Hey, My Mom's Basement listeners, you can find our episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube,
and Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music.
You can get in on the ground floor level with them here on this podcast,
and then follow their whole careers, hopefully up to title contention, and then, you know,
they win the title, Hall of Fame, all that and more. That would be amazing.
It's Randy Costa, who picked up an amazing win this weekend,
and Jamal Hill,
who hasn't been in the Octagon recently. And we'll get to that in the interview. We'll get to why he
hasn't been in the Octagon recently. Before we get to that, let me tell you about our amazing
presenting sponsor, 3Chi. I tell you guys about 3Chi each and every week, but it's because I use
3Chi each and every week. It's because I stand by it each and every week, and it's because they support the pod each and every week.
They keep the lights on.
They are the ones making sure that you are getting my mom's basement
week to week, month to month, year to year.
Hopefully, you'll get my mom's basement until I'm in a nursing home.
All right, so 3Chi is the leader in hemp-derived cannabinoid products.
All of these products are formulated by a biochemist,
and what the products are, at least what the products that I love are, are Delta-8 THC vapes, gummies,
tinctures, and oils that can be used to make homemade edibles. So this is a federally legal
version of THC. It's the perfect substitute for anyone using Delta-9 THC, which is the THC you
would find in weed, who would want the same general feelings, but without the negative side effects. It isn't just the best in the Delta eight industry either.
They invented the industry. This is there at the forefront. All right. So this is a hundred percent
hemp derived a hundred percent federally legal and only available at three chi.com. That's the
number three chi.com. Now this stuff was sold out. It'll sell out again. Go get it now before they run out.
It's amazing stuff.
I promise you.
Hit a little 3G, throw in a little Oasis, throw in a little Verve.
Beautiful stuff.
Use the promo code BASEMENT at checkout, and you will receive 5% off your order.
And when you use that promo code, you also let 3G know, hey, the pod sent us, so keep supporting the pod because we'll keep
supporting them. They'll keep supporting us, and that's just how the world goes around. It's a
beautiful world. You must be 21 or older to purchase. Once again, that is promo code BASEMENT
at checkout. You'll receive 5% off your order at 3C.com. Now, without further ado, let's get into
the first of our two interviews with one of this weekend's biggest winners, Randy the Zohan
Costa. All right, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to My Mom's Basement. It is Robbie Fox,
and I'm here with a very special guest right now. He's coming off an amazing knockout this weekend.
It's Randy Costa. It's the Zohan. What's going on, man? Robbie Fox, what the fuck is up? I've
been dying to get on here. Thank you for having me on.
Of course, dude.
It's an honor after that knockout this weekend.
That was absolutely unbelievable.
Walk me through it.
I mean, I saw in your post-fight interview, you were saying, you know,
that was an opening you saw.
You were looking for the head kick.
It's not something maybe you work on all the time, but you just saw it with that opponent, Journey Newsome.
Walk me through it.
Yeah, man.
I'm a pretty, pretty like analytical striker when when
i'm fighting i'm you can see the way that i'm moving i'm just constantly taking a read on my
opponent and i kept throwing out my jab kept throwing out my jab and i or fainting my jab
and i noticed i was getting a pretty hard bite um and he was parrying pretty hard on his rear side um so when he walked when
he walked uh away i cut him off and then i made like a subtle uh switch in my stance that he
didn't notice um all while still moving my head i then threw out my my left hand which he thought
was a jab um because he missed my switch my stance switch um He bit hard like he had already been doing, which I had gathered in my head,
put that what he thought was a jab out, and then wrapped my shin around the other side
and then landed flush.
It was a beautiful thing.
Yeah, it was.
People were posting the Kevin Lee, Gregor Gillespie knockout.
It looks very similar, like the way he fell and everything.
