy football in other ways.
Exactly.
or commander's season is over, I can move for my teams or my bets or my pants or my
whatever.
I bet on my Marcus Marriota overs.
Who do they have this week?
Oh, the Seahawks.
Very nice, Marcus.

Tough. All right. We're, you know, we're Lanterns people on Sundays.
Yes. We are. Letters. Throw your rings up.
All right. Lanterns, Episode 6, Bad Optics is the episode title. And this one
opens with the Stewart Brothers Architecture presentation. It's John Stewart and his brother Marcus
talking about these panic rooms. And I found this so interesting, so fascinating. I don't know if it's
been done before in the comics, but the idea of, hey, we don't want that to happen to us in Midway
City like it happened to Metropolis, something like what's happened to Superman. They mentioned Superman,
Metropolis. They talk about the events of that. Starro, they say a giant starfish. I love all of that
in universe stuff, but the idea of, we could foot a football stadium underground.
I guess they kind of did it with Fantastic Four with like the moleman was able to, I guess,
house the city and keep them safe.
But the idea of panic rooms underground for a superhero city I loved.
Yeah, we've always said like how the boys would always give you like the, this is what real
life would be like if superheroes and super villains more importantly existed.
and it was just another version of that.
And hearing him say the arc after hearing in Chad Powers
when she's talking about the arc,
and I'm like,
so that's what all you rich people are just robbing us for us,
because you know something that's happening.
You want to get on wherever this arc might be.
So yeah, these giant football field level things,
it was the Rick Dalton, Mimi here, Superman, here, Starro.
And you're like, again, this is something that's very cool,
now that we have James gone in charge in a direction,
and it does feel like world building
and we're able to reference other stuff.
So I was, I was swooning to start the episode.
Again, I have to admit,
I'm watching this in green color glasses.
I, they have a lot of figure right now.
Now, they did mention an arc,
and who's number one on the Suss list right now?
It's Noah.
You just, my fucking brain.
What's going on with that, Clem?
Because Noah, you almost think, if he's a manhunter, is he like the metaphorical arc for the manhunters to survive?
Like he's like, he could keep the bloodline going or something.
But now we're talking about an arc.
Are we trying to keep Noah safe with an arc?
Or are we trying to keep people safe from Noah with our arc?
Well, our boy, John, I sure hope he learned something as Bob is going into.
I don't want to say the wrong name here.
Sanchez, right?
Pepe Sylvia.
Pepo Silvia.
Pepo Silvia.
Pablo Sanchez, Pepe Sanchez, Pepe Silvia.
So that is a little bit of Dennis Robin when he's like, he went up and then down left
right.
I hope our boy John Stewart learned something from Hal here, because if that guy takes
that suss motherfucker and puts Noah on that arc or an arc somewhere where there's a
panic room and that motherfucker's a manhunter, problems.
Rob.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I'll say it.
You mentioned a panic room.
I think about that scene in the dark night when they're like, oh, thank God you have a panic room.
And then Bruce just goes in there alone.
I'll say it.
I'll get it out of the way.
Dark night reference.
Check the box.
Bernadette calls and says, Hal wants to apologize.
John Stewart's like, Hal wants to.
You're talking to Hal?
She's like, yeah, you know, he was lonely.
He was locked up for a long time.
He's locked up for 10 years, apparently, in between 2016 and in 2019.
And she said he's at the, at the, at the,
the diner in Rushville every night eats at the same place.
Crazy move to still be talking to Hal.
Also,
Bernadette is just,
I know she's just written to be this hateable character.
She's almost getting to the level of Lydia.
And like when the phone rings and I see Bernadette,
I'm like,
oh, come on.
Yeah, man, when your kids,
if your kids calling you by your first name,
you either have an absolutely horrendous relationship
or like a uniquely close relationship.
Yeah.
And there's no in between.
And we know which way our boy John has gone, unfortunately.
So hearing that.
Also,
I loved that his brother calling John chosen as like that was part of the name
they used to bust his balls.
I absolutely love that and the fact they brought it in later in the show.
But yeah, the fact burned it out, I'm like,
oh, I hate you.
I just,
uh,
I probably made the Mr.
Yuck face when she,
when I heard the name was,
um,
It kept the fuck out of here.
This episode is heavily benefited from episode three as well, the flashback episode,
where the dynamic between the brothers doesn't have to be explained.
And it's already there.
You kind of understand where they're coming from at the end when he calls, is it Isaac,
maybe his other brother, I think his name is, and he's in the studio and he's like,
you know, you got to get that.
He calls him chosen and he gets mad, don't call me that.
Like, all of that is already baked in.
to what these characters are,
and I felt like episode three helped that a lot.
Big time.
I saw people saying, like,
because, you know, there was an, I guess last episode,
or our last episode,
we were talking about episode three.
I liked episode three.
I wanted on the record.
I liked episode three.
I don't care about the people that didn't like it.
I was said, I said it when we were on with Teabobob.
I was like, I enjoyed it.
I understand there's people.
I understand the criticisms of it, for sure.
But I liked it, and I do think it has paid dividends with the Berdinette stuff, with the chosen stuff, right?