It was so spot on to that. It was a crazy knockout to watch so that was all from the fight it wasn't
something you saw leading into the fight necessarily that was like you downloaded that
intel pretty quickly being the fight wasn't that long yeah man i i can i noticed when uh when when
journey i didn't think i was gonna land that head kick um because he's gotten caught with head kicks
a couple times um but he's fucking he's so tough and it's tough to put him away yeah i didn't think I was going to land that head kick because he'd gotten caught with head kicks a couple times. But he's fucking – he's so tough, and it's tough to put him away.
I didn't think that I would knock him out in the first round, let alone the first minute.
And I definitely didn't think it was going to be by a head kick.
That wasn't a shot that I was set on landing.
I didn't have really any shot that I was set on landing.
I thought it was probably going to be a right hand if I put him down. But yeah, I was just gathering what I was seeing,
what I was seeing. And I knew that as soon as I made that initial read, I knew that I was set
on making it happen. You can see that when I first come out, I kept showing that jab, showing that
jab, seeing I was gathering that reaction. And then the rest of all of my movements were based around showing that jab
and creating that opening.
So I kept rolling my shoulder over,
rolling my shoulder and get my head off that center line because I kept trying
to engrave in his head that it's okay to slip. It's okay to slip.
It's okay to slip and give him this false sense of security because I wasn't
going to follow anything up. And then he bit too hard on one of the times. came right over and then clapped right behind it it was it was fucking awesome I love
the inside baseball uh breakdown of it as well I love your your Boston accents coming out a little
bit even as well you're like oh yeah slipping to the side yeah yeah yeah um so you get that
knockout it was the first fight you had in the UFC in a long time were you worried about ring
rust going into the fight or were you thinking
like, I'm going to start slower?
Actually the exact opposite. Um, I don't have many,
I've only had like six going into that fight. I was six pro fights. Um,
all, you know, if you look, if you look at my record,
they generally don't get out of the first minute and a half.
I only had one fight get out. You know what I mean? So I don't have,
I don't have a lot of experience and I definitely don't have a lot of
experience fighting in front of like these mega crowds
that's that's like this that's this weird thing to me that i that i just don't have that experience
yet um so when i was told that there weren't going to be any fans i knew that it was going
to play into my advantage because i'm so used to fighting or sparring right that that just felt
so comfortable i looked a lot more comfortable in that fight than i have
my previous fights i was able to just kind of analyze what everything that's kind of going on
because there was no outside influence everything was directly in front of your coaches right you
hear your corner the whole time yeah i wasn't i wasn't really listening to necessarily listening
to my corners but i was able to kind of gather and really just focus on exactly what's going on
there weren't like any screaming with the fans or anything like that i was able to go in there and just be completely like analytical with all my
movements and everything kind of be methodical.
I'm going out my last few fights, especially last October.
It was in the garden.
That's fucking insane, especially, you know,
I'm from Boston and I don't have much experience fighting.
So to fight in Boston in the middle of the card and have everyone scream my
name, that was just fucking bananas, you know, and it worked out my favor,
but fighting in front of nobody at all. It just, I felt so comfortable.
I was so calm in there, man. I could see everything. It was,
it was such a weird thing. It was fucking so cool.
So do you think you want to do that again?
Like if you want to fight again this year,
you didn't take any damage in that fight, obviously. So.
Yeah, I want, I want at least one more. I would like to have two more,
but I a thousand percent
i'm gonna fight um again hopefully like mid-november before thanksgiving or something
um but i'm ready dude i'm gonna keep my weight low i'm gonna stay ready stay in the gym
um obviously take enjoy myself this week have a little bit of food and of course you deserve it
yeah yeah kickbacks kickback relax kind of enjoy and appreciate all my hard work and i'm gonna
celebrate my hard work.
I'm happy, but I'm definitely not satisfied. There's still a lot of things that I want to do.
And this is just a nice, a nice like checkpoint I achieved, you know, another small goal in this crazy fucking sport. Well, I want to take it back to the beginning because you just referenced,
you don't have many pro fights on your record compared to, you know, most of the other people
in the UFC. And I find that really fascinating.
So let's take it back all the way to the beginning and get to the UFC.
But what got you into mixed martial arts in the first place?
A complete accident, dude. It was like,
like every other kid was put in traditional martial arts.
And then I fucking hated it because dude,
I have the attention span of a fly. I can't sit there in the focus.
So when you have to do like traditional martial arts, all about focus i can't fucking do that like the breaking the board stuff you're
talking about like i can't fucking just stand there and like just like fall if i'm fucking
like healing tiles and shit right right so and then uh you know going through middle school i
started picking up boxing i started picking up boxing because i was looking for uh like a contact
sports doing the off season of football and then I started wrestling through
high school kickbox through high school and then I found Lowe's MMA when I was when I was a junior
so I started training at Lowe's MMA for about 10 years but I never had any goals of being a fighter
never had any I'd never even in a street fight bro I've never hit anybody ever oh interesting
I've never even pushed never pushed anyone I've avoided I've never even been in a street fight, bro. I've never hit anybody, ever. Oh, interesting. I've never even been pushed, never pushed anyone.
I've never even been in an argument, like, in, like, a confrontational manner.
You know, I don't like any of that.
It's all stupid to me.
Yeah, bro, it was like, I took my first amateur fight when I was 19 on two weeks notice,
just, like, to give it a try.
I ended up being pretty good at it.
Banged out three fights, three amateur fights in, like, three months,
just knocking everyone out.
And then I took like this real long break.
During that long break, my best friend, my best friend who passed away,
he was always telling me, hey, you know, take another fight.
You're going to be really good.
Take another fight.
You're going to be really good.
He wanted to be in the UFC.
He was like working really hard to get there.
And I told him, I'm like, yeah, I'm going to fight. But he knew that was just a crock of shit. He's like,
dude, fuck you. You're not going to fight. I'm like, watch me, dude.
I'm going to fight. And I definitely didn't have any plans of fighting.
So when he passed, when he passed, I owed it to obviously our friendship.
I owed it to be a man of my word.
And I owed it to him to at least take one more fight and just give it a try
and see what happens. All the, all the chips kind of fell in the whole thing was an accident went to school
I was looking for every other excuse but to fight and then I just kind of had to face the music and
said you know I owe this to Devin I'm gonna do one I'm not gonna do anymore so if you notice it
you know from the first my first pro fight back I brought his picture with me through the lanes
and all that stuff. Took one fight.
It was a 41-second knockout.
That was in June.
And then August, 11-second head kick knockout.
And then November, you know, a minute body shot knockout.
And then January.
Like, how can you not keep going, right?
You know, banging out all these.
And then, you know, I literally slipped, fell, and made it to the UFC.
It was never in the cards.
I never wanted to be, you know, obviously, you have, like, this pipe dream. It would be so cool to fight in the UFC it was never in the cards I never wanted to be you know obviously you have like this pipe dream I'd be so cool to fight in the UFC but like I never really like intentionally
pursued it it was really just kind of an accident until I started you know I guess I think that
after I won my third pro fight I was like all right maybe I can actually fucking do this like
I seem to be okay at this you know um but it was never it wasn't something I had set out to do
and honestly I gave if my if Devin Carrier didn't pass away then i wouldn't be in this spot um so it's definitely
cool that i can kind of fight for something bigger than myself i'm not fighting because
i necessarily want to be here i'm fighting because i want to bring him to where he wanted to be you
know so it's cool that i can achieve you know now a dream that i have and then bring him along to
get you know achieve the dream that that he wanted in a different way.
Obviously, he'll never be able to fight in the UFC, but it's cool that he's now recognized by the UFC.
He got his name, you know, announced in TD Garden and he's getting his name plugged on the UFC website.
And it's kind of like his memory, you know, now I'm just happy I can, you know, have this platform to get his name out to where he deserved and where he wanted it to be.
It means a lot to me.
I'm sure it means a lot to his family.
And it's just cool that I'm able to fight for something bigger than myself.
Dude, it's an amazing story.