And even the dad that we saw, remember where our thoughts were with the dad in episode one?
And then three complete.
We were like, this guy's a fucking monster.
The only thing in this show, the only thing in this show that has not been turned on its head is that no is a suss motherfucker.
And I was on that island by myself.
You were. If you guys came with me, you came onto my arc.
And I told you that guy know it's a false profit, then fine.
You guys are on a do.
But no one else believed everyone else, and they're going to turn this shit on its head
because they think we don't see that suss motherfucker coming.
That guy has a noodle arm and he's going to put a quarterback for a Nebraska high school,
even in a town of a thousand people.
No fucking way.
Yeah, he's trying to make his decision.
People are like, oh, have you decided everyone?
The whole town's focused on this fucking noodle arm.
No, no, no.
And again, I liked episode three a lot.
It's my least favorite of all of the episodes so far.
This is a show that I'm loving, though.
I like every episode of this show so far.
It's only my least favorite because we get the least amount of time with Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler.
Like that's the show for me.
That's the dynamic for me.
And speaking of that dynamic, John Stewart arrives.
He goes back to Rushville.
And it feels like we're back.
Like it gave me that true detective vibe of like when they catch up with the current timeline.
And this is the one thing that's haunted you for years later on in the year.
episode. His brother tells him, I feel like you haven't left Rushville for 10 years. Like,
it's been on his mind the whole time. And they sit down across from each other. And he's like,
where's my apology? Let's get the show on the road. He's like, what fucking apology, Jr.? He's not
giving him the apology. They get a guy Gardner mention. We talk about that gym teacher that has the
ring now. We get a bat guy mention. He's ripping off that bat guy over in Gotham. And like my face,
I went so Rick Dalton in that that my fiance laughed at me.
Like she looked over and my jaw was on the floor and I was just like,
the bad guy.
And she's like, oh my God, this fucking nerd with the bad guy.
And Hal basically gets John Stewart to punch him in the face by pushing all his buttons.
Now, some people are saying he did this on purpose.
Some people are saying he was just kind of being an asshole.
Like I don't know what the benefit of getting him to punch him in the face would be.
once he does it he pretty much begs and pleads john to not tell anyone that he's there that he
visited interesting scene very good acting between the two of them i don't know what the motivations on
house side were completely like maybe he was trying to get him to punch him i didn't read it that way
at first it only after the episode hit me when people were pointing that out that that could have
been a possibility you know i didn't i didn't think of that either but he really was
dialing it up to an 11.
Yeah.
You know, for sure.
And he was getting into the personal stuff.
And yeah, you know.
Kind of like you did in episode one with the guys that he was trying to get beat up by to get thrown at the prison.
That's a great call, Bob.
Bob, I'm giving it to you.
There's a thread here.
I will help you pull the thread.
I don't know where it's going to take us.
But my boy, Hal, there was a method.
There was a method to his madness.
And even 10 years later, which by the way, Russ,
uh,
whatever the fuck this place is, I always get the name confused.
It has that like stank of 10 years without our alien overlord who made everything better
for us, right?
Like these people are just sad.
It's just shitty there.
Everyone who could leave has already left.
So you don't have good people there.
It's just the fucking loser townies.
Uh, it was,
it was a tough spot.
And our boy, Hal, gang cracked.
I don't like seeing my lanterns fight too.
That's the other thing.
I really like when Hal O'Gram comes on and he's smile and Adam and he likes John.
And I guess it's what we're going to probably get from moving forward.
The way you said it made him sound Irish.
Hall O'Gram.
Hall O'Grame.
And Terry calls John a little later on, obviously, it's snowy and everything.
And we flash forward to the end of episode one where Hal is already dead.
he's sitting there at the football field frozen and carry starts telling john like everyone hated hal i'm
sorry i called you but you're the only one who would even care that he's dead and he's like why did he come
back she says he came back from me they started sending each other letters when he was in prison
she split from her husband her husband billy um three years prior to 2026 uh and she says hal just
felt so bad basically about what happened that he just wanted to help him
out wherever he could. He was going door to door asking people how he could help out.
Pretty sad. And he's like, all right, you know, I'll stick around for a little bit.
I'll go back to the motel. She's like, brother, the motel was destroyed 10 years ago.
Nobody rebuilt the year. She's like, what are you talking about motel?
So she gives him the keys to Hal's apartment, which I noted on Twitter. When he gets in there,
Hal is now canonically the owner of a live, laugh, love son. Amazing.
Yeah, no one with a live, laugh, love son.
can actually be a bad person.
That is like instant suss list.
Like, that's like getting a star.
The suss list cannot hurt you because you have,
it's just a fact.
If you could buy it,
but you'll never make it in your house if you're a bad person.
You have to be a good person to get it.
That's probably how we got the ring to be honest with you.
You probably on one of those.
You're worthy.
You're worthy of it now.
I was reading theories on the,
uh,
murder scene or whatever you want to call it.
And there's two camps.
One, did Noah shoot Hal?
Hal finds out Noah has something manhuntery about him and kills him.
Or two, does Hal know Noah has these issues with being a manhunter or whatever might be involved, some suss stuff about him.