It's absolutely awesome.
Shout out to DC.
And just the entire legacy of you getting into the UFC, not being a kid growing up, looking up to –
I was thinking maybe you were watching Joe Lozon fights growing up and being like and being like oh i gotta train with that guy one day no you kind of
just stumbled into it it was it was dude it was a fucking complete accident i didn't know shit about
you know i just like started following fighting like really hard once i i guess took my first
fight but before like people would talk about like all these names and you know pride this that yeah
i don't know i still don't know shit about pride i'm not gonna act like i was yeah i'm not gonna
act like i was this big fan and you know i was like watching all the pioneers because that's
not the case at all i was just some stupid fucking high school kid who tried to get tried to get into
a fight and ended up being okay at it you know it's like this whole thing is a fucking freak
accident i slipped fell made it to the ufc and i'm fucking loving it dude life
is awesome i love it too all right so now that you are an mma fan who are your favorite fighters
to watch like as a fighter to be like oh shit they're fucking they know what they're doing in
there when i started like getting into training and stuff there were a couple guys that i emulated
and you get it it's definitely not gonna hit you by surprise um i loved watching marco crokop
yep obviously um i love i love watching and i get
a lot of i get a lot of comparisons to wonder boy um yep i like watching wonder boy a lot i like
watching like all like the crafty kind of kickboxing type guys i like to pick pick parts
from all their those guys games um those guys from past from the present i like obviously watching
izzy fight i think he's extremely um intelligent and creative and i like to emulate that style james kraus
those kind of guys but i really really looked up to like wonder boy and merco and uh just because
like how exciting they were obviously i was super super fan of faber and dominic cruz and all those
guys going up but obviously my style is much different than theirs but i but for emulating i really loved
watching wonder boy and miracle croak off and those exciting type strikers um there's just
something cool and i know that like you know when i watched those guys i knew that like i was really
engulfed and really enjoyed watching it because they were like super scientific and analytical
with their stuff but it was also super crowd pleasing um i don't like to watch the guys that are just that are squeaking out decisions it's so fucking stupid and boring
to me people don't want to see people cuddle in the fucking cage people want to see a fucking
fistfight right they want to see people throwing bombs and fucking knocking motherfuckers out
right i knew that i was either going to get knocked out or i was going to knock him out like
it's cool like that's what people want to see um i don't know i just i just want to be one of those
guys that are like that people like oh fuck like randy's fighting it's like it's much watched tv
like we have we have to watch because either he's gonna fucking die or
someone else's gonna die like it's just it's gonna be fucking sick
yeah you're off to a good start and i think even looking up to crow cop and
seeing all those head kicks you could put your head kick on saturday
in a highlight reel with those and people would not bat an eye so it's like
the guy you looked up to now you're literally emulating in the
UFC. It's pretty fucking cool.
And it's, it's really good. And especially, you know,
that left side high kick and all Cowboys, another one of those guys.
And he has, you know, a switch, a switch head kick like that.
It's just cool that like the,
the things that I really looked up to and the things that I really tried
emulating, you know, I I'm now on, I I'm now like on that, on that length of, you know, my highlight is on their same highlight reel.
Like that was, that was, that was fucking cool.
Like that was, that was a cool shot, especially, you know, I haven't fought the whole story.
You know, I haven't fought 11 months and wasn't supposed to be there to begin with.
And then, you know, coming in, it's a minute.
I was counted out.
I was the underdog, you know, it's just, it's just cool.
Yeah, absolutely.
All right.
Before we get you out of here,
I got some questions outside of the cage for you.
Just some random ones.
I want to know what Randy Costa has been up to in quarantine
when he's not fighting.
Are you watching movies?
Are you listening to music?
Are you watching TV?
What are you into?
During quarantine, dude?
Oh, my God.
You're like this, bro.
So I was supposed to fight in March.
Got canceled because of COVID. I had put in an eight-week fight camp to have the fight canceled 10 days prior
so i went from a from a complete diet i'm a bigger 135 or i cut from like 168 to 135
right so i went yeah so i was 168 at the start of the uh the january start of camp at the start
of camp signed the contract at 168 i dieted down until it was 147, 10 days before the fight.
Just left the one in March.
So I went from that to a complete lockdown where I got so fat it wasn't even fucking funny.
Dude, you ready for this, dude?
I got up to 183 pounds.
I'm 135.
I'm a band and weight MMA fighter.
I'm a band and weight.
I got to 183 pounds.
I almost threw up.
I could have cried, bro. I'm a band weight I got to 180 pounds I almost threw up I could
have cried bro I could cry it was fucking disgusting disgusting so to answer your question
I did a lot of eating and a fuck ton of drinking right I was drinking my sorrows it was like I can't
can't fight I'm not gonna get paid what the fuck I'm just slugging booze bro it was really it was
wicked fun dude but it was bad um but yeah I don don't watch, like, I can't get into TV.
I like watching.
The attention span thing?
What's that?
Is it the attention span thing?
Yeah, bro, I fucking, I can't focus well.
I'm like fucking counting the ceiling tiles.
Yeah, I'm just fucking, you know, now I'm in South Florida,
so I, you know, the rest of the, since I've been in camp
and since I guess I came to Florida, I've just been –
really just going to the beach.
It's been fucking awesome.
Yeah, that is nice.
You at least get the weather.
What's on the playlist?
What are you listening to music-wise?
Dude, I'm a reggae guy and a country guy.
A reggae guy.
Wow, Bob Marley.
I'm not really crazy about – I mean, obviously you like Bob Marley,
but I love Kali Buds But I love I love I love
Fresh Air Movement
Like all these
Like
Just cool
Like beach music
And then obviously
Country music
I walk out to country music
It's
Just a big part
Life's a big part of you bro
I'm just fucking
I'm just enjoying it dude
I'm just enjoying it
I don't like to listen to
Like any like
You know
Hard rock or anything like that
Or
You know I'm just That's what I'm into like to listen to like any like, you know, hard rock or anything like that. Or, you know, I'm just.
That's what I'm into.
Life is good, bro.
Give me fucking screaming, metal, hardcore, brother.
One more question before I got you out of here that I forgot to ask you before.
How did you get the nickname, the Zohan?
Who gave you that?
Dude, it's pretty funny.
The Cage Titans commentators, Andy Kurersankowski and richie santiago um
they they told me they had a funny nickname for me and then just announced it in my in my pro
debut and i was like you can't fucking do that you have to tell me but so like you know you know
the movie you don't mess with the zone of course yeah. When I blogged your knockout, I posted the smell it, now take it gif, yeah.
Yeah.
So that's a ridiculous movie character, right?
I'm a pretty fucking ridiculous person.
He cares about his hair, right?
I'm a fucking diva with my hair.
And he throws kicks from crazy angles, like the foot uppercuts,
and I throw kicks from crazy angles.
Everything kind of lines up um for like a ridiculous
fucking perfect storm of of an idiot of a person who is me um so it's i'm it's cool that like i
have this this now ridiculous nickname that is that's kind of taken off like people are gonna
work though yeah yeah people people have like before like before this fight it was just like
oh you know his he has a nickname. It's the Zohan.
Now it's like, all right, that's the Zohan fight.
You know, it's just pretty cool.
And, you know, I went on and I Googled my name earlier,
and I just noticed I have a Wikipedia account.
And the caption to my Wikipedia image is Randy Costa throwing a foot uppercut.
It's just, like, it's just fucking completely taken off.
It's fantastic. That's amazing.
Yeah, and it rolls off the tongue, too, like Randy the Zohan costa it's perfect it reminds me of funny enough you brought him up
before it reminds me of wonder boy how he comes out to the tenacious d song and it's kind of
ridiculous but it works it's like oh that's wonderful it's just like it's just cool like
i'm now having like these little like things that kind of that are branded with me like i walk up
the florida george line i'm gonna be fuck'm going to have like a decent haircut. I'm going to be tan.