And Kerry shot him.
Oh, I didn't even consider the second one, to be honest.
I'm still Noah right now, but.
Yeah, there's also like, is Noah actually a good guy?
There's something in my mind where I'm like, he's half Manhunter probably based on most theories, I think.
Does that mean he's not a Manhunter that shows the body and displaying himself as like a little boy?
He is, I think, a little boy who just had Manhunter blood on him because they don't pick the elites.
And so people are also saying, sure, you picked a little boy.
kid, but like star quarterback is not quite like facing adversity in a neutral arm quarterback.
Literally, yeah, the whole town is focused on you and loving you.
I don't know.
I didn't consider that Kerry could have done it, but that certainly, that'd be heartbreaking.
That it almost injects that Linda Lough like keep you on your toes energy or you can't feel
too safe with anyone.
That's interesting.
I don't know which one of it is.
I've been sitting with my
with fingers against my purse lips.
This is how I watch the show.
I'm like, I don't know who I can trust
here. And it's like, I don't,
I just realized too, I was like, wait a second.
She is the girl that says,
Mr. Thompson in all of fucking
boardwalk empire. She constantly
said, and I like fell in love with
that woman. And she, I believe, gets kind of like
for her kid as well,
she gets kind of like Mama Bear will
fucking, you know, do what has to be done.
And I'm like, shit, this is a pretty,
be like she fits that role.
She's a badass bitch from,
she's from Gotha. She's from Gotham.
So, and obviously
she's seen some shit go down.
She was in with those mob guys or whatever.
She probably
used to have a nose ring.
Used to have a nose ring. I'll tell you.
My wife actually
talking about getting a nose ring recent. I'm like,
you? Really?
Nose ring and a tat.
And I'm like, that's one thing for the kids.
She wants to get the kids.
but nos ring i was like you might have throw your ass on the suss list next up yeah nose ring means you
she moved in a goth business you might be moving to gophe she might be moving to goffin and then he goes
to hal's apartment he reunites with earl the plant nice little callback to episode one or two it was
i think um might have been episode one he's got a shotgun rigged at the door almost like home alone
style ready to go off carry tells me like whatever you do please just go on the fucking back door and she's
like Jesus hell.
And Marcus calls John at the same time, and he's talking about this meeting with the colonel.
And he's like, hey, we're on with the fucking colonel.
You're going to get back here.
And this is where you start to see, even though, yes, he went and started an architecture
business with his brother, his mind is still on Rushville and has been on Rushville to the level
where his brothers are like, you got to be kidding me with this, bro.
Like, I thought we moved on here.
I thought that was all good.
And then Gary also invites John Stewart to the autopsy.
And I love the scene where she's basically like, I can't, you got to be a deputy.
And he's like, all right, deputize me.
You're a deputy.
And it's like, when I see that, I'm like, I'm sorry for throwing on the socialist, Carrie.
But she, I think she's mama bear.
I think that's a special.
She's really likable.
And maybe that's why they cast someone so likable.
And, you know, even they do the twist last week where it's like she's known the whole time that Zoe's the Manhunter.
And she's traded something where she owes her like a life debt.
basically. But if they do another twist on our head with the same person, oh, that'd be good.
And like you keep thinking the miracle is, you know, someone's saving you at a diner with two guys
ready to kill you. The miracle was the child. We're going down a dark path, Bob. I have to
at least acknowledge it. If no is just some poor noodle arm kid that we've been slandering,
he's just some innocent kid in the end, I'm going to feel really bad, really bad. But nonetheless,
less.
Yeah.
And then,
did you mention the autopsy part?
I said you were going there, right?
Yeah.
So they say it was a nine millimeter weapon.
The coroner fucking hates the lanterns,
like fucking major shit.
She said,
I don't care if we flush him down the toilet
like he's a fucking gold fish.
Goldfish.
That I didn't like about our sweet, sweet Hal.
And they get the keys to the fortress of storage.
Really got a laugh out of me that Hal's like cheeky enough
to have the fortress of storage written on his keys.
And they go there, they try to play a voicemail that he sent to carry,
which I could tell right away that it was going to be, you know,
a mushy voicemail that was not going to work.
It was all for nothing.
He's calling her Buttercup.
He's like, I feel like Buttercup.
That's better than honey.
That's better than he.
You know, when he talks, he reminds me a little bit of Gruden.
Like there's something about Howell's voice.
Maybe it's just the high school football coach in him.
Exactly.
But that does not work.
They're like, no, you know, voice not detected.
do not try again.
Will the Hallogram work?
That's a great question.
I was trying to figure it because I was like,
when they did the voicemail,
I was like, well, this is silly.
You just said, oh, we're going to go on YouTube.
He has some private interviews.
We have the literal interview that he saw with him as a kid
that Jonathan, the John saw with him as a kid.
But I did like getting my,
a little more, my Kyle Chandler peeked behind the curtain.
Build me a Buttercup, too.
For like one of those like oldies kind of songs,
that's maybe, I don't know if I can put it
S tier, it's either S tier or A tier for me.
I have it that high.
Yeah, really good.