It's just cool that like I'm having like these things that are like attached to
my image. It's funny.
I'm trying to just grow my stock and create the biggest name that I can in the
UFC. And,
and I think that everything how it went this past weekend is only going to
force, force things in that direction.
Yeah.
Speaking of growing that stock, tell the people where they could find you, where they could
follow you, all that stuff.
Randy underscore Costa on Instagram and Randy Costa 135 on Twitter.
Follow.
Give him some love.
I appreciate it.
We appreciate you coming on the show.
This has been a lot of fun.
We'll have to get you back on either before or after your next win.
100%, man. Thank you very much, Robbie. I appreciate it, bro.
All right. Thank you, man. All right. Appreciate Randy for joining the show. That was a fun
interview. We'll definitely have to get him back on. And now coming up next, another one of the
UFC's most exciting prospects, Jamal Hill. All right, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the show. I am back here with another amazing prospect in the UFC, I would say.
He is one of the baddest men, not only in the cage, but also on the video games as well.
He's done some stuff with Barstool with Game Time before.
He's been in the tournament.
Jamal Hill, what's going on, man?
What's going on, man?
How you doing, man?
Good.
How are you?
I'm good, bro.
I'm good.
Just chilling.
All right, so we got to address the elephant in the room right away.
I'm talking to you on suspension right now. You're, you're jailed up.
They're not letting you fight. They're not letting you in the cage.
It's a, it's a bullshit weed suspension. It's a marijuana suspension.
I don't really understand the marijuana suspensions in the UFC.
I assume a lot of my listeners don't either.
So why don't you explain it for everybody?
It's illegal to use in competition.
It's legal to use out of competition.
You used it out of competition.
You got popped for it in competition.
What's going on here?
So, yeah, that's pretty much, you pretty much got the gist of it.
So you're allowed to, the way the rules are laid out to to me you're allowed to smoke while you're not in competition all right so i'm usually that was from what i was told i was like so pretty much if you start
smoking about two weeks out from your fight you're usually good you know i mean so this is that was
pretty much the consensus that i was going off of. I stopped smoking four weeks out from my fight.
You know, the minute I got a fight, just because that's just how my mind works.
My mind is different, you know.
It was a short notice fight, right?
You accepted it on four weeks, so immediately you just went into camp mode?
I accepted it on three weeks notice.
Because remember, the fight was supposed to be on the 24th.
And they pushed it.
And they pushed it back a week.
Yeah.
So I accepted it on three weeks notice.
So you just go into camp mode when you accept that fight.
Yeah, I went right into camp.
No, I had already had a feeling that I was going to, I mean,
whenever they started the fights up and everything,
I had a feeling that I was going to end up getting called.
So, you know what I mean, with it being limited fighters,
stateside and then limited fighters that were even willing to fight.
You know what I'm saying?
Yep.
So I was like, all all right i'm with it uh i took the fight jump right into camp mode
and uh yeah man i had no i had no reason to believe that i was gonna get popped bro
none at all yeah was that a total shock when it comes back and it's like
most confidence all right look at the utmost confidence
i was like there's no fucking way you know i mean so like instantly i started going through my head
and then theories and shit you know i mean i got like a uh like a cbd uh massage the day of so i'm
like shit can you defend that you know i mean so they looked into that people
are like talking about like the ufc the ufc have my back on this issue like literally a hundred
percent you know what i'm saying they they put money into into trying to figure out what happened
you know for running running back old tests everything testing things that i came in contact
with and stuff like that you know i mean I mean? Like, because they were like, all right, bro, we believe you.
Like, you know what I'm saying?
People may not understand it's separate.
You're not suspended from the UFC.
You're suspended from the Athletic Commission, which the UFC has to honor,
but it's not their suspension.
Right, right.
And all Athletic Commissions in the U.S. are pretty much connected.
They honor each other, you know what I mean?