What do you think of when you hear the song
Build Me Up Buttercup?
Is there anything you think of?
Because there's one correct answer.
No, not really.
Not right away.
It's the post-credit scene from...
From a Guardians?
Me, myself, and Irene.
Oh, which we just watched.
Oh, no, no, no.
Sorry, no, no.
It's the post-credit scene from there's something about Mary.
I'm with all the people and they're going around.
I think I saw something about Mary when I was way too young to watch it at Grandma Fox's house.
And I don't know if I've seen it since.
So that doesn't come right to mind.
Oh, my God, Bob.
I'm pretty sure Grandma Fox showed it to me.
And it was like, I think even as a kid, I was looking at my grandma, like, grandma, I shouldn't be watching this.
Bob, I thought, and me, myself and Irene, we watched, we talked about something about Mary.
And you had recently seen it.
this is we've just witnessed another live homework assignment on the pod okay i need you to rewatch
there's something about mary and there is a post credit scene and that post credit scene has billed me
a buttercup that's all i'm going to say to you and we're going to reconvene here maybe not next week
because if we have t-bobb or jose in the basement i don't want to have to throw something about mary
was revealing an ultimate or finale post lanterns yes but by your wedding day i need to talk
Okay.
Something about Mary.
Because I'll tell you, it holds up just as good as it did back in 1994, whatever.
It came out when Cameron Diaz was throwing 90.
I know that the hair, it's like stuck up hair.
Oh, yeah, Bob.
Yeah, Bob.
Yeah, Bob.
I remember that.
Talk like someone from Fargo here.
And to all the listeners, if you've seen it, watch it again.
If you've never seen it, throw in the must watch tag on it.
It is one of the best comedies of all time, period.
exclamation point, whatever you want.
My other question here,
what is your buttercup
word for Lady Fox?
Do you guys have a buttercup word for her?
Not really.
What do they? Would they say that a pet name?
We don't really...
I'm Babe.
I call it Babe.
I call my wife Babe.
Yeah.
Pretty much that's her name.
It's that, if anything.
But I feel like that's standard.
I think that's everyone.
But that's fine.
I think buttercup is straight.
Like sweetheart or like honey,
Like that feels more like, I never like, honey, I'm home.
I think that's also a Midwest versus East Coast thing where I think down south, honey is probably there, babe.
Whereas Buttercup could be a Midwest thing.
I think Howe's also just trying to, you know, How's a little bit of a charmer.
He likes to mix it up a little bit.
So I personally don't think I've used anything except Babe ever.
Yeah, babe's my go to.
And I think anything else I say feels weird.
If I called her honey or sweetheart, right?
Yeah.
but I didn't know if there was
Maybe I'll try out
Buttercup today
See how that works
I need the live reaction
That we can bring next spot to see
Only she watched it with me
Now that I think about it
She'll be like oh you're doing that
Yeah
You're a fucking nerd
By the way
Like you said
Check off ball
You know that's coming back
I don't know what's inside of it
It's gonna be cool as shit
I heard someone say
Sinestro might be inside of it
sure she's just sitting there
he's like genie from
Aladdin when he gets out of the fucking
box he so what if it's Hew from Breaking Bad
remember people were like whatever happened to
huel
across
across franchise
cross channel
I mean HBO and Andy right
oh my god or was the AMCA
oh speaking of HBO
I didn't realize this so I rewatched
episode five right before
I watched episode six because lady
Fox hadn't seen it she was on a work trip
So I was like, all right, we could watch episode eight, roll right into the episode or, you know, we'll watch an episode at eight, roll right into the episode at nine.
She's like, great.
That's awesome.
At the end of the episode, when the motel is demolished and there's like half the sign there, I didn't notice it says we have HBO.
Like it has one of the sounds like, color TV, HBO.
And I was like, oh, that's a clever little nod.
Like they had a nod to Harry Potter because they own the rights to that.
And then they're nodding to their own streaming service basically with HBO.
I thought that was clever.
That was a big deal back in the 90s.
Like it was like, all right, we're going to a place that has HBO.
There might be like, you know, if the parents are sleeping, I can maybe sneak in some,
some, you know, rated R or P or NC17 stuff.
And I've been looking for, you ever see this as like RCA color TV?
That's like an old motel.
I've been looking for one of those signs.
They go for like a thousand dollars.
I'm like, I cannot spend it.
Oh, really?
It's very rare you get like an authentic, like they took it off a motel kind of a thing.
But you can get like a size.
sign for like 20 bucks i'm like no i need real deal each letter is a different color you know it's
color in different letters but the hbl one one is kind of the one b in my mind it's like one a we have
color and we have hb oh there's a couple of those signs still in seaside heights maybe we could plan
a heist one of these nights you and me show up in the middle of the night ski masks on and just steal one of
those signs i'm in you know what i know he's a jersey shore guy let's get jeff de low involved
because he's an oceans guy yeah he could be a he's a he'll be the guy in the
suit. He can plan it.
You know, like he'll have our laminated sheets of what minute we're supposed to do which part of the
heist.
John Stewart eats meat now. How about that?
She's like, hey, I'm making a meat loaf later.
And she's like, ah, fuck, you don't eat me.
He's like, actually, I do now.
It's been 10 years. He's, he's over that.
He's, you know, put his parents in the past.
Put Bernadette in the past.
He doesn't have to worry about the cheeseburger PTSD anymore.
I like that.
At the risk of going long here, I have to ask.
Does Mama Fox, A, make a mean meatloaf, or B, what is her signature dish?
Their signature dish would probably be more something, you know, Italian, spaghetti and crabs was always a glass.
And that's not like a, you can't make that every night.
But that's like when we went to the shore, we would go crabbing, we'd get the crab.
She'd make the Sunday sauce.
Oh, so good.
She does make a meatloaf.
I was never a big meatloaf person, to be honest.
Me either.
I think I almost like, I think she stopped making the meatloaf eventually because it was like,
I don't know, we're not meatloaf people, mom.
Yep.
And my parents made it.
Never was a hit.
They'd be, oh, it's just a giant meatball.
It's just a giant hamburger.
And all the kids are like, nope.
And then my wife tried to make it.
And my kids are like, nope.
It's just some, it's the name partially.
You can agree the name is bad.
Yeah.
And you got to load it and ketchup.
Yeah, exactly.
You know, so many other ways to eat beef.
that way I just think
and like this day and age
you're spending like a $100,000 for a meatloaf.
Like it's not even worth your wallet.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Or your wallet basically.
So John suggests that they bury Hal.
He's like we should give Hal a proper burial.
The place calls about his dad
and they want to put his dad on.
He refuses to talk to his dad.
And while he's in the store on the phone,
he spots the Guy Gardner ad.
And talk about something I'd like for the basement.
I want one of those guy Gardner displays
of his fucking energy.
drink, whatever that was.
Really funny.
And then he gets run up on by Billy and company.
When he sees the guy Gardner out, it gives him the idea to go put the lantern on,
the lantern signal.
And when he does that, Billy and his boys run up on John Stewart.
And they're like, turn that fucking lantern off.
We hate lanterns here.
And they think that they're going to attack John Stewart, I guess, like, Hal got attacked
in the first episode.
No, no, no.
Not John Stewart.
He fucks them up and doesn't break a sweat.
To the point where he can literally go to dinner afterwards.
And there's no question of like, whoa, you're out of breath.
Whoa, you have a scratch on your face.
Like, what happened?
He just has a normal dinner with Noah and Kerry.
Noah seems like a fine young lad.
You know, he wants to be president.
Suss.
You want to be president?
You want to control the entire country?
Suss.
And then she gets a phone call.
She's on the phone.
And the way she looks at him while she's on the phone is.
so good. She's like, okay, I'll be right there.
And she has to put him in jail because
he fucked up her ex-husband.
She's like, did you just get into a fight with my ex-husband?
Really good. What a question.
I have to ask someone at the dinner table
after you made your specialty meatloaf.
I have to, I have to say,
I now, I watched that scene knowing it was
John Ritter's son. And I'm just saying
it's like John Ritter now
doing the true lies
character of Bill
Hxton, Pullman? I always get them
Fused.
Whichever one does the bill,
the true lies,
Jamie Lee Curtis,
you know,
mischiefs or whatever you want to call it.
It was just,
I love his look.
The,
yeah,
Ritter Paxton combo,
whatever it is,
just seeing him,
he's the perfect ex-husband.
Also,
what kind of small town is this
that they didn't like,
just basically destroy that fucking light?
And I know it probably is,
true.
It's got graffiti on it,
but yeah.
Yeah.
If you really like,
he took an axe to it,
much,
yeah.
in a dark night.
Exactly.
And we were all thinking the same thing when we saw.
I was like,
oh,
I love him.
We just straight up stole that for Batman.
Very cool.
And I think they might have shown it in that like a preview,
I think,
for last week or something.
There was a picture of it before the episode.
And I remember thinking like,
wait a minute.
He just has a lantern.
Like, are they going to acknowledge
that that's Batman's thing?
Right away.
Literally before you even see the lantern in the episode,
they're like,
it's a fucking rip off.
And it does work perfect for a guy Gardner,
who at this point joins the episode.
John Stewart calls his brother Marcus for bail money,
and then Guy Gardner arrives.
And even the way they shoot him walking in,
he's putting on this superhero persona.
And he says the first time I met Hal was in prison too.
You know,
had to talk to him on Oa or whatever.
And Hal told him to go climb a rope.
No,
or, excuse me, athletic director.
Yes.
And just I could picture like,
Chal Chandler is saying, go climb a rope.
And John Stewart tells Guy I wanted Barry Hal in his uniform and his ring.
There's little talk about the ring.
Oh, the rings are decommissioned after a lantern is done.
And now Guy has a different ring, which is kind of weird.
I don't know if that was just because they wanted a certain ring for the show.
And he already had a different one in Superman.
Because in the comics, I don't believe that happens.