Yeah.
Whatever each other goes with for whatever.
And then, like, there's a whole thing, like,
if you leave the country and you fight outside the country,
usually they just suspend you indefinitely.
You can't fight in the United States at all.
You know what I'm saying?
But, you know, it is what it is.
It's a six-month suspension.
Is it retroactive from the fight as well?
Yeah, it's from the day of the fight.
So when will you be able to get back in there?
I'm clear December 1st.
All right, so are you looking to get back in there as soon as you possibly can?
Asap.
I figured.
I mean, from all your interviews, from your tweets, you can tell you.
Well, I seen Tim Elliott because you know me and Tim Elliott got suspended on the same day.
I seen him on Fight Island after that.
So I'm like, shit, can I fight over there?
I mean, that's what I'm trying to do right now.
I'm trying to get over there.
Yeah, I don't have an answer for you, but I'd certainly love to see it.
Hell yeah, all of that.
I'm trying to get in.
I'm missing money.
Yeah, and you came in with like such a bang, right? You were
on the Contender Series with Billy Q,
friend of the program. Awesome win on that.
And then you get your first UFC
win this January. Great decision win.
Then you get that win in May,
first round finish. And then it's just like, alright,
we're putting a halt.
Sit in your house for six months
and play video games, you know?
You have to tell it all for me, man.
You have to tell it all for me. I't got to sell it out for me, man. You ain't got to sell it out for me.
I already know, bro.
I already know, man.
Shit.
But, yeah, that's got to hurt.
So I want to bring it back to the beginning with you.
I do this with all of the fighters that I have on the show,
the first time I have them on the show.
What got you into fighting?
What got you into mixed martial arts?
I've been asked a few times.
Pretty much the same answer, bro.
I've always been into martial arts.
You know, I always was interested in fighting and things like that.
And then I used to always get into fights, bro.
You know what I'm saying?
That's like a lot.
Like a lot.
Like we talking big ass from one-on-one altercations to one-on-two,
one-on-four, one-on-eight, one-on-twelve.
Oh, my goodness.
Like, I done been in all of that shit to where it's fucking four of us against 12 dudes, 30, you know what I mean?
Like, big-ass groups, you know what I'm saying?
Like, all of that shit.
I done been in all these situations, you know?
And then I'm like, man, I'm steady fighting this shit now.
And I'm getting the sore knuckles and shit, I might as well get paid for it, then my, my godbrother actually
started fighting, and I watched his fight, I was like, oh, shit, okay, I see, this is
my brother, actually, he ended up being my second amateur fighter, you know what I mean,
but, yeah, he kind of got me into it, and I seen it.
Wait, you fought against him in your second amateur fight you just said?
Yeah, I fought my guy brother in my second amateur fight.
Damn, that's tough.
Got you into fighting, and then you got him out of fighting.
You said what?
I said he got you into fighting, and then you sent him out.
No, I didn't send him out.
I didn't send him out.
I don't know what he had going on with whatever, you know.
I know his mom was sick.
She was in the hospital a lot.
Stuff like that.
I don't know, just life.
Yeah.
He was good.
He was good, though.
That's crazy.
So getting into the UFC and getting into mixed martial arts,
just coming from, like you said, the upbringing where you were getting
into these crazy brawls all the time,
is fighting a one-on-one, fighting the cage almost like...
That ain't shit, bro.
Yeah, it's strange.
You hear, like, the Diaz brothers say that a lot.
Like, yeah, that's what I'm saying, but, like, that's why I be chilling.
Like, you see it when they're fighting.
They're like, oh, how are you so calm?
Because he don't have a gun.
His boy ain't waiting.
I ain't got to watch his...
I ain't got to watch and make sure his coach ain't about to jump in.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, none of that shit.
Wow, so do you –
We can go to the ground and I ain't got to worry about such and such
trying to kick me and shit.
Wow.
So when you fight, you have no nerves whatsoever,
whether you're in front of a crowd, whether you're nothing?