I think the ring just is the ring and it gets passed down from Langer.
the lantern or maybe they just needed it for the sake of this show digging him up being able to use it
whatever and i loved the line where he's like why would i do that for you and john stewart says
everything you have is because i turned it down and that's guy gardner to a t right there and that's
why he got the ring so he does pretty much agree he doesn't like agree agree but you get the
vibe that he's going to go to Ola and take that ring from the Guardians or whatever.
Because deep down, guy is kind of a good guy.
You see that Superman when he shows up for the people.
Like he's an asshole.
He's a douchebag.
But he kind of is a good guy.
And that's why he got the ring as well.
That's the thing.
I saw him on screen.
I'm like, yeah.
And going into it, I said, I really feel like I enjoy Guy Gardner.
And I'm interested to see how he is in this show.
And I'm like, yeah, he does it for me.
And it's like he has the stupid haircut.
He's a goddamn prick, but he just works.
And I think it's, I look forward to like more of these quirky characters that just work in the James Young universe, right?
It's another great casting.
Like, it's not Kyle Chandler level likable, but Nathan Filion is really likable.
And I think it's very cool how all three green lanterns can be likable and be completely different.
Yeah.
Core, right?
All three of these guys, which by the way.
Likeable, but all like kind of hard.
asses are jerks.
Yeah, exactly.
You kind of like,
kind of fuck these guys,
but I roll with them.
Yeah.
Which makes,
I like characters like that.
It makes you like
the Guardian's characters,
right?
And I think that,
that's just very cool.
By the way,
I was saying,
John,
that,
I feel like he had
that exact fight sequence
in Rebel Ridge,
like three different times.
Oh,
absolutely.
That was the most Rebel Ridge
he got.
For sure.
Um,
very quick detour here.
I was telling my dad about Furious.
I heard it's a great show.
I know you watched it.
You loved it.
He was talking about Furious,
the movie.
Have you heard about this movie?
It's a martial arts movie from this year, yeah.
And he said,
that's incredible.
And I was thinking of the,
he's saying the choreography is out of this world
and like the storylines
or it's good versus evil.
And then it's kind of,
there's some like gray areas.
He's like,
you have to see it.
And I was like,
I bet Robbie Price at least heard of this.
So we did a video with one of the stars of it.
We did a martial arts video this year.
Remember that where KFC actually hurt his shoulder,
like,
And part of the choreography, again, he heard us, we told it.
Be careful with the shoulder.
He hurt his fucking shoulder again.
But that was with, I think his name is Joe Tasm, and he's one of the stars of Furious.
And most of the team from Furious, the movie, is the team from The Raid, which are absolutely
legendary action movies that went on to really inspire, like, the style of action, the John
Wick's style of action almost that we have today.
And for the nerds in the basement, they were also the cast of the.
the raid in the Force Awakens when they say tell that to Kanja Club and then on turns and sees people
walk in they played Kanja Club jjabrums was such a fan of those movies that he's like i just want
to put the whole cast in the force awakens so they got to play kanja club that's awesome that's
a little full circle nerd basement talk but yeah i haven't seen furious yet the movie i've heard the
movie's amazing it's one of ken jack's favorite movies of the year really yeah so i'm going to throw
that at the top of the list and i heard it i heard it's a good
credible. So yeah, shout it to our boy John for just kicking ass there.
And Guy also mentions someone has busted Sinestro out of Spazcaban.
What is Spazcaban? It is Ascaban in space.
Kind of like that. Spasgaban. That's funny.
John Stewart has 100 missed calls when he gets out.
And they're from Comfort Cove where his dad is. They're from Marcus. They're from
Burnett. And he calls his brother Aaron, who's in the studio.
they get into a little bit.
He kind of has to yell at his brother, Aaron, not Isaac.
I don't know where Isaac came from.
His name's Aaron.
And then when he gets back to Hal's place, Maggie is waiting for him.
Maggie was at the diner when he went and met up with Hal.
And she immediately is like, oh, I saw you meet up with Hal if you want me to stay quiet.
And she is, she kind of reveals herself as the little girl from the end of last week where he gave the watch to
If you want me to stay quiet, I want $314 and $527.14.
Like she has this exact thing.
And then she has this line where she's like, oh, people here, we're not racist at all.
I just want reparations.
And it's like, oh my God, Maggie.
Maggie, you can't be saying that in front of, like the most tone-deaf thing I could ever imagine Maggie saying in that moment.
Maggie, fuck her.
I'm out on Maggie.
I was going to slap her on the suss list,
but it's not even, it's like the fucklist.
I get the fuck out of here, Maggie.
I'm hand-waving her, the old princess.
Hand-wave.
Exactly.
The reparations line was crazy
after saying she wasn't racist.
Why?
Just reckless move.
Also, when she was sitting at the diner
when he first arrived,
I thought it was Ruth from Ozark,
who I know you don't know.
She had the hair, yeah.
Is that fucking Ruth?
What are you?
are we doing it? I thought we had a crossover.
Again, another cross.
Ruth and Hewell were at the diner.
This shows getting crazy.
And then Noah also brings
him a suit. He's like, oh, I thought you would want a suit.
I was thinking in my head, I'm like,
is this, does he, I guess
he wears Noah's suit? It's like the
suit's a construct, because you're telling me that
high school Noah is the same suit size
as Aaron Pierre.
No. Uh-uh. That's where my
suspension of disbelief goes out the window, my
for you. And Noah
kind of hammering home,
I shouldn't go to the funeral,
I can't go to the funeral.
And so some people were also
saying, oh, I don't
like that how nobody went to his funeral.
Like shouldn't he have some lantern
friends or some superhero friends?
They did have a line where they said they were trying to keep
it quiet and it wasn't even public knowledge.
Like it's not even like the world could have came
to show their respect or whatever.
They said we're keeping it quiet until Monday
or whatever. So that's why there's
Nobody at his funeral.
But who was at the funeral?
What was your name?
Carol Ferris, who I do not know.
Basically, what I've read is she is Hal Jordan's lowest lane.
Ah, okay.
So I think you were to believe that that was his main romantic partner through life, I believe.
And what was it like?
What didn't exactly say a friend or something like that?
Like, it's like, yeah.
had a line like that yeah i feel like hal had a few people like that in his life when he was alive right
yeah she fits that's like that that makes sense that makes perfect and that's something that
i bet our boy t bob was all you know after watching out he lose he was all think bro he made a green
construct in his pants um one thing i thought about the funeral too and again granted this is a
fucking comic show of course but we always
talk about the funeral scenes and comic books and how they are.
But there's also the scenes like this where it is a funeral, but there's like two people
there.
And it makes you feel sad that the hero has no one else there.
And I kind of saw that panel in my head as I was watching.
I thought that was pretty cool.
And God did.
He was like a man of his word.
He got the ring and he got the suit.
So seeing Hal in the suit was cool.
I know there's a classic.
I believe Hal's death in the comics.
There's like a classic panel of all the heroes in their costumes, paying their respect,
which is always really cool.
And Carol wants to know if John would read the eulogy written by Hal, which is funny.
You're like, oh, my God, he wrote his own fucking eulogy.
And then they first cut to it as he's reading it in front of two people.
You kind of see like hold for applause.
And I laughed at me like, oh, this is going to be fucking funny.
And he's talking about, oh, Mr. President, First Lady, he's addressing all of the people
that have come to show their respect.
And then at some point, halfway through this fucking monologue, it becomes like kind of real.
And you start feeling things.
And you start feeling for Hal Jordan and feeling the weight of his death.
And by the time it gets to the end where he says, I hope I mattered.
It was like, holy shit, that wasn't just played for laughs.
That wasn't just a joke.
It was a legitimately great scene and like great writing for the in universe eulogy.
I loved it.
Kind of hurt my feelings.
kind of made me sad, yeah.
I hope I mattered.
I was like, oh, no.
It mattered to me, Al.
Yeah.
It's like the wrestling fan, right?
It's still matter.
Yeah.
I did not like that.
And again, because you get in the,
or maybe Mr. President,
I'm just playing my odds here, you know?
Like, it's just Hal joking around to, like,
Hal getting serious.
And that's what this character,
that's why this character ruled.
And again, you're reading it in Kyle Chandler's voice
in those fucking big brown dough eyes looking at you.
so good and then they're they're talking about sticking around guy and john stewart and he's going to
stick around literally because he's like you're not going to fucking dig up that body as soon as i leave right
and then he leaves and the jump cut to him digging up the body was really funny as well he finally
hits it takes the ring off makes the halogram and this is where we saw it going so we're like
all right following along but then the the exclamation point on the end of the episode of him
looking down at the grave and looking back up at John Stewart and being like, God damn it.
Like he literally, the only way he could get that ring was over his dead body.
He had to pry it off his cold fingers.
And he did it.
And that sets up the penultimate episode next week, obviously the finale, the week after that.
I think we're on such a good pace on this show where, yeah, we had one flashback episode
that took us away from the main story for a little bit.
You know, by the end, we kind of get back to it.
But the rest of the show, it's impressive to me that only through six episodes now, it feels like we've had nine episodes.
Like it feels like more of a show than it already is content was because of how densely packed in everything was.
Because last week felt like a finale itself.
I would say when it's all said in Don, I feel like it'll be, it feel like a 12 episode show.
It'll feel like two seasons, I think.
I think it'll feel like 2016 and 2026 as two separate seasons.
Everyone else making comic shows
needs to like take notes on this.
Yeah.
And there's not been like an hour and 25 minute episode
and an hour and 20.
Like it's 53 and it's
it just goes to show how well stuff can be done.
And yeah, I hope these other execs.
Because I mean, you were talking about
on the text chain with Jose.
Like we're getting the Zodiac show for Marvel.
It's like when Marvel announces new shows,
I'm like, don't make this bad.
Don't fuck it up.
where Gorilla Grot, I'm like, all right, like, I'm going to give you guys a shot here.
You guys are undefeated, I think it shows, right?
So far, undefeated DCU or, you know, count peacemaker in that as well.
Yeah, for sure.
And including Creature Commandos, that's the name of the show that we like, right?
And again, listen, they had a loss with Supergirl.
They definitely had a loss.
I'm going to give them like a, you know, it wasn't even a decision.
It was like a knockout.