Do you remember the last time you were nervous just as a human being?
What do you get nervous about?
I don't know.
Call of Duty?
Getting Warzone wins when you're in, like, the top ten?
You start getting anxious?
Final circle.
Final countdown.
I don't know.
It's just things that I'm not certain about. I don't know. It's just things that I'm not certain about.
I don't know.
It's crazy.
You're just bred differently than me because I get nervous about everything.
I'm shaking about everything.
It always fascinates me about that.
I'm more of a cerebral person.
I try to think through things.
I know being frightened and things like that and being nervous,
it's
never helped me and if anything it made the situation worse yeah I mean so in my mind I know
I got to exclude that so over time I've worked on excluding that well speaking of being cerebral
like not only in the cage outside of the cage you've made a pretty big mark just since your
debut on Twitter via like fan interaction I see like you tweeting all the time. You're a big part of MMA Twitter at this point.
The game time stuff, like I said, you're streaming on Twitch.
Was that all in your mind, stuff that you wanted to do?
Like, hey, when I get to the UFC,
I'd like to start doing Twitch streaming and interviews and stuff like that.
Or was that just something that wound up happening just for the moment?
No, I mean, bro, I've been playing video games my whole life.
Bro, I like playing games and shit. shit and honestly the twitch stream the shit honestly started because i was
like i mean i can record the shit that i'm doing so that's really what it is i record i record
those highlights from pretty much my own benefit i like watching myself i like watching this shit
you know i'm saying what's better like a sweet knockout highlight or like an amazing kill in Warzone highlight?
Obviously a knockout because I get paid for that.
Bro, I don't know.
You seem like you're such a big gamer.
Max Holloway would probably say it was a Warzone kill.
Nah, bro.
I get a lot of Warzone kills.
I get Warzone kills all day.
Bro, I've seen crazy highlights.
You throw in C4s at helicopters.
They might be better than a
knockout. I don't know.
The grenade at the helicopter.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. That was
wild. Megan Anderson
made a point to tell me that it was
in pregame lobby, so it don't count.
It still totally
counts, but... Bro, all
my kills are in pregame lobby, so I'm with you.
I think they definitely count. I was carried last night.
I did war zone with some stoolies and the final kill count was like 17,
13, 14. And I had one, I was at the bottom just with one.
I felt like I was on like LeBron's team. You know,
I'm like that guy in the bench still gets a ring.
So when you get back in the cage this December,
I assume you want to get back in the cage this December,
I assume you want to get back in there and be as active as possible.
That's at least what I've heard you say.
And you keep saying anybody can get it.
Do you have any names in mind going forward?
I mean, at first I didn't, but, you know, I already put out there a couple offers to a couple people that spoke out of turn, you know.
And once they answered the call, I ain't heard nothing. people that spoke out a turn.
I ain't heard nothing.
I ain't said nothing else, but I'm still not hearing nothing.
I saw some tweets with Ryan Spann this past
weekend. I saw you reposting those.
What do you know? He was just on that show.
Yeah, alright.
Well, listen, we're all excited to see you back in the cage we're excited to see
you back in war zone as well we're going to be running way more mma war zone tournaments and
we're going to make sure we get you included in all those because you're obviously one of the
highlights of them my redemption but uh i played you know i brought my nephew in last time to have
fun he he worked his way up to trying to be a pro gamer on that level and stuff.
But I got the real team for his ass if we on his time.
You know what I'm saying?
I got my real killers.
Bro, that was one of my favorite parts of the tournament was you bringing your nephew in
because we were doing the commentary and we were obviously jumping from stream to stream
and, like, focused on other things.
So we didn't realize it until, like, towards the end of the stream.
And we tuned in and we're like, is that a young kid or is that like a girl's voice what is that and then dave who
you were playing with the barstool guy he joins and he's like oh yeah his nephew was there we
were like how old is he's like 10 or 12 or something we're like this is amazing he's
putting on more kills than our guy dave