But people were losing their mind about it because that's what just people wanted to.
let's be honest, we know people, people who we work with that have decided that they're going to get that stance on stuff.
But there's been, like, basically all their wins and, like, massive wins at that.
The Penguin is some of the best shit I think we had on TV.
Yes, I think is right alongside it.
So, uh, and I can't believe Gorilla Grodd.
Like, this is so ridiculous.
But the memes of it are even good.
So I'm like, if we can be-
The memes are already good.
Yeah.
I'm really excited for the future of the DC.
and really excited to see what John Stewart,
what kind of role he has in Man of Tomorrow after this show.
I hope it's a big one.
I hope it's a really sizable role
because I feel like him alongside David Cornsweet
and Millie Alcock's Supergirl,
like that's going to be very interesting.
And you have most of the Justice League at that point
in terms of we think Adria Arjona is Wonder Woman.
So you've got Wonder Woman, Superman, Green Lantern, Hawk Girl,
maybe by the end of this show we might have a Martian Manhunter.
Like we're the Flash and Batman pretty much away from having the Justice League.
And we're rolling just from there, right?
And I'll be interested to see Hawk Girl if they can like, because again, she became a meme in the wrong way.
Yeah.
If she does get romantically linked to John Stewart, too, that could open a whole bunch of things up.
So I'm very, yeah, I'm very excited.
I can't say I'm, did you say you're more?
excited for the DCU right now.
I mean, I have to see it. It all depends on Doomsday,
DCU versus MCU.
It's going to, but like,
on a show to show movie to movie basis,
I don't know what.
So here's what I'll kind of throw out there.
We'll count the Matt Reeves Batman.
Because DC's DC.
Okay. I know it's different from DCU.
But let's say, would you rather see,
if you only see two movies,
the Batman part two and Man of Tomorrow,
or Doomsday and Secret Wars.
I think I got to go to The Avengers
just because we've heard Doomsday doesn't suck.
If you would ask me this a year ago,
I think I might have went the other way.
But, and again,
I think Superman, in a weird way,
has a lower ceiling,
as crazy as that sounds,
but I don't think that's, you know, too quite a way.
I don't know where I go on that, to be honest.
I'm going back and forth in my mind.
The Marvel side of me is saying,
And we've had such a buildup to this, especially, like, only since end game.
I'm not even counting the Infinity Saga as the buildup.
But like end game on, we've been building and building and building.
Have we though, Bob?
Have we?
In our minds, we, like, they haven't been building.
We've been building.
You know what I mean?
Yes, okay.
Fair enough.
Where, like, I could just take the Batman and Superman from last year.
And I could just, in my mind, be like, those are great singular movies the story is told.
They don't have cliffhangers as much as the MCU it has.
So I kind of lean Marvel as well because I'm like,
I need to see how this concludes,
whereas those ones don't have as much.
But man, if I'm a betting man,
if we're just talking like a rotten tomato score,
what people think of the movies,
I think it's more likely that Batman and the next Superman movie
do better than the next two Avengers movies.
Especially the talk of Man of Tomorrow from everyone is like,
it's a lot more mature.
it's a lot more grounded.
Like, I think they're kind of taking all of the things that did get criticized in Superman
and just not changing them completely, but dialing it in and really like hammering home what people want.
I think they're both going to be awesome.
Yeah.
And, you know, I was going to say the Marvel shows and movies for the next, say, two to three years versus the DC.
And I feel like DC has a higher floor just because I do pretty much like everything except for Super.
girl. However, it's like the zodiac stuff where I'm really not sure how much I'm really into it.
And then there's, I don't know what's been greenlight, but then I'm like, oh, yeah, you idiot, X-Men's
coming. And that is going to really be a whole new level. So I, and I'm also a Marvel guy first.
I always have been. So maybe because of that. But I mean, again, this is someone that I might have
when it's all said it on Lanterns and Penguin above Loki. And I love Loki. So, yeah.
I'm also thinking when we talk about Man of Tomorrow.
We know it's a Superman Lex Luthor team-up movie.
In some way, they're going to have to team up, probably because Brainiac is the main villain,
and he's going to be the worst villain imaginable, and he's an alien.
Could Brainiac possibly be teaming up with a Manhunter?
And if Noah survives this show, could Noah be running for president against Lex Luthor?
Maybe not by Man of Tomorrow, because they're not skipping ahead that long, and he's got to be 35.
But maybe in the third movie, it's like Lex Luthor's running for president against an alien.
The thing he hates the most.
Guys, I tried to fucking tell you.
I try to tell you episode one, I think.
Yeah, you did.
You did.
This is my fucking Sparky's revenge if I nailed this take.
Yeah, it is.
This is for Sparky.
Hashtag, RIP Sparky this week.
You're a literal dog.
Yeah.
All right.
We will talk to you guys next week.
Hopefully with T-Bob.
If T-Bob is not available or if Jose is available, we'll see who's around.
And we'll have a surprise guest for you next week.
How about that?
We'll try to round it out with the core the next two weeks if it works.
If not, we'll have to figure it out.
Yeah.
All right.
We'll talk to you then.
Thanks for listening.
